Pop & Rock Vinyl New Releases - News

Following on from the 'Damage Appreciation' EP, released in November 2015, Max Raptor now follow-up with their self-titled new album, their first on Hassle Records. Going back into Brighton Electric Studios with Jag Jago (The Ghost Of A Thousand, John Coffey), the band have produced a blistering punk-rock record, which is undoubtedly their strongest material to date.
With a host of live shows already scheduled, including the UK Scuzz tour and a European headline tour, 2016 is set to be an incredibly busy year for Max Raptor.
'Invigorating and fiercely precise EP.. accessible and incendiary, this band knows their craft perfectly' KERRANG
'Jagged, furious and fleeting songs capture shades of the depression of modern British life... a prelude to greater things' ROCK SOUND
'The most punk Max Raptor have ever been.. 'Damage Appreciation' is what we've all been waiting for.. it's going to be a hell of a year for the guys' PUNKTASTIC

For the 2nd reference we have another project from Manel Ruiz (6tma / Sistema / Medio Escínico / Factor City) and Pepe Yeti (Medio Escínico / En Penumbra), in which deliver 4 tracks of spanish EBM with high quality and rawness. Darkness, coldness and impudence that are a breath of fresh air for the national dark scene.

Formed in the wake of the recently departed Goodtime Boys, Bastions and Grappler, modern hardcore band Terrible Love are something more than the sum of their parts. Having extensively played all over the world in their previous bands, the five piece came together in 2015 to record the melodically chaotic EP 'Change Nothing'. The EP, which the band released as a free download in January, will be released on 12' (including a very special ltd variant) via Big Scary Monsters on the 22nd April.
Having decamped as far from the city as land will allow, writing sessions began in Cornwall in the spring of 2015, culminating in a five song EP, 'Change Nothing', an explosive record, which is equally melodic as it is caustic. From the urgent opening title track to the epic shimmer of 'Sparrow', the band explores everything from post-hardcore to post-punk within its 16 minutes.

With topics ranging from personal loss, urban gentrification, cultural homogenisation to this generation's sense of ennui, the EP gives a cathartic voice to frustrations that are all too common in recent years.
Alongside their debut shows with Jungbluth in February the band has just announced they'll be heading out on three dates with the awesome Sheffield five piece Rolo Tomassi in April.
A blistering emotional assault, there's a fury to 'Change Nothing' that harnesses all the frustration that remaining undercover so long garnered and sets it ablaze - DIY MAG
What do you get when you chuck current and former members of FFAF, Bastions, Grappler and Crocus into a room together The answer, of course, is something quite brilliant, in this case the ferociously confrontational Terrible Love - ROCK SOUND

