Philipp Quehenberger's music has existed as a consistent strain amongst the Austrian underground for the last 15 years. His output is a cracking combination of dance floor zeal and deep disco disorientation. A perpetually rotating sphere which blends genres whilst bending the body and mind. Quehenberger's sweaty cerebrum is significantly showcased on his second full length for Editions Mego.

'Content' ventures deeper into Quehenberger's world of electro noir, ketamine cool and sordid soul. 'Fucked' is a monumental drive through a gloriously queasy and sleazy terrain which leads into the rolling rhythms of last years killer 'Uff Uff 12"". Here an oozing psychedelic tapestry folds amongst muffled voices resulting in a striking propulsive chant. 'Startled' further charts the depths of dance and disorientation as striding rhythms coalesce amongst gloriously diminishing synths. 'Extended' bounces around an ecstatic carnival atmosphere where an abject ringleader swerves amongst swirling organs and a thick organic beat. 'Content' is brimming with hard driving dance music. ENTROPY TRAX, is the new sister label to Kompakt's WALLS helmed ECSTATIC imprint. Expect limited edition hand artworked white-label 12"s from a variety of artists, focussed on experimental dance floor sounds.

The debut release comes from DFA's Gavin Russom (The Crystal Ark/Black Meteoric Star) with a titanic double-header that announces the first of a series of releases for the label. Recording under his own name for the first time since 2011's 'Night Sky', this material finds Russom creating visceral and hypnotic dance floor tracks.

"I read in Jonathon Miller Weisberger's fantastic new book 'Rainforest Medicine' that in the urban version of the Yage ceremony the plant concoction they use is called 'La Purga' - literally 'The Purge' in Spanish. I think the song evokes the experience of feverishness and the odd combination of ecstasy and terror, even paranoia, that one gets when feverish - the dreams, the way that nothing seems to quite fit together right, the waves of hot and cold and the ultimate clearing of the body that comes when it has run its course."

Gavin Russom on 'Enthroned':
"David Brown's book 'Santeria Enthroned' was sitting on my kitchen table as I worked on this track and the titled seemed to fit it well after finishing it. I wanted to evoke a complex image of empowered femininity in the track, much like the images of orishas like Ochun, Yemaya and Oya that Brown describes in his writing. I was creating a kind of praise poem in sounds that describe a distinctly female type of energy. 'Drops' are eschewed in favor of rushes and shifts. There's an aspect of connectedness, especially with the powers of nature such as the river, the ocean and the wind that I wanted to capture...".

Trek With Quintronic are the duo, formed from the ashes of prog rock band Masque in 1979. They recorded two pioneering albums of unique electronic rock. 'Landing Plus' compiles the complete discography of Trek With Quintronic on a double vinyl for the first time in over 30 years. Trek With Quintronic wrote songs with a powerful sound, myriads of compositional ideas, synthetic noises and catchy melodies. Paul's rather unique vocals lie somewhere between David Bowie and Richard Butler of the Psychedelic Furs.nThis collection highlights a lost duo with a big sound on par with Ultravox, Human League, OMD or Devo

Jon Phonics (Jonathan Phoenix) has been steadily making a name for himself as a producer with releases on the likes of Giles Peterson's Brownswood Bubblers and a limited edition Cassette Tape through Bleep in 2013 (that sold out in under an hour). His signature brand of deep textured, soulful productions is hard to pin point; drawing as much from early 90's hip-hop as it does early 00's grime & 80s funk. Over the past 12 months his own label/club night, Astral Black, has been building a reputation as a platform for forward thinking producers in the burgeoning experimental hip hop and new wave grime scenes. The likes of Jaisu, Inkke and Opal Block have all contributed to the labels hand screen printed cassette series and there are some seriously heavy 12"s planned for the coming months. Packed out club residencies in both Glasgow & London are a testament to how this label has grown.


