Nina Kraviz launches her (pronounced 'trip') label with a double-EP compilation entitled 'The Deviant Octopus', featuring a pair of brand new productions from Kraviz alongside material from Terrence Dixon, emerging talent Parrish Smith & Bjarki, and veteran producers Exos & Steve Stoll.

The idea for has been gestating for some time with Nina Kraviz, an avid crate-digger and frequenter of numerous second-hand record stores, who has long wanted to begin a label of her own which would build on some of the principles of her beloved 90s techno labels in terms of attitude and aesthetics, whilst looking for forward-thinking modern productions that reflect her core tastes for idiosyncratic electronic music.

The art and title of 'The Deviant Octopus' comes from a single-sentence scenario dreamt up by Kraviz: 'Without a moment's notice an Octopus appeared and devoured everyone in sight'. Supplied with this scenario, artist Tombo rendered his own unique visualization for the artwork that adorns the release sleeve. It's Kraviz's own nod to the labels that inspire her and grab her attention while digging through second hand records, the best of which were imbued with the unique personality of the people behind them. This extends to the sound Kraviz intends for : dusky, divergent and trippy music to stimulate brains, dreams and fantasies.

In this respect 'The Deviant Octopus' is a perfect introduction: Kraviz herself is represented on the tracklist by two new tracks that take up the mantle of last year's Mr Jones EP by returning to the vocal-flecked hypnotic techno that marked out that release. Complimenting those are two new cuts from a true master of hallucinatory off-kilter techno, Terrence Dixon in his Population One guise.

Joining them will be a pair of names from the techno pantheon who have been huge influences on Kraviz: with a career that's taken in releases on Synewave, Trax, Novamute and Richie Hawtin's early-90s Probe Records, Steve Stoll has been mining his own variant on techno and acid minimalism for over twenty years, heading up the Proper NYC label and releasing under various pseudonyms, such as Cobalt, of which Kraviz has been a long-term fan. His counterintuitively titled 'Pop Song' sits alongside a 13-minute 90s techno excursion from Reykjavik's Exos - the only previously-released cut (originally appearing on Thule Records sub-label Plast Trax in 1998) - together illustrating that will also live up to its name in the geographical sense: showcasing great music from historically vibrant electronic music scenes outside of the usual Detroit-Berlin axis.

With Kraviz looking to build a small repertory of talent around , this first release also makes room for two newer names: Bjarki is an Icelandic talent to keep a firm eye on, who drew Kraviz's attention in a chance meeting after a gig at Copenhagen's Culturebox club, after which he passed her a collection of mind-bendingly odd demos; while Parrish Smith is a talented Netherlands-based producer whose short yet impactful sketch '1.0 / 8.0 Afrika Genocide' brings the second 12' to a bewitching close.

After a humble startup release in 2019, Philou Louzolo continues his quest with his Afrofuristic label Wokoundou and welcomes us once again in his fictional multiverse. The opening anthem Ahosi Army is that song where we can hear Philou's diverse influences come together: aggressive polyrhythmic African drums are taking the lead accompanied by Philou himself playing the percussion in combination with lightsaber - effects and lazershots shooting over a deeply layered African Techno track, a true space battle anthem. Violet and Alma Negra are taking us to a new place at the intergalactic outskirts of Wokoundou's multiverse with two strong and propulsive remixes.

"A Broken Clock Is Right Twice A Day" EP is comprised of 7 tracks recorded in Kazan and Moscow during various sessions. Some of them go back as early as 2014 and everything is composed on two 8-track samplers.
Alina Izolenta and Kamil Ea were born in the USSR, so the origin of the acronym PTU is embedded in everyday life of a country, which no longer exists. The duo spent their childhood in Siberia and on Volga, and their salad days in music schools and early clubs of their respective home cities.

Back then accessing the Internet was only possible via pre-paid cards that came in envelopes. Music — via pirate CDs and endlessly slow mp3 downloads. Friendships would stem from copying music from hard drive to hard drive. The name PTU came to life in the middle of 00s, in a rented apartment, literally the last building in some street on the outskirts, over impromptu synth sessions with friends.

The sixth album by Rhys Celeste aka Microlith on Fundamental. "We always tried to release all the tracks Rhys sent to us as best as possible and this new album follows the same concept, design and the same quality standards, the best." Fundamental Records has the authorization and full support of the Rhys family to release this album and also the previous albums that Rhys composed during the years 2015 and 2016, albums that never were released on vinyl before. "We can proudly say we did all we can to keep the music of Rhys alive and available on vinyl in the best possible quality. All tracks have been thoroughly mastered for the best possible sound quality." This is the last project that will be released under the Fundamental Records label. S8jfou (pronounce "suis-je fou" in french wich means "Am I crazy?") is a young French producer of electronic music. Chosen as a reference to the cynical philosophy, "Cynism" is the second album to come out of S8jfou's creative mind, this time on Rennes's imprint Parapente Music. This new record mixes skillfully UK Garage, IDM, Jungle influences, ambient music, ; and scrolls like a dream trying to escape, leaving through its melodies a message to the eternal children...

"Cynism" is an self-produced album in a remote hut in the French Alps. In order to fully live his music and to produce it, S8jfou needed to be isolate in a self-built house in the mountains, far from noises and judgments. His electronic compositions are thus freer. Since 2016, he has gained in popularity among the young producers who love analog sounds and sound synthesis in France.

The more alone he is, the more accomplished his albums become : “I discovered how to let go when one is completely alone, to live a trance-like experience when one composes, he says. By living there, I realized we don’t need anything to live. I make fire in the wood stove for heating but also for cooking, I go shopping once a month, a three hours walk away... The rest of the time I create.”

In spite of the young age of the artist, we already feels a lot of maturity and technical mastery when listening to this album. The influence of the master Aphex Twin is never very far away, both in the isolated creative process and in the sound itself. However, S8jfou manages to keep his own and personal style throughout the album.

