Active on late 70s / early 80s Teknospray were formed by Andrea Costa, Mauro Tavella (who later formed Monuments), Andrea Lesmo, Alberto Ramella (who later formed Carmody) and Lucio Lesmo
They recorded few demos and an album which they never released until today as "God In Land"is now reissued on Disordine's sub label Der Klang for the 1st time

Mannequin Records is elated to present a double LP compilation of the legendary experimental new wave label run by Frank Bretschneider from 1985 till 1989 in Karl-Marx-Stadt (now Chemnitz).
Later founder of RASTER-NOTON togheter with Olaf Bender and Carsten Nicolai, Bretschneider established the label to make his music accessible for a small group of interested parties. Eventually eight releases were published all in all. Due to the restrictive laws in the former GDR, where media was completely controlled by the government and any private publishing was actually illegal, it was only possible to publish a very limited number of copies.

First only known to a handful of specialists, the label become acquainted soon, especially with the help of Lutz Schramm, the host of the famous "Parocktikum" radio program on East German DT-64 station. With the fall of the wall and the opportunities to publish his music finally in a more professional way, Bretschneider closed down klangFarBe in 1989 with releasing the final cassette: Trickbeat by AG GEIGE.

For the first time since it's original release, FUTURISMO give you an incredible redux reissue of this long lost electronic gem on LP...and for the first time ever, on CD! Also included within this newly designed release alongside OUR DAUGHTERS WEDDING's milestone 1982 album tracks are the five songs featured on their unmissable Digital Cowboy ep, which includes their underground dancefloor hit Lawnchairs. To top off this first time reissue we have included the original uncensored cover photo by Anders Nordström (deemed too risqué at the time) as well as his unseen photos of ODW housed in a fold-out inner sleeve that also contains liner notes by original member Scott Simon.

ODW were also distinct in that they employed a punchy, energised and even slightly aloof take on electropop that simultaneously stayed true to their punk and rock 'n roll upbringing, an authenticity that drove them to play all electronic instruments live without the aid of any sequencers. Their signature track Lawnchairs instated ODW in the clubland etha by becoming a instant dance floor hit and remains a high point in the history of the synthesized pop. Produced by the mega-talents of both David Spradley (Funkadelic) and Colin Thurston (Duran Duran, Iggy Pop) this version of Moving Windows takes their sound that one step further.

Zwischenfall formed in Belgium with Michael Sass (synths), Martin Urban (bass/vocals) and Stephan Kraemer (guitar/drums) in 1982. They were united by musical sensibilities that combined electronic and traditional instruments developing the basis for their 1982 demo recordings. By chance Patrick Codenys of the Belgian electro pioneers Front 242< heard two songs and decided to record a 4-song EP for the electro band's newly formed label Mask. The Heute' EP was released in 1983 after a week of recording in Front's private studio under the direction of sound-whiz Daniel B. Bearing in mind MIDI had not been invented at the time, the recording involved some extensive sound sculpting including the use of individual synths (PPG Wave, Syrinx, Roland System 100, etc.) for separate drum sounds. To create an organic feel to the combination of acoustic and electric guitar, a trumpet and a bass were incorporated into the electronic arrangements. Sonically way ahead of their time, Zwischenfall have a distinct sound with hard rhythms and melancholic melodies that blend minimal yet catchy electronics to create a very danceable production.

Wanexa - The Man From Colours

Gianluigi 'Gigi' Farina and Francesco Rago are to be counted among Italo disco's true originators. Operating as a duo under many monikers, they brought us masterpieces such as Wanexa's 'The Man From Colours', 'Lectric Workers' 'Robot Is Systematic', and Decadance's 'On And On'. Their sound is propulsive and ethereal in equal measure - dense, psychedelic, and tinged with melancholy.

'The Man From Colours' was recorded in Milan in 1982 and released on Discomagic Records the same year. The song's music was composed by Rago and Farina, with lyrics written by Xenia Monneret, who was only 16 at the time. Mournful synth pads are buoyed by an 808 groove, while Lyana Galis provides haunting vocals, singing of a man who will bring color to this grey world. 'The Man From Colours' was influential on early House and Techno music thanks to support from WBMX in Chicago and and WJLB in Detroit. It was later a cornerstone in the 90's Hague electro scene, frequently appearing in DJ sets by I-F and Intergalactic Gary. On the B-side is the instrumental version with extended breaks, drum claps and additional vocoder verses. There is a slight warble in the beginning of each version that was due to the band re-recording multiple takes on the same reel of tape.

Both songs have been remastered for vinyl by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley. The record comes housed in a newly designed die-cut jacket by Eloise Leigh, updating the pink and green color scheme of the original Discomagic Records label. Each copy includes a double-sided postcard insert with lyrics, notes, and a never seen before photo from a fashion show.

On his project HUE, British multi-instrumentalist Simon Goff explores the musical space between minimal music and drones, music performance and installation.

After being a member of Leeds (UK) based cult-pop band Hope and Social for 6 years, known for their inclusive brand of music making, Goff is now further exploring how to involve spectators and other performers in his creative process. Relocating to Berlin in 2015, the home of experimental electronic music, Goff is a regular collaborator with the likes of Andrea Belfi (Constellation, Miasmah), Aidan Baker (Alien8, Brokenspine) and Pete Simonelli (Enablers). His interest lies in challenging his up-bringing as a classical violinist and deepening his understanding of the sounds that have surrounded him for over 20 years, engaging with electronics to enhance his ability to include other people in the music creation process, for him the most important and enjoyable part of being a musician.

Created with visual artist Sebastian Kite (Royal British Society of Sculptors) and choreographer Lisanne Goodhue (Sebastian Matthias, Tanz platform 2012, 2014), HUE is a work that challenges the traditional notions of dance performance, concert music and visual art exhibition. Using colour as a bridge between their practices, the artists designed an experience that allows people to choose their own method, pace and duration of reception. HUE focuses on the spaces between mediums, encouraging sensitive observation through repetition and change. The sound is created through a series of motion sensors positioned throughout the space that trigger samples and musical devices engaging participants in the sonic creation. Taking inspiration from Terry Riley and his contemporaries, the musical performance follows a modular score allowing an improvisatory approach to interacting with the musical proposition created by participants movement. The result is a soundscape, shifting through ambiences that engulf the listener, propelling them on a journey through colour.

Simon Goff is a British multi-instrumentalist, improvisor, producer and composer currently based between Berlin, DE and Yorkshire, UK. He is a classically trained violinist who also spent his formative years studying bass guitar with Herbie Flowers (David Bowie, Lou Reed). A regular touring musician he has collaborated and performed with the likes of Aidan Baker (Alien8, Brokenspine), Bee and Flower (Neurot), Andrea Belfi (Constellation, Miasmah, Nils Frahm) and more. His own music focused mainly on string instruments and electronic processing and in recent years he has written music for dance, film and sound installation. He has performed and shown work in Europe, America and the Middle East and since mid 2016 he has been part of the team at Vox-Ton studios in Berlin working on records for the labels such as Erased Tapes and Naxos as well as film soundtracks with composers Hauschka and Dustin O'Halloran.

The Frozen Autumn - Time Is Just A Memory

The Frozen Autumn is an Italian darkwave band, formed in May 1993 in Turin, Italy.
Originally the solo project of singer, keyboardist and synth programmer Diego Merletto, guitarist Claudio Brosio joined on during early studio sessions and live performances. Together they recorded and released two albums, Pale Awakening' in 1995 and Fragments of Memories' in 1997. In 1998, Claudio left the band and Diego recruited Arianna (aka Froxeanne) who sings, programs and composes. After 18 months of work, The Frozen Autumn's third album, Emotional Screening Device', was released in April 2002.

Time Is Just A Memory' is a 6-track overview of songs from The Frozen Autumn's first three albums. Characterized by a blend of melancholic vocals, atmospheric gothic-wave and 1980s-style electropop, the duo call their style "frozen wave'. The Frozen Autumn have stated that labelmates Clan of Xymox have been their main source of inspiration over the years. Other influences include Dead Can Dance, Cocteau Twins, The Sisters of Mercy, Xmal Deutschland, David Sylvian and Depeche Mode. These six tracks stand out for their rich melodies, from the guitar-laden early tracks Dusk Is Like A Dagger', Wait For Nothing', There's No Time To Recall', and This Time,' to the electronic sheen on later songs Is Everything Real' and Silence Is Talking'.

All songs have been remastered for vinyl by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley. The release is housed in a custom-made jacket by Peer Lebrecht, from German electro/synthpop band The Dust Of Basement, incorporating a photograph by Diego over a textured background that recalls early 4AD designs. Each copy comes with a double sided 11x11 insert with lyrics and notes.

Soul Jazz Records' new Punk 45 release documents the first radical underground punk bands to come out of France including Metal Urbain (the first group ever to be signed to Rough Trade Records), Marie et Les Garçons, Asphalt Jungle,
through to the earliest experimental cold wave/minimal wave electronic groups such as Kas Product, Charles de Goal and A3 Dans le WC who emerged at the start of the 1980s.
The accompanying large 50-page outsize booklet shows how punk in France emerged out of the country's history of rebellion and revolution (from Serge Gainsbourg to the Paris '68 riots) as well as a love for American punk and protobands like The New York Dolls and The Stooges, and was kick-started by

This transliteration was the starting point for Marc Collin and Olivier Libaux's unique project, which, by appropriating the punk and post-punk cannon and running it through the Bossa Nova filter, reinvented the cover band genre, revealing new and brilliant talents along the way: Camille, Phoebe Killdeer (whose Fade Out Lines was remixed by The Avener,) Nadeah, Mélanie Pain, and, soon, Liset Alea. The gambit paid off, with sales of over one million records over four albums released between 2004 and 2010, and world tours that included stops at venues such as London's Royal Albert Hall, L.A.'s Hollywood Bowl and Paris' Olympia. Since 2011, Nouvelle Vague had stopped recording, focusing on an innovative live show created in collaboration with the mythical Jean-Charles de Castelbajac (Ceremony and Dawn of innocence,) and branching out into different projects: Olivier's Uncovered Queen of the Stone Age, and Marc's Bristol, along with his Kwaidan label. The time seems right to write a new chapter in the Nouvelle Vague saga: with a new album I Could Be Happy' and live show, the band and its coterie of female vocalists continue their time travels with a renewed alegria. Nouvelle vague by Nouvelle Vague and Some Friends is thus more of a nexus of forthcoming projects: a new album comprised of punk and post punk standards imbued with the inimitable Nouvelle Vague touch, and, for the first time, a bevy of surprising Collin/Libaux which prove that the two producers are more than prodigious arrangers.This album is also the opportunity to gather again the pioneer singers of Nouvelle Vague: Élodie Frégé, Mélanie Pain, Liset Alea, Nadeah and to find other guests as Camille or Clara Luciani. A worldwide tour is already confirmed and announced. It will begin in Europe and Asia, in the fall, and will continue through South America and the U.S.A. in the new year, and feature the entire crew on stage, around Marc and Olivier: Mélanie Pain, Élodie Frégé, and Liset Alea.

With guest turns on every track, Georgia explore a new approach to studio production, incorporating the sounds of world and jazz music into their digital funk and combining and processing improvisation and composed elements to create a unified, distinct voice. This approach can be heard on Ama Yes Uzume,' as a primally incandescent vocal from Caroline Polachek (Chairlift) blends with glistening waves of piano and synth to form a euphoric rhythm that materializes out of curved air. Blending live performance with sampling and editing, Georgia constantly revise and revisit their work, breaking down, collaging, and
refracting sounds.

