NX1 are Samot and Surit, childhood friends and long-time production partners. Hailing from the same town in Majorca the pair have spent the last ten years developing a mutual passion and utopic vision for contemporary techno as individual artists, a collaboration now formally coming to fruition as Nexe Records.

The project launched discreetly enough last year with the NX1 series. No track titles--only numbers, self-released and limited to just 200 pressings, the catalogue (totalling three EPs, with a fourth on the way) wears the 'no-nonsense' insignia boldly pinned to its lapels, collectively posing as a commanding and stripped back showcase of music very literally speaking for itself. Indeed it is a concept that repeats throughout the remainder of the NX1 discography, and features once again here: the duo's first four track EP, and debut release for M_Rec Ltd.

Seasoned NX1 followers will find the duo packing even more of a punch this time as the pair push proven scopey soundscapes and thundering basslines into deeper, darker extremities. If the latest NX1 self-releases have adopted more dub-techno tones, then 'MR' returns to earlier blueprints culminating in four moreish variants of sleek and driving techno. From the groovy hypnotism of 'MR1' and 'MR3' to the swirling strung-out highs of 'MR2', down to the sludgy depths of closer 'MR4', the NX1 message resonates loud and clear: Music is nexus. Plug into the system.

DESCRIPTION
We last heard from UK outfit Vondelpark in 2011, when they released the nyc stuff and nyc bags EP, their second release for R&S. The EP boasted a transportive quality, with gritty, homespun recordings that allowed just enough natural light in to let you feel like you were in the room with them. "Dracula", is the first track released from the recording sessions from their forthcoming debut LP, Seabed, out in the spring of 2013. That rough bedroom sound is replaced with something much more luxurious, with a backdrop that feels weightless as crystalline synths rub against languid guitar.
The production is stuffed with detail, and Lewis Rainsbury's vocals are upfront and much clearer than in previous recordings, his thick baritone serving as an anchor for the surrounding haze. "Dracula" is darkly romantic and almost decadent in such sensual surroundings, proving that they haven't lost the ability to airlift you into a scene you want to be part of.
On the flip 15 year old sensation Happa delivers a superb warped techno remix. With a Four Tet remix and DJ session for Mary Anne Hobbs already under his belt, the future looks bright for Happa.

This single sided vinyl record is very special. Instead of producing
standard tracks for an E.P. the techno-live-duo "synthetic lab" (pro.ton
and steffen marx) performed a 19 minutes live act of not only heavy
banging detroidish techno - some parts are deep and melodic. This very
long track is changing the mood and draw bows from one part to another -
like a mix - use it how you need it!

'DX Love (Kris Wadsworth's Zombie Surfer Remix)' opens the EP here and in true Wadsworth fashion embraces a raw, dubbed out Detroit vibe. Punchy drilling beats and underlying twisted melodies drive the track alongside a penetrating arpeggiated bass-line; the result is a moody, peak-time slow bloomer with a touch of class as expected from the Detroit master.
Underbelly Records return this January with a three track EP from Dutch producer Wouter De Moor, entitled 'DX Love' and backed with a remix from Kris Wadsworth.
Wouter De Moor's career has been steadily evolving since 2009 with releases on Bla Bla, Remote Area, Trapez and Paco Osuna's Mindshake. De Moor's association with these labels has led to a busy touring schedule, taking him across the globe to South Korea, China, Spain, London and the infamous Cocoon Club in Frankfurt. Underbelly Records launched in 2011 and the label has already released cuts from the likes of Maya Jane Coles, Alex Arnout, Klartraum, and Matt Tolfrey & Sam Russo.