The System 108 anniversary record sums up the label's five-year work without words. The new collection is an impression of everything that the team has become during its existence. System 108 has matured nominally and stylistically, defining for itself three main directions: post-industrial, techno and break-beat, disco and house. Each of the three parts of the new collection reveals one of the musical trajectories of System 108 development: (Part 2) -- techno, breakbeat, old school trance by friends and residents of the label.

Vitalic returns with a fifth album, which will be released in two volumes. "DISSIDÆNCE", the title of which is a whole story in itself – is an album that the producer describes as a return to the roots of his sonic identity, a kind of reinterpretation of the rock energy of his early albums.

The first volume of “DISSIDÆNCE” is a sort of concentrated resume of his strengths from the past twenty years, whether it's filthy, head-spinning tornado tracks or synth-laden love songs for a summer's day. With "DISSIDÆNCE" Episode 1, whose powerful beats and galloping sequencers translate the social and political anger of the global pandemic, Vitalic looks into his past and channels his love for off-kilter synth sounds, skew-whiff pads, heady refrains, distorted vocals and heavy beats dripping with sex and sweat, but above all his obsessional passion for dance music.

"DISSIDÆNCE" should be taken as a celebration of celebration, time-travel to an era that may not exist right now, but which will - and this album is the dazzling proof - be reborn from its ashes to burn bright once more, in all its raging glory.

Licks From The Grotto came to life during two sessions in the summer of 2020. “I was swimming. I was jamming.” Rubio recalls. His studio resides in an 18th-century sea fortress accessible only by water. It’s a suited environment for capturing raw emotive moments. Rubio’s encounters with machines create a pleasant amount of unconventional truthfulness as well as an exhilarating atmosphere. Though enigma hangs 'round his shoulders like a heavy cloak his music is very warm and inviting, like a big wave lifting your feet off the ground.

Could a hypnotizing marriage between dub techno and Detroit house be the perfect sonic symbiosis? Check out This Is How We Dub on our third Tech-Um label which is the product of a collaboration between Paul Donton and Daniel Mancini's The Maersk Project and Dutch DJ and iconic producer Orlando Voorn. All of these have been established and respected names within the Techno scene for several years - decades, even! Minimal Detroit has deep roots in the city where techno was born, but the spirit of this music is intergalactic. This inaugural EP celebrates “The Bridge” established in Techno between Detroit and Berlin, which resonates around the world.

Side A features two Detroit legends, Terrence Dixon aka Population One and Rod Modell (Deepchord, Echospace), while Side B features two Berlin based artists: the inimitable Thomas Fehlmann (3MB, The Orb, Kompakt, Tresor) and Domenique Xander (Moods & Grooves Records).

The record itself is also a bridge, mastered in Berlin by Mandmade Mastering, and pressed by Archer Record Pressing, who have been pressing records in Detroit since 1965. This limited release is the first chapter of what will certainly be a long and beautiful musical story.

Techno at its best.

Dublin's Splitradix delivers an EP of intense and melancholic acid / braindance with plenty of ''light in darkness'' to quote Yellow Magic Orchestra. Opener Laplace Formal is a moody, hyper melodic piece for a dreamy dance floor. The oddly titled second track, The Dry Canal, is the centerpiece of the EP. Dry, deep and stomping acid taking you through a tunnel of sound - the two dark droney melody lines slowly but surely turn the piece into something truly epic and unforgettable... Opening the flipside, Empty Sea 1000 is a slow, lazy acid cut from another dimension, very nice! Lucan 303 Distribution Service is heavy on the kick. Basic at first, it later turns into a wonderfully melodic Rephlex-like cut. Last one, Laplace Formal (Navs' No Jacket Required Remix) is a laidback and more euphoric version of the EP's opening track.

Originally released in the year 2000, the album represents a pivotal moment in the emergence of the “Birmingham Sound”; a stripped-back sub-genre of Techno, pioneered around this time in the English hub by artists such as Regis, Female, and Surgeon.

Influenced more by Industrial, Music Concrete, and EBM than from the melodic sounds of its Detroit predecessor, Regis later described the music as being made with a fractured pop sensibility which created a sound that may be faceless but by design loses none of the soul of its American counterpart.

Nowhere is this sonic changing of the guard more apparent than in opening track, Washing My Hands, which sets the stage with a vignette of field recordings: arc welders, water boilers and other sounds reminiscent of industrial workshops reframe your senses, placing your mind into a familiar yet unsettling dreamlike space. From this sound- scape emerges a high-pitched, vitreous noise heralding the jarring introduction of Let Them Bleed, the first of several trance-inducing tracks on the album such as Join Us In Paradise, and Guiltless, which layer percussive and sampled loops creating what Peter Sutton (aka Female) described as exotic hypnotics.

This remastered edition of Againstnature also features the additional track, Theme From Streetwalker, previously only available on Volume 6 of the Tresor Compilation series.

Terrence Dixon and M.R.E.U.X are back in business!

A stylish return on the stage with 4 tracks of pure Detroit style techno. Psychedelic sounds demorstate, again, the great mentality of these two artists, loyal to old school underground techno. Terrence presents two minimalist tracks which will capture attention from everybody on the dancefloor; M.R.E.U.X insists with his unique style, distinguished by dizzying rithms and pure energy.

