Yes, it’s the space around the object, what you leave out that makes what you leave in so important. ESG know this. Sure they can play the game but it’s the swagger of the groove and the minimal topping – like an anti-cup cake – that makes this unique New York sisterhood so appealing on ‘Keep On Moving’. Sampled on TV ads, lauded by critics and swooned over on the dancefloor, ESG’s post-punk took out the grunge and polished the basics. Cut them open and “less is more” is written all the way through. ‘Keep On Moving’ was released over ten years ago to much praise (Q said it was “even better” than 2002’s much loved ‘Step Off’). ESG had been sparring partners for PiL and early hip hop and four years after the ‘Off’, they were onto something new – rhythm as core, reflective storylines about relationship management, sensuality and insanity gather around the bass fix but they’re much blurrier than the incessant beats. Inadvertently they unmask techno and glitch and leave out any kind of superfluous fluff. It’s hard and temple throbbing. Turn it up. The industrial treasure chest of Laurent Petitgand & Thierry Mérigout Geins’t Naït unit gets a third and final archival jag, playing to a spectrum of styles from misfit tape cut-ups to sludgy grooves and trampling sidewinds of the filthiest, sickest calibre.

The three volumes mining the Geins’t Naït Archive have parsed some 40 years of work for the most potent industrial blatz, culminating in some of the gnarliest and richest tackle on this final volume. As also highlighted on releases via Vladimir Ivkovic’s Offen Music label, it’s hard to fully surmise Geins’t Naït’s oeuvre, but you kinda know it when it hits. It’s industrial, or more specifically post-industrial, in the classic sense of everything after Throbbing Gristle and their famous label; buzzing with atonality and often heavily rhythm-driven, but not necessarily built for the club. In some senses, it's adjacent to freakier ‘floors in a way shared by the likes of Bourbonese Qualk or Din A Testbild, likeminded miscreants who emerged in TG’s shadow during the ‘80s.

‘Archives 3/3’ opens with a particularly Gallic slant on the paradigm in ‘Michel’, and shells a slew of thee crankiest gear that shares a certain tone and thrust toward trippy abstraction with Anne Gillis. ‘Abstrac 2’ finds them speaking in ogreish tongues on an uncanny waltz, before dialling up the pomp with near-EBM levels of muscularity and fanfare on ‘Poiro’, and unleashing reverse-looped heck like a La Peste joint in ‘GN is Good For You’. The keening pulse and nose attack of ‘Rappel’ reminds us of CHBB, and the evil slug of ‘Hate’ feels summoned from Parisian catacombs, whilst ‘Wladimir’ stands out for its phosphorous synth burn and prototypical Él-G poetry, leaving ‘Base Cour’ to souse the senses in distortion and barnyard squabble.

3. Januar 2025 (Los Angeles, CA) - Oceanside Countryside ist das letzte der großen »verlorenen« Alben von Neil Young, das als Teil seiner Analog Original Series (AOS) veröffentlicht wird. Das Album wurde von Mai bis Dezember 1977 aufgenommen und ging der Veröffentlichung von Comes A Time im Jahr 1978 voraus. Die beiden Alben haben den gleichen Country/Folk-Sound, und drei Songs (»Goin' Back«, »Human Highway« und »Field of Opportunity«) sind auf beiden Alben enthalten.

Die Vinyl-Veröffentlichung von Oceanside Countryside enthält einige Titel, die auf der gleichnamigen CD in Neil Young's Archives Vol. III enthalten sind. Diese Titelliste ist jedoch diejenige, die ursprünglich für die Veröffentlichung von Oceanside Countryside geplant war und nun zum ersten Mal überhaupt auf Vinyl erhältlich ist. The 299 Game is the debut lp from 299, a collection of ten songs with an overarching sense of Lynchian weirdness is offset by songs that ring with crisp melodies and compositional nous. 299 is the solo recording project of Welsh multi-instrumentalist and producer Gavin Fitzjohn (who has worked with the likes of Manic Street Preachers, Gruff Rhys, James Dean Bradfield, Paolo Nutini and more), with 299 coming to life a few years ago while Fitzjohn was making his way across the US. Intoxicating, dangerous in its allure, there are flecks of '60s vocal groups and Tom Waits-style melancholia tied up in Fitzjohn's deliberate American drawl.

