Afterhours. is back with Ukrainian underground talent Silat Beksi. As expected, the 3-tracker appropriately named "Transend EP" displays a fine selection of stripped-down music prone to dancefloor introspection. 

The title track 'Transend' shows Silat's talent for creating steady, bare-boned grooves, filling the sonic space with menacing atmospheres, chopped vocals and bizarre modular squelches. Flipside's 'Monoliza' follows the same stable groove principle but applies quirky sound-design techniques reminiscent of the golden ages of microhouse for an added swing. 'Elephant Dream', the EP's closing track, swaps the four-by-four rhythms with breakbeat-infused constructions, adding just the right amount of sway for its deeply floating atmosphere.

Russian electro specialist Sinitsin invites us deep into a dystopian world at war on his new EP for LDI Records. His four originals come backed with standout remixes from Umwelt and Privacy. Andrey Sinitsin hails from Moscow and started out playing drums in rock bands. But his love of experimentation and exploration took him into the world of electronic music where he now cooks up his own fusions of IDM, techno and electro. So far it has come on labels like Ukonx Recordings, Urban Connections and Raw Russian. He opens up his LDI Records debut with 'Perfect Killing Machine' a raw, textural electro track with grizzly bass and edgy synth lines that convey a sense of heading into battle. 'PKD' is a slick and slippery electro tune with sci-fi melodies and deep space atmospherics. The turbulent bassline again conveys that sense of intergalactic warfare while 'Across the Desert Sands' layers up coruscated bass, neck-snapping snares and deep, gurgling acid lines into a dynamic track that bristles with pent-up tension. The always fierce and analogue-loving Umwelt is an electro mainstay who runs four of his own labels including Shelter and Rave Or Die. His take on 'Across The Desert Sands' has caustic synths and brutal snares making for a dark and intense electro trip powered by an unrelenting bassline. Privacy then steps up, having established himself on labels like Klakson and Lobster Theremin. His remix is a straight-up banger, with bouncy rubbery drum programming and zipping synths racing into the future backed by smooth and serene chords. Last of all comes 'Ruined', a five-minute emotional masterpiece with melancholy chords and downbeat drums run through with a warped acid line that brings a subtle sense of hope. This is a cinematic electro EP full of adventure and invention.

Submarine returns to the imprint with his ‘XIII’ EP. The Cologne-based artist is known for his ubiquitous dark rollers like Xertz, a track that regularly appears in Alix Perez set today since it’s 2018 release.

Following on from their trailblazing debut, the second offering INT02 from Interpret, which comes out on vinyl in October, finds Upercent presenting a four-track showcase. Based in València, the Spanish artist has continued to delight forward-thinking music connoisseurs with his daring brand of electronic futurism.

An enthusiastic attitude towards experimentation, coupled with extraordinary creative vision has made Upercent one of the more unique artists to emerge in recent years. Continuing to explore and expand his sonic palate, the Valencia resident now returns with the much anticipated ‘Sentit Opost’.

Kicking off 2023, Egregore Collective is back with a second vinyl release on the main label. This time, we’re diving deep, spiraling down in a sea of reverberated chords and soothing noises. For this new foray in the physical realm, appropriately titled “Tones & Echoes”, we called upon 5 specialists of the deepest forms of dub music.

Opening the record is Germany’s very own Another Channel. With regular appearances on respected labels of the genre such as Moonshine Recordings or Modern Hypnosis, he delivers a laid back dub ballad to kick things off smoothly.
Following up is Vienna based Mantsche, tagging along his mate Bishop with a deeper, stomping and more melancholic sounding riddim, that slowly builds up to a powerful stepper second drop that’s guaranteed to make you skank.

Closing the A side of the record is Masis, a previous collaborator of Another Channel on Moonshine Recordings. He takes us on a deeper tip with a dusty, minimalistic and lo-fi sounding dub punctuated by vocals chanting the name of the track as well as the final destination of this journey : “Mount Zion”.

On the other side, we have an all-Toulouse roster, starting with the enigmatic Stefan Dubs. Essential component of the illegal and underground scene here in Toulouse with the collective Folklore, he once again showcases his trademark meditative, saturated, and sometimes hypnotic aesthetic with another ode to forest raves in the maquis.

Rounding off the record is our own Stacktrace, taking a break from his dancehall bangers to go back to his roots and sign off on a highly progressive tune, sparkled with clicking shakers and drum rolls, and as always building into a very different second drop with a bassline melody that will stick to your head.

Year 2000 Problem has come through with four varied cuts for Lost City Archives. RNB inspired Jungle with a piece of heavyweight 140 breaks on the b2 to finish off the EP in a Lost City bonus beat style & fashion. Another debut EP from one to watch in 2023.

Precise snare drum samples from all around the globe transmitted via the MPC minister are throbbing. This is the “Members Of Warning Theme 2020”.



A darker and more disturbing approach comes from our family member Nadia D’Alò under her DALO alias. This track is more like - did you ever went to a dark and sweaty basement Electro party while in the middle of the floor at 04:20 a yellow purple sprinkled zebraseal named “ZAFRAM“ Mc Schnork wants to sell you liability insurance for a special discount? The 808 is bouncing, accents are placed carefully and harsh but also cute baby demon vocal effects are panning in between all 4 dimensions while the 303 hits you so hard that your legs are shaking? Then it gets really weird when this strange looking Otter from New York in a pink pony costume pops up and takes out the gear of his attache, offering you everything to pass the bat country safely? Well, it’s Philipp Otterbach's “Otter Space Mix” which put this special flavour on top.