On lead track Slow Dance,' vocals by performance artist India Menuez waft over a loping bass line
(sampled from a performance by Matt Werth of RVNG) while digital flutes cluster in the background. The outcome is a kind of new age mutant funk, not unlike the sound of Annette Peacock or 23 Skidoo jamming in the studio with Jon Hassell. Additional collaborators include avant-garde harpist Mary Lattimore, saxophonist Wednesday Knudsen, and Gabonese vocalist Abang Essone Sarah Maya. High-functioning Flesh - Human Remains

Los Angeles based EBM duo High-Functioning Flesh usher in 2016 with a new single entitled "Human Remains" on Dais Records. For the past three years, synth-punks Gregory Vand and Susan Subtract have pulled together their subversive misgivings through a series of releases such as their debut album "A Unity of Miseries...A Misery of Unities" on DKA Records and their sophomore follow-up "Definite Structures" on Dais Records. Each audible imprint left behind by High- Functioning Flesh dices up their sinister tone, reworking themselves through their own self reference and spits out a malformed adjustment of electronic dynamics and uneasy phonetic display.

"Human Remains" signifies the band's movement from aggressive industrial structure to shining dance floor anthems, all while making sure their audience never strays in thought of who their musical architect is playing overhead. Coupled with the B-side "Heightened State", HFF passes through the speakers at more progressive, minimal electronic pace. Keeping up the rhythm and nature of their familiar signature, HFF matures into complex, infectious cadence married with a voltaic synthesized sound that has us never halting in our dance and curious about their next move.

Oppenheimer Mkii - Another Nightmare

Oppenheimer Mk II is Andy Oppenheimer and Mahk Rumbae. Andy Oppenheimer - Singer, songwriter and formerly one-half of 1980s synth-pop duo Oppenheimer Analysis, one of the leading bands of the 'minimal synth' scene, and inspiration behind the Minimal Wave label.

Mahk Rumbae - Electronic musician and producer known for his work with long-running UK industrial/experimental band Konstruktivists. Andy and Mahk joined forces after performing together at Vienna's legendary electronic music venue Rhiz in April 2012, and discovering a shared love for for 1960s pop and 1980s synth music.

After their debut album 'The Presence of the Abnormal', released in 2013, and the Line of Sight EP released in 2015, the band return with a new single 'Another Nightmare' on Peripheral Minimal. The two songs 'Another Nightmare' and 'The Presence of the Abnormal' were originally featured on their debut album, and now this new single gives these complete new versions of these two songs a new lease of life as well as being available on vinyl for the first time.

Bal Pare - Early Recordings

Medical Records presents a hand-picked selection of the early recordings of Germany's Bal Paré. The band started as Jeanette & das Land Z in 1981 with a 7 on Konkurrenz Rec./ Phonogram which included two cover versions ( Raumpatrouille' soundtrack from a weird science fiction TV series and sixties Grand Prix Eurovision number one hit, Poupe de cire, poupe de son by France Gall.). The 7' became an underground hit.

Members were Kirsten Klemm (vocals), Jan T. Krahn (Synthesizer) and Matthias Schuster (Synthesizer, Beatbox). The band changed their name to Bal Paré and begin recording independently. In addition, drummer Jürgen Weiss joined the band. The band name was based on the song Es war beim Bal Pare from the German chansonette Hildegard Knef, which was a musical influence on bands like Kraftwerk, Depeche Mode, Erasure, Yazoo, etc.

The first Bal Paré LP Hamburg-Paris-Catania was released in 1982 on Konkurrenz Records. The members performed under witty pseudonyms for that record. Since they had a large fanbase in Sweden, the second release ( Metamorphose') came out in Stockholm on the Krautrock label.

Around this time, a new member, Manfred Asmus , joined on keyboards and programming and Jan T. Krahn and Jürgen Weiss had left the band.

There were many tracks produced during this time that ended up unreleased. Much of the material from this selection of tracks were culled from unreleased sessions from the 80s with Manfred Asmus (and subsequently also collected on the Best of' CD only release in 1996 on Tatra Records.

Interestingly there was only one and only gig by Bal Paré in Hamburg with Apoptygma Berzerk and Sabotage Q.C.Q.C. Due to requests since 2000, Matthias Schuster has reformed Bal Paré and has released several new records with much success.

The original two LPs are long out of print and demand very high prices on the collectors market. This is the first time this collection has been reissued on vinyl. The opening track Rien' is a perfect display of what synth pop is modeled after. Rich lead synth textures, male/female interplayed vocals, and electronic percussion. Though the entire record flows with ease and captivates the listener from beginning to end, other standout tracks include Palais d'Amour', Die Idioten', and Meilleur Du Monde'.

This collection is absolutely crucial for fans of early new wave such as Deux, Moderne, Performance and other similar acts of the genre.

Exploded View - Exploded View

After recently signing to Sacred Bones Records, new four-piece Exploded View, fronted by German/Bristol political- journalist-turned-musician/singer Anika, announce news of their debut self-titled album, due August 17th. The band are sharing new track 'Orlando' from the forthcoming record.
While lead single 'No More Parties in The Attic' is laden with an enticing no-wave, post-punk sound, layered with distorted guitars and ominous drones- 'Orlando' chimes in with echoing vintage synths, courtesy of Hugo Quezada that clash with a chilly electro backbeat and an anthemic soulful bass line setting the tone.  With her disarming quietude nursery rhyme like vocal delivery, Anika remarks on the creation process: Well, that day I was speechless and empty, a reflection of the times. I became a vessel for the past, the only way to deal with or help understand the present. Enlightenment came with the help of some strong leading ladies, A certain author, a certain film and a certain actress. Go figure.'

Anika released her self-titled debut album in collaboration with Geoff Barrow's Invada imprint and Stones Throw to critical acclaim in 2010. This new project was created during the rehearsal sessions for Anika's Mexican live debut back in March 2014.  An unexpected partnership formed between Annika and local producers, Martin Thulin (Crocodiles producer) synth-head Hugo Quezada (Robota) and Riotboy sweetheart Hector Melgarejo (Jessy Bulbo / Nos llamamos) to form Exploded View. The four musicians discovered a new sound, several steps removed from the krautrock-isms of Henderson's previous work during their rehearsals and live performances in Mexico City. The straight to tape sessions that followed in the San Rafael neighborhood, ventured somewhere new, a lighter place, unguarded, veering from any script.  Improvisation was the guiding principle and the source of the band's inspiration. The studio itself was outfitted so that every sound produced in the room would be recorded. A Tascam 388 8-track captured everything - fully live, fully improvised, first-takes only. Produced by Thulin and Quezada and mastered by Josh Bonati in NYC.

Form Hell is the debut release by Victims, the collaborative project of film composer Timothy Fife, and Video Nasties member, Chris Livengood. Mainstays in the darkest, most obscure netherworlds of the New England underground scene, the work of these individuals has circulated over the past decade only amongst the filthy hands and minds of those in the know. Together as Victims, the two make synthesizer music inspired in equal measure by the highest and lowest expressions of the medium. For every nod to Subotnick and Mort Garson there's a indiscrete wink aimed at Marcello Giombini and Walter Sear. "Form Hell" finds the two minds meeting and melting at their most damaged point: the holes torn open by repeated viewings of the most filthy of films, setting forth a pulsating kosmiche geyser of shimmering cinematic sounds. Perhaps if Tangerine Dream geared up and jammed immediately after their 12th consecutive viewing of Burial Ground: Night of Terror, it might sound something like this. If Michael Hoenig had scored The Gate before abandoning his analog synths, those fleshy little minions would've been dancing to the arpeggiated menace of Form Hell.

Doric - Sleep Of Reason

Peripheral Minimal is welcoming Doric to their quarters. Doric is the moniker of the purist, Stathis Leontiadis (Human Puppets, Exetix, Plexiglas). Being involved in various avant garde/new wave music projects since 1996, intrigued by the 'all' analogue mentality of the late '70s - early '80s music field, he is passionately committed to vintage synths and machines, creating a very distinctive and specific style and considered by many as a "specialist". On this release,the main subject of the record is creative interplay. The first side (the "Asleep"side), includes songs, written by the artist alone, using sleep as a metaphor of loneliness and seclusion from the oppressive, everyday society that smothers anything unique under the struggle of daily routine. However, on the second side, Doric mutes his skeptic, internal monologue for a bit and collaborates with two very talented and like-minded artists, Pascal and Valisia Odell. Pascal (Foucault, Noisetoy, Ludmilla) is an ingenius multi-instrumentalist and an old friend of Doric and Valisia Odell (Phoenix Catscratch, Strawberry Pills, Father Breath) is one of the most charismatic voices in Greece, with a very distinctive and enchanting vocal hue.This friendship results to the second side (the "Awaken" side), a critical view of what our society translates into artistic and life success in general. A simplified formula that often leads to bury our most creditable truths, in order to become a pattern, easily readable and understandable by the masses.The overall essence of this record however concludes to a rather optimistic dream of a utopian reality,where everyone can create unobscured. The value of each effort can only be appreciated through time. Limited to 300, black copies with the distinctive "Doric" handmade artwork,a homage to the D.I.Y. Ethos, an infusion from the past but a promise of a future.

If you love contemporary minimal music, then you are certainly familiar with the Greek artist Stathis Leontiadis. With his bands Human Puppets, Exetix and Plexiglas this musician became one of the stars of the genre. Now he is back with Doric. With this solo project he already released a single and an album on Fabrika and a 10" on Domestica. The new release is once again a 10", this time on Peripheral Minimal.

Doric uses a special concept. The A-side is the so-called Asleep side and is about loneliness: music that sounds paranoid. Sleep Of Reason is almost unbearable, it's madness driven by minimal electronics. Everything is very danceable, but this is the dance of madness. The minimal sound comes straight from the 80s. Over My Dreamssounds a bit like the early Parade Ground. Simply great! Head Against the Wall (a title that needs little explanation) is slow and compelling.

The three tracks on the B-side are the Awaken side for which Stathis worked together with Pascal (Foucault, Noisetoy, Ludmilla) and Valisia Odell (Phoenix Catscratch, Strawberry Pills, Father Breath), two musicians who are no strangers in the Greek underground.

Exposing Vanity and Life In Reverse do not sound cheerful, but you hear a different dimensionn of Doric. The lyrics are about the malaise of the society we live in. Not that you will understand Stathis' words, but music is a language in itself.

Do not hesitate, just buy this!

Lena Platonos - Res Axes Remix Ep

Lena Platonos is a pioneer of the Greek electronic music scene of the 1980s. She produced and released her second solo album, 'Gallop', in 1985 that we reissued in 2015. The album is made exclusively using analog synthesizers and heavily features the iconic Roland TR-808 drum machine. Lena narrates each song, reciting her own surreal Greek poetry with unique skill. Lena says of 'Gallop', 'It's a study in the mythology of urban population of the contemporary metropolis and also a gaze into the future life of it.'

We've asked Red Axes to chose their four favorite songs from 'Gallop' and create remixes for each one. Red Axes is Tel-Aviv based producers and DJs Dori Sadovnik and Niv Arzi, releasing their own productions and remixes since 2009 on I'm a Cliché, Correspondant and Hivern Discs. The duo was raised on a steady diet of post-punk, new-wave and Italo-disco at fogged out warehouse and basement parties. They've transform 'Witches' and 'And We Hear 'I Love You'' into solid dancefloor tools. 'No. 9' and 'Liqueur Ruby' transport the listener to a hypnotic state tripped out in a psychedelic mist, with the latter featuring middle eastern rhythms by fellow Tel Aviv musicians The Dirty Lizards.