* Following on from the success of the 'Ram Reloaded' repress vinyl series, we are pleased to announce our next project in collaboration with Ram Records. As part of Ram Records’ 30th anniversary, we have put together a series of new remixes and VIP’s of some of the labels biggest releases from the early 90’s.

* The Touch (Ant Miles Remix)
Being one half of Origin Unknown alongside Andy C, Ant Miles located the original floppy Akai sample disks from way back in 1993 and was able to load them up into his Akai sampler. He went on a mission to not only recreate the sound and vibe of the original A side of RAMM004, but to then go on to enhance and tweak all the elements, including various elements from the 'Part 2 mix' that came out later in 1993. 

* The Touch (Ruff and Ruffer Remix)
Two DJs also from Hornchurch in Essex, have already lined up their debut 12" which will be released later this year on Out Of Romford Records. From the strength of this forthcoming Hardcore tear out 12" they were invited to submit a remix of 'The Touch'. Being long-time fans of the Ram and Liftin Spirit labels, they took the samples and went in with a passion to create a twisted up and slammin’ remix which so far has blown everyone away with its energy and overall technique. These two brothers are ones to watch out for in 2024.

* Valley of the Shadows (New Decade Remix)
New Decade (Out Of Romford Records) follow up their run of outstanding remixes; 'Cold Fresh Air' and 'The Big Bang' this time visiting the anthemic 'Valley of the Shadows' a.k.a. Long Dark Tunnel. Encapturing the sound and vibe of the 1993 original, New Decade have taken it further, enhancing and twisting the hypnotic atmospheres, yet keeping the original rolling feel of the drums and basslines whilst also including the occasional nod to the remixes that appeared throughout the 1990’s. The initial reception of this remix has been exceptional and has completely stunned and transfixed the masses, being commented on by many as perhaps the best of the four remixes that have landed over its 31 years.

* Valley of the Shadows (Awake '96 Mix)
This was the second remix to appear three years after the original in 1996 and has been carefully remastered with today’s technology for this final Ram Reloaded 2024 12" release. Andy C & Ant Miles took the original and slightly sped up the tune utilising subtle tweaks and enhancements with the added vocal 'Awake in Another Dimension'. This mix featured prominently on Kiss FM and Radio 1 back in the day.

Sofia Kourtesis has announced that she will release her new EP Volver on 1 August via Ninja Tune. Along with the announcement she has shared lead single ‘Unidos’ which is made in collaboration with Daphni (aka Dan Snaith aka Caribou), the first ever Daphni collaboration track.

Speaking of the single Sofia says:
“Unidos is about the power and beauty of how much stronger we are together. I always admire the light and the beautiful shine of Dan, he is a hero and he is so generous without making a big fuss about it”

While Daphni says:
“Sofia sent me a demo of this track that she’d been working on and it was immediately evident that it was a massive track. To be clear, all the good ideas in this track are Sofia’s I just added some drums and pumped up the arrangement”

Speaking of the Volver EP Sofia says:
“In the Volver EP I am paying tribute to all the LGBT+ community and all the amazing trans women that I was lucky to meet through the course of the last few years. Their bravery and existence in a world full of hate and danger, they find a way to bring the lights to the most vulnerable communities, specifically those that are behind the walls of terrible corruption in the Latino America Security and Health System.”

The EP recording itself she describes - in keeping with its title - as like a Pedro Almodóvar movie: a chaotic, painful but ultimately joyful experience, as she worked across her twin homes in Germany and Peru with dramatic changes occurring all the time. Across this process Sofia was touring the world, playing bigger and bigger shows, working with local communities in Germany and South America, navigating the continued care of her mother, and even decided to throw beginning to study medicine into the mix.

