Ynk - The Joint (incl. Lauer Remix)

With YNK's 10" single Polytone adds another musical facet to the label's eclectic approach. Having shown his musical open-mindedness with releases on Tenderpark and Maria Colors, YNK further underlines his reputation as a highly versatile electronic producer with "The Joint": Over a tricky midtempo Funk beat YNK assembles various 70s Soul samples, thus creating a warm athmosphere which is modern and aware of tradition at the same time. On the flip side Lauer takes the original and turns it into a straight and sunny House track full of classic vibes with feelings of euphoria and memories from back in the day rushing through our bodies.

Magnetic Soul - What You Gonna Do

Dab Hands first vinyl release brings together a range of housed up summer grooves to fit most sections of a discerning disco selection.

From the slower building deep disco delight of 'What You Gonna Do' to the percussive rare grooves of 'Mood 2 Groove' and heavier work out of 'Concrete Boogie'.

A fine start for Dab Hands on vinyl.

Norm De Plume - Ohio Replayed / Stretchin Gretchen

It's been a long time coming but Norm De Plume (Delusions Of Grandeur) finally follows up his initial 2011 Plumage release with two more contrasting deep disco re-works.
'Ohio Replayed" a deep, sparse groover with a chugging, swinging drum pattern.

The signature NDP slow-building intro in full effect; the filters slowly opening to reveal more choice sampledelica and building to a cresendo. Then we switch into super deep mode with some heavily effected organ chords buzzing and pulsating before the track builds again but only to die, slowly back to the swinging drum groove that started everything off in the 1st place.

Flip over for "Stretchin' Gretchen" a repetitive, looped up Brazilian Disco work-out! An ultra-repetitive groove with vocal chanting throughout - cut and looped a'la Ron Hardy (Norm's hero and inspiration) and switched up with some funky breaks and fills, the clever working of filters and a nice little bridge section. Add some heavy-duty shuffling samba-house drum programming and you've got yourself the samba-house equivalent of Frankenstein's monster!

The J's / Sandy Barber - When Did You Stop...

Part one of BBE's Record Store Day celebration is a 12' featuring two previously unreleased disco gems remixed by master Al Kent.

To celebrate Record Store Day 2014 BBE present to you two previously unreleased gems from the vaults, remixed by Glasgow's answer to Walter Gibbons, Al Kent.

"When Did You Stop" by The J's was criminally overlooked on its initial release in 1977 except on certain dance-floors in the north of England. Al Kent included the 12 inch version on his Disco Love Volume 2 for BBE, and while we did the licensing deal we discovered the original tapes were still safe and sound. So Al excitedly set to work creating a more disco friendly version of the song, taking influence from his hero Walter Gibbons, which quickly became a highlight of his DJ sets. We thought it was finally time to share this one with the rest of the world.

Similarly, Sandy Barber's "I Think I'll Do Some Stepping On My Own" was a big northern hit, but didn't receive much commercial success. And, like the J's, the inclusion on Disco Love 2 revealed a lock up containing the original tapes. Al's instrumental "Disco Jam" version appeared on our deluxe edition re-release of Sandy Barber's album alongside some John Morales mixes, but this "Classic Version" has remained unreleased until now. It doesn't seem possible that the original version could be bettered, but in Al's capable hands it's been transformed into a stunning seven minutes of soulful beauty.

LPH's unpredictable sister label, LPH WHITE, is back with another juicy 12', one that marks the imprint's first foray into Japanese clubland. Atsushi Yano, a Kobebased producer, serves up three—as the title indicates—chewy tunes, all doused with African rhythms and set ablaze with fidgety keys, choppedup vocals, and groovy bass lines. Filling the release out is Jacques Renault's nononsense, squaredup, leadfooted remix of 'Stomping On the Verge.'

No.19 Music
11.09.2012

The ever-excellent No.19 Music team up with the enigmatic and highly talented Ali Love for a new single featuring production and remix duties from Brigante....
No.19 Music continues to go from strength to strength, with recent releases from Konrad Black & Art Department, Tone of Arc and Cameo Culture catching the imagination whilst the label's Social Experiment parties take the world by storm. Now Jonny White and his label team look to a newcomer to the imprint, the highly respected vocalist and songwriter Ali Love. Love has been a key player in electronic music for some time now, working alongside acid house legend Eon in the band Ignition before signing to Columbia as a solo artist and more recently hooking up with London's Back Yard Recordings. For this single Ali teams up with producer Brigante to deliver two superb new cuts, Brigante also offering up his own remix on the second track. The record opens with 'Playa', a deep and hypnotic, bass driven affair that fuses percussive elements and understated melodies to create the base for Ali Love's distinctively ethereal and soulful vocals, quality stuff from beginning to end. The A side is complemented by the superb 'Brigante's Jungle' a warm and haunting slice of underground house music that once again showcases Ali's vocals, as his incantations about the Jungle sit against staccato vocal effects and old school Chicago inspired stabs.Exclusively available on the vinyl release we have Seb Brigante's remix of 'Brigante's Jungle' that sees the record taken into deep and twisted territory with the vocal heavily effected and the drums brought to the fore, a perfect version to close this stunning single.
With each new signing, No19 Music seem to further open up the label's direction whilst maintaining the highest levels of quality and with this single from Ali Love they have done it again, enjoy!

