Der Eurovision Song Contest feiert in diesem Jahr sein 70-jähriges Bestehen. Ausgetragen wird der Wettbewerb diesmal in Wien. Deutschland schickt Sängerin Sarah Engels mit dem Titel ”Fire” ins Rennen.

Marvin Gaye always dreamed of being a smooth crooner, “sitting on a stool, possibly behind a piano,” delivering velvety songs like Nat King Cole. But Motown had other plans. Pushed between raw R&B and polished pop, Gaye fought to find his own voice, eventually rising to become one of the greatest soul singers in history.

Motown Records released the first Marvin Gaye record in 1961 "(I'm Afraid) The Masquerade Is Over", a single intended for (radio) promotion from the singer's debut album. This was followed up by the officially released "Let Your Conscience Be Your Guide" a week later. Gaye scored his first real hit with "Stubborn Kind of Fellow" in 1962, which he had co-written himself, joking about his alleged stubbornness. He found his own unique style with the single released at the end of the year: "Hitch Hike". The foundations were now laid for an enormous series of chart successes: "Pride And Joy", "Can I Get A Witness", "How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)" and "Ain't That Peculiar" are all Motown classics from 1963-1965 which are still being regularly played today after all these years. The duets he recorded with Kim Weston ("It Takes Two"), especially Tammi Terrell and Diana Ross were certainly at least as good.

He scored his biggest ever hit with "I Heard It Through The Grapevine" in 1968. "What's Going On" from the same titled album became a number 1 hit in the USA. The album was received as a masterpiece and is regarded as one of the most important records in pop history. In 1973, the artistically and commercially very successful, "Let's Get It On" album was mainly a musical ode to Marvin's love for his new muse Janis Hunter. His journey continued after a turbulent relationship, addiction and a dramatic creative rebirth in Belgium, where he crafted the global hit “Sexual Healing in 1982.

Marvin Gaye left behind timeless hits, groundbreaking albums, and a legacy that shaped the sound of modern soul. His story, from ambition to artistry, from struggle to brilliance, remains as powerful as the music he created.

I first encountered Pascal Comelade’s music thirty years ago—and nothing has sounded quite the same since. I was immediately captivated: he is an artist like no other, whose sincere and selfless love of music is always evident, especially in his tender reworkings of other people’s songs.

Comelade seems to work like a watchmaker: meticulous, precise, and obsessive—yet always drifting into something dreamlike. His music opens hidden doors, telling strange and beguiling stories filled with obscurity, kindness, and reserved humour.

Back then, my fascination was instinctive. Today, with a few more words at my disposal, I look to this exceptional 70-year-old French musician and feel exactly the same pull.

Métaphysique Du Hit-Parade is the first vinyl compilation devoted to Pascal Comelade’s favourite cover versions. It spans a forty-year career and traces sixty years of rock and roll history along the way. “Sheena Is a Punk Rocker” becomes a soft, soothing lullaby that may well have made the Ramones weep. Then there are his idiosyncratic tributes to Jonathan Richman (“Egyptian Reggae”) and The Kinks (“Sunny Afternoon”), alongside nods to formative heroes such as The Gun Club, Captain Beefheart, and MC5.

Two exclusive recordings stand out particularly: Bob Dylan’s “Girl from the North Country” and Nirvana’s “Come As You Are”—a song that shaped my early youth. Both were recorded especially for this release.

Ataxia return to Planet E with two club-optimized cuts that capture their rolling, characterful approach to the authentic roots of Detroit's electronic culture. Marking the duo's return to Planet E following 2020's Oblivion EP, both tracks deliver energy tapped from a fundamental understanding of house and techno, equally charged with their punk and DIY background.

Immediately establishing a deep, hypnotic beat, 'The Whistles' expands into a collage of unruly samples that tour the club, the street and the true characters between. Playfully hinting at the tension between Detroit's party people and those who would like the music turned down, the track is a steamrolling club cut that finds Ataxia going wild with their most psychedelic studio trickery.

'Hocus On Pocus' is a tightly wound, punchy psychedelic wormhole of analogue FX and rubbery basslines, adding layers of pressure and surprising sonic twists. The result is an offbeat banger in the spirit of Planet E's wildest moments; primed for the dancefloor but with personality to spare.

For its 30th anniversary, Kruder & Dorfmeister’s DJ-Kicks is available for the first time in mixed form on 3LP, remastered by Bernie Grundman and packaged in a special box set including original imagery. Kruder & Dorfmeister's rendition of the series created an era defining moment, which tied together a glowing array of musical registers. The Viennese downtempo royalty blended a fusion of slowed down moments across many genres with rolling Drum and Bass from the likes of Aquasky, the melting acid lines of deep Hardfloor and the 90s boom bap sampling, smoked out atmospherics of Thievery Corporation amongst many more.