The American cable-television industry exploded in the 1980s, pushing broadcasts of diverse programming and emissions of low-laying cultures into homes. Community stations piggybacked on the digital developments of the time, extending their existence through telephony and broadcast a iliates. For those growing up in this time, in locations such as New York City, the localized communications beamed into their homes exposed them to an impressionable array of disparate sounds and visions.
Move into the 1990s and New York was filled to the brim of emergent cultures drawing from this ebullition of communication. From Rammellzee’s shapeshifting to the late Judy Russell and Frank and Karen Mendez’s Nu Groove imprint fusing reggae, poetry and house, nascent ideas emanated from the city walls, from within stores such as Sonic Groove store and on VHS releases such as Stakker’s The Evil Acid Baron Show, a legendary technicolor psychedelic trip along the wildest frontiers of acid house. As scenes expanded and identities developed, such individuals weather the events of the visceral now, expressing themselves right into an unpredictable future.
Function’s long career has seen him uncover a vast range of sonic identities, a mainstay through house, techno and industrial with collaborations with the likes of Regis, Damon Wild alongside his highly influential Infrastructure imprint. With influences deeply tied to pop art, rave and gay scenes, and early memories of block-parties emitting Kraftwerk and Strafe, he found himself seeking out the undercover illegal nights of the 90s on a quest of sexual unearthing, mixing the ever-yearning escapology mission of disco with the influential DJ sets of Jeff Mills.
For his new album Existenz, he marks a clear step away from the corporeal techno of his recent releases. Pivoting around themes of religion, sexuality, trauma and healing, it is a work expansive and celebratory, a clear liberation from a deeply internalized past. Formed from a collection of recordings made in a period from late 2016 to mid 2019, Existenz takes the form of a creative outburst in reaction to a number of traumas - recent, childhood and throughout Function’s life. Life partner Stefanie Parnow assisted the production process in its entirety, providing inspiration, spiritual healing and featuring vocal contributions.
Cosmic synths soar and swoop in ‘Pleasure Discipline’ through towering stacks of rhythm that stutter and creak to a halt before rebooting, a firm robotic response to human intervention. ‘Zahlensender’ reflects a spatial tetris of urban life, as digitalization set within an XYZ matrix confronts the sprawling city. Constant arpeggiated meditations echo synaptic transmissions, e ecting a dissolution of boundaries. ’The Approach’ recalls the unification of the self, a state of delirium non-subjective and smooth, as all connections and functions give way to simple intensities of feeling, crossing the threshold into spirituality. ’Golden Dawn’, featuring Stefanie Parnow, marks a further elevation of dubbed-out euphoria, as once more positive rays emerge. His ode to the effortless short-trip urban navigation 'Kurzstrecke' finds Function in motion, upfront and bold, snapshots of conversation and flickers of light. 'Ertrinken' finds metallic bass jabs swamping snipped synthetic voices, with hidden stores of emotion set as a nod to the history of vocoders as a tool for encrypted military communication. House icon Robert Owens features on 'Growth Cycle' and 'Be', entrenching a celebratory atmosphere over Function's clubwise leanings. Closing track 'Downtown 161' reflects the unmistakeable filtered and squashed interjections of television, and sampled dance vocals - a sound for the curious, dreamers and dancers.
With Existenz, Function reveals an essential body of work, spread over 4LP - thought experiments on the role of identity and spirituality after a lifetime of upheaval and trauma. Leading up until the release date, Function will undertake an album promo tour with select dates - A/V shows at Berlin Atonal and Rural festival in Japan, and three dates as part of his Bassiani residency.

WOD017 sees the legendary Mike Ash at full throttle like a well stoked steam engine with 2 Acid House and 2 Electro monsters which will destroy any dance floor known to man....a sure fire 2021 classic EP. Turn it up to 11, close your eyes and feel the burn.

Futureboogie Recordings is calling time after ten years with a 20-track compilation that sums up the sound of the lovingly curated Bristol label. From throbbing arps and noirish guitar twangs to errant analogue blips and ceaseless, rolling grooves, it’s a different sound to what you might have heard five years back on the Summer Riot IV compilation, and certainly a long way from the early days. Consider Futureboogie 102 an ode to evolution as much as a toast to all the great tracks and the family of artists that have passed through the wide-reaching Futureboogie sphere since before the label was even a sparkle in the disco ball.

Originally founded by Dave Harvey and Steve Nickolls, the roots of Futureboogie lie in an intimate Bristol party called Seen. Started in 2002, this open-hearted session invited the likes of Metro Area, Attica Blues, Carl Craig, Maurice Fulton, Moodymann and Gilles Peterson – based on that heavyweight list, you can see the foundations were laid for what was to come. Futureboogie evolved off the back of these parties as a many-limbed operation – an artist management and booking agency as much as a club night, with Harvey and Nickolls consolidating the sound as DJs around Bristol and beyond. The progression to a record label was a logical one.

When Futureboogie Recordings launched in 2011 with Julio Bashmore and Javeon McCarthy’s ‘Father Father’, it represented an extended circle of friends close to the label from Bristol’s deep pool of talent and beyond – amongst them Eats Everything, Waifs & Strays, PBR Streetgang, Behling & Simpson and Crazy P. The reach of the label grew in tandem with its reputation, not to mention the endeavours of the team in other areas of the music game. The Boogiefuturo label became a vital entity on its own terms, carrying a lauded DJ Nature remix of Typesun which encapsulates two distinct generations of Bristolian house music at its best. DJ Nature, who cut his teeth as DJ Milo in the Wild Bunch days, has gone on to become a regular feature on Futureboogie, helping define its soulful, adventurous spirit.

It’s also hard to separate Futureboogie from Team Love – events specialists who share some of the same management. From their flagship Love International festival in Croatia (having steered The Garden before that) to the Love Saves The Day weekend in Bristol, the Silver Hayes dance area of Glastonbury to the Waterworks festival with Percolate in London, you can see the unmistakable Futureboogie stamp across an international spread of events now. Futureboogie also hosted scores of stages at festivals across the UK on their own terms and played globally at iconic spots from Fabric in London to Salon Wilden Renate in Berlin and D Edge in Sao Paulo.

Sonically, Futureboogie shifted its direction at the halfway point with Fernando’s Mid Decade EP. Artists like Mark E, Felix Dickinson, Kiwi, Lauer, Ponty Mython, Ruf Dug and Toby Tobias are of course still intuitively connected with the foundations of disco and funk, but their sound teases at the edges to shape out a more inquisitive strain of house. The remixers passing through the label at this time speak volumes as well – the late, great Andrew Weatherall, Roman Flügel, I:Cube and Ivan Smagghe amongst them, every one an iconoclast within the strictures of club music.