First Word is delighted to welcome Phonics to the fold for the release of his 'White Neckle' EP - 7 tracks that blend delicate melodies with tough beats and powerful top lines, with the addition of South-London rapper Rup and soul vocalist, Yasine lending their vocal talents to the mix. Having received early radio support from the likes of Alexander Nut, LuckyMe's The Blessings & Hyperdub's Scractha DVA - 'White Neckle' is another forward step for the talented producer. This artist has been getting a bit of attention in the press recently so we thought we'd introduce you to his most recent release on Love Love Records. Straight from the übergründé of the Berlin techno scene, Australian anti-pop superstar Anklepants

Italian producer My Dry Wet Mess, aka Giovanni Civitenga, is a name that has resonated in the world of left field/beats since it's exciting fledgling years. Though his father is the bass player for Ennio Morricone's orchestra and a studio guitarist on numerous Italian records, from a young age Gio was drawn towards hip hop. At the age of 14, his father gave him a sampler and an Atari, and his beatmaking experiments grew boundless. Having released albums on Daedleus' Magical Properties imprint and Flying Lotus' Brainfeeder venture, it is a pleasure for Fine Grains to present the 'Laptop Lapdance EP' - his first vinyl release.

My Dry Wet Mess' unique sound is recognisable for it's multi-layered intricacy and offbeat charm. Skittering beats slide through surreal melodies and distorted vocals or keys. An uplifting and awkward dance-inducing experience often ensues. In 'Laptop Lapdance', Civitenga encapsulates these elements with four engrossing story-telling tracks. Remixes come from Hyperdub' Ikonika, Dam Mantle and Auntie Flo. The latter starting with a dreamy analogue rework of 'Nailed Scale', a gentle breezy groove with a plethora of subtle details peaking out from the undergrowth. If Auntie Flo's remix is a curious walk along the jungle path, Dam's Mantle's 'Nailed Scale' remix is head first into the depths. Dark and prowling, Mantle strips down the emotive elements to tribal claps and creepy background echoes. Stepping further into techno territory, Ikonika's 'Scenario Adjustment remix' highlights the metallic and futuristic elements of 'Eyelids' Secret'. A stomping mechanical rhythm goes for the jugular from start to finish. In her 'Shy' remix of the track, Ikonika wraps up with a beat-less cinematic twist. An epic and ethereal finish that could easily befit a futuristic sci-fi film score.

A Sagittariun returns to Elastic Dreams after 2013's incredible debut album, 'Dream Ritual'. If one might say the french Dj/Producer has lured his previous album Micro Mega into half-tempo or Pop, his intentions are clear on this one: Getting Mean. The result is a raw & simple 4-track EP, mainly focused on rhythms perfectly mixable into any type of playlist.

Frigio Records are extremely proud to add one of Spain's premier electronic artists to its roster. For more than ten years Boris Divider has been crafting machine music, carving frigid beats and lush melodies for Semantica, Satamile and his own Drivecom imprint.
In recent years, following EPs like Surface and Aeon, the Cuenca based artist has changed his canvas. The colder coils of Electro have been replaced with warmer tones. Parallel sees Boris take up the analogue brush for some wondrously vivid soundscapes. The title piece is a distanced work of twilight electronics. Rippling waves blur, resonating arcs soaring into the stratosphere for a deep, ambient and intoxicating track. Label boss Juanpablo is up on remix duty. Percussion scorn is poured onto the original. Samples haunt while acid lines invade and claps maraud for a bruising interpretation. Arcanoid, a trailblazer of Iberian electronics, debuts on Frigio with two takes on the title track (Version 1 & 2). Version1 is broken down and rebuilt, Industrial sorrows swirled in staggered drums and bulging bass. Beats are bolstered for the hardened 'Version2.' Melodies orbit, stretching against a fierce gravitational pull as tempos rise into the otherworldly.
The final installment, Tangential, sees Boris Divider return. Clean arpeggios rumble, clicks sinking into a thick analogue soup. Dense bars prowl in a haze before lances of light break to an awe-inspiring future dawn. Cerebral sounds and dancefloor hammers from the heart of Spain.