These masters of mood channeled the sound of a moment with their DJ-Kicks, which still retains a certified cinematic sheen, the patina of the real – curation and mixing at its most playful and refined. It remains to this day one of the most recognizable DJ-Kicks and mixes of all time. Containing two certified cuts from K&D themselves; the wooze is strong on “High Noon” with Dorfmeister's intoxicating jazz flute licks and a trembling harmonica atop a mirage of breaks. Their DJ-Kicks original and legendary tune “Black Baby” closes the mix providing a piece of grandeur, riding off into the distance deep to the vanishing point.

When the mix dropped in 1996, the slo-beat pioneers were among the hottest producers in the dance universe. Even though they only produced two unreleased maxis, names like Count Basie, Bomb The Bass, Alex Reece or United Future Organization had some of their tracks remixed by these exceptional producers. Rumour has it during the work for DJ-Kicks and their debut album they refused doing remixes for U2, Grace Jones, Elvis Costello and the Fantastic Four! ‘DJ-Kicks: Kruder & Dorfmeister’ took its place in the pantheon a long while back, effortless in its ability to traverse sounds, styles and tempos while retaining a selection which remains timelessly recognisable as: Kruder & Dorfmeister.

London experimental spoken word and electronics duo BAG land on Phantom Limb with mesmerising new album This House is a Body, marrying visceral poetry with exploratory production to achieve beguiling, occasionally screwy and occasionally dreamy sonics.

“This album functions as a floor plan, a house in itself, collecting and containing the ecosystems of multiple rooms,” write BAG - Canadian artist and poet Jody DeSchutter and London producer Daniel Allison. “The roles we play can be defined by the room we are in; and it can be near impossible to tell what room we are in without looking from outside. This album maps out a number of rooms which hold such relations, memories, or experiences and builds them all into a single house, a single body.” Formed from Allison’s headspinning, depth-mining production for synthesis, field recording, and acoustic instrumentation, and DeSchutter’s lysergic and prophetic spoken word, the palette of This House is a Body can turn on a dime from claustrophobia and dread to hyperreal dream sequence, illuminated in sunstreamed glory in places and dripping with basement effluvia in others. Throughout, words, meaning, and imagery all dissolve into an architecture of alternately familiar and unknowable sound.

The debut album from online sensation Ricky Montgomery, Montgomery Ricky, turns 10 on April 1st of this year. Türkischer Folk-Psych-Rock aus Amsterdam der brennt und funkt und treibt und unwiderstehlich außergewöhnlich ist. Wenn türkische Folk-Music Psych-Rock und Elektro-Pop trifft entstehen Altin Gün. Mit ihrem außergewöhnlichen Spagat zwischen scheinbar komplett unterschiedlichen Stilen gelingt dieser Band, die türkisch klingt, von deren sechs Mitglieder aber nur eines in der Türkei geboren wurde, etwas wirklich Außergewöhnliches. Als türkischen Psych Folk bezeichnen sich diese Niederländer selbst, und betonen, dass sie ihre Musik im Kern als Folk verstehen, freilich ein solcher, dem man die tiefe Liebe zur Musik der funkigen 60er und 70er anmerkt. Sehr groovig, elektrisch und voll explosiver psychedelischer Strukturen kommen die türkischen Stücke daher. Lieder, die zum Teil schon unzählige Male gehört und interpretiert wurden, die zur musikalischen Vergangenheit der Türkei gehören, ihr Erbe sind, aber völlig neu klingen. Bandgründer und Bassist von Altin Gün, Jasper Verhulst, betont, wie wichtig das identitätsstiftende Potential der Lieder ist, dass man diesem aber etwas Einzigartiges hinzufügen wollte, was die Hörer innehalten lässt. "Die Lieder stammen aus einer langen Tradition. Das ist Musik, die versucht, eine Stimme für Viele zu sein. (... Und dann) brauchen wir etwas, das die Leute dazu bringt zuzuhören, als wäre es das erste Mal." Der Sound von Altin Gün klingt gleichermaßen traditionell wie vollständig zeitgenössisch und zeigt auf fast schon märchenhafte Art und Weise, dass Musik ein kulturell durchlässiges, experimentelles Medium ist, in dem uns immer wieder wunderschöne Überraschungen begegnen. Mit "Gece", ihrem zweiten Album, hat sich die Band nun endgültig als unverzichtbarer Interpret des anatolischen Rock- und Folk-Erbes etabliert und ist eine absolut unverwechselbare Stimme in der aufstrebenden globalen Psych-Rock-Szene geworden.

