Terr - Tale of Devotion

Repress!

Brazilian-born, Berlin-based DJ and producer Terr makes her Phantasy debut
with the sensational single, ‘Tale of Devotion’.

Arguably one of the catchiest moments in Phantasy’s musical history, Terr
delivers a wide-eyed vision of sincere synth pop pleasure, backed by a sublime
Prins Thomas Diskomiks.

Undoubtedly indebted to the visionary modulations of Giorgio Moroder, Phil
Oakey and Wendy Carlos, ‘Tale of Devotion’ flawlessly captures the romance,
ecstasy and opportunity throbbing at the heart of dancefloors for the past fifty
years. No mere nostalgia trip, Terr delivers a soaring vocal performance that
proves to be the warm, ambiguous heart of the track, driven by bubbling, cosmic
electronics and flashes of orchestral melodrama.

Prins Thomas establishes a contrasting groove for the latest in his beloved
legacy of ‘Discomiks’ reworks. Somewhat dialling in the conscious hi-NRG of the
original production, the Norwegian maestro’s undulating, percussive edit places
Terr’s wistful vocal journey centre stage, while branches of halcyon disco
blossom around her.

Various - Local Talk 5 1/2 Years Later Part 2

It really feels like we (aka Mad Mats & Tooli) have been around way longer than 5 1/2 years with Local Talk, but it's really true what they say, time flies when you're having fun! From what started as a somewhat simple and almost primitive urge to create a small house imprint has now grown into a much bigger affair. We really tried hard to keep the label from getting stuck in any genre (remember 90s house) and to always keep the Local Talk relevant, curious, diverse and with a healthy dose of underground mentality. From our very first release with Bassfort's excellent 'Moon Shadow' in the Summer of 2011, we had a crystal clear vision of what Local Talk should represent...House music in any way, shape or form! Over the years we released soulful, Disco, jack, afro, vocal, deep, Jazz, tech, latin, old school, acid, UK, Berlin, New Jersey, Detroit and of course Chicago inspired house music. If it made us bump...we put it out! This brings us up to today and about +80 releases later. We thought about how we best could sum up these first 5 1/2 years and immediately the image of Blaze's classic album '25 Years Later' popped up.
Besides the fact that it's an amazing album cover it also a good representation when different musical genres fuse together. It's not strictly a house album but just as well a r&b, reggae and soul album. This fusion and variation of house sounds is something that we've tried to capture on our '5 1/2 Years Later' compilation, split into two parts. On part 2 you'll find a high energy disco rub from Parisian S3A, a truly deep and soulful vocal jam from Boddhi Satva & Sly Johnson, a deep UK garage production from SMBD (aka Simbad), a dark and electronic affair from Toto Chiavetta (Yoruba) and finally a musical acid number with that magical Bristol touch from newcomer Marcel Lune. All in all we think we got most angles covered and hopefully this album will make you spread that chalk on the dance floor and get down...Local Talk style!

Noema - Antipodes

Noema

Antipodes

12inchMAGIC03
The Magic Movement
02.06.2023

Repress.

The third release on The Magic Movement features the label's A&R Noema from Berlin. "Antipodes" starts off with a funky bass-line, trippy bells and syncopated claps which set an psychedelic Afro vibe from the very beginning. Mystical noises increase this mood, till a hypnotising Moog hook calls for action. And at the latest when the sub bass finally drops in, the scenery transforms into an ecstatic ritual dance.

On the flipside you'll find Aunti Flo's remix with a a more dubby feel of the title track. A spheric choir pad unfolds over strong Afro percussions, while a rattle snake like shaker excitedly rises and falls.
"Late at Night" feels like a nocturnal walk through streets in twilight.

The Groove, which sounds like odd clockwork, gets occasionally enhanced by more interesting percussion sounds. The melodies, played by a Marimba-like instrument and filtered synth, is accompanied by a warm pad and a disco bassline, whilst a female voice moans in the back.

Various - Network Remixes - Volume One 2x12"

The Art and Soul of Network is well and truly captured on this beautiful collection.

Fittingly for a remix selection, Network’s iconic artwork is reconstructed by Trevor Jackson, the designer of those original graphics. He has lovingly reworked the maverick indie house label’s distinctive branding for this 2 x 12 double album selection which rewinds to some of Network’s finest moments.

