It’s a rare occurrence for a band to continue making music into their fifth decade, even fewer top off that achievement with one of their most recent albums being named one of “2023’s Best Albums” by a venerable magazine like SPIN. But The Church did just that with The Hypnogogue, an album so adored by critics and fans alike that it ushered in an entirely new era for the Australian band.
Now armed with their 28th album Lacuna, the psychedelic dreampop legends continue to evolve and transform, remaining not only relevant but consistently delivering music that is innovative yet true to their signature sound. “Intense, forlorn, and exultant,” is how bassist/vocalist/founder Steve Kilbey describes the album.
With a measured command of melody and instrumentation that only comes with experience and age, it’s an album rife with indelible musical clasps that fasten hold of your attention and refuses easy surrender. It’s a steadfast talent that Kilbey hosts close to his chest that’s been ever-present in the 27 albums that preceded it (best evidenced by the jubilant, nearly sold out 2025-2026 Singles Tour legs across Australia and North America, featuring night after night of incredible three-hour sets).
Starting in 1980, The Church continued expanding their highly cinematic and atmospheric blend of indie rock, shimmering post-punk, icy dreampop and psychedelic post-rock without retreading their steps. Beginning with classic early albums Of Skins and Heart, The Blurred Crusade, and Heyday which built a sturdy foundation, 1988’s Starfish broke into the mainstream and gave The Church the international hit “Under the Milky Way.” The hit single has been regarded as one of the most influential and recognizable Australian rock anthems of all time.
Just over halfway through 2026 and Craig Bratley’s ‘Return to Bass’ has already been cited as one of the albums of the year and a future classic. Here, two of the album’s standout tracks return in a variety of guises.
First up is “Everybody Pushing”, featuring the vocal talents of Thomas Gandey. Recently described as a “proper blissed out Balearic rave tune,” this release pairs the original with an instrumental version and a remix from the ever reliable 40 Thieves. Their remix takes Everybody Pushing somewhere considerably more psychedelic, pushing the track into late-night territory while retaining the spirit of the original.
Bratley takes care of the title track “Return to Bass” with the Ashigaru Flashback Dub. Hitting harder than Anthony Joshua, the remix strips the track right back, ditching the trumpet in favour of sirens, vocal samples and tougher drums. The result sounds like what might have happened if N.W.A. had got their hands on some Purple Ohms and a TB-303.
Continuing his compelling exploration of dubwise pressure at 170, the relentlessly prolific Brendon Moeller returns to Samurai Music with six stunning demonstrations of purposeful minimalism and spatial intrigue. Arriving in tandem with a second EP of introspective meditations on Samurai sub label SAIBAI, Codebreaker finds Moeller's peerless run of shadowy broken dub techno yielding startling new forms as the upstate New York artist continues to mine a rich seam of inspiration.
There's a pronounced economy of sound exacted on Codebreaker that binds the tracks together aesthetically, taken to the furthest reaches of subtlety on 'Dorian Grey Frequencies' as filigree slithers of percussion skitter across a brooding surface of sub bass with little in the way of distraction. This approach allows the microscopic detail of Moeller's engineering to shine through, as every inflection and murmur crackles with lithe movement to give each track its captivating energy.
Fractured beatdowns creep into earshot on 'Static Possession', edging towards Gescom-informed B-boy structures head-spinning in cryo-stasis surrounded by the hum of machines from a distant future and punctuated with occasional bullet points of delay soaked acid. Even when the bass starts to snarl and the hi-hats start ticking faster on 'Interzone Pulse', they're managed with brutal precision and a narrative flow of anti-build-ups that maintains a nail-biting tension throughout.
The decision to lean into a stripped-back sound on Codebreaker shows the faith Moeller places in his particular interpretation of bassweight 170, as his jaw-dropping sound design speaks volumes with the most modest of lexicons in a dialect never heard before.
Yuki Kawamura - a multifaceted producer, songwriter, DJ, and the founder of Tokyo's iconic DJ warmup bar, Shibuya Oiran - presents a highly anticipated 12" vinyl release on her imprint OIRAN MUSIC.

Hoshina Anniversary returns to MUSAR for his fourth appearance on the label with Sankaku, a five-track EP offering the latest snapshot of his ever-evolving ‘Watechno’ sound.
Taking its name from the Japanese word for ‘triangle’, Sankaku opens with a storming, floor-focused title track, pairing hypnotic techno rhythms with shifting textures and sharp acid drops. Tsuppari follows, named after the rapid hand thrusts used in sumo. Driving percussion, Japanese instrumentation and a raw techno pulse give the track a physical, forward-moving energy, making it a natural club cut.
Side B opens with Kono Kanjitte, where acidic tones meet jazzy elements and a playful sense of uncertainty. Slower and psychedelic, it unfolds as a track for restless minds and hazy nights. Ariake, named after the Ariake Sea, moves into more spacious territory, with Japanese instrumentation creating an atmosphere of mystery and anticipation, like looking towards an unknown horizon. Closing the EP, Itsukushimi brings a melancholic blend of melodic touches and darker cinematic tension, recalling the atmosphere of a Hitchcock soundtrack.
With ‘Sankaku’ EP, Hoshina Anniversary turns Japanese imagery, psychedelic textures and club-driven rhythms into a world that feels both familiar and otherworldly.