Sie machen keine großen Worte, hampeln nicht 24/7 auf allen Social-Media-Kanälen herum, verzichten auf Werbung und große Worte jeglicher Art und spielen nicht wahllos an jeder Steckdose. Eigentlich ein Unding in der heutigen Zeit. Geschäftsschädigung in eigener Sache, quasi. Und dennoch ist die im Jahr 2009 gegründete Formation aus Tübingen mit jedem ihrer immer stoisch und schlicht mit dem Bandnamen betitelten Alben stets aufs Neue in vieler Munde, genießt mindestens Respekt, bei etlichen Fans gar unantastbaren Kultstatus - und das nicht nur innerhalb der Punk(Rock)-Basis, sondern auch bis tief in die Alterna- und Metalszene hinein. Große Riffs - mal episch, mal punkruppig, mal schmissig, und so gut wie immer nackenbrechend - und der zuweilen zweistimmige Gesang sind die Kerntrademarks des Vierers, dazu spartanische, aufs Bitternötigste reduzierte englische Lyrics sowie ein magnetisierender Groove, für den unzählige andere Musiker töten würden: HYSTERESE at it's very best. Auch mit Album Nummer fünf pflügen HYSTERESE durch eure Herzen. Wie nicht anders zu erwarten, walzt das Quartett seinen schwermütigen Punk-Rock in die nächste Metamorphose. Die riesigen Melodien sind getragen von krachigen Breitwand-Gitarren, mal Shoegaze, mal 80s Rockismus, zeitlos und integer. Und hat da jemand tatsächlich Manilla Road gesagt?

It happens very rarely that you can praise a records without any reservations, this is the case here!!!



A lot of ink has flowed across the page since the Vogue/Swing release (1955) of that founding solo record. The repertoire was made up of pieces that Thelonious was playing in New York over that period, but in trio or with a quartet, here his music shows nakedness, i should say crudeness, whisch is completely overwhelming. It is a balck and white photograph of what is happening inside Monk's head; its sharpness is enthralling, as everyone has known for more than sixty years.



We enter the world of one of the most original artists. Monk, at 37, is at the peak of his art.

BILLY CHILDISH veröffentlicht seit 1979 Platten, HOLLY GOLIGHTLY seit 1990; 1999 taten sie sich für ein gemeinsames Projekt zusammen, das ursprünglich in den USA bei Wabana Records erschien. IN BLOOD ist ein großartiges Album, das bei der ersten Veröffentlichung in Europa so gut wie ignoriert wurde. Der Untertitel von IN BLOOD lautet ONE CHORD! ONE SONG! ONE SOUND!. Aber es ist so viel mehr als das: Tracks wie ,Demolition Girl" und ,Step Out" dröhnen aus deiner Stereoanlage - wirklich großartige, dreckige Ein-Akkord-Blues-Songs (mit vielen Noten), mit Gesangswechseln, klirrenden Gitarren und begleitet von der Medway Delta Review, zu der Bruce und Johnny von Thee Headcoats sowie Johnny Gibb von den Wildebeests gehören. ‘Sustained’ is the new album by Jungstötter, the solo project of Berlin-based songwriter and musician Fabian Altstötter. With sparse, poignant arrangements of piano, strings, electronics, and noise, Jungstötter composes a tender, raw, and poetic song cycle of exquisite romanticism, featuring a cast of close collaborators including the Berlin-based artist Ronja (Roomer). Evoking the fervent vocal versatility of ANOHNI and Scott Walker, Jungstötter adopts the human breath as a central metaphor in a miraculously moving opus of intimacy, vulnerability, and communion.

Across ten tracks of experimental pop songcraft, notes oscillate, soft strings linger, piano ambles, noise billows up and sears back into itself – and all of it is bound by a distinct voice that roams from a remote, warped undertone to an immediate melodic intensity.

Distorting the soft edges of vocal melody with rattling tactile noise, ‘Sustained’ is a mercurial portrait of layered lyric and contracting sound. First up: Gastón Cabrera’s Inhumano, a little relentless and unforgiving, like being thrown in the back of an Aston Martin and driven away. The groove builds to a haunting peak, and you want more. Then the record blurs into Alfalfa’s La Fiebre, which tickles your ears with eerie bells, and builds from bass fundamentals into something more driving. It’s hopeful, but makes you work for it – wading through acid; climbing the hill.

Everything stops. Fuck it. You flip the record, and Marcos Coya’s The Underdog starts off easy, but slips you down a dark path to a pool of churning, hypnotic synths. There’s a strange moment of quiet before the final track. vault. and Isaac Elejalde close with authority on Just Melt: a raw and writhing finale spiked with voices and sirens that will leave you out of breath, somewhere else.