All songs have been mastered for vinyl by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley. The jacket riffs off the original 'Gallop' cover, isolating the photograph of Lena layered on a grid backdrop designed by Eloise Leigh. Each copy includes a two-sided postcard with a manipulated frame from one of Lena's music videos. In a time of over connectivity it was time to disconnect, again.
This album was recorded over the course of a year between two caves, an empty cove and a countryside finca on the island of Mallorca. The summer days were long and hot. The winter nights were longer, cold and damp. Libby, Herbes Seques and a contained fire kept me company. It was experimental in process, strictly interpreting my surroundings and emotions involved with the inescapable solitude of this address-less residence.
Primitive Thoughts part of a series of visual works called 'Croupier', a concept developed by artist Julian Smith focusing on the aftermath of loosing everything to a storage fire in Venice beach and the subsequent recreation process of new works on an Island in the Balearics.

With Dominick Fernow as producer and effectively acting in a 3rd band member role, they triangulate a sound that's nostalgic for the gothic undertones of '80s and '90s darkness, getting
into gear with the hearse-cruising coldwave pop rocket We Are Aware, and casting a long,
northern-pointing shadow of BM toil and shoegaze anguish in Never Pass Away.
Ultimately though, we reckon it's the B-side - an instrumental cocktail of ice cold, downbeat 'electronics that sounds like Badalamenti meets ambient Plastikman - which will get under the
skin and stick with you longest...

Mannequin has the dual and parallel aim to unearth hidden or unpublished gems, running along a road that starts from the period of reference for this kind of music (late 70s - mid 80s) and comes to nowdays, with a vision deeply influence by Factory Records / 4AD labels.
Catching the same spirit of such great labels, we asked to the italian synth wave princess Mushy to create a compilation starting from a tabula rasa. The mission was hard. Following her tastes and heart, she had to select a dozen of new bands from all over the world with unreleased and unique for this project tracks, picking up the title and realizing the graphic design and artwork. The full process of "The End Of Civilization" took almost 1 year but the result was touching us deep into our soul.

Mushy began her career crafting noise bursts and aggressive oblique instrumentals before, in her newest form, blooming into a beautiful, epic and heart-heavy icy synth sound, having both "Faded Heart" (2011) and "Breathless" (2012) as album of the week at Rough Trade. "The End Of Civilization" perfectly represents her double sided synth-wave / kraut-psychedelic soul. Every track she selected for us is an absolute highlight, moving from the analog minimal / cold wave sounds of Police Des Moeurs, ASSS, The Circa Tapes, TEEEL and Rosemary to the tempestuous post punk and psychedelia of Deathday, The Murder Act, Phosphor and The Strange Forces, ending with spectral cold folk of Tablets and The Long Wives.

Aion, or Aeon, in the tradition of Greek cosmology, was the personification of Time, with the more famous Kronos, corresponding to Saturn Latin. Revered as "Lord of Light", Aeon (AION) represented eternity, infinite time, as well as the succession of eras. Just time talking this new vinyl published by JAM TAXX: somehow it shows how the same song, born in a given context in time and space (a marginal Italy of the late 70s sets in a still immature europe) can be re-interpreted 30 years later with a new spirit, remaining in part what it was originally, but also becoming another completely new thing (that didn't exist before) ... The statue of the boxer from the Roman stadium of the marbles, pictured on the cover, is juat Aion represented as an athlete who fights between light and shadow, past and future, divided in half just like in the inner label of this precious vinyl, in sharp contrasts and games of symmetries used in the graphics of this speial edition (white vinyl) ... Heraclitus wrote: "the time (Aeon) of human life is a child who plays his games moving his toys: to a child belongs the sovereign power" What is a remix if not a game where you move elements to create something new And of course to a child belongs the sovereign power, the demiurgic ability to redefine reality starting from what has been already done. And that child is us.

Polypores - The Fialka Transmissions

Next up on Polytechnic Youth following the rapid fire, single afternoon sell out of it's singles collection LP ( They Make No Say' currently being repressed and with a CD out on US label Emotional Response) is the magnificent debut full length from POLYPORES.

Following a batch of incredible, exclusive online / digital releases, Polytechnic Youth releases the projects' first physical release, and it is a beauty.

Polypores (aka Stephen James Buckley) is based in a tiny home studio in Preston. He conjures up imaginary soundtracks from science fiction films of a bygone age that never existed. Think John Carpenter and Italo-disco filtered through Scarfolk Council's tannoy system, and heard through a haze of long-banned sedatives and you're in the right ballpark.

The Fialka Transmissions' was created with 3 analog synthesizers and a sampler. It was inspired by voices picked up on a shortwave radio, a winter spent immersed in dystopian fiction, and the increasing possibility of that fiction becoming a reality. Coldwave synth tones and decrepit dancefloor beats occasionally giving way to moments of decayed melancholy.

The LP is a one time pressing of 300 only, on splatter vinyl and destined to sell it's run out super quick....

Lunapark - Gefangene Vögel

Lunapark is the trio of Burkhard Ballein, Klaus "Schlips" Gebauer, Reinhard "Zoppen" Benisch from Wuppertal, Germany. Formed in 1981 when the boys were dissatisfied with their surrounding musical environment. They packed their instruments and a cassette recorder and set off to create their own brand of Neue Deutsche Welle (NDW "New German Wave'). Their influences included The Beatles, Colloseum, Roxy Music, Frank Zappa as well as Sex Pistols, Ian Dury & The Blockheads, Blondie and The Cure. Gefangene Vögel' ('Prisoner Birds') is their debut album released by Intakt Records, Stuttgart in 1982. Utilizing a simple set up of guitar, bass, drums, drum-computer, Korg MS-10 and Korg MS-20 they recorded 10 tracks that make up the album. Songs bridge the Belgian-type industrial and cold sounds with NDW quirkiness. In the vein of Sad Lovers and Giants, and Schleimer K they blend post-punk and new wave music with electronic influences. All songs are sung in German with monotone vocals and epitomized the urban Zeitgeist of the Cold War. All songs have been remastered for vinyl by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley. The vinyl comes housed in a replica of the original jacket design, which features a drawing of birds on a grid. There are 4 different color versions of the screen printed jacket: blue, yellow, magenta and turquoise. Each LP includes a copy of the double sided 11x11 insert that was included with the original pressing with lyrics and photos.

'Trust No Woman' is their debut album from ZYX (from then on they signed all publications with GRAF+ZYX) released in 1981 on the label RCA Musica. Recorded, mixed and mastered from March to August 1981 at their own Sun Moon & Stars Studio Vienna. They designed their short, immediate songs around a barrage of analogue synthsizers, rock-solid electronic beats and controlled, low-key vocals. It is an exceptional showcase of electro-pop, cold and mechanical robotic rhythms under a claustrophobic atmosphere. Songs are sung in English with a heavy German accent and lyrics resemble obscure, existentialist dialogues. Each song is infused with the spirit of hopeful discovery that accompanied the introduction of affordable home computers and synthesizers at that time. It is a album that advances the sounds set forth by The Human League, Cabaret Voltaire, Tuxedomoon and Yello. All songs have been remastered for vinyl by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley. The vinyl comes housed in replica of the original jacket design, which features a photograph from a video still by ZYX. Each LP includes a copy of the double sided 11x11 full color insert that was included with the original pressing featuring photos and lyrics plus a postcard. ZYX may not be as revered as Kraftwerk, yet their work shares the technological melancholy that suffuses through the music of the men from Düsseldorf.

Cold Science is a singles anthology by Les Panties, the stylish Brussels new wave group featuring Sophie Frison, Hugo Fernandez, Sebastien Decupere and Paul Normann.

The CD and download features all ten tracks from the three singles and EPs released by the band on their own Fantomes label between 2011 and 2015, including No Run and Here & Now. Don't be fooled by the throwaway name - the poised, retro-futuristic sound of Les Panties is every bit as tough as Savages, as godlike as Chvrches, and as melodic as School of Seven Bells.

Lung Dart are Tim Clay and James Rapson - together they make textural, layered music that's deeply soulful and melancholic, utilising live instrumentation as well as field recordings captured on their phones ranging from sounds of the bowels of Wembley Stadium at 4am to the bellowing wind coming off the Leicestershire hills and broken machinery. The result is a collage of sound inspired by the likes of Arthur Russell, Bjork, Lonnie Holley and Scott Walker, with hints of Connan Mocakasin, Windy & Carl and James Blake all influenced and shaped by the world at large.Sat at home, the pair also spend hours trawling through YouTube for inspiration, utilising samples ranging from clips of Alan Lomax archive footage to ASMR video. The pair say, We wanted the freedom to explore as many musical directions as we could, representing both the abundance of material at our fingertips, whilst also illustrating the sense of claustrophobia, detachment and fickleness that can easily coincide when flicking between 100 tabs on your screen or finding yourself 2 hours deep into a YouTube rabbit hole.'

Palmistry is the project of London based musician Benjy Keating. 'A scorched-earth take on Wax Trax-style electro-industrial that nonetheless point out to influences as diverse as Depeche Mode's Construction Time Again and Whitehouse's Birdseed. ' FACT

The year 2015 saw hardcore inspired EBM outfit, Youth Code, step into line with what most would consider is their well-earned stake in the current world of industrial music. Spending most of that time touring selectively on their own in Europe and then sweeping through North America with the legendary Skinny Puppy, Youth Code pulled together their newest songs, hunkering down with producer Rhys Fulber (Front Line Assembly / Fear Factory), and intertwined the ideas that would become their second full length album, Commitment to Complications.
Born in 2012 out of a Los Angeles bedroom, Youth Code was the instinctive creation of musicians Sara Taylor and Ryan George. The band made their spontaneous live debut at LA-based record store Vacation Vinyl's employee showcase. Word of the incendiary live performance quickly spread and was followed by release of the well-circulated, coveted, Demonstrational Cassette, which saw the band hone their semi-improvised initial set into something altogether more muscular, resonant and lean.
Soon after, Youth Code was invited to release a limited edition single with the legendary Genesis P-Orridge's label, Angry Love Productions. The single quickly sold out and saw the band receive praise from industrial heavyweights including Skinny Puppy and Front Line Assembly. Shortly after the single's release, the band signed with label Dais Records to release their 2013 self-titled full length album, which solidified the band's widespread critical praise from outlets as far ranging as Pitchfork, Fact Magazine and MetalSucks. In 2014, Dais saw through the release of their much anticipated EP, A Place to Stand, which featured remixes by Silent Servant, Clipping, God Module and Sanford Parker.
Since then, Youth Code brought their brand of Industrial to audiences all over the US on supporting gigs with AFI, Nothing, The Body, Suicide Commando and the now infamous Eye vs. Spy Tour with industrial legends Skinny Puppy, Front Line Assembly and Haujobb.
Commitment to Complications reflects Youth Code's time spent with various electronic alumni and scales up the aggressive notch left behind in their previous releases. Youth Code's introduction of the album starts on a reflective note but quickly changes gears into hyper drive BPM pacing with rhythmic complexity driven in with the track Transitions that can only be referenced as maniacal. Songs like Doghead and Shift of Dismay show the band as a frontrunner of definitive industrial anthems and critical songwriting skill. Another harbinger of Youth Code's dire shift into more strident terrain would be evident in the inclusion of Ben Falgoust (Goatwhore) and Todd Jones (Nails) as guest performers. The band's cohesive collaboration with producer Rhys Fulber is in full display, driving the band's aural trajectory into consuming and contentious industrial electronics.

