Alex "Omar" Smith has never been one for modesty, so we shouldn't be too surprised that he's called his latest full-length - his fifth in total - The Best. To be fair, he is rather good at producing high-grade deep house, and here unveils another eleven gems. Interestingly, he's recruited an impressive cast-list of collaborators and guests, including Norman Talley, Kyle Hall, OB Ignitt and, most surprisingly of all, Bristol-based Tom Bug. Highlights are plentiful, from the dusty afro and blues influences of the tribal "Chama Piru's", and hazy, Rhodes-heavy vocal cut "AhRevolution", to the hip-wigglin' disco-house influences of "Seen Was Set", and retro-futurist, Inner City style Divinity hook-up "On Your Way".

Javonntte rarely seen but often heard this talented artist has toured with Aretha Franklin, been featured on tracks with Andrés, Amp Fiddler, Blake Baxter & has had some very rare and sought after releases on now defunct label Noveau Riche. Now he returns to Detroit his track based roots for a dancefloor stompin 12". We start with Keep Bouncin' which say it all in the title with a very familiar sample, Chaka's Revenge will have them screaming for more. The B side he gives us My Life very reminiscent of early Prescription days and rounds it off with heart strokin tune These Words that should easily capture the ears of your constituents! Local Talk welcomes Detroit house music legend Terrence Parker to the family. His release is not only the first of 2017 but also marks the 75th release on Local Talk.


Sometimes you just want a producer to deliver what he's best at and with these two tracks that is exactly what we get.
Opening track Gratiot Avenue Piano is a straight forward piano house track that hits peak hour business in just a couple of minutes. If you like the classic Terrence Parker sound like we do, then don’t look any further.


On the flip Unconditional embellishes all that's good about a house track, a delightfully soulful house bump together with an infectious organ hook. There's no messing around on this release and Terrence never puts a foot wrong throughout these two tracks, both are perfectly conceived from start to finish.

Lazy Ants combines on 4 peak the slices of House and Techno with none other than Lauren Flax and M.F.S: Observatory.

Audio Soul Project is back with their latest vinyl-only EP, Simurgh. With a title inspired by the mythical Persian bird, these four tracks fuse elements of house, R&B, dub, and drum & bass to create an ecstatic and hypnotic experience.

The EP kicks off with "Deliver Me," a dreamy house track with warm filtered chords and bouncing synth bass. R&B female vocal ad libs pepper the groove and the refrain "Deliver Me" adds a sense of yearning. The percussion, including morphing 4x4 and breakbeat drums, piano and synth stabs, nod to the cerebral Detroit and Chicago house compositions of the mid 90s.

"Azizam Dub" takes a more stripped-down approach with a subsonic bass line bump and Juno 106 stabs. Frantic percussion and deftly cut vocal samples accent the ebbs and flows of the arrangement, making for a dynamic and engaging dance.

The B-side of the record starts with "Internal Vybrations," a bass-heavy drum & bass track that winds and jumps with multiple layers of deep, fluttering bass and ambient pads and strings. Percussion layers like hi-hats, shakers, and maracas lift and relax the rhythm in parallel to the rest of the composition, making for a hypnotic and trance-inducing vibe.

The B2 track on the EP, "Celebration Dub," is a bass-heavy swinging house track with ecstatic diva "Whooo" samples that punctuate the ups and downs of the groove's energy. Classic reggae and dub-influenced vocal samples and heavy tape delay on certain key instruments add to the joyful and uplifting vibe of the track. The keyboard

and string section can transport a dancer to other realms of consciousness if they let themselves go to the groove.

Simurgh is a masterful fusion of various genres that showcases Audio Soul Project's production prowess and ability to create an entrancing sonic journey.

'Multiverse' is a word used to describe an infinite group of disparate universes including the ones currently inhabited by humans. A myriad of realms that sit side by side, undetected by our senses, surround us at any given moment. The multiverse theory was first confirmed by tracking leakage of electromagnetic waves filtering from one dimension into the next. When these waves were transposed to fit into frequencies audible by the human ear, the recordings were studied by a team of scientists, who found that they contained rhythmic elements that resembled a speech pattern of an alien language.

After years of research and manipulation the audio was found to be a looping recording of an alien voice speaking the words: 'IDWT005; coming soon to a universe near you.'

D//P is dedicated to pushing the envelope beyond left field yet simultaneously tangible and minimal. Emphasizing Soul with unique vocals, electronic or acoustic instrumental expression, releases are deeply seeded in the origin of music, art, culture and underground roots.

The Twilite Tone of D//P, walks the tightrope of traditional Chicago House aesthetics and forward thinking mpc beat culture. It features the butterfly-like vocals of Rozzi Daime taking one on an ephemeral and emotional ride through her life that both arouses sexuality and inspires empathy for the damsel in distress.

The instrumental versions by Tone and Ge-ology serve as alternative routes arriving to the conclusion

A few Highlights from the sessions Leron recorded in 1987-88 when he was fifteen or so. China Trax, featured on SS012 ,came from these sessions. These were hand made, meaning no sequencing was used for the keys on any of the songs featured, using cassette tape overdubs, a lost science. Omar-S touched up the material from those cassettes for this release on vinyl. Tip!

The Chicago-based artist, real name Andres Ordonez, has been a fixture in US house music circles since the '90s, releasing a string of EPs on labels like Sistrum, Semantica and Sound Signature. Theo Parrish's outlet, which last year put out a live mix from Ordonez, will handle his first album.