Support by Yamour, Lawrence, Mapache, Prosumer, Denis Kaznacheev and many others. On the A side we have Memorandum - heard at Giegling showcases - and Semper, an exercise in driving bass minimalism.

Gatzara Records present a soul version of “We Need Love” by Johnny Osbourne, produced by The Blaxound and sung by Roberto Sanchez. On the B side, there is a hip hop version built from samples of the A side, featuring Rel McCoy, an MC from the United States.

On stage 12 Tribes Of Mars really cast their spell: time and time again trance inducing acoustic grooves are torn apart by wild improvisations and electronics, before the musicians return to the rhythm as if nothing had ever happened. All members of 12 Tribes are trained jazz musicians that are most comfortable in the borderland between musical genres. This tidy joint release between Future Rootz and Luchando Music compiles rare recordings from 1970s and 80s Cuba, all sourced from private archives and reel-to-reel tapes. This is the sort of selection to get serious diggers hot under the collar as it explores funk-driven arrangements, jazz-informed horn sections and rhythm-led compositions contoured with Afro-Cuban percussion. There is plenty of tape saturation and analogue noise present throughout that reinforces the archival origins of the music and instrumentation centres on brass, keys and layered percussion, with grooves built from syncopated patterns and live ensembles. Alongside the music, restored credits and contextual research foreground the musicians and recording histories behind these previously unavailable works. Do not sleep on this one.

Opponents Stims has two cuts from his current live show, the blistering, pummeling, nominatively deterministic Relentless Opponent and the euphoric / cathartic Who Booed the Geese, maxing out Goose intensity. They nestle up against two coy vignettes, Uxor Cut and My Crow Life and then Frisky Mellows. That’s an addictive, briskly paced 4/4 Detroit-tinted number that could almost be a lost Carl Craig classic.

Neon pink vinyl. Their first new music since 2019, 'Killing The Buzz' sees The Black Wizards entering a new era, with their first release via Hassle Records. Signalling a bold step forward in sound, they shift towards a raw, garage-driven sound, built around direct arrangements, live energy and a strong sense of urgency. The Porto-based trio lay down a striking first impression on the single: Joana Brito's wiry, spitfire vocals volley off José Gomes' gravelly replies, over a chugging, serpentine groove propelled by Helena Peixoto's restless percussion. "Do you print yourself out pretty to look better in banners?" Brito questions archly, referencing the political signage that dots the streets of their home country, Portugal. The aptly named "Momentum" is the label's first EP from Decoder, who recently released an album to wide acclaim on Planet X. Spread across 6 tracks, the EP is drenched in psychedelia as it effortlessly moves through different moods and aesthetics to take dancers through the night.

"Flowing" begins the EP with stripped-back percussion and moody atmospherics, transporting the listener into a trance. "Photon" takes a nostalgic trip back to the 90s, featuring a 909 workout that's heavily processed with intensifying effects.

Wer sich Drunks Debütalbum ,A Derby Spiritual" aus dem Jahr 1996 noch einmal anhört, wird feststellen, dass es charmanter, sanfter und - wenn ich das so sagen darf - farbenfroher ist, als es sein stoischer Slow-Core-Ruf aus den 90ern vermuten lässt. Und man könnte sogar bemerken, dass Rick Alversons Stimme einen bisher ungeahnten, von Niederlagen gezeichneten Tom-Petty-Singsang aufweist. Der Sound der Band aus Richmond ist zweifellos zurückhaltend, knarrend und karg. Doch die Jahrzehnte haben diesem alten, traurigen Kerl einen wärmenden bernsteinfarbenen Schimmer verliehen. Das Black-Hole-Radio-Stück am Ende des atemberaubenden Openers ,Collarbone" scheint das Kommen von ,Yankee Hotel Foxtrot" vorherzusagen. High-definition world building collides with incisive physical urgency around 170 BPM as Pianeti Sintetici makes his first appearance on Samurai Music. Davide Perrone's vivid production style found a more downtempo outlet on last year's release for Samurai sub label Saibai, but he pivots naturally towards the weightier presence of the Exoverse with a richly rendered suite of sonic systems teeming with life and pockmarked with mystery. The spacious drums that lead on 'Agilus' have an acoustic, in-the-room quality that instantly grounds the track before the myriad layers of synthesis start spiralling skywards, pitting twinkling pads against rapid, undulating acid wielded with assured control. By way of contrast 'Mimoide' burrows downwards, using needlepoint marks to puncture the brooding beds of sound looming in the middle distance. At the same time, Perrone weaves lithe, rubbery shapes across the foreground of the mix for a three-dimensional expression you can almost reach out and touch. Opening up a B side tipped towards a mellower pace, 'Living Plasma' leans into a 4/4 meditation as a vessel for another distinctive tapestry of modulating sound design from Perrone's seemingly infinite sonic resources. 'Exoverse' edges towards a more melodic standpoint with its teased flutters of arpeggio that sneak in and out of the mix and a harmonic dimension to the atmospheric layers that shape out the size of the track. Across all four pieces, the sheer detail at play in the Pianeti Sintetici universe is mind-boggling. By rights it should be a busy, stress-inducing experience, but Perrone's gift lies in the ability to take a macro view on these incredibly complex creations, zooming out by boiling the parts down into a symbiotic whole that feels patient and considered. The reward for the listener comes from taking the time to zoom in and marvel at every micro detail writhing across the surface.

