PopRockAlternative

Formed by guitarist/vocalist Noel Redding while he was still playing bass in a little group called The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Fat Mattress released their debut in late 1969 on Polydor. Though Noel's more famous group was known for its hard edged psychedelic rock, Fat Mattress instead opted for the breezier side of things, with a distinct West Coast folk-rock bent. Drawing comparisons to Love, The Buffalo Springfield, and The Byrds, Fat Mattress is harmony heavy and tuneful psychedelia. Though it was well received by critics at the time, sales were slow and Redding soon left the group. In the intervening years though, Fat Mattress' fantastic debut has come to be known as a lost classic of psychedelic rock and this high quality gatefold 180 gram LP reissue is a welcome relief from high priced originals. Essential for both fans of Jimi Hendrix and psychedelic folk-rock.

The Hard Working Americans do more with one moment than many artists do with an entire career, and prove it again with its latest release 'Rest In Chaos'
With the exception of Guy Clark's "The High Price of Inspiration," the 13-track album was written by the band on the road, live in six different studios.
The lead track, "Opening Statement," sets the album's gritty tone and rolls right into "It Runs Together," which describes Snider first meeting his ex-wife in recovery. "Half Ass Moses" is essentially three driving rock songs rolled into one, and the gospel-esque stomper "Throwing The Goats," blasts "we've got all the integrity that money can't buy." The album's title is nestled in "Ascending Into Madness," which Snider says is "about being an artist and coming up with new art."
It's been Snider's two-decade-plus professional proclivity to take the lyrical knife to expectation and subtly stab, then twist. On 'Rest In Chaos' Snider's knife has become a machete, with both words and voice.

John Doe's The Westerner will be released May 6th via Cool Rock Records/Thirty Tigers. Throughout his career, Doe has garnered worldwide acclaim: NPR Music describes his work as 'one of the warmest, most welcome voices in pop music. There's a beseeching quality to his singing that draws you in with curiosity,' while American Songwriter praises, '...a winning platter of '60s inspired rock with a singer-songwriter twist.' Doe calls The Westerner his 'psychedelic soul record from the Arizona desert.'
The album features ten new tracks from Doe with guest appearances from Chan Marshall of Cat Power, Debbie Harry of Blondie, Cindy Wasserman of Dead Rock West and Tom Brosseau. The Westerner was produced by Howe Gelb (Neko Case, M. Ward), Dave Way (Fiona Apple) and Doe. The album's artwork was designed by Shepard Fairey and Aaron Huey to support Native American rights via a campaign called Protect The Sacred, with additional photography by Jim Herrington.

John Doe is a founding member of the seminal L.A. punk rock band X and the country spin-off band The Knitters. Doe's solo career began with 1990's Meet John Doe, followed by Kissingsohard (1995), For the Rest of Us (1998), Freedom Is... (2000), Dim Stars Bright Sky (2002), Forever Hasn't Happened Yet (2005), For the Best of Us (extended version in 2006), A Year in the Wilderness (2007), Country Club (a collaboration with The Sadies in 2009), A Day at the Pass (a collaboration with Jill Sobule in 2011), Keeper (2011) and most recently The Best of John Doe: This Far (2015) a compilation of Doe's favourite solo recording moments.

Excellent hard progressive/psych/hard-rock monster! Akin to Nektar in many ways, but fronted by Tom McGuigan unique singing and fiery saxophone playing, Message combined the best of British heavy and progressive styles with Krautrock innovation. Their debut album from 1972 'The Dawn Anew Is Coming' is driven by the superior English language vocals of charismatic frontman Tom McGuigan and the epic electric guitar runs of Allan Murdoch. Heavy moments and light jazz/fusion flavours all feature, and like with the Moody Blues, often the lyrics (and the album title itself) seem to hint at a vague mind-expanding consciousness, giving the album a bit more weight and mystery. Track a3 & b2 are featuring Allan "Taff" Freeman from Nektar! Message incorporated elements found in the music of DEEP PURPLE, WIND, early ELOY (particularly in the guitar solos) and NEKTAR as well as hints of VAN DER GRAAF GENERATOR

