House Vinyl New Releases - News

The kid called KAPOTE is our new favorite man on the Toy Tonics camp.. :) Coming up with his first own EP. Including a dancefloorfunk-remix by his Berlin mates from SESSION VICTIM. Kapote is doing house music, but influenced by rare Funk and Soul music. Or better said: by the mid 1990ies wave of filter house and the French touch. He likes the black American scene around Paul Johnson or the tracks on Detroit's Red Planet label (The Martian!!). But also French people like La Funk Mob, G-ilbert, early Super Discount stuff.. The days when it was all about finding the ultra rare, but ultra effective samples and using it in a clever and very musical way. Creating a new groove, something that flows with a big bunch of Soul. Kapote does this... and he has the old vinyls and he has the right machines to make them swing in a new way. Check out Kapote.

Roisin Murphy delivers a solo sonic bomb for Crosstown Rebels.
‘Jealousy’ is recorded especially for Crosstown Rebels and additional to Roisin's forthcoming album. This is an unashamed slice of dance-floor hedonism from the acclaimed singer, featuring Roisin’s compelling vocals in both a house and disco workout.
Co-written and produced by the great-unsung modern day house hero, The Crooked Man AKA DJ Parrot, formally of Sweet Exorcist (Warp) and All Seeing I amongst many other aliases, he has been a bastion of the Sheffield sound since the late '80's. The single is also mixed by the legendary Eric Kupper, who was a production partner with Frankie Knuckles and Dave Morales and whose K-Scope releases were a staple of 90's American NY House.
"Parrot understands dancing music and he understands me. This is fast and furious; he says it's roller-disco music. The backing track sounded so frantic, the lyric wasn't long coming to me, all I had to do was try to create a vocal as demented as the music!" Roisin Murphy
Murphy has become one of the most competent, enduring and influential figures in the pop, disco and electronic music worlds. The Irish singer-songwriter originally broke into the charts as the front woman for Moloko, delivering music that was leftfield electronic and pop-orientated. Her consequent output, two stunning solo albums, and the beautiful EP with The Vinyl Factory alongside guest vocal presence on labels like Hot Creations and Permanent Vacation have ensured Roisin’s enduring legacy and constant evolution as an artist.

Reissue number three for Heels & Souls Recordings combines the Balearic bliss of Paprika Soul’s, ‘Come With Me’, with Soft Sugar’s dream house gem ‘Métro’ and an unreleased version of the tripped-out groover ‘Swampin'. A cherry picking of the best of three rare and sought after ‘90s EPs from the minds of High Wycombe’s Alan Barnes, Andrew Spiller and Andrew Hughes.
As anthemic as they get, Paprika Soul's 'Come With Me (Sea Breeze)' is an otherworldly electronic interpretation of Tania Maria’s beloved Brazilian jazz funk classic from '83. Vocalist Sarah Newell's unique delivery combines with a euphoric blend of Barnes’ and Spiller’s crisp drum machine programming and cosmic synthwork. Complete with crashing waves and Balearic birds, it’s a timeless, endorphin-tingling track that feels even more relevant than ever. The A-side also features the brilliant street soul flavoured ‘The Chill’ mix and the ‘Bossa Mix’, the most true in form to the original.
On the flip you’ll find Soft Sugar’s dream house flavoured ‘Métro (Funk Mix)’, Barnes and Andrew Hughes’ homage to time spent cruising the Parisian train system. Barnes’ favourite of their joint-productions, it blends that riviera feel of classic M1 stabs and sweeping pads with a dreamy bassline and stuttering breaks. Flying under the radar at the time, it’s since become hot property for the eagle-eyed digger out there.
Closing out the B, an unreleased, alternate version of Soft Sugar’s slung-back ‘Swampin’ from their Basement Records House Department EP. Mesmerizingly smooth, the 110bpm house-groover busts the brain with wigged out chants and intoxicating arpeggiations.
Fully licensed from Alan Barnes and remastered by Cicely Balston, 20% of profits from Heels & Souls Recordings and Prime Direct Distribution will be donated to Zaatari Radio – a humanitarian collective working with war-affected communities around the world.

The walls where of bare red brick and hung with pop art paintings, the button-back banquettes in olive green velour.
It's like sitting on a sofa in a front room circa 1983.