Alveromancy is a method of divination performed by attending to and interpreting certain sounds, so that the loudness of sound is taken to indicate the severity of predicted event and from its proximity how soon the event will come to pass.
The label’s first divination session is made up of 4 selected cuts originally composed between 1994 and 1996 coming from Fred Exelby’s archives, bringing his All Broken solo project back to a renewed life more than 30 years after his last release.
Rooting its core into Canada’s 90s DIY electronic scene and drawing inspiration from themes such as anti-pop culture, shared knowledge, music programming and his formative frequentation of the seminal Rivoli in Toronto, this record might also be seen as a picture in time, a reflection of Fred’s world back then.
Belfast artist ffolliott draws on family archive and analogue sounds for debut album full of life and texture.
In a world awash with AI slop, here is the antidote. Written and recorded over five years in a Belfast home studio, ffolliott’s debut album Gree leaves the hiss, crackle and instability of life intact - pairing a deeply personal record with decades of artwork and sketches from his late father’s archive.
Released via Kitto Records, Gree is built from vinyl samples, analogue equipment, and intimate guitar with vocals laced with fragments of childhood memory. The album also features unexpected contributions from Grammy Award winning artist Kaidi Tatham. Gree is just the second release from the idiosyncratic artist ffoliott, following IDKWHY, which was released quietly as part of Rhythm Section's Shouts 2021 compilation, and went on to garner millions of streams and support from tastemakers across KCRW, NTS and BBC Radio.

A native of the island nation of Cape Verde, Cesaria Evora was known as the country's foremost practitioner of the morna, a combination of West African percussion with Portuguese fados, Brazilian modinhas, and British sea shanties. After a short singing career in the 1970’s, she returned in the late ‘80s with a string of critically acclaimed and increasingly popular albums.
Her 1999 album Café Atlantico (a reference to her home where she frequently entertained guests) is a much-acclaimed masterpiece, finding Evora venturing into more Latin American musical landscapes, as opposed to Portuguese, which dominated her previous albums. Evora draws from traditional Cuban and Brazilian music to mesmerizing effect. The music is heart-breaking and nostalgic, warm and tragic all at once.