So we come to Futureboogie 2020, which lands in the wake of a sterling run of 12”s from breakthrough names like Theus Mago, Zakmina, Chez de Milo and Warehouse Preservation Society. Across 20 tracks, this expansive collection celebrates the same omnivorous love of grooves which Futureboogie embodied before it even had a name. There’s a moodier, freakier strain to the sound across the compilation, but the tradition of warm, snagging party starters holds true. It’s a triumphant note to end on. But one has to ask, why, and what comes next?

Harvey, alongside close colleague Bristol DJ Ellie Stokes, felt the need to draw a line under 10 years of Futureboogie and look ahead to something new. As such, they’ll be launching a new label called Small Victories in the near future. For now though, the time is right to toast a true totem of Bristol’s house music culture and immerse yourself in an extensive overview of the sound it arrived at, signing off on a resolute high.

One of the most promising techno producers around right now - Vil presents his '50 Shades Of Grain EP' for the Self Reflektion imprint. The 'Groove Dealer' from Portugal, member of the HAYES collective and known for his recent work on Klockworks (together with Cravo) and Be As One delivers a selection of sexy, groovy yet pounding tracks for our label. Highly essential!

Techno Sexual by DJ Body Mechanic is the first release from London's GASS Records.

Having been involved in a number of creative collectives within Detroit including H30 and Detroit Techno Militia, Body Mechanic has been a central force in the history of Ghettotech.

On the A side, Dick Whyte boasts about what he's been doing to your girlfriend over huge toms and pounding claps, with a synth riff that gets wetter and wetter - just like your girlfriend's pussy when she's "at the bar". Geared for a sweaty club, the mechanical funky synths and jittery hats on 'Intercourse' compliment an obscene robotic vocal that invites you out for dinner, followed by some fucking.

The flip is a question and an answer, 'Can I Eat Your Pussy' is a droning slow jam where Dick Whyte whispers the many ways he wants to touch you, receiving a lusty female response over a hypnotic bass riff and punch snare on "Eat My Pussy Baby".

Ghost in the Machine returns to continue their adventures in the world of acidfueled industrial techno. This shiny white 12" sees them further exploring, stretching, establishing and reestablishing the boundaries of their own sound. Dirtier kicks, cleaner kicks, deeper kicks, techier techno and even more acidic acid. They actually managed to sneak a track on here that doesn't use a 303. A very bold move which will undoubtedly have farreaching consequences for the future of future dance music. Recommended if you like buying records.

Previously known for his progressive trance works, van Wyk has spent a lot of his time as of late composing for the film industry. In 2013, his solo output switched to more pastoral forms of neo-classical leaning ambient with his first full-length Days You Remember, before moving into more piano-based composition for Attachment (2016) and Opacity (2017).

Threads does reflect some of his previous ambient works; however, the album shows van Wyk composing music for (and of) current times. There is a much-welcomed underlying beauty to Threads, but there are also threads of anxious- ness and unwavering intensity throughout its forty-minute run-time. It's an engaging listen full of texture where each piece takes you on an engrossingly escapist journey.

Jerome Sydenham, Fatima Njai and Mario Punchard channel Kraftwerk with ‘Trans Afro Express’ on Rekids.

Much of Ibadan label-boss Sydenham’s career has been defined by his infusion of pan-African sounds into electro, house and techno. Teaming up with frequent collaborator Fatima Njai and percussionist Mario Punchard, the Nigerian-born, NY-honed artist continues his mission with a brilliant interpretation of one of Kraftwerk’s most influential tracks, ‘Trans Europe Express’. Evocative of the organic, drum-led and hypnotic grooves that run through Sydenham and Njai’s output, ‘Trans Afro Express’ is a compelling update of a classic.

Alterazione presents a critical statement – distinguished by its technical execution and breathtaking artistry. The album itself is a cathedral of sound, each cavernous chamber an exploration of space and consciousness. Presented in four movements (one track per side), altogether they extend as a transportive experience of evolution for the listener.

Iniziazione – a steady departure that unfurls like the opening of a portal; a process of molecular transfiguration commences. Panoramic landscapes begin to stretch wide, glistening with an exotic beauty, before the shamanic incantations of Rituale draws things deeper. Pulsating rotations push through the next phase of transformation, now drenched in hyperspace white-noise. The procedure continues through the quiet ethereal orbit of Metamorfosi, before finishing with the three-part Evocazione/Contatto/Risveglio; uplifting synth motifs drive forward with optimism, before fading back into the great expanse.

Alterazione is both cerebral and meditative, and one cannot help but be pulled at the core by its potency.

Nachdem das Album Coco 2018 erstmals als Doppel Vinyl veroffentlicht wurde, erscheint nun eine 180gr Limited Edition auf weissen Vinyl. Ein Must Have fur alle Plattensammler.

Das Album Coco setzt da fort, wo seine bisherigen Erfolgsalben aufgehort haben. Auf der anderen Seite entwickelt er seinen Sound aber konsequent weiter und fugt seinen bewahrten jazzigen Klangen spannende, neue Stilelemente hinzu.

Die zwei Vinyle des Doppelalbums sind als Unterteilung zwischen den eher tanzbareren und den zum Hören gedachten Tracks zu sehen. Diese Grenze verschwindet bei Parov Stelar?fs aktuellen Kompositionen allerdings zusehends und das Album bildet so weniger ein zweigeteiltes Werk, als vielmehr einen homogenen Fluss an Nummern, die stetig an Tanzfaktor gewinnen.

Der Musiker selbst sieht das Ganze als "?Buch für den musikalischen Leser", in dem es ganz klar eine klassische Aufteilung in Einleitung, Mittelteil und Schluss gibt. Durch die Schnelllebigkeit unserer Zeit und das 'Reinhoren?'in Alben geht die Auseinandersetzung mit weniger plakativen Songs verloren. Das Album Coco ist von Parov Stelar hier als Gegenposition gedacht.

Peverelist does Peverelist on his 3rd album of Bristolian bass techno prisms, Tessellations, his first for the Livity Sound label, forming a typically stripped, acute treatise on the flux of dub, techno, D&B and ambient electronics that make up his soundsystem DNA.