Montreal’s eclectic producer CFCF (aka Mike Silver) follows 2019’s effusive corporate jungle opus Liquid Colours with a kaleidoscopic capital-E Electronica album that takes a range of styles from his earliest formative listening years (1997-2000) and throws them in a blender. Elements of jungle, house, UK garage, trance, pop and post-grunge are blended to form a glossy picture of restless youth in an
identity crisis: memoryland.

Inspired as much by Sonic Youth and Smashing Pumpkins as the Chemical Brothers and Basement Jaxx; as much by films like Millennium Mambo, Demonlover, Morvern Callar, Safe and Perfect Blue as late 90’s Prada — CFCF jumps across genres as a means of portraying a breadth of overlapping milieus and identities in this hyperactive Y2K period-piece that both explores and criticizes our own nostalgic impulses. From the opening intro’s announcement of arrival to the final credits, it’s an album as film as RPG, with the listener as its protagonist.

Opener “welcome.WAV” functions as a start-up sound file for the journey ahead: from “Life is Perfecto”, a propulsive breakbeat-dreampop hybrid, to a grotesquely-remixed ultra-French-house version of previously released single “Self Service”, and the recursive, metaphysical garage of “After the After”. Two guest vocalists lend their talents: Montreal neo-shoegaze icons No Joy, fresh off their own genre-defying Y2K exploration Motherhood, laconically lists off advice for aspiring fashion ingenues with bite in the alt-rock-IDM “Model Castings”, while Kero Kero Bonito’s Sarah Bonito sweetly delivers the penultimate “Heaven”, grunge-pop paean to the myth of Icarus.

In CFCF’s words:
“I was feeling fatigued by an overabundance of ‘calming’, productivity-oriented music, and wanted to explore something angsty, messy, and dark, while also applying a pop sheen. I see a loose narrative across the album: your early 20’s, a new city, new people, new temptations and new traps. Losing your sense of self to the whims of your surroundings and trends in music and fashion; the wrong people, and trying to dig yourself out of that hole. There’s a hope of moving forward that glimmers in the last quarter of the album, but it’s out of reach and seems to come at a price. And then the looking back on it later with perspective; or the looking forward to it before with anticipation. As a kid I couldn’t wait to be in my 20’s; in my 30’s it’s bittersweet to look back. That’s the core of memoryland: the gulf between the fantasy, the reality, and the memory, and how we live inside each of those at different points.”

Gladstone Deluxe is a New York based artist, producer and percussionist whose work takes form in recorded music, installations and live performances. Stone has performed as a soloist at the Kennedy Center, worked as a technical audio engineer, a software engineer and as an installation artist addressing concepts of rhythm, geometry, the black body and technology. “Spherical Intelligence” is Stone’s first appearance on vinyl. The crux of the record is three live performances recorded at his studio in West Harlem. These sprawling improvisations wove acoustic and electronic percussion, ambience and melody into forms that span the chasm from soundscape to advanced and intelligent club music. The stems were captured and then arranged into club-oriented tracks aimed directly at DJ and dancer. The result is an EP of cerebral, percussion-intensive music for the mind and body that reclaims and re-envisions the term “Intelligent Dance Music” from the Afrofuturist’s perspective.

Sun & Stars by Gossan and Pad Union, the debut vinyl release from Music Department record label, featuring four sumptuous and eclectic tracks.

Up first in the A1 spot is In 'Stars We Trust' by Gossan, an elegant progressive house number with a gorgeous aquatic build up which releases into a swell of subtly crafted drums, a warm and rumbling bass line and luxurious pads and synth refrains. The perfect opening track for a momentous debut release.

At the A2 spot is 'Solnce Zvuk' by Pad Union. A testament to the diversity of this EP, 'Solnce Zvuk' is a stylistically unique track which gives a sizable nod to 90s trip-hop and broken beat. With a groovy, syncopated break beat, a deep and potent sub bass line, not to mention an army of funky samples, 'Solnce Zvuk' will get any dancefloor moving!

Up first on the B side is 'Podsnezhniq' by Pad Union, a clever and interesting blend of break beat and 4/4 rhythms. Awash with melancholic pads, subtle synth riffs and an assortment of ethereal vocals all set to a driving bass line, 'Podsnezhniq' is a worthy contender on this formidable EP.

Finally, at B2 is 'Last Trip' by Gossan, a graceful progressive house track with a pulsing beat, gentle melodic phrases and a smooth, throbbing bass line. Add in some uplifting gaseous pads and a sprinkling of ingenuously designed vocal samples, and you’ve the perfect conclusion to a very memorable vinyl debut!

The fourth physical release on the Bristol based imprint sees Out of Sorts join forces with Hekkla for his debut vinyl EP, joined by rising Bristol star Manami with a spellbinding remix of the title-track.

After rising to prominence as a graduate of Martyn's revered mentoring programme, contributing a killer track to the 3-part It Was Always There compilation on 3024, the Eindhoven-based artist has been busy at work in the studio, putting together his debut vinyl release. Reverse Groove combines Hekkla’s own formative clubbing influences with the UK-infused sound that he feels most at home with, to form a set of percussive explorations which feel at home in both Bristol and Eindhoven.

