The golden age of Caracas pop started in 1965. It replaced the wave of cloyingly romantic song writing as fresh talents leant into richer and more complex styles: folk-rock, psychedelia, soul, hard blues, symphonic pop, Latin rock etc. Singer-songwriters, experimental electric guitars and jam sessions all appeared on the scene, creating music that became increasingly refined and free. The industry took a while to catch on to this new trend and leave behind the teen idols and dream lifestyles. By the late 60s, there was a long list of new bands in the capital city. Young people finally found their voice. Let's set off together to discover the magic of Caracas in the late '60s!

In South London members Alan Lancaster (bass) and Francis Rossi (guitar) were the original members and founders of Status Quo. _x000d__x000a_Formerly known as The Spectres and later renamed to Traffic or Traffic Jam they settled for Status Quo as their band name in 1967. _x000d__x000a_The following years they were joined by John Coghlan (drums), Roy Lynes (keyboard) and Rick Parfitt (guitar)._x000d__x000a_Status Quo’s first hit record "Pictures of Matchstick Men" was released in 1968 .The single reached #7 in the UK, and remains the band's only major hit single in the US, where it reached #12. Their debut Picturesque Matchstickable Messages from the Status Quo soon followed. 20th Anniversary Edition of «The Creep» by Slomo, this ambient doom masterwork is available on vinyl for the first time via Ideologic Organ. This is a storied album of verbal history, and emerged from a figurative long barrow deep within a virtual space of great depth and contemplation, an inverted framing of acoustic space with heavy floors ranging from the wake of COIL to the heaviest Japanese fire of psychedelia to the monuments of drone coagulating in the early ‘aughts. A first CDR edition in 2005 garnered focus of heavyweights like SUNN O))), Julian Cope, the esoteric legendary record store Aquarius, and the Wire.
Ideologic Organ are honoured to have been tasked to bring this to a limited LP for the very first time, and collaborated with mastering genius Rashad Becker to create a 61 minute single LP in a perfect cut.

Our debut album THE CREEP was released in a run of 100 copies on FUCK OFF & DI in 2005, after attracting a great buzz in its earlier promo form. THE CREEP is a single 1-hour-long track recorded live with minimal overdubs & zero eye-contact. Malnourished musical structures flourish, flounder and flag in virtual stasis.

Vom Beginn des Album-Openers „Obsidian Mirror“ an ist die Atmosphäre beklemmend, dicht mit einem erstickenden Unbehagen. Techno pioneers Chris Liebing and Speedy J (aka Jochem Paap) reunite as Collabs 3000 for their 2025 EP, a brand new four-track release and their first new studio material together in nearly two decades.

Channeling the raw, improvisational energy of their recently revived Collabs 3000 live sets, these tracks build on the legacy of their acclaimed collaboration with a fresh, future-facing edge. The EP precedes the full remastered reissue of the electronic techno masterpiece, Metalism, out 14th November 2025, and celebrates a partnership that helped to define the sound of early '00s Techno.

Ken Jacobs, an essential figure of avant-garde cinema, developed the »Nervous Magic Lantern« in the 1960s — a self-made apparatus containing a spinning shutter, a light source, and lenses set in a wooden frame. Hand-painted circular slides, gently moved by hand, produce flickering imagery: geometric patterns, Rorschach-like inkblots, and three-dimensional forms that seem to float beyond the screen. These hallucinatory visions challenge perception and suggest what Jacobs once called »a whole new play of appearances«.

Unlike Jacobs’ politically charged works, the »Nervous Magic Lantern« is patently abstract, examining how the brain regulates perception. For these performances, Jacobs requested »sounds of daily life« — environmental recordings that anchor the phantasmagoria in reality. Field tapes of Chinatown streets, conversations, and other uncategorisable sounds became the material for Aki Onda’s sonic compositions, adding narrative resonance to the abstract visuals and creating an almost documentary dimension.

This album documents a performance of »Nervous Magic Lantern« at Spiral Hall, organised by Sound Live Tokyo on November 3, 2015. Jacobs’ selection and sequencing of slides offered improvisatory space, mirrored by Onda’s flexible arrangement of cassette recordings. The result is a work where life and art dissolve into one another — a soundtrack for life in the depth of illusion.

Friday Night in San Francisco is a live album by Al Di Meola, John McLaughlin, and Paco de Lucía.