C.a.r & Red Axes - Car Axes

Some things just make sense and we're pleased present the first collaboration of 2 of our favourite artists : RED AXES & C.A.R.
This release has been a long time coming. Tracks were first exchanged back in 2014 and it's been an organic, intuitive process. Like-minded musically & likeminded lyrically - Red Axes & C.A.R. seem to work the same way. Recordings happen fast. One or two takes. It's punk and it's effortless.
1960's, psychedelic 2040 arrived on queue. A sweaty, London-summer evening, after spending the day writing alone out Hackney Marshes, Chloé demo'd the vox. - languid, nostalgic, at arm's reach from the city - the track depicted the moment perfectly. A paper thin Victorian wall separating her from the chatting neighbours, she shut her eyes and got as close to the mic as possible.
A few weeks Red Axes & C.A.R. were together in Tel Aviv. Ten times sweatier than London. To say the studio was dripping hot is an understatement. There was a party heaving in the square below, a van parked in the middle, broadcasting out on the radio waves. Dori was determined to use the intimate London vocals for 2040 and so they cracked on with Incognito, a club track that isn't one but works in its own way: rockabilly reverbs, an almost hip-house delivery, the strange alchemy of 808 fumes. Already inebriated from the city, Chloé had written her words off-cuff in the hotel room, just hours before.
Fastforward a year. Summer 2015. Niv had sent Space Cream a few months earlier - an electronic 4/4 ballad which already featured looped samples of some of the stuff they'd recorded in Israel. Heady and sticky, Chloé had to wait for longer days before she could get anything down.
Finally XMan, descends further down into psychedelia... Perfect for the London winter closing in. Heads filled with Cookie Mueller & memories of losing oneself in dark, basement parties - the words rolled off the tongue.
Last autumn Red Axes invited C.A.R. down to London's Pickle Factory to perform Incognito live. During soundcheck she penned some words for a new track they were debuting, which they also ended up doing. It's an experience synonymous for this collaboration. What comes easy, makes sense.
Remixes come courtesy of Tom Furse (from the Horrors) who, as he says himself, offers "cosmic extrapolations". Think of the soundtracks of Michael Mann movies, Vangelis gone to space heaven and back. Lumiere Noire's protégés, Il Est Vilaine offer future electronic disco punk at its best. They stomp and romp (watch out for the hyena!).

Early pioneers of the German New Wave music scene, Din A Testbild were formed in 1978 by Mark Eins and Gudrun Gut (former member of Einstürzende Neubauten, Mania D. and Malaria!). Din A Testbild played a significant role in defining the avant-garde music of Berlin. Legendary is their partecipation at the Festival Genialer Dilletanten" in 1981.
'Programm 2' is their second album mixed and produced by Klaus Schulze on his own record label Innovative Communication in 1980, Programm 2' was a favourite in the playlists of the Italian cosmic dj heroes Daniele Baldelli and Dj Mozart.

for the 1st time the Official remastered reissue of the original 1984 recording with original artwork - full picture sleeve ! 350 limited copies, vinyl, 2014 under license of Expanded Musuc srl Italy Kirlian Camera are one of the pioneers of the Italian electronic scene. Active since 1979 under the name Suicide Commando, the band changed name in 1980 releasing the first demo-tape Dawn and the self-titled mini-album in late 1981. The early records contain a mix of synth pop and new wave/dance songs, while towards the end of the 1980s' Kirlian Camera's music became darker, turning into electro-gothic sound. Nearly every release since then has explored different fields, from industrial to ambient and trip-hop.

Illustration Sonore - Undisciplined Strips Of Emotions

Medical Records presents the release of its first contemporary artist with the Paris-based Illustration Sonore (I/S). The duo, consisting of Dasz (also in Dolina and Ame De Boue) and Christina (aka Froe Char), expertly craft dark and atmospheric songs laced with unbridled passion in the context of synth-laden melodies, dominant percussion and pensive vocals. I/S uses variations of electricity to control oscillators and frequency modulations. Best described as synth-gaze, dark-wave, or no-future pop. The opening track "Ulysses," sets the mood with uncompromising intensity and passion with serious low frequency tones and catchy synth drenched hooks. Konstruktivists are a UK Industrial group formed by Glenn Michael Wallis in 1982 out of the ashes of Heute. In the late 70's/early 80's Wallis was heavily involved with Throbbing Gristle and the Industrial Records crew. Influenced by Krautrock bands like Can, NEU!, Cluster/Harmonia as well as Tuxedomoon, Yello, Chrome, SPK and early Clock DVA, Glenn began to record his own material. After several cassette releases through Flowmotion under his own name, Konstruktivists' first LP A Dissembly' was released in 1982.

Neon - Tapes Of Darkness Coloured Edition

Neon is not a common name for italian post punk lovers. Born in Florence, the cradle of peninsula's wave, they were probably the first important post punk gothic band in our country and they are still nowadays one of the most active band in 80's Italian new wave time, still marking Italian rock history. The band, which was born first as a duo at the end of the 70's in Florence's undeground culture, soon stands out for its KRAFTWERK and new wave icons' synth, which made their style a unique 80's cultural dream's specimen, together with newromantic and post punk tought of bands like JOY DIVISION, ULTRAVOX and HUMAN LEAGUE. In 1980, the band got off to an electronic start with the single Information of death, and later, through several line up changes, it achieves to synthetize a mix of obsessive electro sounds, obscure athmospheres and quite original pop melodies which take shapes in later works like Tapes of darkness (1981), Obsession (1982), My blues is you (1983), Dark age (1984), in 1985 Rituals sanctioned Neon as the best Italian new wave band of that year. Tse-tse - Land In Sicht

Medical Records returns to Germany for another piece of the Neue Deutsche Welle story with the reissue of the one and only album by Tse-Tse. Long out of print from it's original 1983 pressing, it is due to be heard again. Tse-Tse were Claas Melhop and Clement Hulse. The duo met in Hamburg at a disco. While Claas was a medical student and trained flutist, Clem was a school drop out playing in a German punk band (Hermann's Ogrie) which he joined when he was only 16. They hit it off and spent a lot of time listening to early Human League, Virgin Prunes and other oddball stuff from the time. In between hanging out at trendy bars at some point, Clem took a tiny toy Casio keyboard over to Claas's place. They began improvising and playing through the home stereo. The drum machine sounds were simply whatever was built into the cheap gear, and everything was recorded on a cassette tape player. The songs came together quite easily with key changes and rhythms evolving quite instinctively. A friend of the band ran an independent record label and insisted they go into the studio. They recreated their homemade tunes and added some vocals, sax, bass, and effects. They did use a Korg MS20 and Roland Drumatix which they now had access to. Following the recording, Clem moved to Berlin and later London. He played in multiple grunge bands, but none of them had any use for the novelty toy synthesizers (which at this point were deteriorating rapidly). Back in Hamburg, Claas finished the album but shortly thereafter he suffered a serious car accident. Sadly the entire project suffered a premature end, and none of the pieces were ever performed live. Clement is still playing in bands today and works as a web designer. Claas eventually finished his medical degree and moved to Berlin. He continued to play music with Temple Fortune who released several albums. He is now an established psychiatrist. The album is a very interesting hybrid of minimal instrumentals interspersed with unique more melodic tracks with vocals. There seems to be an almost prog element (in the most stripped down of fashions) and a clear knack for experimentation. After the brief intro, the first track "Land In Sicht" highlights the duo's mastery of novelty keyboards highlighted by restrained use of synth and bass guitar with moody vocals. Whereas the first side tends to feature more traditional style synth oriented tracks with vocals (though still quirky and atypical), the second side evolves into long convoluted instrumental pieces with samples and an array of synths and drum machines in a more heady fashion. Highly recommended for fans of the Neue Deutsche Welle genre and especially those fans of Die Gesunden, instrumental tracks of Der Plan, and even the synth stylings of Soft Cell. Remastered by Martin Bowes at the Cage Studios, UK. Presented on high-quality 180gram heavyweight green transparent vinyl. Limited Edition.

Ecstatic offer a fascinating, often dizzying insight to the primitive industrial minimalism of Italian siblings, Giancarlo and Roberto Drago, a.k.a. The Tapes, via Selected Works 1982 - 1992 sourced from original tapes and pressed to vinyl for the first time ever.
Following on from Ecstatic's issue of 'mail artist' Danielle Ciullini's Domestic Exile Collected Works 82-86, this set surveys a blind-spot in most people's knowledge of early '80s Italian underground music, framed against a backdrop of the Anni di Piombo, or Years of Lead - a period of domestic political turmoil between the late '60s and early '80s - and the mushroom shadow of nuclear war.
Like their international tape-scene allies, The Tapes reacted to this world thru a matrix of mono-synths, drum machines, microphones and 4-track recorders, mostly recording/ experimenting ideas direct-to-tape in one take and making a virtue of their lo-fi set-up's infidelities and imperfections - randomness and mistakes were embraced rather than discarded - whilst absorbing the counter-cultural influence of William Burroughs or Throbbing Gristle, and the sci-fi dystopia of J.G. Ballard and John Foxx.
These 21 tracks, drawn from 10 different, limited tape releases, perfectly distill a wandering, weirdo spirit, ranging from the funereal swagger of Tanz Fabrik and the darkwave hip-thrust
of The Day of Silence to freeform, motorik trajectories such as Time Out of Joint and singular enigmas like the Actress-esque bobble of The Wait and Falso Movimento B2's weightless, hyaline spindles.

International Music System - Dancing Therapy

the 30th anniversary 'Dancing Therapy' by International Music System, often abbreviated as I.M.S. In 1983 Maurizio Cavalieri and Giorgio Stefani, the same musicians who brought you 'Spacer Woman' by Charlie, created International Music System in Vicenza, Italy. Under this moniker, the two would release a pair of albums of stylized and syncopated electronic dance songs showcasing the still-evolving advancement of computer and keyboard-generated music. 'Dancing Therapy' was released as a 12' single in 1984 on the Cavalieri's own Mr Disc Records. It utilized the Roland TR-808, Yamaha DX7 and Linn Drum as the main percussion. Giorgio would hit the two sides of a metal triangle with a drum stick, creating the high pitched tone break throughout the song. Guest vocalist Rebecca McLain, an American ballet dancer, sings about getting lost in music as a means to escape from your troubles. Our special new release, The Other Side Of The River, features all previously unreleased material from the River sessions, including six never-before-heard Reid compositions and five very different alternate takes of tracks from River.

Over the decades, as River went in and out of print, there were rumors of a mythological double album's worth of unreleased material. The rumors turned out to be true, as the entire album was recorded twice: once with British producer Eddy Offord and again with the legendary Tom Dowd. The sessions captured Reid's free-associative mix of folk, blues, rock, jazz, bossa-nova, soul, and samba, recalling at times Tim Buckley and Van Morrison, while featuring some remarkable guests including Gilberto Gil on percussion, Ike & Tina Turner's Ikettes on vocals, and David Lindley, of psych band Kaleidoscope, on violin.