Brooklyn-based musician, producer, and DJ Peter Matson returns to Bastard Jazz with a dance-floor ready 12" and digital EP, "The Right Way." The EP builds on Peter's 2019 release for the label - "Short Trips" - as well as his work as the bandleader for Underground System, and a slew of other solo and collaborative projects over the last two years.
Working from the ground up to produce a batch of 3 original tracks, Matson takes his sensibility as a DJ and musician and blends them into an unique whole, crafting sprawling arrangements into club-ready productions. With overall recording quality and ear for detail taking center stage, "The Right Way" boasts an impressive list of musical collaborators including a standout A-side feature from Ibibio Sound Machine's vocalist Eno Williams on the Afro-Disco workout "Call and Answer." Two beautifully conceived instrumentals on the flip-side dip into slow burning Italo ("The Right Way") and Balearic ("PB (Ça Va)") territories, while the UK duo Faze Action helm remix duty, pushing "Call and Answer" toward their signature Afro-meets-ProtoHouse & Disco vibe.
The EP weaves Matson's affinity for club music with the African influences for which he is known, culminating in a release that is both genre-bending and timelessly danceable. "The Right Way" is out digitally on Bastard Jazz Recordings February 25th, 2022, with the 12" to follow shortly after.

"Emotional Rescue returns for a third series of Konduko lost classics. After shining a light via the King Sporty and Noel Williams reissues, now looking at artists who released with the label, working closely with Williams to bring his unique sound to their performance. First is Phillip James and Lloyd Campbell, a.k.a. The Blues Busters. One of the most successful vocal duos to come out of 1960's Jamaica. Progressing from cabaret shows to touring with Sam Cooke in the space of a year, they went on to record singles with the likes of Bluebeat, Treasure Isle and Trojan.
Moving onto New York, their Cooke inspired soul harmonies proved popular on albums for Dynamic Sounds and Scepter, before making the flight to Miami and letting the funk-machine that was Noel Williams loose. The resultant album, You've Got To Keep On Moving, offers the two highly prized songs Do What You Want To Do To It and Keep On Moving.
These driving disco funk bombs, backed by the in-house Deep Root Rockers band and Betty James on vocals, appear for the first time on 12 inch. If not enough, as always, the B-side is given to a favoured producer - the welcomed back Dan Tyler (Idjut Boys / Noid) and his NAD moniker. He turns Keep On Moving in to an unrelenting long-form disco-dub that could just be an anthem for a new summer of love.

New artists on Toy Tonics! gome are an organic disco duo from Hamburg. Two guys that make good mood disco inspired by the 1980 Italo and Munich Disco vibe and share an addiction to gourmet food. Positive vibes, rolling grooves, catchy melodic bits and vocals and a lot of musicality.
The guys come from Hamburg where they keep strong connections to the other Hamburg disco artists (Erobique, Session Victim..) as well as to Germany’s leading skate crews Cleptomanicx and Lobby.
For one track of the EP they invited one of Germanys most interesting underground rap artists to do a german hip house tune: Tightill. Funkiest guy from Germany on a mic.
gome add a raw energy to the currently growing house vibe. A live energy that real house music enthusiasts might have missed far too long. With an all-hardware / no-computer setup, their sound would best be described as honest and rough Live-House and Disco-Funk. Infused with elements of soul, boogie and synth-wave. Deliberately moving away from clean computerized music, the two musicians regularly pull out their instruments and play live in front of a club audience. Soon hopefully on Toy Tonics Jams worldwide.

HUGE 45!! after last months Memphis 7" (the same band) we have here 2 unreleased Homegrown Syndrome trakcs rescued from an acetate in Jerry Jones attic . Double sided Disco funk burners all the way.
Home Grown Funk was also known as "Homegrown Syndrome," a controversial name bestowed to them. Before heading to LA they gigged all over Memphis. Some of the members were from an earlier 70s group called "Brothers Unlimited" and had earlier ties during the 60s with the "Memphis Invaders" (a peaceful civil rights activist group).
With aspirations of pushing Homegrown further, a few members including Jerry Jones made the move out west. It was LA 1977 when they were introduced to Ike Tuner through a mutual friend "Ricky G". It was a casual meetup. Then one night Ike had his son Ike Jr. go check them out while performing at the Soul Train hangout spot "Maverick Flats". Ike Jr. praised their performance to Ike and he had them come out to his Inglewood studio. The group walked into the studio with a funky track already playing and that's when Jerry Jones improvised this opportunity and started singing. Ike then turned and said… "Who is that singing?" Jerry said, "Thats me." Then Ike replied " YOU BIG MUTHAF***A! You could be my new Tina." From that point the group cut bunch of tracks with Ike over the years up until they're feature on his 1980 album "The Edge."
In 1981 Perry Kibble (Keyboardist for Taste Of Honey) was at "Concerts In The Park" and heard Home Grown Funk performing. He linked up with the group and got them a deal with Arista. During this time they recorded their hit track " Confrontation." Perry suggested that the group change their name because he didn't want another group with the work "Funk" in it and hence "Homegrown Syndrome." They also use the Arista studio to cut an unreleased acetate with tracks "Got the love" and "Party Vibes" which we have here