Network was based in Birmingham but as this release demonstrates had an international outlook and an alchemist touch for joining together disparate talents which lent itself well to the world of remixology.

Dave Lee’s remix, when he was working under his Joey Negro pseudonym, of The Reese Project’s awesome Direct Me is arguably his finest ever work. The original track fused Detroit electronica with the Motor City’s ever present Soul Music stirrings. Dave simply made the superlative perfect . The result was not only an iconic Network release but one of House Music’s greatest recordings.

There was possibly no better example of Network’s deft touch when it came to selecting unlikely combinations of people to work together than Day By Day. . Andrew Pearce, a raw but incredibly gifted 18 years gospel singer, was plucked of the streets of Wolverhampton and promptly despatched to Detroit where producer Kevin Saunderson and songwriter Ann Saunderson gave him the complete Reese Project template on the mesmerising Day By Day. Then Chez Damier & Ron Trent were drafted in to create their Urban Sound Gallery masterpiece of a remix. It truly is a gem.

Ann Saunderson is also central to Surreal’s hypnotic Happiness, not only as songwriter but as the vocalist too. Network then did their “let’s try this” thing by letting loose Italian house godfathers The Fathers Of Sound on the track parts. They threw down and created a progressive (but dreamy) house anthem that is to this day massively in demand.

Slo Moshun’s game changer (House slows down into Hip Hop then ramps up back into House) Bells Of New York was produced by Mark Archer & Danny Taurus. It became huge literally overnight. Various attempts to remix it were tried but in the end it was back to Mark who demonstrated that sometimes the original creator of a track is best able to re-imagine it by coming up with his much loved Beefy Bells remix.

Inner City’s stark and brutal Ahnonghay saw Kevin Saunderson going back to his Detroit Techno roots. Fittingly it was one of the UK’s disciples of that innovative Belleville Three era,Dave Clarke, who supplied the awesome remix contained here.

Rhythmatic’s Mark Gamble created a British Bleep House anthem with the sledgehammer Demonz. The original won the support of John Peel with repeated BBC Radio plays underlining incessant club plays. Again it’s the original artist who does that remix thing best with Mark’s Sequel mix managing to improv his classic original.

Neal Howard’s Indulge was the debut Network release. His music sounded like it was from another planet and he was hailed as Chicago’s answer to Detroit genius Derrick May..Here we present Derrick’s Mayday remix of To Be Or Not To Be which was the flip to Indulge. This was Network’s debut release, and it is hard to imagine a label having a more euphoric greeting card.

The album concludes with a remix of a track recorded at a live concert in 1989.. To be clear THE TRACK that defined that year’s Acid House cultural revolution. Derrick May brought along Carl Craig to perform with him as Rhythim Is Rhyhim when invited to support Inner City at London’s Town And Country Club . Luckily Kool Kat - the predecessor to Network - recorded for posterity an historic rendition of Strings Of Life. Roll on a few years and Network went into the vaults and asked Ashley Beedle to work on the tape. He completely remoulded it and conjured up a new incarnation of Strings Of Life.

JAZZ N PALMS - Ses Rodes LP 2x12"

Ses Rodes is the new concept double album by Jazz N Palms for the brand-new label, Jazz N Palms Recordings. This is a lush instrumental project inspired by a move to the legendary Mediterranean island of Ibiza and the album art shows a house from the north of the island that typifies its famous architecture.

Ibiza might be known as the party capital of the world but it also has a silent and ancestral side that is sweet and slow. It's surrounded by beautiful nature and rhythms, and that is what has made artists and adventurers fall in love with the place ever since the 1930s. This new double album is dedicated to that way of life, which has remained almost unchanged till the early '80s. It is presented as a cartesian grid of Space-Time - one record is about space and the environment with tracks Mar, Playa, Bosque and Cielo meaning Sea, Beach, Forest and Sky, and the other follows the times of the day on tracks Mañana, Mediodía, Tarde, Noche, meaning Morning, Midday, Evening, and Night.

The Jazz N Palms label and producer is Riccio, who has put out a series of promotional edits on vinyl and cassette during the last three years. Ahead of conceiving this album, he met one of the youngest and most talented musicians of the island at a jazz night at the famous Pikes hotel and the pair went on to work together here. The resulting hour of music is inspired by the jazz-fusion of the late '70s, offered up in a contemporary way and was recorded in two sessions between the winter of 2020 and the spring of 2021 at Magrana Studios, where several rock bands have recorded since the early 2000s. It was mixed by island resident Ben Westbeech and Riccio.