Jake Xerxes Fussell’s 4th album finds the acclaimed folksong interpreter, guitarist, and singer navigating fresh sonic and compositional landscapes on the most conceptually focused, breathtakingly rendered, and enigmatically poignant record of his wondrous catalog. Produced by James Elkington and featuring formidable players both familiar (Casey Toll, Libby Rodenbough) and new (Joe Westerlund, Bonnie “Prince” Billy), it includes Jake’s first original compositions; atmospheric arrangements with pedal steel, horns, and strings. One of the most striking and strangely moving moments on Jake Xerxes Fussell’s gorgeous Good and Green Again an album, his fourth and most recent, replete with such dazzling moments arrives at its very end, with the brief words to the final song “Washington.” “General Washington/Noblest of men/His house, his horse, his cherry tree, and him,” Fussell sings, after a hushed introductory passage in which his trademark percussively fingerpicked Telecaster converses lacily with James Elkington’s parlor piano. That’s the entire lyrical content of the song, which proceeds to float away on orchestral clouds of French horn, trumpet, and strings, until it simply stops, suddenly evaporating, vanishing with no fade or trace, no resolution to its sorrowful minor-key chord progression, just silence and stillness and stark presidential absence. It feels like the end of a film, or the cold departure of a ghost, and is unlike anything else Jake has recorded. In all his work Jake humanizes his material with his own profound curatorial and interpretive gifts, unmooring stories and melodies from their specific eras and origins and setting them adrift in our own waterways. The robust burr of his voice, which periodically melts and catches at a particularly tender turn of phrase, and the swung rhythmic undertow of exquisite, seemingly effortless guitar-playing here he plays more acoustic than ever before pull new valences of meaning from ostensibly antique songs and subjects. On Good and Green Again, Jake not only ventures beyond his established mastery of songcatching and songmaking into songwriting, but likewise navigates fresh sonic and compositional landscapes, going green with lusher, more atmospheric and ambitious arrangements. The result is the most conceptually focused, breathtakingly rendered, and enigmatically poignant record of his wondrous catalog. It’s also his most deliberately premeditated album, representing his fruitful return to a producer partnership after two self-produced projects, What in the Natural World (2017) and Out of Sight (2019) (William Tyler produced his friend’s self-titled 2015 debut.) This time James Elkington produced and played a panoply of instruments, bringing to Jake’s arcane song choices his own peerless sense of harmony and orchestration, balance and dramatic tension. The pair enlisted a group of formidable players including regular bandmembers Casey Toll (Mt. Moriah, Nathan Bowles) on upright bass, Libby Rodenbough (Mipso) on strings, and Nathan Golub on pedal steel. They were joined by welcome newcomers Joe Westerlund (Megafaun, Califone) on drums, Joseph Decosimo on fiddle, Anna Jacobson on brass, and veteran collaborator and avowed Fussell fan Bonnie “Prince” Billy, who contributes additional vocals. Album opener “Love Farewell” (featuring some beautiful singing by Bonnie “Prince” Billy), an elliptical tale of the folly of war, set to the world’s most heartbreaking goodbye march for a lover left behind. “Carriebelle” and “Breast of Glass” each similarly concerns, in its own way, romantic love and leavings. All three songs highlight Jacobson’s diaphanous, understated brass parts, tying them together in a true lover’s knot. “Rolling Mills Are Burning Down,” with its distant keening strings and capacious sense of space, observes and mourns the loss of work and community in the wake of elemental disaster. You'd be hard pressed to name a song with the driving, emotional intensity and raw energy of the Hamilton Movement's anthemic ode to heartbreak, "She's Gone." Issued as the B-Side of the band's 1976 single "We're Gonna Party," and distributed in and around Indianapolis, there is no evidence the song garnered significant attention upon release—yet over the past fifty years it has amased a cult of devotees across the globe. But while interest in the group's music remains strong, little information has surfaced about the Hamilton Movement's history, and until now, there have been no official reissues of their work. This collection presents the band's discography, alongside previously unreleased music discovered on tape; it is the Indianapolis soul album that should-have-been.
The keys to the Hamilton Movement's mystery can be found in central Indiana, where promoter Dick Melvin has lived the past few decades, in a rural suburb of Indianapolis, amidst forests and cornfields. Melvin served as the group's manager throughout their entire existence, but his involvement extended far beyond typical managerial duties. He co-wrote and co-arranged the band's music; he produced and released their recordings on his Look Out label. Dick is also the band's archivist. His home is filled with boxes of demo sessions, live tapes, contracts, posters, and promotional photos documenting his work with the Hamilton Movement. He entrusted his archive to Now-Again's care and they've assembled this album under his watch. Dick's story, and the story of his band, are presented in an extensive, oversized booklet with Dick's rarely-seen photos and ephemera and words by Now-Again's Egon and Naptown historian Kylie Long.

Minyo Crusaders return with theiir highly anticipated sophomore album TOUR OF JAPAN following on from their debut that has sold 4k on vinyl since release and their runaway single smash 'Cumbia Del Monte Fuji' that has almost hit 5million streams on Spotify.
Since the release of their debut in 2019 the band have toured Europe four times playing major European festivals such as Roskilde, Best Kept Secret, Green Man Festival, WOMAD, Fusion, Les Escales, Lowlands and many, many more, succesfully road-testing the songs from this album.
On this new album which has been mixed by Mario from Frente Cumbiero, Minyo have finessed their winning formula of adapting ancient Japanese folk somgs to global rhythms with influences this time from Ethiopia, boogaloo, salsa, West Africa and jazz. Led by Sicilian musician, producer and visual artist Nicola Giunta (founder of Lay Llamas), The Thugs return with Mighty Tiger Dubs, a new nine-track album via Aagoo Records.
Written and produced by Giunta and performed with Andrea Davi, Mighty Tiger Dubs expands the psychedelic dub world introduced on 2023's Holy Cobra Dub. Blending roots dub, electro-dub, post-punk and psychedelia, the album follows a surreal narrative set on a mysterious pale green island, where Kali worship, a giant anaconda attack, underground fire rituals and anti-colonial struggle unfold through hypnotic rhythms and wordless vocals.
Unlike its predecessor, the album is built entirely around drum machines, creating a more direct rhythmic foundation for Giunta's distinctive fusion of Jamaican dub traditions with post-punk and experimental sounds. Inspired in part by Giunta's experience performing with Damo Suzuki of Can, the record features improvised, lyric-free vocals throughout.
Since emerging in 2021 as a studio-based project, The Thugs have earned praise from dub, psych and underground music circles, with support from figures including On-U Sound, Chris Reeder (Rocket Recordings) and Populous.
The third single off her seminal 1989 debut album, "Ladies' First" remains one of Queen Latifah's signature songs Featuring Monie Love, "Ladies' First" became an anthem of women's empowerment. This 7" also includes a B-side of "Come Into My House," originally released in 1990 as the fourth single.