Just as we would have expected it from a restless sound scientist like Monoloc, the first single announcing his upcoming debut album on CLR is another proof of his constant evolution. Since the release of his first record in 2001, this versatile and inspiring electronic musician has been honing his production skills and has released music on numerous renowned labels. CLR061 and the upcoming album are results and vivid expressions of his remarkable development as a producer. None other than Chris Liebing assisted during the mix-down of the new tracks and studio neighbor Brian Sanhaji took good care of the mastering. The outcome is an in-house CLR production that will surely satisfy even the most exigent listeners. Both tracks on CLR061 are good examples of one of Monoloc´strongest gifts, which is the ability to freely use elements from all kinds of musical styles and incorporate them artistically into his own compositions. 'Shame' is a groovy, atmospherically rich piece of music, which includes several of the artist´s musical influences, always staying true to his popular minimalistic Techno roots. Darek Recordings presents this various artist release, divided in two colored vinyl editions, including productions of well-known artists who love and support Secret Island Nation, such as: Ian Pooley, Samuel L Session, Franco Bianco, Yapacc, David Keno and many others. Secret Island Nation is a 4-day festival on an extremely beautiful, lonely island in the west-Swedish archipelago. Depending on the year, during the last week of July or the first week of August, the utopian nation Sweutschland will be founded, where its "citizens" define and live according their own rules. Everything is built from scratch in a joint effort and the program is accompanied by finest, mostly electronic music on two floors by more than 30 very international artists. But bear in mind, this is the roughest part of the Swedish west coast, weather and thus our plans will change or go wrong, expect the unexpected is part of the concept!

Turbo Recordings takes new-school electro to grad school with the latest release from Finnish duo Renaissance Man.

Finland's Renaissance Man have earned a reputation as some of the smartest minds in dance music, and by extension, the world. Following their brilliant 2011Turbo debut LP, the actual architects continue to bring high-minded concepts to low-ended club tracks with their latest release, "Call2Call."

The six tracks on this EP take the DNA of classic electro and splice it with techno's focus on structure and the duo's trademark "Critical House" conceptual ingenuity. The use of landline phone samples over dirty 808 beats evokes something both timeless and incredibly time-specific, like a primitive ape-man (or woman) being handed the first-ever cordless phone and hearing his first dial tone as the equivalent of being left to die in space. The result is something familiar yet new, much like the second time you ever read the phrase "familiar yet new."

None of which is to say that this music doesn't have balls. Because it does. Brainy, well-considered balls. Accept them as our gift to you.

The Japanese lord of darkness comes back home with this brand new release. Go Hiyama has more than 30 releases to his name, with labels such as Perc Trax, Token, Coda, Audio Assault and our very own Warm up.

This time he delivers three original tracks, plus two Oscar Mulero remixes; five tracks of the purest techno around: incisive, cyclical and futuristic.

On the A side, "Dull acuity" is a power-fuelled track with repetitive synth sequences, massive kick drums and shuffled 909 hi hats. Subtle micro drones fly over the beat, constantly evolving and changing.

"Common Blank" starts with broken rhythms till the metallic percussions come in. A high-pitched pad sound adds tension to the arrangement, as do various digital noises.

On the B side, OM reworks "Common Blank". He uses fatter kicks, but preserves the broken rhythms, and the same opaque and grey sounds you can hear on his latest album, Black Propaganda.

"First refusal" slows down the speed a lot, introducing organic Koto sounds, and guitar-like sequences. Dreamy atmospheres add melancholy to the overall feeling, creating a great intelligent techno track with an industrial gothic flavour.

A varied and complex EP that brings our label back to action with this veteran producer from Japan.

Returning to Plus 8 for the third time, Julian Jeweil's profile as a contemporary techno titan has continued to grow. The Frenchman is now a firm part of the family and, when not in the studio, can be found owning dancefloors across Europe and beyond, putting to good use the experience he has built up over the last ten years since first emerging. The EP opens with the titular track, 'Bastard' - a rolling, cyclical techno groove with slapping drums and dark, heavily filtered vocal loop. Tension comes from layered, skewed synths that grow louder and louder till breaking down into white noise waves that flood the rest of the mix. 'Hey You' has just as firm and rubbery a bottom end, but here the iron-like synths bring a little funk as tiny FX percolate right at the heart of the track. Wholly abstract as ever, all sorts of other aqueous sounds drip in and out, conjuring thoughts of long dark tunnels disappearing deep underground. On 'The Gang' Jeweil lays down a restless, paranoid arrangement that sounds infected by alien space ships as an ominous vocal beams down from above. One synth here triggers another one there, making sure the whole thing is dynamic and filmic in its make-up. Closing out the EP is 'Zoulou', another steely techno stomper over run by alien sounds and non-human noises. Though his techno surely makes you dance, Julian Jeweil also knows how to get the most of his studio equipment and colours his tracks with more than enough detail to keep your mind as active as your feet.