Rooted in the '90s but curved and toned for 2017, Pev's sound is economically functional but not without a crucial sliver of emotive, sensual/textural pressure that bleeds thru in each cut. It's hardly hands-in-the-air material, yet his slow-burning vibes are arguably more satisfying and subtly impressive in the immediacy of the dance and for the long run.

Across a neatly plotted 48 minutes he systematically investigates and consolidates all stripes of the Peverelist sound in a way that builds on the experiments of 12000 Seconds (2014) whilst reprising and refining the heft of Jarvik Mindstate (2009).

The roiling modular tones of opener Burning Seas offers a rare, beat-less iteration of his sound before the session properly gets under way, vacillating the pressure between Under Clearing Skies dense electro-bass pulses and strobing dub chords, and the wide open lushness of Still Early, then twisting into the latinate shimmy of Sheer Chance Matters and the spiralling trills of Wireframes, which sounds almost like Plastikman meets Unique 3.

Further Inland brings a lot of originality and feeling with a misty-eyed mesh of airy Detroit/Berlin arpeggios and serpentine house swang, cooling down into the tribalism patterns of Brinks and Limits and closing on another rare, beat-less vision, Plateau from which to survey his rolling topography and then dive back in again.

Good stuff.

A blistering buddy to the first instalment of Pig&Dan’s ‘Tunnel Vision’ EP will land in April.

Not one to rest on their laurels, Pig&Dan have come out firing in 2020. One of the techno genre’s most prolific artists, their 17 year has seen a wealth and consistency of output unmatched by most in the industry. This is exemplified by the ‘Tunnel Vision’ series launched on Drumcode this year.

Set for release just one week after its predecessor, part 2 continues in powerful, peak- time mode. ‘Sirenism’ is a tour de force, driven by a pulsating lead that pops with acidic undertones. ‘Rinse Out The Sound’ is an intoxicating blend of warbled effects, warm synth layers and crisp drum work. ‘Perception’ is marked by an exuberant top line riff and steely percussive layers and makes for a colourful addition to any set. ‘Wasted’ is muscular techno at its finest, finished with a glistening layer of melody.

No surprise the collection went down a treat at Warehouse Project, Drumcode Halloween and Dockyard Festival, among others. The duo are in irresistible form.

The ongoing importance of this album is indisputable, essential both to techno and to Tresor. It is a history intertwined. This work elevates its maker as master, and remain a cherished moment in the Tresor story, sharing an irrefutable singular magic, sounding as present and indispensable as when first created. To understand this work fully is to stand back and celebrate its impact.

Originally released in 1994, 'Internal Empire' marks a point of transition for Robert Hood moving on from his previous collaborations within Underground Resistance. Robert Hood advanced uncovering the power of true minimalism. Deep soul through a simplicity that showed how much could be done with so little. The devastating rhythms of this album forge the unmatched spirit of this sound, influencing generations to come.

Skudge suspectedly looked backwards to that well known label with a capital S, also founded and ran a few blocks away from the Skudge studio. One could presume that the A side, '97' hints of a past remembered, as where side B with 'Svek' delicately concludes the fourtheenth release from Skudge.

Multifaceted artist Patrick Mason and Rekids boss Matt Edwards return with their next release as SRVD, entitled ‘Black On Black’.

Since teaming up two years ago, Matt Edwards (Radio Slave) and Patrick Mason have continued to blur the lines between pounding techno and live avant-garde performance under their SRVD alias. Following performances in Barcelona, Melbourne, Berlin London and Tokyo, and with support from the likes of Sven Väth, Rodhad, Chris Liebing, Laurent Garnier and many more. The formidable duo now return to their home imprint, Rekids, with two tracks both recorded in Bordeaux in 2019, using only analogue gear, before being arranged and mixed in Berlin.

‘Black On Black’ opens with thundering percussion, rising synths, rattling cymbals and alluring vocals from Patrick which elevates the energy and leads you into delightful darkness. On the flip, ‘USB’ pulses with a Roland SH 101 bassline and deep kicks while Patrick’s haunting vocal-work causes an unsettling rhythm that propels you into a warehouse space.

Long-time AI associate Wolfgang Voigt returns to the London label with his next album – Rückverzauberung Exhibition. The Exhibition reimagines the concept with renewed purpose, opening the gates to deliver an arresting 60-minute journey into the underworld. Dense soundscapes mutate with alchemic fluidity, unravelling with vast symphonic counterpoints and synesthetic textures. Intoxicating in its Mephistolean dissonances and ambitious sonic structure, the sprawling "Rückverzauberung” itself becomes a nebulous organism shrouded in the seeping mist of the unknown.

XOR Gate is the brainchild of Heinrich Mueller, one half of Drexciya and Dopplereffekt.

In linguistic or electronic logic, the XOR Gate designates a device, digital or grammatical, which outputs a value only when two di ering inputs are fed into it. This can be summed up with the formula 'one or the other but not neither, nor both.'
A conic section is a shape created as a plane intersects a cone. This can result in di erent figures such as a circle, an ellipse, a parabola or a hyperbola. Conic Sections is here composed of eight themes, or shapes, over which waveform and synthesis entirely merge with human emotions. The line is blurred. These eight themes are intertwined, forming one long musical string. The line is forever blurred.

Fjaak tease their long-awaited debut album with a both varied and coherent single. 'Wolves' and 'Pray For Berlin' already hint at what is to be expected of the Berlin-based trio's Monkeytown LP: hard, uncompromising dance foor material on the one side meets sinister break beat magic on the other one.

The 'Wolves' unleashed by Fjaak aim straight for the throat. Over a gritty and hypnotic groove, psychotic organ sounds cut through the mix like suppressed memories. There's a break, but no time to breathe, really: the warm bassline emerging from the intense near-silence only comes with more appetite for destruction. A track which belongs in the peak-time sets of every basement rave, or as Fjaak would say: You'll hear it downstairs ('Unten').

