Pop & Rock Vinyl New Releases - News

12 months after impressing with their frazzled Balearic rock debut, Dinosaur
Zappa and The Visitor Paul Murphy, Alex Searle and Quinn Luke resurrect their
Paqua project for another spine-tingling trip into kaleidoscopic rock territory.
'Late Train' is a decidedly dubbed-out West Coast rock epic - two parts low-
slung dub-disco, three parts stoner rock, and four parts wide-eyed psychedelia.
It ebbs and fows over 11 undulating minutes, sounding like a long lost '70s
prog rock gem produced by the Idjut Boys. It's a bit of a stunner, all right.
'We Are What We Are' offers some respite. Fusing sparring guitars - electric
and acoustic - with a loose, baggy, organic groove, it's an effortless blast of
summer sunshine. While decidedly Balearic in nature, it owes more to classic
West Coast rock than White Isle electronica. As you'd expect from Claremont
56, it's perfectly pitched and more than a little wide-eyed.

This fantastic double header 7" single contains songs from Lou's Epic 1974 album "I'm In Need of Love", regarded by some as the best modern soul album ever made.

Lou was a Detroit artist who established himself in the 60s where he first worked as a writer and producer with Barbara Lewis. In the 70s he was signed as an artist to legendary producer Jerry Ragovoy's Rags label through Epic and these recordings have been internationally regarded by soul fans ever since.

Two years on from the release of their remarkable debut album, 'New Moon', Almunia return with a second full-length of chugging psychedelic dub disco, shimmering acoustic grooves and spine-tingling Italian Balearica. Decidedly less heady than its predecessor, 'Pulsar' impresses with its glistening guitars, touchy-feely textures, ocean-blue chords and otherworldly atmospherics. Along the way, there are tracks that variously sound like Cos/Mes jamming with Pet Metheny ('The Magician'), the Idjuts locking horns with Mudd ('Ode To Mum'), classic Scandolearica (the Lindstrom & Prins Thomas-ish 'Pulsar'), Peter Green on valium ('Views From A Blue Train') and a lost Fleetwood Mac track ('Secret Marriage'). All set on a beautiful thick card gatefold LP featuring brilliant new artwork by Mark Warrington this is an essential summer album

On the next installment on their Discotheque Wreckers imprint, Psychemagik delve into yet untapped regions of their record collections to bring you a double A 12" of Cosmic Italo gold, two monster dancefloor beasts with bulging basslines, spacy synths and super sweet vox, both guaranteed club killers, the duo continue to deliver quality cuts, a fine edition to this epic series of edits/remixes.

Sunkissed Recordings' latest offering features four Balearic gems from the incredible Grace Jones. One of the faces of the original Ibiza party scene, Grace spent many a debauched night partying hard on the island and her music was as influential on the original Balearic scene as it was in the New York disco underground. First up is the amazing Tom Moulton 12' version of 'La Vie En Rose' - a slo-mo sensual disco masterpiece that became an anthem at Ibiza's Amnesia. Next up is the extended 12' version of 'Feel Up' with a fantastic groove that filled floors from the Paradise Garage to Pacha. On the B side, we get 'Nipple To The Bottle' another stunning Sly & Robbie production that found favour on the Balearic dancefloors and last but not least the extended Larry Levan mix of the party classic 'Pull Up To The Bumper'. You need this!

Limited remastered reissue of Bagarre's cult classic New Wave Italo disco LP 'Circus'. Originally released back in '82 on tiny Italian label Sauvage Musique, this amazing LP which features the wonderful left field vocals of Ann O'Rack over some killer italo disco grooves has become a real collectors item and is now hugely in-demand.

Standouts include the superbly melancholic and sleazy 'Dirty Love', oddball gem 'For Your Pleasure' and the excellent disco version of 'Lemonsweet', but the whole LP is great and a worthy addition to any collection. Top stuff!

The Elate EP features a second chance to get hold of what has become a cult classic from EP 3

As a result, James at the label decided to include the track on this new release
But, as always there's much more on offer too
La Conscience on the flip is a gently pulsing electronic, Balearic beauty, that's trademark Begin
While Rocette sounds exactly like Afrika Bambaataa's Soul Sonic Force decided to drop acid one sunny South Bronx afternoon and cooked up
an altogether more tripped out, blissed out and dialed down Planet Rock

The year is 2475 AD. As the galaxy is torn apart by incessant sonic warfare three veterans of the synth-zone prepare to drop down onto the surface of Nu-Earth for a final battle to reclaim the lost holy sound of Italo Disco and liberate the enslaved populations of the wastelands to reclaim their former musical glories from the tyrannical 'audioverlords', the oppressors of all sentient musical forms. Genetic Musicians carrying the personality matrices of their fallen comrades encoded into their synths, they know no fear or compassion, their instincts artificially modified for ultimate musical combat... code-named Kid Machine, Casionova and Flemming Dalum they operate without boundaries deep behind enemy lines. Watching, waiting, ready to strike at a moment's notice in any environment on or off-world... This is the first transmission decoded by our defence perimeter satellites into analogue format.
First of three volumes presented in a clear plastic sleeve, each one pressed on vinyl whose colour is taken from the Italian flag.