The album kicks off with lush and breezy jazz-funk stylings and takes in lively lounge sounds, blissed-out downtempo, sunny broken beat and late-night synth laced beats that are perfect for open-air dances, cocktails on the terrace or grown-up discos.

This is a timeless album of great musicianship that taps into a very different and superbly soothing side of Ibiza.

SJ Tequilla + Aaty - SJ Tequilla + Aaty presents SJTeknobuskers

Smooth acid injected edgy house cuts on this new Klasse Wrecks! For the last 3 years SJ Tequilla (Naota Matsuda) and Aaty Matoba have been a regular but hidden fixture in Berlin's underground music scene. You may have caught them at their regular spot in a dark tunnel next to the sprawling Ostkreuz station in Kreuzberg, lucky to sneak a quick listen before the cops came in and shut things down yet again. Armed only with an electrical generator, a 606, 303 and various dub echo delay units the pair have slowly been refining their Teknobusker project into quite a special thing. Proving that creativity blooms best when using a limited set of tools, the SJ Teknobuskers music is gritty and dark but also retains an important sense of humour. WRECKS029 was recorded between the years 2018-2019 and does a deft job in capturing a flavour of the rhythms, tones and squelches that echoed down the tunnels during Berlin's endless summers.

ULTRAFLEX - INFINATE WELLNESS LP

Ultraflex’s new album ‘Infinite Wellness’ is naughty. Are you really allowed to combine a horny saxophone solo with a relentless eurodance beat, steel drums and shameless moaning? No, that is not ok. Neither is putting a melodramatic Spanish guitar solo in an excessively erotic power ballad, nor ending a whole album on a loud gong. Which is precisely why they’ve done it. Ultraflex aren’t interested in being good girls, but rather to explore what they can get away with - relying on faux innocence and devious charm. And they do get away with it all thanks to the immaculately pristine production that drapes the whole thing in glossy sophistication.

‘Infinite Wellness’ is a mashup of disco, R&B, 80’s synth pop, Italian 70’s film music and eurodance, with some references to jazz and classical music. Sources of inspiration include Estonian synth-funk producer Uku Kuut, International Music System, Master C & J and Alice Deejay on the dashing singles ‘Baby’, ‘Mi Vuoi’ and ‘Under The Spell’; Enrique Iglesias, Spice Girls and author Carmen Maria Machado on their power ballad ‘Melting Away’; while also drawing inspiration from Alessandro Alessandroni and Snoop Dog on the sensual ‘Ultrasex’.

The high note of the album is the evident friendship behind the music – you can vividly imagine the pair grinning in the studio while whispering a sensual Norwegian quote or adding secretly recorded party conversations. Their exhilarating playfulness welcomes you into their intimacy and lets you in on their secrets while inviting you to dance!

Jamie Jones - Don't You Remember The Future LP (2x12")

Having been previously released digitally and on CD back in 2009. We decided RSD 2022 was a great opportunity to release this seminal album on Red Transparent vinyl for the first time.

‘Don’t You Remember The Future’ is the debut artist album from Jamie Jones, peering into the coming apocalypse with a body-shaking, teeth-grinding, tripped out fusion of sound on Crosstown Rebels.

There are some talents that remain inconspicuous and then there are some you can’t ignore. Jamie Jones is the latter, quickly rising to superstar status in underground dance circles over recent years. Releases on Crosstown Rebels Hot Creations, Defected, Cocoon, Get Physical and BPitch have catapulted him to become a cult figure and he is widely admired for his true originality. From his debut single ‘Amazon’, to his albums' anthem ‘Summertime’, his unique sound has won him worldwide audiences and this album has been widely anticipated as one to change the face of current house music.

With ‘Don’t You Remember The Future’ Jamie Jones delivers an album of “intergalactic techno house, where old school prince meets cybertron.” A seamlessly blended up-tempo mix filled with eerie and energetic moments. Featuring ten brand new tracks from Jamie Jones, alongside this years dance floor anthem ‘Summertime’ and the current ‘Galactic Space Bar’ - which features the vocals of Egyptian Lover - the album’s twelve tracks are stitched together in an entangled web of beats and bleeps, available digitally as separate edits.