This has always been what makes Sofia such a special artist - there is so much living crammed into every inch of her music. Here she builds on that, her intoxicating spirit more present than ever.

Ajay Saggar is BHAJAN BHOY. "With BHAJAN BHOY, Saggar synthesizes all of the stylistic approaches he’s explored over the years, swirling them into an intoxicating musical blend, with an earthy spirituality. Even the project’s name reflects the dual aspects of Saggar’s upbringing coming together in harmony. In Hindi, a “bhajan” is a devotional song, sung in the mandir, or temple, while “bhoy” is a Scottish and Irish derivation for a young man. There’s a searching quality to Bhajan Bhoy, as if Saggar is still hunting for transcendence with each track, whether through an expansive drone, an orchestral facility on the piano, or an electronics-augmented raga that threatens to dip into noise” (Erick Bradshaw / writer and WFMU DJ). This album presents a rich and varied set of compositions that showcase Saggar’s skills as an incredibly talented and accomplished composer and musician. With each and every Bhajan Bhoy LP, you are are carried to a higher place. With ‘Bhoy On The Wire’, the 35 minutes laid out unfolds like a cosmic tapestry, an extraordinary exploration that shimmers and reverberates with newfound vibrancy. The songs were broadcast as part of a session on Steve Barker’s “On The Wire” radio show in April 2024. They were a gift to Steve and his team for 40 years of broadcasting. “On The Wire” is simply the greatest radio show in the world. As Ajay explains in his own words : “In September 1984, I started a degree course at the University of Lancaster. On a wet and soggy Sunday afternoon towards the end of September, I sat in my room staring out at the grey Lancashire landscape, and decided to alleviate the boredom by seeing if there was anything to listen to on the radio. Most of the stations I tuned into were as dull as the weather outside. However, as I neared the end of the FM dial (and was about to give up hope), I chanced upon a station where I was taken by the music being played. That show was “On The Wire”, introduced by Steve Barker. From there on in, every Sunday, between 2-5pm, I tuned into Radio Lancashire to listen. Steve’s shows had an incredible and wide reaching selection of music and genres, that thrilled your ears and left you wanting more. Tied to that, his deep knowledge of the material he played helped the listener dig into the sounds even more, and also left you in admiration of this trait. In 1985, I started putting on DIY shows in Lancaster (inviting the likes of Bog-Shed, bIG fLAME, The Membranes, The Wedding Present, etc etc) and Steve was kind enough to mention the shows on-air, which helped in getting people from different parts of the county to come to the shows. At the tail-end of 1985, he invited me to the studio to come and hang out. When in 1988, the group I was in, Dandelion Adventure, released our first (demo) cassette, it was Steve, who not only played tracks off it, but invited the group to the studio for an interview. Now if you’re a young band, that is a massive thrill! And in 1990, when Dandelion Adventure did a John Peel session, I actually used “On The Wire” jingles (that Steve had put on a cassette and given to me a few years before) on the track “All the World’s A Lounge”. Since then, the show has been a mainstay for me, and so many others around the world, to get turned onto incredible sounds from around the world. And over the course of 40 years, Steve has always supported my music. These six tracks are a 40th birthday gift to the “On The Wire” team (Steve, Michael “Fenny” Fenton (an absolutely critical part of the show), and Jim Ingham (engineer who keeps the technical side of things going)) for sharing so much amazing music, and making the world a better place. LIMBOY RETURNS WITH EXPLOSIVE SOPHOMORE ALBUM 'II' French Noise-Punk Quartet's New Album Arrives via Stolen Body Records Stolen Body Records announces their newest signing LIMBOY and the release of their sophomore album 'II'. Estrellas de Buena Vista was formed to continue the tradition of Buena Vista Social Club. The band features 16 musicians, including 8 original members of the Buena Vista Social Club. The singers Carlos Calunga and Lazaro Villa are from the new generation, and sparks a fresh energy to the Cuban evergreens. The repertoire will recall the golden age of Cuban music, fusing traditional rhythms and songs with contemporary influences. When the group performs in Cuba, the theaters are full of loving enthusiastic audiences, as can be heard on this live recording. And exactly to transmit this authentic Cuban feeling, the band decided to record one of their shows last year. For this album the band invited special guests, the singers Alain Perez and Mayito Rivera. The group has gained national and international recognition for its virtuosity and for transmitting the joy and vibrant spirit of Cuban music, transporting the listeners to the warmth and contagious rhythm of the island. LIVE IN HAVANA presents classical songs in authentic relation to the live audience.

