Für Ferris MC gibt es keine Szene, der er angehört, er ist seine eigene Szene. Johann Sebastian Bachs Cellosuiten sind ein Prüfstein und eine Quelle der Inspiration für Yo-Yo Ma, seit er im Alter von vier Jahren die ersten Noten der Suite Nr. 1 kennenlernte. Zum 40jährigen Jubiläum veröffentlicht Sony Classical die 1983 entstandene Einspielung der Suiten - seine allererste - in einer neuen Ausgabe mit drei LPs: "J.S. Bach: The Six Unaccompanied Cello Suites - The 1983 Sessions" Die Edition umfasst drei neu gepresste Picture-Discs in einem Trifold Jacket mit exklusiven, noch nie gezeigten Fotos der damaligen Aufnahmesitzungen sowie einem Essay des Produzenten Richard Einhorn.J.S. Bachs Suiten für Violoncello, die zwischen 1717 und 1723 komponiert wurden, stehen an der Spitze des Solocello-Repertoires, seit Pablo Casals sie vor weit über einem Jahrhundert wiederentdeckte und aufzuführen begann. In drei Aufnahmen für Sony Classical und in Dutzenden von Live-Aufführungen auf der ganzen Welt sind die Suiten zu einer Art künstlerischer Signatur für Yo-Yo Ma geworden, der für die Aufnahme von 1983 den ersten seiner 19 GRAMMY®-Awards gewann. Obwohl er die Suiten noch zwei weitere Male an entscheidenden Momenten seiner Karriere aufgenommen hat, war es diese Aufnahme von 1983, die der Welt die singuläre Weite wie Tiefe seines künstlerischen Anspruchs und Könnens versprach. Der Produzent Richard Einhorn schreibt in seinem Begleittext zur neuen Ausgabe: "Als ich mir die Suiten jetzt anhörte, verliebte ich mich erneut in Yo-Yo Mas Interpretationen. Das erste Wort, das ich für diesen Aufsatz notiert habe, war 'Überschwang', ein Überschwang, der von Anfang an in Hülle und Fülle vorhanden war ... Yo-Yo hat die Bach-Suiten später sowohl als Audio- als auch als Video-Aufnahmen neu eingespielt; sie sind alle gleichermaßen bemerkenswerte Leistungen. Aber natürlich bleibt diese Version mein Favorit: Ich höre so viel von der überschwänglichen Persönlichkeit meines langjährigen Freundes in diesen wunderbaren Interpretationen einiger der größten Musikstücke, die je geschrieben wurden."

Yo! Bum Rush The Show was the debut album from Public Enemy, originally released in April 1987 on Def Jam Recordings. The album debuted the sample-heavy sound by production team The Bomb Squad and was very much a Rick Rubin-directed production. Each track is comprised of kicking heavy guitars toward the front, honing the loops, rhythms, and samples into a roar with as much in common with rock as rap.

Yo! Boombox is the new instalment of Soul Jazz Records’ Boombox series on the early days of hip-hop on vinyl and features some of the many innovative underground first-wave of early rap and disco rap records made in the USA in the period 1979-83.

The album includes the first releases of seminal groups such as Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five and The Funky Four Plus One More through to a host of rarities and little-known obscurities such as the Carver Area High School band’s ‘Get Live 83’, an awesome record made at a Chicago high school.


The album is released as a deluxe triple LP complete with 3x full inner sleeves of extensive sleeve notes, exclusive photography and original label artwork. There is also a very-limited one-pressing only special deluxe version that comes with an extra bonus super-rare 7” single of ‘Magic’s Rap’ by Magic’s Trick, aka ex-marine Magic Fraga, a record that was only ever available on US military bases!


Yo! Boombox also features the stunning photography of Sophie Bramly, one of a very select group of photographers (alongside Henry Chalfant, Martha Cooper, and Joe Conzo) who were allowed full access to document the exciting early days of hip-hop in New York.
These first exuberant wave of innocent, upbeat, party-on-the-block rap records were the first to try and create the sounds heard in community centres, block parties and street jams that first took place in the Bronx in the mid-1970s. Where the first DJs – Flash, Kool Herc and Bambaataa – were back-spinning, mixing and scratching together now classic breakbeat records like The Incredible Bongo Band’s Apache or Babe Ruth’s The Mexican, these first pre-sampling rap records were all made using live bands, often replaying then current disco tunes.

