What, exactly, is a selector Dekmantel has long been determined to find out, even before the Amsterdam-based crew added an official Selectors stage to its annual summer festival in 2014. While the stage has since played host to an elite class of DJs that includes the likes of Floating Points, Mike Servito, Traxx, DJ Harvey, Ben UFO, and Donato Dozzy, to name just a few, Dekmantel came to realize that the Selectors concept needed a larger platform of its own.

As such, 2016 will see the launch of both a limited-capacity festival and compilation series, both bearing the Selectors name. The compilations will come first, with Motor City Drum Ensemble, Young Marco, and Joy Orbison at the helm of the initial three chapters. These are not mix CDs; every Selectors compilation will include a collection of hand-picked, unmixed tracks personally curated by the artist.

Admittedly, drawing a line between "selectors" and mere DJs is an all-but-impossible task—it's essentially a "you know it when you see it" proposition—but it's hard to argue that Motor City Drum Ensemble (a.k.a. Danilo Plessow) doesn't tick all of the required boxes. He's been digging for records since his teenage years, and his DJing has become the stuff of legend, thanks in no small part to his head-turning sets at the last few Dekmantel festivals.

In truth, Plessow's relationship with Dekmantel dates back to the earliest days of the Motor City Drum Ensemble project, making him a natural candidate to head up the inaugural Selectors compilation. As expected, he's thrown himself into the task; selecting a want list from his collection of 15,000 records was no easy task, but getting permission for the final tracklist was even tougher.

One song in particular, Raphael Green's "Don't Mess with the Devil," required him to personally call up a church in St. Louis, Missouri. "The guy, he's a Bishop," he says. "When the Ferguson protests were happening, for example, he was on CNN explaining his thoughts on the whole thing, so he's a known public figure, but nobody really knew that he had this amazing record that was recorded in '79 or '80. His voice is just unbelievable. It's the kind of record that when I heard it the first time, I couldn't believe that there had only been like 100 copies pressed, and that this wasn't actually big."

Motor City Drum Ensemble's record bag is full of these kinds of gems, but he has no qualms about sharing a few of his secret weapons with a wider audience. "I wanted to get some of the stuff that is really, really hard to get, and make it available for younger people," he explains. "I used to be in the same situation. Back when I was 18, I would listen to a Rainer Truby mix and he would only play these $400 Brazilian records. I was like, 'Fuck, how am I ever going to be able to afford these' I was glad when there was a reissue, and it's a bit the same with the compilation now."
"Basically," he explains, "the approach for the compilation was, 'If I walked into a record store, what kind of compilation would I buy' That's what I did."

The raw jacking sexiness of Ghetto House has always played a big role in the Killekill universe. So it's high time to put out our first release which goes that direction. Italian Andrew Soul is an artist we have been watching for a while already. When he sent the demo with the extremely raw and dirty tunes that you find on the A-side of this 12, the decision was easy: Killer stuff which makes you bounce immediately - We want to put this out!
The B-side comes from Dirtbox, who is also one half of Snuff Crew and therefore has been part of the Killekill family for a while already. Actually almost from the start. Being the musical wizard he is, he can not only make house and acid music and anything else you could think of, but also class A Ghetto House. Maybe even more classic than Andrew Soul's side but ranging from the percussive style of SMMFD and Work That to the raw energy of Fukk it is definitely in no way less original.

Space is most definitely the place as far as the latest vinyl adventure from us here at Future Reactions is concerned. With galactic references aplenty, futuristic soundscapes and more than a hint of interstellar travel on the Analog Core EP, the only thing missing is an astronaut suit.

Manning the controls of this otherworldly craft is José Rico, a key figure in theMadrid underground scene through his associations with the Downbeat and Freebeat labels, who blasts off with the raw emotional electronica of Orion.

That man Rico also features alongside the much-vaunted Leonid (Dolly/Sistrum/Statik Entertainment) under their joint studio guise of Cygnuss. Having made their debut on Freebeat earlier this year with the well-received long player Night Drive, the duo are on a mission here to warm-up the dance-floor with their house-not-house rocket Journey To Outertape.

Hailing from Buenos Aires but with a sensibility rooted in Chicago and Detroit, Diego Perrisson caught the attention of the more discerning ears as co-owner of the short-lived but not-forgotten label Monochromatic. Turning heads once again with his new venture, Fundamental Sounds, Perrisson captains a smooth touchdown with the cultured deepness of Restless Ride.

Sensual and primitive, Chante Afrique Ep is perfectly encloses the most acid house digressions and its deepest roots. A work that well combines past, present and future. All the genius of the legendary Paul Johnson in three original mixes and the "Wild Circus Mix" of Chante Afrique track by Lello Di Franco aka L.D.F., an introspective and sophisticated remake. A must have!