Some of the best thrills of the Internet music revolution is the ability to find extremely rare music with great ease. But even with such vast archives to draw from, quite a lot of great songs have gone undiscovered for nearly half a century — particularly in genres that lacked hifalutin arty pretense. Previously, only the most extremely dedicated and passionate record collectors had the stamina and prowess to hunt down long forgotten wonders in dusty record bins - often hoarding them in private collections, or selling at ridiculous collector's prices. Legendary compilations like Nuggets, Pebbles, ad nauseum, have exhausted the mines of early garage rock and proto-punk, keeping alive a large cross-section of underground ephemera. However, few have delved into and expertly archived the wealth of proto-metal, pre-stoner rock tracks collected on Brown Acid: The Second Trip.
Lance Barresi, co-owner of L.A./Chicago retailer Permanent Records has shown incredible persistence in tracking down a stellar collection of rare singles from the 60s and 70s for the growing compilation series. Partnered with Daniel Hall of RidingEasy Records, the two have assembled a selection of songs that's hard to believe have remained unheard for so long.
I essentially go through hell and high water just to find these records,' Barresi says. Once I find a record worthy of tracking, I begin the (sometimes) extremely arduous process of contacting the band members and encouraging them to take part. Daniel and I agree that licensing all the tracks we're using for Brown Acid is best for everyone involved,' rather than simply bootlegging the tracks. When all of the bands and labels haven't existed for 30-40 years or more, tracking down the creators gives all of these tunes a real second chance at success.
There's a long list of songs that we'd love to include,' Barresi says. But we just can't track the bands down. I like the idea that Brown Acid is getting so much attention, so people might reach out to us.'
One song on The Second Trip actually never even saw light of day, until now. Bell Park Loon' by Spiny Norman - sounding like Jethro Tull on more acid and heavier cider - languished in a collector's archives, unreleased for 38 years until Barresi and Hall arranged to license some of the collector's goldmine.
Brown Acid: The Second Trip opens with the squealing guitar harmonies and Sabbath plod of Ash's Midnight Wish.' Sweet Crystal's Warlords' is a fuzzy and fierce Deep Purple/Arthur Brown inspired organ-led anthem. Raving Maniac's 'Rock and Roll Man' is a tight and brash glam-meets-metal tune proving the true potential of a genre later squandered on Sunset Strip poodleheads. Silence of the Morning' by Glass Sun serves grungy psych while the Volt Rush Band merges MC5 frantic energy with razor-sharp guitar leads. And, Iron Knowledge's aptly titled Show Stopper' features a breakbeat and incredibly infectious detuned bass warble motif that DJs would kill for - had anyone been able to find the tune back in the day. Throughout, The Second Trip is yet another wall-to-wall set of blazing tracks that feels like you've uncovered a holy grail. And, in a way, you have.

God, reviews can be LOL. So we'll presume you know your own mind and taste. Let us scrub all metaphor. We'll resist comparison. Today's musical tenor overlooked, we'll refuse to dissect. Moments preferred are muted. We won't highlight respite or forgiveness. There's no considering of geographical fact. We'll shut our ears to technology.

Double CD retrospective showcase of solo work from Spanish electronic music pioneer Suso Sáiz.
Having been at the forefront of Spain's experimental music scene since the late 1970s, multi-instrumentalist Suso Sáiz formed the pivotal group Orquesta de las Nubes and studio project Música Esporádica, releasing a string of albums on Madrid's now cult label Grabaciones Accidentales, which was also home to groups such as Finis Africae, Mecánica Popular, and Ishinohana. A prolific producer, he has recorded with Spain's most singular popular musicians as well as with a number of luminary electronic and world music artists such as Steve Roach, Jorge Reyes, and Salif Keita.

'Odisea' draws material from Suso's early solo works, including music from the rare cassette-only 'Confidencias' as well as pieces from his more recent compositions, soundtrack works and previously unreleased tracks. An artist dedicated to experimentation, Suso's sparse compositions manifest a solitary and stripped back approach to making music. Fascinated by the possibilities of new technology he experimented with guitar loops, synthesizers, and drum computers creating a unique form of musical hypnotism absorbed by avant-garde / minimalist and non-Western musical influences.

The most representative figure of Spain's now cult experimental scene, Suso Sáiz remains an exploratory musician in a musical universe that knows no boundaries. 'Odisea' will be followed by a retrospective that will focus on Suso's collaborative work with Orquesta de las Nubes and Música Esporádica.

Bevor zum Jahresbeginn 2011 das Album "The Rough And Rynge" erschien, hatte Christian Kjellvander

Tennis Bafra is one of the original indie rock bands from the early nineties. The difference between them and the ones you heard of back then is that they stayed in their rehearsal space for 15 years before they started touring and releasing records. Not because they didn't want to release stuff and play live, but because their priority was always to hang out and play together. Writing loud guitar driven rock along the lines of Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr, Polvo and Mudhoney always seemed more fun then mailing record labels and concert venues. However, in 2010, Nomethod Records picked up Tennis Bafra and released their first record to the critics praise. They also toured Europe, supported Dinosaur Jr, Thurston Moore, Polvo and played the Way out West Festival.

