Men of North Country from Tel Aviv follow up their late 2023 digital single and Keith Richards cover "Hate It When You Leave" with a rousing vinyl version of Carl Carlton's Northern Soul floorfiller "I Can Feel It". This 7inch release is backed by a special, as yet unreleased version of the MONC classic "Ravens".

The third release on The Magic Movement features the label's A&R Noema from Berlin. "Antipodes" starts off with a funky bass-line, trippy bells and syncopated claps which set an psychedelic Afro vibe from the very beginning. Mystical noises increase this mood, till a hypnotising Moog hook calls for action. And at the latest when the sub bass finally drops in, the scenery transforms into an ecstatic ritual dance.

On the flipside you'll find Aunti Flo's remix with a a more dubby feel of the title track. A spheric choir pad unfolds over strong Afro percussions, while a rattle snake like shaker excitedly rises and falls.
"Late at Night" feels like a nocturnal walk through streets in twilight.


The Groove, which sounds like odd clockwork, gets occasionally enhanced by more interesting percussion sounds. The melodies, played by a Marimba-like instrument and filtered synth, is accompanied by a warm pad and a disco bassline, whilst a female voice moans in the back.

Micah is a special one. His playing has a restlessly inventive and futuristic tilt while simultaneously remaining deeply rooted in the history of the music – all delivered with curiosity, patience, humor and care. I make a point to hear him as often as I can, as he always inspires and is constantly evolving. Micah is one of the most exciting musicians of his generation. One who has a unique style as well as all the tools needed to make a major contribution to the world of jazz piano.

"When we decided to produce Micah Thomas, the project involved a recording of five titles only. In the first part of an approximately one hour session, Micah beautifully played first takes of up to ten titles, with fantastic artistic fervor and great freshness. Taken by surprise, joy and admiration, we decided on the spur of the moment to change our initial plans, so we could capture the magic of that


session for a little longer. Here is the result, a 12 titles double vinyl that takes you back to October 31st, 2020 at Big Orange Sheep studio in Brooklyn, NY. Twelve songs when we encountered the art of Micah Thomas as a solo pianist for the first time."

Richard Lamb’s second and (presumably) final release under this moniker is a bit of a special one. Lamb starts off with ‘Salt Lick’. A track with beautiful, lush, sunny sounds that lure you into an unexpected world of electro, heavy bass and more dance orientated tracks like ‘A Life In Harmony’.

Following up his first EP ‘Automatic Tango’ on his own Montreal based Temple imprint, there’s still hints of early Moog greasiness but overall it’s a more decisive production compared to the previous one. Intricately layered percussion mixed together with dreamy pads take you on a journey to a hidden Utopia where tight arrangements and tribal-esque rhythms dictate the pace. Once more we are shown how versatile Lamb’s productions are and how he juggles genres freely, ranging from dub to electronica, experimental, idm and techno.

The second side of this EP features two remixes by non other than Norwegian DJ and producer DJ Sotofett. A heavyweight in the electronic music scene who needs little introduction takes on the EP’s title track ‘A Life In Harmony’ and turns it into two electro-acid pieces ready to tear up any dance floor, or anything else for that matter. Surrender to the acid and indulge in these masterful tracks.

Total oddball production that has left a terrifying wake of mystery throughout many online digger circles which eventually even led to a mini documentary explaining the origin of the crown jewel “Dirty Cowboy” sound which is featured in this release along with another one of Richard Plasko’s tripped out involuntary lo-fi excursions on the B-side. Combining the surrealist punk ethos of Scotch Rolex and the bass heavy psychedelia of Shackleton, Death by Tickling is ten tracks full of wild and unpredictable changes, incorporating odd time signatures, cosmic synth freak outs and dubbed out space vibrations. At times the album lulls the listener into a zoned out trance whilst at other times it startles with its ferocity, Death by Tickling has the whole range in its Helter Skelter approach.