On the A-side, Going In sets the tone with a slice of grime-adjacent UK inspired broken techno, followed up by the title-track Reverse Groove, a melodically-charged techno excursion which balances dancefloor functionality with the broken UK formula.

The B-side sees Hekkla’s broken club sound in full effect on Hardcore Memories, a dubbed-out roller which combines eerie synths with tough drums, whilst Manami morphs the title track into a peak-time trance-licked banger which is guaranteed to blow the lid off any function.

"No Control" is one of the albums that helped bridge the band"s more reckless earlier direction with their more focused (but just as pissed-off) "90s-era. The strength of such cuts as "Big Bang," "Automatic Man," the title track, and "I Want to Conquer the World." No Control is one of the bands best all-time albums and an archetypal blueprint for the genre.

For our 6th vinyl-only release, Kassian provides an addendum, an addition, a supplement - if you will - to his Leave Your Life EP. Here, he elaborates on ‘Spirit of Eden’, the dreamy B-side of last summer’s well-received EP.

On side A, we have the EP’s title track; a lush reimagining of the original, which lives up to its ‘Strings’ moniker, but still has enough percussive oomph to get feet moving on the dance floor.

On the B-side, we have ‘Strings of Eden (Garden Mix) ft: Miguel Atwood-Ferguson’. This one foregoes any backbeat and lays the strings on even heavier, utilizing the talents of Los Angeles’ Atwood-Ferguson, who is renowned for his kaleidoscopic string arrangements in the jazz, classical and experimental genres.

The EP closes out with a new offering: The gorgeous, airy, cinematic ‘Passing Clouds’.

Dana Kelley, aka DKMA, is a much revered writer, producer, remixer, performer and creative force whose releases have become timeless classics and Holy Grails amongst DJs, music heads and collectors alike. A true artist and innovator, his productions possess the unique ability to engage, transport, challenge and enthral as only next level musicians can.

Grounded in the deep, soulful US House sound of the mid '90's, his earliest releases can be found on Strictly Rhythm, before moving on to produce under his DKMA alias as well as releasing music as Callisto on Guidance. Although Dana sadly passed away in 2013, he left us with a remarkable body of work that has remained both exciting and relevant throughout the last 2 decades and beyond.

Boston Boy Vol.1 is the 1st in a series of compilations that focuses on Dana's visionary work as DKMA, during his most compelling and creative phase between 1997 and 2002. The compilations themselves are collated from an incredible & far reaching archive of over 20 of Dana's original DATs that have been generously shared with us by the Kelley Family. In the archive, some of Dana's most sought after & cherished works were uncovered, restored and meticulously assembled alongside previously unheard archival material.

The tracks themselves are bold, clever and inventive, characterised by a need for innovation. Passages of deep soulful house underpin more forward thinking electronics without ever losing dance floor appeal. Jazz solos sit effortlessly on top of gritty swinging rhythms, deep infectious b-lines, eerie textures and chord sequences are warm and effortlessly soulful yet with a sound design, sonic range, dynamism and a technical prowess that most could only dream of.

These compilations celebrate the life, vision and art of one of house music's most hallowed producers. Unique and essential, these collections pull together DKMA's most coveted works. For the exhibition “Flowers in 20th and 21st Century Art“, Eiko Ishibashi and Jim O‘Rourke had created the installation ”Lifetime of a Flower“ in which they set parameters but allowed the process itself to grow uncontrollably. Literally: in the garden of their Japanese house, they planted seeds and filmed the plant growing and thriving throughout the duration of the exhibition. Visitors were able to watch the stream in real time - and they heard a composition in which Ishibashi and O‘Rourke reflected the organic process in sound. The eponymous composition now available on LP, is an enigmatic and sophisticated layering of sounds, melodies and rhythms, noises from everyday life, all of which are repositories of associations, memories and expectations.

Elia y Elizabeth were a sister duo who in a brief yet dazzling career during 1972 and 1973 achieved great success in their native Colombia. Their concise and natural mix of styles sways between soft-pop with a touch of tropical-pastoral funk, singer-songwriter sweetened by the subtle perfume of Caribbean music and gentle psychedelia.

This 7-inch release features ‘Alegría’, one of the highlights from their back catalogue.

On the other side, the original much sort after Elia y Elizabeth song ‘Soy una nube’ is given the light of day.

On the flip Trilogy Inc, a new anonymous project from one of the UK’s most esteemed house duos of the 80s and 90s, explore their formative influences with ‘313’ and ‘Calling’. Two tracks destined for the darker recesses of the dancefloor, this is an unmissable package for club heads after serious underground heat.

Humanoid continues the journey on De:tuned and returns with a new 4 track EP of classic acid jams. Brian Dougans harks back to the fundamentals of late 80s and early 90s productions, resulting in a masterclass of 303 action from a pioneer. 'Sweet Acid Sound' delivers guaranteed peak-time party material, while elsewhere tracks like 'Roached' and 'Si-rak' see Brian fusing acid and techno to hypnotic and addictive effect. Eternal love and respect tot he originators Graham Massey, Gerald Simpson and Martin Price.

Kevin Foakes (Openmind, DJ Food, Ninja Tune) created all the graphic work. Mastered by Matt Colton at Metropolis and pressed on 180 gr vinyl. A separate digital release will also be available at the usual digital shops. Stay tuned!

