Volume 2 in Trax new re issue series "Chicago Trax", delves deeper into the archives to unearth more 'lost tracks' from the legendary Chicago house label.
Kicking off with "Dum Dum - Part 2" by Fresh (TX115 - 1986), following on from Part 1 which came out on Larry Sherman's Precision (named after his pressing plant) in 1984, and included a prototype version of what would become "Real Love" by Jesse's Gang. Its follow up, Part Two, produced by Jesse Saunders was just as basic consisting of bass, drums and the occasional squelch or stab.
Next up... Yes its him again - Farley Jackmaster Funk with "Give Your Self To Me" (TX116 - 1986). Featuring uncredited vocal performances from both Ricky Dillard and Kevin Irving, this is almost symphonic in comparison with some of Farley's previous foray's into the studio, possibly aided by the fact he utilised a producer, Danny Wilson, to finesse his efforts.
On the B side we start with Willie Wonka's "What Is House (TX122 - 1986). Dwayne Grant's name seems to have slipped off the radar, but this wasn't even his first release, having already recorded under the name Grant for Sherman's Precision the year prior to this. Unusually for some, "What Is House" is Linn drum-heavy and from memory, I believe this vocal comes from the producer reading an early piece written about Chicago house. Yet another underrated tune from the vaults.
Finally we have Radio Fashion "What You Deserve" (TX123 - 1987). An anomaly in the Trax catalogue, Radio Fashion would seem more at home an obscure Belgian label or even on Wax Trax! Although they did contribute to other house releases (like "The Jackin' National Anthem" on Hot Mix 5), vocalist Jim Romano turned up on a Die Warzau album in the early 90's doing background vocals.

Hudd Traxx call on London based US Producer Lance De Sardi for their last EP before they hit 50 Releases and celebrate their 10th Anniversary. De Sardi it seems is more than up for the task, and it's no surprise having had previous releases dating back to the 90's on classic labels like Seasons & Om, as well as his more recent Legwork Records, which he co-owns. Pariah kicks the EP off in fine style with a Deep House Monster of a track, smooth beats, an infectious vocal and lush pads ensure that this will be a big one for the heads. Although the EP only has 3 tracks there's plenty of variety. Flip for the B Side and find a tough Acidy number in Youth, and a groovy track in Race the Clock which is made for the dance floor. 2015 is already proving to be a big year for Hudd Traxx following releases from Iron Curtis & Nachtbraker, and Lance De Sardi keeps the flag flying high with this solid EP.

Richeart is a young cat from Italy that's been doing his thing like he is from the D. He played these 3 joints to Jerome Derradji and after some finagling and editing, here's his first 12' for Still Music. It's dirty, raw and uncompromising. Just like it should be on any dancefloor.

Benson Herbert & Leo Picking aka Voyeur stepped onto the scene in 2012 with their 'Blame It On The Youth' EP, released through Kerri Chandler's then fledgling MadTech imprint, the New Jersey legend has mentored the duo ever since shifting them onto parent label Madhouse with the 'Rain Away' EP and featuring a Voyeur remix of his and Jerome Sydenham's 'Mama' on his Watergate compilation. Here we see the pair return to Madhouse with their soul-infused sound that's seen them pick up support from the likes of Norm Talley, Nicholas and John Daly. Title cut 'Tonight' kicks off the release and sees Voyeur offer up a classically sample based cut, fusing an array of chopped up snippets with loose organic rhythms and ethereal synth flourishes running alongside analogue bass licks and hypnotic vocal murmurs. 'Don't Lie To Me' retains a similar aesthetic with dusty drum sounds running alongside lavish piano, horn and vocal hooks. Entering the latter half of the release we have 'Why' which takes on a jazz-infused house feel, employing infectious guitar riffs, fluttering Rhodes lines and a bumpy rhythmic swing.
Closer 'Philae & Rosetta' then rounds off this classy collection on a deeper tip with sparse understated rhythms while an underlying blues vibe adds a smooth and smoky feel to things.

Toronto Hustles kick their EP off with the classic house sound of 'In Your Mind'. Mr Fingers style bassline over chunky chords and a well chosen Rasta vocal sample builds an infectious house groove. 'Just Enough' is perfect terrace material and will keep those early morning deep house heads happy. 'The Raw Cut' brings a tougher groove to the EP, reminiscent of that roper mid 90's US house sound from Chicago.