The Helsinki-based five-piece rock band Us has been winning over British ja Japanese audiences with their unique blend of garage rock, punk, and rhythm 'n' blues. Their explosive live energy and catchy rock songs have been brilliantly captured on their debut album Underground Renaissance, originally released in the fall of 2024. Underground Renaissance is now being released on vinyl by Playground Music sublabel Lördag. In 2024 the band played nine shows at Glastonbury festival in the UK and six shows at Fuji Rock Festival in Japan. During the same year Us also released their debut album Underground Renaissance. The album has received praise from such magazines as Rolling Stone Japan, Mojo Magazine, Shindig! and Classic Rock Magazine. The songs have also enjoyed numerous plays on BBC 6 radio. In live reviews Us has been compared to early Arctic Monkeys and The Hives with Mojo Magazine describing their "blistering 3 AM show" at Glastonbury as "Dr. Feelgood-style punk-blues with the vigour of peak Ramones". In 2024 alone, Us have performed at Eurosonic and Bigpop festival (the Netherlands), Glastonbury (UK), Fuji Rock (Japan), Sziget Festival (Hungary), and Transmusicales (France), as well as headline a run of UK dates.

For Nottingham quartet Divorce, home is a feeling. Initially meeting as teenagers through the city’s close-knit DIY scene, the band – completed by members Tiger Cohen-Towell (vocals / bass), Felix Mackenzie-Barrow (vocals / guitar), Adam Peter Smith (guitar / synth) and Kasper Sandstrøm (drums) - came together as Divorce in mid-2021, releasing a slew of genre-defiant singles that quickly caught the attention of tastemakers the world over. Sonically rich and lyrically open-hearted, 'Drive to Goldenhammer' sees Divorce assemble a shelter for themselves amid the chaos and leave the front door open to everyone. This album pays homage to seeking place and home; one of the great human levellers. Much of life feels at odds with this particular need. And to Goldenhammer; you are a reason to keep driving. HOLY first appeared in late 2014 with the Silver of Your Heart EP and soon followed it with the debut album Stabs to praise from Stereogum, Wondering Sound, The Line of Best Fit, Anton Newcombe and more. After touring the album throughout 2015, including a run in the UK around Liverpool Psych Fest, Hannes Ferm retreated to Studio Cobra in Stockholm to record the follow-up. Over 15 months between April 2016 and May 2017 he recorded All These Worlds Are Yours together with co-producer Martin Ehrencrona (Les Big Byrd, Viagra Boys), and it's a huge step forward. Leaving behind the garage pop leanings of Stabs in favour of a sound infused by the early '70s, melding Ziggy Stardust era David Bowie with Brian Eno-esque art pop and more modern psych pop in the vein Ariel Pink, it's a truly standout record. A first taste arrived with the "premonition" 7" in September, alongside a short run of UK dates. HOLY will be touring the UK in February again alongside European showcase festivals and headlines shows throughout the spring.

I Was A King. For nearly 20 years they have been a warm beating heart in Norwegian music scene, reliable suppliers of perfect pop and sonic happiness. Led by Anne Lise Frøkedal and Frode Strømstad, they have come with infectious melodic strength and rich harmonies. The formula has been a classic four-piece approach to the music. Their music has been widely acclaimed by critics in Norway, as well as in the US and UK. While perpetuating the legacy of icons like The Byrds, Big Star, Teenage Fanclub and even My Bloody Valentine, they keep playing by their own rules on each release, combining music history with a modern perspective.