Re:Vision series restarts with Steve Poindexter's timeless classic 'Computer Madness'. We are very honored and excited to be able to re-release this beast of a track! It's hard to imagine that this was really created over 2 decades ago. So the task at hand was to find the right contemporaries to revise this masterpiece, we didn't have to look far to find the man for the job: Function is an old friend here at THEMA, and things got even better when he brought in Jerome Sydenham to co-produce the second treatment. It's thus with great pride we announce our Re:Vision of Computer Madness, featuring two resolutely modern reinterpretations of Poindexter's classic.
The original by Poindexter dates all the way from 1989 and is a brief, headlong rush into drum machine-fueled raw acid and has long been a staple of the genre for many as well as the first release on the seminal Musique Records. We wanted to start off with a stomper, so for the whole A side, we have Function with occasional co-conspirator Sydenham with an unstoppable driving interpretation that straightens the busy drums of the original into a pounding techno pulse and takes repeated, changing portions of the original acid line as its central riff. Much of the action here occurs in the dirty, growling bass the pair add to the lower register; this is peak time damage for the most unrelenting floors. On the flip side we start off with Function's deep, dubbed out reinterpretation, but it soon strides forward into the style of psychedelic but jacking techno familiar from his recent, more extroverted output. Even at almost double the length of the original, there's still a palpable aura of reverence to the way he approaches the track; it should come as no surprise that he ranks it highly in his favorites list. Then of course we finish off with Poindexter's original 1989 version, with all its original bang and glory. Still sounds fresh and as inspiring as it did the first time we heard this way back when...

It's been awhile since we at THEMA visited our Re:Vision series, where we pay homage to those that have influenced us and bring historical accomplishments into contemporary focus. It started with DJ Slip's classic 'Available Light' (THEMA017) featuring two incredibly well sought after remixes of the celebrated original by Franco Cinelli and Mikael Stavöstrand. Now revisiting the series
with renewed dedication, we've carefully selected three classic underground tracks that reverberate in past and present for re-evaluation by a cadre of contemporary techno's finest talent.

Culprit's last release of 2012 represents an emphatic statement of creative intent from another young production team whose star is in the rapid ascendancy. Swiss duo Adriatique's Culprit debut, 'Face to Face' EP feels like a first confident step toward what may become one of the label's defining artistic relationships in the new year.
The four track EP meets the Culprit grade with style: brimming with fine musical ideas, genuinely conceived and precisely executed modern electronic house, perfectly in tune with the times yet projecting an individual and coherent style. Dance floor - ready stuff with depth and verve, it's the sound of two fine young talents finding a Culprit home.
Faithful to Culprit's credo of focusing the spotlight on artists on the verge of greatness, Adriatique are a duo making a quick and decisive impact on the genre. Their solo and collaborative (with Thyladomid) work has made the boys a legion of fans over the past 2 years. Having been groomed from within the un-stoppable Diynamic family, Adriatique have spread their wings with outstanding work for labels like City Fox and now, Culprit. Quick on the heels of their 'Trigger Dance' track (with Thyladomid) - that was part of the 'Above the City 2' compilation - comes 'Face to Face,' an exciting EP that Adriatique's now patented electronic bassline-driven groove with the Culprit's inclination toward warm musicality.The title track is a finely balanced work, irresistibly combining deep chords with the dance-floor destroying bassline and an infectious vocal hook. It's already a firm favourite with the Culprit and Diynamic DJ camps. 'Blackbox' is an on-point example of what makes the EP such a great fit for the LA-based label's oeuvre, it's guitar driven bit of psychedelia a counterpoint to jozif's Culprit work, its electronic plaintiveness in line with M A N I K's recent EP.
'Circle of Love' marries a soulful vocal with one of the best set of deep bassline melodies ever released on Culprit, perfect for the early morning hours. 'Need it Now' is the early evening counterpart, with another killer bassline and just enough propulsion to get any discerning party started.