Following on from the Bergisch-Brandenburgisches Quartett’s anarchic Live ’82 (BT095), Black Truffle continues its deep dive into the archives of legendary drummer/accordionist/photographer/composer/conceptual prankster Sven-Åke Johansson with Scheisse ’71. Recorded in November 1971 during the Berliner Jazztage at a heavy-hitting concert that also included the Spontaneous Music Ensemble and groups led by Peter Brötzmann, Manfred Schoof, and Masahiko Sato, Scheisse ’71 is the only document of a wild, otherwise unrecorded quintet featuring Johansson on drums, accordion and oboe d’amore, legendary free jazz vocalist Jeanne Lee, her husband Gunter Hampel on vibes, flute and bass clarinet, live electronics pioneer Michael Waisvisz on modified Putney (VCS 3) synthesizer, and the unknown Freddy Gosseye on electric bass. Part of a festival centred on giants of jazz like Duke Ellignton and Dizzy Gillespie, the radical performance shocked its audience, who can be heard heckling and yelling abuse at points, including the titular exclamation of ‘Scheiße!’ Clocking at just over half an hour and recorded in raw but detailed stereo by Johansson himself, the music burns with intensity while also making room for spacious passages and frequent dynamic movement. Beginning with Lee’s voice, Hampel on flute and Johansson on oboe d’amore in a bird-like game of call and response, the unexpected entry of Waisvisz’s tortured, squelching synth bursts prompts the first of many changes in energy and instrumentation, as Gosseye’s busy, roving bass enters and Johansson moves to the kit, his swinging cymbal work and juddering toms extending the approach of Sunny Murray or early Milford Graves. The presence of synthesizer, electric bass, and Lee’s highly amplified voice moves the quintet away from conventional free jazz textures, at times pushing into zones of abstract free sound reminiscent of what groups like MEV, AMM or Johansson’s MND were exploring in the same years. But the energy and joyful melodicism of the music keep it rooted in the tradition of American fire music and its European inheritors. Capable of changing gears in an instant from ferocious blow outs to fragile tapestries of chiming vibes and fizzing synth, the music finds space for Lee’s post-bop free scat (which integrates shrieks and howls just as a post-Ayler saxophonist might), Gosseye’s virtuosic bass runs (a rare attempt to apply the classic free jazz style of players like Alan Silva or Henry Grimes to the electric instrument), Johansson’s folkish accordion interjections, and even a sustained passage of unison bass clarinet and electric bass riffing in its second half. Special mention should be made of Waisvisz’s Putney performance, one of the earliest documents of this under-recorded instrument inventor and player, here playing a major role in giving the music its wildly exploratory, primordial air, his buzzing glissandi and bubbling filter sweeps at times howling like a distressed monkey. Arriving in an austerely stylish sleeve with beautiful black and white photographs by Johansson, Scheisse ’71 is an essential recording that adds yet another layer to our appreciation of this golden era of radical free music.

Growing up in Chicago during the early 80's, Mark - with the help of his older brother - started collecting records and DJing from his pre-teens. During high school he listened to WBMX radio mixes and was producing house tracks inside empty classrooms with his friends during lunch period. By the time Mark was a young adult having music everyone knew and liked was not good enough anymore and so he entered the endless world of searching and seeking music he had yet to discover and his music habits soon reached a level deemed as obsessive. To balance his spending habit, he found himself selling music to older peers, stores and DJs in order to afford more records for himself. This finally lead him into founding Mr. Peabody Records with Mike Cole a fellow fanatic, in 2004, aiming to become a world class resource for all genres of obscure music and indeed Mr Peabody Records became a destination point for many DJ's and Music Lovers. Sadly, the brick and mortar store closed shop in 2012. However we're lucky Mark still collects and continues to play music to dancers and clubbers around the world.

City Slangs Neuzugang Sprints, is die Post-Punk Sensation aus Dublin!

Die vierköpfige Band unter der Leitung von Karla Chubb hat ein erfolgreiches Jahr hinter sich: zwei ausverkaufte UK-Tourneen, ein Auftritt als Support von Liam Gallagher in Belfast, ein äußerst populäres Glastonbury-Set und eine Fülle von Presse- und Radiounterstützung in Großbritannien, darunter The Guardian, NME, DIY, Radio 1 und BBC6 Music. Um das Signing zu feiern, veröffentlicht City Slang die Single "Literary Mind" (produziert von Daniel Fox von Gilla Band) zusammen mit einer Live-Version und einem Live-Video, aufgenommen im legendären Dubliner Whelan's. Beides wird auf einer exklusiven 'Literary Mind' 7" in limitierter Auflage erhältlich sein, die im April erscheinen wird. Sprints gründeten sich 2019, als Karla, Gitarrist Colm O'Reilly und Schlagzeuger Jack Callan - die bereits unter einer langsam schwindenden früheren Formation zusammenspielten - bei einem Savages-Konzert die Erkenntnis hatten, dass sie auch die Musik spielen könnten, die sie eigentlich hören und lieben. Später im selben Jahr kam der Bassist Sam McCann hinzu und seitdem haben die Sprints kaum eine Atempause eingelegt. Das Signing bei City Slang war nur eines von vielen Highlights aus dem letzten Jahr.