Six irresistible new songs from veteran members of 90s Tokyo underground pop bands like Love Tambourines, Arch and Bridge, all influenced by the Tokyo Neo Acoustic scene as well as early "club music" like Acid Jazz, Rare Groove and early Techno and mentored by Kenji Takimi of Crue-L Records. Bank formed in 2006 and have been assiduously honing their sound since then, distilling an elegant brew compounded of 80s dance music, the funkier elements of post-punk and the Factory Records roster, and other groups such as Young Marble Giants, Weekend and Duran Duran. A consummate blend. Vocalist/guitarist/songwriter Dai Nakamura is joined by guitarist Nobuyuki Ohashi, keyboardist Tadashi Kitami, with Fumio Hirami on bass and Bo Suzuki on drums. The contributions of the latter two are a key part of Bank's charm, with Hirami's funky bass laid over Suzuki's YMO-inspired grid-style drums. But make no mistake, these are true songs, not mere rhythmic exercises. Featuring memorable melodies, heavenly harmonies and attractive arrangements, these songs were mixed and mastered by Tomoki Kanda, a renowned member of the Shibuya-kei scene.

The year 2015 saw hardcore inspired EBM outfit, Youth Code, step into line with what most would consider is their well-earned stake in the current world of industrial music. Spending most of that time touring selectively on their own in Europe and then sweeping through North America with the legendary Skinny Puppy, Youth Code pulled together their newest songs, hunkering down with producer Rhys Fulber (Front Line Assembly / Fear Factory), and intertwined the ideas that would become their second full length album, Commitment to Complications.
Born in 2012 out of a Los Angeles bedroom, Youth Code was the instinctive creation of musicians Sara Taylor and Ryan George. The band made their spontaneous live debut at LA-based record store Vacation Vinyl's employee showcase. Word of the incendiary live performance quickly spread and was followed by release of the well-circulated, coveted, Demonstrational Cassette, which saw the band hone their semi-improvised initial set into something altogether more muscular, resonant and lean.
Soon after, Youth Code was invited to release a limited edition single with the legendary Genesis P-Orridge's label, Angry Love Productions. The single quickly sold out and saw the band receive praise from industrial heavyweights including Skinny Puppy and Front Line Assembly. Shortly after the single's release, the band signed with label Dais Records to release their 2013 self-titled full length album, which solidified the band's widespread critical praise from outlets as far ranging as Pitchfork, Fact Magazine and MetalSucks. In 2014, Dais saw through the release of their much anticipated EP, A Place to Stand, which featured remixes by Silent Servant, Clipping, God Module and Sanford Parker.
Since then, Youth Code brought their brand of Industrial to audiences all over the US on supporting gigs with AFI, Nothing, The Body, Suicide Commando and the now infamous Eye vs. Spy Tour with industrial legends Skinny Puppy, Front Line Assembly and Haujobb.
Commitment to Complications reflects Youth Code's time spent with various electronic alumni and scales up the aggressive notch left behind in their previous releases. Youth Code's introduction of the album starts on a reflective note but quickly changes gears into hyper drive BPM pacing with rhythmic complexity driven in with the track Transitions that can only be referenced as maniacal. Songs like Doghead and Shift of Dismay show the band as a frontrunner of definitive industrial anthems and critical songwriting skill. Another harbinger of Youth Code's dire shift into more strident terrain would be evident in the inclusion of Ben Falgoust (Goatwhore) and Todd Jones (Nails) as guest performers. The band's cohesive collaboration with producer Rhys Fulber is in full display, driving the band's aural trajectory into consuming and contentious industrial electronics.

Vercetti Technicolor's ficticious soundtrack to the 1972 Munich Massacre, is a bleak, cold and somber work. Partly inspired by the 1999 Documentary by Kevin Macdonald, Vercetti creates a tense and brooding approach to this, the most darkest of subject matter. This is far from dancefloor material, this is doom-electronics at it's most frightening. Giallo Disco is proud to present our first LP, Vercetti Technicolor's Black September, closer to minimal wave than moroder and all the better for it. Behold, a cultishly coveted slab of freeform new wave dance/tape music from 1984 Madrid, Spain, re-released by Andy Votel, Sean Canty and Doug Shipton's Dead Cert label.Notable not only for including Beppe Loda's Typhoon favourite, 'La Edad Del Bronce' - which sounds uncannily like a cut from Craig Leon's 'Nommos' - this album also features the beguiling concrète funk of 'Galilea: Centro De Datos', which, by any measure bears a striking, prototypical resemblance to Photek's 'Ni - Ten - Ichi - Ryu' and has become something of an oft-asked about staple in Dead-Cert's polysemous, polymetric DJ sets.Founded in 1978, Mecánica Popular was the brainchild of Luis Delgado (also a member of Finis Africae) and Eugenio Muñoz, conceived and nurtured during after-hours sessions in Madrid's RCA studios exclusively using tape loops only - no samples involved.They did however, use an innovative set-up including a Polaroid 600 camera, an Eventide H910 Harmonizer, and the Arp Odyssey, all fed thru a matrix of FX, to make a wonky, clanking sound that could be happily compared with the output of Conrad Schnitzler, Chris Carter, Jon Hassell, or Kerry Leimer during that fertile early '80s era.For the DJs and post-punk fanatics, this one way is just too good to miss out on. Huge recommendation!

Gimmer Nicholson - Christopher Idylls

Upon first glance, one could be forgiven for wondering which is the artist and which is the title of this album.
Memphis' Larry Gimmer' Nicholson still remains a great unknown today, despite his having orbited the periphery of the city's music scene since the early '60s, playing with artists ranging from Furry Lewis to William Eggleston and influencing a young Chris Bell (Big Star). Fusing classical and folk music, the sound Gimmer created for Christopher Idylls was evocative and unusual, its chiming guitars recalling the music of centuries past while also-when recorded in 1968-being quite desperately ahead of its time.

The album was recorded with Terry Manning (Big Star, Led Zeppelin), who describes its creator as one of the world's most enigmatic people. I don't know how many people really knew him because he was such a private person, a 'full of love' person, who had a dark side as well.' The six compositions that comprise Christopher Idylls were composed out west, Manning believes, while overlooking the Pacific Ocean. They were laid down in 1968 in four weeks of intimate sessions at Ardent Studios that saw Gimmer experiment by feeding acoustic guitars through delay pedals, layering and layering the sound live-one of the first examples of electronic repeat being used as part of the music.

The album was supposed to be the first full-length LP release on Ardent Records, but there were understandable concerns about the size of audience that might be waiting for a curious instrumental album such as this. Meanwhile, Gimmer put blocks in the road himself: he didn't like the original mixes or the sleeve and eventually decided he didn't want the album released at all. He got his way but, Manning argues, the influence of those chiming guitars can be heard in the sounds floating out of Memphis in the decades that followed-especially in Big Star.

Having personally played it to luminaries including Jimmy Page, Manning was frustrated he couldn't get the album to a wider audience. It was one of the best things I've been associated with-and it still is,' he says. It was Manning who finally convinced Nicholson to release the album on CD in 1994 and who was talking about recording more with him when Gimmer passed away at just 54 years old in 2000. Now available on vinyl, it's Gimmer's time to chime-and shine-again.

Necro Deathmort - Ep3

Necro Deathmort live up to their really clever moniker, laying down 6 tracks of trademark seismic DOOMSTEP and utterly bleak NOISEDRONEMETAL with EP3 - a regression to their earliest days when reputable style pundits Vice Magazine wrote: "one minute it's Squarepusher, the next it's Sunn O)))". This is some dark occult shit, a fact reflected in the artwork which shows an almost naked girl holding a goat's skull, her face dripping with blood. There may be runes behind her, we can't quite make them out, what with all the darkness.

The record opens with 'Sedan', a face-melting mixture of a-Ha intensity and ferocious Kraftwerk-esque vocals. How can a robot sound so pissed off and utterly misanthropic Only NDM know how.

'Holy Prism' follows and we're treated to the blackest ever blackness, like a pair of skinny black jeans falling through a black hole and into the tip of a gigantic black Sharpie marker. It's just that black. This is like the soundtrack to some sci-fi horror shit, with Scarlett Johansen in knickers being chased through a spaceship by some kind of pig-demon with razor sharp teeth and a Southern Lord t-shirt on. I'm scared just thinking about it.

Then 'Quandary' kicks in and we're left fighting for our breath as the pummelling beats offer no respite and punch you repeatedly in the face with their tiny drumfists. 'The Regency' does little to soothe our shattered nerves, sounding like a bulldozer pushing a planet into the biggest 3-bar electric fire you've ever seen. 'Sparks' follows and pushes the darkness to '11', sounding like 'Rockit' by Herbie Hancock played by a church mouse in a Cylon helmet. The album concludes with 'Tundra': without hyperbole, the most bleak and harrowing music ever put on vinyl by any human.

Some people may say the band has run out of ideas, which is utterly preposterous: to make this record they used totally different keyboard presets and used extensive Lovecraft references, something never done before by a band anywhere, ever. Some may also say that the band have tired of writing press releases for their music, which is equally preposterous, as there is literally nothing more exciting than trying to describe your work to jaded music journalists. Nothing at all.

To reflect the utter darkness of this release, we've decided to forgo the usual 2-colour splatter vinyl and have them specially pressed on BLACK vinyl - these are going to be serious collectors' items, so if you've been collecting vinyl since April, then one of these bad boys will really stand out in your collection.

For fans of: cool electronic shit, random occult imagery, tight jeans, trends, fashion.

Paki - Visnadi - Imaginary Choreography

The latest release by the Parisian label is thanks to a fluke find by an Antinote family member, who by pure chance, unearthed an unreleased guitar and synth musical jewel from Italy circa 1984. An until now unknown collaboration between a guitar maestro, composer of contemporary dance scores with a gifted electronic music composer. *Includes Download Code* BIG TIP!

Melodic complexity and rhythmic sonic beauty embrace to create a unique and timeless classic that has already achieved cult status among the few who have heard it. Obvious comparisons can be made between the Paki - Visnadi record with the softer ambient side of vintage German electronic i.e. Gottsching, Schnitzler, Cluster etc. but that would be too easy, as this recording stands alone with its uniquely Italian atmosphere of sophisticated and complex simplicity.

This now rediscovered session was recorded by two Venetians: Paki Zennaro (then working with René Aubry for Carolyn Carlson) and Gianni Visnadi (an experimental composer) who met one evening over a glass of vino and decided to work together for the first time with the intention of recording contemporary music to be used by dance schools for study and exercise. Recording on reel to reel tape using electronic equipment (Seq.Circuits Pro One, Prophet 5, TR 808, Roland guitar synth) with an acoustic 12 string guitar gave birth to IMAGINARY CHOREOGRAPHY. When finished and mixed, a few BASF LHextra cassette copies (maybe 6 or 8 only) were sent out to a few friends with a homemade photocopy insert, complete with hand written track names and production details.

A chance find in a Paris market of one of these original demo cassettes led to this wonderful lp finally seeing its first release. This now famous BASF tape was found one lucky morning by Johanna Heather Anselmo (filmmaker, photographer and musician) while searching for musical surprises in a box of tapes that had probably been at that same flea market for 20 years or more. Mademoiselle Johanna is used to rummaging in boxes of dusty tapes, being the girlfriend of Antinote artist Iueke who has the unusual habit of hiding tapes all over their flat. A bit of searching by Iueke lead him to finding contact information for Maestro's Zennaro and Visnadi who were happy to oblige with releasing this almost forgotten 1984 session. Master tapes were sent to paris for immediate transfer and mastering, while the Check Morris team worked with usual class on adapting and reworking the cassette tape artwork for a vinyl issue. We and the people at Antinote are eternally grateful for this lucky find, as i'm sure you all will be too after listening to this musical discovery. Open a bottle of vino and sit back.