A gorgeous 6-tracker by Norwegian techno/electro/acid artist Retape. The EP takes off where Drexciya and related projects such as The Other People People Place left it in the early 2000s. The title track takes it away and is the most technoid of all with a driving bassline and open hi-hats while long stretched melodies finish it off; this one sucks you onto the dance floor as if it were one big whirlpool. The second cut "Coir" is a serene a downtempo 4/4 track that gets you overwhelmed with an otherworldly melody sneakily coming in about midway. "EMN" then, pulls you straight underwater with its hard hitting snares, plastic bassline and acid feel. The tempo goes up with "Cars", a delay-heavy spaced out acid track for unstable dance floors. The following track "Rotation" is a beatless excursion into the world of clinical synthesized sci-fi music. The incorrectly named "Moving Down" is the final track and a true upper: high speed melodic electro with a touch of melancholia. Six times lucky, this one.

Still fresh from his debut full length Traces last year, Delta Dunktionen is back with his first EP of the year. As well a new track, it features a special Karenn remix of 'Onkalo', a track previously released on Traces, as well as 'Challenger' from the same album.
The first original is 'Sun Storm' with its tumbling Chicago drums, chattering claps and sci-fi swirls all adding up to something that's as heady as it is futuristic. 'Challenger' - previously cd/digi only - on the other hand sounds like a much more calm and serene trip through the cosmos, with slowed electro stylings and plenty of occult details coming over like the soundtrack to a film as much as a darkened dancefloor.

Uncompromising techno pair Blawan and Pariah a.k.a. Karenn turns in an unsurprisingly brutish version of 'Onkalo' that spits and skips through industrial drums, fizzing machine noises and sombre horn sounds. Evil!

Muhk are proud to present their debut EP as a small label that specializes in hardware made electronic music. Our debut EP produced by Finland's Matti Turunen; one half of the Morphology electro duo, is Matti's 2nd solo EP and within the 3 hypnotic techno/house/electro analogue jams, Matti shows us the beauty of producing electronic music the real way with synths and clattering drum machines. Ob seine DJ-Sets, die zunehmenden Auftritte als Live-Act oder mit eindrucksvollen Releases auf Marcel Dettmann Records und seinem eigenen Label ACR - Patrick Gräser zählt als Resident-DJ im Berghain zu den spannenden, neuen Gesichtern des Labels. Nach der - Breathe EP', seiner Debüt-Veröffentlichung auf Ostgut Ton, ist sein erster Langspieler nicht nur eine Frage der Zeit, sondern gar der logische Schritt gewesen.

- Code' ist ein Statement, denn es spielt und kokettiert nicht nur mit der Gretchenfrage der elektronischen Musik, welche Aufgaben und Perspektiven eine Techno-LP demonstrieren sollte, sondern stellt auch unsere gängigen Hörerwartungen in Frage. Denn während zumeist das Primat der Funktionalität als Paradigma in Stein gemeißelt zu sein scheint, kehrt ACR der bloßen Ansammlung von Dancefloor-Tracks den Rücken zu. Allesamt im letzten Jahr entstanden, stellen die zwölf Tracks ein originäres, andächtiges und erwachsenes Soundkonzept vor, das sich wie eine nebelverzogene Zeitreise präsentiert - sowohl durch die Einflüsse und Geschichte von Gräser, als auch durch Teilgebiete der Tanzmusik: von Detroit-inspirierten Elegien über den UK-Sound mit seinen Breakbeats und IDM-Bezügen bis hin zur warmen Seite des Berliner Techno der 90er-Jahre. Trotz der mitunter nostalgischen Tiefe, umweht - Code' eine geheimnisvolle Aura sowie mystische Stimmung, die sich wie ein roter Faden durch die Stücke zieht.

Denn die ist nicht etwa eine Compilation im Sinne von: paar Kumpels anrufen, eine Handvoll Schubladen-Tracks abstauben, das Ganze irgendwie zusammenstoppeln und raushauen. Tatsächlich geht es hier um die Kunst der Selektion. Um Überlegung, Ansporn, Auswahl, Prozess - also um eine ganze Menge eher mühevoller Tätigkeiten, denen man die Mühe am Ende gar nicht mehr anhört, weil alles so selbstverständlich und horizonterweiternd ineinander flutscht. Zwei Weisheiten aus dem Modeselektions-Einmaleins. Erstens: Eine Selektion ist immer so gut wie der Abstand zwischen ihren unterschiedlichsten Gliedern, je größer, desto besser. Zweitens: Eine Selektion ist umso besser, je öfter man überrascht wird und je mehr neue Entdeckungen zu machen sind. Bevor die Lichter angehen, hier noch ein paar harte Fakten: "Modeselektion Vol. 03" kommt erstmals ohne eigenen Modeselektor-Beitrag aus (vom Souleyman-Edit mal abgesehen), einfach, weil es so viel gute Musik von alten und neuen Freunden gab. Das Ganze ist daher erstmals auf einer Zweifach-CD zu haben, außerdem als Digital Bundle und, leicht abgespeckt, auch als Doppel-12-Inch-LP sowie auf zwei EP-Auskopplungen auf Vinyl. 19 Tracks, lauter süße Früchtchen. Das Maskottchen ist diesmal nicht umsonst der Ananasaffe.