Limited reissue for this fantastic in-demand disco cover of The Police's 'Voices Inside My Head'. Originally released on NYC label BC Records in 1980, this version became a staple on the NYC scene back in the day receiving heavy rotation at both the Paradise Garage and Mancuso's Loft, and its druggy hypnotic take on the Sting-penned classic still packs floors today with a superb chugging slo-mo aesthetic, moody strings, dreamy vocals and ultra-funky bass. Essential 12' - don't miss!

The blade wielding edit team known as Beard Science return for 2013 !
Four more lost classics given the short back and sides (and a few extensions)
The seventh release in this celebrated series opens with Oswego Music stretching out a fragment of dubby Eighties rock.
Next, T.Tauri revs up the engine on a raucous disco stormer.
For the B side, Toronto's Andrew Allsgood and Alister 'DJ Catalist' Johnson make their Beard Science debut with some sinuous space disco, hot on the heels of the launch of their Free Association label.
Finally, Brad Vachal, flying solo without Eric Hedford on this outing, slows things down with a swampy, bluesy rock number.

After the success of the first three volumes, Musica Sol Y Mar are back with a fourth installment of Balearic Sound for 2013. The album contains tracks such as 'In Alto Mare' from sultry Italian singer Loredana Berte who delivers a killer piano-led groove that has been a summer favourite in the Mediterranean since its release in the early 1980s; the dope slo-mo Cosmic groove of 'My Baby My' by US soul singer Sue Ann Cardwell which was a big hit on the White Island as well as being popular with the Afro and Cosmic DJs in Italy. The slo-mo theme is continued with The Alan Parsons Project's mighty 'The Gold Bug' which the Quiet Village guys have been championing in recent years. Our Amnesia days are remembered with Switzerland's finest duo, Yello and their inimitable 'She's Got A Gun' which Alfredo often dropped in his warm up sets. Rock music has always been a key part of the Balearic sound and is showcased here by legends The Who and Rod Stewart. Rod's sleazy groove 'Passion' has been revived in recent years by Balearic Mike and Joel Martin in England whilst The Who's 'Eminence Front' has endured popularity in New York via David Mancuso and Larry Levan as well as Ibizan DJs. Jose Padilla's enduring influence is written large in the songs by Jevetta Steele, Malcolm McLaren and Alphonso Johnson - perfect to soundtrack a Café Del Mar sunset. All tracks featured here are either long deleted on vinyl or are seeing a vinyl release for the first time and have been re-mastered for maximum quality. Enjoy Balearic Sound Volumen Cuatro!

Future-thinking, soulful house & jazz from Japan & PGH to play in DJ sets, or mack-out by the fireplace. Hand-numbered, multiple-color, individually-unique, hand-stenciled jackets.

Even though he didn't invent the concept, Bucharest born and Amsterdam residing, Andrei Idu, or more familiarly, The Legendary 1979 Orchestra has done a good deal of remixes in the previous couple of years. This record showcases his best remixes and dubs. Apart from "Lesson 1 Remix", all tracks are exclusive to this vinyl release.

Starting off the record is the infectious dance-floor filler remix of Odyssey's "Inside Out". The remix was done for the 2011 DJ History Odyssey remix competition. Having received enormous feedback and support, it was about time it saw an official release! The track builds the feel-good instrumental to a vocal chorus driven hands-in-the-air climax. It has been a sure shot secret weapon of The Legendary 1979 Orchestra's DJ sets until now. The second track on the A-side is The Legendary 1979 Orchestra's most successful remix to date. His version of L'Equipe du Son's "Lesson 1" is a warm synth driven piece of the highest quality 80's inspired disco. The percussion and strings fill the track with sentiment. It's been witnessed to melt girls on the dance-floor and make grown men shed tears.

The B-side of the record is reserved for the deeper dubs. First off is an unreleased version of Emeron & Fox's "Dopecity". The Legendary 1979 Orchestra takes the original as inspiration and goes deep with it. "Dopecity Deep Dub" is a journey into emotions and euphoria that would fit wonderfully in those late morning deep house sets. Finishing off the record is a Bonus Beats version of Saint Petersburg Disco Spin Club's "Marwencol". The original and the first TL79O remix of the track were released in early 2011 on the infamous Russian label Shanti. It was actually The Legendary 1979 Orchestra's first official release. The version on the record strips down the remix going even more dub and keeps the ultra-punchy drums in the forefront for some guaranteed head-nodding business.

With each track touching on a different side of underground dance music, this record is a complete guide to the many styles and tastes of The Legendary 1979 Orchestra's compositions. It wouldn't be hard to imagine hearing all four tracks at different times of a perfect club night.