It was recorded live at the Warfield Theatre in San Francisco,

on December 5 in 1980. The album is considered an iconic recording and was described by jazz author Walter Kolosky as
"a musical event that could be compared to the Benny Goodman Band's performance at Carnegie Hall in 1938...
it may be considered the most influential of all live acoustic guitar albums."

Al Di Meola is an acclaimed Italian American jazz fusion and Latin jazz guitarist, composer, and record producer.
He experienced a celebrated career that has spanned four decades and earned him critical accolades,
three gold albums and more than six million record sales worldwide.
Di Meola has amassed over 20 albums as a leader while collaborating on a dozen or so others.


John McLaughlin, also known as Mahavishnu, is an English guitarist, bandleader, and composer.
He is a pioneer of jazz fusion, combining elements of jazz with rock, world music,
Indian classical music, Western classical music, flamenco, and blues. He received multiple "Guitarist of the Year"
and "Best Jazz Guitarist" Awards from magazines such as Downbeat and Guitar Player and was ranked 49th in Rolling Stone
magazine's list of "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time". Jeff Beck called him "the best guitarist alive".

Paco de Lucía was a Spanish virtuoso flamenco guitarist, composer, and record producer.
He was one of the first flamenco guitarists to branch into classical and jazz. De Lucía was noted for his fast and fluent fingerstyle runs
and gained popularity outside Spain after collaborating with McLaughlin and Di Meola. Richard Chapman and
Eric Clapton described de Lucía as a "titanic figure in the world of flamenco guitar."

Though Toronto rockers Hot Garbage’s signature tinge of moody, heavy psychedelia remains present on Precious Dream, their forthcoming sophomore album careens at high speeds into a darker world of searing post-punk riffs, grappling with themes of dread, loss, the resilience of the human spirit and the highs and lows of solitude. From the onset, elegant yet brutalist sonic architectures provide the scenery for an escape route, while cryptic poetic spurts act as surreal signage. By the end of the journey, we are left with a strangely pleasant void, but also with an uncontrollable urge to backtrack into the outfit’s beautiful 36-minute musical trap. 'There are always those magical moments when a song comes out of nowhere. Once I had an idea for a chord sequence that I couldn't get out of my head, but somehow that certain something was still missing. I then spontaneously asked a bassist friend of mine if he would like to play something to it - ten minutes later we had a hook that carried the whole piece. It's these unexpected, spontaneous inspirations that make the process so exciting.'

Waage is at the heart of the contemporary dub techno scene and makes another fine statement with this outing on Icelandic titan Exxon's X/OZ Music. This is his fourth outing and it could be his best: 'W9' rolls with great depth and grainy dub textures that speak of a subterranean world. 'W10' is more dark and heavy like it's soundtracking a dirty factory after dark. 'W11 (feat Cold)' layers in some psychedelic swirls to frictionless beats that could roll for days and never get old. 'W12 (feat Exos)' is lighter and more airy with a playful bounce in the drums.

With Generation Of The Void, NAILED TO OBSCURITY have crafted their most mature and expansive album to date. Set for release on September 5th, 2025, the album reflects the turmoil of the post-pandemic era, the shadows of war in Europe, and the relentless changes affecting all of humanity. Fragments Of Reality is an ongoing series from 20/20 Visions that explores interplanetary sounds, and this seventh outing is another doozy. American artist Miles Mercer kicks off with the crunchy drums and big hits of his acid-laced electro-tech fusion, 'Voice Control.' Shaked flip the script with a funky minimal jam that's wired up with innocent sounding melodies and lush colours that feel psychoactive. Label curator Luther Vine then flips things once again with his punchy 'Take The Wheel' with its bold bassline and tight tech bounce, while London's Pach serves up 'Critical Emergency' which hits a sweet spot between trip-out cosmic synth work and kinetic drum programming. Four tasteful tools once more from this fine old label.