A nervous murmur flls the room, violent sub bass attacks hint at the worst to come and modulated hi-hats hiss demonically. The sonic centre of 'Pray For Berlin' however is occupied by a sophisticated breakbeat, fanked by dreamy synth lines, which lends an irresistible drive to the track, despite its midtempo pace. Fjaak effortlessly translate the A-side's icy mood into a complex breakbeat. It's one for the heads, and at the same time a fully-developed artistic statement.

Deep space Electro! Serbian Electro astronaut Kalson returns to his German base Dominance Electricity. The title track Solarni Sistem, featuring Direct Control, is a broken beat Electro opus with precise sound design, that starts minimalistic und organically builds up to epic spacy Electrofunk. The beatless Synthapella bonus version highlights the beautiful synth work. Next stop is the Taurus constellation, to which Kalson drives the listener with a hypnotizingly slow-paced, melodic beat. Somewhere between dark Synthwave and classic Berlin School, Kalson and H! round up the release with an ambient rendition of a theme from the 1994 Amiga video game Universe ...floating into deep space eternity.

Wikki wikki wikki! For release number 10, German retro Electro label Ground Control pays respect to the legendary New York Hip Hop Electrofunk group Newcleus with two of their biggest classics remixed.

While Jam On It gets the trademark Electrocore treatment by Jackal and Hyde (Scott Weiser of Dynamix II, USA) adding hard beats, spooky synths and vocoder dubs, second song Teknology remixed by UK's Gods of Technology (Phil Klein aka Bass Junkie and Simon Brown aka The Dexorcist) goes smoother with a fat driving bassline and a jazzy spacy feel.

This EP produced by Noise Factory in 1992 expresses the full on depths of Junglistic Hardcore at its best and these tracks being driven by the various elements of the sample patterns, typical Hardcore n Jungle Techno theme of the day that was changing the warehouse scene. The blending of the reggae, hip hop n r&b vocals interchanging with the various samples with that sweet sounding basslines thumping.

A.Futuriod - This track from 1992 comes from the iconic Capsule EP and was a game changer from day dot. With its strong reggae n rnb vocals n the rolling undercurrent basslines n various drum patterns up holding that hardcore jungle feel to the choon.

AA. Dance With The Speaker - This track from 1992 has some dominant basslines n with a 4/4 beat
riding the reggae n hip hop samples that were merging into what was being referred to as Jungle Techno that was taking the scene by storm with these banging drum patterns and sped up vocals

AAA. My Mind - This track also from 1992 is typical of the hardcore n jungle techno theme with rnb
vocals interchanging with the hardcore samples along side the heavy poppin basslines. This was the
early signs of jungle slowly taking its hold n causing waves from its popularity of these choons playing at the warehouses raves.

Trick combines the two recent Patrick Topping and Hayley Topping single in one great 12”.

Patrick and Hayley Topping originally released New Reality in October 2020, but they collaborated
again on ‘Disco Hits’ released this year featuring a remix from Running Back honcho Gerd Janson.
Both releases have now been pressed on this one slab of vinyl for maximum impact!

The second collaboration from the pair, completed in the same session as 2020’s ‘New Reality’,
sees the duo continuing their musical experiments together, bringing Hayley’s ethereal vocals over
an emotive yet pounding, synth-led instrumental.

Gerd Janson supplies an effortlessly classy version of ‘Disco Hits’ by adding his signature discoid
flair, taking the track into an even more leftfield direction, whilst still built for those memorable
dancefloor moments.

Kraftwerk vibes!

German early 1990s Rave-Techno pioneers U96 (Das Boot) team up with Electro pioneer Wolfgang Flur of Kraftwerk (1973-1986).

The broken-beat Electro-Synth-Pop song Zukunftsmusik features vocals by Fl�r and comes with catchy vintage synth melodies and a robotic vocoder refrain.

The additional instrumental version is an exclusive to this 12-inch vinyl release on the German retro-Electro label Ground Control. The future melody!

Gladio Operations is back with a new release, their first to appear in 2021.

On this occasion the UHF duo reactivate with this EP titled “Fact or Fiction?”, a body of work in which we once again discover different styles in the Spanish duo productions.

The pack opens with the track “Fact Or Fiction?”, also the title of the EP, and where UHF gifts us with a steamroller of a track, with vertiginous drops and well accompanied by a masterful remix by the Romanian producer Andrew Red Hand, which converts it into a more emotional piece and highly influenced by the Detroit sound.

On the B side we encounter “Morning Glory”, a more atmospheric and enveloping cut, accompanied by a fantastic 303-scented bass line. This track comes with another great remix, this time by the French producer Jauzas The Shining, where he unveils a darker and deeper vision than the original cut.

The EP ends with “Like Bad At Things” a theme similar to IDM style, with an effective mix of dark textures and melancholic melodies.

‘Mirage’ is the anticipated fourth album from London-based Japanese producer Anchorsong aka Masaaki Yoshida. The highly-fêted MPC wizard presents a record that evokes hazy soundscapes constructed with wind instrumentals, choirs, and global sonic particles. Building on Anchorsong’s long-standing tradition of “borderless music”, ‘Mirage’ fuses intricate rhythms with minimal yet immersive lush interplays of sound to create an auditory odyssey. ‘Mirage’ marks a departure from Anchorsong’s previous two albums – ‘Ceremonial’ and ‘Cohesion’ – specific geographical references. This is the debut solo release from Eris Drew, featuring 3 new songs meticulously mixed for the maximum impact of the Motherbeat. From the very beginning of the emergence of Eris Drew, we at IT have been blown away by the power of her DJ sets, where she channels the psychedelic energies of rave and love -- the music reflects the power of transition and of fully becoming who you are. Part of what was so exciting to us is that her sets find a new path through the sounds and ideas that inspired No Way Back and so many other wonderful things.