Another fantastic compilation from Sunkissed featuring six incredible Afro Latin flavoured Balearic rarities from 70/80s Brazilian singer/songwriter Jorge Ben. A stunning selection of hard to find tracks that all found favour both on Italy's Afro Funky Cosmic scene and on the dancefloors of Ibiza and beyond. Standouts include the floor friendly 'Ponta De Lanca Africano (Umbabarauma)' and 'Energia Bom Bom' as well as the brilliant 'Falcao' only ever available before as an in-demand limited 1983 seven inch but all the cuts are essential and a great way to collect some of the best work by such a wonderful artist.
Top stuff !

Number five in the series and no letting up the pressure for hot African funk label Supafrico. The fifth volume hits the ground running with the in-demand extended version of massive 1979 party anthem 'Let me Love You' from Sierra Leone's disco/funk maestro Bunny Mack. Next up comes Jake Sollo's wonderful dancefloor burner 'African Gypsy'. Tucked away on his hard-to-find album 'Show Me How' also from '79, this superb slice of Nigerian funk showcases the congo master's percussion skills and great vocals as well as some wild psychedelic guitar action. Flip onto Side B for William Onyeabor's conscious soul epic 'Better Change Your Mind'. Weighing in at eight and a half minutes with a heavyweight churning bassline and some hefty guitarwork, this cannot fail to move you in all senses. And last but not least, the fantastic Roverman by Emma Dorgu from his 1979 super-rare album of the same name. An ultra-funky cut with some very cool Fender Rhodes, this sought-after groover is a great end to another essential Supafrico compilation.

finally repressed!

Limited edition vinyl reissue of the gorgeous 'Can't Be Serious' by
Ginny - a sublime slice of Cosmo-Balearica that has been hugely in demand since featuring on DJ Harvey's legendary Sarcastic Mix.
With its beautiful female vocals and twinkling synths over a killer slo-mo groove, it's easy to see what all the fuss is about and why the lost gem is so sought after. Classic!

The latest offering from the Balearica imprint featuring more top quality sun-kissed gems. First up is Derrick Harriot's 'Black Skin Blue Eyed Boys', a fantastic reggae disco cover version of the Equals classic originally released on the mega rare 'Acid Rock' LP back in 1982. Following this bomb is the funky party killer, David Lampell's 'Iranian Groove'. The flip side features the exceptionally hard to come by 12' version of 'Praise Jah' by Trinidadian singer Oluko Imo that captivates with its predominant funk bassline and inventive keys. Finally, we have Amadeo's hugely in-demand 'Memories', a spacey balearic disco groover that has been popping up on many DJs most wanted lists ever since it was one of the standouts of Harvey's brilliant 'Sarcastic Disco Mix'. Wonderful stuff!

All the tracks from the vinyl plus a 14 min long bonus cut: "HOLD ON TOYOUR DREAMS (RAYKO SPIRITUAL GARGAMEL EDIT)", a wonderful re-edit of theJAH WOBBLE club track that features THE EDGE and JAKI LIEBZEIT. A killerrecord of disco and funk edits.Slimline cardboard sleeve.(GLENVIEW RECORDS)

With two massive reissues from Suns of Arqa and Jaki Whitren under their belts, the fledging label Emotional Rescue have come up with the goods once again, with this remastered reissue of incredibly rare 70s psyche-funk from Bob Chance. Two versions are included: the original 7" version, driven along by a razor-sharp guitar riff and sweetly lamenting lyrics, topped off with weird cosmic synths and galloping rhythm. However, the real gem is the edit entitled "Wild It's Broken" which sharpens the focus of the guitar and adds some serious kick to the drums to create a beefy counterpart to the new age original.

After a short hiatus, the highly sought after Hot Natured Re Rubs Series is back. Forth in the series features four great re-edit's by Jamie Jones, Lee Foss, Miguel Campbell and Richy Ahmed & S.A.S.

Quality limited reissue of this classic LP from Californian singer/songwriter, Ned Doheny. Though beloved of the recent Balearic scene with fans including Harvey, Lexx, Moonboots et al, Ned was under-appreciated during his own era with this superlative LP only ever securing a vinyl release in Japan, making it a seriously hard to get hold of album but definitely worth the effort. Following on from his iconic Hard Candy LP, 1979's Prone is again bursting with Californian sun-soaked gems showcasing Doheny's signature laidback funky musical style and relaxed unpolished vocals. From quality soulful groovers such as Think Like A Lover and If You Only Knew through to the sophisticated disco sounds of Sweet Friction and Funky Love, there's not a filler in sight but the icing on this tasty West Coast cake has got to be DJ's favourite - the great jazz-funk floor-filler To Prove My Love. An essential album - don't miss!

VOLUME 3 of this VERY limited and mysterious one-off series, emanating, as you might expect, from the Big Apple. Put together by a legendary NY record store owner from a personal stash of edits constructed for back in the day club play, which still sound super fresh and effective today.
These will sell out on presale, so numbers ASAP please !
