* As it's first full length release, Love What You Feel is proud to present Chicanismo, the debut album by Santiago Salazar. Known for his work with Underground Resistance, ICAN Productions, as well as solo releases on many notable labels, Santiago brings his working man's house and techno into the world in its most pure form on this album. His use of a variety of rhythms and beautiful melodies puts him in the upper echelon of dance music producers today, and the results here are just as satisfying at home as they are in on the dancefloor.

* By mixing his Chicano roots with his time spent in Detroit, Santiago has created a timeless musical statement on behalf of the underdogs whose contributions to house and techno are often paid lip service to, but are much more rarely realized. The groove here is just as important as the harmonies, and they work together to achieve something very special on Chicanismo. This is music that lifts the spirit to a higher plane, the true definition of soul music.

February 23rd saw the release of Sidney Charles's retrospective full length 'House Lessons' album on AVOTRE. Here we get treated to a second single from the album, complete with a fresh new remix from the original house gangster, DJ Sneak.
German talent Sidney Charles has become an influential producer since emerging in 2011: his full fat, chunky house offerings have become staples in DJ sets and he has served up many modern dance floor classics along the way. Always touring the world and laying down engaging sets full of many house flavours, here we get another fine serving of his unique sound in the form of new single 'Psyjack.'

The track is a full blooded bit of jacking house with tough drums, icy hi-hat loops and rib rattling bass that thumps out a sweaty groove. Oversized and emphatic throughout, some tripped out melodic breakdowns offer intricate musical moments before the physical drums bang once more. It's first rate club music, make no mistake.

It's a perfect track to be re-worked by I'm A House Gangster label boss and all round Chicago house pioneer DJ Sneak. His version is pricklier, and hypnotically loopy. With vocal stabs and barreling kick drums, loose, DIY sounding percussion and shooting synth lines it's a raw and genetic bit of house music that cannot fail to make dance floors sweat.


Once again we are reminded that Sidney Charles is at the top of the modern house pile and that AVOTRE know exactly who to enlist to remix their releases to the greatest effect.

Superb collection of early 90s underground deep house classics by the legendary dub maestro MK. First up is the hard-to-find remix of Terence Trent D'Arby's 'Surrender' which takes D'Arby's soulful vocal and puts some classic MK fire underneath it to create a awesome deep house banger which received heavy rotation both in the clubs and on the airwaves. Next we get one of MK's best dubs - his brilliant take on the B52's 'Tell It Like It T-I-Is', a chugging house belter which adds a haunting bass and melody to the band's expertly chopped up vocal chants. The flip side keeps up the pressure with the awesome dub mix of Betty Boo's 'Thing Goin On', another of his finest dub mixes, and lastly the in-demand classic 'Bicycle Dub' of the Pet Shop Boys' 'Can You Forgive Her', only ever available as a limited promo but huge on the underground scene.

Chicago, Chicago. It's our spiritual home here at Hizou. The city's musical influence and legacy shine brightly and proudly throughout our label. Perhaps never more so than on our latest release from enigmatic native Chicagoan, Spirit Of The Black 808. Having inherited his brother's seminal record collection at a young age and name-checking Larry Heard, Theo Parrish and Malik Pittman amongst his key influences, Sprit Of The Black 808 is steeped in the traditions we adore. His debut EP for us soundly testifies to that. Title-track Infroduction is a shuffling, slo-mo jam laden with atmosphere and groove in the mould of the great Mahogani Music and KDJ, a little more Detroit by design perhaps then, whereas by contrast Electronic Love is downright and unashamedly classic Chicago. Layers of melody and a super-deep groove are stamped all over I FunKd Up, whilst ethereal uptempo tool Rough Joint completes the package.

When Ron Trent tried to make a disco record in the early nineties he and his friend Big Ed came up with the song "the Weekend"...For us at Rush Hour this song is considered a landmark title in Chicago house. The song is sweet, soulful, driving and stands the test of time. After all those years you can still play it out and it will sound fresh. When Ron visited Amsterdam in early 2013 he gave us his blessing to re-release this gem. The whole thing has been produced with A third person and he goes by the name of Braxton Holmes. So then Erb probably means (E)d, (R)on, (B)raxton... Enjoy!

Boutique Polish vinyl imprint Astropical Tapes returns for a second outing following the widespread acclaim of Astro Buhloone's inaugural effort Forever with an EP from label boss, Marcin Krupa.

Spa House is named after Krupa's hometown Konstancin-Jeziorna, which is a historic spa resort on the outer reaches of Warsaw's administrative area. The EP is a fittingly soothing affair, from the resplendent strings and vocal harmonies that adorn the rolling title track to the loose, early morning mellowness of Jeziorna. Remixes of the latter come from Universo, who opts for a distorted, acid-licked melodic version, and Studio Barnhus signing Naphta, who chops up a broken beat and woozy chords to discordant effect.

Another fine reissue of a Chicago classic from Jeff Craven and his Large Music imprint focusing again on the dynamic artistic team of Black Ice Productions. First released in 1992 on Velvet City Records, The Black Ice EP treads more into a deeper and jazzier vibes than their other outings at that time (such as the Union Camp release). A few listens and one can easily recognize the influence that all four tracks had on future labels and artists throughout the mid and late 1990's. This is timeless, pioneering Chicago deep house at its finest and a must have for all collectors.

What can be said about Kerri Chandler that hasn't already been said The man is one of the greats of contemporary House music, a true legend & one of the most hard working & consistent producers out there today... "Trionisphere", his (second) LP from 2003 has it all, those gritty drums, the deep Garage groove, the church feeling that influences so much of his sound & those bass-lines that he's renowned for are all here, not forgetting the outstanding vocal performances from his long-time collaborator Dee Dee Brave amongst a cast of other guests.The sounds on the LP are wide ranging, from the uplifting Latin swing of "Ye Yo Ma (Mother)" to the sparse, pacey, heads down House of "It's You" we're treated to a glimpse into Mr.Chandler's sound world across 2 x 12"s & we all know that can only be a good thing! "Trionisphere" has always been a fond favourite with House aficionados around the world & hasn't been available for a little while... Until now ! Airglow Fires' is the first new Lone material to emerge since his masterful 'Galaxy Garden' album, his most complete body of work to date.
Departing from the themes of the rave/hardcore revival and cinematic interstellar travel, 'Airglow Fires' sees him exploring a more considered and intimate sound alongside a rediscovered love of classic hip-hop, as he explains "I love hip hop and house music when it's at it's rawest - to me 'Airglow Fires' has that kind of 90's basement vibe to it, where the lines between the two genres are kind blurred".
As a comeback single, 'Airglow Fires' has certainly been worth the wait - arriving just in time to surely nestle its way into all discerning DJ's record boxes this summer - from the opening celestial melodies to the insistent processions of jazz inflected chords dance around the crunchy proto house drums that shuddering sub bass it's obvious that this track has golden sunshine in its DNA.
On the flip 'Begin To Begin' explores similar territory to 'Airglow Fires' but wears its charms in a more subdued, but no less infectious manner - a repeating hypnotic chord stab, draped with burbling synth melodies and yet more tough drums combine for a sumptuous and mesmeric listen - as the song says "am I dreaming am I awake" - with music like this to soundtrack your dreams, who would want to wake up