Brussels-based Orphan Swords is a duo between Yannick Franck aka Räum, sound experimentalist & founder of Idiosyncratics label and Maze, producer & Bozar Electronic Arts Festival curator. Previously described as "industrial-slanted techno" or "new school industrial" by XLR8R or The Quietus, Orphan Swords' music results of the collision between Räum & Maze's widely different influences, including techno, noise or cold wave.

Orphan Swords has been recently remixed by SHXCXCHCXSH, Dwellings, Paul Purgas (Emptyset) and Exoteric Continent and collaborated with Ike Yard's Stuart Argabright.

In 2011 it got a little quiet around the co-productions of Fraenzen Texas and Ruede Hagelstein aka The Cheapers. But since the beginning of the new year the lights don`t go out in their studio doing beats and sound. Next to Releases on Areal Records and Bar25 the UY063 was born. Title of the name giving A-side goes back on a quote from Paris Hilton who wants to tell with 'Amazeballs' how super cool she finds things. Anyway the two artists made it real with their concise bassline which will make the people reliably squeak more than hobby DJane Hilton. On the B-side things turn a bit more severe: 'Egyptian Summer' quotes with samples the Arabic spring in Africa and produces a revolutionary ground mood which has never been heard before. On B2 however there are the cheaperesque absurdities on the microfon like we know them... depositing skillfully their own vocals in the belly of a hungry electro monster.

Erol Alkan delivers two reworks of the Manic Street Preachers track 'Europa Geht Durch Mich.'. While 'Mesmerise Eins' takes the track on a peak-time acid trip, the warped out 'Mesmerise Zwei' comes ready for the blurred moments just before sunrise. Both mixes feature the voice of German actress Nina Hoss

Europa Geht Durch Mich was originally recorded in Berlin's legendary Hansa Studios. It is taken from Manic Street Preachers' forthcoming 12th album 'Futurology'.

Produzent und Musiker deadmau5 hat seine neue große Vision fertiggestellt- eine, die sich wie ein Gesamtkunstwerk anfühlt: while(1<2) (gesprochen: 'while 1 is less than 2'). while(1<2) besteht aus insgesamt 25 Tracks und wird zum ersten Mal als Doppel-Album erscheinen. Was kann man nun von while(1<2) erwarten 'Es ist eine tolle Mischung aus dem heißen Scheiß, den ich machen wollte, und dem heißen Scheiß, den die Leute hören wollen oder von mir erwarten. Es ist eine ausgewogene Balance. Es ist jetzt nicht so wie, 'Oh, das ist ja voll die Kehrtwende, er macht jetzt smoothen Jazz'', sagt deadmau5. 'Als ich an meinem Live-Set gearbeitet habe, Setlists für die Show und solche Sachen, sind ein paar Tracks entstanden, die von Anfang bis Ende ziemlich gut zusammengepasst haben. Da habe ich gedacht 'Nun, wenn ich jemals ein Album oder diese Stück auf eine Art Album packe, dann ist das genau das richtige Format für die Anordnung dieser Tracks.' The 12 track album was written and produced since the turn of 2013 and mixed with Erol Alkan at 'The Phantasy Sound', the label's own studio in London. A difficult trick to master but like Carl Craig's 'More Songs About Food And Revolutionary Art', Plastikman's 'Consumed' or more recently the work of Four Tet, the album works as a cohesive whole rather than a disparate collection of tracks. Innovative and forward thinking, Drone Logic manages to draw influences from beyond the dancefloor via My Bloody Valentine, NEU! and Chris Carter while still having the techno pulse to scale the walls of any club. The wide array of plaudits and early adopters of Avery's music is proof of this, ranging from acid house legends like The Chemical Brothers, Andrew Weatherall and Richie Hawtin to the best of the new breed in Maya Jane Coles, James Holden and Factory Floor. Firmly established as one of the UK's most exciting new DJ / producers having cut his teeth in Weatherall's Shoreditch studio bunker, Drone Logic follows up Avery's universally acclaimed mix CD for London clubbing institution Fabric where he remains a resident, recent remixes for Primal Scream, The Horrors & Django Django and last year's Need Electric and Water Jump EPs on Alkan's Phantasy label. This summer sees him play at Bestival, Festival No.6 and the Green Man festival.