The Soo Wavey head honcho, and self-confessed gear hoarder, drums up 4 versatile trax with a big nod to the Chicago roots. Flanging melodies, vocal snippets on repeat and the one finger stabs that just hit the spot.

It's a rare thing for two labels to come together to release a track, but KMS Records and Feel My Bicep have done exactly that.

Vision Of Love' was produced by two London based, Belfast-born blogger-production-DJ duo,
Matt McBriar and Andy Ferguson. Matt and Andy need little by way of introduction. Their 'Feel My Bicep blog" is the go-to place for tastemakers world-wide for lost and forgotten disco/Chicago house/Detroit techno/Italo edits and everything in-between. Their remix track record has also been excellent with them stamping their distinguished sound upon works from Blondes, Toby Tobias, Chamboche, Blood Orange, Cosmic Kids and many more for labels such as Domino, Wolf Music and Tusk. Will Saul then snapped them up for his label Aus, with a collaborative EP including tracks 'You' and 'Don't', which hit number one on Juno and caused the Beatport charts some bother. Then in September 2012, Feel My Bicep, (the label) launched with the highly sought after track 'Vision Of Love.' It turns out that Matt and Andy had found an old Inner City track named 'Good Love' (originally written by Kevin Saunderson and Ann Saunderson back in 2000) and naively, they sampled a section of the song and created their new track around Paris's vocal. Feel My Bicep, then released the track on vinyl only, as a limited pressing.

Matt and Andy explained 'like many house producers, when sketching down ideas and jamming in the studio, we sometimes roll through acapellas to find any little vocals snippets that work well over beats we've done. In one particular instance we stumbled across an Inner City acapella 'Good Love' that really worked with a piano riff. We titled the track 'Vision Of Love' and released it as a, limited pressing, vinyl release. In our naivete, we figured that we'd sell a few 12's and no one would really take any notice... Then, much to our surprise the track started getting played on radio 1 and getting a lot of interest. We then realised that we would have to sort out a deal with Kevin, as the sample's owner. Thankfully, he was very understanding about the whole thing and we worked out a deal to give him and Ann the credit that's due. So, while we're sticking to our original plan to keep that entire EP as vinyl only, Kevin's label (KMS Records), are releasing 'Vision Of Love' as a digital single'.

Kevin had this to add... 'Inner City and myself (Kevin Saunderson) have a long history of influencing people and the music scene with our songs. Especially with our vocal tracks and a track that was written by myself and Ann, way back in 2000 (for Inner City), is no exception. The track in question is "Good Love". At the end of last year I heard the track 'Vision Of Love' and I instantly recognized that the sample was taken from 'Good Love'. I thought, wow, that's "Good Love' and it works really well over that piano. There was some really good music happening, it had a nice sound to it and it was just perfect. I knew the artist was Bicep, so I thought let me try and reach out to these guys, to see if they would be up for letting me release the record, digitally. I could give it some exposure and we can have a win/win situation for everyone. So, we made contact with the label, we worked out a deal and here we are now!! KMS is about to release the track. It's very catchy and very hooky and that's a part of my soul, always. It doesn't always have to be just musical, both vocals and melodies have been very important to some of the biggest tracks that I've ever created'.

No remixes have been commissioned on 'Vision Of Love', but KMS is very lucky and very happy to announce that none other than Carl Craig himself, has graciously submitted a 'c2 Edit' and a 'c2 Bonus Edit', to make this a very special release indeed.

Studio Barnhus regular Your Planet Is Next makes his album debut on Mixed Up with his most personal and varied outing yet. Keeping his hazy acid house swing as main palette, here YPIN expand its vision adding elements of pastoral ambient and downtempo over his well-honed mixture of 303 basslines and skeletal rhythms. Somewhere between the early LFO and Sweet Exorcist bleep era ('Molten Smile', 'Powernap'), with extra dose of No Wave ('Huggteknik') and stoned ambient ('Trainspotting'). Best viewed as a full LP listen, but every tune is a winner. Little YPIN on cover too. Smile.

Andrew's story started behind the turntables, with his pure passion for DJing. He turned his hands to producing and started going more public with it while playing on occasion in nightclubs, adopting a deep ghetto house to techno style, which drops mostly unexpected acid particles in all them bits and pieces.

He'll never let you anticipate what's happening throghout his sets or productions - you gotta listen and love, getting straight into business. The four tracker is being released in limited numbers, holding an exclusive remix by well-known artist DJ Krime.