Darwin Chamber is a veteran of the prog game, and now that sound is very much back en vogue, it's no wonder new generations are falling for the American's sounds. Back in March, he dropped this EP which was inspired by a San Fran acid trip, and it became an instant classic that meant the initial translucent yellow vinyl edition, limited to 303 copies, soon sold out. Now it reappears on black wax and obviously it still bangs. 'The Acid Test (DJ Spun mix)' is a heavy, raw jam with plenty of trippy details, warped pads and vocals that come and go so subtly you can't really be sure they're there. 'Never Coming Down' is a deep and dark workout with cold analogue hits and paranoid vocals, then '25th Century Acid Cat' is a little brighter with its synths but no less of a mind-fuck. 'Get Down' is gurgling, coruscated, sleazy and mid-tempo acid techno for the freaks. Brilliant.

4am Kru make a return to vinyl with the Love On The Line EP, an exploration of the familiar, bittersweet story of a romantic relationship between two people, from start to finish.

On a remote gravel-covered spit of land on the east coast lie the abandoned buildings of a government facility for weapons testing and experiments with radar.
In the mid 1960s this site witnessed the construction of an over-the-horizon radar, a technological marvel bouncing signals off the ionosphere, built to covertly monitor the activities of other nations.
The reflectivity of the ionosphere is a function of frequency, time of day, time of year and of the solar cycle. In essence, a sympathy for the celestial was required to fully exploit this man made construction.
Plagued by noise that created false returns on the monitors, the intended performance was never achieved, and despite several investigations the system was shut down and eventually dismantled in the early 1970s.
The long dormant Cobra is now a nature reserve.

Anané’s colourful life in music has seen her do everything from singing at the famous pre-game show at Super Bowl XLI as part of the group Elements of Life, DJ at hotspots like Hi Ibiza, Pacha NYC and Ushuaïa to name a few, while also curating her own monthly residency Nulu Movement, now ten years strong at Le Bain NYC, release unique blends of Afro, house, and pop on labels like Vega Records, and head up her own imprints, Nulu Music and Nulu Electronic. The Cape Verdean-born DJ, producer, vocalist, and songwriter has had countless club hits and has released acclaimed albums like ‘Ananésworld’ and ‘Chapters Of Becoming’, often with a lush, live, and orchestrated style that is truly unique.

With this release, Anané steps forward with her first solo production to date. Here she serves up the sumptuous ‘It Looks Like Love’, a poised, elegant house sound with her own smoking, soulful vocals and classy strings bringing colour to an Afro groove packed with infectious bounce. Neat guitar riffs and silky synths all enrich this most sophisticated sound. The first mix sees Anané link up with veteran Italian Christian Mantini, who has hosted Sunset Ritual parties with Anané and Louie Vega since 2013. Their dub is rooted in warm, rubbery drums that are even deeper and more immersive than the original.

Manda Moor & Sirus Hood are a red-hot contemporary pair who run the Mood label and are defining the contemporary underground. Their remix is more driving, but it retains the soulful vibe with breezy pads and jazzy motifs drifting in and out above the swaggering groove.

Rotterdam-based Chicagoan Jamie 3:26 is a master at blending disco, soul, and house into timeless sounds, and here he delivers a loopy rework that pairs deep drive and sun-kissed vibes with funky, Chic-style bass guitar motifs.

The Bluebeaters enjoyed a revival with their 2025 album Everybody Knows, released by Record Kicks. In 2023, to be included in a compilation created by Freedom Sounds Festival in Cologne (Germany), we reworked an extra track entitled TRINITY that had been left off the album. In addition to being included in the compilation, it became the first single on 7-inch vinyl released by the newly formed Caribb Roots.