Produced in their studio in Berlin, both artists’ sonic signatures can be unmistakeably recognised on this album. Scotch Rolex is best known for his work with Kampala based artists MC Yallah and DUMA's Lord Spikeheart. With releases on Nyege Nyege’s Hakuna Kulala label, Rolex draws on dancehall, trap, Japanese traditional music, gabber, grindcore, Gqom, and Kuduro to unique and exciting effect. The same energy permeates this new release, but with a new elements of shamanism and deconstructed rhythms.

Meanwhile, the founder of Skull Disco, Shackleton, has been carving out his own brand of esoteric ritual trance music for the best part of two decades on labels such as Honest Jon’s, Hot Flush and Perlon. This record sees him taking Rolex’s raw beats and devil may care trickery and exploding it through a dub effect rack into outer space.

It is an hour of out-there music which will appeal to those who like it challenging and adventurous. At the same time, you could get the impression that there is even a savage humour or a cosmic joke underlying the whole endeavour, hence the title, Death by Tickling. To round off the package, the brilliant artwork is courtesy of Zeke Clough who can always be depended on to bring the unexpected.

An uncompromising return is coming and we, as a label, are extremely proud to host it on our frequencies: the internationally known Russian duo SCSI-9 is back with "Squares And Circles" an 8 track album enclosed in a double vinyl. The 8th record on our elecTronic catalogue is an abstract, geometric but above all analog journey through Anton & Maxim's souls; an identifying concrete work of research which displays the "two-dimensional & mathematical" approach of their connected minds. The whole LP is musically pervaded by all the sound investigations they made throughout the production period and tells us of all their inner perfectionism and willing to strive for a sense, a meaning to give to a solid composition such as this one. Coming to the raw music itself, they succeed in a complex process of making simple what's extremely heterogeneous, embodying the psychological theory of the thought against the speech: it's easier to talk than to think. Well, they talk perfectly through their music which is really difficult to separate into tracks, being such a climax of organic emotions, flowing from the opening "No Rush" with its tight rhythmics and spacey atmospheres to the more low-key and harmonious approach of "You & Me"; rolling on to the firmest and energetic constancy of side B starting with "Get Some Lfo" and slowing down again with the meekest, warm, far-out sensations of "Stairs and Stars": this track is one of SCSI-9's watermarks on the album and it's a drive through an ascendant field of harmonies, peaking at its zenith and oscillating back to a state of peace, letting the last beat taking over. Uncrating the 2nd vinyl we access to the substantial envelope of "Pha In The Hau" and "Systematic", a track that instantly takes us to an unknown region between the moon, Chicago and Ivory Coast, dancing along to some sort of Zaouli tribe percussions. D side brings the perspective to the edge of SCSI-9's universe giving us an even closer look to the landscape they've created with this treasure album. "303 Views" is the last wind storm on the Lake Michigan, touching all the musical influences that come from that specific area of planet Earth while the last blow "Onigiri" is a soft lysergic guided tour on their very own trigonometric asteroid, with no fear of falling off it. "Squares And Circles" is here and is a determined, hard-lined and intransigent statement of what Anton and Maxim want to communicate us with their vibrations, no matter if you don't get the whole point, just plunge into the these waters.

The emerging songwriter Michael Rea under the moniker of Symbol Soup releases his debut album Slow Puncture via Sad Club. Tender and conversational, Symbol Soup has crafted a wonderfully candid and approachable debut album melding indie rock with folk and country elements intertwined.Seeing his hometown Milton Keynes through the lens of a small American town, Rea’s tracks portray a Pacific Northwest fantasy ideal.

Written during the summer of 2021, Michael notes: “A ‘Slow Puncture’ is the perfect example of a problem that gets thought about every day and left unfixed. A tyre with a slow puncture needs constant effort and maintenance just to keep moving, but usually doesn’t get fixed until it’s too late.” Holding up the mirror to himself, weaving through ‘Slow Puncture’ is the theme of living with your own limitations or flaws. As Rea states, this is done so “ideally through acceptance, other times through pure laziness.” This metaphor carries through to the process of growing older, with a gradual loss of substance as time passes.

Setting the tone for the enchanting and introspective journey, ‘Slow Puncture’ opens with “I’m a cloud that’s procrastinating raining”. For fans of Hovvdy, Alex G and Soccer Mommy.

