Über Jahre komponierte die in Englang geborene Halb-Norwegerin klassische Musik, die weltweit mit Preisen ausgezeichnet wurde. Gleichzeitig aber übten zeitgenössischen Pop-Musiker wie Andrew Bird, Tom Waits, Björk und Joanna Newsom mit ihrem innovativen Songwriting und ungewöhnlichen Arrangements eine wahnsinnige Faszination auf Sasha aus. Im Ergebnis ist Most Of The Boys eben das, was es ist - ein ungwöhnliches Album, idiosynkratrisch und groß. Siem wuchs in London auf als Tochter eines norwegischen Vaters und einer englischen Kunsthistorikern auf. Sie begann mit 5 Jahren Klavier zu spielen, kurz danach kam Cello dazu und mit 11 Jahren studierte sie an den Wochenenden an Londons Guildhall. Bereits mit 20 Jahren hat sie für angesehene Orchester wie das London Symphony Orchestra, das London Philharmonic Orchestra und das Norwegian Chamber Orchestra komponiert. 2010 gewann sie den British Composer Award. Ihre Liebe zur Poesie brachte sie schließlich dazu, Ausdrucksmöglichkeiten neben der Klassik zu suchen und sie fand sie in ihren Songs die schlussendlich zum Album Most Of The Boys wurden.

Band und dazugehörige Debüt-Platte in Österreich auf ein Platin-Level hochzuspielen, sondern man hat es ganz nebenbei auch noch geschafft, mit - Amore sein eigenes Schlagwort ins Wörterbuch der deutschsprachigen Popkultur zu zimmern. Und da ist jetzt noch nicht mal über die kollektive Euphorie an der Schwelle Hysterie gesprochen, die Wanda in den über 150 Konzerten der letzten 12 Monate auszulösen vermochten. Composer, improviser, and Buchla Music Easel master Charles Cohen returns to Morphine with a suite of new material.
In keeping with the timbre spectrum of his semi-modular system, Brother I Prove You Wrong is built around pointillist analog tones—Cohen's cosmic "beeps and boops"—that swarm and scatter in mesmeric patterns across four sides. Moving through surrealistic textural overlays and industrial miasma, the album's nine tracks reveal a more introspective and personal side of the artist, following from a retrospective LP trilogy released via Morphine in 2013. Those assembled works, dating back to the late '70s, quickly became essential listening and brought Cohen—at the time largely unknown outside Philadelphia's experimental circuit—to critical renown.

Fantastic new LP on Pin Cushion Records featuring eight superb tracks of the finest funky rock, folk and soul. The A side kicks off with the awesome funky monster 'Save Me', an absolute dancefloor bomb with slamming b-line from Nanette Workman's self titled 1976 LP. Next up is the super funky 'Lucky Lost Sin', a wicked female vocal funk-folk-jazz cut that also works well in the clubs, followed the great uplifting vibe of Rory Block's 'Lovin' Of Your Life'. Closing this side we have the wonderfully laid-back 'Santa Cruz Mountains' taken from Eddie Callahan's hugely in-demand and impossible to find 'False Ego' LP. The flip side features the excellent 'Spill The Wine', a great Rhodes-driven workout from Eric Burden's WAR, followed by David Amram's 'Message To The Politicians of the World', a killer spoken word track over a sweet melody. Next up is Friends Of Distinction's 'Light My Fire', an amazing funky cover of the Doors' classic taken from their rare 1969 Highly Distinct LP and last but not least a cool breezy summer groover from Bay Area band Kingfish whose lineup included the legendary Bob Weir, founder member of The Grateful Dead. A superb selection of tracks, not to be missed.