Umse macht das Rap-Ding nicht erst seit gestern. Shows zwischen Flensburg und Luzern, youtube-Videos mit 300.000+ Clicks, 2 Alben und 2 EPs Alles dagewesen. Trotzdem ist für ihn die Zeit nicht stehen geblieben. Der Titel seines Debütalbums auf Jakarta Records ist Programm: "Wachstum".

Drei Jahre hat Umse an seinem neuen Album zusammen mit Hausproduzent Deckah geschraubt, aber "es brauch halt seine Zeit bis die Soundästehtik reift", denn etwas "zu verfassen was bleibt heißt eben ackern und schaffen". Das heißt nicht, dass Umse alles anders macht als in den vergangenen Jahren. Es gibt weiterhin "kein Strassendrama mit Handschusswaffen", kein Hipsterrap, keine Dubstepremixe, "keine Sandys und Mandys für den Chorus". Stattdessen besinnt sich Umse auf insgesamt 14 Tracks auf das was ihm "einfach so liegt: Nice Rhymes auf en Beat": zeitlose Musik ohne Redundanz, dafür gewohnt frisches, intelligentes Wortspiel - zugleich aber auch kein "90ties Revival sondern ein Style Überbleibsel".

Berlin’s Diego Krause launched the Unison Wax imprint in 2014 as a platform for his
own material, the Beste Modus co-founder has since gone on to release an impressive
back catalogue of music on the likes of Berg Audio, Apollonia, Pleasure Zone and
Sukhumvit amongst others, a testament to the quality embodied in his output. Here
though, Diego makes a welcome return to his own Unison Wax, again showcasing his
slick and percussive-led take on contemporary house.
Opening the package is ‘Bring The Noise’ with billowing chords, filter-swept vocal
murmurs and Diego’s signature swinging drums. ‘Phenomena’ follows and tips the
focus over to loosely flowing natural percussion, rounded low-end pulsations and
sporadic dub stabs to create a heads down, hypnotic groove.
‘The Company You Keep’ opens the B-Side, taking a more stripped-back approach with
shuffled, crunchy drums and murky bass stabs before ‘Lost Tribe’ completes the
package, fusing spellbinding percussive modulations and fluttering synth swells with a
sturdy, organic rhythm to keep things moving.

Joining us for the third release of Arpanet, Infinity Plus One, veteran producer coming to us from the London underworld.

His unique sound oscillates between a twisted, distorted techno with hypnotic vocals and breaky electro.

Reissue of this legendary album from Orchestra Baobab. Remastered from tapes.

Released in 1981, the legendary album "Mouhamadou Bamba" is the masterpiece of the Orchestra Baobab, which has dedicated more than ten years of existence. Under the direction of the percussionist saxophonist Issa Sissokho, of the irremovable guitarist Barthélémy Attiso the band records this album at the Golden Baobab studio in Dakar directed and produced by the young producer Ibrahima Sylla.
The Baobab symbolizes both the rooting in Senegalese traditional values and the ability of the tree to reach heights, the sound of the group is a perfect syncretism of Senegalese and Afro-Cuban imaginaries in which the montunos of electric guitars and vocal improvisations in wolof language marry subtly to the rhythms of cuban son and other boleros.

Welcome reissue/remaster of British Nirvana's surprise 1996 album, which revived songs written back in the Sixties but never released.

Taking its title from one of those songs, Orange And Blue has all the idiosyncrasies you'd expect from the minds of Patrick Lyons-Campbell and Alex Spyropoulos but done with a nineteen-nineties spin.

And its story of how it all came to be, as with all things Nirvana ? is not so straightforward and detailed inside the liner notes.

The continuing growth of Maik Krahl as a melodic improviser, bandleader, and composer is distinctly evident in this new release. In-Between Flow, Krahl’s third outing as leader, is a portrait of a young artist who has gone through many years of dedicated hard work, study, experimentation, and refinement in order to achieve this level of instrumental and artistic progress. Krahl belongs to a new generation of improvisers who have acquired a breadth of technical and theoretical facility, while not losing the spontaneity and rawness of this music we call jazz. As a bandleader, he chooses his colleagues wisely and for this date is joined on a few tracks by the visionary guitarist Kurt Rosenwinkel, whose brilliant playing adds a cherry on top of this already delicious line up.

The title In-Between Flow refers to ever evolving progression of our human condition. As in nature, the human spirit can expand and unfold, maturing to a new state where it may settle for a while until some new impulses inspires another transition. These transitions, sometimes subtle, sometimes abrupt; as well as the times of contentedness and serenity are the inspirations for this music.

The record opens up with an ode to the town Krahl calls home. Cologne 4 AM, begins with a haunting melody by Krahl’s soft yet powerful horn before settling into a perfect vehicle to display his command of melodic and motivic story telling. There is something about the time of 4 AM that seems to permeate literature and music, and this track will add to the canon of artistic references to this magical time where the night meets the morning.

Mr. Rosenwinkel joins the band for Slosetta, which is a great example of Krahl’s ability to craft a tune. As is to be expected, Rosenwinkel weaves through the changes with grace and mastery, obviously enjoying the communication with the rhythm section, who are undeniably inspired by his harmonic, rhythmic and melodic ingenuity.