So we asked her to create an EP for IT that would reflect these ideas, and our favorite ecstatic healer delivered! Here we find her carefully exploring the intersections of House and Breakbeat culture, a proto rave ecstasy music that exudes the Fluids of Emotion, higher consciousness and the conceptual art of the KLF. Eris has previously released on a compilation on Needs Not For Profit, and a split EP with her equally inspiring partner Octo Octa, but this is her first full solo EP. This EP was recorded at Eris Drew's parents' home in Chicago and mixed in the Interdimensional Laboratories in Detroit with BMG. Comes with full color picture sleeve.

The pandemic has affected people in all sorts of different ways, but for FJAAK, life in lockdown led to one key realization: nothing in life is permanent, and what you do have can disappear at any moment, no matter how solid it may appear. That idea is at the core of the Berlin duo?s new EP, Your Time Is Ov3r, a four-track effort that sits somewhere between a rallying cry and a desperate primal scream. It?s not a coincidence that the record?s jagged, electro-flavored title track contains an ominous vocal refrain (?Hypnotize me?), born out of a time when FJAAK were looking for something, anything to make the days go by more quickly. Still, there?s more to Your Time Is Ov3r than emotional strife. The tracks here have been primed for the dancefloor, and are easily some of FJAAK?s sharpest productions to date. Unbridled EP opener ?Identity? fuses elements of ?90s rave techno with modern electro, the whole thing powered by the song?s menacingly crunchy bassline. ?Chunks? drops the hammer even harder, its heavy kick and low-end growl rumbling along like a vintage muscle car. And for those seeking something a bit more chaotic, the blaring sirens and frenzied breakbeats of 'Falcon Punch' come off like the club equivalent of a nuclear sub attack. Throughout Your Time Is Ov3r, FJAAK tiptoe right on the edge of completely losing control, and while their skilled hands prevent things from ever veering off the road and into a ditch, the music?s inherent sense of instability is undeniably exhilarating.

Faith Disciplines and Subsist Records are two labels that have bet on the personal sound of Group, moreover, between these two platforms there is a good relationship and, although Subsist is a label oriented mainly to techno, it has always been open to other genres such as electro, industrial or experimental, on the other hand, Faith Disciplines is a label with a style designed expressly for experimental music, Lo-Fi and with sound elements of industrial.

Both labels have released Group albums, but it was Subsist Records who discovered this enigmatic project, which after 5 years since its debut we still have absolutely no information about the artist or artists who embody it.

Perhaps, and to disorientate us even more, we can discover with this new album something more about their past. Agriculture is a different release, this time Group doesn’t just stick to his degraded style and shows us that whoever is behind this project most likely had a past as a techno producer.

The lack of brightness, optimal saturation and large spaces that provide effects such as reverb, are properties that usually possess the tracks of Group, therefore, we must be clear that we are not going to find a conventional techno, as each of the 6 tracks could be cataloged with a different subgenre of techno but, sonically we know that they have passed through the hands of this project.

Nottingham don Lukas Wigflex and "The Wizard" Tom Smith come correct with their Me & Meds project. Following on from their debut together on Wigflex, the follow up is just as inventive & playful.

Faffhammer which gained big popularity when Lukas played it on that boat party at Love International is an atmospheric, wonked out euphoric number of the highest order.

The records finished off with the offside ramblings of another notorious Notts head - Des Hagenasty. This is his first outing on wax and it does not disappoint, backed by the analog wobbles and techno grit of Me & Meds, this one bites. The videos an eye opener too, just you wait!

The Limited Series reaches it's 10th release milestone with another 5 track compilation from some of our favourite artists at the moment. BPLS010 is a collection of leftfield UK Techno and broken beats for the dancefloor.

The opening track comes from Bristol based Yushh, head at the Pressure Dome Label, with "Fidget Spanner" featuring a hypnotic garage vocal looped over steppy techno drums, followed by Kincaid on the A2, who returns to the label after his latest split EP "Single Cell" on BP016, this time working with vocalist J. Caesar on the deep spoken word trip of "Inside".

Tristan Arp, one half of the Asa Tone project, also returns after his solo EP "Slip" on BP012 in 2020, with "Circling The Abyss" with a refreshing use of the Cello laid expertly on polyrhythmic drum patterns. PinballSpider makes their label debut with a warm and stripped back minimal ear worm on "In One Ear", while Johnny Hunter, Pleasure Club Label favourite, closes things off with the drum heavy percussion of "89' Brakes". Capricorn aka Dutch producer and DJ Hans Weekhout originally released the '20Hz' 3 track EP on R&S sub-label Global Cuts to much acclaim.

A record that was literally everywhere in '93 and still rocks any club today, '20Hz' is undoubtedly an all-time anthem with it's combination of rolling, thunderous drums, glacial marimba-like melodies and a tense trance inducing atmosphere that literally lifts the dancefloor to another place. 'Didn't I' is also a proper old-school peak-time stormer, it's uptempo, dripping in positive vibes with sampled soulful vocals and chopped up drum breaks all encapsulated within a real rave sensibility. Closing out the EP we are treated to 'For The Soul, Body & Mind' which is a much darker, deeper and menacing vibe than the previous cuts. More in line with the earliest fringes of jungle, hardcore and bleep tehcno the track takes us on a journey into the heart of the night with it's bass heavy and intricate sound programming and breakbeats, proving that Hans Weekhout was an extremely versatile and open minded producer. Overall, a truly classic and essential EP from the heyday of European house and techno that still packs a punch today!

Die Orakel reveals Lake Lemuria EP by Poly Chain, a full-on electro emission loaded with relics of British 90s IDM. The pun intending Max For Death commences the sonic diffusion with booming bass drums, reverberating acid line, plus an elevating meandering melody. Latter qualities extend and modulate subsequently, in variations joined by slowly shifting atmospheric pads and fast paced electroid geostructures, rendering a polychrome four-track braindance-scape.