Now they're back with their second LP, "Bummer". Some songs on 'Bummer' have parts that were written as early as 1994 when the band first started. Since it took quite some time for Tennis Bafra to release their first album in 2012 most of their songs had been forgotten over the years. A few riffs stuck with them though and some of those are to be found on this record. All songs were recorded live using nothing but guitars and drums. The world needs Tennis Bafra desperately.

unterziehen. Die Neuauflage des Debüts wird von einem Tribute-Album mit dem Titel "Give Me New Noise"
flankiert.
Principle.

Recorded live at the Bing Crosby Auditorium - of all places - on tour supporting their breakout album Siamese Dream, Billy Corgan and crew rolled into Del Mar, CA, just north of San Diego, for one of the most celebrated live shows of their early career. Drawing mostly from the aforementioned Siamese Dream along with a few songs from Gish and some classic b-sides, this is one of the definitive live sets from the Pumpkins. Essential American alternative.

Darla Records is proud to present The Best of Corky Carroll, a 19 song collection of hits and big smile-producing favorites compiled by the world's favorite surfer himself. Corky Carroll, who has been a showman since he began surfing professionally at 16, started his career playing music at 24 and retired from a career in professional surfing with the highest honors. Corky was put on salary by Hobie Surfboards in 1964 to become the first full time professional surfer. He won the first-ever cash-prize surfing event in 1965 and would go on to be a five-time US Surfing Champion 1966-70. His favorite achievement though, is winning Surfer Magazine's 1968 Surfer's Poll Award in which he was voted Best Surfer in the World by fans and peers. Corky Carroll has made a dozen or so records (so far), both self-released and with backing, beginning with the lovely Hawaiiana/Californiana/Surfiana cultural artifact, Laid Back, 1971. Corky's most popular album, A Surfer for President, 1979, promoted his "fun little campaign" for POTUS - a classic Corky lark, which resulted in "more votes than most people thought possible". The single "Tan Punks on Boards" (produced by Michael Nesmith) from A Surfer for President achieved gold record status - 500,000 units sold. The novelty single "Skateboard Bill", 1977, with awesome cover art by Rick Griffin, is simply the greatest skateboard song ever. These songs are also, of course, the shared perspective of all of us eternal surf kids who see paradise paved and share a dream about life on an empty palm-fringed beach with perfect waves and an endless summer. Corky truly is the heart and soul of good vibrations. Corky Carroll lives with his wife, Raquel, on the beach at La Saladita, Guerero, Mexico. He records at home, surfs the world-class, reverse Malibu, 100+ yard long wave in 80 degree water every day, hosts happy surfing guests at his awesome home right on the sand and writes a hugely popular, twice weekly column for the OC Register.

Formed in 1985 as one of the leading figures of the burgeoning UK grindcore scene (along with such acts as Carcass or Napalm Death), Extreme Noise Terror's popularity immediately went over the roof as they became one of the personal faves of no less than John Peel, who went on to give them three session (the first and the last of which were soon released on Strange Fruit). This legendary perfomance at the Fulham Greyhound, recorded when the band was on top of their game, shows one of most influential names in the metal and punk scene at their rawest and most ferocious. 'Bullshit Propaganda', 'Show Us You Care', Another Nail In The Coffin', are just a few of the hits captured that night on this recently exhumed recording, on vinyl for the first time in this fully-legit, remastered and beatifully packaged version.

Limited to 500 on heavyweight vinyl. Sleeve has thick, reverse-board print. NON RETURNABLE
Hot Salvation Records is proud to present the second LP from Sans Pareil, titled The Future Ooze due April 29th, 2016. This release represents a culmination of almost two years collaborative work between a small group of musicians based between North London and the south coast, with roots deep in DIY punk going back more than fifteen years. Listen to two new album tracks, '(You Give Me) The Creeps' now premiering on Noisey, plus 'Codename: Tarantula':

For ten years, Pariah, now Sans Pareil, has been Thomas Dowse and John Casey. Backed by a new, larger ensemble in 2016, Dowse's downbeat narrative and feral croons weave in and out of Casey's maniacal guitar lines, like a tweaked-out Withnail and I fronting Swans. Tales of small town desperation, crime, sleeze and poverty beat down hard; there's no sleek metropolitan romanticism of London or Manchester, this is JG Ballad, this is David Cronenberg shooting a Ken Loach script... It is Chatham at 3am, a Grimsby pub-fight on a Friday night... it is bleak, grim and writhing with the parts of life you don't want to see. The pair have spent the better part of a decade creating this 'scumbag panorama' with their own illustrations and art works (they both met at art university), designs and animations to enhance your experience.