Todd Terje - It's Album Time

Todd Terje

It's Album Time

CDOLS006CD
Olsen
03.04.2014

Max Graef at his best.

This young producer just keeps on delivering the goods, over the course of a handful of amazing releases he has managed to carve out a sizeable niche with his trademark euphoric jams.
These new, expertly cut & pasted workouts, which recall classic Kenny Dope, but take the whole roughed up sample-house ethos to altogether more exciting places certainly don't disappoint

Fierce, energetic and utterly irresistible

On the flip, Glenn Astro did the favour and remixed "Bummse" into a big room destroyer.

Two young producers and DJs who are among the most restless and curious connectors of body and soul.

Max Graef has made the A-side especially for the Brandt Brauer Frick DJ-Kicks.

Noodleman - They Call Him Chesterfield

This split 12" is the debut on GLENVIEW EDITS done by NOODLEMAN and his LONG WEEKEND RECORDS partner FAKE GLASSES. NOODLEMAN does two edits: "THEY CALL HIM ARCHIE" & "THEY CALL HIM ZACK" b/w FAKE GLASSES' edit of PETER GABRIEL:"THEY CALL HIM SLEDGEHAMMER" and then both producers team up as PARADISE VALLEY doing "THEY CALL HIM ROD" (tweaking ROD STEWART's "PASSION"). After really strong releases on KOLOUR, SLEAZY BEATS, ENDLESS FLIGHT and SEVEN MUSIC for the past two years, on this EP NOODLEMAN stands at his finest: great sample usage and sound layering work, neat dancefloor flair which frankly makes THE CALL HIM CHESTERFIELD” really a stand-out in this genre.

Various - Future Disco Vol. 7 Ü Etil The Lights Come Up

Too early to go home, too late to stay still... The award winning Future Disco series sets the tone for 2014 with their seventh instalment 'Til The Lights Go Up'. After a successful third residency in conjuction with Carl Cox at Space in Ibiza, Future Disco's Sean Brosnan delivers a seventeen track compebdium that pays tribute to those that keep pace until the end of the night.

As ever, Future Disco provides foresight into the artists that are stirring things up and tracks set to dominate dancefloors, while creating an enchanted aural expedition that yearns to be revisted time and again. 'Til The Lights Go Up' Reintroduces old heroes (The collaborative forces of Cajmere & Sonny Wharton set an early pace), explores new musical forces (check Psychemajik, Lucas & Ejeca), and is unafraid to make obscure choices (try DJ Koze's Rremix of Mount Kimbie). Overloaded with exclusive edits, Future Disco exposes music that demands to be taken seriously. Future Disco has previously gained awards such as itunes Electronic album of the year & continually breaks new artists that go on to dominate the globaldance music scene including the No 1 record from Storm Queen (Featured four years ago) as well as classics from Tensnake, Miguel Campbell, Maxxi Soundsystem, The Revenge & Crazy P. Each episode of Future Disco masters a fresh perspective on House & Disco, with the seventh episode focusing on the magic & mystery of the early hours. Through an astute choice of unreleased cuts and classic tracks, it spotlights diverse artists from near and far, that are familiar (Crazy P, Axel Boman and the delicate closing moments from Tale Of Us & Clockwork) but equally unknown (James Fo & Templehof). Future Disco 7 takes another voyage through our collective musical senses and comes out bleary eyed.

I-Boat Captain returns to IIB with a real gem of a tune. Major Spam is a chugging nu kraut dub disco bomb. Driving drums and relentless bassline wrapped up in swirling synths and delayed vocals. Brain Machine - The Lost Machine (12")

EMOTIONAL RESPONSE UNEARTH A SELECTION OF LOST REMIXES TAKEN FROM THE BRAIN MACHINE SELF-TITLED ALBUM, WITH INTERPRETATIONS BY STEVE MOORE, MAJEURE, SPECTRAL EMPIRE AND UNIT 4. When released on the THISISNOTANEXIT label in 2008 to little fanfair, the Brain Machine by Brain Machine was 2 unknown producers delivering a unique take on the electronic, experimental climbs of the Krautrock sound. Now known to be Rome based Guido Zen and London's Jon Tye - aka one half of the Seahawks - the album soon spread through word of mouth and was backed with live dates from Scotland to Scandinavia. Handing the album to a selection of producers they admired resulted in remixes from Dusseldorf's Unit 4 and Musiccargo, London's Spectral Empire - aka George Thompson (Black Merlin) and Kyle Martin (Land of Light) - and from the USA, Jonas Reinhardt and both Steve Moore and A.E Paterra of space rock pioneers, Zombi. With the demise of TINAE in 2010, the remixes never saw the light of day. The Lost Machine EP collects 4 of those remixes on to one 12", while the rest will be available as digital only. A collection of percussive interpretations take the album's electronic kraut expanses towards a darker club sound that wouldn't go amiss on the more experimental offerings from LIES or Creme Organisation. All-in-all a welcome archival excavation from Emotional Response.