Formed in November of 1996 deep within a basement bedroom somewhere between the corn fields and strip malls of Southern Illinois, The Conformists began as four teenagers with a desire to create Ugly Rock Music. Eventually, they grew up and now dabble in moments which could even be described as quite beautiful and melodic. Elsewhere, elements of insistent repetition with an initial appearance of stasis reveal — with multiple listens — intricate details under the surface.

Brownswood Recordings releases the 7th edition of their Future Bubblers Compilation. An expansion of Gilles Peterson's network supported by Arts Council England, the ongoing talent discovery and artist development scheme focuses on developing unsigned talent and building audiences for new left-field music. With support from PRS Foundation as Talent Development Partners, the professional recording, manufacturing and physical release of Future Bubblers 7.0 is made possible. Unlike any other initiatives within music, the compilation acts as a springboard for the musician's careers, with the cooperative model providing direct revenue to the artists by a share of the profits, resulting in a sustainable income to work from. Curated by Xavier Daive, aka Funky Bompa, the compilation unveils rare '60s and '70s gems, providing a glimpse into a transformative period following the fall of the Trujillo regime.

With over 20 years in the Dominican Republic, Xavier Daive meticulously sources original 45s, offering a snapshot of merengue's evolution during a creatively charged era post-Trujillo. The genre's roots, dating back to the 19th-century Dominican Republic, predate salsa, establishing its unique identity with the introduction of accordions via German trade ships. The genre's classic típico configuration emerged in the mid-'60s, leaving a lasting impact on its evolution.

Focused on the explosive '60s and '70s merengue típico scene, influenced by genre pioneers like “Tatico” Henríquez and Trio Reynoso, the compilation showcases technical finesse and high-speed rhythms. Tracks like Rafaelito Román’s "Que Mala Suerte" embody the genre's infectious energy. Aristides Ramírez’s "Los Lanbones" adds a touch of humor, cautioning against pub freeloaders. The Hammond organ was first manufactured in 1935. In 1954, the now famous Hammond B3 model was introduced with additional harmonic percussion feature. When the company went out of business in 1985, around two million of various models of the Hammond organ have been produced.

The Hammond B3 was originally marketed to churches as a lower-cost alternative to the wind-driven pipe organ. It quickly became popular with professional jazz musicians in organ trios. Jimmy Smith's use of the Hammond B3 inspired a generation of organ players, and its use became more widespread in the 1960s and 1970s in rhythm and blues, rock, reggae, and progressive rock.

Rich and steppy electronics from Stefan Schwander (aka Harmonious Thelonious) - seemingly looking at back at his own Rephlexion in a mirror of inspiration. He's got it spot on. The whole EP was made exclusively using the beautiful synthesis of Elektron's hallowed 'Monomachine'.

This group of Ole Miss grads feature Jim Weatherly (writer of “Midnight Train to Georgia”) and is often likened to the Association for their soft, trippy sound. “Everything about this well-crafted fusion of sunshine pop and gentle psychedelia is geared towards accenting all things melodic” - Grahame Bent (Record Collector) Reissued on LP for the first time! London noise-rock quartet USA Nails have announced their upcoming album Feel Worse’, out March 22nd 2024. It’s the first album on their new label One Little Independent Records (home to anarcho-punk bands both old and new; Crass, Bad Breeding and more). The band have forged a considerable reputation since their formation in 2013 from their South London base, comprising of members of Kong, Future Of The Left, Blacklisters, Death Pedals and Silent Front.

‘Feel Worse’ explores schadenfreude; the pleasure derived from another person’s misfortune. With this, they use new material to attack austerity and UK authoritarianism, consumer culture (particularly the consumption of quick fix reality TV and hyper-capitalist agendas), youth culture and bullying, and more. They do so with their intense and unmistakable brand of abrasive, chaotic post-hardcore. There’s a raw and uncompromising energy to USA Nails, and ‘Feel Worse’ is their most powerful and vital album to date.