V/a - Der Zeltweg

Mannequin Records

PopRock

Mannequin Records is proud to present the second volume of 'Der Zeltweg - Italian Tapes Industrial Music 1982-1984', the legendary Musumeci's tape label existed for some few years in the early 80's. Edition of 500 copies on 160 gram black vinyl. Coloured Vinyl. While the A-side is filling all the music produced by some of their side projects (Errata-S-Corrige, Gasdehyde and Herpes-Z) that we already introduced in the first volume, plus an unreleased Musumeci very early studio track 'Apologia/Musumeci', the B-side is presenting for the first time the full reissue of 'The Psychophatic Blossom - Il Fantasma della Libertà' tape (Der Zeltweg 002), an unexpected guitar-bass-noises experimental album, permeated by philosophical declamations in Italian language and short pulsating rhythmic compositions. For a brief moment Turin was Italy's Sheffield, producing an astonishing number of DIY electronic groups. In the context of a wider Europe, Italy has never been thought of as a hotbed of minimal electronic music, but Mannequin Records compilations Danza Meccanica: Italian Synth Wave 1982-1987 have shone a light on a scene little heard, even within Italy's borders. Inspecting all the bands we released in the past years, Musumeci represents one of the most rare and unknown. But..the reissue of the two super rare demo tapes that they recorded in 1985 ("Schwarz Morgen") and in 1986 ("Zusammen") and a 12'' containing a couple of unreleased tracks plus a TRAXX edit, were just the beginning. Now the mission is terminated with the 2 volumes of 'Der Zeltweg- Italian Tapes Industrial Music'.

After his adventure with My Solid Ground, Ingo Werner formed Baba Yaga. Named after the Slavic folklore character his new adventure seemed to be more a solo project (he plays electric piano, piano, mellotron, synthesizer, organ, clavinet, bassoon and gong, besides being the composer of the music), but it is made with the cooperation of other musicians - most notably Bernd Weidmann who, in addition to singing and playing bass also contibuted with some lyrics. Other musicians in the recording are Joska Fiedermutz on drums, plus Winfried Schreiber and Jürgen Dyrauf on guitars. Songs on this debut album, which was originally issued in 1974 as a very limited edition on the very small Cycle label have been compared to some UK prog-rock works like those of Cressida, Aardvark, Egg, Arzachel, Fantasy or Greenslade. As the LP plays on, echoes of the Canterbury scene can be heard through some jazzy influences, and some heavy-psych and cosmic avant-garde athmospheres created by Werner's intelligent use of synthesizers, are thrown in.

Reissued on vinyl for the first time ever, the Wah Wah edition is limited to 500 copies only - get yours before it flies!

After his adventure with My Solid Ground, Ingo Werner formed Baba Yaga. Named after the Slavic folklore character his new adventure seemed to be more a solo project. On this second LP Ingo Werner chose to join forces with santur, sitar, tabla player Nemat Darman, an Iranian musician who also contributed congas, cymbal, gong, timpani, drums and vibraphone, and record the whole album as a duo. Werner would play EMS, Davoli and Solina-string synthesizer, clavinet, electric piano and grand piano, besides producing the whole sessions at the Dieter Dierks studio. On this second delivery, Baba Yaga offer an intriguing mixture of krautrock electronic experimentation with improvised ethnic sounds and textures, compared by some to works by Popol Vuh, Third Ear Band, Brainticket, the early Tangerine Dream, Deuter or even Between.