After a lengthy break Mark Henning returns with his new label Swing and four on-point tracks. 'Stash House' kicks things off with a crisply produced groove with snatched male vocals and rounded bass keeping the swing high. 'Exit Acid' ups the energy levels with an acidic tinged b-line proving a grimier feel whilst flip side's 'James Hughes Blues' is all about the breakdown; a neat synth line and huge bass tones lending it a more anthemic edge. Lastly 'The Horror' opts for a lower key ride, fuller male vocal imbuing the track with a sleazier feeling.

Next up on Crosstown Rebels is a classy deep tech cut from one of Sweden's finest exports - Ida Engberg. Making her debut on Crosstown Rebels with 'Devil Dance', Ida proves her undeniable power to move the dancefloor as she combines her tough yet groovy style with a sexy dose of acid. B-side 'Silhouette Of A Ghost' is a housier affair, with a lighter bounce yet injected with some filthy distorted bass. Featuring reworks by the legendary Mr G and Ida's close cohort Adam Beyer, the 'Devil Dance' package is essential for any DJ box and best served up on a system that's worthy.

Ida Engberg is a global techno megastar. DJing from an incredibly young age and working her way up from local bars in hometown Stockholm to residencies in Marbella followed by season in Ibiza 2005, Ida then turned attention to production and by 2007 had releases out on Get Physical and Pickadoll. With European tour dates pouring in, Ida came to play her first Drumcode gig in 2008 and later joined the ranks of the juggernaut collective in 2011, often playing alongside Drumcode founder Adam Beyer and also making her mark with releases on the label. The dancefloor domination has continued with sets at the most prestigious clubs and festivals in the world. 2014 will see Ida kick off a residency for Verboten in NYC plus appearances at Damian Lazarus's next Rebel Rave and 9th annual Get Lost in Miami. Ida is to follow this up with a series of EPs for Crosstown Rebels so watch this space.

Delivering a superb dub mix of 'Devil Dance', prolific UK techno veteran Mr G bestows his unmistakable raw and bass heavy thump and groove with his 'NY Dub'. Mr G is a legend by anyones standards - a stronghold in the industry as much as in his pioneering days with The Advent. Nowadays Mr G is found lighting up the catalogues of Rekids, Running Back, Bass Culture and Contemporary Scarecrow as well as releasing on his own imprint Phoenix G.

Fellow Swedish techno royalty Adam Beyer delivers a suitably loopy remix of 'Devil Dance' - clunking and chunking up the percussion and with a groovy little suction motif, Adam once again proves he's a true master of rhythm. Launching the now seminal label Drumcode in 1996, Beyer is the kingpin of the Stockholm scene and as well as a plethora of releases on labels Planet Rhythm, Truesoul and of course countless on own labels Drumcode and Code Red, Adam has also recently created a stunning live act with Cari Lekebusch.

This is the relaunch "Limited edition Album" (475 copies only, remastered from the original master tapes) of the Male Productions label. It contains theAoriginal songs of "The True Underground Sound Of Rome" from the rare and sought after EP released in 1991 on "Male Records" plus two unreleased tracks recorded in 1991. In Italy during early 90's after the "disco era" was time for the new born "Underground Music" movement. Male Productions represents the first italian electronic-house independent label, based in Rome and managed by Chicco Furlotti, former club-DJ and organizer of the early italian rave parties. This Album features Stefano Di Carlo and other big names from the italian electronic and house music scene like Leo Young and Mauro Tannino... We can't call this music as deep-house, ambient or techno because it's The True Undergound Sound Of Rome !

DJ Nephil steps up with the third self release on his GRTW label, featuring new artists from across the atlantic as well as one experienced american producer. This follow up to his previous solo effort featuring a remix from another upstart in the form of JASSS is a worthy continuation of his off kilter sonic expedition.

A1, Chris Mitchell "T.C." After a quieter 2015 Chris Mitchell returns with the a more serious tone. Chris starts the ep with a house tempo grinder as a growling bass morphs over an intricate 505 pattern. Vocal samples and keys emerge to carry the track along until a sinister string tone arrives.


A2, Retrograde Youth "One Last Try" Medellin's exciting new artist follows up his premier on Delta Funktionen's radio matrix with a dark storm of rugged drums draped in extraterrestial synth tones. A hard snare punctuates a curtain of intensity that consistently morphs into more warped territories.

B1, DJ Nephil "Bipolar Disorder" Nephil picks up the pace here as we are introduced into this cut with an arpeggiated synth pattern seemingly contained in a deep hall with a background vocal in some distant form. In stylistic form with the rest of the EP Nephil continues with an active and agressive drum pattern as the palette expounds with high pitched synth fx and midrange synth lines.