The long awaited follow-up to Frits Wentinks' much hailed debut EP 'Barry Tone' on the Triphouse Rotterdam label has finally arrived. After the passing of a busy year, the young prodigy from Utrecht found time to create this treat that will appeal to music lovers not afraid to take it off the paved roads. Like it's precursor, this brand new four tracker draws inspiration from a large palette of styles in modern dance music and merges them into songs that are forward thinking and at the same time demonstrate a classic take on the arrangement. Marygohorse One slaps you directly in the face with it's funky wobble bass, broken beat and it's spacy chords. Marygohorse Two steps up the tempo with high energy dancefloor vibes, still clearly oozing with Frits' signature blend of funk and freakiness. Pony Time One brings a bass heavy four to the floor groover with haunting siren-like strings that cut through butter like a warm knife. Pony Time Two displays his melancholic side with slow organs, laid back bass and playful keys. All and all this EP will make you lose your mind on the dance floor while staying catchy enough to whistle along to it while hitting the shower. This time Plus 8 turn to Spanish talent Alberto Pascual for their next four track outing. Heís a busy man with over thirty releases to his name already (on Plus 8 as well as labels like Drumcode) and a unique techno style all his own.

For our first release in 2013, we welcome our first Italian artist on Correspondant: Crono. 'Palazzo D'Inverno' takes reference to the official residence of the Tzar, that was built by the Italian architect Francesco Bartolomeo Rastrelli. It is an
enigmatic arpeggiated trip that carries us into the utopian landscapes of long-forgotten sounds and imageries. It is an epic track of nostalgique elegance. Its elevating sounds and melodic composition make it the perfect soundtrack for a Fantastic movie scene. Fairmont, long time friend and one of our favorite producers (who also just released his highly praised
album "Automaton" on the canadian imprint My Favorite Robot), twists the original track into a futuristic and psychedelic journey by adding spacey keyboards and an obsessive bassline.
Crono's second track on the EP, 'Doppio Sogno', is a pure bass driven track that portraits the literary subject of Arthur Schnitzle's Traumnovelle. It takes us into the deepness and the mysterious wideness of the unconsciousness. Providing space of mind it keeps up a keen melodic structure. In his version of the track, parisian 'Get The Curse' star Clement Meyer, strips it down: slow. dirty, vicious are the new dancefloor rules! And it works!

It happened in october 2004, Michael Kruck became First Called Resident DJ at the legendary
Fusion Club in Muenster. From now he builds up the big support in the Fusion mainfloor
and plays beside many famous acts like Chris Liebing, Marco Bailey, DJ Rush, Umek, Westbam,
Takkyu Ishino, Ben Sims and many others.
Of course with his pushing and grooving sound he reached a nationwide popularity, so that he
regularly plays in other very big locations of his country like the Butan Club in Wuppertal, the Tor 3
in Duesseldorf and many more. Furthermore his definition of techno is now entering Austria, in the
famous Dom im Berg in Graz or the Big Sunflower Festival in the Fly Areal Prambachkirchen.
Since July 2006, in the Fusion Club he hosts his own event series called Techno Division. In a 2
monthly period you can listen to many international top acts supported by Michael Kruck. Afterwards
he founded his DJ Booking & Artistmanagement agency named M2M Booking.
With his first release named Wobble EP which will be available in records stores in may 2011 on zero
point five records containing big remixes, the first step for further successful productions is made.

Italian-born Luigi Madonna made his name in his home town of Naples with early EPs released by Loose Records and Analytic Trail, catching the ear of many established techno stars before his original productions and remixes for the likes of Material and Drumcode began punctuating a succession of Plus 8 / Minus boss Richie Hawtin's DJ sets in recent months. And so Hawtin has now called upon the producer to step up for his debut EP on the Plus 8 imprint, throughout which Madonna explores streamlined and stripped back grooves of the sort perfectly befitting the outlook of the label.