Conceived as a studio project and conceptually inspired by the world of sci-fi novelist Aldous Huxley, Brave New World was created by Reinhart Firchow (recorders, flutes, ocarina, Stylophone, percussion, vocals), John O'Brien-Docker (guitars, organ, percussion, vocals, wind chimes) and Herb Geller (flutes, cor anglais, saxophones, organ). They where aided by Dicky Tarrach (drums, percussion), Lucas Lindholm (bass, bass fiddle, organ, piano) and Esther Daniels (voice). Irishman John O'Brien-Docker had previously played on Die City Preachers and Marcel, and also recorded as Inga & John - Inga was, of course, Inga Rumpf of Frumpy fame. He also played with Dagmar Krause and Anthony Moore, who would later be known as Slap Happy. Reinhart Firchow had also been around for a while and would later form Kaarst. Herb Geller was an accomplished jazz musician who had been playing and recording in several jazz outfits since 1954. Their album, originally released on Vertigo in 1972, featured an eclectic mixture of styles, blending medieval music, folk, electronics, jazz and rock in pure krautrock eclectic lore in the line of Annexus Quam, Achim Reichel or Tomorrow's Gift.

First ever reissue, housed in a glossy laminated gatefold cover reproducing the phenomenal original artwork and an insert with notes, and it's limited to only 500 copies!

Jou Cogra's rare 45 and LPs have been the object of desire for a long time among collectors. Born Josep Cortés Granero, this catalan musician moved freely from tropical / latin sounds to Hammond fueled rare grooves with influences of masters of those genre from Pérez Prado to Jimmy Smith or Brian Auger. His first LP was a collection of popular latin tunes, rooted in his earlier work with latin orchestras. He then moved to the underground, releasing a mega rare privately pressed 4 songs EP on which he introduced funkier psychedelic rhythms, Perez Prado was leaving room for a Jimmy Smith / Brian Auger Hammond based club oriented sound. His second LP was a strange mixture of styles, some lame tracks mixed with groovy instrumentals worth of any dancefloor.

This compilation is a selection of the grooviest tracks from his discography, including his most Hammon-ized floor fillers and an astonishing latin version of 'Lupita'. Mostly issued originally on private pressings or limited run editions on small labels between 1971 and 1976.

500 copies only, comes with remastered sound worked from the original master tapes.

Mac Arthur - Mac Arthur
OSR044
OUT-SIDER MUSIC
12inch15.05.201615.MAY.16

PopRock

MacArthur were formed when a young guitar player and songwriter named Ben MacArthur met a 17-yeard old prodigy musician called Bill Heffelfinger in Saginaw, Michigan, in 1978. Bill was not only a gifted guitar player but also a genius arranger and keyboard wizard. When Ben showed him some of the stuff he had written, Bill took the songs and transformed them into classic pieces of music. They soon recruited Jeff Bauer on bass and Scott Stockford on drums. The chemistry of MacArthur was born.

The first MacArthur album, known in collector's circles as 'The Black Forest' due to the vinyl bootleg of the same title released in the 80s, was recorded in 1979 using a four-track machine. Produced by Bill Heffelfinger, 'MacArthur' is a progressive / psychedelic concept album highlighted by devastating, ripping fuzz guitar solos and Mini-Moog / synths attacks.

Due to the lack of funds, the album was originally issued by the band in a primitive hand-made sleeve with just a sticker on front and a paper sheet with the credits glued on back. For this, the first ever legit reissue, we've done a printed sleeve with embossed letters on front, as the band originally intended. Note: CD comes in standard jewelcase without embossed cover.

First ever legit vinyl reissue with original artwork

Munehiro Narita, the original 'psychedelic speed freak', is for many people the undisputed king of acid-fuzz guitar.

In active since the late 70s, Narita is a Japanese psychedelic underground legend. After playing in cult bands like Kyoaku no Intention, he founded the brutal heavy-psych power trio High Rise in the 80s. His furious guitar playing, which involves lethal doses of fuzz-wah at ear-splitting volume, can also be heard on his current band Green Flames (featuring Mitsuru Tabata from Acid Mothers Temple).