„Zarro“ war die erste Studioaufnahme des verstorbenen jamaikanischen Sängers Wayne Smith, der 1985 mit „Under Mi Sleng Teng“ zur Stimme der digitalen Revolution des Dancehall werden sollte. Diese Aufnahme aus dem Jahr 1980 für den Produzenten Prince Jammy, der auch „Sleng Teng“ produzierte, verwendet denselben Begleittrack wie Lacksley Castells „What A Great Day“, das ebenfalls auf 7-Zoll-Single (VPGS7107) erhältlich ist. Smiths Version wurde vor dieser 7-Zoll-45er-Single noch nie veröffentlicht und war nur gelegentlich auf Jammys Soundsystem in Jamaika zu hören. Der „Zarro“, auf den er sich bezieht, ist der TV-Selbstjustizler Zorro, ein maskierter Popkultur-Held aus den Disney-Western der 1950er und 60er Jahre, den Smith aus den „Spätabendfilmen“ zitiert. Neben dieser ersten Aufnahme und dem bekannteren „Under Mi Sleng Teng“ nahm Smith auch herausragende, aber wenig bekannte LPs für Jammy auf, darunter „Youthman Skanking“ aus dem Jahr 1982 (VPGSRL7098) und „Smoker Super“ aus dem Jahr 1985 (VP4269).

The fifth instalment in the label’s well-established Fluid Files series, this new mosaic of sun-streaked joints summons the voices of faces old and new, sewn together with that similar Chicago-typical, laid-back attitude and a thread of unstoppable funkiness.

Diving first with a slice of velvety, looped out piano house boogie on a solid French filtered house tip, Dutch outfit Fouk lays down a proper enticing number for the late summer hours, packed with elastic bass jack, anthemic stabs and a sun-kissed shimmer straight out a blissed out coastal escape. Label alum Danou P follows up with a further bouncy number, dishing out a seriously infectious mix of acid-abraded bass and warped floor dynamics, ready to knock dancers askew with its lush, synth-flooded hooks and fun-loving, oddball swing.

More on the muscular side of things, Ben Diggins clocks in with the steroid-fueled balearic hoodoo of ‘Mascotte’ - a tune built for the undying after vibes, when the sun begins to rise and the crowd’s levels of serotonin hit a new high. Prismatic and powered-up, Diggins’ track injects any heavy-lidded engine with his own concoction of driving percussion, utopian motifs and fluttering, ambient-leaning harmonics.

Rounding off this four-part sonic journey, Colombian vibist DFRA teams up with Argentinian singer Denise Izaguirre on the heavily Latin jazz-informed, ‘Impulse’. Soulful and oneiric, the song taps in both artists’ musical heritage whilst pushing for new directions through the combined use of electronic and acoustic instruments (congas, trumpet, synths, drum machine…) - contrasting and complementary, shaping an entirely new and singular vision that is drenched in a bittersweet blend of warm melancholy and bracing hopefulness

For its second outing, Sonum invites Matteo Point, whose Acid People EP expands the label's catalogue with four cuts navigating the space between acid house, progressive textures and analogue-driven club music.

The title track, "Acid People," sets the tone with tightly wound 303 sequences, sparse drums and a hypnotic sense of momentum, landing somewhere between functional peak-time tool and late-night trip. "Fresh Morgen" follows with a rolling low end before gradually unfolding into darker, more melodic territory, recalling the subtle tension of late-'90s European underground records.

On the B-side, "Musika Progressiva" revisits progressive house without falling into nostalgia, reshaping familiar motifs through a contemporary lens while maintaining its analogue warmth. Closing cut "Vvvaneggg" shifts towards Detroit-inspired rhythms and understated machine funk, offering a stripped-back groove built for patient selectors.

Across four tracks, Matteo Point delivers a collection that feels both immediate and enduring—club-focused without sacrificing character. With Acid People EP, Sonum continues to carve out its own space, championing records that draw equally from the past and the future of underground dance music.

Strut proudly presents an expansive deep dive into the world of Quatermass Sound Lab, the prolific under-the-radar East London studio founded and run by producer, engineer and The Heliocentrics co-founder Malcolm Catto. Over the last two decades, Catto has quietly established himself as a sought-after sonic architect in contemporary music. Revered for his analogue-first approach, he has built Quatermass Sound Lab around vintage recording equipment, valve preamps and live performance, creating recordings that feel warm and timeless. Equally inspired by punk, hip-hop, psychedelic rock, jazz, funk and electronic music, Catto has developed a production style that rejects genre boundaries in favour of instinct and atmosphere. Describing himself as "50% musician and 50% listener," Catto approaches each session as a collaborator rather than a conventional producer. That philosophy has made Quatermass Sound Lab a creative home for an extraordinary range of musicians, from established innovators to emerging voices. His remarkable discography spans collaborations with Yussef Dayes, DJ Shadow, Madlib, Quantic, Mulatu Astatke, Orlando Julius, Idris Ackamoor & The Pyramids and countless others, each project using analogue wizardry to shape bold, contemporary recordings with a character all of their own.