As Chic’s ‘Good Times’ was to ‘Rappers’ Delight’, the songs here feature then-current dancefloor hits such as the Tom Tom Club’s ‘Genius of Love’, Cheryl Lynn’s ‘To Be Real’, MFSB’s ‘Love Is the Message’ while MCs rapped over the top, creating a unique new sound. In fact, the links between disco and rap date back earlier to the ‘party style’ MCing of figures such as the legendary DJ Hollywood or radio DJs like Frankie Crocker.

Compay Segundo was a legend of Cuban music and “Yo vengoaquí” his first album with a major distribution. Released in 1996 when Compay was 88, it features Latin music classics like “Chan Chan”, “Sarandonga”, “Yo vengoaquí”, “Macusa” or “Virgen del pino”.

Compay was the Godfather of the Son and the Cuban music and a key piece in “Buena Vista Social Club”, selling over 8 million copies and awarded in 1998 with a Grammy for Best Traditional Tropical Latin Album.

American cellist prodigy Yo-Yo Ma recorded Sing Me Home with the Silk Road Ensemble, a musical collective with performers and composers from all over the world. The album features guest appearances by Grammy Award winning artists Toumani Diabaté, Gregory Porter, Lisa Fischer, Bill Frisell and many more.

Released in 2016, Sing Me Home was meant to open hearts, ears and minds during a time of tragedy and political turmoil. “All around the world, people constantly meet the unfamiliar through change,” Yo-Yo Ma said of the album. “Rapid or dramatic change can feel threatening, tempting us to build walls to defend against the unknown. At Silk Road we build bridges. In the face of change and difference, we find ways to integrate and synthesize, to forge relationships, and to create joy and meaning.”

Bringing together the cultural backgrounds of the musicians, Sing Me Home is a culturally conscious album, reflecting on modern globalisation and collaboration. From Macedonian folk to traditional music from Mali, and from Irish fiddle to Indian sitar: it all comes together wonderfully. Critics agreed, and the album went on to win the Grammy Award for Best World Music Album in 2017.

John Williams selbst dirigiert die New Yorker Philharmoniker. John Williams und Yo-Yo Ma lernten sich vor etwa vier Jahrzehnten kennen, als der Oscar-prämierte Komponist Dirigent des Boston Pops Orchestra wurde und Ma gerade seine Solokarriere begann. Ihre Zusammenarbeit erstreckt sich von gemeinsamen Konzerten, der Zusammenarbeit bei Filmmusiken bis hin zur Amtseinführung von Präsident Barack Obama im Jahr 2008 und ist von einer dauerhaften gegenseitigen Wertschätzung geprägt. Ma merkte an, dass die neue Version sogar "größere Änderungen, strukturelle Änderungen" enthält, mit einem Schlusssatz, der "ein einziger glorreicher Song ist". Ebenfalls auf "A Gathering of Friends" zu hören sind neue Arrangements, die John Williams für Yo-Yo Ma von drei Stücken aus seiner mit dem Oscar ausgezeichneten Filmmusik zu "Schindlers Liste" geschaffen hat sowie ein neues Arrangement für Cello und Streicher von "With Malice Toward None" aus der Filmmusik zu "Lincoln" von 2012. Das Album schließt mit einem Duo-Arrangement für Ma und den Gitarristen Pablo Sáinz-Villegas von "Prayer for Peace" aus dem Film "München" von 2005. Alle drei Filmmusiken sind Teile der langjährigen Partnerschaft von Williams mit Regisseur Steven Spielberg.Das andere Konzertstück auf "A Gathering of Friends" ist "Highwood's Ghost", ein Stück von John Williams für Cello und Orchester, das die Freundschaft zwischen Williams und Ma im Bezug zum legendären Komponisten und Dirigenten Leonard Bernstein dokumentiert. Williams komponierte das Werk zur Feier des 100-jährigen Jubiläums von Leonard Bernstein in Tanglewood im Sommer 2018 und schrieb eindringliche Solopartien für Ma und die Soloharfenistin des Boston Symphony Orchestra, Jessica Zhou, die auch bei dieser Aufnahme mit dem New York Philharmonic die Harfe spielt."A Gathering of Friends" ist das musikalische Highlight einer langjährigen Freundschaft und ein großartiges Album für alle Fans der Musik von John Williams und Yo Yo Ma.

It was produced by Roger Moutenot and recorded at House of David in Nashville The Album expands the guitar-based pop of its predecessor Electr-O-Pura to encompass a variety of other music genres, including Bossa Nova, Krautrock and Electronic Music. Most of the Songs on the Album deal with melancholy emotions and range from short and fragile Ballads to long and open-ended dissonance.
