In 2022 Listen is presenting its very first compilation as an extension of its year-round Our Scene platform. This release unites a wide spectrum of electronic music on a double gate-folded vinyl. With 12 artists serving up anything from ruff techno to ambient, the Our Scene Compilation sketches a profile of the diversity that characterizes Brussels’ music scene.

Pacific Rhythm is once again reaching across the country to the Toronto megacity. Active Surplus is the duo of Evan Vincent (AKA Emissive) and Ian Syrett, who also appear on the fourth volume of Rhythms Of The Pacific. Their new self-titled EP is their love letter to the house music sound that first sprouted from the West Coast. It's laid-back, groovy and touched with lovely instrumentation, like the plucked strings on "Meera," a heartfelt tribute to a loved one. "Meera" and the billowing groove of "Ambrosia" might remind you of early Pacific Rhythm releases, with dainty arrangements and chords that waft across the rhythm section.

But Active Surplus put their own spin on things. The EP was heavily inspired by the stuttering drum patterns of Baltimore club, which undergird each track in subtle but noticeable ways, making the grooves that much skippier and slippier. A sampled performance from a Nomadic tribe appears on "Yeye," while the looped woodwinds and cool-blue keyboards offer a sweet melodic hook on the irresistible "One Beyond." There's a confident, naturalistic quality to these rippling grooves and silky sounds, which the duo credit to an obsession with water. After all, in their words, "we might not live by the ocean, but we're all H20 on the inside."

Following on from his 2021 debut on Phantasy, ‘Qué Sientes’ ft. Tee Amara, Cromby returns with another release that’s long been a secret weapon in his high-energy DJ sets everywhere from Berlin to his home city of Belfast, accompanied by an expertly-executed remix from Head High. Once again, Cromby provides one of his own sublime paintings as the artwork for 'Loving'.

Distinctly playable as either high-velocity house or pure rave with a refreshing streak of suspense, ‘Loving’ fires out the gate with inspired wonkiness, tripping on hardcore chords and a vocal sample manipulated to lunacy. Cromby reaffirms his instinctive ability to tip a dancefloor over the edge, planting multiple explosions of serotonin, the sort of drops that might shatter the windows of his beloved Panorama Bar, then confidently returning to a timeless groove.

Given the material, Head High, the alias of René Pawlowitz (AKA, Shed), proves a sublime choice to take on ‘Loving’. Delivering his first remix in a number of years, Pawlowitz induces a different kind of pressure, once again indulging in his lifelong devotion to classic organ chords, timeless breakbeats and the kind of chemically enhanced atmosphere bottled firsthand on the Frankfurt rave scene of the early nineties.

Complimenting the valleys of energy previously sculpted, Cromby winds things tighter on the rolling ‘Acid Trifle’, weaving percussive passages that speak for a reverence to Latin-House rhythms amid an undulating acid journey.

The record opens out with clamouring field recordings taken on Vernon's travels in Japan; the cacophony melts effortlessly into the muted beauty of "Amber Fade", its cold synths and sombre chords striking a perfect emotional balance. "Tilted" similarly plays with ambient elements, lush pads easing their way out of the sounds of a waterfall but the natural sounds are contrasted by a touch of acidic 303. This hint of the club is forefronted in "Late Nights", which dials up the energy with chunky big room drum loops, a stirring piano section showing Vernon can turn up the heat without losing the emotional side.

On the B-side, "This Moment (I Feel)" toys with a muzak sound palette and dazed poolside beats. "Disappear" lean heavily on an electro beat; but for a hazy elongated drop it's a heady dancefloor number, before easing off again into the closing track. "Start Again" is full of texture and character, cleverly arpeggiated synths cascading over a soft house jam.

It was nearly a year ago when these two graced with their hugely successful track 'Hope' on our 'Watergate XV' various artist compilation. Matthias Meyer and Ryan Davis come together again to deliver the stunning 'Love Letters From Sicily' where infectious organic grooves pave the way for a flourishing well of emotions in the form of lush pads and shimmering sonics that unfold into a tale of epic cinematic proportions. From start to finish it's a intimate piece of aural imagery, yet the duo always keep a keen percussive focus making it ideal for any dancefloor moment. To complement 'Love Letters from Sicily', we've enlisted the one and only John Digweed to rework Meyer and Davis' original of 'Hope', and with no surprise, he's given it the master's touch. Staying true to the original, while at the same time reinventing the storyline and constructing tension by saving the powerful harmonies for a later climax, he's crafted a revision that's both driving and timeless.