"Best Wishes - A Shortcut to I Was a King" collects highlights from their rich catalog, on wich they have collaborated with international figures such as Sufjan Stevens, Robyn Hitchcock and Norman Blake (Teenage Fanclub) to name a few.

A valentine for black hearts! An electric array of magic sounds! The shock return of a missing legend! The surprise formation of HOUSE Of ALL by five former members of The Fall was bound to provide some pleasant surprises, not the least of which being the creation of an identity distinct from that of any specific Fall line-up, and here the band offer an steep evolution of sound of their two previous albums . . . darker, more elliptic and can we say it? A more mystical sum of talents than most groups ever manage. They've kept their open door policy to former members of The Fall and expanded it. Phil Lewis, who's stepped in live for Pete Greenway, makes his studio debut, and the long-lost Karl Burns has emerged from his mystery lair to add a third set of drums to the line-up . . . besting The Glitter Band by 50%! How this will work live has yet to be determined, but the band has already scheduled dates in Spring, 2025. House Of All Souls is somewhat more psychedelic than its predecessors, and despite seven players, each with his own particular style, the songs and production are shockingly cohesive. From the breakneck pace of first tune, Tempest And Storm to the superb album closer, Born At Dawn And Dead At Sunset, there's quite a lot to unpack - it's an album-lover's album, each track magnificent in its own way and impossible for us to pick a fave from the lot of 'em. Plenty has been written about The Fall, whose 50th birthday is just a few years off, but rare is the group with an equally perverse and persuasive influence in that period. When HOUSE Of ALL debuted, Martin Bramah remarked on it being "part of the Fall family continuum" - a matter of actual fact, given the pedigree of its members. With this, HOUSE Of ALL's third full-length album, it's proven fact that the bright lights of those multiple talents behind the band have yet to dim.

"Formed by Brandon Hagen (guitar, vocals) and Drew McDonald (drums), and later joined by Zack Abramo (bass), Vundabar have always been imbued with a fiercely independent spirit, their sound forged in mythical underground Brooklyn venues such as Silent Barn and Shea Stadium. Musically, they exist almost as a fever dream of many genres, melding arty post-punk, tangled math-rock, sun-dappled surf-guitar, shimmering jangle-pop and grunge scuzz into sharp, compact songs. Across six albums the band have netted them a wide fan base and a reputation for a killer live show, not to mention a platinum record for their song 'Alien Blues'. "

First LP in the ‘Signature Series’, a small new series in the Metaphon catalog, documenting previously unreleased archive works of less known composers. Metaphon presents their ‘signature’ in the most personal and elementary way.

Raoul De Smet (1936), mainly known for his numerous instrumental and chamber music works, started composing in the early 1960’s. Between 1974 and 1989 he also recorded several electro-acoustic compositions at the IPEM in Ghent, one of the more approachable crossroads for experimental music creation at the time. His work carries different moods and contrasts, a sort of expressive eclecticism where straight forward evolution often prevails over far-fetched intemperance. However, his work is far from obvious. The four distinctive tracks on this album portray a fresh and unpretentious enthusiasm of a composer discovering new electronic tools.

A reggae cover of Marvin Gaye's '60s soul classic and The Police's '80s hit!

Australia's reggae dub unit, Springtones, has reimagined two massive hits from Marvin Gaye and The Police through the lens of reggae fusion and dubwise, now released on a 7-inch vinyl!

Side A features a dubby and masterful cover of Marvin Gaye's 1967 soul classic, "I Heard It Through The Grapevine," with vocals by Gayl, brought to life by the Springtones. Side B showcases "Walking On The Moon," The Police's 1979 smash hit, covered by drummer Dubbin' Darryl?renowned for his unique reggae sound infused with funky soul?alongside the Springtones and Jamaican vocalist Noya. This track blends dubbed-out horns, deep electro basslines, and Noya's ethereal vocals in perfect harmony. The artwork, which pays homage to the Japanese edition of Marvin Gaye's singles, is also a must-see!