Als es darum ging, ihr viertes Album, „CHOROPHOBIA“, zu produzieren, stellten sich Weval ihren Ängsten. Obwohl Harm Coolen und Merijn Scholte Albers seit ihrer 2013 veröffentlichten Debüt-EP, „Half Age“, in der Dance-Szene verankert sind und mit ihrer fünfköpfigen Band Festivalbühnen wie Nuits Sonores, Lowlands, Primavera, Best Kept Secret, Pukkelpop und DGTL Amsterdam bespielten, haben sie sich aktiv davon entfernt, als Floorfiller-Act bekannt zu sein. Doch als die beiden vor kurzem über den Begriff Chorophobie stolperten - was so viel bedeutet wie Angst vor dem Tanzen -, beschlossen sie, sich der Ironie hinzugeben und aus ihrer Komfortzone herauszukommen. „Bis zu diesem Zeitpunkt hatten wir immer mit einer ‚Zuhör‘-Mentalität an unseren Platten gearbeitet.“, sagt Harm über die Herangehensweise beim zweiten und dritten Weval-Album („The Weight“ von 2019 und „Remember“ von 2023), „und uns wurde klar, dass wir während unserer gesamten Reise als Produzenten Angst davor hatten, Tanzmusik zu machen.“.

Als es darum ging, ihr viertes Album, „CHOROPHOBIA“, zu produzieren, stellten sich Weval ihren Ängsten. Die in Pereira, Kolumbien, geborene Dalt wuchs in einer musikbegeisterten Familie auf, die sie im Alter von neun Jahren dazu ermutigte, eine Gitarre in die Hand zu nehmen. Dalt folgte diesem kreativen Impuls, war fasziniert von computergestützter Produktion und verließ eine aufkeimende Karriere als Bauingenieurin, zog von Medellín nach Barcelona und schließlich nach Berlin, wo sie ihren unverwechselbaren, abenteuerlichen Sound entwickelte. Mit „Anticlines“ (2018) und „No era sólida“ (2020) und vor allem mit „¡Ay!“, Dalts bahnbrechendem Sci-Fi-Bolero-Album von 2022, hat sich ihre Arbeit auf immer anspruchsvolleres Terrain begeben. Auf dem Weg dorthin hat Dalt ihre Praxis auf die Vertonung von Filmen wie „On Becoming a Guinea Fowl“ (2024), die HBO-Serie „The Baby“ (2022) und den bevorstehenden psychologischen Horrorfilm „Rabbit Trap“ ausgeweitet, während sie Klanginstallationen und Performances kreiert, die ihre leuchtenden Modulationen und ihren unverwechselbaren, sich entwickelnden stimmlichen Ansatz zur Schau stellen. „A Danger to Ourselves“ entstand aus fragmentarischen Erklärungen, die Dalt aufschrieb, während sie das Leben auf der Tournee von „¡Ay!“ und die prägenden Momente einer neuen Beziehung meisterte. "Ich habe viele Stücke von Oscar Wilde gelesen, in denen sich alles um Paradoxe dreht", erklärt Steen. "In 'Cutthroat' geht es um diese ganze Idee aus 'Lady Windermere's Fan': 'Das Leben ist viel zu wichtig, um ernst genommen zu werden'." Auch diese freche Selbsterkenntnis ist wichtig. So sehr shame die Seifenblasen des Getöses und des Egos zerplatzen lassen wollen und uns ermutigen, in den Spiegel zu schauen und uns zu fragen: "Wer den ersten Stein wirft...", so sehr verstehen sie auch, dass das Leben im Grunde genommen oft lächerlich ist. Auf der Platte geht es meist politisch zu, beispielsweise in der Debüt-Single Hadamar, die von der NS-Tötungsanstalt im gleichnamigen Ort handelt, oder der Fuck-Fast-Fashion-Hymne Rana Plaza. In Dorfmatratze wird gegen die Doppelmoral heteronormativer Vorstellungen davon angebrüllt, wer mit vielen Menschen schlafen darf und wer nicht (Spoiler: Frauen*), und worum es bei Kein Freund Kein Helfer geht, kann sich wohl jede/r vorstellen. Dass der Humor trotz allem noch nicht ganz verloren ist, zeigen Songs wie Autobahnkirche, Tür zu oder Brautstrauß. Ein veganes 8-Bit-Sahnehäubchen wurde auch versteckt, und zwar in Form eines "Tür zu"-Remixes von the one and only Kem Trail. Bei Bike Punx darf sogar gute Laune aufkommen, aber bitte nur kurz. Wer Bock auf eingängigen Punk mit ein bisschen Schnörkeln und Emo-Vibes hat, der ist bei Theilen richtig abgebogen.