There are several ways to try to sum up the history of MOTOR. Chronologically listing all of the releases, significant events, enthusiastic critics and superlative comments, awards won and goals achieved in a comparatively short period of time would be one of them.

Bas Mooy, fresh off his releases on Mote Evolver and Perc Trax, shows his quality once more, this time with his new vinyl release on Gynoid Audio - 'Alphabet of the Fifth Hour' EP. This 4-tracker is kicked off by the artists original production 'Desolaat', a track rich with tension and depth, think big big rooms and sweaty warehouses, destined for the likes of Liebing et al. On 'Desolaat' remix duties is none other than Xhin, known for his recent releases on Token, CLR and Stroboscopic Artefacts. Xhin brings a more up front mix and quasi broken kick pattern lending its rhythm to the comings and goings of atmospheric stabs and dirty synths.

The flip side delivers us the original version of 'Recoil', again displaying Mooy's ability to blend atmosphere and IDM ideals with an innate sense of dance floor ethics. Rounding out the release is Radial's remix of 'Recoil'. Radial takes it to a funkier place through rolling bass lines and well placed hypnotic stabs but keeps it akin to the original through that ever present atmosphere.

Helge Tømmervåg aka Mind over MIDI blesses diametric. with his new album monolog. After the success of his first album components for diametric. in 2011 he is taking us on another journey through his universe of deep meditative soundscapes. monolog is a much darker affair, taking us out of his melodic realm that was components into a much more minimal ambient world full of noises, echoes, reverbs, warmth and droning beauty. The album presents mind over MIDI in a different light and it is the perfect soundtrack for the long dark and cold evenings of autumn ahead of us.

Often overlooked in American techno history are the weird and wonderful flavours to have emanated from the mid-west over the years. No two finer exponents have there been than Minnesota's Paul Birken and Freddy Fresh. Their contributions date back to the early nineties when Freddy was exploring the possibilities of extreme techno (via labels like Labworks, EXperimental and his own Analog) - an activity that Paul took up a while later after debuting on Woody McBride's renegade Communique label in 1996.

Teaming up for the first of two collaborations on this 12", Paul and Freddy open with 'The Fate of Thirty Eight' - a belting slab of analogue techno, where machines shriek and squawk like possessed animals on the loose. 'Acid Sound of Malibu' sees Paul flying solo, laying down a teasing reverb-soaked warehouse cut where suggestive 303 frequency shifts jostle for centre stage, around a series of both bellowing and piercing sound fx.

On the b-side the pair team up again on 'Fifty Is Shifty': a distorted and demented electro workout if ever there was one. Think of Ed DMX + AFX, competing in a duel for the earth's last 808, and you're somewhere close. Closing the ep is Freddy's 'Year Back'. Originally released in 1998, it was squashed onto one side (with 5 other tracks) of his 'Last True Family Man' album on Eye Q. A hidden gem of that LP, it's an epic, spaced-out trip of pulsing electro that now gets the vinyl space it needs, as well as a beefy remastering.

After putting on parties in London for many years, the Techno Sessions crew finally release their own music on their label of the same name. The debut EP features veteran producers Seb Marx and Maxx plus emerging stars Ludgero Costa and Krisbait. All of them have already released on many international labels including Polymeric, Carbon Audio, Cluster , More Punk Than Funk, Open Source to name a few. The consistency is apparent in this brilliant debut EP. Something for everyone here, from Ludgero Costa relentless 'Evolution', to the amazing Seb Marx 'Drenched', passing from the uplifting 'The Shield' of Maxx, and finishing with the rather dark 'Pump Keen' from the already tested duo Maxx & Krisbait. For sure a label to watch for the future!

Love and Death is the debut vinyl format of Helena Gallardo, acclaimed artist from Madrid.

After years of experience in music production, a song-written in memory of his father, "Love and Death", is leading the push to Helena Gallardo to venture to launch his own label.
Two more tracks close the circle: "Matter" reality that things are made by particles apreciales senses, and first issue of the series "Obsessions". And "The Shining", inspired by Stanley Kubrick's film, full of disturbing audios that sharpen the sense of claustrophobia.

Helena is one of the best female Spanish artist, she is working in new artistic expression ways to create a new world of ideas.

