Southern California producer Jeffrey Brodsky's "I'll Be Strong" is the latest EP to appear on San Francisco based label Public Release. Its comprised of four tracks, with Brodsky's original joined by three wide ranging remixes, which complement its energetic feeling with deeper material aimed at late nights and early mornings.
The title cut is a prime time house number, which recalls the genre's underground roots through spiralling arpeggios, tweaked-up vocals, and chiming organs. But this isn't just some nostalgic memory, instead Brodsky gives the track some modern muscle via a clean production aesthetic and energetic structure, that locks the vibe in a more contemporary direction.
Mark E provides the first remix -- it's a move towards the hypnotic, with tribal drums and cascading bells that ought to provide a worthy complement to late night epiphanies, and memorably euphoric moments spent under the mirror ball. Then comes Richard Sen's take, which runs the whole thing through a filter of '80s-style acid house, with a big raw 303 bassline and dubby vocals accented with delays. The final remix duties fall on Mike Simonetti, whose version teases out the song's atmospheric space through tight, heavy drum programming and monolithic washes of synthesizer.

'Black Frames' is a creation from two major life transitions for Dave Aju, namely the end of a long-term relationship combined with a move away from his home town of San Francisco. Punctuated with philosophical statements and political punches, the former MC proves he isn't afraid to use his voice and production skills to unite music and passion with his latest album on Circus Company. The outer rhythms of deep-rooted electronic music form the backbone of 'Black Frames', while its veins are filled with the red-hot attitude of hiphop, outerspace soul, and forthright lyrical content. A remarkable variety of songs covering topics such as personal relationships ('Psylica'), cultural issues ('Race on Haight') and global government actions ('Law') rock alongside bass-centered dancefloor bombs like 'Nu Threads' and 'Clean St'. Through its body, Aju also tips his hat to 60s psych rock, early 70s fusion, and the soft undertones of blues as can be felt in the Magnum Opus of 'Vins Noirs' with it's full choir finale, the wildly fun and uptempo 'Bee's Birth' and the reflective close of 'When We Drift'. With a decade of releases under his belt and remixes for the likes of Nicolas Jaar, JT Donaldson and Herbert, San Francisco Bay Area native Marc Barrite AKA Dave Aju is a true maverick of the electronic music scene and 'Black Frames' is a proper follow-up, both a literal nod to the classic 60s/70s artwork that hung in his home studio, and a bold statement toward that rare place where breaking a sweat and breaking the rules come together. Aju's distinctive voice, a fixture in his production and live performances, has proven to have a life of its own.

Koko Edits #4 on Basic Fingers, yes it’s true.
Needing little introduction to any Basic Fingers fan Koko has made his way from splicing and dicing since the first release back in 2011.
'Family Affair' sounds like it's taken from the Norman Connors rework session Koko did a while back. This is a tasteful treatment of Deodato's 'Keep It In The Family'.
The balanced mix of additional percussion respects the original and the rearranged segments extend the dancefloor joy for almost 9 minutes.
'Love Aboard' is a smooth and seductive edit of The Love Unlimited Orchestra, as bright and warm as the summer sun

The idea behind LBL is very simple.
We keep getting sent music that we really want to own on vinyl, so we've decided to start pressing these tracks ourselves.
Everything we have scheduled has a club feel, but past that we think you'd be hard pushed to pinpoint a specific style which dominates our releases.
For our first release we have music from Scott Fraser (Crimes of the Future), People Get Real (Join Our Club), Jamie Blanco (Ess O Ess) and Joonipah (Nixwax). We could list a whole load of meaningless genres to describe the music to you (Machine House, Neu Acid, Bashment Techno and, er... Hi Tek Soca () ) but we think it's best you just listen and make your own mind up.
Currently, all LBL releases will be limited to a pressing run of 300 copies.

Russian-born dance avant-guardiste Philipp Gorbachev is in self-
exile - from Moscow to Berlin - due to his political views and his
purpose to join Cómeme in 2011. This collective of musicians and artists, operating between Latin America and Europe, is known for a killer instinct in producing forward thinking dance music beyond any standards of contemporary music industry. Focusing on serving dance music audiences all around the globe, Philipp Gorbachev composes, produces and performs music in a way that resembles the heritage axe of Russian avant-garde and
Moscow's Conceptualist movement rather than following any current dance music tradition. Based on a unique performing and recording technique - created and tested together with his buddy Matias Aguayo in 'The District Union' studio in Berlin - 'Silver Album' is a well-collected music
piece consisting of nine live performed arrangements, crafted with insurgent Russian lyrics that are fable-like inventions, fairy tales that deal with spiritual vibes, using the sound of the Russian language in order to form a new alternative music.
Musicians like ex-Helmet-and-now-Battles drummer John Stanier, as well as co-producers and mixing engineers like Butthole Surfer's guitarist Paul Leary; Mexican Cómeme brother Daniel Maloso; or Non Standard Productions head honcho and Ostgut Ton artist Tobias Freund, have been welcomed by Philipp Gorbachev to take part in the production of the record.
The first single of the Silver Album, called - Arrest Me' is a dedication to the imprisoned people around the world, a journey starter towards freedom of spirit, pioneering in never before expressed sounds,
timing and space control.
If you need an easier punchline: it simply is 'The First Russian
Dance Album'!