Ende der Siebziger begannen Annette "Bärchen" Simons und eine Gruppe Teenager-"Milchbubis", Hannover unsicher zu machen. Von da an war die Band mit ihren humorvoll-subversiven Texten breitflächig vertreten: Von Jugendzentren, Underground-Tapes und nischigen Fanzines über die Bravo bis ins BRD-Fernsehen sowie auf den großen Bühnen des Landes - viele waren dem Bärchen-Charme verfallen. Nach einer LP und einer EP folgte 1983 mit der Label- auch die Bandauflösung und die Gruppe verschwand vorerst von der Bildfläche. 2021 meldeten sich Bächen und die Milchbubis dann mit der Werkschau Endlich Komplett Betrunken zurück. Es folgten Auftritt-Anfragen kleinerer Punk-Festivals: Hätte die Band nicht Lust, nach all der Zeit mal wieder live aufzutreten? Und wie sie es hatte! Annette Simons, die zu Gründungszeiten "nur" Sängerin war, hat sich ganz in Punk-Manier das Gitarrenspielen beigebracht. Auch Kai Nungesser bleibt an Bass und Gesang erhalten. Neuzugang ist der ehemalige Rotzkotz-Schlagzeuger Markus Joseph. Bärchen und die Milchbubis kitzeln die Wut vom ernsten Punk-Habitus am verkrampften Bierbauch und vertonen das unfreiwillige Lachen, das dabei rauskommt. Entstanden ist so also ein Album, das den Punk ins Jahr 2024

We have been really liking what we've heard from the Dolphin label out if the US of late. Now we get a taster of an upcoming album from Blaque Dynamite with a second single from it. Beka Gochiashvili features on keyboards and synthesizers throughout the cut. The Stefan Ringer remix is a wet and funky mix of jazz, house and experimental sound. It has a sleazy sense of vocal naughtiness to it with shuffling broken beats and rich layers of percussion. The original is an organic and loose-limbed deep house vibe and Ben Hixon brings a little more edgy tech to the drums.

Carthago: Rare Tunisian Disco Including Unreleased Instrumentals And Eight Page Booklet When we first decided to start Habibi Funk, a label dedicated to re-releasing "funky" Arabic music from the 1960s to 1980s, a band called Dalton was the first release we worked on. Dalton was a band from the Tunisian capital of Tunis and they played a unique mix of soul & funk with an Arabic DNA. We licensed the release from the band's composer Fawzi Chekili, and when we spoke to him on the phone in preparation of the release he mentioned another band he was part of, called Carthago. Our work with Habibi Funk is like a big treasure hunt. There are too many great bands that fully vanished into obscurity and didn't leave any traces in the digital sphere yet. We are so used to the internet providing all informations we might be looking for, but Carthago was one of those bands where the internet largely failed to provide any infos despite the fact that Carthago created some incredible music in the form of an highly infectious Tunisian take on disco music. Luckily most of the members of the 1970s musical scene of Tunis are still around to tell their story.

Carthago was founded in the late 1970s as a fusion of Dalton and a second band called Marhaba Band. Both bands frequently played at hotels and night clubs in Tunis and Sousse. They had similar musical influences and despite the fact that they were competition for the most part, they came up with the idea to join forces for a new band. Musically Carthago kept on walking on the musical path of Dalton and Marhaba but incorporated disco music, a new style that was making its way to North Africa from Europe and North America. The band had quite some success on local radio and played a number of big shows with thousands of people showing up. The band's concerts were a mixture of their own compositions as well as cover versions of the hits of the time from Stevie Wonder to Chicago. At the end of the 70s they went to Paris to record their only, self titled album. For our reissue we picked out two of our favorite tracks: "Hanen" and the outstanding disco version of the Dalton track "Alech" which has proved to work on every dance floor we played over the last two years.