The G man is back with another slice of tough sounding rhythm oriented tracks, that fit perfectly in the retro series

The water surely is greener on the other side. Susan's 5th release marks perhaps the biggest step towards the so-called life of Susan. Speed and depth transform into ritualistic whistles, strange questions may be asked, but the summery seasons will blossom whilst binge eating kebabs with that wild seasoning. Susan won't create her own energy drink, but the likes of DJ Swagger, Axefield, DJ Windows XP and Joakim Hellgren sure have spiced up the spectrum of reason on this one.

Dub is the keyword, techno is the way. The very first Autarchy release represents a rapidly and constantly changing momentum. There is a black and white atmosphere that surrounds the whole vinyl four-tracker. The skilled Italian duo ALPI make their mark on the A side, together with the Wrong Assessment darker reinterpretation, shaped around solid textural processing and raw rhytmatics. It's mainly a techno release, yet XDB delivers his own breakbeatish and more reflective vision of the B side, produced by label artists Complementary Opposites. The label is at the moment under the radar, working through a connection operating into events, music production and label management in between Italy and Germany.

Sheffield newcomer Atdhe impressed with his soulful Remix of Kamal Imani's 'Cosmic Being' on recent Monologues Records release 'Dialogue Vol. 2'. 'Can I Borrow A Feeling' is a classy, stripped-back slab of piano-driven deep house that has a surprisingly big impact on the dancefloor, 'Earl St. Groove' is atmospheric and chugging with more warm melody abounding, and 'Niche Dreams' rounds off with a hazy low-slung groover. Label boss Ben Gomori injects 'Earl St Groove' with a galloping tribal rhythm on his remix, honing in on some of those tasty melodies.

UK deep house legend Nail returns to Monologues Records for a full release after his sublime 'Decisions' featured on the 'Dialogue Vol. 2' various artists 12" at the end of last year. Ever consistent, he delivers two deliciously deep gems. 'Voodoo' is a low-down chugger, chunky beats doing battle with disco and soul samples in hypnotic effect. 'On Wid It' also oozes soul in its vocal sample and twinkling keys, a garage tinge to its groove. G. Markus steps up for the remix of 'Voodoo', keeping things rolling and injecting a big groove of a bassline into the proceedings.

(New 2017 masters) After the widespread success of the first Minimal Vision compilation on the resurgent Vibraphone Recordings, The True Underground Sound Of Rome return with a second volume that takes in tracks made over a 23 year period. What comes across is how consistent the sound is, whenever an individual jam was made. The same heavy-lidded melodics and easy-funking rhythm sections prevail across all nine cuts here, at times hitting the uplifting pace of "Vertigo" or heading into the meditative pastures of "Sea Bird", but always maintaining that quintessential Vibraphone feeling. The diggers will be happy to snag the reissued tracks as well as discovering completely fresh material from Rome's premier deep house institution.

Two great friends, and exciting young talents, reunite for their second outing on Real Tone. The transatlantic partnership between Leeds-born Burnski and New York's M A N I K has already produced one special creation dancefloor smash You Know What It's Like. Full of funk and relentless energy, the track was a great fusion of the contemporary styles of two well-respected producers. It also became one of Real Tone's most charted releases in 2012 and held up a prime position in the Beatport Top 10. Now they've teamed up once again to produce the follow-up, Next To Me. Playing out like an action-packed sequel, Next To Me once again oozes funk from every pore, working off a steady bassline, solid 4x4 beats and vibrant synth work. Though the overall feeling is a little more laid back than You Know What It's Like, just like its predecesssor, it features vocals provided by M A N I K himself who often utilises his voice in his music - from simply humming basslines to straight-up singing. Rising French star Manoo (who has releases on Basenotic, Deeply Rooted House and Buzzin' Fly) steps in on remix duties and flips the track completely on its head. The man whose motto is, 'Dance or die!' transforms the funk-infused dancefloor number into an ethereal deep house track, minus the vocal. Smooth chords and a retro organ bassline keep it sultry, with Manoo's version basically a completelynew track - together with the original it makes for an essential addition to any discerning DJ's collection. It goes without saying that, individually and as a combined team, Burnski and M A N I K are a force to be reckoned with, as they've proven with both infallible Real Tone EPs. No doubt they'll be back at the top of the charts with this hot new number.

The 19th release of JEUDI showcases Deo & Z-man, one of the highly respected duos of the German underground club scene. It was a special heart wish for us to have them on board of the JEUDI ship as we are in love for their very own and unique sound since a long time.

Deo & Z-Man are bloodbrothers from Hamburg with Italian roots. They grew up influenced by different styles from Hip-Hop over Psyrock to Italopop. Now they blend everything in an inconceivable and multifaceted way. Known for impressing
live sets, enthusiastic dj gigs and innovative production skills, they never dedicated themselves to a single genre but preserved their extraversion to any kind of quality music. That let their spread expand and makes them sound unique and fresh within
the house universe.