Already a huge demand for this new release from The Reflex (as always) after the pre-audio been floating about on Soundcloud and making a big noise.
Just like his previous Revisions releases its reworks that are just not reworks but some next level stuff.
Always using original stems and tweaking the parts to perfection we this time get served a classic funk anthem together with one of the biggest boogie tunes of all time.
Sounds good
Just bag it...you know you're in good hands with The Reflex !

For its 2nd 4 track V/A EP Foto welcomes more new artists to the roster in the form of Andy Hart & Max Graef (AU), MermaidS (UK), and Riff Clichard (Outer Space). Label boss OOFT! also contributes a track on the A-Side, with the wallowing 'Jareth's Revenge' blending strings, samples, bass and more into a 110bpm roller. Next up the Aussie dudes Andy Hart & Max Graef craft a funking slow house jam in the shape of 'Dem Young Jabronis', all warm chords and bumping beats.
Over on the flip MermaidS show why they're some serious contenders for a big breakthrough this year - 'Run With The Night' shifts through the gears for 5 minutes before breaking into downright euphoric territory. Rounding things off the mysterious Riff Clichard takes some time out from polishing his Intergalactic Jensen Interceptor to chop up some 80s beats to give us 'Through With Love'

You might be family with Margot, the duo of Giaga Robot and Pepe behind Hell Yeah's new EP: their single 'Liuff Settanta' became something of an underground quirky hit, getting picked up by Sven Vath for his Sound of the 13th Season compilation, whilst James Holden is a keen fan, not only playing much of Margot's music, but so too are they a key part of the Border Community family. The pair are live specialists too, and have played all over Europe recently as well as turning in a brace of remixes for Daniel Snaith's might Daphni moniker. True to form, they continue to confound expectation on this latest 12", serving up three epically rich tracks that combine analogue workouts with dub techno rhythms and coming backed with a Prins Thomas remix. First track Fank1 bubbles and boils on a huge, almost edgeless kick drum as a grubby guitar riff curls its way through the middle of the track. From there an eco system of fried synths decorate the backdrop as the soft, pillow-y bed of dub continues to ebb and flow below. Alt is hooked around an uneasy pattern of chords. It's backed by tasteful, sporadic African chants and drums so lively they could only have been played live. It's a slow burner, but eventually consumes your being in a way that anyone from Âme to Ricardo Villalobos might champion. The remix comes from Norwegian disco heavyweight Prins Thomas. At ten minutes long it's the very definition of an epic journey. Jangling synth lines dance around the loose drums, distant swirls of cosmic air add a huge sense of scale and all the while you're just left listening in wonderment to the unfolding tale around you. There are so many layers to Margot's music, yet it never sounds cluttered or over complicated, it simply soothes and amazes in equal measure. On this evidence, Margot are heading on to big things in the not too distant future.

Hot on the heels of EDSC 003 comes the 4th release for the Manchester born & bred label/clubnight/meeting of minds and what an assault on the senses it truly is!
EDSC 004 comes from way across the Atlantic and is from Shadow Kids aka Mike Simonetti (Italians Do It Better) & synth wizard Secret Circuit…this release truly ticks all the boxes for those that love to go on an epic journey of the cosmic kind and what better way to accompany you on that trip than by having some remix action courtesy of Seahawks and Ruf Dug
Laughing At Jazz starts off proceedings with an infectious string arrangement that rides the wobbly baseline like a pro cosmic surfer before out of nowhere a Chicago tinged piano creeps into the mix to bring things back from space and onto the dance floor.
Ruf Dug turns in an excellent wobbly boogie tinged version with a re-recorded vocal by Ruffy himself that takes in disco elements whilst punchy piano chords keep it hooky.
Nightsun plays out like a theatrical play of different sections and is intriguing from the first beat (although it is over 2 mins before the 4/4 kicks in!) and continues to surprise throughout its 8 minute playing time…with psyched out melodies alongside snappy percussion and a “womp womp†bassline before entering a final stage that goes for an almost heads down vibe.
Seahawks do the seemingly impossible and crank up the psych meter to full throttle making Nightsun and even grander experience with a running time of just over 12 minutes! The listening equivalent of Lord Of The Rings, this is epic, beautiful & an absolutely stunning piece of work…

From the tropics comes Whiskey Disco, a sneaky re-edit label bent on dredging the decanter for diffident dancefloor genius
from latent disco perpetrators. It's loosely connected to Sleazy McQueen and his assorted cohorts.
Whiskey Disco #24 This limited edition, 10'' was inspired by the 1979 cult movie, The Warriors. With sound bites from the
original movie and splicing of themes, Sleazy McQueen has created an ode to this timeless electronic & trippy disco soundtrack.