5. NAÏVE RESPONSE

The long awaited debut LP from Dark Sky is not entirely what you might expect from the London trio. After a string of club focused 12"s they delve deep to deliver a tender and uplifting offering entitled 'imagin.' To the sworn fan it may come as a surprise, but it will prove to be a pleasant one, as the evolution from the analogue metallic sounds that shaped their past discography naturally mature and slide into the sound palette of imagin.
Through heavy consumption of music from across the spectrum the trio's work has refined, and clearly echoes their heritage as kids of the 90's, referencing numerous influences the decade processed - the album bears traces of funk, post rock, a thick layer of trip hop, even balearic house, bossa nova, disco, 80ies pop and ambient. All of it heavily reverberated, stirred and shaken in Dark Sky's musical tumbler.
The outcome is captivating. Littered with sophisticated percussion, soft and subtle marimbas fused with sci-fi synths and tastefully delivered vocals throughout. Grey Reverend features on the lead single 'Silent Fall' to beautiful effect, with an outcome sitting somewhere between James Blake and Moderat. Elsewhere Cornelia (of Portico Quartet fame) delivers Elizabeth Fraser - like vocals on 'Nothing Chances,' 'Vivid' and 'Purple Clouds' providing a perfect soundtrack to the late summer.
Long standing Dark Sky fans will also be pleased to hear that there are more club orientated tracks on their too. 'Odyssey's' dark spacey arpeggios and growling bass line reminds us of their seminal electro-roller 'Confunktion,' but comes delivered complete with euphoric almost balearic stabs and straight stacked 4 x 4 hi-hats. 'Rainkist' is a soul laced dance floor ballade featuring vocals from an unlikely source in the form of d-Bridge with huge crossover potential, and 'Manuka' finally brings back the breakbeat with its percussive far-east vibes that evoke Truth Hurts & Rakim's 'Addictive,' which fittingly sums up this album.

Man/machine magician Boris Divider unleashes his fourth album... And, as with much of Fundamentals' current output, it's highly limited. Continuing his explorations and escapades into the darkest, iciest realms of electronic music, Deflector/Atractor is perhaps his most extensive collection to date as we're treated to shimmering ambient bliss ("Particle") to dreamy, skippy, robot-charming fracturism ("Mikrowelt") via his more classic, straight up funky electro ("Deflector"). Yet another bold march into the coded unknown for both Boris and Fundamentals, this can't be slept on.

Nine months after releasing 'Go Hard', Boys Noize gathered his friends and returns with an even more banging remix collection: Club Cheval get things started with a trademark punchy rework of "Excuse Me," an avalanche of musical excellence from the French quartet made up of Sam Tiba, Pelican Fly, MYD and Canblaster. Los Angeles based Salva keeps the energy flowing with a high octane remix of "Push Em Up" before Ultramajic's Aden aka Machinedrum delivers a bass-led, neonstreaked techno mix of "Inhale/Exhale." Pilo shows his skills in exciting new house and Dutch newcomer Juyen Sebulba complete the deluxe remix package; the latter's refreshing take on old-school hard style electronica, a unique recipe for modern age house.