In 2014 Narita released a Japanese only CD titled 'Psyche De Loid', doing heavy guitar fuzzed-out covers of classic psych songs from the 60s/70s. But 'Psyche De Loid' was also the first ever psychedelic album recorded using the Vocaloid technology. Very popular in Japan, Vocaloid is a software / singing synthesizer: you enter the lyrics of a song into the program, add music, and then you can have one of the Vocaloids - or 'Vocal Androids', mostly female - sing for you in a bizarre 'android' type vocals.

'Vocaloid' is often associated with J-Pop but on 'Psyche De Loid' Narita smash this 'genre' into a wall with the contrast of killer, Ron Asheton-alike piercing fuzz-wah guitar and child-like 'android' vocals, featuring surreal covers of tracks by Stooges, Hendrix, Blue Cheer, Shocking Blue, Pink Floyd, MC5, Jefferson Airplane...

Previously available as a Japanese only CD, here's the first ever vinyl edition with new artwork.

'One of the finest acid-punk shredders to ever walk the planet, Munehiro Narita gives these time-honored psych rock classics a serious kick in the ass, in the most bizarre and Japanese of musical settings" - Steve Krakow (Galactic Zoo)

'Munehiro Narita (High Rise et al) bleeds all over a series of massively re-wired cover versions of classic psych while computer generated little girl vocals relocate the whole damn thing in another future altogether.' - David Keenan (Wire, Volcanic Tongue)

Born in 1940 in Berlin, Ralf Nowy's musical interest was first exposed to an audience during his school years, when he formed his first rock'n'roll band in the late fifties. After graduation from the Konservatorium, he joined the German jazz scene and also worked for the Saaerland radio station. His recording career began recording exploitation albums designed for dance parties, following the path opened in Germany by artists like Paul Nero (a.k.a. Klaus Doldinger). But with the rise of the krautrock scene he became interested in new, more experimental sounds and joined forces with Paul Vincent (who had played in Klaus Doldinger's Motherhood, from which he would go on to form Hallellujah) and Keith Forsey (also from Hallellujah) - the three, under the name The Ralf Nowy Group, became on of the hottest acts of the Munich scene.Lucifer's Deram was issued on Global in 1973 and offered an interesting mixture of instrumental sounds which moved freely from psychedelic pop to jazz, progressive rock, and ethnic touches... even some funky guitar is present! In addition to Ralf Nowy (flutes, alto saxophone, oboe), Paul Vincent (guitars) and Keith Forsey (drums) the recording sessions counted on the faboulous work of Al Gromer (Amon Düül, Popol Vuh, etc.) and Liz van Nienhoff on sitar, Gary Unwin and Lothar Meid on bass, Sylvester Levay and Don Anderson on pianos, Andy Marx on guitar, Bernie Prock on percussion and Sankha Chatterjee on tablas. Ultra-rare recordings by 70s UK avant-rockers Red Square, the missing link between original free-noise practitioners like AMM, Nihilist Spasm Band and Peter Brotzmann and post-No Wavers ala the Blue Humans, Borbetomagus, Fushitsusha, and the Dead C.

Named after the early Soviets Constructivists, Red Square is a pioneering free-improvising, avant-rock band. They bridged the worlds of psychedelic rock, noise and avant-jazz, and many of the techniques and approaches to music that they helped to pioneer have become common practice today. Pre-dating Sonic Youth by seven years, Last Exit by a decade and Matt Gustafsson's The Thing by twenty five, their railing aural assaults were once considered too extreme for commercial release.

Formed in Southend-On-Sea in 1974 by guitar player Ian Staples (fresh from gigging at the Middle Earth club with Ginger Johnson's African Drummers, sharing stage with Pink Floyd and Marc Bolan among others), bass clarinet / sax player Jon Seagroatt and free-jazz drummer Roger Telford, their unusual sound was an amalgam of jazz, improv and avant-rock, fuelled by the loud electric guitar of Ian Staples, whose style has been described as a 'revolutionary blend of Hendrix and Beefheart, with the sonic palettes of Derek Bailey and Stockhausen'. Ian's atonal guitar riffs referenced metal without ever becoming metal.