Mel D draws her inspiration from struggles felt in the current world climate: “I have felt overwhelmed by the world we live in and its countless challenges,” said Mel D. “As if we’re all a bit directionless in our own lives.” Nevertheless, Mel D uses her musicality as a tool for resistance - using it to transform sadness and anger into creativity, and to give world-weariness a voice that seduces, comforts, and inspires. On Young Bones, Mel D sings us to a place where we might find hope - with songs rooted in concern, solidarity, humanness, and empowerment, inviting the listener to lean into those feelings. Bring the Witches Back, a hymn to witchcraft, is a quiet song that summons the return of witches with feminist urgency, for more love and magic to open ourselves towards each other and the world. Soft, a soulful song with a tender melody, gently lulls the listener into an in-between dimension, full of opportunities. Meanwhile, in the coming-of-age ballad, Slowly Growing, she raises questions about belonging and identity, pointing directly at our emotional core. Where Do You Look When It Hurts? speaks to the sensation of exhaustion and emptiness, offering musical warmth and a sense of community in moments of lethargy. Finally, listening to the album, one always feels in good company. Playfully working in folk and electro-pop elements, Mel D takes us on a ride toward love and a sense of belonging, particularly on the track We win. Young Bones was recorded in Zurich and Paris with two outstanding producers of our times: Renaud Letang, who has previously collaborated with Feist, Chilly Gonzales or Lianne La Havas, and Dino Brandão. The latter recognized Mel D’s artistic uniqueness during their first meeting, inviting her to a recording session in his studio and bringing her into the band of Swiss superstar, Faber. Mel D’s solo project was more a product of coincidence than planning, as she says, even though an undisputed talent and passion for music had always been apparent throughout her youth. During her studies in fine arts in Zurich, she founded the electronica-duo mischgewebe, and composed soundtracks for theater and movie productions, as well as for exhibitions. Long before forming her current artistic identity, she went by the nickname Mel D, in a humorous reference to the Spice Girls. Although her personality and musical language suggest thoughtfulness and a melancholy touch, Mel D acknowledges that an honest laugh is never out of place, making her sympathetic and approachable.

Back on their own imprint for the first time since 2017, Gauss returns with Latent Space EP--three tracks of smoldering electro and dub-infused techno. The title track opens with a fresh take on the duo's signature sound: weighty low-end, kinetic rhythms, and slowly shifting pads that add both introspection and scale. Subtle yet immersive, it echoes earlier explorations while carving out a more refined and spacious terrain. Backprop shifts gears into floor-focused territory--percussive and punchy, with explosive chord stabs and tight drum programming. It's raw, relentless, and engineered for full-body impact. Closing the EP is Z-1, a tense electro workout driven by syncopated drums and morphing melodic sequences. Its constantly evolving structure gives the sense of forward motion without ever breaking its glide--a hypnotic, high-velocity closer in true Gauss form.

Influenced by the vibrant Caribbean community and the reggae sounds that permeated his environment, Danny Red was drawn to music at a young age. His journey began in the 1980s, but it was in the early 1990s that Danny Red truly started to make his mark in the reggae scene. Rise to prominence was marked by his unique voice and his commitment to the Rastafari movement, which heavily influenced his music. In the 1990s, as dancehall began to dominate the reggae scene, Danny Red stayed true to his roots reggae origins, focusing on socially conscious themes and spiritual messages.

Known for his powerful vocal delivery and a profound lyrical approach, Danny Red’s music often explores themes of cultural identity, social justice, and spiritual awareness. Here teamed up with south Italian collective Mystical Powa to bring lyrically rich and musically vibrant single. Exploring Rasta believe in holy place called Mount Zion that awaits for each good person. Backed with highly popular anthem horn piece entitled Kunta Kinte played by Eddie T-Bone. Both tunes comes with tuff dub versions ready to mash up all dances worldwide.

Nick Bike hops aboard his groove machine once again here for another superb run out, this time with his Italian mate Stan Brega on Chosen Spokes. 'Big Bizniss' gets going with a super cool and laid back downtempo, disco and funky fusion. Lavish horns, cowbells, sultry chords and effortlessly vibey vocals all make it an instantly lovable and hip-swinging summer classic. Flip it over and you'll find 'Forever & Ever', which is an epic, cosmic, Balearic, ambient and blissed out cover of a David Bowie mega-hit. Proggy guitars draw out the me option and make it a perfect end of the night tune to send people home teary-eyed but euphoric.