After an overwhelming start with the illustrious artist Cuttlefish & Asparagus, who did an immense job both on Black Sun's homonym and Ish's 'Don't Stop", KALAKUTA SOUL Records come back with another deep set of disco gems, touched by the hand of one of the most respected heads of the genre. Glasgow's disco godfather, the almighty Al Kent, has delivered three eclectic masterpieces, due to take the international dancefloors to a further level of musical consciousness. A further pack of deep dug bombs that confront the functionality in music many labels have always strived for. The A Side keeps every imaginable sound system busy with a drifty percussive harvester adorned with an eclectic instrumentation that splits flesh from bones and mind from soul. 'Colder Than Cold' on the B Side is a perfect example of how a dancefloor should sound like. A thick bassdrum, a bass slapped by the fingers of a giant, keys and chords from heaven and horns hailing from the utmost depth of Kalakuta's soul. Bringing you back to where it all started, the almighty Al Kent does an immense work on an evergreen, you might have bumped into as a munchkin. 'Gee Wiz' closes this opus with a orchestral beauty that once gathered all the souls behind what we call music today. Limited to 500 copies!! Vital Sales Points: - Al Kent: Glasgow's Disco Godfather - Founder of the Million Dollar Orchestra - Releases on BBE, Million Dollar Disco - Edits of three rare disco gems.

There's something uncomfortable about finding things at places you don't expect. Loskober aren't afraid of unorthodox production techniques and sound crafting. A strong dose of uber saturated sounds is smartly blended into a mix of squelchy 303 sounds and randomly placed crashed. Being just as straight forward as the Soul Notes imprint is considering itself, Loskober is balancing on the thin line between insanity and geniality. A place where producers are not likely to go for their first output. The B side called ''Bounce that Ass'' again shows some unconventional saturated drums together with a repetitive disco sample that together create a filtered down analog machine jam hinting to an outrageous period in dancefloor music whilst keeping its own identity. Loskober doesnt care about rules and expectations, just about keeping the funk alive.

33-10-3402 is a code name for Nenad Markovic, an imaginative and limitless musician and producer from Belgrade, Serbia. This release is the second in a trilogy of opium den and whore- house inspired singles entitled Mecanica. III33 is features a disorienting vocal, that repeats as if caught in a psychedelic cycle your mind cannot break, accompanied by stuttering percussive elements and metallic textures. Cool Down is a post-apocalyptic drum circle that keeps your groove alert as it moves between accent placement and eventually builds into a full force bad acid trip. Be careful with this record.

After releases on Lux Rec, MinimalRome, Giallo Disco and Sangoplasmo plus a string of live shows in Madrid, Paris, Rome and Switzerland, Alessandro Parisi has collaborated with Adamennon to present 'Il Plenilunio Del Fuoco'. Four tracks of mesmerising, cinemascopic, medieval-tinged music. Each track is a journey into the glorious past where warriors fought side by side with an unflinching loyalty.
'We were lured by the call of the Naught. We bring royal blood to purify the land with the consecration of ancient sages. In the name of the sacred all-glorious crusade, moved by psychokinetic power, we brutally kill as the heavenly dew falls on the battlefield.
We are the fire's moonlight warriors and this is our holy war'

Following on from the phenomenal success of the recent 'Remixed With Love' compilation plus more Joey Negro compiled albums including 'GoGo Get Down', 'Backstreet Brit Funk', 'Destination Boogie' and the ever-popular Soul of Disco series Z Records continues to release high quality compilations filled with lesser known disco, funk and boogie. Now it's the turn of 'Italo House' to get the JN selection treatment with over 20 tracks hand picked from the late 80's and early 90's covering a lot of the deeper classics and some lesser known releases from a golden era of Italian dance music. The late 80s were undoubtedly a golden era for dance music. A time which saw the birth of many genres and sub genres - from acid house to hardcore to Balearic - and of course Italo house. If you ask Jo Raver to name an Italo house track, they'd probably come back with Blackbox, Jinny, Fiddlefatti or one of many big piano tune. At the same time there was another equally distinctive sound coming out of Italy- a warmer, deeper, more emotional style which didn't yield any commercial hits. The sound was more jazzy and soulful with syncopated percussion, dreamy pads and, though piano was often used, it wasn't in the obviously programmed, big breakdown style which became a cliché of the Italo house genre. This more underground side of Italo was closer to the original American house sound- but still retained a very European flavour. In common with other Z compilations which have featured Britfunk and GoGo, this album was an important release for me. Important because I love a lot of the records, many of which have been largely forgotten about, but also because there
really was a unique sound coming out of Italy, spread across many labels and involving numerous producers. As a result, it has never really been fully showcased like this before. I'm glad this album exists for other people to discover or re-discover the deeper side of Italo house. Joey Negro - Feb 2014

