Releasing as a vinyl 45, Bad Night is the lead offering from The Cromagnon Band's new album Mode. This is the band's second LP and the first of theirs to be released on BBE Music. Mode itself is an album of cinematic and psychedelic dark Funk tinged and tinted with Nordic psych/jazz, classical, boom-bap Hip-Hop breaks and riff heavy rock. Bad Night is backed with Quadrant, a stand alone track that won't be on the album, thus making the vinyl single release a unique addition to the music lover's record collection. That said, these are are two tracks which give both a genuine flavour of the forthcoming album as well as the band's own musical influences and heritage as instrumentalists and producers. The Cromagnon Band's recording technique of taking breaks, riffs and melodies from favourite tracks and then improvising from there with completely live jam sessions in the studio allows them to record in their distinct and trademark 'reverse engineering' style. The trio of Drummer Tom Watt, Bassist Lenny Walker and multi-instrumentalist Bert Page work by making music as a team, playing for hours and united by a love of Hip-Hop breaks and psychedelic Jazz/Rock/Funk and classical music. They choose to record only instrumentals which allows space for Bert to weave intricate soundscape with Fender Rhodes, Moog, Sax and Clarinet over the beats and breaks they have written from their improvised jams. Bad Night b/w Quadrant are the lead releases from The Cromagnon Band's new album Mode. They will be released as a 7" vinyl and digitally.

Diego Ruiz, aka DFRA, is an Argentine music producer very active in the last five years with several productions in the underground deep house scene. Now he's definitely setting the bar at the highest level with this project. He's introducing a full band of musicians with jazzy roots, and the result is a four-track EP that's a clear fusion of how jazz and electronic music merge in a unique way. It incorporates classic Deep House and House sounds plus the fusion of Modal Jazz, Bebop, and Hard Bop style melodies.

Buddy Rich (1917 - 1987) was described and announced around the world as 'The World's Greatest Drummer.' Rich is still considered one of the most legendary drummers of all time. A master of his instrument, his technique, energy, and speed were praised globally. The jazz drummer and bandleader began his drumming career as a child. When Rich was 18 months old, he started playing the instrument and later performed as a child, becoming known as 'Traps the Drum Wonder.'

Buddy Rich always sought to surpass himself; the next show was always better than the previous one. Nothing could hinder this goal—not even a broken arm or a heart attack could stop Rich from giving a better performance than the last.

Buddy Rich is one of the LPs that is part of the North Sea Jazz Concert Series. Other concerts in this series feature artists like Dizzy Gillespie, Ray Charles, Dexter Gordon, and Jan Akkerman.

The North Sea Jazz Concert Series will include officially licensed releases that will be released as standard on 180-gram white vinyl in a sleeve of heavy paper and printed on reversed board. The records will be captured in mainly black-and-white artwork by Hans Pol in his signature style of the festival with inspiration from the covers of classic older jazz releases from the Blue Note label, for example. The liner notes are written by journalist and jazz expert Jeroen de Valk.

For The Elektric Band’s sophomore outing, Chick Corea - the venerated 27-time Grammy winner and National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Master - entered the studio with Dave Weckl on drums, John Patitucci on bass, and two new players who would solidify the band’s classic line up, guitarist Frank Gambale and saxophonist Eric Marienthal.

More heavily produced than its predecessor, Light Years contains several sequence-driven tracks, Corea’s attempt at reaching out to a wider audience with a brand of music that was tighter, funkier and eminently more communicative than he had recorded on 1986’s The Chick Corea Elektric Band.

The crisp, irrepressibly catchy title track is a prime example of Corea’s more commercial aspirations for the album, with Patitucci laying down a fat, funky groove with some hearty slap bass lines (a distinct flavor of the time), and Marienthal’s pungent alto sax strutting over the top. Not only did this groove-oriented track catch on with listeners, it also won a Grammy for Best R&B Instrumental Performance at the 31st Annual Grammy Awards.