Jakob Kühnemann, a Bandleader and composer is his own right, has been an in demand bassist on the German and European scene for several years, and his contribution to this record is proof of why that is. Although Krahl takes the lead on Drizzle Counter, in a great display of technical virtuosity, it is Kühneman who stands out on this track. It is not only in his improvisation, but more so in his poly rhythmic pulses dancing up from the deep and the harmonic insinuations in his accompaniment of Krahl’s solo that demonstrate his musical mastery.

Rosenwinkel joins again for No Claim Claim, a composition so balanced that I would not be surprised to hear other artists recording or performing it in the future. After Krahl’s melodically inventive statement, Rosenwinkel shifts the band to the next gear building the intensity towards the out head.

Constantin Krahmer has been Krahl´s piano player since his debut record, Decidophobia. His patience, ingenuity, and big ears make him a perfect accomplice to Krahl, and his sensitive yet powerful approach and accompaniment on Reconstruction of a Dream as well as his harmonic and melodic inventiveness on Vinaceous Clouds (where he plays Fender Rhodes) make it clear why he is an integral part of this unit.

Ms Ludgate is a funky composition with angular melody that is another feather in the cap of the band leader. Kurt Rosenwinkel is back, and seems more than willing to engage in some rhythmic dialogue with the spectacular young drummer on the date, Fabian Rösch. Throughout this entire record Rösch is subtly but strongly guiding the band, playing his role as a supportive and interactive proponent to the music. We will surely be hearing much more from this young man with such a refined sound and clear rhythmic conception.

Flawless Sunday, a perfect closing statement for this record. The melody is another great example of Krahl’s growth as a composer. The whole rhythm section really shines on Krahmer’s choruses, where the three colleagues push and dare each other rhythmically as well as harmonically before Krahl enters and brings the record to a close with his beautiful rich tone and melodic playing.

It is a great pleasure to hear the growth of a young artist with such dedication and vision. Hearing how Krahl and his band mates navigate through the vicissitudes of this music is an inspiration that can be mirrored in everyday life. A lesson in accepting the ever changing flow from one state to another. Growing, learning, and evolving into a new state, until the process begins anew. In-Between Flow.

In dem Moment, als die Nadel auf die neue A Giant Dog-Platte fällt, krümmt sich die eigene Vorstellung davon, wie eine A Giant Dog-Platte klingen soll, wie Raum und Zeit um ein Raumschiff, das mit Lichtgeschwindigkeit fliegt. Bite ist ein Konzeptalbum, in dem es um Charaktere geht, die sich in einer virtuellen Realität namens Avalonia bewegen und zugleich ist es das erste Album von A Giant Dog mit eigenen Songs seit Toy von 2017.

Sabrina Ellis, Andrew Cashen, Danny Blanchard, Graham Low und Andy Bauer - auf ihrem Höhepunkt als Musiker, fordern sie sich mit komplexeren Arrangements heraus und versetzten sich hinein in die Köpfe der Figuren, die dieses vermeintliche Paradies Avalonia bewohnen. "Wir mussten uns in den Hauptfiguren wiederfinden oder uns in die Hauptfiguren hineinversetzen. Wir entwickelten sie, lernten ihre Gedanken, Emotionen und Motivationen kennen und brachten diese dann in neun Songs zum Ausdruck", erklärt Ellis. Themen wie Sucht, Geschlechterfluidität, ethisches Leben in einer kapitalistischen Gesellschaft, körperliche Autonomie, Geiz, Trauer und Zustimmung sprudeln unter dem versprochenen Glück von Avalonia.

Dies wird in Songs wie "Different Than" deutlich, in dem Ellis singt: "My body can't explain the things my mind don't comprehend", als ob der gesellschaftliche Geschlechterdruck seine Protagonistin aus ihrer Haut herausquetscht. Die Songs auf Bite sind voller Bombast und erinnern abwechselnd an den raumfahrenden Opernrock des Electric Light Orchestra und die hohe Dramatik einer Ennio Morricone Filmmusik. Der erzählerische Bogen des Albums ist von epischer Tragweite, seine Charaktere stehen vor unmöglichen Unwahrscheinlichkeiten und sind mit dem sicheren Untergang konfrontiert, und ist so bequem vergleichbar mit der Sci-Fi-Grandezza von Thin Lizzy's Jailbreak wie auch mit der High Fantasy von Dio und Iron Maiden. Passenderweise sind A Giant Dog bis an die Zähne bewaffnet mit neuen Ideen zu dieser Erzählung gekommen, mit Synthesizern und Streichern, um das zu schaffen, was Ellis als orchestral beschreibt: symphonischen, futuristischen Punk. Um dies zu erreichen, verließen sie ihre Heimat Austin, Texas, in das La Cuve Studio in der Nähe von Angers, Frankreich.

Auf dem französischen Land legten A Giant Dog ihre Zukunftsvision vor einer ausgesprochen pastoralen Kulisse nieder. Auf den Wanderungen von Angers nach La Cuve, so Ellis, sahen sie "viele Dinge, und auch gar nichts. Schwäne auf dem Fluss. Romani, die in kleinen Anhängern leben, mit einer Hütte für ihren Hund an der Seite Ein Jongleur auf einem Einrad - ich verarsche dich nicht. Wir dachten, wir dürften nach dieser Reise nicht mehr nach Frankreich zurück, um ehrlich zu sein", fährt sie fort. "Fünf laute, stampfende, klatschende, randalierende Amerikaner, die im November 2022 drei Wochen lang durch die Straßen von Angers gelaufen sind." In dem Moment, als die Nadel auf die neue A Giant Dog-Platte fällt, krümmt sich die eigene Vorstellung davon, wie eine A Giant Dog-Platte klingen soll, wie Raum und Zeit um ein Raumschiff, das mit Lichtgeschwindigkeit fliegt. Bite ist ein Konzeptalbum, in dem es um Charaktere geht, die sich in einer virtuellen Realität namens Avalonia bewegen und zugleich ist es das erste Album von A Giant Dog mit eigenen Songs seit Toy von 2017.