The fifth LP in the long history of the label comes from another Belgian producer who is ready to fly high. After San Soda, Metrobox, Uni Son and label boss Red D it is now time for Tom Smeyers to step up and take us into his universe of warm grooves and sweet house music…with a twist.

Taking in influences from around the full spectrum of electronic music these six tracks represent what Tom is about at the moment. From deepest old school inspired house to more broken beat action right into drum’n’bass territory, with an attention to detail and experienced sound design.

Forbidden Dance Records returns with its 13th release to the city where the label's journey first began: Chicago.
For The Black Is The Night EP, longtime Chicago house figure Vick Lavender joins forces with multi-instrumentalist Justin Dillard for three deeply musical downtempo cuts, bringing together the language of Chicago house with jazz, soul and live instrumentation.
Born and raised on Chicago's West Side, Dillard is a pianist, Hammond organist, percussionist, composer and arranger whose musical path has crossed with figures such as Branford Marsalis, Ornette Coleman, Roscoe Mitchell and the late Von Freeman. His musicianship has also become an integral part of Lavender's richly organic productions over the years.
Across three tracks, Lavender and Dillard slow down the tempo without losing the pulse. Warm keys, live instrumentation and loose percussion unfolding through the kind of deep, soulful arrangements that have long defined their work together.
A return to Chicago, but from a different angle.

Following the success of Denshi Ongaku No Bigaku Vol. 1 and Vol. 2, Cosmocities returns with the third instalment of its celebrated compilation series dedicated to the rich and ever-evolving world of Japanese electronic music. Compiled by label owner Matt Soulie, Denshi Ongaku No Bigaku Vol. 3 continues the journey through Japan’s diverse sonic landscape, bringing together pioneering artists, cult favourites and contemporary innovators across ambient, house, jazz-infused electronics and experimental sound design.

A carefully curated snapshot of Japanese electronic music past and present, Denshi Ongaku No Bigaku Vol. 3 showcases the depth, innovation and enduring influence of one of the world’s most inspiring musical cultures.

Since its inception, the Denshi Ongaku No Bigaku project has paid tribute to a musical culture that has profoundly influenced the Cosmocities vision. Where the first volume explored dreamy ambient textures and deep electronic moods, and the second shifted focus towards boogie-laden rhythms and jazz-fuelled dancefloor excursions, Volume 3 finds a natural balance between introspection and movement.

The compilation opens with Yosi Horikawa’s sublime “Bubbles”, an ambient masterpiece whose delicate organic textures gently set the tone. Chari Chari’s “Luna de Ritmos” follows with deep, ethereal house atmospherics before Force Of Nature’s hypnotic “Skyy High” guides listeners further into immersive territory.

The journey continues through the experimental electronics of XTAL’s “Skygazer” and the analogue warmth of Takuya Matsumoto’s “Jump Rope Music”, while regular Cosmocities contributor Yuu Udagawa delivers the sophisticated high-tech jazz house groove of “Little Secrets”.

On the second half of the collection, Kuniyuki’s remix of Slow Didi’s “Follow Me” brings rich jazz-inflected elegance, leading seamlessly into the futuristic techno-swing fusion of DJ Eiji Takehana featuring Yusuke Nakamura’s “Deep Track Jazz”. Tominori Hosoya’s “Summer Dreamers” adds a deeply emotional and dreamlike house moment before Azzurro’s “Just A Touch Of Love” shifts the focus firmly towards the dancefloor with a hypnotic late-night thumper.

Closing the compilation is AcidGelge’s “Fatality 4”, a beautifully spacey and atmospheric finale that leaves the listener suspended somewhere between the club, the cosmos and the imagination.