A multidisciplinary artist, and avant-garde icon in her own right, Little Annie leaves little room for an introduction that is worthy of her prolific career. She has remained relevant for over four decades through her innate spirit of experimentation and the multiplicity of her genre-bending collaborations with artists traversing the globe such as Adrian Sherwood, Swans, The Wolfgang Press, Kid Congo, Current 93—the list goes on!

For this release, Noir Age is proud to present a 7” single of new material from Little Annie in collaboration with South Florida-based producer and label owner Richard Vergez, recording here under the moniker of Night Foundation. Annie and Richard met back in 2016 after a gig at the ICA in Miami through their mutual friend: Drew McDowall of Coil.

Sharing a requited spirit for visual art and music, they became fast friends and began collaborating, conjuring what you hear on this release: Inertia.

In this instance, his work is smooth and bassoid enough to have a vague dancefloor-friendly feel without being overtly prancy. Of course, Little Annie's lyrics and casual vocals have more in common with urban menace than sunshine pop, so the pairing works quite well."

This is the second pressing of the highly sought after debut LP from dutch synth funk wizard Shook.

The special edition reissue is dedicated to Shook’s fans and special fan Nasa Astronaut Christina Koch who played the song ‘Always’ to her husband while she was in space during her ISS mission. In Koch’s words the song was “one of the most memorable anthems” of her mission.

To celebrate this achievement it was the right time to repress this masterpiece of exploratory electronic music with a special variant cover made by Marvel comics artist Stefan Tosheff based on the story of Koch.

Back in 2013 Harder Blogger Faster said: This debut album showcases Shook’s talents in a multitude of sonic intensities, emotions and styles without it ever being too show-y.

The album manages to find a perfect blend between nostalgic love letters and Shook’s need to combine cutting edge electronic instrumentation with his virtuoso abilities on the piano.

Lucas Chantre, aka WORLD BRAIN, last graced us with a solo release half a decade ago, with 2019’s Peer 2 Peer. As its name suggests, that album explored the promise and perils of universal connectivity via quirked-up songwriting and instrumental psychedelia. His new release, Open Source, deepens this internal and external journey. Bursting beyond the four walls of ‘bedroom pop’ and reflecting a move from Berlin to Paris—where much of the album was recorded—and on to Brussels, the album has a jazzy, cinematic scope (as on the Brubeck-inspired march “Fromage collatéral,”) enveloping the listener in a cosmic-pastoral audiosphere.

There are still many tones that evoke the software sounds of decades past (the exemplar here is “cAPTCHA,” whose virtual marimba and vocalese suggest a breathless, Exotica-inspired introduction .mov for the information superhighway) but the palette has become richer and more organic, lead by the woodwinds which play a major role throughout, with flute provided by labelmate Martha Rose. (On the aforementioned “cAPTCHA” one also hears the world-class whistling talents of the incomparable Molly Lewis.)

Yet the single most noticeable new element may be the use of Chantre’s native French, sung by his sister on “Ville fleurie” and the gorgeous, fluttering “Minute papillion” (the title an idiomatic injunction to slow down!) Chantre initially wrote these lyrics in English, but felt something wasn’t quite right, only realizing what was off when he heard them sung in another language. That spirit of discovery – of finding a new spark in returning home – suffuses Open Source. It invites us to play, beckons us to relax, reminds us to find serenity amidst the churn of the present: minute papillon, dans le tourbillon.

Editions Mego presents Bosko, landing exactly 30 years after the initial General Magic flights into the fantastic; the legendary first Mego release, a collaboration with Pita whereby all sounds were harnessed from the buzzing, drinking, humming sounds of fridges MEGO 001 General Magic & Pita and a 12” with Elin called Die Mondlandung (The Moon Landing) MEGO 002 which embarked on a minimal techno template so austere and strange it was one of the historic progenitors of austere and wonky rhythms alongside Sakho and other European explorers.