One NYC's brightest drops a beauty of a double LP on Dekmantel. Awesomely dope! TIP!
Spring 2014 will see Dutch label Dekmantel release the debut full-length album from New Jersey producer, DJ and Inimeg Records boss Joey Anderson. Entitled After Forever, the album is the natural next step for a producer who has turned out plenty of deep and intriguing techno EPs for labels like Latency, Deconstruct Music and Syncrophone over the last couple of years.

Having been championed by the connoisseur likes of Levon Vincent and DJ Qu before the rest of the world cottoned on, Anderson's style has proved to be truly idiosyncratic, where near bottomless techno grooves get run through with haunted piano lines, shadowy synth work or elegant drones. There are barely ever any claps or snares, instead just plenty of deeply hypnotic kicks and plenty of noir tension.

'Every track on the album has its own take on my personality, my mentality musically and my vision of off-dancefloor music,' says Joey. 'I find it very difficult to create something for people just to like. I'd rather pay attention to making them get close to the album and uncover the ideas within it. Being my first LP, it's dedicated to my two daughters, Akatriel and Auset.'

As well as two tracks that were released on Anderson's previous Dekmantel EP, the album offers nine new cuts and kicks off with 'Space Between Curtains'. Haunting, saddened piano keys linger in the air above metallic synth sounds for the emotive duration of the track. Then there's the teary eyed, end-of-the-world yet optimistic vibe of 'Space Colors Ideas'. After that various intimate moods are explored, from heavy and ominous on 'Maidens Response' to celestial and cautiously uplifting on 'Archer's Ceremony' via 'Amp Me Up', which sees Anderson's spacious and atmospheric style suck you in with its weird, gurgling machine noises unravelling above an unchanging drum track.

It's an album that demands and indeed warrants close inspection, and is the sort of work that really transports you deep into another world far away from here. With After Forever, then, Joey Anderson confirms he crafts moody and atmospheric techno like few others.

An-i is the latest musical moniker for Berlin based former New Yorker Doug Lee. Doug has been DJing and producing records for the last decade under various aliases and collaborations. The Cititrax EP Kino-i will be the debut release and home for An-i, a showcase of his love affair with machines. It fronts a hard hitting sound beyond category, moving from techno to jack to punk and to noise. It suggests an anything goes attitude perhaps dictated more by the will of machines themselves then any author.

Nic and Eliza Coolidge are KNOX, a brother-sister duo residing in New York City, whose sonic experiments land them somewhere between the taut, emotive beat-work of James Blake and the acoustically-powered atmosphere of Bon Iver. KNOX's tracks are shifting sonic playgrounds with seething, surging production, plaintive guitar lines and ethereal harmonies weaving throughout.

Formed in March 2011, KNOX finds themselves working with the likes of John Tejada, Throwing Snow, Paula Temple, Sasha, Maya Jane Coles, and Jori Hulkkonan, as well as being one of Red Bull Music Academy's 2013 participants. "We are inspired by so much," the band has said of their influences, "From the consequential sound events of walking down the street, to classical music, to industrial underground. We try to absorb as much as we can and emit what feels natural."

KNOX's forthcoming and third EP, Thieving of Well, is the unfurling locus of these instincts—winding together deep plunges of heavy bass, echoes of indeterminate sonic matter and swirling cathedrals of melody. Thieving of Well will be released on Boysnoize Records, with a remix from Throwing Snow.

The other single on the compilation is the 7" version of "C'est La Vie" which was released in 1987. Most of the LP is comprised of tracks recorded from 1982-1984 which have only been released on CD in 2003 on the "Rare Robotnicks" compilation (except one track from 2005's "Krypta 1982" and one other track culled from "Robotnick Archives"). The exclusive to vinyl tracks were hand-selected and display a diverse and ever-changing sound palette yet maintaining the unique and unmistakable Alexander Robotnick style which we have all loved through the years. Behavioral scientists discovered why watching a forest relaxes the mind while the sight of an urban jungle, no matter how intricate, stresses us out. A forest contains so many lines, triangles, etc that our mind immediately gives up on trying to see it all. This giving up is the relaxing effect.

In the city our eyes and mind keep on trying to see every line, square, rectangle, etc. Impossible of course, and thus: stressing. The same goes for Hiele's music which is a true aural forest of all music electronic. There's simply too much to hear: ambient, 808 jack, nineties IDM, Chicago footstep, glitchy bits,...

