French Fries - Change The Past Fred P Remixes Ep

The label say "While the 'Kepler' planter is still investigated it's time to get some reports from the ongoing interplanetary mission. Remixing tracks is not an easy task and only solid cosmic craftsmanship would do the job. The ClekClekBoom orbital station has luckily found two special extra crew members for this tricky and delicate operation.

Planet A sector is covered by an already legend among electronic music producers, the man Fred P from NYC. His reshape of 'Change the Past' takes us to a nebulous journey filled with a multitude of sonic details and surrounded by some dreamy astral pads. Less dark than the original version, this slow jam keep an infectious rhythm steady all along and would be perfect for a rooftop session when the sun hit the sky.

The Planet B sector is occupied by an italian prodigy, the not-so new comer Chevel. Playing with the cryptic 'Change the Past' vocals, his mix turn the track into a minimal boogie affair toned down by subtle key chords and interstellar bleeps pulsating around heavy toms drums. The next exoplanet being at billions light years away, enjoy these two supernovas while waiting during the trip..."

Funkstörung - Laid Out Remixes

This is the future right now.

B: Fear Colours (Wrangler Remix)Inspired by the post-punk legacy of her hometown, Manchester, England, as well as classic college rock of the '80s and early '90s Lonelady's Julie Campbell began her forays into art punk by making four-track recordings with her guitar and drum machine. Source Direct - Approach And Identify (incl. Demdike Stare Remix)

Boddika's Nonplus label will release a series of 12-inches mixing classic Source Direct with new remixes.

Jim Baker is a pioneering drum & bass and jungle artist who's been recording solo as Source Direct since 1999 (before then the project was a duo with Phil Aslett). On June 8th Nonplus will issue a 12-inch that has a Blawan remix of "Black Rose" alongside the 1996 original. That'll be followed by a record featuring '95 cut "Approach & Identify" backed by a remix from Demdike Stare. These release will be available on vinyl and digital formats—it'll be the first time the original tunes have been available digitally.

"I first met Jim around '97/'98 at The End nightclub in Central London," Boddika told RA. "I wasn't sure who he was when I first met him. I thought he was one of the guys from Lock Stock And Two Smoking Barrels at first, but soon realised he wasn't. By that time I was an avid listener of anything Source Direct were doing and their tracks were 'buy on sight' for me. The Source Direct discography was in many ways a blueprint for lots of jungle/d&b that would come throughout the following years and has stood the test of time unbelievably well."

He adds: "There are a few reasons why we decided to re-release and remaster the SD Recordings catalogue, the first one being that it's never been available digitally before. The second is that we both think it's something that needs to be heard by a new generation who have never had the privilege and who may not own a turntable. Some of the records are hard to come by these days and if you do find them on Discogs, they'll set you back a few quid.

Thirdly, it's something we've spoken about a few times over the last couple of years and I personally thought now is a better time than ever to unleash this project, especially as there's been a growing interest in old jungle recently—it wouldn't be right to leave this music out of the loop! We also wanted to breathe new life into the project by getting remixes done to accompany the original tracks. We decided to ask artists from different scenes and genres to make use of the samples and get their interpretations on the original music."

More remix 12-inches will follow, culminating with most of the Source Direct back catalogue, much of which has never been made available digitally, being remastered and re-released. We spoke with Baker via email to discuss the project.

What are your thoughts on having your music remastered and reissued for a new generation of listeners

I'm extremely excited about working with Boddika. This gives a new generation the chance to own tracks that haven't been available until now and also introduces the Source Direct sound into the techno/deep house scenes—music I've always been a fan of and an avid buyer of since an early age. I always felt my music was ahead of its time, even within the early years of D&B. The Source Direct sound has always stood out from the crowd and I've consistently pushed myself creatively to produce original, cutting-edge club music that also sounds great within many other listening environments. So to release the original Source Direct tracks for this new generation who missed the golden years of infamous clubs and raves gives them the opportunity to re-live the excitement and energy I got from going out in my younger days and the chance enjoy that buzz of getting your hands on a new vinyl release.

What do you think of the Demdike Stare and Blawan remixes

Blawan's remix of "Black Rose" perfectly captures the dark tensions of the original track and uses the samples in new creative ways, which make a stomping techno track that retains the menacing visual concept of the original. Being the first artist to remix a Source Direct track is something I was looking forward to, and Blawan has certainly produced a great remix. Both the remix and the re-mastered original sound totally fresh and unique among current techno and D&B.

Demdike Stare have completely ripped up the script with their remix of "Approach & Identify," taking it into realms I never thought possible. It transports you a million light years away, upon which you enter new worlds of imagination. You can only hope for a wormhole 'out there' to return to normality. I'm very proud of both these releases and am looking forward to letting the future projects free within human kind.