Red Square shared stages with Henry Cow, Lox Coxhill, David Toop and National Health and they were also involved with Music For Socialism. But their extreme sound and attitude were too much for both audience and record companies. The band imploded in 1978 with only two ultra-rare private cassettes releases as their only legacy. In 2008, they reformed again and they're still playing and recording to this date.

'Rare and Lost 70s Recordings' includes a complete never-before-heard heavy studio session from 1978 plus a thunderous live set opening for fellow "rock in opposition" mavens Henry Cow, recorded with perfect sound quality in 1976.

Remastered by original member Jon Seagroatt (currently playing / touring with 70s pagan-folk gods Comus and Current 93.)

Insert with liner notes and photos.

A constant kick of adrenaline since my teenage years. Why this was only issued on CD, we just can't explain. Up there with the Cynics, the Chesterfield Kings, the Creeps, Fuzztones and all those that built up the 60s revival scene back in the day.

We're pleased to bring you the long overdue vinyl version of the album, 23 years later. We've had the audio professionally restored, correcting whatever catastrophe happened during the original mix, which means you can finally listen to the bass for the first time ever.

Limited to 600 copies, professionally restored audio, and artwork faithful to the original CD issue, with informative insert.

UK psychedelia moved into prog rock with spices of hard rock in the late sixties, some even coined a new label to describe the strong textures resulting of the mixture of rockier blues sounds, jazz, revolutionized freakbeat and the hardest side of popsike - 'heavy psych'. Amongst the best works of the era were the two splendid LPs recorded by Welsh band Eyes Of Blue.

The Eyes Of Blue where formed in 1966 and soon won the Melody Maker Beat Contest, a fact that secured them a recording deal with Deram records. The label issued their first 45s, they were good but -due to company pressure- more Blue Eyed Soul or even bubblegum oriented. By the time they released their first LP, on Mercury, their real sound had surfaced, showing influences by some of the coolest bands from the US West Coast like The Doors or Love, and also counted on the help of Graham Bond, who penned some of the most significant tunes on the album. Heavily Hammond organ driven athmospheres taking things one step further than The Nice, guitar pyrotechnics, an excellent vocal work, some eastern influenced guitar raga, a great taste in choosing cover versions and strong songwriting make Crossroads Of Time one of the best progressive LPs from 1968.

First ever legit vinyl reissue, in a limited run of only 500 copies, in remastered sound and featuring an insert with photos and liner notes.

Rare, sought after exploitation album from 1967 showcasing the garage-turns-to-psychedelia sound of the era. Fuzz and acid, no need for flowers - but bring them along if you feel like it! Opening with an outtasite fuzz drenched cover of the Count V timeless punk anthem Psychotic Reaction, this LP takes us on a fuzzier than fuzz trip through some of the classics of the era like The Blues Magoos' (We Ain't Got) Nothin' Yet, The Isley Brothers' Shout, John D. Loudemilk's Tobacco Road and Bobby Bland's Turn Of Your Love Light, plus -hey!- five original tracks in the same style signed by Merk Currie - the LP was originally released on Mercury, "Merk Currie" was nost probably the name invented by the company to scam of writting credits from the members of this mystery band, probably paid just for the sessions. The playing though all the sessions is outstanding, putting this mysterious album up there with the best of the genre, an LP wich stands halfway the covers concept of Psychotic Reaction by The Fire Escape and the delivery of interesting original material of Psychedelic Moods by The Deep.