So, only two cerebral reactions possible. First, if not accustomed with electronic music, is to put the needle off the record after a few seconds into the first track, and to never give it a second try. Secondly, to sit back and let the ingenious compositions wash over you.

By the time you've been able to pinpoint a certain recognizable sound, Essential Oils, even more so than it's predecessor, has already moved on so much that it leaves you wondering if a new track has already begun or not. (This wondering, again, makes you lose the pace.) Most electronic artists would be able to make a full-length album with the material that Hiele uses in only one track. Yet, amidst all his frantic compositions, Hiele never loses his keen sense for sweet melodies and, yes, even danceable beats.

The album comes in a full color printed sleeve, with cover photo by Hildegard Hanssen and graphic work by Victor robyn. All tracks produced and mixed by Roman Hiele. Mastered at Dubplates & Mastering Berlin.

New album by the irrepressible Dutchman... The '2080' part of the album title is taken from the Roland JV2080, a legendary digital synthesizer from the nineties that was used a lot in the making of the album. Bought second-hand in Tokyo for a couple of hundred dollars, it lends the record a very dewy eyed soul, whilst the 'Crystal' part of the title stands for the self-made 'DIY germanium crystal compressor' Legowelt used throughout the writing process. The album itself features ten new tracks of pure Legowelt music mainly recorded in De Hague in the past year, but also on the road during tours of LA, the Californian desert, Tokyo (which spawned 'Crystal Cult 2080') and Tejada Gran Canaria (where 'The Future of Myself' was written.) Where his last album The Paranormal Soul was an organic trip into misty forests, this one seems more concerned with medieval spirits; it's deeper, darker and the whole thing is tied together by a more coherent sense of ancient alchemy. Given the use of a DIY germanium crystal compressor during production, it's no wonder everything feels warm, fuzzy and mystic in a way that draws your attention in like that fabled philosopher's stone... glare too long and you might just turn to stone. Right from the opening track the mood is so encapsulating you are drawn right into Danny Wolfers' mysterious electronic world. From there various different tempos are explored and plenty of famed synthesiser work comes to the fore, wrapping grooves in trippy themes, impish spirits and plenty of organic lushness.

Medical Records presents two exclusive releases. Compilation of very rare and sought after A + B sides (plus 2 more hand-selected tracks) of 3 Italo Disco iconic 12" singles that were originally released on the legendary Fuzz Dance label (a sublabel of Materiali Sonori). The first single needs no introduction to lovers of disco. Trophy "Slow Flight" (vocal + instrumental versions) was released in 1982. A very hard-hitting percussive track with very interesting production that is quite gritty yet smooth with it's vocoded vocals and synth melodies. Bavaria is John Tejada and Kimi Recor. While We'll Take a Dive is the first for the duo's newly cemented partnership they have appeared as guests on each other's releases for nearly a decade. The duo decided to exclude any extraneous instrumentation so that Tejada could focus solely on his modular synth programming while Recor took on the role to provide that all-too-vital human element by way of her silky vocal delivery. In theory We'll Take a Dive might sound like an exercise in minimalism, which couldn't be further from the truth. The album highlights the duo's deftness in getting maximal use from their instruments of choice while creating a superb darkly-hued electronic pop album that showcases its own unique strain of affecting tension and restraint.

Cloudface follows up his debut release for Mood Hut with a sublime EP of lush electro and quirky house and techno for Going Good. Peppered with synth-smattered instrumentals, this epic 8-tracker takes us into the depths of Cloudface's spiritual nebula and dissolves us into the fabric of space-time!

In Paradisum's 11th offering comes from Low Jack, who returns to the label after his collaboration with Qoso. It's a heavy EP of dense, apocalyptic sounds from the fast rising French DJ and producer that often churns along at a very predatory sub-100bpm.



Grainy, dusty, dirty and psychedelic, title track 'Flashes' is a prickly concoction for sure. The kicks drag below, white noise patterns emerge above and way off in the distance massive industrial machines seem to be working in a heavy storm. 'Your Soul' has more light in it thanks to the mellow melodies, but stormy winds still percolate in the background and the spread-apart kicks still trudge with a dark and heavy heart.