Although we played it live, the recording of the song had been left half-finished, so we picked it up again, recorded the horns and vocals, and finished mixing it.

The song is linked to the very Italian tradition of Western film soundtracks, and Trinity is a seminal song in this sense.

Weiß-blaues Halstuch, das Dorf im Rücken, die große Bühne vor der Brust: TREAM hat in den vergangenen Jahren aus einer Welt, die lange eher nach Bierzelt, A-Klasse-Fußball und letzter Zigarette am
Weiher klang, eines der eigenständigsten Erfolgsmodelle der deutschen Poplandschaft gebaut. Der 27-
Jährige aus Büchelkühn bei Schwandorf verbindet HipHop, Pop und modernen Schlager zu einem Sound,
der genauso drückt wie er mitsingtauglich ist, genauso größenwahnsinnig wie bodenständig und genauso
laut wie herzlich. Oder, wie TREAM selbst es sagt: »Meine Musik klingt nach Leben«. Genau das ist auch
die Überschrift über seinem neuen Album »STAMMTISCHPAROLEN«.
Dass TREAM längst mehr ist als ein Phänomen mit Kultstatus, zeigt sein Weg der letzten Jahre ziemlich
eindeutig. Nach der restlos ausverkauften »Biergarnitour 2024«, einer Arena-Tour 2025 mit über 130.000
verkauften Tickets und drei Abenden hintereinander in der Münchner Olympiahalle geht es im Sommer
2026 auf die nächste Stufe: die erste große Open-Air-Tour. Dazu kommt in diesem Jahr seine Teilnahme
bei »Sing meinen Song – Das Tauschkonzert«. Das alles wirkt bei TREAM nicht wie der glattgebügelte
Aufstieg eines Künstlers, der sich für den Mainstream passend gemacht hat, sondern eher wie das konsequente Durchziehen einer eigenen Vision.
Genau deshalb passt auch der Albumtitel so gut. »STAMMTISCHPAROLEN« ist nicht politisch gemeint,
sondern ein selbstbewusstes Etikett für 15 Songs, die TREAMs eigenes Lebensgefühl bündeln: Provokation,
Herz, Heimweg, Heimweh, Abriss, Eskalation, Freundschaft, Sehnsucht und ein Humor, der nur funktioniert, wenn einer weiß, wo er herkommt. Das Album spielt mit bayerischen Bildern, ohne darin stecken zu
bleiben, und macht aus Klischees Gegenwart.
Schon der Opener »BAYERN GO HIGH (INTRO)« macht klar, dass hier niemand langsam anlaufen will:
808s drücken, Hörner dröhnen, irgendwo zwischen US-Rap-Sound und bayerischer Folklore wird sofort der
Claim abgesteckt. »DIE KENN ICH NICHT« zieht als vergnügter Spießrutenlauf weiter, »SAUNAKONTAKT« erzählt mit Uptempo-Beats den Wahnsinn einer Begegnung, und »HASENJAGD« liefert eine
Hymne, die klingt, als würde die Nacht schon beim Intro eskalieren.
Auch in den Kollabos zeigt sich die Erweiterung seiner Welt: »EISENBAHN« mit Bausa, »APRES SKI«
mit Gzuz oder »K2« feat. Blümchen verbinden scheinbar Gegensätzliches und funktionieren genau deshalb.
Dass »STAMMTISCHPAROLEN« mehr kann als Abriss, zeigen die ruhigeren Momente: »WUNSCH FREI«
erzählt von den Schattenseiten eines Lebens, das von außen nach Dauerparty aussieht, »99 LUFTBALLONS« ist ein Lovesong, während »PSYCHO« und »ALLERLETZTE FAHRT« die Platte in eine nachden-klichere Richtung ziehen.
Gerade darin liegt die Stärke des Albums: Es macht aus Bayern kein Postkartenmotiv und aus TREAM
keine Kunstfigur, sondern zeigt einen Künstler, der Wirtshaus, Wahnsinn und Weltoffenheit gleichzeitig
denken kann – laut, liebevoll, verletzlich und provokant.

Gravity Freeze ist die andere Seite derselben Medaille und entstand im gleichen Zeitraum wie Electric War.
Beide Alben wurden parallel aufgenommen, wobei bei Gravity Freeze Tony Coote am Schlagzeug sitzt. Die
Songs wurden in derselben Phase geschrieben und aufgenommen, allerdings gab es Stücke, die sich natürlicher in den Little Barrie-Kosmos einfügten – Gravity Freeze verfolgt dabei einen stärker songorientierten
Ansatz mit einer direkten Verbindung zu Rhythm & Blues, während Electric War experimenteller angelegt
ist.
Barrie hatte zuvor bereits mit dem Produzenten Rupert Lyddon an verschiedenen Soundtrack- und Filmprojekten gearbeitet, darunter der Dokumentarfilm-Soundtrack zu Dogs On The Streets sowie Barries
musikalische Beiträge zu Elvis und The Black Phone von Scott Derrickson.
Dies ist das erste Little Barrie-Album seit dem tragischen Tod von Virgil Howe im Jahr 2017.