Andrey and Stas aka Radial Gaze, one of the freshest production duos to emerge from Russia’s vibrant underground scene, are set to release their ‘Refined’ EP on April 23, 2021. Due out on Berlin-based independent label Thisbe Recordings, the project features three original tracks and two remixes. Drawing on Andrey’s background as a resident DJ at Skotny Dvor club and Stas’ background as a sound designer and both theatre and musical director, ‘Refined’ is a perfect representation of the dramatic club music the duo are known for.

People, listen to the signals: when the club life is reawakening, DJ Hell returns with the album House Music Box (Past, Present, No Future).
In contrast to its predecessor album Zukunftsmusik (2017), with his new work Hell looks back to the glorious early days of House and Techno in Chicago, Detroit and New York City.
Obvious references are the heroes that vibrated the dancefloor from the late 80s, i.e. luminaries like Ron Hardy, Frankie Knuckles and Lil’ Louis from the Chicago house scene, or the legendary radio shows of The Electrifying Mojo from Detroit. Not to be forgotten are, of course, the NYC House of Larry Levan or the Nu Groove records from the early 90s – all of them served as musical godfathers for Hell’s House Music Box.

Back to the roots. In line with this, Hell’s opus number six emerged as a classic album: House Music Box simply comprises eight gripping new bangers from the groove manufacturer that is the super gigolo Hell. The record is not only a concept album about the beginnings of electronic DJ and club music, but also a danceable history lesson. Exemplifying that is already the superb first single: ‘Out of Control’ is a mightily stomping dancefloor monster where a killer bassline and an infectious synth riff meet. A vocal sample rightly demands ‘Don’t stop!’, because the magic that Hell created with his controllers leaves one in pure ecstasy of happiness.

The songs ‘Freakshow’ and ‘House Music’ are a musical bow for the innovative originators of house in the windy city. On ‘Freakshow’, the vocoder vocals ‘Ron Hardy is the true creator of house music’ recall the prematurely deceased DJ who was best known for his eclectic sets and radical edits. Hardy used to deejay in what was the successor of the Warehouse, the legendary ‘Music Box’ club, eponymous for the new album. On ‘House Music’, nomen est omen naturally applies: over the flawless house from the quality brand of Hell, he loops various samples, fragments of sentences such as ‘Acid comes from house music’, ‘Techno comes from house’, ‘Foundation of house music is’, or ‘Chicago house music’. Through their persistent repetition plus grooving beats, a hypnotic effect soon arrives, so that the music – thanks to the magic production of Hell – starts to speak.

On ‘Electrifying Mojo’, on the other hand, Hell honours the visionary and enigmatic Charles Johnson a.k.a. The Electrifying Mojo, whose radio show (airing from 1977 until the mid 80s) had a substantial influence on the development of techno in Detroit. As he frequently played Kraftwerk, for instance, the publicly shy Electrifying Mojo emerged as a key facilitator of future electronic music in the spirit of the Detroit-Dusseldorf axis.

Almost self-evidently, Kraftwerk - the grey eminence of German electronic music – shaped the background of Hell’s new record too, via the usage of vocoder vocals as a rhythmic element or the bass frequencies as the carrying foundation for each track. Clearly recognizable is the influence of Kraftwerk’s 1986 work Electric Café (now: Techno Pop) on the groovy track ‘Tonstrom’. Fans of the ‘industrial folk music’ will hardly be surprised, as this was Kraftwerk’s working title for the record. Along with sound poetic vocals, Hell tickles a cool funk from the warm machine sounds over nimble bass lines, as on House Music Box he uses – not only for this track – the same analogue synths from the seventies as Kraftwerk once did.

The oeuvre of DJ Hell is famously characterised by his artistic desire to have a different approach to each album, while at the same time constants provide inner cohesiveness and cross references. One example would be the theme of automobiles, as an influence of Kraftwerk’s ‘Autobahn’: just think of songs like ‘Hellracer’ or ‘Car Car Car’. The car motive is again present on House Music Box, with the ambitious track ‘GPS’. Conceptually speaking it is a highlight of the record: over sparse Roland drum machine beats, we can hear the female computer voice of a navigation device devising the fastest route to ‘destination Berlin nightlife’. This almost has a double meaning, as once inside the club, the music will guide the dancers.

No DJ Hell album, without cover versions. Or, should we better call his idiosyncratic electronic editions of established hits new originals – referring to a term that Laibach coined. This definitely holds true for ‘The Revolution Will Not Be Televised’: his update of Gil Scott Heron’s soul classic turned into a veritable 4-on-the-floor version. The slogan, which originally came from the Black Power movement, carved out a remarkable career, not only thanks to several new versions, but equally alienated as an advertising slogan for bar chains. The fact that Hell takes up this track in the days of YouTube, Instagram and Facebook illustrates us today that the idea of a political revolution is long gone. For that reason, all he keeps from the wordy original is its headline while the impulsive beats prove all more, that at least the revolution of the dancefloor is nowhere near over.

Past, Present, No Future – even if Hell’s deep bow to the trailblazers and pioneers of electronic club music was already completed when the corona pandemic broke out, the subtitle of House Music Box proved apt even so in the light of the circumstance that especially the club scene is seriously affected from the coercive measures of the crisis. It was therefore quite prophetic that on ‘Jimi Hendrix’ you can hear pieces of the last interview that the guitarist gave shortly before his controversial death. „I can’t build anything right now, you know, because of the things that are happing right now. I just have to lay back and think about it all.” House Music Box is, in many ways, the right record at the right time. Because as DJ Hell speaks about his album: ‘House Music for me has always been a spiritual experience, a higher, different form of communication, so to speak’. So, let’s listen carefully what he reports about his musical excursions in the Past, Present and Future of House.

Trax 4 The Club pays hommagge to the its heritage, but shoots way beyond the treaden template. Tongue-in-cheek and swinging widely, this one hits far more carefully than expected, yet all the more satisfying when it does!

On the flip it?s Biri deploying his rigid style of layering sounds which he makes seem fluid and lively, never changing things up too soon or too late. By such his drive along the meticulously shaped arps on Snox101 stays a constant thriller, while Through The Fields becomes an ambient-leaning excursion through time and space, opening up the body and mind.