Debut album by outstanding psych outfit from Israel — TREE formed out in the countryside, growing up in a Kibbutz. Drinking directly from the magic potion of the 60s US West Coast without forgetting their Middle Eastern roots, TREE move crowds in their native land where they've supported legends by the likes of Ray Manzarek of The Doors or Can's Damo Suzuki.
TREE came to life in 2005, as four young musicians gathered up from the
Israeli country side, growing up in a Kibbutz, TREE started its way as a mostly jam based band, gathering more original materials and still holding to the that spirit, thus presenting the group you'll hear & see today. 2005 was a while ago, TREE has rooted itself widely through Israel, also making it's way overseas, their powerful sound and live performances gave the band the status of a rock movement with Deep Musical roots. TREE is a familiar Sound, with a new artistic statement.
TREE has set a reputation of never playing the same show twice, with their ever-growing circle of followers attending to every performance, the crowd knows to expect the unexpected.

LP first pressing limited to 600 hand-numbered copies, with gimmick triple-foldout poster cover, with removable OBI as part of the artwork and an embedded tree leaf from TREE's very own garden (and yes, that's a REAL leaf). Artwork by psychedelic artist Kiryk Drewinski

Liverpool is Frankie Goes to Hollywood's second and last studio album, released in October 1986. It would be the band's final album of all-new material, and lead singer Holly Johnson would leave the band following the corresponding world tour.

The album's production was handled by Trevor Horn's engineer Stephen Lipson, who urged the band to play their own instruments on this album (Horn having replaced the band's performances and arrangements with his session musicians or his own performances on Welcome To The Pleasuredome [MOVLP116]).

Liverpool is generally regarded as having a heavier Rock
sound than Welcome To The Pleasuredome.
The album charted at #5 in the United Kingdom, #7 on the
Austrian and Swiss music charts and #8 in Norway.

The music on the album is fast and macabre. The Murderdolls draw inspiration from movies such as Friday the 13th, Night of the Living Dead, and Phantasm. The 15 tracks are full of tongue-in-cheek horror clichés.

Nailbomb - Pointblank
MOVLP1629

12inch01.05.201601.MAY.16

PopRock

Nailbomb was a side project by Sepultura's Max Cavalera and producer/engineer Alex Newport in the mid-1990s. Point Blank is their only studio album, originally released in 1994 by Roadrunner Records. The album combines the thrash- metal fury of Sepultura with the robotic industrial clangor of Fudge Tunnel - a big hit on the festival scene at the time.

Nearly the entire Sepultura lineup is present on the guest list - both Andreas Kisser and Igor Cavalera are credited. Also Dino Cazares of Fear Factory and Ritchie Bujnowski from Wicked Death are featured on the album. The first track 'Wasting Away', appears in the 1995 film To Die For. 'Exploitation' is a cover originally by the English crust punk band Doom.

Relentless grinding riffs, and an industrial-strength percussive roar, the lyrics are uniformly nihilistic and the album is riddled with left-field samples that add a disorienting, dehumanizing texture. This is an ass-kicking album, that is full-on malevolent from the get-go. Point Blank is abrasive, in your face, and loud as hell with the lid off.

While the instrumental Fourth had forayed deep into jazz-rock territory, Fifth found Soft Machine working almost completely in the jazz idiom.

As Soft Machine moved further away from rock on Third [MOVLP183] and Fourth [MOVLP1602], drummer/vocalist Robert Wyatt's dissatisfaction with the band's direction grew and, by the time sessions started for Fifth in late 1971, he had left permanently to form Matching Mole.

Wyatt's replacement Phil Howard's propulsive rhythms make a vital contribution to memorable Ratledge compositions like 'All White' and 'Drop' as they gather momentum and coalesce into driving grooves. 'All White' is focused largely on Elton Dean's sax performance while 'Drop' ultimately showcases the intense busy fuzz of Ratledge's organ.

This is essentially a jazz record, more concerned with texture and interplay than with song-based structures. It's a trip.