'Don't U Know' is another monster full of coarse analogue sounds, whirring and broken machines and stomping kicks. It's terrifyingly industrial stuff that will blow your mind ion the right darkened dancefloor. 'Sweet Cheater' sounds like a fruit machine gone bad, with layers of grim and dirt and cowbells and kicks all piled on top of each other into a patchwork of sound so tightly packed its impossible to ignore. Frankly, nasty noise never sounded so good!

This Society turns out to be a massive floor board ripping cut in a similar to old Acid Planet or Bunker tracks, no bells and whistles just bare bones warehouse mayhem. Resistors teases in start/stop fashion throughout pushing to the point of no return and never getting there leaving the listener in limbo. Finally, taking up the entire b-side, Reach Another System is an autistic 909 driven piano track in the most unconventional sense which implodes upon contact. Strictly for the freaks, as they say.

The VIP series on Butterz is all about the artist taking two of their popular tracks and exploring the ideas further than the original versions. On the first edition Swindle took 'Mood Swings' and turned it into a 9 min epic, which was only available in a small run of 200 copies, likewise with Terror Danjah's edition, he revisited 'Morph' and combined it with P Jam's classic 'Anger Management'. For Flava D's edition she reworked Home and Hold On from her first outing earlier this year on Butterz (BR012) at the Red Bull Studios in London alongside the Butterz crew this summer. 'Hold On' takes an aggressive turn with P Jam throwing down the breaks, and Royal-T joining in lending a hand with the bass in his first appearance on the label in over two years. Flava's new take on 'Home' which was originally written in 2011 showcases how much she has developed since joining the Butterz stable late last year. Made with the whole crew in the room you can get a sense of a willingness to wow the room, especially in the second half, where it takes a darker turn. This marks the start of a slew of releases from Flava D and the rest of the Buttterz camp to close 2013 following their announcement of their new residency at Fabric.

BAKK continues with the 12'' split EP's and will take you to a mysterious but lucid dance floor. The A side is a heavy hitter by Aurora Halal, musician, visual artist and organizer of the infamous Mutual Dreaming parties in New York which roofed artists from Traxx to Anthony 'Shake' Shakir. A frantic homage to Rod Lee's B-more club classic, Dance My Pain Away (Tribute) covers the grey area between passing out and going all out. This one keeps you sharp with it's heavy kicks and snares that whirl like a helicopter. Speaking of tributes, the B-side is a serenade to Stephen King's ''The Langoliers'' by rising star Haron from Amsterdam - a stubborn electro track with stomping 808 kicks from start to finish. The claustrophobic synths fuse with a hypnotizing wobbling bass that wavers like turbulence and drives you towards giving everything you got. Let ''The Langolier Hustle'' be your pilot to a new adventure for all the dance floor deviants out there. Comes with Screen printed fluor colour label and stickers.

Geschichte schrieb DAF, die sich 1978 in Düsseldorf gründeten, mit Hits wie - Der Moussolini' oder - Der Räuber und der Prinz'.

Das mit 18 Titeln bestückte Album wird alle DAF Fans, aber auch und vor allem die Freunde moderner elektronischer Clubmusic begeistern. DAF-artige Sequenzen, modernste House- und Electro-Beats, dazu die für Gabi Delgado typischen deutschen Texte bilden ein einzigartiges Gesamtbild, das sicher für Furore sorgen wird.

Gabi DelGado ist als einer der Pioniere deutscher Techno- und Electromusik anzusehen und sorgte zusammen mit Robert Görl in der 1978 gegründeten Formation DAF (Deutsch amerikanische Freundschaft) für nationales und internationales Aufsehen.
1995 gründete er zusammen mit dem Schauspieler und Musiker Wotan Wilke-Möhring das Projekt DAF/DOS.

Music from the documentary "I Dream Of Wires" f/several large-format modulars as well as his own Eurorack system. It doesn't revel in classicist synthpop motifs or vocoder-pop of recent years but focusses on making strange sounds sing.

With the presentation of his second full length album, 2014 is off to a great start for Radial a.k.a. Jeroen Liebregts from The Netherlands.