Hailing from Liege in Belgium, David Body has been put on our radar with releases on the fine Endless Music — but this EP for Exploited’s Black Jukebox series looks set to propel him to a new level.
‘I Bird You’ is a seriously charming affair, led by a colourful, sugary-sweet refrain that twinkles and sparkles in cute fashion. A warm deep house groove crafted through swirling Rhodes chords builds the vibe before the flowery melody explodes into life, pushing the track into an altogether more magical direction.
‘Jack Me Baby’ channels rubbery bass and a galloping house beat, with minor piano chords creating a dramatic feel as a classic vocal sample whoops away in delight. The enormous snare-rolled propelled build-up thrusts the track into overdrive, with a delightful, balmy synth line woven in to provide a mystical counterbalance.
‘The Talking Mouettes’ is a supremely feel-good slab of Balearic-tinged house, with choice piano chords cut up and cascading over a high-energy groove. Big squelchy melodic bass wiggles under the chords and shoulder-popping chime riff, with plenty of power and punch scattered throughout to keep the vibes rolling.
‘Endless Love’ is an absolute monster to close the EP, a soaring, triumphant electro beauty that overflows with euphoric melody and ecstatic, eyes-closed-and-rolling tingles. It just keeps building and building through layer upon layer of synth mastery to an explosive, epic climax.

Around a year ago, Jerome Derradji received a message from a well known record dealer out of North Carolina. He found a couple of test presses at a storage auction near Durham. In fact the two tests Daniel found were for a Lee Moore release scheduled for release on NYC’s LM Records in 1981.
The 12” featured a vocal and instrumental version of the same song - Bodywork - a mean boogie down joint featuring Lee Moore’s trademark heavy bass, gritty soulful vocals and mad synths …
So here it is pressed for the first time, a lost 12” from the mighty king of Memphis Boogie Funk: Lee Moore!

Lead by 17 year old Carlton “Dirk” Poward, San Francisco’s Monsta was one of many ephemeral late seventies funk and disco bands that haunt the dreams of record diggers worldwide. Produced by the late Bill Withers, Give Me Something Good Is an epic disco funk monster that has never been reissued to this day! This Past Due Records reissue comes with a full sleeve and the story of Carlton “Dirk” Poward, Monsta and how the mighty Bill Withers got involved in the production of this magnificent slice of boogie. Moar's skilful hands and exceptionally well-trained ears combine beautifully on all of his edits, and this is no exception. Full of space and room to breathe, the A-side's 'i' is a deep house/disco number and is a sparkling gem of a track. I can't tell you what the sources are, but the xylophone layered and looped over the dubby beats is a sweet spot you'll want to taste over and over. It could be a warm-up track, mixed into a peak time set, and is most definitely one for the late-night set.
Over on the flip this huge classic funky song has been beautifully re-rubbed by Moar, this fattens and tightens an already phat and tight classic groove with some electro flourishes. A very respectful mix perfect for the dancefloor!
Hand stamped records & limited press.

After the success of 'Discollection' vinyl EP, reaching #1 in the Bestseller Disco Charts in 2019, San Diego producer Never Dull is back with the follow up 'Discollection II.' This collection of disco edits really shine through the 'West Coast Disco' sound that Never Dull has been building throughout his latest releases. 'Cool Love' is the lead track, with a disco bassline and expressive vocals. 'Get a Little' is a 'wonky' party track with a driving beat and soulful chords. 'Want My Love' has an excellent soulful disco intro that breaks into a driving baseline and vocal harmonies. While 'Whatever U Want' captures that perfect balance between the obscure and the party vibe, featuring a thumping beat and expressive shouting vocals.