Bondage-Music welcome back Mihai Popoviciu, to present his new “Azul” EP comprising four original compositions from the Romanian artist, the release contains 2 vinyl only tracks.

In just a few years Noha has made a sizable impact on the contemporary tech house scene. As well as being at the helm of Nabuco Records and Panick Panick! alongside Alex Tea, he's also released a huge swathe of records on labels such as Nilla, Constant Black, Tartouffe and Point Of View. It's not hard to see why the Oscillat crew invited him to their label - his sleek and instinctive sound is a perfect fit for the subliminal house ops the Parisian imprint is best known for. "Nobody" shimmers with invention, marked out by bold, emotive synth strokes and a nagging, subtly swung groove. Oscillat bosses Mandar then take the original right down into a pristine dubbed-out mantra that gets under your skin effortlessly. It's the kind of classy execution Mandar are known for, and best of all it keeps the essence of the soul-stirring original intact in the process.

The boss of NC4K, Stones Taro's new EP is out now. This is the first release with a 12" vinyl from his own label. The first track, "Magma Diver", is an energetic breakbeat with sampled vocals from dancehall. A2, "Auto Translation", is a very practical house track with repetitive simple basslines and clear breakbeats. B1's title track "Seed Man" is a jungle track created by his own original style, with his unique use of vocals, great bassline ideas, and clear breakbeats. B2 is a Baltimore-style remix with rave sounds by Coco Bryce, a wicked producer in the modern jungle scene.

In the 1950's, English mathematical physicist Roger Penrose discovered what is known as the Penrose Triangle, an impossible geometric shape. Almost 80 years later, Spanish music producer
and sound engineer David Ponziano creates Penrose Records label, referencing this infinite figure and its resemblance to a musical loop.

A new record platform that aims to give space to musical interpretations and artists of an eclectic nature: from house to
disco, through techno, electro or acid. Every advanced subgenre of electronic music has a place in Penrose, but always under an identity of proven musical quality.

We don’t find ourselves facing an incoherent mix of elements, but a concatenation of parts that form a whole, a label that knows no limits.

Delano Smith is one of the first artists who come to mind when speaking about Detroit House and Techno. Born in Chicago and raised in Detroit, Delano's career started in the late 70's DJ'ing together with the godfather of Detroit House, Ken Collier.

The creative minds behind Handy, merch dons, illustrative geniuses, radio hosts and all-round good guys are now trying their palms at the world of the record label.

No strangers to danger, they hit the ground running with a five-track rodeo from Handy resident Maroki, complete with remixes from two standout talents of their respective scenes, 1800-Girls and Jensen Intercepter.

Kicking things off ‘Taff Trails’ a crunchy, Detroit influenced, synth laden house gem with a dose of dreamy pianos nestled in for good measure. 1800-Girls puts a breakbeat spin on the original with his emotive take. Blissful, climbing synths all tied together with a solid break. Rounding of the A side, ‘Special’ hypnotsises with reverberating vocals, lo-fi organs and acidic arps.

Flip it over to find ‘Hatchi’ a straight up electro mind melter, driving basslines, crazy reeses & infectious rhythms, before Jensen Interceptor offers his signature sound on a plate to close out proceedings. Warp-speed tempo, rapid fire synth lines and crazy percussion result in a guaranteed dancefloor destroyer.

Dungeon Meat are back with a smack. This time they call on the talents of Locklead who delivers an EP bigger than Godzilla’s wedding tackle. B-leave has been one of the most asked about tracks on Dungeon Meat and now it is finally unlocked from the vaults and is seeing the light of day. On top of that it also comes with a DJ tool to get creative with and work in the mix. Flip over for two more super solid slabs designed for dance floor detonation so make sure you protect your necks when you unleash them on the decks.

The latest missive from Constant Sound's consistently interesting Aesthetic offshoot delivers four tracks of high-quality dancefloor fusion, where dreamy and melodic deep house sounds wrap around typically swung tech-house beats. It's an attractive formula provided by French duo Mara Lakour - most famous for their releases on Roots For Bloom and Normandy Records - and one they should considering exploring further in future. We're particularly enjoying the title track, where ethereal female vocal snippets seemingly drift above comforting chords and wriggling acid lines, and the billowing, marimba style melodies of 'Dune', though flipside cuts 'Elsewhere' and 'Alodret', the latter a locked-in trip into hypnotic early morning territory, are also rather good.