When I came to Tunis for the first time after the Dalton reissue I met Fawzi in person. He still lives in Tunis and still works as a full time musician though his focus has shifted more towards Jazz over the years. Luckily he did not only keep a spotless copy of the Carthago album but he also kept the master tape of the instrumental versions of the album which to this day were unreleased. Being able to add exclusive content to a reissue is something that is rare and we feel highly privileged to be able to do so. Futher more we are so happy that we will be able to add something new to the bands legacy not only musically but also visually: One day I realized that most of the releases from Tunisia I liked, be it from Dalton, Carthago or Marhaba Band had the same photographer credit.Hassen Turki started taking photos at a young age and when he was 18 he started going to the gigs of the bands of the time that were playing in the Marhaba Hotel which was managed by his father at the time. He became friends with the bands and ended up being the person to be asked when it came to shooting the photos for the covers of the records. After some research I managed to get in touch with Hassen and met him in his hometown Sousse. Luckily he kept most of the negatives of the photos he took so we're more than happy to be able to share these unseen photos with whoever is interested.

Daydream Utopia is an album of atmospheric downtempo electronica made to be played in two sessions on an old fashioned vinyl disc.

As the title suggests it's a soundtrack for a day dream or maybe an inner or outer space exploration.

Rare as hen's teeth digital dancehall from out of late 80s/early 90s NYC, via Cooly aka Koolindian aka Super Cat's cousin Andrew Maragh, originally released on his own Mad Indian Records - reissued here for Death Is Not The End sub-label 333.

Maragh sang in church choirs and on soundsystems in Jamaica before moving to New York in the 1980s where he quickly became involved on the underground music circuit, taking inspiration from his cousin the legendary Super Cat. "Freedom" was penned while he was incarcerated, and details the unfairness of the judicial system at that time, alongside the heartfelt need to "hustle everyday to make ends meet, whether that's picking up scrap metal or cutting lawns or voicing dubplates, whatever you do to make a dollar", says Maragh.

Having bought an Ampex tape in Manhattan, Maragh headed over to the legendary Philip Smart's HC&F studio on Long Island with the intention of laying down his lyrics on the version to Dennis Brown's "Children of Israel". After hearing the song however, Smart went ahead and built this one-away "Freedom" rhythm on the spot. The track was then carried to Count Shelly's Super Power Records where it was then pressed & distributed as the first and only release on the Mad Indian label around the turn of 1989/1990.

After 7 studio albums with both Secretly Canadian and Western Vinyl Records over the last 20+ years, Early Day Miners have returned with their latest offering, and their first with Solid Brass Records, titled Outside Lies Magic. Early Day Miners' surroundings have always been reflected in their sound. Their early compositions, while in Bloomington, IN, mirrored the seemingly inescapable expanse of the Midwest. Now based in New Orleans their sound has yielded a subtle but correlative shift in the band. Outside Lies Magic offers an audible lightness. Most notably Dan Burton’s voice, once hushed and at times hesitant, is now full-bodied and sure; his heart, once tenuously carried on his sleeve, is now firmly in his throat. And though this might be the leanest the lineup has been, they are focused and warm, exuding the maximalism of their new home with nuance and a laissez-faire approach. Vinnie Paz and Stoupe are back with their tenth Jedi Mind Tricks studio album. Guest features include ILL BILL, Recognize Ali, Yes Alexander, CRIMEAPPLE, DJ 7L (of CZARFACE) and more. Vinne continues to deliver raw sounds over Stoupe production while bringing along some old friends as well as some of the new voices making noise in Hip Hop.

Jimi Tenor's new single on Philophon was created at the label's own Joy Sound Studios in Kumasi/Ghana. Here he encountered the lively music scene that the city, once the birthplace of highlife, has to offer.

With the title track My Mind, Jimi brings one of his classics from the 90s to new life. It goes without saying that he takes the highlife beat as his basis here.

With Love Is The Language he has created another hymn to the mystery of love, the exploration of which runs like a common thread through his now extensive work.

The Madlib Invazion Music Library Series was created by Madlib and Egon to give their creative friends a chance to stretch out and indulge in whatever type of music they wanted. This music was created for easy, one-stop clearance in film and television synchronization usage and for sampling. You can also enjoy these albums in the way that many do with the best of the best vintage library catalogs – listen, ponder, repeat.

Elusive dutch DJ and producer, nthng, announces his second album 'Hypnotherapy'. Previously putting out records on his own label Transatlantic, plus the likes of Delsin, Mork, this thoughtful long play spans dub techno, hazy ambient and mind-bending trance, traversing through different moods.