Cosmic cuts such as ‘Mars’ and ‘Deep In The Ghetto’ create a new dimension through soaring synths and idiosyncratic samples while the sonic dance floor weapons ‘Half Human’ and ‘This Is How’ release the lethal disco master within Jamie Jones. The jacking, peak time moments of ‘Summertime’ and ‘Sand Dunes’ produce a current take on the early acid house sound and each step of this peculiar story solidifies the strange notion of being within an undiscovered time and place. ‘Don’t You Remember The Future’ features the guest vocals of a variety of musical souls, checking off some of Jones’ remote influences and revealing the greater versatility of this skillful artist. Norwegian oddball duo Ost & Kjex feature on the anthem, ‘Summertime’.

The seductively charged ‘Absolute Zero’ unmasks the talent of London based DJ, producer and vocalist Alison Mars (AKA Alison Marks), resulting in a beautifully epic and mysterious after hours track, and the toxic ‘Galactic Space Bar’ features live vocals from one of the creators of the electro scene, The Egyptian Lover, an old hero to Jamie Jones through early rap cuts like ‘Egypt, Egypt’ and ‘I Need a Freak .’ ‘Don’t You Remember The Future’ vinyl release is the album that brought the future into the present."

Moullinex - A Fistful of Stars

Moullinex makes his debut on Crosstown Rebels with a three-track EP titled A Fistful of Stars. The release highlights the multi-dynamic approach of the artist, who blends enchanting electronic melodies with club-orientated moods. Fascinated by the solar system, Moullinex's music conveys cosmic feels and radiant energy, perfect for an open-minded dancefloor.

The title track unfolds with a lugging kickdrum and lustrous chords, meandering into a celestial soundscape that tingles the senses—a poignant opener. On the flip, Atacama Skies bristles with shaker-led percussion and tribal drums before a starry synthline winds between the beats. Closing tune JFC switches the vibe with an elastic bassline and choppy rhythm, in typical Moullinex style, he penned it live in one afternoon.

Moullinex is a producer, DJ and co-founder of the label Discotexas. He runs the imprint alongside fellow Portuguese artist Xinobi. Together, the pair release nu disco, melodic techno and organic house by international producers spanning Anja Schneider, Diana Oliveira, Oma Nata and many more. Today, Moullinex combines each field into electronic music production, evoking exuberant sounds for reflective listening and club-based audiences. With a versatile aesthetic, Moullinex has remixed tracks by Cut Copy, Sebastien Tellier, Royksopp and Robyn.

Terr - Wings Of Time

Terr

Wings Of Time

12inchPH109
PHANTASY SOUND
29.10.2021

Following recent appearances on Permanent Vacation, Mute and Correspondant, Terr makes a triumphant return to Phantasy with a deeply dreamy new single, ‘Wings of Time’. Marking Terr's third appearance on the label, and her first since 2019, 'Wings of Time' is complimented by a momentous remix from Tornado
Wallace.

‘Wings Of Time’ serves to underscore Daniela Caldellas’ talents as both a producer and performer, a songwriter and a master of dancefloor atmosphere. Terr’s assured vocal performance once again takes front-and-centre, a warm beckoning light through a journey made of shimmering pads, wistful chords and
defined by a powerful sense of groove. An instrumental edition further highlights the arrangement, which resolves with rare, cosmic catharsis.

Tornado Wallace appears to stretch the time Terr sings of on his elastic, tunnelling remix, grinding out every inch of tension and detail from the blueprint, expanding minds and widening eyes in the process. While Terr’s original will likely send dancers to the heavens, Wallace reverses the energy source for an unexpectedly bass-heavy interpretation that generates a different, earthier pleasure.

That should give you an idea of what to expect here - a wonderfully bespoke and boutique mix of slow-motion dub, Balearic pop, New Age sounds, Japanese synth and proto-deep house with extra character. It's a bonkers collection that brings real charm to the club.

John Tareugram has had his phone on Airplane mode for a while. Procrastination is always around the corner, but he’s now releasing two tracks that combine subtle candid melodies and efficient, old-fashioned disco.

The Clock and Disco Alarm are put together in a MAXI named Deadline, a tribute to all the ones he’s never met. Expect cold sweats, good stress and frenzy on the dancefloor!