Powerhouse vocalist Sandra St. Victor returns with Eleven, her eleventh studio album and first solo release in over a decade. From her years with The Family Stand to collaborations with Roy Ayers, Curtis Mayfield, Chaka Khan, Prince and Lalah Hathaway, Sandra has built a remarkable career that has consistently blurred the lines between soul, funk, jazz and gospel.

Executive produced by Sandra St. Victor and Patrick Gibin for Mother Tongue, Eleven brings together Sandra's longtime collaborators alongside the Mother Tongue family, bridging her rich musical legacy with a fresh, forward-looking sound rooted in soul, jazz, boogie and soulful dance music.

The album combines brand new compositions with inspired reinterpretations, from Kaidi Tatham's stunning reimagining of Captain Sky's Moonchild and his masterful reinvention of the Leon Ware/Syreeta underground gem Tiki Tiki Donga, to a beautifully understated new version of Sandra's own Dizzy, originally released on Gemini: Both Sides in 2001 featuring Questlove, Roy Ayers and Donald Byrd, here reimagined by Mark de Clive-Lowe. The A-side delivers two sublime cuts drenched in that unmistakable Italo-Balearic magic. Warm chords, sun-kissed melodies and effortless grooves transport you straight back to the golden days of mid-'90s Italian house music. Eyes closed, you're cruising along the Riviera with the top down, lost in pure bliss.
Flip it over and the mood shifts firmly toward the dancefloor.

The B-side explores deeper territory, moving through a range of shades while keeping things locked into a tough, clubfocused framework. There's a distinct New York stomp running through these tracks—driving, hypnotic and full of attitude— yet they never lose the emotional depth and musicality that have become a Westcoast Goddess trademark.

Just when you think the journey is complete, the EP saves its ace for last. Closing things out is a hypnotic funk groove built around silky Rhodes, a tight rhythm section and an iconic bassline—a fitting finale that leaves a lasting impression. A seriously strong package from start to finish, and another essential chapter in the ever-expanding world of D3 Elements.

"John Beltran joins forces with Ireland’s Intrinsic Rhythm for a masterclass in emotional Detroit Techno with his "Roots EP" featuring a deep & soulful remix from Fireground.

Few names command the same reverence in electronic music as John Beltran. Since pioneering the more melodic, ambient-soaked textures of Detroit techno in the 1990s and 00s, the Michigan producer has spent over three decades crafting electronic music with an unmistakable human soul.
For his latest outing, Beltran links up with Irish imprint Intrinsic Rhythm for a physical and digital release after previously providing a remix for IR004 . The A1 "My Faith In You" is a perfect distillation of his signature sound: lush, cinematic chord progressions, propulsive rhythm arrangements, and that deep-running emotive warmth that makes his catalog timeless and this continues on the A2 with "Gratiot" a timeless piece of Deep Detroit Techno with a shuffling groove and precise tones and textures.

Sharpening the edge of the package is a stellar remix from dynamic Italian duo Fireground. Known for their driving, soulful and rich sound on labels like Tresor and Ilian Tape, Fireground adds a deeper more textured version of "Gratiot" and reconstructs it into a sun drenched musically rich remix. Together, the release forms a beautiful bridge between the two artists. "

Label boss Alessio Collina is finally here with his first E.P on the limited series! “Shades of me E.P” is one of the most personal work he ever made until now because it touches different styles of House, rooted always from the same school. We start from the A side where we find “Bloom in the garage” as first track: Old-school groove, fat bassline, dirty drums and some Garage stabs with the hot swing by MPC1000. Although best-known these days for serving up blissful Balearic beats, Chris Coco's Coco, Steel & Lovebomb project started life as a platform for his early 90s house productions. Pleasingly, the veteran British producer is now making house again, in this instance in cahoots with long-serving Italian artist DJ Rocca. On side A, they both deliver their own pass on 'Echoes In My Mind', with Rocca's fluid, warm and organic Italian dream house-meets-Balearic house pass being followed by Coco's hybrid deep house/nu-disco take. They jointly explore their love of African musical culture on languid, hazy and mid-tempo B-side 'Mama Sol Mama Africa', where fluttering flutes, warm Rhodes keys and layered percussion catch the ear.