Eddie Noack - Ain't The Reaping Ever Done (1962-1976)

A marginal but respected songwriter in his own lifetime, Eddie Noack has become a Honky-Tonk legend in the decades since his death, best known today for an obscure 45 he cut in 1968 called 'Psycho'
Noack was a stellar songwriter and consummate performer who never really got his due. Here, for the first time, are reissued some of Noack's very rarest recordings - some fine LP cuts (recorded in Nashville 1973) that was only ever issued in the U.K (on a minuscule label) and a multitude of rare '60s/'70s 45 only cuts that are rescued from undeserved obscurity. Many of these cuts are the equal of anything in the Noack canon - dark empathic ballads and wry commentaries on the human condition. 'A Few Good Funerals' is a sardonic take on small-town mores, 'Before You Use That Gun' a desperate plea for mercy and 'The Memories Are Restless Tonight' a chilling elegy from a man at the end of his tether. Though schooled in journalism, Noack devoted his life to country music - he went largely unrewarded but left collectors a large body of stunning work. Equally adept at Honky-Tonk weepers, Gospel odes and grim murder ballads, Eddie Noack was always 'pure country.'

Francoise Hardy - Tous Les Garoons Et Les Filles

Hardy was immortalized in 1964 in a poem by Bob Dylan, she associated with The Stones, and dined with Beatles Paul McCartney and George Harrison. She also soon gained more creative control over her music, and she now distances herself from these early recordings where this was not the case. Even if I had been able to say something about the production,' she says now, maybe I would have been listened to, but I didn't know anything.' In the album's title track, Hardy sang about being a soul in torment, and this is the Hardy that emerged-a complicated, pensive outsider, part pop singer, part chanteuse, and utterly unique.
Between 1962 and 1966, Françoise Hardy released one French-language album per year. Each, strictly speaking, was eponymously titled and each was collected from a series of contemporary four-track, seven-inch, picture-sleeve EPs-pop music's main format in France, known as le super 45. In them, we see the maturing of one of the decade's most singular talents- a pop singer with the heart of a chanteuse, a singer-songwriter in an age before such a thing was known, and a style icon who valued privacy and modesty. Remastered from the original tapes, Future Days present the first five Françoise Hardy albums in their original French format, on deluxe LP and CD.

Raised by her mother in Paris, Hardy's upbringing was strict, and she was, she notes today, a very, very shy person." Records and Radio Luxembourg provided escape and inspiration-her two loves were Chanson Française, the Gallic style of Edith Piaf and Charles Aznavour, and rock'n'roll. The Everly Brothers, she says, were a lightning bolt.'

Sent to The Sorbonne to study political sciences, Hardy instead pursued a career as a singer, auditioning for a number of labels before Johnny Hallyday's Disques Vogue snapped her up, intending to market her as a female rocker-the track "Oh Oh Chéri" here gives you a window into their vision. Hardy had other ideas and was determined to record her own songs, written in French, too. The runaway success of one of her own tracks, the iconic "Tous Les Garçons Et Les Filles," proved Hardy right.

Between 1962 and 1966, Françoise Hardy released one French-language album per year. Each, strictly speaking, was eponymously titled, and each was collected from a series of contemporary four-track, seven-inch, picture-sleeve EPs-pop music's main format in France, known as le super 45. In them, we see the maturing of one of the decade's most singular talents-a pop singer with the heart of a chanteuse, a singer-songwriter in an age before such a thing was known, and a style icon who valued privacy and modesty. Remastered from the original tapes, Future Days present the first five Françoise Hardy albums in their original French format, on deluxe LP and CD.

By 1965, Françoise Hardy was truly international. She'd hung out with The Beatles and The Stones, played high-profile shows in London, established a working relationship with British producer Charles Blackwell, and appeared in the film What's New Pussycat She was also a fashion icon seen in the pages of Marie Claire and Vogue and on the cover of Elle, and her first US album was issued that year.

In France, Hardy was to release album number four, the second album to be recorded in London, where her celebrity was rapidly growing-at odds with her natural shyness. In London, it was the first time I'd been made to think I had a certain charm or charisma,' she says now. Thanks to the time in England, I became aware I could be seductive.' L'Amitié, with its evocative, close-up album cover and late-night sound, is the result.

Produced by Jacques Wolfsohn alongside arranger Charles Blackwell, the sessions were notable for some distracting visitors. Mick Jagger was there a few times with various entourages of his at Pye (Studios),' recalls Blackwell. There was a long seat in front of the mixing desk where they used to sit.'

Hardy was, however, not the epitome of the swinging '60s idyll, she was an intellectual, into yoga and Buddhism and astrology, and she still noted French chanson singers George Brassens and Jacques Brel as favorites alongside Elvis, Dionne Warwick, and The Rolling Stones.

Despite her new links to the world of fashion, the tentative steps into film, the growing international awareness, and the attention she brought sheerly through her presence, music remained Françoise's focus, and her fourth album more than demonstrated this.

Hardy's fifth album was a collection of English-language recordings. For her next, released in October 1966, the focus was back on her home market in France, where things were changing quickly. Writing much of her own material was no longer a novelty-her future partner, Jacques Dutronc, was doing the same, and artists like Antoine were following Dylan's lead.

1966 was the year Hardy met Dylan, who demanded an audience with her at his Paris gig and later performed for her at a party. It was only later that it occurred to me that he was singing 'I Want You' because he actually wanted me,' she says. Françoise said Dylan was not part of her world. As La Maison Ou J'Ai Grandi proved, Hardy's world was perfect and fleshed out and set-five albums in, she had a sound, mood, and feel all her own.

Recorded in London, the hit "La Maison Ou J'Ai Grandi" solidified what Hardy did best: marrying French chanson songs to epic production influenced by Phil Spector, Dusty Springfield, and George Martin, the toweringly powerful "Je Changerais D'avis," which opens the LP, is a prime example.

Though Hardy had formed a strong working relationship with producer Chris Blackwell, nine of the twelve tracks were arranged by Johnny Harris, known for his work with Petula Clark and Tom Jones. Although the artist and language were French, the album drew from an internationalist, polyglot world-six tracks were penned by Hardy, the remainder cherry-picked from French, British, and Italian songwriters.

And despite its varied sources, the album was a cogent artistic statement. Françoise had returned to acoustic sounds like with her earliest songs, accompanying herself on a Spanish guitar, and was reasserting her own vision of her music.

It's been exactly 20 years since the first SUICIDE COMMANDO album "Critical Stage" was released on the German Off Beat label.
It was the promising start of a long and ultimatily succesful career and today SUICIDE COMMANDO can be easily described as on of THE leading harsh electro acts in the alternative scene.
What some of you might not know is that Johan Van Roy still released 9 (!) tapes before releasing his debut album in 1994.
"Electro Convulsion Therapy" was the last and without any doubt the most succesfull tape released in 1993. It already contained the original 4 track recordings of later clubhits like "Traumatize", "Necrophilia" or "Time", but also featured other pearls like "Close Your Eyes", "Sheer Horror" or "How It Feels".
"Electro Convulsion Therapy" holds the complete last tape on lp, but also contains a selection of the best songs from the other early tapes released between 1988 and 1992, including several rare songs and even one previously unreleased song as a bonus on the free included cd version , all remastered by Eric Van Wonterghem at Prodam Berlin 2015.

An unknown pleasure torn out of Manchester's lost DIY manual, this overqualified/underexposed post-punk pop pillar cast an almost invisible undetected web across the history of Manchester's inner-city music scene which has trapped body parts of The Mothmen, Martin Hannett, Gerry And The Holograms, John Cooper Clarke, The Blue Orchids, Naffi Sandwich (The Naffis) and The Fates in its glue.
As a central mast to 1970s/80s Manchester's deserted' DIY era, spanning angular jazz funk, punk and sarcastic synth pop, Spider King has also played huge parts in Manchester's honorary adoption of The Velvet Underground's Nico (as her lead guitarist), fronted Martin Hannett's first ever band and inhabits a key roll in the careers of Sad Cafe, Alberto y Lost Trios Paranoias, Paul Young and AC/DC's Mancunian debut. With dozens of self-penned songs, unreleased demos and two of the best collectable Manc punk funk 45s to grace collectors want lists it's almost unbelievable (almost tragic) that Mike King never released a full length album... until now.

Shot To Pieces is one of the most elusive jagged pieces of the North West's punk funk puzzle. Recorded sporadically between 1979 and 1983 with a cast of characters from the Rabid/Absurd label family, such as behind the scenes synth wielder John Scott from Gerry And The Holograms, and producers like Laurie Latham (The Blockheads) it's plain to see why 2016's current music climate is the perfect time for the Spider King's lost music to resurface. Commonly recognised by stalwarts of the era's mutating punk/alt/indie genre as the one that got away', Spider King is the archetypal artist's artist as well as the outsider's outsider and the hardest working man in no-business who is now attracting a whole new audience of champions from bloggers, vinyl nerds and well respected contemporary musicians with his appearances on mix-tapes and various artist compilations. On hearing this essential release you could argue that these lost spider-grams' are more relevant now than they were when those arachnophobic A&R men shooed him away over 3 decades ago. Fodd Dod debut recording is a beautiful portrayal of disappointment - one that could be aimed at anything and could be added onto any situation or relation. Whether it is aimed at the impossible symmetry of male/female chemistry, one's own shortcomings, or the shortness of life, Fodd Dod translates to "Born Dead", the subject of the disappointment is not important - it is not why, but rather how. The six tracks that form the record offer no solution, they dont even hint at one. Track by track "Studie i Narhet, Langtan och Besvikelse" drags you further down, using simple machine drum rhythms and droney synth melodies combined with SARS signature mourns - but with enough skill and enough progression to never lose its aim, without ever becoming stagnant. What separates Varg and SARS' work as 'Fodd Dodd', from many of the "minimal synth wave" projects of the last years genre revival, is that you for once believe in the emotion being transmitted. The project, however similar in approach to other bands, current and past, does not feel forced. So even if the emotional quest of the record is to dwell in disappointment, the record as a listening experience does the exact opposite. Mannequin Records is proud to present the 12'' reissue of one of the rarest minimal synth singles ever released in UK, cradle of DIY post-punk and minimal synth bands inspired by Kraftwerk, Tangerine Dream, the early 4AD, Mute and Factory Records singles.
In 1983 the Neo Romantic BlitzKid music of synthesists John Mellor, Steve Millard and Frankie Abbot created new waves in the sedate seaside resort of Penzance Cornwall.
Dave Hastilow, a record producer, sound engineer and analogue synthesist himself who had worked for Pete Townshend of The Who became interested in their music and took them into a local recording studio installed in an old wartime bomb shelter, also playing drums on the track and crafting the sound using the natural acoustics of the concrete bunker. The result was 'Lets Get Together' and 'Memories' and he named the band Shazam.

Bob Theil's self proclaimed opus, 'Songs from the Margin' was supposed to be the follow-up album to 'So Far' which debuted in 1982. It was never put out untill now, picked up by Strawberry Rain for a 500 copy release !
The project spanned seven years with 'Fading Ways, Fadings Faces' being written as far back as 1977, and the remainder of the album being written between 1982 and 1984. Sadly this project was finished but never went as far as being released until now. The material on 'So Far' didn't translate well to the climate of the folk club scene of that time, so the Margin songs that Bob was writing at the time (along with other material) were an effort on his part to create music that reflected his admiration for the Sandy Denny/Richard Thompson area of modernized folk and rock. It was also an attempt to have material that would be more suited to performing at folk clubs. With 'So Far' being considered one of, if not the best folk records from the 80's, this is a sure buy for many collectors. Top shelf material.