Von Spar - Streetlife
TAR060LP
Tin Angel
12inch02.05.201602.MAY.16

PopRockPunk

Precarious bon vivants, gifted musicians, radical guys - VON SPAR are many things,

but above all, they are one of the most amazing bands in the realms that the

British music press once baptized as Krautrock.

Sebastian Blume, Jan Philipp Janzen, Christopher Marquez and Phillip Tielsch have in past been praised even more than the revenants of the genre (in 2012, together with Stephen Malkmus, before the watering eyes of CAN founding members Irmin Schmidt and Jaki Liebezeit, they provided a reinterpretation of the album "Ege Bamyasi" at the Cologne Weekend Festival) - even if the four were inspired equally by techno, synthpop, noise, post- punk and new music.

"The concept of the collective VON SPAR seems to be to torpedo listeners' expectations from album to album," wrote the German newspaper TAZ about their last album "Foreigner". And once again, much is new on "Streetlife". Four of the eight pieces were recorded with the Canadian singer Chris Cummings, aka Marker Starling (formerly Mantler), whose fragile voice at moments recalls that of the great communist and musician Robert Wyatt.

Other pieces feature the voice of Ada (Pampa Records) and of Scout Niblett (Drag City), for whom Jan Philipp Janzen has played drums on various tours (as he has for the likes of Owen Pallett and The Field).

"Streetlife" has emerged as a heterogeneous album ranging from melodic piano disco ("Chain Of Command"), to tripped out soundscapes ("Hearts Fear"), to grandiose soft rock ("Try Though We Might"). One might call it music for a better world, if that didn't sound so lofty. Yet VON SPAR are not at all lofty, they are wide awake. This is not escapism, but life in the streets. And that's how they live it.

Shake Some Action was the fifth album, originally released in 1976, by the legendary San Francisco band Flamin' Groovies. Recorded in Great Britain and produced by Dave Edmunds, Shake Some Action marked a departure for the group from the blues based / garage rock sound of the earlier records to a more power pop / British invasion direction. This was due to the departure of lead singer Roy Loney, the ascendance of guitarist Cyril Jordan, and the fact that the band moved to England in 1972 and was building a large following there. A certified power pop classic brought to you by 4 Men With Beards on red vinyl.

What makes a record a true cult classic First, it must be released to a modicum of critical acclaim but zero commercial success. Second, in almost all cases the artists behind the release have to disappear immediately into obscurity. And third, over the course of decades, a dedicated core of record collectors, critics and true believers must spread the word aboutthe album in question. Well, by those standards, New York band Hackamore Brick's 1970 LP OneKiss Leads to Another is the cult classic to end all cult classics (theonly recent contenders might be Rodriguez's albums Cold Fact and Coming from Reality). Released on the bubblegum-centric Kama Sutra label to positive reactions from critics ranging from Richard Meltzer to Lenny Kaye, One Kiss sounded very different from anything else on the label or, for that matter, anything else on the 1970 music scene; often cited as the first post-Velvet Underground album, it does indeed provoke comparison's to VU's third, self-titled record and Loaded as well as other descendants like the Modern Lovers and Television. But the country-ish harmonies of vocalists Tommy Moonlight and Chick Newman lend the record a sound not unlike any number of current alternative 'beard rock' bands plying their wares, and the discursive lyrics recall the Kinks. In short, One Kiss Leads to Another passes the fourth and hardest test of cult classic-dom, which is to remain relevant into the present, even though Moonlight and Newman didn't record another note together as Hackamore Brick until 2009. Real Gone Music is proud to present this remarkable record on both vinyl and CD, with a bonus track, the single side 'Searchin',' appearing on both formats, and two additional bonus tracks, the mono single versions of 'Radio' and 'I Watched You Rhumba,' on the CD. Liner notes by Tony Rettman featuring quotes from Tommy Moonlight and pictures from the Hackamore Brick archive round out both the vinyl and CD releases. Remastered by Vic Anesini at Battery Studios in NYC—highly anticipated and worth the wait!