The initial return of the playful and mystical Austrian outfit General Magic came with the 20th year anniversary vinyl reissue of their classic debut Frantz eMEGO 010. A record so audacious and playful it still baffles as much as it entertains. At some point whilst working on this reissue GM’s Ramon Bauer and Andi Pieper were spurred on to rummage around with ideas and tools once more and after more than two decades of inactivity sonic sorcery was conjured once again. Live shows in honour of Peter Rehberg were performed in Vienna and London. Softbop, a limited risograph collaboration with Tina Frank came with the first new recordings as a digital download came out discreetly online. The first full length album following Rechenkönig in 2000 MEGO 032 “Nein Aber Ja” released in 2023 on Finlay Shakespeare’s GOTO Records on CD and cassette. An ongoing series of mix tapes online further highlights their interests encapsulating a new found angle on electronic mayhem. All of these elements retain the wildly eclectic and ecstatic glow that only they can harness and hand out to an unprepared world.

Now, we have General Magic’s second official full length comeback recording, Bosko. The new album is initially notable prior to the needle hitting the wax or the cursor identifying a track due to the artwork. Made by long term collaborator Tina Frank, this is Frank’s first analogue artwork, with a painting of a happy/nervous machine thing hovering in a landscape of no discernible identity. It’s quasi science fiction hovering amongst the potential for fun. Suited to the music? Natürlich.

Bosko sees Bauer and Pieper update and reframe their original investigations with a fresh supply of head scratching, heart racing tunes that hit the inexplicable with a wild mesh of drums, pianos, synthetic voices and all manner of immaterial sonic play. Startling sonics shock the ears on Club Duchamp which sounds like a conversation between synthetic adult ants in an environment still in development. Elfer features vocals supplied by a female-ish voice who, whilst grappling melody, has trouble executing a firm identity. Noorenhalt catapults along a mainframe of syncopation so unwieldy it feels like the voice, which is utterly alien, provides the only comfort. Seite 5 inhabits a fuzzy zone where a synthetic Horn of Jericho type ambience competes with rhythms never quite sure of who they are. Rise of the Ombré raises the spectral dread. Is this Science Fact? Absolutely nothing within Bosko is predictable.

The amount of change in the miasma of existence and the things we touch in order to make things has shifted so exponentially we are at the point where minds are starting to glaze over. All of this makes the return of the always original, always surprising, always fresh and exciting General Magic totally in tune with the artificial intelligent apocalyptic age we currently inhabit. The tools may have changed but the wonderfully warped gaze of Bosko offers a fresh new vision of perplexing funk and robotic punk.

voices in Gambian reggae: Royal Philosopher.

Royal Philosopher is a Gambian singer whose powerful and precious voice is shaped by spirituality, African heritage, and musical commitment.

Born in Banjul, he first discovered his vocal gift in a church choir, where he developed a heartfelt and sincere expression. He fell in love with reggae through the voice of Garnett Silk, whose intensity and devotion deeply influenced his path. He began his journey with the group The Royal Family, before pursuing a solo career, releasing music with consistency and authenticity.

Today, he presents "Thank You Jah", a single produced by Amoul Bayi Records, imbued with gratitude and faith, true to his artistic vision: sincere, elevated, and deeply connected.

Sure Thing welcomes the Warsaw-based,UkrainianartistSpace Biologyto the label, who delivers an elegant and enigmatic two-tracker that blurs the boundaries between the organic and the incorporeal, renderingphantoms into illusive sonic ephemera. Two remixes from Thailand’s Sunju Hargun and Sweden’s EvigtMörker complete the vision, reconfiguring each original track in masterful andsignature style and bringing new energies to focus.

Mesmerising album of Yokota’s earliest sonic explorations that demonstrates his unique vision and sublime transcendence of boundaries.

‘Image 1983-1998’ is a collection of short miniatures, composed in two different time periods. Tracks 1-5 were recorded with guitar and organ between 1983-4 and tracks 6-12 were composed through 97-98, being inspired by the earlier material.

A musical scrapbook, or sonic design board. The sleeve notes give an insight into Yokota’s belief in a close connection between music, memory and his active imagination: ‘Encountering Acid House made me visualise music – I could clearly see the sounds sparkling… this experience led me to create electronic music.’

Marja Ahti is a Swedish artist living in Turku, Finland. She works with found sounds, objects and electronics, creating auditory assemblages that reveal a profound sensitivity to sound’s tactile potential. This new record sees her palette expand to include more recognisable acoustic instrumentation, albeit working in collaboration with musicians who are already reconfiguring how those instruments can sound.