Maricopa - The Possibility Of An Island

Maricopa is an enigma.

His tender years belie an encyclopedic obsession for soulful music.
His hugely expressive creations seem incompatible with his quiet natured and considered personality.
And having had the pleasure of his company, his naivety at the behest of two turntables and a mixer belie a prodigious production talent like few of his contemporaries.

With previous EP excursions on Tusk Wax and Back To The Balearics, Maricopa's soundscapes are quickly becoming the stuff of Balearic legend and charged with composing this inaugural release on new imprint Fools & Fables (rumored to have ties with the Sleazy Beats camp) there is no doubt he has reached new heights.

Two tracks of a rare and particular beauty, strangely clocking in at exactly the same duration, SOUL LITE on the A side is trademark sundown Maricopa.
Warm keys and harmonious melody weave with atmospheric percussion and soft complementary drums that all coalesce to whisk your mind off to a place where you feel the sun on your face and the sand between your toes. The flip offers THIS WAY FOREVER, an excursion into 110bpm mid-tempo Balearic, if such a thing exists.
A bit punchier than his usual fare, but still unmistakably Maricopa - soulful, full of character and detail, driven by a sun-soaked groove and key change licks throughout.
This is as close to house as you'll find Maricopa dare.

Mastered to sonic perfection by Ebony Cuts, this is a special release. 10', black sleeves and inlays, storyboard artwork and each record individually shrink-wrapped, FF01 sets a new standard in cherishing extraordinary music.

Brenda Beachball Ray - Ramshackle Rumble

Somewhere along the line the true spirit of the Ku was lost in a sea of Buddha Bar pish and the anaemic meanderings of anyone with a nine bar and a Spanish guitar.
Thankfully, Nado uncork their bottle of vintage San Rafael dust and sprinkle it liberally over their seventh release to put the sun and fun back into the Balearic discotheque.
And who better to call upon for authentic 80s oddities than the irrepressible Brenda Ray, who's plunged into the Naffi HQ archive and plucked out four vivacious (& previously unreleased) gems, wholly deserving the full light of day.

Kicking things off is the frenetic groove of "Love To Dance", which sees Ray make expert use of a sampler to collage clattering percussion, rocking guitars and dusty horns on top of a dubby 12 bar blues riff.
Throw into the mix, chiming synths, reggae vamps and Ray's whispered vocals and you've got the twisted sister to Art of Noise's 'Peter Gunn'.

Cascades of shakers, triangles and chimes mark a change of pace for A2's "Coolin' In The Rye", gradually resolving into a swaying rhythm which mirrors lapping waves and setting the scene perfectly for the horizontal bliss that follows.
Ray's gentle bassline, buoyant melodica and exotic flute hint at an island life of sea air and sunshine, while the whole track shimmers like heat haze.

On "Theme From Another Space", Ray develops the tropical flavours of "Coolin' In The Rye", cooking up a dubwise drum machine riddim, stirring up a falling bassline and fleshing the track out with cooing vocals and expansive pads.
Jarvis Whitehead (It's Immaterial) adds some other worldly guitars while Big Jo Ross drops by for a smouldering sax solo that bathes the track in gold.

Closing things out in energetic fashion is the upbeat, off the wall dancefloor dynamite of "Transatlantic Dance Trance".
A post punk stomper that's ditched the Ritalin and embraced its ADHD diagnosis.
Rattling percussion loops wrap themselves around the heavy duty 4/4 while Ray's eerie vocals swirl around your head somewhere above the murk of echoed guitar and detuned synths. The track is a restless and frenzied assault on the senses that'll become crystal clear in the midnight sweat of a dingy basement.

Dj Rocca & Chris Massey - Drug Chug / Shone

Starting off 2014 with an Italian/Manchester collaboration…the 3rd release on El Diablos Social Club sees DJ Rocca (Ajello, Erodiscotheque, Crimea X) & Chris Massey (Electric Elephant, Paper Recordings) join forces to bring us a selection of spaced out, chuggy goodness with just a bit of a nod to certain Croatian festivals.
Drug Chug kicks things off with a plodding 4/4 infused with cosmicesque swooshes & whooshes along with a bassline to rattle the Funktion One’s. Whilst synths reminiscent of the Time & Space Machine add that much needed touch of psych to proceedings.

Shone takes the party to late night in the club where spiky 909 percussion meets chunky analog basslines before dropping in with distorted & reverb drenched piano chords that guarantee to leave a lasting impression on both the head & heart!

Remix duties come in heavy on this release with Craig Bratley dusting Drug Chug with his own style of studio fairy dust to knock it up a notch that will surely please those who have followed his sounds on Andrew Weatherall’s Bird Scarer imprint, Robsoul, Foto, Is It Balearic, Instruments Of Rapture and his own Magic Feet label.
Lastly EDSC's very own head honcho Neil Diablo tackles Shone and lays off the epic-ness and brings a straight up basement chugger…

This release has grit & oomph balanced with a good helping of sunshine infused warmth that will ensure its place in the boxes of both house heads & Balearic boy's all over!