Originally released on GRP Records in 1987, the album also contains the dreamy contemporary jazz offerings of “Second Sight” and “The Dragon,” the sequence-driven “Time Track”, “Flamingo,” featuring Carlos Rios on guitar and, the electrifying, techno tour de force, highly complex closer, “Kaleidoscope.

Michael Head has announced details of the release of his first album of new material in over 11 years.

Recorded under the name of Michael Head & The Red Elastic Band, 'Adiós Señor Pussycat' is released on Violette Records on Friday 20th October 2017.

Beautiful and evocative and recorded in his home-town of Liverpool between March 2016 and June 2017, the album is the culmination of four years of hard work. Equal to his finest moments, Adiós Señor Pussycat will undoubtedly only further cement his reputation as one of this generations greatest songwriters.

After briefly replacing Eric Clapton in John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers, guitarist/bassist Geoff Krivit formed Doctor K’s Blue Band with pianist Richard Kay and singer/harmonica player Mick Hasse, the lineup completed by bassist Harold Vickers, slide guitarist Roger Rolt and future Steve Hillage drummer Eric Peachey. Their self-titled debut had top-notch renditions of blues classics such as ‘I Can’t Lose,’ ‘Key To The Highway’ and ‘Pet Cream Man,’ as well as spirited originals such as ‘Strobe Lemming’s Lament’ and the piano stomp ‘Crippled Clarence,’ but the album failed to break through. In 1971, an undocumented seven-member Afro-American ensemble known as the Bobby Boyd Congress made a transformative journey from the United States to France. Bandleader Frank Abel recollects, "We sensed that the soul and funk market was saturated back home, and our original plan was a brief 6-month stint in Paris. Surprisingly, we ended up staying for a decade." Upon lead singer Bobby Boyd's return to the U.S., the group rebranded as Ice and crossed paths with independent producer Pierre Jaubert, a seasoned studio professional with credits on groundbreaking recordings alongside Charles Mingus, John Lee Hooker, and Archie Shepp, among others.

Drawing inspiration from Motown's work ethic, Jaubert initiated regular rehearsals with Ice. He recalled, "I didn't want to mimic Berry, but with seven talented musicians collaborating daily, something unique emerged." The band, residing in Paris and immersed in the African-dominated Barbesse district, began infusing African elements into their music frequently performing with Paris-dwelling Camaroonian and legendary composer Manu Dibango.

Under the new moniker Lafayette Afro Rock Band, the group's music transitioned to predominantly instrumental compositions, featuring a denser Afro-funk sound. Their inaugural recording with the new name, 'Soul Makossa,' included a compelling rendition of Dibango's classic and the impactful break in 'Hihache.' The subsequent release a year later, 'Malik,' refined their sound with the percussive Afro party jam 'Conga,' the atmospheric vocoder and piano-led piece 'Djungi,' and the robust funk of 'Darkest Light.' Despite a limited impact upon its initial release, 'Malik' found appreciation as hip-hop culture flourished in the '80s, establishing itself as a rich source of samples and riffs. 'Conga' was featured in the 'Ultimate Breaks And Beats' series, while the opening horn line from 'Darkest Light' became a pivotal hip-hop motif, employed by Jay-Z, Public Enemy, Wreckx 'N' Effect, and many others

Their debut recording under this new moniker, 'Soul Makossa,' made a powerful impact with a dynamic rendition of Dibango's classic, coupled with the intense break of 'Hihache' and the contagious 'Nicky.' Initially released by Musidisc in France and later in the U.S. via Editions Makossa, the album omitted the title track due to publishing clearance issues.

Despite modest sales upon its initial release, the album's enduring influence became evident as hip-hop culture surged in the '80s, establishing it as a primary source for samples and riffs. The iconic 'Hihache' break found fame in Biz Markie's 'Nobody Beats The Biz,' and tracks from the album were lifted by LL Cool J, The Beatnuts, Kruder & Dorfmeister, and numerous others.