McCoy Tyner - Inception
Als Pianist McCoy Tyner im November 1962 sein Debütalbum für Impulse! Records aufnahm, wollte er ein
eigenes musikalisches Statement setzen und sich damit von der modalen Musik abgrenzen, die er damals
mit John Coltrane spielte. Bei den Aufnahmesessions mit Bassist Art Davis und Schlagzeuger Elvin Jones
- beide Kollegen aus dem Coltrane-Ensemble - setzte er deshalb vor allem auf eigene Kompositionen, in
denen er seine unverwechselbaren Voicings und seinen rhythmischen Drive in den Vordergrund stellte. In
der AllMusic-Rezension von Alexander Gelfand heißt es: “Dieses Album gibt Hörern die Möglichkeit zu erfahren, wie ein sehr junger Tyner außerhalb der Grenzen des klassischen John Coltrane Quartet der frühen
60er Jahre klang; es offenbart einen lyrischen Ansatz für das Jazzpiano, der weit entfernt von Tyners reifem
Stil zu sein scheint.”

Mit “Birth of the Cool” schuf Miles Davis eines der stilbildenden Werke des Jazz. An der Einspielung des

New album by FLOCKS, the duo of drone specialist WERNER DURAND and percussionist ULI HOHMANN. Musical landscapes that move between traditional as well as experimental sounds with influences from Krautrock and JON HASSELL's "fourth world" aesthetics.

WERNER DURAND has made himself a name with various projects with Dhrupad singer AMELIA CHRISTIANSEN, DAVID CHRISTER HENNIX, as the co-founder of THE 13th TRIBE, ARMCHAIR TRAVELLER and TONALIENS (with ROBIN HAYWARD and HILARY JEFFERY) plus numerous solo albums, released on labels like Black Truffle, Unseen Worlds or Edition Telemark. Having studied saxophone as well as Indian / Persian flutes, the Berlin based DURAND is a highly reputated protagonist in the drone scene, famous for his self-built wind instruments like buzz-clarinets or his PVC neys & horns.

His partner in FLOCKS (and longtime personal friend) is ULI HOHMANN whose early encounters with music from Asia, India and Africa led to studies with the Ghanaian master drummer MUSTAPHA TETTEY ADDY and later Tombak and Daf with NEMAD DARMAN (Iran). HOHMANN played in a couple of projects that explored the language of classical Persian music, and started building his own stringed instruments (being an educated carpenter). In 2014 he joined DURAND and AMELIA CUNI for the album "Clearing", and 2018 DURAND and HOHMANN decided to con- tinue as a duo: FLOCKS was born.

On “Lagoon”, the duo further explores the aesthetics it has crafted on its selftitled debut (2023, on the now defunct ZEHRA imprint): DURAND and HOHMANN shape drone-y soundscapes based on their self-built wind- & stringed instruments, Persian percussion and subtle electronics, drawing ad- ditional inspiration from Krautrock (listen to the irresistible, hypnotique, ever-changing rhythmic pattern of the title track) as well as JON

Aquainted through their shared love of music technology, and now a friendship, this is the second-time pairing between German artist Arovane and American artist Taylor Deupree after their first release together in November 2022: »Skal_Ghost« on 12k.

This new release explores once more an organic journey built around loops and layers or processed and re-processed sounds giving this particular color to a must-have album.