B2, Vault "Up Through The Concrete", newcomer Vault hails from Knoxville, TN, home other intriguing artists like Grey People, Alex Falk and Will Azada. Vault brings the most energetic offering to the EP. EBM inspired high tempo drums slice a furious arpeggiation. Vocals add the most hypnotic layer along with some synth lines that build tension throughout. The perfect climax for this rough and subterrainian EP.

"The third instalment of Braiden's Off Out label arrives via Chunyin, a new dancefloor orientated project by Hong Kong born, Sydney based artist, singer and producer Rainbow Chan. Early support from Benji B, Bill Kouligas, Pearson Sound, Joy Orbison amongst others The lead track of this release, ""Wild Flight"", was the genesis of this project, created as she started to explore the world of murky dancefloor music. The track delivers a raw, punky attitude with a nod to minimal wave, littered with warped organic sounds and samples of Hong Kong new wave cinema. Following this is ""Emporium"", a relentless jacking dancefloor number, syncopated groove laden drums married with airy atmospherics. ""Shi"" closes this EP with a unique and brooding techno inspired track that rolls yet feels as though it's perpetually falling apart at the seams. Vinyl comes with screenprinted and Chinese seal hand-stamped artwork designed by Braiden, illustrated by Chunyin."

APOENA get his tracks played by names such as Delano Smith, Luke Hess, Agoria, Baby Ford, Jus Ed (etc...) since his first record out. Known to bring groove into deepness, the brazilian producer may be showing his stronger record so far with "Intense EP". The A Side provides prime driving stuff while B Side take the mood to a more profound level.

Hudd Traxx 3rd installment of their 10th Anniversary series comes from Eddie Leader, Hector Moralez, Washerman, Brett Johnson & Rhythm Plate. Label owner Eddie Leader delivers a deep & moody house groover with the slick vocals of long time Hudd Artist Hector Moralez, aptly title 'Way Back'. Washerman picks the pace up with 'Twilite', which is reminiscent of legendary Detroit label Underground Resistance, and adds to the continued diversity of this project. Brett Johnson's 'Mr Smarty Pants' is re-released after gaining plays from the likes of Laurent Garnier and an edit by Dyed Soundorom. Closing out the EP are 2 of the most underrated Producers in the business; Rhythm Plate. 'Keep Moving' was Overshadowed by 'Inside Me' on the 'Robbin Hudd EP' in 2007 but is given it's time to shine on 'Now & Then Part 3' and is a fine addition to the 10 Year celebrations.

This stellar collection of artists includes:- Yoko Ono, avant garde musician, conceptual artist and one of the most controversial female artists of all time, Bootsy Collins, widely regarded as one of the finest Funk/R'n'B bass players in the world, Dave Ball, co-founder of Soft Cell, notorious UK synth pioneers with the uniquely sleazy electric soul sound, Fred Schneider from the manic, bizarre and highly innovative US new-wave group B-52's and Alan Vega, vocalist of the essential and groundbreaking New York duo Suicide. A full list of collaborating artists is below.Hifi Sean is the songwriter, DJ and producer Sean Dickson. He is most famously known as front man of the Scottish band The Soup Dragons, responsible for a series of huge hit singles, 'I'm Free', 'Divine Thing', and 'Mother Universe'. Dickson was also the main creative force behind the follow-up project The High Fidelity, a much more artful and intimate project, critically acclaimed for the releases 'Demonstration' and 'The Omnichord Album' . Those albums included two very rare musical collaborations between Dickson and legendary Radio DJ John Peel and also the late Mickey Finn (one half of 70's musical giants T-Rex). In some ways, this was the germination of an idea that would provide the conceptual foundation behind 'FT Sean underwent a total musical reinvention at the turn of the millennium, evolving and transforming his creative energies from a guitar playing band front-man to a DJ. He began playing house, disco and electro in Glasgow's burgeoning and innovative club scene, before relocating to London in 2006 where he began to become a staple figure at deep house underground and afterhours clubs.As the artist Hifi Sean he is now a highly respected DJ and producer, having held residencies at Fire, Ministry of Sound, Shoreditch House and Savage Disco, as well as playing regular international shows in Europe and the USA.In creating 'FT', Sean has carefully fused elements from his past and present musical lives into something unique and joyous:The album is a journey through psychedelic dance rhythms, and electronic and soulful moods, drawing from elements of Disco, Chicago house, Detroit techno, and London underground party roots.