Luke Vibert - Bizarster

Seventh full-length under his own name with others having been released on Mo Wax, Warp and most recently Hypercolour. Luke first came to prominence in 1994 with his debut Wagon Christ album 'Phat Lab Nightmare' on Rising High records which was quickly followed by the evergreen classic 'Throbbing Pouch' with which he cemented both his sound and reputation. He has released on Rephlex and Ninja Tune as well as major label Virgin too. What makes Luke's music so essential is his rare ability to blur the boundaries between genres by combining his irresistibly wonky dayglo funk with a British sensibility. Put another way, Luke's music is informed by UK dance's history. But 'Bizarster' is no empty eulogy, it's a hall of mirrors with a happy bounce, re-tooled with skill, and always with a sense of fun. It's these things that make the hip-hop speed bleep 'n' bass of opener 'Knockout' seems completely natural, or 'Officer's Club' with it's funky disco samples, reggae vocals and joyous synths sounding like the kind of delirious idea no one else could come up with. A track like 'I Can Phil It' is a piece of sampladelic hip hop with a punning title, but that's not to say he can't play it serious. 'Manalog' for instance, which is sharp spiralling low-slung synth funk, a gloriously deep track, while something like 'L-Tronic' is top draw spaced-out electro. The title track's cut and paste space-age samples remind one of his Jean-Jacques Perrey collaboration and 'War' is the type of groovy instrumental hip-hop reminiscent of DJ Shadow at his peak. The album finishes on the fun-filled vortex of 'Don't Fuck Around', a cut-up jungle masterpiece with heart in throat chords. Enjoy the ride.

Ryo Murakami - Depth Of Decay 2x12"

Ryo Murakami is now ready to launch his new project/label 'Depth of Decay' and its first release is his own debut album. Murakami.

Patronen - Twin Paradox Series 001

A genuinely unique project; Fundamental's Alex Stark created this highly limited and beautifully presented project via his love for Cygnus. This led to Biosoft Records which led to the discovery of Patronen, a man who made two album's worth of material (and probably more) on analogue machines in the early 90s and refuses to move from shadows. Twin Paradox celebrates this prolific, formative work across two albums. With the classic electro angularities and epic synthetic cosmicity are very much of their time, there's an overwhelming sense of timelessness and relevance to the project too. We reckon if you listen to cuts such as the poignant, reflective "Abstand" or the distorted, shuffling phrases and positive harmonics of "Karlsruhe Nach Basel" in 20 years time, they'll still sound just as icy and futuristic. We also reckon you need to jump on this investment now! With only 100 printed, this will sell out very quickly.

Sons Of Melancholia - Silencer

A very welcome return to the label release schedule by Belgian artist Sons of Melancholia. After having released his debut album 'Beauty is Imperfection' on diametric. in 2014 and a very successful contribution to John Beltran's compilation 'Music for Machines' for Delsin Records shortly after, it is with great pleasure to present the second album 'Silencer'. David Nizet has created another beautiful body of work, giving us another glimpse into his melancholic world. Yearning beautiful pads and strings are combined with eclectic beats and percussion patterns. Deep bass pulses provide the foundation for refined melodies and experimental rhythm structures. The album transports a feeling of hope, despair and the urge for completeness and you can feel the honesty and integrity of David's music throughout. Yet again an album that fans of early 90's electronica and ambient techno will love. Check it out. 150 manufactured CD's in recycled cardboard packaging. Digital release to follow 5-6 weeks after initial release.

Craig Bratley - Buy The Ticket, Take The Ride

Stalwart label Tsuba continues it's journey into eclectic musical territory with its next full-length project, 'Buy The Ticket, Take The Ride', the outstanding debut LP by English dark and dirty disco champion Craig Bratley.
For a couple of years now Craig Bratley has been considered as the northern branch of the so-called Scrutton Street axis, which sees producers like Andrew Weatherall, Timothy J Fairplay and Scott Fraser all conjure up apoco-disco sounds in their celebrated London studio. Bratley himself also runs Magic Feet, an assured label that deals in plenty of chugging electronic sounds and Craig has also released on labels like Weatherall's well-regarded Bird Scarer, Is It Balearic Recordings, Robsoul and Instruments of Rapture.
The ten track album finds Bratley exploring his fine collection of analogue machines and dark wave disco visions, with beatless ambient tracks, twinkly drug chug and tobacco stained grooves all sitting next to each other in perfect harmony.

Danny Passarella & Perc - Videodrome

''The television screen is the retina of the mind's eye'' David Cronenberg, Videodrome 1983
Passarella Death Squad lynchpin Danny Passarella collaborates with London techno producer Perc to create 5 soundscapes echoing erotica viewed through supercharged synapses to accompany the recent series of artworks created by Danny Passarella that share similar voyeuristic obsessions.
Lavishly colourful, the listener is drawn towards them, like an obsessive James Woods slithering into his television in the climactic sequence of Cronenberg's horror classic Videodrome.
Available as a limited edition 12" see-through blue vinyl release, the 5 tracks act as an abstraction and intensification of the mood set with their previous collaboration 'Temperature's Rising'.