Originally released in 1971, this album marked a significant milestone as the first Japanese artist's work intentionally tailored for international audiences. It made waves not only in Japan but also in the United States and Canada, where the single "SATORI PART 2" climbed to number 8 on the charts. The album's distinctiveness lies in its infusion of Eastern and Japanese musical elements, a reflection of the growing interest in Oriental philosophy across Europe and America during that time.

In the early '70s, Japan was transitioning from the pop-centric GS genre to a more folk-influenced sound, with rock still finding its niche. Despite this, FLOWER TRAVELLIN' BAND garnered support for their pioneering sound, both at home and abroad, maintaining their popularity over the years.

Formed by drummer Bill Curtis in 1970 the Fatback Band signed to Perception Records who issued this debut album in America in 1972.

Recorded at Blue Rock Studio in New York, “Let’s Do It Again” featuring the soon to be patented Fatback sound, the album included originals like ‘Street Dance’ – that became a Billboard R&B hit in 1973 – ‘Free Form’, ‘Take A Ride (On The Soul Train)’ , ‘Give Me One More Chance’, ‘Goin’ To See My Baby’ and the title track. There were also cover versions of Jimmy Webb’s ‘Wichita Lineman’, David Gates ‘Baby I’m A Want You’ and the evergreen ‘Green Green Grass Of Home’.

“Let’s Do It Again” has been out of print for many years and Ace are delighted to be reissuing it on vinyl – with the full cooperation of Fatback founder Bill Curtis.

With his new album, the wryly titled My Bad Side Wants a Good Time, Paul and company further expound upon the groove- laden approach that remains so essential to the Sooner State's revered traditions, some of the songs were recorded in the restored environs of Church Studio in Tulsa, the former home of Shelter Records once owned and operated by Leon Russell.

The recording efforts have clearly paid off, while also remaining true to the vision Paul had for the album early on. "I wanted make a record that encompassed the sounds coming out of that historic studio in it's glory days," he reflects. "Now, when I listen back, I find that it also echoes a vibe that was consistent with the diverse sounds once heard during the glory days of rock and roll radio. I can almost hear a deejay talking up each track while segueing between songs."