Tuning the Wind was created in 2022 as an installation piece. Since then, it has been adapted into multichannel, 4DSOUND, and stereo installations, as well as performed live on numerous occasions around the world. The piece has a duration of 36 minutes and 15 seconds. For the vinyl pressing, it has been divided into two parts.

Composer Aimée Portioli, known professionally as Grand River, recorded various types of wind and then reworked them through layering and pitch adjustment to create a musical piece where the wind itself becomes a prepared instrument. At times, the sound of the wind is tuned to the 440 Hz reference, while at other times, the instruments are tuned to the sound of the wind. In Tuning the Wind, nature and music merge seamlessly. Synthesizers and wind recordings become indistinguishable, blending natural sounds with human-made instruments. The boundary between a gust of wind and an instrument-generated sound fades away. Human artistry and nature’s symphony merge to become one.

Wind is air in motion. It makes no sound until it encounters an object. The sounds it produces depend on the strength of the wind and the shape and material of the object it touches. When the wind blows, trees sway, buildings rattle, materials move, and sound waves are generated. Some believe that temperature changes create layers of air, and that the friction between them forms a unique sound—perhaps the true voice of the wind, which birds may be the only creatures capable of recognising. Sometimes the wind howls; at other times, it sings or whistles, shifting from a gentle murmur to an angry roar. The wind’s range of frequencies, tones, and timbres is vast and varied. Tuning the Wind is a piece about the wind, made with the wind—an abstract expression of our ongoing conversation with nature.

11th press limited to 500 copies on brown vinyl. - The early Lorenzo `Baby' Woodrose/Uffe Lorenzen with mates from ON TRIAL! - When released in 2013 the Spids Nogenhat album Kommer Med Fred (roughly translated to We Come In Peace) no one could know it would turn into the most popular release on Bad Afro Records in many years. But it did. The band became very popular in Denmark winning two Danish Music Awards (Grammies) for Best live band of the year and Best Rock album of the year and playing sold out shows. They also received two Steppeulven (the association of critics at the Danish newspapers) awards for Best band of the year and Best Live band of the year. Spids Nogenhat have their own take on how psychedelic rock should sound and are deeply rooted in Danish acid rock of the early 70's that somehow had a special sound compared to what was happening in the rest of the world at the time. The band is featuring members of Baby Woodrose, On Trial, Dragontears and Vilde Græs. - Oh yes, Spids Nogenhat means liberty cap - the most potent mushroom in this part of the world.

‘The Pattern Speaks’ is the debut album from Austin via Glasgow space-gaze duo SKLOSS, blending heavy
psychedelia, post-metal drones, meditative drums, and raw distorted riffs performed with honesty and
deliberation. Across these eight equally pulverising and ethereal tracks, the result is a powerful,
atmospheric and reverberating wall of sound that indulges SKLOSS’ heaviest and gentlest sonic impulses
all at once.

Recorded in 1957, this remarkable collaboration pairs Thelonious Monk’s angular piano style with Gerry Mulligan’s warm baritone saxophone. Backed by Wilbur Ware on bass and Shadow Wilson on drums, the quartet strikes a unique balance between Monk’s unpredictable harmonies and Mulligan’s melodic fluidity. Tracks like “Round Midnight” and “Straight, No Chaser” showcase their contrasting yet complementary approaches, blending complexity with swing. The interplay between Monk’s percussive chords and Mulligan’s smooth phrasing creates a dynamic, compelling listening experience. A jazz dialogue to savor.

The holy grail of De La Soul albums, it was released in 1994 exclusively as a promotional item to A- list DJs. It features four tracks from the group's Buhloone Mindstate album and two unreleased tracks - "sh.Fe.Mc's" featuring A Tribe Called Quest and "Stix & Stonz" featuring The Fearless Four, Grandmaster Caz, and Prince Whipper Whip.

While only 500 copies were pressed of the original, this legendary collector's item is now available as a limited edition release.