K'alexi Shelby - Vertigo / U Get Down

We started 'The Classic Series' featuring tracks that we love, bought, played out and which we have the feeling more people
should know about them.
For this first edition, It is a great honor for us to welcome such a living legend, a pioneer from the Chicago House scene: Mr K Alexi
Shelby ! At the age of 12 he was already moving in the right circles, befriending Frankie Knuckles and Ron Hardy whilst frequenting the famous Warehouse. His upbringing in Chicago in the 70s and 80s meant that he was exposed to a range of genres and different styles of music including Stevie Wonder, Prince, Curtis Mayfield and David Huff. These same names would prove to be the roots of his influences.
This projet includes two classic and timeless moments of Chicago house & techno music.
On A side : 'K' Alexi's Vertigo', a massive, rare and very demand Acid track from K-Alexi. Released in 1989 on legendary Transmat
records, already play by major players like Robert Hood, Derrick May, Dj Rolando, Mike Huckaby or Martyn.
On B Side : 'You Get Down', previously released in 1997 on his Nepenta Lp 'Brings You Absolute Power', a new edit here called 'U
Get Down'. A real piece of Chicago Jackin' House !

Recorded in Maryland in 1975 and intended to be listened to while high, this is a high point (pun semi-unintended) of outsider/stoner/idiot-savant musique concrete.
Originally released on vinyl, it's a sui generis blend of primitive synths, treated vocals, scraped metals and "field recordings" of a bong, all lovingly dosed with liberal amounts of delay and reverb.

Matt Large - Ephemera

Mau5trap

mau5trap announces the signing of LA-based Producer/Composer/DJ, Matt Lange, with the forthcoming release of his debut LP, Ephemera. Hand-selected by deadmau5 himself via twitter, Lange delivers his full-length debut with an intricately dark, textured, groove-heavy work of art, set to release on the 11th of September.

Ephemera's title reflects the restless innovation in Lange's musicianship. "The album's really a snapshot of where I am right now as an artist," Lange explains. "It's this turning point where I have one foot in the world of dance music, and the other foot in a whole different direction." Lange's debut release on mau5trap reveals both the creative adventurousness and exquisite precision at the core of his sound. This may be his first LP, but the Berklee School of Music grad is a vet when it comes to musicianship, with most of Ephemera's tracks starting out on guitar, piano, or a modular synthesizer.

Comprised of an eerie, dark breed of electronic music, Ephemera is also simultaneously brimming with raw energy and emotion. The album's lead single, "My Love Aside," is an infectious atmospheric-driven track, combined with mutated club-ready techno. Not one to stick to a formula, the album also displays Lange's love for vocally-driven, left of center experimental numbers like "Lying to Myself." Throughout, Ephemera is infused with an intense, menacing aura that challenges listeners' ears and demonstrates Lange's depth of connection between emotion and music.

Throughout Lange's career, he has amassed quite the resume including helping to build and shape Above & Beyond's underground-leaning label, Anjunadeep. The lifelong musician was called upon by BT to co-engineer his critically acclaimed, Grammy Award-nominated album These Hopeful Machines, and produced Glenn Morrison's Canadian Platinum hit "Goodbye." Lange officially reworked "Numb" by RCA recording artist, Usher, The M Machine's "Shadow in the Rose Garden," and "Ascendency" from the official soundtrack for Microsoft's marquee game, Halo 4. He also currently has a remix in the works for Grammy-winning artist Imogen Heap, slated to release later this year.

Anyone lucky enough to catch one of Matt Lange's DJ sets has experienced the unique blend of dark grooves he gives each and every night. From playing some of the most prominent festivals in the world such as EDC, TomorrowWorld and SXSW, to the intimate club nights he plays regularly around North America, be sure to catch him when you have the chance as he starts touring heavily in support of this release.

More musical predilection in his pinky than most producers' entire catalog - MixMag

He's been lauded for his incredible sound design, outstanding vocal production, and his ability to meld beautiful melodies with solid grooves. His attention to detail and unwillingness to conform to one specific genre's 'standards' make his production style matchable by only a few others out there - BeatsMedia

Natalia Martenez Ordotez (n.m.o) - Natalia Martinez Ordonez

File under 'Military Space Music AND/OR Fluxus Techno'

Tempo is a decisive factor in how we relate to music. Whole genre separations and notions of taste can revolve around the BPM at which samples are triggered or musicians play. In live music BPM is obviously often a fluctuating quantity, a loose constrict affected by the musicians' spirits / audience / etc. Electronic music genres are usually more rigid in their adoption of a tempo and the BPM often comes to define a scene's aesthetic. NMO have used this release to play with the really quite hefty and serious concept of speed (& slowness), timing, and BPM. 'Natalia Martínez Ordóñez' is a studio recording of an outdoor piece commissioned by CO² Festival in Beirut in 2014, where the initial idea of a one hour piece has been condensed in a 30 minute record. The piece has been performed in Beirut, Krakow, and London.