Sabrina Ellis, Andrew Cashen, Danny Blanchard, Graham Low und Andy Bauer - auf ihrem Höhepunkt als Musiker, fordern sie sich mit komplexeren Arrangements heraus und versetzten sich hinein in die Köpfe der Figuren, die dieses vermeintliche Paradies Avalonia bewohnen. "Wir mussten uns in den Hauptfiguren wiederfinden oder uns in die Hauptfiguren hineinversetzen. Wir entwickelten sie, lernten ihre Gedanken, Emotionen und Motivationen kennen und brachten diese dann in neun Songs zum Ausdruck", erklärt Ellis. Themen wie Sucht, Geschlechterfluidität, ethisches Leben in einer kapitalistischen Gesellschaft, körperliche Autonomie, Geiz, Trauer und Zustimmung sprudeln unter dem versprochenen Glück von Avalonia.

Dies wird in Songs wie "Different Than" deutlich, in dem Ellis singt: "My body can't explain the things my mind don't comprehend", als ob der gesellschaftliche Geschlechterdruck seine Protagonistin aus ihrer Haut herausquetscht. Die Songs auf Bite sind voller Bombast und erinnern abwechselnd an den raumfahrenden Opernrock des Electric Light Orchestra und die hohe Dramatik einer Ennio Morricone Filmmusik. Der erzählerische Bogen des Albums ist von epischer Tragweite, seine Charaktere stehen vor unmöglichen Unwahrscheinlichkeiten und sind mit dem sicheren Untergang konfrontiert, und ist so bequem vergleichbar mit der Sci-Fi-Grandezza von Thin Lizzy's Jailbreak wie auch mit der High Fantasy von Dio und Iron Maiden. Passenderweise sind A Giant Dog bis an die Zähne bewaffnet mit neuen Ideen zu dieser Erzählung gekommen, mit Synthesizern und Streichern, um das zu schaffen, was Ellis als orchestral beschreibt: symphonischen, futuristischen Punk. Um dies zu erreichen, verließen sie ihre Heimat Austin, Texas, in das La Cuve Studio in der Nähe von Angers, Frankreich.

Auf dem französischen Land legten A Giant Dog ihre Zukunftsvision vor einer ausgesprochen pastoralen Kulisse nieder. Auf den Wanderungen von Angers nach La Cuve, so Ellis, sahen sie "viele Dinge, und auch gar nichts. Schwäne auf dem Fluss. Romani, die in kleinen Anhängern leben, mit einer Hütte für ihren Hund an der Seite Ein Jongleur auf einem Einrad - ich verarsche dich nicht. Wir dachten, wir dürften nach dieser Reise nicht mehr nach Frankreich zurück, um ehrlich zu sein", fährt sie fort. "Fünf laute, stampfende, klatschende, randalierende Amerikaner, die im November 2022 drei Wochen lang durch die Straßen von Angers gelaufen sind." Tempo Lunare, syncrétique and profound is the new Ep by Adiel. Son of a nocturnal concept, made of layers of sound, that hide but at the same time reveals multiple sonorities, where music is made of hush in between sounds, where every beat, melody or percussion weaves a relation of interdependence.
Adiel’ s lunar world, mystic and complex, shows us her most intimate and interior sound, giving us the key to decrypt what we still did not know about her. The perception of an empty space, as a compression that expandes into a compulsive beat. Rituale is such an abrasive track with a nocturnal 909 pulse. The rhythmic structure wraps itself accompanied by tribal percussions. At the fourth minute and zero four the kick stops to make the melody breath reminding the sound of the voice of a siren. Synth will no longer be alone when beat comes back with all its percussions and woods sounds. Seems to feel the Danza Tirbale ’s tribal dance, where dozen of hands repercuss ringing out on drums.

Long percussive textures make their way to the 909 kick in fourth fourths. It is characterized by a downbeat bass, dirty, acid, as a reverse feeling. Rhythmics play with ascending and descanting synth, they come and go parallel to the sonic base of the track and the groove is continouss and pressing until it stops to reveal the pervasive melody expanding in the space, leaving us in the hands of sidereal time.

BLU

Ecstatic, introflex and ancestral. The track Blu recalls coral african melodies, as an ambient sacrality and as sandy rumors,where gong gives us the beat and the sonic space of it. The vocal over layers echoes into our ears suggesting us something about the profound. A dark ambient track where the gong melts with our heart beat, thinnering elements of the sonic clutch into an hypnagogic trance dance where time seems to be frozen into an ascetic condition.

Here's something to get excited about: a cracking new cut from Detroit deep house legend Alton Miller, backed with a 'Sound Signature' translation from the equally revered Theo Parrish. Miller's version of "Bring Me Down", is something of a treat: a sparkling, starry deep house epic that's blessed with immaculate vocals from soul chanteuse Maurissa Rose. Parrish's translation is equally as stretched out and similarly enjoyable, but is far looser and dustier in feel, with warmer bass and beats that naturally tend towards the jazzier. It's naturally more in keeping with Parrish's work than Miller's, but retains enough of the latter's touches to be counted as a fine remix.