Since 2017’s ‘Song For Mr Lewis EP’ on Phonica White, Austin Ato has dropped stunningly funky 12”s with ease on many respected house labels including Classic Records and Defected. We were waiting for the right track for his follow-up on Phonica White and when we heard ‘When Love Is Tender’, we knew it was the one - a huge disco house based on an obscure Philadelphia-style jam.
It’s the simplicity of the original mix that sets the tone with pumping and driving Disco drums backed to roof raising saxophone licks and soulful vocal snippets, with those all-important deeply moving Philly string samples that are restrained when necessary and released at all the right moments, especially when the drum drops. ‘All Night Long’ highlights Austin Ato’s sample chopping expertise. The drums roll effortlessly through the track as dusty Soul and Disco samples echo and repeat, conjuring sonic memories of Andrés and Pépé Bradock’s best work.

Imagine driving with the top down next to that new lover you can't quite understand just yet. The salty air, sun-kissed skin - and dare I say - some seaweed in their hair. Now imagine six songs playing on repeat, which sound weirdly familiar but also damn fresh at the same time.
Chances are you're listening to Kraak & Smaak's new EP - Scirocco - whilst driving along in all white, all linen through the French Riviera.
The package has an undeniable ambiance méditerranéenne to it; take for instance the EP opener The Cypress Garden, which feels as if you're entering a small Sicilian village with just a tad too many Celsius tapping the meters.
In turn, French Shuffle sounds as if AIR and Danger Mouse came together and drank Albariño until the early hours, whilst Cul de Sac keeps reminding me of that gorgeous person on the train I'll probably never see again.
Moreover, focus track and EP name giver Scirocco, with Fred Nevché, is a true testament to Kraak's ability of tastefully incorporating influences from any chosen direction. In this spoken word track we can hear the Marseillais poet reciting a highly descriptive and tangible story; inspired by Death In Venice, Nevché guides us through the art of seduction and connection.
The boys have done it again; they've made a classic genre sound vibrant and have crafted a rich and emotionally pleasing record. Across all the tracks we feel as if we're immersed in a different place and time and in doing so Kraak & Smaak might have just have made one of their most visually rich pieces of sound to date.
'Kraak & Smaak – Scirocco' will be digitally available from 10-09-21 onwards via Boogie Angst. The vinyl version, which includes a bonus track, will be released asap afterwards.

Following the release of the single of the same name, Dutch duo Tunnelvisions return to Disco Halal with new EP ‘Gold Teeth’, out on Friday 27th November.
A three-track release, ‘Gold Teeth’ opens with an extended version of the title track, an infectiously feelgood house number, characterised by driving synths, busy percussion and catchy vocals. Next up, ‘Hyperfocus’ is a slow-burning progressive house cut that unfurls steadily across its six minutes. Closing things out, ‘Heat Wave’ harnesses an old school house vibe, characterised by deep bass and fluttering percussive elements.
Speaking about the EP, Tunnelvisions says: “We’re proud to present you our next EP called ‘Gold Teeth’. Three tracks combining our percussional and synthpop influences into something we’re very excited about.”
With an unmistakable ear for imaginative, melodic themes and entrancing rhythms, Tunnelvisions hit the sweet spot by seamlessly fusing worldly influences with analog synthesisers.
A diverse collection of tracks, ‘Gold Teeth’ sees Tunnelvisions skilfully explore various shades and tones on the house music spectrum.

Don't be fooled by Spellacey's lower profle: amongst those who know, the Melbourne-based New Zealander is widely regarded as a seriously dusty fngered digger, capable of unearthing and championing ridiculously good records from all four corners of the globe. He sells some of these exceptional fnds through his Crown Ruler online store, though there are many more that he keeps hidden from the public. From synth-laden Zambian reggae and sumptuous orchestral Afro-soul, to humid Trinidadian boogie and horizontal Italian jazz-funk, Spellacey offers a whirlwind trip through the most kaleidoscopic and exotic parts of his epic collection. As you'd expect from a man who has traveled the world hunting down records, the majority of the 15 tracks will be unknown to all but a handful of similarly minded crate diggers. In fact, some are so obscure that you'll struggle to fnd any mention of them at all online. This could be your only chance to own the boogie-era reggae-disco brilliance of Le Banda De Martin's Mi Dueno' and the tear-jerking Afro-soul shuffe of Kosmik 3's I'm Gonna Pack' (here featured in exclusive Jeremy Spellacey re-edit form). Spacetalk Records' frst compilation, Beauty, offered listeners the chance to take a trip through the record collection of noted Parisian crate-digger and DJ Jeremy Underground. exercise. This time, though, they've turned to a lesser-known hunter of rare and obscure records, namely Crown Ruler Records co-founder Jeremy Spellacey. Spellacey has previously shied away from sharing the secrets of his extensive record collection. Crown Ruler Sound, then, is a rare treat: a gloriously colourful, sun-baked compilation of tropical treats from Africa, the Caribbean and beyond, hand-picked by the man who helped license this year's most essential reissue, the South African boogie brilliance that is Focus's Zulu.Highlights come thick and fast, from the frst note to the last. Check, for example, the wild P-funk of Acayouman's Funk Around', the dancing marimbas and undulating grooves of Feladey's Forest Music' and the impeccable South African jazz-funk of Stimela's sought-after 1983 debut single, I Love You'.Other notable highlights include Ezy & Isaac's spellbinding 1977 cut Let Your Body Move (Oba Balu Balu)', seemingly the missing link between Rotary Connection, Fela Kuta and soundscape disco, Devon Russell's inspired reggae-soul cover of Curtis Mayfeld's Move on Up', and Mike Fabulous' Wang East', a sublime chunk of summery lectro-reggae from Spellacey's native New Zealand. We could go on, but we don't want to spoil all the surprises. Suffce to say, Crown Ruler Sound will surprise and entertain you in equal measure.