Float away with bright and airy opener, '50 Flower'. Spoken word samples intercept the ambience, bringing the listener down from the clouds. A2's 'I Just Am' takes the EP into dub techno dance floor territory with bolshy, rattling percussion and assertive vocals. 'Heitt' is a pacy slice of machine music for the wee hours, before drifting back to softness with barely-there 'Beautiful Love'. 'Wave Return' injects a dose of wigged out energy, slowly evolving from drawn out dub into an effervescent jam. 'Spirit of Ecstasy' rolls gently - a prime slice of chunky, driving electronica. nthng's title track, 'Hypnotherapy', see's the producer return to the ambient fringes of moody techno, barely-there kicks, and shimmering pads. Rounding out the album, weightless 'With You' is a romantic post club track, soft, longing vocals sit upon almost bird-like sounds. Digi only bonus, 'And Then There Was Light' is nthng's most ethereal offering yet.

Freestyle comes correct again with a killer slice of 1987 UK Street Soul from Purely Fizzycal, originally issued on the duo's own Pure Impact Productions label.

North Londoner Trish Langley met South Londoner Ash Kamat initially in the the mid 1980s on Tin Pan Alley, while Ash was working at Rod Argent's keyboard shop and running UK soul-focussed zine Soul Trade, and the quickly began working together. Following on from the psychoacoustic concrète of Outside Ludlow / Desert Disco LP (BT075), Sam Dunscombe returns to Black Truffle with Two Forests / Oceanic. Dunscombe has been active in recent years on multiple fronts, including as a key member of the Berlin community of Just Intonation researchers and practitioners; working with composers like Taku Sugimoto, Mary Jane Leach, and Anthony Pateras; and the release of Horatiu Radulescu - Plasmatic Music vol. 1 (the result of many years performance research into the thought and music of this seminal Romanian spectralist). In parallel with these activities, Dunscombe has been deeply involved in research on the role of music in psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy, prompting these two side long pieces, composed using field recordings and digital synthesis. As Dunscombe explains in the accompanying liner notes, music plays a key role in psychedelic-assisted therapy, yet it is often restricted to stock forms of New Age, ambient and electronica. Taking seriously the potential for spatio-environmental sonic experiences to add to the therapeutic process, these two pieces are intended to suggest how ‘a music-as-environment approach may help to add options to the therapist’s toolbox’. ‘Two Forests’ begins in a central Californian sequoia grove. Bird songs and buzzing insect life are treated with a variety of time-based processing methods (slicing and recombination, primitive granular synthesis, delay, and so on), which strip the field recordings of their linear, documentary character, reframing them in an enchanted web of traces and echoes. Analysing the pitches found in the original recordings, Dunscombe used them to generate a large Just Intonation pitch set. These tones are woven slowly into the field recordings, gradually building in density and complexity until the forest has been transformed into an unreal space of infinite proportions. Emerging from this cosmic expanse in the final minutes of the piece, we find ourselves in the Amazon rainforest outside Manaus, Brazil. As Dunscombe writes, the piece creates ‘a sense of place-gone-strange, of space and time simultaneously expanding and contracting across octaves, miles, and minutes’. On ‘Oceanic’, several recordings of different beaches fade in and out to create a texture both homogenous and constantly shifting in both the rhythm of the waves and each recording's sense of depth and distance. Tones relating in simple ratios to the average rhythm of each beach float over each other, colouring the white noise texture of the field recordings with shifting hues. In both pieces, Dunscombe forgoes the easy consonance that bogs down much contemporary ambient music for a richer harmonic array informed by extended tuning practices and spectralism. The end results suggest a hitherto undreamt-of meeting of Radulescu’s undulating sonic masses and the discreetly processed location recordings of Irv Teibel’s ‘psychologically ultimate’ Environments. Looking beyond the insularity that can afflict experimental music culture, Dunscombe’s work is a moving argument for the healing power of expanded approaches to sound and music. Even outside of a psychedelics-assisted therapy, frequent immersion in Two Forests / Oceanic is almost guaranteed to produce beneficial psychological results.