The sections are divided by pace, with the record opening at 60bpm and ending at 150bpm, where each section is introduced with a humble metronome and clearly separated by test signal-esque tones. The instrumentation is affectingly sparse, limited to electronic effects and that most basic unit of rhythmic interval, the snare drum. The sounds naturally increase in intensity as they are played faster, the electronics appear more manic and the effects gradually build to begin to create shifting sub-rhythms and hypnotic textures, resulting in a musical form that N.M.O themselves have termed 'As Strict As Possible'. The overall tonality of the piece appears to be continuously shifting up in pitch, although whether this is intentional, accidental or intentionally accidental is intriguingly unclear. Played live the sections are delineated by the release of RGB coloured smoke grenades and flares, here represented by swathes of white noise, hissing away throughout the end of each fragment, perhaps signalling a climax or release from the rigidness and precision of each 3 minute experiment.

The second side begins at the pace of a respectable techno track's pulse, but the triplet feel adds an atypical dazed lurch to the opening. Where the A side of the record feels sharp, precise, and spaced out, the B side sweeps us directly onto the weirder side of the dance floor - the drum kit becomes more fleshed out as a joyous climax of pounding, rolling percussion joins revving synths and swells of static. Without realising suddenly you find yourself deep into a groove and here you can't help but think of those ships where people row to the hammering drum but are driven to a dizzying level of insect like efficiency. By the end we have reached some sort of avant-acid approximation, frantic and intense in its delivery, towards a point so disassociated from our point of departure it feels connected only by those subtle shifts in speed that each act as a step to the piece's next level.

Having previously released records on Anòmia and The Death of Rave records, N.M.O. also have a forthcoming double 12' on Diagonal records, and a split 12' with EVOL on Le Petit Mignon.

This first pressing of 'Natalia Martínez Ordóñez' is limited to 300 copies with beautifully hand silk screen printed sleeves by The Positive Press, London.

Sleeve design and art direction handled by The Immaculate Heart Studio / James Hines, in coordination with N.M.O.

This quote was running through Robot Koch's head as re-located to LA from Berlin. After spending the last 15 years in the German capital, and being spurred on by seismic shifts in both his private and working life, being in a different place, culture, and society brought on the thought that while our conscious mind moves along, the past, present and future all co-exist. This formed the basis, concept and, idea behind his new album Hypermoment.

After taking a break from releasing albums to relocate to LA and rediscover himself, Robot Koch returns with his first new album in 4 year, his first on Modeselektors hallowed Monkeytown imprint, and follow up his EP Tsuki.

Hypermoment, while retaining Robot's much loved hallmark's, is a true evolution of his sound and style. Driving deeper into more intimate territory with swathes of warm, saturated, analog sounds, real world field recordings, and lush pianos and soundscapes, this is the first of any of Robot's works to feature his own voice (as can be heard on Care, Serenade and Fernwood). The field recordings were captured along Robot's nomadic writing trips to New York, Berlin, the infamous Joshua Tree in California, as well as his new home base of Silver Lake in Los Angeles, where he was constantly writing and re-writing the tracks to fit in with the basis and ethos of the album.

The album features some familiar faces from Robot's world, LA based schwarzmodul who features on his previous Tsuki EP makes an appearance, as well as Delhia de France from his recent California Dreamin' collaboration (which was used on the trailer for Warner Bros' summer blockbuster San Andreas), who is also from the band the Pentatones, who Robot produced and album for in 2014. Robot has also brought through some of his favourite new emerging artists such as the UK's Fassine (featuring on Spine), and Mree from NYC (featuring on Separated), as well as California based Stephen Henderson (Dreams).

While being Robot's most rounded work, Hypermoment is also his most personal to date, dealing break ups, culture clashes, and transitions, it optimises Alan Moore' quote which so heavily informed it. While the past is there to be learnt from, and the future will always be with us, our consciousness will continue to move forward.

2 Track 12 inch on new Swamp 81 sublabel, 81 from Mancunian MC Chunky.
Following appearances on other class outlets such as Hessle Audio or Hit & Run, Oun_C highlights Chunky's talents as a producer. The title track is centred around a subtly syncopated beat, spiked with vocal fragments and accentuated synth tones: they coin the cold, nocturnal ambience of the two-piece 12'', playing a crucial part on the rhythmically denser B side as well.