Italian master, London based Stefano Ritteri takes centre stage for the latest edition of Shir Khan presents Black Jukebox — number 32 in this illustrious series. This one is a chiefly electro-flavoured affair, joining the dots between the genre’s past, present and future across four slick tracks — with a dash of garage at the end.
‘Slow Tripping’ is a homage to the charismatic boogie sound of the early ‘80s, resplendent with beautiful melancholic melody and a wistful air. As the name suggests, the lazy beat perfectly compliments the array of dreamy sounds, and there’s a definite nod to French disco/electro/hip-hop fusions of days gone by.
‘Donna’ is a collab with Mytron (Bordello A Parigi, Multi Culti)which continues the chuggy theme, its gently swaying synth arpeggios and unhurried beat recalling some of Soulwax’s more pared back material. Its simple arrangement is kept engrossing with synth automation and subtle atmospheric touches.
‘Brutesque’ strips things back to an almost minimalist approach, where twanging, monotone sounds slowly morph over a taut backbeat and a variety of bleeps and blips. With its spoken word sounds and Krautrock-ish mixture of sounds, it recalls the work of Public Service Broadcasting.
‘Robot Love’ takes its cues from the sweeter side of 2-step garage, bubbled down to a more laconic pace. Cute melodic refrains and big reverbs adorn the stuttering rhythm to make for a colourful, atmospheric, reflective track.

After winning over the disco scene in the last five years, Masterworks Music has branched and launched sister label Deep Cutz. And the first release, a five-track EP from Jehan and Donnie, lives up to the name brilliantly.
After an atmospheric intro that hints at the deep, jazz-laced house masterclass to come, it's straight into business with Donnie Moustaki's 'Saturnian Beer' and 'Lady 2000' by Jehan on the A-Side.
Donnie's lead track is full of fluttering arps, dusty kicks and claps and a hazy sunset glow brought on by piano solos and soaring brass. We're not sure what a Saturnian Beer is, but we'll have a four-pack on this evidence, please. 'Lady 2000' meanwhile is a filter-disco groove monster, all live bass action, tippy-tappy percussion and deep house chords.
The B-Side keeps up the momentum on the Deep Cutz EP as Donnie Moustaki and Jehan collaborate on 'Cool Man Nazz.' With a funkier, slower tempo and chunky, driving drums, it's perfect warm-up material to get the toes tapping and the heads nodding.
The EP closes out with Donnie Moustaki's 'Rock Bottom' which goes full-on jazz, all Art Blakey drum rolls, headsnapping bass and righteous piano swirls.

Slinky and sassy, offbeat and sexy, “My Baby Just Cares For Me”, the new single by Lou Hayter, sneaks in on a cloud of off-kilter synths and airy vocals, just in time for the last few rays of this year’s Indian summer.
Already renowned as a DJ, musician in New Young Pony Club, writer and producer, London based Hayter now harnesses the full extent of her idiosyncratic pop prowess on her hotly anticipated forthcoming debut LP on Skint Records, from which “My Baby Just Cares For Me” is the first, tantalisting taste.
A glorious retro-futurist mélange of 80s Rn’B circa Jam and Lewis and starkly modern underground electronica, “My Baby Just Cares For Me” sounds quite unlike anything else out there, a delicious slice of sparkling electro-soul with a heaped teaspoon of astringent Gallic froideur, whose sweet exterior hides something darker, more melancholic within.