Frankfurt based DJ & producer Oliver Lieb made it into the
premier league of international Producers back in the late 90's.
He always keeps surprising and amazing people with his
extraordinary sounds and diversity. More than two decades to
follow Oliver released everything in the electronic genres from
downtempo and chillout to hard experimental techno and trance.
His project Spicelab on Sven Väth's legendary Harthouse label
established a platform for his highly appreciated sounds, which
developed into one of the most important projects of the label
including the release of three full length album releases. Beside
his LSG and Paragliders releases on Superstition Rec. are still
considered as one of the most influencing and timeless trance
projects and were developed for more than 10 years and 5
Albums.

In fact we are very proud to present you Oliver with a great new
release on Diametral starting with "Collider" a great driving
techno track combing the good old sounds with the state of art
in producing by diving into a massive break of time and space
hypnotizing all listeners around. Along the original well known
Solee is hooking up the dancefloor with his special sounds
focusing on energetic basslines and epic synths. Matthias
Springer instead turns it into his unique dubby techhouse style
generating a discreet assmover. Closing the release with a great
afterhour-hymn called "Cluster" that takes the listener into
some new dimensions in modern electronic music.

Berlin techno wizard Harry Axt pays hommage to the techno legends of the early 1990's Yves de Ruyter and Cherry Moon with his latest release on Kiddaz. Calling Earth (1994) and The House of House (1994) are bonafide techno classics which Harry Axt has re-imagined for the dance floors of today. A release not to be missed, this is next-level primetime banging techno at it's finest. Support by: DJ Emerson, Rene Bourgeois, Spartaque, Pierre Deutschmann and many more

Sawlin's debut EP on Delsin off shoot Ann Aimee went down so well it only made sense to have him craft another. 'Eviment' is that EP, made up of three more deep and subterranean techno cuts that play with plenty of textures.Title track 'Eviment' is a tortured and paranoid offering that has a nagging vocal stretched out over splashy claps and a foreboding bottom end thud. It's vast and dark, spare and haunting where 'Kretze' is a bigger and bolder track. The analogue percussion and serrated lines all sound old and aged as they mark out a scraping, dystopian vision of a world well away from here.
'Sour Tear' has a more syncopated, techno-funk groove but is still padded out with plenty of dubby undercurrents. Sawlin's percussion sounds are wholly non standard, from clanking metal to twanging strings, everything sounds like a real world sound, which makes his music as arresting as anyone's, despite being made firmly for the techno back room.

London label, Save You Records celebrate their twentieth release with a superb four track EP featuring music from Ste Roberts, Youandewan, MarcAshken, Kris Wadsworth and Jay Tripwire..
Save You Records launched back in the summer of 2010 with a remit to release fresh and exciting house and techno from upcoming artists and established names. In the intervening two years they have become one of the most interesting labels around, shunning the notion of sticking to one genres and releasing a string of outstanding singles that have really grabbed the imagination of music lovers, DJs and press alike.

Now to celebrate their twentieth release the Save You team has put together a pretty special EP featuring some of the hottest producers around. The 'Rapscallion EP' kicks off with Hypercolour and Initials co-owner Ste Roberts who drops the wonderful 'Tram & Pier', a tough slice of rolling techno that marries Detroit influences with tight drum programming to create a deep, hypnotic winner. The second A side cut sees Roberts in play again as his 'Week 8' is reworked by the ever-excellent Youandewan, who delivers a stunning and emotive slice of spacious dub techno.

On the flip things get going with the inspired pairing of MarcAshken & Kris Wadsworth, the latter remixing Ashken's 'Feeders' into a twisted and off kilter affair. Haunting melodic riffs, distorted pitch shifted vocals and beautifully layered percussion all come together to make a record that is dark and edgy yet a guaranteed floorfiller, sublime stuff! Finally Jay Tripwire steps forward with a new edit of his track 'Sad & Beautiful World' a sumptuous dub techno affair that rightfully sees its way to vinyl here.

Save You Records have compiled a package here that cannot fail, featuring five standout producers and four sterling pieces of modern techno, enjoy.