Originally released in 1987, Life Time is the full-length debut by Rollins Band. This reissue—released on ROLLINS’ 2.13.61 label—has been remastered for vinyl by TJ LIPPLE and includes updated artwork by JASON FARRELL. Henry Rollins on Life Time: “Life Time is the first studio record by the Rollins Band. We did our first practice on 04-07-87 and went out on a long tour of America and Europe. On the road we wrote songs and put them into the set. By late October we finished the shows in London, UK. We went up to Leeds where Chris had a place to live and booked studio time at the same place that he and I did the Hot Animal Machine recordings a year before. I had no producer for this record and feared that since everyone in the band had strong opinions on how it all should be done that if we tried to do it ourselves we would do more harm than good. I called Ian MacKaye and asked for help. He got on a plane and came right out. That's Ian. We got straight to work as we had little time or money. All twelve songs were cut and mixed in a few days. We would do a take and Ian would tell us that it was good and we were moving on. When someone would say that they wanted to do it over again, he listened patiently and then asked again which song we wanted to do next. We got it all done and dragged it back to America for about 3,200 dollars. My, how things have changed. The album cover was drawn on the back of a diner place mat by Stephen Myers as a gift for my then roommate, Laura. Only the offset reproduction of the piece remains as the original went with her when she gave up her room. She shot herself a few years ago. At the frayed bottom-edge of Indiana - just a moderate bike ride north of Louisville, Kentucky - multi-instrumentalist, artist and songwriter Ryan Davis' Americana-noir soundwaves have been emanating for years in a myriad of forms. As driving force for the lauded State Champion, long-running member of Tropical Trash, administrator of the esoteric and excellent Cropped Out festival, and lone proprietor of the Sophomore Lounge label, Davis lays down his first proper 'solo' release with Dancing On The Edge, a rich, 2LP tapestry of tunes that absolutely glows over seven expansive cuts. It's a pure collage of modernity and heritage. Recorded in early 2023 with help both in-studio and remotely from peers like Joan Shelley, Catherine Irwin (Freakwater), Will Lawrence (Felice Brothers, Gun Outfit, John Early), Jenny Rose (Giving Up), Christopher May (Mail the Horse), Elisabeth Fuchsia (Footings, Bonnie "Prince" Billy), and Aaron Rosenblum (Son of Earth, Sapat), the results herein are melancholic, gentle, minimal yet colorful in mood: a lilting highway accompaniment of crisp instrumentation and a relaxed, amiable approach to vocals with rhapsodic wordsmithery. THIRD EAR BAND stammen aus Canterbury und begannen als psychedelische Band namens THE GIANT SUN TROLLEY, die in Südlondoner Clubs lange und improvisierte Sets spielte. Nach einem Auftritt wurde der Band fast die gesamte Ausrüstung gestohlen. So wurden sie aus purem Zufall und offensichtlicher Notwendigkeit eine Akustikband und nahmen den Namen THIRD EAR BAND an. Von 1969 bis 1972 veröffentlichte die Band drei Alben auf dem progressivem Harvest-Label, "Music From Macbeth" (1972) war davon das bekannteste und kommerziell erfolgreichste. Am 24. April 1970 traten die Third Ear Band beim 2. Essener Pop & Blues Festival. Aus welchen Gründen auch immer tauchten sie aber weder auf dem offiziellen Plakat zur Veranstaltung noch in den Programmheften zum Festival auf. Das Billing des Tages war mit Acts wie The Flock, Ekseption, Rhinocerous, The Groundhogs, It"s A Beautiful Day und den noch unbekannten Black Sabbath, die gerade ihr erstes Album veröffentlicht hatten, prall gefüllt. Das Essener Konzert in der Quartettbesetzung mit Sweeney am Schlagzeug, Minns an der Oboe, Coff an der Violine und Smith am Cello fand nur wenige Wochen vor der Veröffentlichung des zweiten Albums statt, das die Fans als "Elements" kennen, obwohl es schlicht "Third Ear Band" heißt und im Juni 1970 erschien. Von den vier Elementen spielte die Band an dem Abend "Earth" und "Water", aber in einer kürzeren Fassung im Vergleich zu den Albumversionen. Erst vor kurzem sind die professionellen Tonaufnahmen vom Festivalauftritt der Third Ear Band wieder aufgetaucht und jetzt restauriert, klanglich aufgearbeitet und gemastert worden.

Three generations of female musicians from Japan come together, blending reggae drums, funky bass, and the smooth City Pop guitar, all magically dubbed-out live on stage. Tokyo Riddim Band is a culture clash phenomenon unlike anything else.

Championed by Gilles Peterson, and featured on NTS, Pitchfork and Bandcamp Daily, the group was born out of Time Capsule’s wildly popular compilation “Tokyo Riddim 1976-1985”. In just a matter of months they have sold out headline shows across London and supported Kyoto Jazz Massive at Jazz Cafe, conjuring a raucous, dubby dancefloor that brings the classic Japanese reggae sound of the ‘70s and ‘80s to life for a new generation.

Led by the inimitable pianist and composer Izumi ‘Mimi’ Kobayashi who featured on the original compilation, Tokyo Riddim Band are set to release a series of 7” singles in the coming months with more live shows planned throughout the summer 2024.

The first single, 'Denshi Lenzi', reinvents the Natural Mystic riddim of the original Japanese production, infusing it with dubbed-out vocals, sirens, and electrifying e-tom sounds, delivering an authentic reggae/dub experience with a distinct UK flair.