Hardy, working with arranger Charles Blackwell, a former protégé of Joe Meek, set about creating a new interpretation of her glacial, existentially yearning music: part pop, part chanson, part soul music. On one hand, she was marrying yearning melodies with lyrics examining feelings of otherness. On the other, she was interpreting the music coming from Britain and America—both that of Phil Spector and country, too. Blackwell was the first arranger with whom Hardy was happy, and Mon Amie La Rose was the first album she thought of as more than an afterthought. She chose her own songs and was very in control,' says Blackwell. She was very much a perfectionist.'

Following the French success of 1962's Tous Les Garçons Et Les Filles and 1963's Le Premier Bonheur Du Jour, 1964 was the year Hardy went truly international. Having competed in the Eurovision Song Contest and acted in a Roger Vadim film, this was the year Dylan dedicated a poem to her on the sleeve of Another Side and the year she ventured to Britain to record English language songs for the first time.

Hardy's first three French EPs of the year, from which just "Pourtant Tu M'aimes" appears on Mon Amie La Rose, were largely recorded on home soil with Paris-based arranger Mickey Baker. After the third, Françoise changed tack, abandoned French studios and arrangers, and headed to London's Pye Studios. She would not record again in France until 1968, instead employing a series of British producers and musicians that even included then-studio guitarist Jimmy Page.

It was very difficult for me to convince my record company to go to London for the production because my artistic director was having lots of success with very bad arrangements,' she says dryly. Since they were having success with bad arrangements, they could continue like that.'

It was mixed in Conny Planks studio and distributed, without a label, by the duo themselves in 1978. The music owes much to the Berlin School: layered sequencer patterns, swirling chord tapestries etc Oriental elements or hints thereof add a particular charm to Baumann/Koek.

In the smoggy orange light of a new millennium, the young Deb Demure would take the bus, once a week, from his home in crumbling Hollywood to his grandmother's apartment, nestled in the pastel pristineness of Beverly Hills. During these visits, Deb couldn't help but notice the disconnect between the glow of his grandmother's temple, and the downtrodden, alienated figures that populated the seats of the mass transit that took him there. Week after week, he would observe these characters: fading B-movie starlets, leisure-suited alcoholics, aging transgender prostitutes, and forgotten civil servants. But one fateful commute home, as the twilight waned to the purple Los Angeles night, he realized these figures were not as lost as they appeared - there was a nobility in their failure, reflective of the dignity of the city's vanishing golden era. They were survivors, in need of a voice: a spokesperson for every color of hope and hopelessness, transcendent of gender and time; Drab Majesty became Deb's musical podium for this undertaking. 

Raised in a music-centric household, Deb would find the time to teach himself to play his father's right-handed guitar upside down and left-handed; an unorthodox fashion from where his earliest understanding of chords and harmony were conceived. Exploring the bins of discarded vinyl in his neighborhood thrift stores, his toolkit expanded with the subterranean sonic gems of the recent past.

Influences range from the virtuosic arpeggiated guitar work of Felt's Maurice Deebank and the grittier pop progressions of Red Lorry Yellow Lorry's Chris Reed as well as Steve Severin from Siouxsie and The Banshees. He also studied the harmonic oscillations and utilization of the occult power of vibratory frequency present in New Age sounds of Greek artist, IASOS. In terms of orchestration, he consciously culls from the seaside maximalism of Martin Dupont and mechanized grooves of early Depeche Mode. Like a dualistic pendulum, his vocals swing from a preistly baritone to a choir boy's falsetto reflecting the sepulchral ambiance of church visits with his grandmother.

Currently the drummer for Los Angeles lo-fi rock ensemble Marriages and having honed an unorthodox home recording style, Deb sources his sounds from a repository of "mid-fi" synthesizers and other lesser-quality instruments. Following the release of his debut cassette EP, "UNARIAN DANCES", he also shared a split 12" with synth pop forefathers, Eleven Pond. During the Spring of 2015, Drab Majesty signed with Dais Records and released his first single, Unknown to the I, as a introduction for his first initial foray into the album format, romantically titled Careless.

Dais Records releases Drab Majesty's debut LP "Careless" on June 23, 2015. Written over the course of 2 years, "Careless" is a compendium of songs that have outlasted a malicious burglary of his studio, his struggles with substance addiction, and most recently, the death of his beloved grandmother.

Founded by Alex Eisenring in 1980, making use of synths and drum machines and driven by a freedom-seeking DIY ethos but informed by a "rock-jazz-prog-experimental" background. These 70s-born influences throw crazed funhouse mirror reflections onto later Kraftwerk, UK synth-pop, post-punk and pure pop forms. Celebrating This Heat's 40th anniversary in 2016, Modern Classics Recordings will re-issue the band's catalog - 1979's This Heat, 1980's Health and Efficiency, and 1981's Deceit - with full co-operation of surviving members Charles Bullen and Charles Hayward. Four decades on, the tireless efforts of This Heat's process can once again be a revelation for new audiences.
Isn't it so often the case that the most innovative works of art - the ones that break the ground where others follow - are the ones that seem to reach only the ears of those who take those ideas and run with them

So it is with This Heat and their eponymous debut album frequently referred to as 'blue and yellow' for its ultra-minimal jacket. Within its 48 minute run time, the seeds of post-punk, avant rock, noise rock and post-rock can be found.

Formed in Brixton, a multicultural, and - at the time - down-at-heel part of south London, This Heat were born into a music scene in rapid flux, first thanks to the punk explosion and then via new wave and its myriad offshoots into pop, rock and art-rock. But while many sought to apply punk attitude to chart-friendly sounds, This Heat were concocting some of the most experimental ideas ever committed to tape, taking influence from musique concrète, krautrock, the burgeoning industrial scene and even the dub reggae blasting out in their home borough.

Their debut album had - for the time and for the DIY scene - an unusually long gestation, recorded in sessions between February 1976 and September 1978 in a variety of studios including their own Cold Storage, a converted cold storage room in the Acme Studios complex. Innovating throughout, they combined loops and tape manipulation with live performance and haunting vocals to a complex, dissonant whole. The band recorded everything they ever did - including gigs - and tracks such as Water' were entirely improvised in the studio.

Given the difficult, abrasive, and involved nature of their sound, This Heat never found anything approaching mainstream success, but patronage by the influential Radio 1 DJ John Peel meant they reached a national audience - whether that audience was ready for them or not.

With their debut album and follow-up maxi single Health and Efficiency, This Heat sowed the seeds of post-punk, avant rock, noise rock and post-rock, placing the trio - Charles Bullen, Charles Hayward and Gareth Williams - at the forefront of experimental music.

However, 1981's Deceit is the one that truly deserves its reputation as a classic of the post-punk era, tying up the myriad threads of their work so far and adding accessibility and melody to the still furiously forward-thinking sound.

Recorded in a variety of studios including the band's own Cold Storage, the 11 tracks put a sense of social anxiety and global paranoia to the fore. Some lyrics were "harvested" from TV commercials ( Sleep'), others described the curtain-twitching of surveillance society ( Triumph'), and some were screamed with raw, ragged abandon, like on Makeshift Swahili'. Makeshift was a big learning situation for me," says Hayward. "I learned to let go with my voice, to release the energy that each song required, no matter where that might lead. The song, about the collapse of language, was central to the Deceit idea."

Musical innovations abound too - drum tracks were recycled from other recordings, albeit in manipulated and mutated form, and Independence' reverses the melody of earlier track Fall Of Saigon'. It's an album whose themes and sounds unfurl before the listener, the mood of edgy, pre-apocalyptic tension growing throughout. Says Hayward: "I still think of this record as a dream within a dream."

This Heat split a year after the release, with Bullen and Hayward completing the final tour without Williams. Hayward went on to form Camberwell Now and Bullen recorded as Lifetones. A tentative 2001 reunion came, tragically, too late - Williams died of cancer within a month of them meeting to rehearse.

Celebrating This Heat's 40th anniversary in 2016, Modern Classics Recordings will re-issue the band's catalog - 1979's This Heat, 1980's Health and Efficiency, and 1981's Deceit - with full co-operation of surviving members Charles Bullen and Charles Hayward. Four decades on, the tireless efforts of This Heat's process can once again be a revelation for new audiences.
Bridging the gap between the debut and their masterpiece, Deceit, the 1980 release found the band settling into a groove at their studio, Cold Storage.

With their self-titled debut, This Heat sowed the seeds of post-punk, avant rock, noise rock and post-rock. The album took the trio - Charles Bullen, Charles Hayward and Gareth Williams - two years to create, and placed them at the forefront of experimental music. The follow-up, the 20-minute Health and Efficiency, proved to be a less labored - and more conventional - record to make.

The eight-minute title track, remembers Charles Hayward, "was improvised pretty much fully-formed," and included the sound of the neighboring school's playground and the band rolling bottles around in the gallery space next to their studio. That's where they found the maxi-single's sleeve too - Pete Cobb's blue and white image was on display in the same gallery. As Charles Hayward notes: "Everything seemed to fall into place."

On the B-side, the drone for Graphic/Varispeed' came from the song "24 Track Loop" on the first album, albeit manipulated, slowed down and sped up. "In the process, we realized that we liked the morphing of the sound from one state to another as the vari-speed combed the sound across the equalization, like a microscope. So we recorded the process itself, which is what you hear here," says Hayward. The intention was for the single to be able to be played at 33, 45 or 78 RPM - which you're welcome to do with this reissue, too.

Cult Club is the musical project of Berlin artists Sally Jørgensen and László Antal. It was formed shortly after Sally and László realized that they could no longer spend their days draped over the couch drinking Pálinka and listening to "Axel F" on repeat. They then decided to put to use their god's gift of talent they so uniquely acquired, and formed Cult Club.
Their interest in melodic oldies songs and electro pop singles became the driving influence for their musical collaboration. They wanted to create a sound that made the people as mad and wild on the dance floor just as it did for the neighbours who couldn't stand listening to Sally and László s music blaring in the apartment complex.
Having a mirrored background in the arts, design, film and performance world, Sally and László decided to create a collaborative project that combined their musical and artistic backgrounds into one. DIY art films and electro pop is the by-product.
Edition of 350 units. Includes an insert with lyrics and additional information. Hand-printed with letterpress.

Stone Roses - Second Pressing

Despite clocking in at less than fifty minutes long, it's a record that shaped the next two-and-a-half decades of British music.

Released in 1989, The Stone Roses was a fusion of rock music and the nascent rave scene in the group's native Manchester. For a period of a few years, the industrial English city that gave us Joy Division, The Fall, and The Smiths was home to a drug-fuelled, club-based scene that earned the town a new nickname-Madchester. Falling squarely in that point of transition, The Stone Roses created guitar music that made people dance, fostering the baggy scene that paved the way to Britpop and Manchester's next mega band, Oasis.

The Stone Roses were the full package: they had the tough demeanor and insular mentality of any group of friends from a rugged city, they had a unique look comprised of bucket hats, Adidas sportswear, baggy jeans, and oversized T-shirts, and they talked a mean fight in interviews. But musically they were groaning with talent-Gary 'Mani' Mounfied (bass) and Alan 'Reni' Wren (drums) made complex rhythms seem effortless, guitarist John Squire could give his beloved Jimmy Page a run for his money, and frontman Ian Brown balanced punk sensibility and hippy mentality.

In the UK, the album is the stuff of legend, its cover still seen on T-shirts in any given gig venue. Around the world, its influence was less tangible, most likely due to the fact that the group was hamstrung by a legal wrangle with the Silvertone label following the album's release.