Ventriloc have just launched their label with their first release consisting of 4 tracks produced by Modebakú and Gabriele Mancino and a promise to bring forward a unique dancefloor-oriented sound into the minimal scene.

Another top notch release on Aesthetic from Nolga with three tracks ready to destroy the dancefloor.

Mixing Engineer, DJ and producer Yossi Amoyal is the man behind Sushitech Records. The label turned 15 years old in 2020 and to celebrate this milestone Yossi has compiled Fluere across four discs (plus an extended Part V - Fatum). Fleure means flow in Latin and is available only on Yossi's beloved vinyl. The compilation shares some of his story through the records that inspired him and continue to do so.

No Acting Vibes is back..after 23 years! The swiss-Italian underground cult label comes with 3 original tracks from 1994 by Swiss underground Legend Flavio Cuva who produced hundreds of outstanding House Tunes together with Jamie Lewis. The tracks (A1, A2, B1) still sounds fresh today and Flavio shows all his skills serving us pure deepness on the highest grade. B2 is an early Dan Piu gem from 1994 and from No Acting Vibes back catalogue that was never released yet. Dan was in love with the New Jersey Groove back then, and this one is superbly smooth and seductive and comes very close to that transatlantic vibes.

At only 19 years old, French producer THEOS says that last year he decided to dedicate his life to music. Now he has scored his first vinyl EP, continuing Shall Not Fade's new Killer Cuts series that focuses on no-filler dancefloor oriented house music. There's more than a touch of French to the funky groove of We Miss The Crowd, featuring collabs from Denyl Brook, Cosmonection and Romeo Louisa.

Opening out the record, "Lie Machine" is a delicious warm-up for what is to come. The unstoppable bassline and disco guitar samples get your hips moving while vocal snatches get into your head and won't get out. The title track's sultry groove is similarly catchy, with the pulsing kick and deep bass melody evoking a nod to the deep tech sound of UK house music but panning synths adding that filter house edge, sweeping the listener on to "Keep Creating Your World". The hard pulse of this track is balanced with sweeping pads, ethereal and summery. Organic jazzy piano loops take centre stage in the sublime production.

Onto the B-side and three stellar collaborations with some more of the best France has to offer; "Jazzy Cruise" with Denyl Brook is skippy, upbeat day party gear, with classic noughties filter sounds that tease the ears. THEOS and Cosmonection work together on "Unusual Ego"; sweet fuzzy chords but an Ed Banger style melody keep the record pumping for the closer, "Spread Positivity" with Romeo Louisa. Cool and dance floor ready, the climax of the EP is full of nothing but good vibes.

Abukurt is the new alias of Niklas Kleber who is a german composer and music producer being involved in numerous projects from pop to electronic music. We know him as a friend for a long time and we are very pleased to welcome him to our DUAT family. The two tracks were produced in our Berlin studio by some influence of Amin Fallaha and Ruede Hagelstein.

It's been a while since Zukunft Recordings' last release but now their back on track with more quality music. Pacifica's 'Heaven Machine' is a beautifully diverse four-tracker lead by the ecstatic and vocal heavy title track.

Subb-an returns to 20/20 Vision with 'State Of Flow' featuring vocals from Oli Gosh (Crosstown Rebels). Ash Subhan has been an integral part of the deep house and techno scenes over the last decade and more with releases for One Records, Spectral and Culprit.

'State Of Flow' is a beautiful slice of deep techno that incapsulates atmospheric layers of melodies and vocals with powerful bottom heavy bass and percussive floor control. SOF is the first collaboration between Subb-an and singer songwriter Oli Gosh and has resulted in new directions and musical landscapes.ASOF comes complete with remixes from Adam Pits and Armec.
Adam Pits delivers a devious little gem aimed at dance-floor destruction that winds it's way between a heavy garage bassline and 90's four to floor house rhythms, fragmenting the vocal around an increasingly unhinged and infectious groove. It's fusion served at it's finest and a super fresh sound perfectly placed for the current club scene.

Armec accentuates and expands the immense power hidden in 'State Of Flow' by breakin' the beats up and adding heavily swung filtered loops snaking around a massive bass. The Armec remix comes complete with a twist to its tale with the additional of a magnificently wobbly arpeggiated synth twisting our melons into a right old state.