Agartha, the debut full-length album by Japanese producer Wata Igarashi, is a mysterious, divine thing. Named for the mythical secret kingdom, understood as a complex maze of underground tunnels, perhaps designed by Martians who colonised the Earth tens of thousands of years ago, it’s a similarly mystical, perhaps even cosmic trip – but this time, exploring an inner, deeply personal cosmos. Beautifully detailed and bustling with rich incident, it takes Igarashi’s music to new places, which still retaining his unique sonic imprimatur; in this respect, it’s perfectly at home with Kompakt, a label that’s always encouraged artists to make the visionary music they need to create, to take risks and make sideways steps into uncharted territory.

An eloquent producer and DJ, Igarashi has been releasing techno for eleven years now, appearing on such imprints as The Bunker NY, Delsin, Midgar, and Time To Express; he has also self-released his productions via his WIP net label. Throughout, Igarashi has consistently explored his unique approach to techno and electronic music, one that’s eloquent and poised, even when it shifts into more psychedelic terrain; he’s a master at balancing the sensual and the functional, and he has an unerring ear for the right texture, the right tone, at the right time. He brings all of this into Agartha, his most thorough-going expression of self to date.

For Agartha, Igarashi had a strong concept he wanted to explore. Visualising specific scenes from an imaginary film based on the titular secret kingdom, he created soundtracks for those scenes, spending time during the pandemic in his studio, working away carefully at the ten tracks here. Given his background in creating music for television and advertisements, Igarashi is well-placed to explore the marriage of the sonic and the visual in such intimate ways, but freed from commercial concerns, he let his imagination run riot. He also drew on a rich palette of musical influences – techno is in there, of course, but you can also hear the smoky, improvised jazz of the likes of Miles Davis (to whom the album’s title is an indirect nod), and the minimalism and systems music of Steve Reich.

The latter is particularly pronounced on the gorgeous, beatless drift of “Floating Against Time”, where an arpeggiated sequence lingers, lovingly, around your ears for nine blissful minutes, coasting across swooning drones and waves of ambient noise. “Ceremony Of The Dead”, originally composed as part of a Sony 360 Reality Audio spatial sound concert, is a deep pass into systems composition, with various patterns overlaid and interlocking, before a wordless vocal rises from the depths, a gorgeous counterpoint to the swarming textures that gather across the track. On the other hand, tracks like “Burning” and “Subterranean Life” nudge toward Fourth World territory, painting deluxe dreamscapes of uncertain provenance; the title cut is an abstract drift-world, Igarashi painting an alien tableau dotted by shape-shifting creatures.

Agartha’s conceptual framework means that everything on the album sits perfectly together; listening to it in one sitting is a dizzying, lush experience. Its imaginings of inner landscapes recall, in some respects, the nautical, aqueous mythologies of the Drexciyan universe, though from different perspectives. But the result is Igarashi’s own creation, a deluxe, enchanting trip through the visionary Agartha of this unique producer’s cinematic mind’s-eye.

Anish Kumar shares “Bollywood Super Hits!”, a five-track compendium of pulsating Bollywood turned house-and-disco cuts that have been turbo-charging Kumar’s recent DJ sets.

The introductory “Asha” bursts open the doors to the project with thumping four-to-the-floor rhythms and the saunter of sampled electric guitar melodies. Followed swiftly by “Sadhana”, a stomping, effervescent jaunt that’s received widespread club-support from the likes of industry stalwarts Daphni and Four Tet. “Nazia” is delightfully percussive and steeped in analog warmth, a soon-to-be disco anthem that yearns for peak time warehouse usage. The penultimate track, “Ananda”, is laced with wandering basslines and hair-raising vocal sampling, leading steadily into the project's conclusory cut “Lata”. Nocturnal and pressurised, the final track rises like a crescendo of razor-sharp techno synthesis and sheer vocal prowess.

“'Bollywood Super Hits!' is a compilation of 5 Bollywood flips I've been playing out in my sets. Classic Bollywood is a genre that holds great importance to me as I grew up listening to many of the hits from that era. It's been amazing to see faces in the crowd light up when they recognise, for instance, a hook from a track that is commonly played at Indian weddings, or the haunting vocal of an old