Musically, it's a mix of the grandiose and the intimate, containing songs so forceful and emotive they've become terrace anthems ( This Is The One' is Manchester United's walk-on music) alongside introspective tracks like the anti-monarchy madrigal "Elizabeth My Dear.' In Waterfall,' there are cascading guitar lines that describe its title like musical onomatopoeia, and in Made Of Stone' and She Bangs The Drum,' there are perfect pop songs too. Most significantly, there are songs in which the band etch their own myth in earth-rumbling basslines and grandiose statements: I Wanna Be Adored,' which opens the album, and I Am The Resurrection,' which closes.

After 1979's Press Color - reissued by Light In The Attic - Lizzy Mercier Descloux went tropical. Mambo Nassau, released in 1981 on Philips Records, saw the vagabond Parisian poet, artist and musician decamp from New York to the Bahamas with her manager and sometime lover, Michel Esteban.

The effect on her music was not as expected. Press Color had been an album of dissonant, distorted disco influenced by the New York no wave scene, but Chris Blackwell's Compass Point Studios provided a hermetically sealed environment into which the island's relaxed atmosphere did not seep. Instead, music from within those four walls - made by Tom Tom Club and Grace Jones - had the effect of a feedback loop. The album, meanwhile, reflected the growing confidence of Descloux as a musician, an increasing interest in African music and the input of two new collaborators: synthesizer innovator Wally Badarou and Jamaican engineer Steve Stanley, the album's de facto producer.

'Since 1975, we had spent seven years in New York and it felt like the end of a cycle,' says Esteban, who co-founded ZE Records, on which label Descloux's first album was released. 'We wanted to get out of Manhattan and move towards Africa. We needed new adventures and change. Mambo Nassau was our next stage.'

Mambo Nassau's skip through styles is like a tour of Lizzy's musical DNA, embracing not just mutant funk, disco and punk but a pastiche of Bavarian oompa music ('Milk Sheik') and even cocktail jazz chanson ('Les Baisers D'Amants"), a duet with DJ Philippe Krootchey.

Mambo Nassau did speak to the mavericks enamored of Lizzy's free spirit but it did not sell well. "We never were commercial," notes Esteban. The album is presented now with bonus tracks including "Mister Soweto", "Corpo Molli Pau Duro" and a cover of Bob Marley's 'Sun Is Shining', all of which were intended to help score a record deal that would allow her to record in Soweto, South Africa. It worked. With the follow-up, Zulu Rock, on the horizon, Descloux's African adventure was only just beginning...

Influenced by Tomita, Wendy Carlos, and Giorgio Moroder, Patrick crafted an electronic sound from his collection of synthesizers, percussion, modified guitars, and hand-built equipment. The listener enters a world of forbidden vices evocative of Patrick's time spent in the bathhouses of San Francisco. The songs on Muscle Up are divided into four sides, each showcasing a different facet of Cowley's work. Side one opens with an ambient journey through the Amazon. Tension builds on side two, with the instrumental demo version of the slow-chugging masterpiece "I Need Somebody To Love Tonight". On sides three and four things go interstellar with ecstatic space-funk and galactic workouts.


Featuring 75 minutes of music, this compilation contains soundtrack music from two Fox Studio films, "Muscle Up" and "School Daze", plus additional songs from the same era, never before released on vinyl. The tapes were restored and transferred using the same speed and pitch settings, then remastered for vinyl by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley, CA.

Medical Records is celebrating it's 5 year anniversary as well as 50th release! Medical Records was founded sometime in 2007/2008 but released it's first double header of reissues in May 2010 with the (at the time) little known Deutsche Wertarbeit (MR-001) and the first album by famed Italo/synthpop guru Alexander Robotnick (MR-002). Since the beginning, Medical has pledged to bring back long out of print and lost new wave, synth, and disco LPs from the 70s and 80s. With an emphasis on high quality heavy vinyl (with a dizzying array of colored wax), these essential records have been made available again at a reasonable price for collectors and new fans to cherish once again. Over time, we expanded our palette to include new artists with a similar aesthetic to our vision as well as crucial 90s reissues in the shoegaze and other unclassifiable genres. With collaborations with Crispy Nuggets, Light In The Attic, and Portland's 2010 Records, the back catalog of releases have spanned much ground. For this 50th release (MR-050), we have chosen to release our first retrospective with a twist. This double LP features a hand-picked selection of tracks intended to highlight our past reissues on the first 3 sides. Featuring such standouts as Lou Champagne System, Tony Carey, Gay Cat Park, and many more, it is a very nice representative collection. When Walking in the Night' by Giusy Dej was first discovered as an incomplete track on the rare 'A Touch of Class' compilation, many italo fans were really surprised when it was later found as a single. And that the b-side Follow Me' was also great!
Both tracks represent the perfect mix of dark italo-disco and minimal-synth elements with raw lo-fi production. Without a doubt one of the most cult and sought-after discoveries in recent years. House Of Black Lanterns - Leather Jacket Love Stories

Completing a brand new trio of EPs, fledgling Creme Organization off shoot Jericho now looks to HoBl for four fresh tracks. HoBl is a Houndstooth related producer who also records as King Cannibal and has already played at fabric, so is sure to go on to even bigger things once the world hears this fine new EP. First up is 'Cold (This City)' which is a chilly bit of techno futurism with weird vocals panning around icy synth lines and reflective metal surfaces. It is dramatic and large in scale as it unfolds with you right at the centre of the unsettling world. 'Deep Devotion' is then a compelling ambient cut with the distant crackle of white noise, afro-vocals and spare drum hits all making for an absorbing bit of ambience that sweeps, sweeps and swoons at a super slo-mo pace. 'Midnight Caller' is a more electro focussed jam with thick synths, crisp pinging drums and more background ambience that is dark and foreboding, whilst final cut 'A Girl Called Pity' is another free roaming electro jam with pain in its synths, paranoia in its atmospheres and funk in its drums. This is truly otherworldly music transmitted from a failed galaxy far off into deepest darkest space.

Ssleeping Desiress - Ssleeping Desiress

Coldwave / darkwave debut album by San Francisco based producer Gabriel Ramos.
While the band has gone through some lineup changes Ssleeping Desiress has essentially remained the sole recorded output of Gabriel Ramos, who has been the only constant member. The album runs the boundaries between minimal synth, coldwave, and electro with lyrical themes spanning gentrification to coping with loss.

Ssleeping Desiress has certainly become a gem in the electronic underground with the only official release so far being the great "A Voice / Sister" 7inch on FlexiWave in 2012 and a handful of other songs appearing on numerous new wave compilations. The self-titled album presented here takes the project to the next level, kicking off with an echoing caterwauling drone over repetitive drums and outbursts of synths & guitars, and slowly moving towards a more darkwave sound on the second half.

Gabriel Ramos started making solo recordings while living in Portland, Oregon around 2005. He was inspired by the DIY drive of the city, hosting live shows at his house, (which frequently would consist of friends' bands from San Francisco) and his growing fascination and voracious consumption of music: "I can trace it back to the first time Spector Protector played at my house and getting a tour cassette afterwards from one of the two members, Eric Davis. That and being freshly exposed to groups like Suicide and Arthur Russell were very inspirational to begin recording music on my own, which was something I had been doing, though fairly aimlessly up to that point. In terms of sonic influences, I try and change my process as much as I can (usually through collaboration) and vary the instrumentation. My visions of songs usually end up as a clunky homage to late 70s punk rock, a marriage of dub and krautrock repetition and cavernous space.'

Flash Cero started in Madrid in 1986 and with just a Roland Juno 60, one Casio 5000, a Simmons drum machine, some effects and basic equipment they recorded a demo with 6 tracks. After a few months the band finally got a contract with a Spanish label to record and release their debut album 1988'.

27 years later this influential and cult techno-pop album is back to life. All original tracks, 6 demo tracks and some live recordings have been remastered from the original tapes and a new artwork has been created with graphic material from band private archives.

Die Form is a French post-industrial and electronic band formed in 1977. The name 'Die Form' means '(the) form/shape' in German, like the Bauhaus diary and is a play on the English homonym 'deformed' and on the French homonym 'difforme' (deformed). Die Form is the primary project of electronic musician and multimedia artist Philippe Fichot. He began by recording a number of experimental cassette releases in the late 1970s and formed the Bain Total label to release these early cassettes and various side projects including Krylon Hertz, Mental Code, Camera Obscura, Eva-Johanna Reichstag, Hurt and Fine Automatic.

In 1982 Die Form released their debut vinyl album, 'Die Puppe' in a limited edition of 1,000 copies. These are the first esoteric electronic experiments, often improvised, from what would become the sound of the project. Underlying themes of eroticism, death and other 'taboo' subjects are apparent in both the music and the album artwork, which Philippe also produces. The album was recorded with entirely analog equipment (Roland MC4 Micro-Composer, TR-808 Rhythm Composer, ARP 2600, Kawai 60F, Revox B77). Songs range from hypnotic, minimalistic proto-IDM to pure, daring experimental sound manipulation. Unable to fit into any genre, 'Die Puppe' is in a class of music all its own.


All songs have been remastered from the original master tapes for vinyl by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley. The jacket is an exact replica of the original 1982 edition designed by Philippe Fichot, with a photograph of a porcelain doll holding a syringe. Sandra Electronics - Sessions

Cassette of Sandra Electronics sessions. These are recordings based on their live sets as well as the first recordings of Sandra Electronics that were made in Birmingham during the late 1980's and 90s. The A side of the tape features reworked rehearsal takes of tracks which first appeared on the early Downwards 7"s and in 2011 were released as part of the White Savage Dance EP. They also include two versions of Her Needs, which we had released under the Sandra Plays Electronics pseudonym in March, 2013. The B side of the tape contains the original recordings from those Downwards 7"s, all made in Birmingham during the late 1980's and 90s. For the first time ever, we present to you the quintessential Sandra Electronics collection of rare outtakes and early recordings.

Smersh - Super Heavy Solid Waste

Dark Entries returns to the New Jersey basement studio to unearth another compilation cassette recordings by Smersh titled 'Super Heavy Solid Waste'. Smersh was the duo of Mike Mangino and Chris Shepard, who began making music together in the late 70s. They were uninterested in traditional notions of songwriting or live performance. Everything they needed was in Piscataway NJ: a basement full of analog gear, a Roland TR-606 (the same 'Roland' who was listed as a member of Big Black), a SH-09 (Cabaret Voltaire's favorite synth), and a TB-303 (the sound of acid house). Most Monday nights, they would write a new song from scratch. A couple hours later, the song was recorded, never to be performed again. By 1981, this dedication to spontaneous creativity had already produced countless recordings, and the duo began releasing cassettes as Smersh via their own Atlas King label. A definitive Smersh discography may not even be possible, but one lists more than 30 Atlas King cassettes. As these tapes traded their way across continents, Smersh developed a devoted following in places far beyond Piscataway, leading to releases on dozens of other labels from around the globe. Smersh's sound is a lush hybrid of techno, industrial, dance, and experimental. Sometimes easy, sometime not. Most songs revolve around driving EBM style beats, intricate industrial noise manipulation and synth melodies. The Smersh sound has so many faces it doesn't fall into any one category. For 'Super Heavy Solid Waste' we have selected 8 songs, focusing on the harder, harsher, rhythmic side of Smersh's vast discography. Spanning a ten year period, 1983-1993, this the first time all but one of these songs are appearing on vinyl. Each song has been carefully remastered. The vinyl comes housed in a sludge-infused jacket designed by Eloise Leigh, using art motifs and textures sourced from their original cassettes, as well an 11×11 offset printed insert.