Touch This Fragrant Surface of Earth has its roots in a tape piece presented at Lampo in Chicago. Ahti then started working with Isak Hedtjärn (clarinet), Ryan Packard (percussion) and My Hellgren (cello) at the electronic music studios (EMS) in Stockholm. Incorporating recordings from those sessions, Ahti presented a new iteration of the work at the Seventh Edition Festival for Other Music in February 2024 with the trio performing live on stage whilst Ahti helmed the mixing desk, spatialising a specially made tape part through the INA GRM’s Acousmonium speaker orchestra. The piece has since gone through several further iterations before arriving at the version we have here on the LP's B-side where immense bass pressure and high frequency tones buffer restless amplified breath and scrape that folds over itself with extraordinary dynamics and subterranean activity before giving way to gorgeous resonant forms and passages of ritual purpose and sheer, unmistakeable beauty.

The A-side is Touch This Fragrant Surface of Earth’s gentle double. Still Life with Poppies, Mirror and Two Clouds offers a companion reconfiguration of Ahti’s resynthesised percussion sustain and the same recordings of Hedtjärn and Hellgren from EMS, but here they’re nestled in a sonic landscape of calm and restraint that gives them a wholly other character. Ahti also draws on older recordings she’d made of Sholto Dobie’s diy pipe organs and uses these to create repeating patterns and flourishes of sliding pitches that emerge unexpected out of cycling passages of Ahti’s clear struck metal, destabilising electronic interventions and minimal piano figures.

Marja Ahti: “I’ve been fascinated with the kind of elemental quality the sounds I'm using have such as airy sounds or earthy, wooden sounds. These qualities can also be found in wind instruments and percussion and the musicians I worked with on Touch This Fragrant Surface of Earth are really good at enhancing these qualities in their playing. I wanted to have this connection between found sounds, field recordings, or pre-recorded sounds, objects, and material, and see where these sounds might meet each other, and hopefully blend is a natural way without a divide between instrumental music, or acoustic music, or electronic music. But also, when you bring in people they come with their personalities and their ideas which is also energizing and brings surprising things into the collaboration that I couldn't come up with myself. I was really interested in making this a proper collaboration and not just coming up with the piece and giving it to them. We had the sessions at EMS where we could share ideas and Isak, Ryan and My could bring in their own ideas. Making recordings there gave me time to process these ideas and to also approach them in the same way that I would work with any other sound.”

letzte Album des klassischen Coltrane Quartetts, das noch zu seinen Lebzeiten veröffentlicht wurde.

Nach der limitierten EP "The Grand Designer" im Juni 2025, präsentiert Adrian Sherwood nun mit "The Collapse Of Everything" sein brandneues Werk, gleichzeitig sein erstes Soloalbum seit 13 Jahren und das vierte seiner langen Karriere. Auf diesem sorgfältig konzipierten Album lotet der Meisterproduzent und Mixologe mit seinem stets experimentierfreudigen Sound neue Grenzen aus. Obwohl die Musik auf "The Collapse Of Everything" von einem natürlichen Gespür für Dub geprägt ist, überschreitet sie fliessend Genregrenzen und vereint nahtlos verschiedenste Einflüsse, die Sherword in seinem Leben gehört und produziert hat. An den Aufnahmen beteiligt waren einige seiner langjährigen Mitstreiter wie Doug Wimbish (Living Color, The Sugar Hill Gang, Tackhead), Mark Bandola (The Lucy Show), Ivan "Celloman" Hussey, Alex White (Primal Scream, Fat White Family) und Chris Joyce (The Mothmen). Desweiteren flossen Beiträge der jüngst verstorbenen On-U-Legenden Keith LeBlanc (Sugarhill Gang, Tackhead) und Mark Stewart (Pop Group) ein.

Adrian Sherwood war in den letzten Jahren sehr beschäftigt mit Kollaborationen mit anderen Künstlern, von Remixarbeiten für Popkünstler wie Halsey, über von der Kritik gefeierten Full-Length-Dub-Rekonstruktionen für die Indierock-Titanen Spoon und Panda Bear & Sonic Boom, bis zur Produktion gefeierter Alben für die Reggae-Ikonen Lee "Scratch" Perry und Horace Andy am Ende ihrer Karriere ("Midnight Rocker" wurde vom Guardian zum weltweiten Album Nr. 1 des Jahres 2022 gekürt). Was bedeutet, dass Sherwood seit "Survival & Resistance", das fast auf den Tag genau vor 13 Jahren erschien, kein Album mehr als Solokünstler herausgebracht hat.