Ever eclectic electronic outlet Hell Yeah is back with another carefully curated release this winter, and it's a brand new and debut LP by Telespazio, a solo project by Italian DJ and producer Fabrizio Mammarella of Slow Motion's fame.
This is a project that has been in discussion for years, ever since label boss Marco fell in love with Fabrizio's deep digging and far ranging mix series, Telespazio, which dates back to 2007. "I think he's one of the best Italian DJs of the new generation," says Marco. "I've been impressed since 2009 when he did a compilation mix for the label entitled Hell Yeah Disco Cabinet."


For almost a decade now Fabrizio's Slow Motion brand - both as a label and event - has been at the forefront of disco, future retro sounds and grooves. Fabrizio himself is also one third of Clap Rules and releases music on labels like Bear Funk, DFA, Kitsune, Tiny Sticks and across the course of eight tracks here he showcases a wide range of electronic sounds.


Opening up the expansive LP is 'Barrier', a go-slow bit of intergalactic funk with bleepy melodies and steppy synths, whirring cosmic sounds and colour to spare. 'In Motion' then plays with grubby, dishevelled kicks and claps, spangled synths and curious patterns that are all underpinned by monstrous bass.


'Nuvolari' is another bit of deep space delightfulness with blistered synths, circling shape ships and glowing, pixelated chords all loosely tied to a chugging disco beat. 'Devices' is a beatless bit of glassy ambient that conveys a real sense of motion from this world to the next and that moody sense of soundtracking continues into the second half of the album with the expansive, twinkling 'Glideshot', skyward synths and harmonic chords of 'Rays' and broken disco grooves of 'LFO Ride'.


Closer 'Unstable' then gets all trippy and otherworldly with dark undertones, kinetic synths and snippets of vocal.
Overall this is a truly unique and idiosyncratic journey into a freaky sound world that comes wholly from deep inside the mid of Fabrizio Mammarella.

We might all be locked at home with no prospect of any serious dancefloor action before the end of the year, but when we do get allowed out again, boy will there be plenty of high grade weaponry for DJs to choose from. Aesthetic's 14th EP is one such offering, with four artists all serving up one tech house track each. And what good stuff it is too, with Gruia keeping it light and airy but locked to supple beat, and Ciphr inviting us deep down into a dubby, stripped back cavern of deft sound design and lovely wooden hits. On the back side is Benjamin Joseph's more urgent and direct 'Vice' and a mind melting number from Rodrigo that bends space and time.

British producer Portrait (AKA South London Ordnance) & Somne collaborate on new imprint - Aura Dinamica. The inaugural release arrives courtesy of the duo themselves with Speed, Noise, Machinery & The City. Dylan Forbes is a man of sustained grooves. But for the next release on Haŵs, the Irish DJ producer deviates slightly from the sounds of his previous back-catalogue to investigate the idea of collective ideals from the solitary walls of his lockdown studio back in 2020. The resulting output is ‘Mind Expander’, an idiomatic release of club-orientated house and tech tracks marbled with introspection and the hopeful craving for dancefloor unity.

The opening ‘Ride The Flange’ jumpstarts the engine with an emphatic house beat, sitting beneath swathes of misty synth lines that trip over each other in their eagerness to peer into the void beyond. ‘Mind Expander’ takes the pH back to 1, with acidic iterations, delicate chimes and a protracted build up that yields a sense of broadening thoughts and augmented senses.

On the B-side, ‘Searching’ slots together gruff, probing basslines beside melodic contours that seem to dance together with a subtle rapport like two figures treading the verge between companionship and intimacy. ‘Take U Over’ intensifies the euphoria for the close, assembling a prog-inspired motley crew of synths, reverbed soul vocals and breaks to gently charm the traveller back down from the 4-track ride.

It’s said that reality exists in the human mind, and nowhere else - so let’s make the shared journey worthwhile.

Throughout Ibadan Records' deeply-rooted New York history and its ongoing transcendent surge into the future, there are certain special moments in House music history to acknowledge. This brings us to our 138th Ibadan Records installment by Kerri Chandler. Kerri Chandler was one of the many artists who benefited from Jerome Sydenham's artistic direction. The two initially met in 1991, when Sydenham was a part of the A&R team that signed Chandler's debut single to Atlantic Records. After Sydenham founded Ibadan Records in 1995, the two collaborated on several groundbreaking projects that stand as a testament to House music history and to their long-lasting friendship. Chandler's early career evolved through illustrious House remixes and productions. Tracks like Drink On Me, Shoe-B-Doo, While We're Young and Ain't That a Bitch truly exemplify the trailblazing and original innovative spirit of Kerri Chandler and the birth of his signature sound.