Producer Mark E hails from the West Midlands, an area of the UK that was at the heart of the industrial revolution and was also hit hardest by the decline of UK industry in the 1970s, and again by the economic crisis of our own time. It's an area with a distinct sound and atmosphere, one that manifests in the music of artists as diverse as Black Sabbath and The Specials, and one that plays into many of the ideas behind Mark E's new record Product of Industry.
The album's title is a subtle nod to the producer's past and heritage. He explains, "The name lies in the manufacturing past of the area I grew up, (and) the manufacturing past of my family. (It references) how the decline of industry in the Midlands UK changed the landscape physically and socially — I'm now a music producer and DJ, and this is totally different to my grandparents who were truck drivers and sheet metal workers. (The title discusses) how things have changed, and it's also about how I came to be in this position, due to the current global financial situation. I lost my job due to it, (which led to me) trying out music — and here I am, a product of industry, both currently and
historically."

Mr Flash's debut album is titled Sonic Crusader (in reference to an article in Dazed & Confused on the start of Ed Banger), which perfectly illustrates his musical philosophy. 15 tracks - among which the classics 'Domino' and 'Motorcycle Boy' - resulting in a genuine sonic odyssey condensing all of Mr Flash's obsessions: his passion for phat and melodic hip hop, his taste for cinematic and illustrative sequences, his influences of polished 70's and 80's productions like Prince, AC/DC, Herbie Hancock or Sun Ra, and electro notions nourished by new-wave and industrial music. The whole thing is enveloped in a cloak of musical grandiosity. A sonic crusade shaped like a rollercoaster of influences that Mr Flash orchestrates with subtlety, taking us in one fell swoop from the sweaty dumps of a club to the melancholy of California highways, sneaking us into the jungle and having us wake-up dressed as a modern crooner, before throwing us head first into the twinkling stars. In the end, it's the perfect soundtrack to a film that's never been shot.

Having made their Disco Capablancas debut back in 2012 with the excellent 12" Shoal, sprawling Minneapolis collective Food Pyramid return to Hugo Capablancas' label for an equally fine second release in the shape of Knosssos. Whilst this standard edition may not have quite the same level of collectability as the edition of 50 that feature hand painted artwork from Disco Capablancas compadre Andreas Golder, you can't fault the music. Food Pyramid are on top form with "Knossos" as layer upon layer of hypnotic synthesis spill out of the grooves and it's easy to see why label and artist plumped for Gavin Russom for remix duties. The DFA's White Wizard turns in a trademark remix that turns an already psychedelically potent track into a motorik techno beast of spell binding proportions.

The Fantasy presentsThe Fantasy Vol. 2
A 33 RPM
1 TURNED AROUND 6:03"I Can't Turn Around", Isaac Hayes, USA,1975
The song that started it all, way back in 1975. One of the many, but a main antecedent to the genre known as house. And here you can see: it is totally hypnotic and from another world, psychadelic soul has found its future groove. The story of Isaac is the tragic story of a genius who was so great that he had every song he made and all future royalties stolen from him in 1977.
2 NOM NOM NOM 6:06 "Yum Yum (Gimmie Some)", Fatback Band, USA, 1975
This version is like Hamilton Bohannon meets Entertainment era Gang of Four. The original is 103 BPM funk jam, transformed here into a fantasy disco version of a lost gem.
B 33 RPM
3 SERVANT OF THE SPIRITS 7:16 "Dr. Doo-Wah", Kongas, France, 1977
Voodoo from Kongas, members from Kikrokos and Cerrone. Has an extended freaky kalimba jam that transforms into a strange disco jam about a special kind of doctor, one that saves you when you die.
4 ROLLING THUNDER 6:28 "Hum Along and Dance", The Jackson 5ive, USA, 1973
Norman Whitfield and Barret strong compose a sort of cross between Gene Krupa's rolling "Sing Sing Sing" drums from the dawn of the Big Band era and meld it with psychadelic soul ala Sly and th Family Stone. This song features the most unlikely Michael Jackson vocals ever over these endlessly hypnotic drums performed by Hal Blaine of the Wrecking Crew. A classic B-Boy break also functions as a Gallery era crazy drum jam re-purposed for those truly adventurous people beyond calling themselves househeads.