Yogi literally stumbled across Charles on social media and called Roual up right away to make him aware of this prolific producer’s talent, and to explore the possibilities of a vehicle to drop Charles’ incredible, Afro, deep, soulful music on the street. Roual was in agreement with Yogi after viewing Charles’ numerous online videos, all of which feature Charles’ urban freestyle street dancing friends and his skater lovin’ crew too. Is it too early to compare Brother Charles’ deepness to the likes of Kerri Chandler, Larry Heard, Roland Clark, or Osunlade? We think not, and we believe that Toronto is ‘bout to be put back on the musical map, where it belongs.

On Careful!, they're not reimagining their sound so much as testing its limits. If you want to, you can hear echoes of David Bowie's Low in the snapping rhythm and gray-sky synths of "Tele," but you can also hear a bit of Auto-Pain in the nailed-in, stippling lines being spit out by Bhatti's drum programming and McBride's synthesizer.

"Fame" seems to stumble together and nearly fall apart, the dialed-up noise making the beat feel maniacal and a little invincible, the whole thing a series of short, snipped, autonomous gestures that are by now Deeper's trademark. "Build a Bridge" pushes in the opposite direction, using a prickly guitar line to launch into big, smeary art-pop, its emotional palette clear, well-defined, and easy to latch onto.

Rebellion ist aktuell in aller Munde, aber DYMNA LOTVA haben dafür gewichtige persönliche Gründe: Das Duo musste aus seinem Heimatland Belarus aufgrund politischer Verfolgung fliehen. Die Kunst der Metal-Band wird von der Lukaschenka-Diktatur aktuell zensiert und unterdrückt. Doch auch auf ihrem dritten Album, "The Land under the Black Wings: Blood" singen DYMNA LOTVA weiterhin von Trauer und Schmerz. Dabei haben die Belarussen hörbar ihren markanten Stil dynamisch weiterentwickelt. Über einem soliden Black Metal Fundament, das auch Bausteine aus dem Doom und traditioneller Musik enthält, baut das Duo mit Hilfe von melancholischen, eindringlichen Melodien emotionalere und gewaltigere musikalische Strukturen auf. Die Texte von DYMNA LOTVA basieren auf wahren Geschichten aus ihrer Heimat. Diese stammen aus Berichten voller Leid, die das Duo in historischen Archiven und in der Folklore findet - während in ihrem Land an jedem Tag neue Schreckenstaten hinzukommen. Komponist und Multiinstrumentalist Jauhien Charkasau sowie Sängerin Katsiaryna "Nokt Aeon" Mankevich datieren die Gründung von DYMNA LOTVA präzise auf den 8. November 2015. Am diesen Tag entzündete die Nachricht, dass die belarussische Schriftstellerin Swetlana Alexandrowna Alexijewitsch den Literaturnobelpreis erhalten hat, das musikalische Feuer der Band. Noch am gleichen Tag schuf das Duo seinen ersten Song, der von der Nuklearkatastrophe von Tschernobyl inspiriert wurde. Dieser erschien im Jahr 2016 als Single unter dem Titel ("A Solitary Human Voice"). DYMNA LOTVAs erstes Album "The Land under the Black Wings: Swamp" kam noch im gleichen Jahr heraus. Das Debüt stellt auch den ersten Teil einer konzeptionellen Trilogie über Belarus dar. Mit dem Nachfolger, "Wormwood" der nicht zur geplanten Album-Trilogie zählt, kehren DYMNA LOTVA im Jahr 2017 zum Thema Tschernobyl zurück. Nach den gefälschten Wahlen im Jahr 2020 unterstützte DYMNA LOTVA offen die Proteste gegen den Diktator Lukaschenka. Nach einem politisch motivierten Prozess gegen den Metal-Sänger Lesley Knife, der auch als Gast auf der Single 'To Freedom' zu hören ist, werden alle geplanten Konzerte von DYMNA LOTVA offiziell verboten und die Live-Besetzung der Band ist zur Auflösung gezwungen. Sängerin Nokt Aeon kann ihrer politisch motivierten Verhaftung nur durch Flucht außer Landes entgehen. Das Duo will sich in der Ukraine treffen, als der russische Überfall den Plan zunichte macht. Nach zwei Wochen schweren Bombardements durch Russland und harten Kämpfen um Irpin gelingt Nokt Aeon die Flucht aus der Stadt. Beide Musiker finden schließlich Aufnahme in Polen. Für DYMNA LOTVA ist die Veröffentlichung von "The Land under the Black Wings: Blood" daher auch ein Akt des Widerstands. Ihre Musik kann auf mehr als eine Weise gehört werden: Es handelt sich zunächst, nur für sich genommen, um ein wundervoll melancholisches, zeitgenössisches Metal-Album auf der dunklen Seite des Genres; mit einem hörbar belarussischen Einschlag. Doch aus einer erweiterten künstlerischen Perspektive betrachtet, ist DYMNA LOTVAs "The Land under the Black Wings": Blood" ein klagender, wütender Schrei nach Freiheit und Gerechtigkeit!