Dieses Projekt ist Alex Gs zweiter Film-Score nach seiner Arbeit an ,We're All Going to the World's Fair". Mit Africanism Vol. 5 kehrt das legendäre Afro-House-Kollektiv rund um Bob Sinclar zurück und präsentiert ein kraftvolles, globales Club-Statement voller Rhythmus, Identität und musikalischer Verbindung. Das Album vereint herausragende Produzenten und Artists wie DJ Gregory, Moonlight Benjamin, Boddhi Satva, Arkadyan, Jesús Fernández, Bonga u. v. a. in zwölf Tracks, die moderne House-Produktionen mit afrikanischer Energie, traditionellen Instrumenten und organischen Grooves verschmelzen lassen. Zeitgleich mit der Fußball-Weltmeisterschaft 2026 veröffentlicht das Label 4AD eine besondere Double-A-Side-7-Inch-Single mit zwei alternativen WM-Hymnen von Air Miami und Colourbox. Die Single trägt den Titel "Complicated Opposition". Das Artwork stammt von Chris Bigg und verwendet Fotografien von The Douglas Brothers. Der Song "World Cup Fever" von Air Miami erschien ursprünglich 1995 auf dem Album "Me. Me. Me.". Er entstand im Sommer 1994, als Mark Robinson mit Blast Off Country Style auf Tour war - während die USA erstmals Gastgeber der Fußball-WM waren. Robinson erinnerte sich, dass er sich damals Fußballschuhe und grellorange Trainer-Shorts aus einem Second-Hand-Laden kaufte. Seine Bandkollegen nannten ihn daraufhin "Coach". Bei einem Konzert in North Carolina meinte Esther Oliver zu ihm: "Du hast World-Cup-Fieber" - eine Bemerkung, die schließlich den Song inspirierte. Der Titel wurde von Pete Weiss neu gemastert. Der zweite Track, "The Official Colourbox World Cup Theme", erschien ursprünglich 1986 als Bonustrack einer CD-Neuauflage des Debüt-Mini-Albums von Colourbox. Das Stück war als Fußball-Thema gedacht und wurde sogar für die BBC-Sendung während der 1986 FIFA World Cup in Betracht gezogen, jedoch letztlich nicht verwendet. Das Remaster stammt von Kevin Vanbergen. Auch darüber hinaus gibt es Verbindungen zwischen 4AD und Fußball. Designer Vaughan Oliver war leidenschaftlicher Fußballfan und gestaltete unter anderem Artwork für Sunderland AFC. Die Indie-Supergroup The Lillies veröffentlichte zudem den Song "And David Seaman Will Be Very Disappointed About That...", der 1991 einem Fanzine von Tottenham Hotspur beilag.

Schwarzes Vinyl. Das 2004 erschienene MM..FOOD von MF DOOM wird inzwischen als Hip-Hop Klassiker-Album voller einfallsreicher Produktion, brillanter Wortspiele und einzigartiger Themen gewürdigt. Gefeiert für seine nahtlose Mischung aus Humor, Witz und sozialem Kommentar, entführt das Album den Hörer in eine bizarre Welt voller Lebensmittel-Metaphern und zeichnet ein bitter-komödiantisches Porträt eines Lebens, das von Laster, Gewalt und Eifersucht verdorben ist. Ein brillantes und damals neuartiges Konzept, das DOOM viel Raum zur Erkundung der Themen des Albums gab. Im Verlauf von MM..FOOD bettet DOOM komplexe Ideen in scheinbar einfache Erzählungen ein. Der Album-Opener "Beef Rapp" ist eine vielschichtige Metapher, die den Hörer an die Gefahren erinnert, die mit der Verherrlichung von Konflikten verbunden sind, insbesondere im Rap. "Hoe Cakes" leiht sich seinen Namen von den süßen, mit heißem Wasser gefüllten Maismehlfladen, die er als Symbol benutzt, um über Genuss und Exzess zu reimen. Mit dem von Madlib produzierten "One Beer" setzt DOOM das Motiv fort, um Schichten von Tiefe über Eskapismus und Ego zu falten, während das populäre "Rapp Snitch Knishes" die Verkaufsdiskriminierung und widersprüchlichen Verhaltensweisen einiger Rapper kritisiert. Insgesamt ist MM..FOOD sowohl ein sozialer Kommentar als auch ein Stück Gesellschaftssatire, das MF DOOMs Fähigkeit unter Beweis stellt, ernste Themen mit seinem einzigartigen, verspielten lyrischen Stil zu verbinden. Label Boss TSVI is back with a brand new release on Nervous Horizon: Dance Tripping EP! Inspired by his early years in London, where he spent countless nights at minimal and tech house raves, the EP draws elements from these styles through stripped back productions and groove driven basslines. Moving away from TSVI’s signature percussion focused sound, the record prioritises a more sound design approach, exploring texture, movement and club functionality.
The EP opens with Music is Moving, a high energy festival weapon built around a groovy bassline and a UK garage leaning swing. A sharp, restless lead drives the track forward before exploding into a euphoric climax of phased and distorted sawtooth waves. Next comes The Wasp Track, combining pitched down leads with a rolling tech house groove, built for peak time tension and release. The title track Dance Tripping sees TSVI at his most stripped back, featuring loopy analog textures and hypnotic rhythmic elements that focus on repetition. The last two tracks Kataklisma and Turbo Motion create a literal sonic apocalypse by pounding the club with heavy reeses and mean beats.