The Future Ooze is a blackened, dystopian version of burned-out garage rock, akin to The Gun Club, Chrome, Stooges, The Sound, Velvet Underground, Early SY, and even hints at the punk snarl of Rites Of Spring or Dag Nasty. The band have cut their teeth, playing select grot-box shows with the likes of The Wytches, Taman Shud, Rot In Hell, Cosmic Thoughts and Mass Lines. This convergence of hardcore and art-rock is at the center of Dowse's performance; part Jello Biafra, part Mark E Smith, his melodrama is matched only by his wit, dry sarcasm and distaste for an increasing authoritarian state that is pressing ever heavier on those of us not fortunate enough to buy-to-let, or holiday in the sun.
Follow them down the drain.....

The Sun Comes Out Tonight beendet hatte.

Januar.

Selkirk's finest Frightened Rabbit announce their eagerly awaited fifth studio album, Painting Of A Panic Attack, due for release on 8th April via Atlantic Records. Their second major label release sees a slight reshuffle in band members and the addition of The National's Aaron Dessner on production duties. Electronic elements and frontman Scott Hutchison's dark and emotionally honest lyrics are expertly woven into the band's soaring sonic palate, resulting in a body of work that will challenge, excite and surprise longtime FR fans and new listeners alike.

Following the departure of member Gordon Skene in March 2014, the remaining four members of the band - Hutchison, his brother Grant (drums), Billy Kennedy (bass) and Andy Monaghan (guitar & keyboards) - retreated to a studio in Wales to lay the foundations of the new record. They recruited touring band member Simon Liddell (guitar/keys) as a permanent addition.

Painting Of A Panic Attack is much indebted lyrically to Los Angeles, following Scott's move from Scotland to the States in 2014 to be with his girlfriend. He quickly realised that the city just wasn't for him. Taking inspiration from what he saw, Painting is often a love/hate letter to LA. Hutchison sings of the loneliness the change instilled in him, of the disparity between the rich and the throngs of homeless in the city, and of his daily struggle with his new life and homesickness for Scotland.

During the making of the record Hutchison began to draw similarities between the record and the concept of monuments and memorials, which is reflected in the artwork - a peaceful place, a place of beauty where people go to remember and reflect on chaotic, turbulent and troubling times. The lyrics are the subject of this reflection, brutality next to beauty. Hutchison's feeling of detachment also represents a major theme throughout the record. Tracks such as 'Get Out', the lead single which chronicles an addictive and obsessive love, and 'Still Want To Be Here', telling of his constant struggle with LA, perfectly encapsulate the mind-set of the Frightened Rabbit front-man since the band's last release. The opening track from the record, 'Death Dream', an uplifting yet emotionally wrought track featuring frontman Scott Hutchison's visceral lyrics, striking a bold sonic shift for the band.

Featured on the BBC Sound of 2016 longlist, the MTV Brand New for 2016 shortlist and nominated for Best New Artist at the NME Awards, 19-year-old Rat Boy is poised to make a major breakthrough this year.

Rat Boy's fast-growing profile will be further boosted with the release of his brand new single 'MOVE' which is available now and impacts on March 4th on Parlophone. Recorded at 13 Studio, 'MOVE' finds Rat Boy resurrecting the boisterous bounce of the big beat era for the modern age, with his British Beastie Boy rap declaring Everything's free if you want it to be / Take my MP3 illegally and MOVE!'