Elephant's Memory is the 1969 eponymous album by the American rock band from New York. They are primarily known for backing John Lennon and Yoko Ono. For live performances with Lennon and Ono, they were also known as the Plastic Ono Elephant's Memory Band. Before working together with Lennon and Ono, the band already worked on three albums. Two of their songs, "Jungle Gym at the Zoo" and "Old Man Willow", appeared on the soundtrack of the 1969 film Midnight Cowboy. The band's style can be described as psychedelic rock. Elephant's Memory is available as a limited edition of 750 numbered copies on purple coloured vinyl

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is a 2000 wuxia film directed by Ang Lee. Taking place in 18th-century Qing dynasty China, the story revolves around a warrior who gives his sword, Green Destiny, to his lover to deliver to safe keeping, but it is stolen, and the chase is on to retrieve it. The film was praised for its story, direction, and cinematography, and for its martial arts sequences. It won the Academy Award and Golden Globe Award for Best Foreign Language Film. The score was composed by Tan Dun, containing many solo passages for cello by Yo-Yo Ma. The track “A Love Before Time” features Coco Lee. This album is released as a limited edition of 750 copies on translucent red vinyl.

Sopa Boba is a Belgian-Dutch electronic, modern classical project. The idea behind the form is a so-called Oratorio from the present age which unfolds a dramatc tale within a sociopolitcal framework. The compositons incorporate a neo-classical style string quartet, harsh modular sytnhs and spoken word vocals. It features Pavel Tchikov (Ogives) and G.W. Sok (The Ex, Oiseaux-Tempête).

That Moment is an adaptation of the eponymous text by Moldavian writer Nicola Esinencu. The starting point of That Moment takes place in a real fact, which happened in present-time Moldavia, where a father cut his son's finger with an axe, as a punishment for stealing a bit ofmoney from the father's wallet. From there the author combines the tale and its reality with a caustic irony, interrogating an unbridled capitalist society, where everything and everyone is for sale. The total playing-tme is 55 minutes, somewhere in between a hybrid electronic - modern classical oratorio and a concept album, with seven tracks that serve as seven chapters of an ironic and satiric story about the downward spiral of the capitalist society.

Metaphon is thrilled to present this collection of 14 phenomenal electronic and electro-acoustic works by French composer Fernand Vandenbogaerde, realized between 1967 and 1984.

After his science studies Fernand Vandenbogaerde (1946) studied at the Conservatoire de Roubaix and did various classes and courses with a.o. Jean-Etienne Marie, Olivier Messiaen, Pierre Schaeffer, György Ligeti, Karlheinz Stockhausen and Bruno Maderna. He wrote analytical essays on mathematic music, in particular the work of Iannis Xenakis. Vandenbogaerde taught electro-acoustic music at various institutions and was director at the National School of Music and Dance in Blanc-Mesnil, near Paris. As a composer he wrote works for orchestra, instrumental and chamber ensembles, sometimes in hybrid form including tape and electro-acoustic configurations. He also recorded numerous tape compositions in Bourges, Paris, Ghent and at his home studio. His works have been presented worldwide on various leading festivals and events.

The compositions included in this edition are primarily tape works, meticulously recorded and produced, radical and most of all timbre oriented which makes his compositions focus mainly on sound while other parameters hardly change. In Vandenbogaerde’s own words: “What determines my pieces, at least all the ones in this collection, is that it’s the material that dictates me, that will predetermine the form”. This particular approach distinguishes him quite a bit from many of his contemporaries within the field of electro-acoustic music.

Another interesting aspect in Vandenbogaerde’s work is the integration of micro tonal scales (conceived by Mexican composer Julian Carrillo), on the compositions 'Modifications III' and the intriguing trilogy 'Drei Nachdenken über Hymnen an die Nacht'. All tracks are previously unreleased except the proto power electronics piece 'Anschlag' which was self-released in 1971 on his own Point Radiant label, as a compilation LP which also included a track by Tristan Murail.

When Tjinder and Bubbley decided to work with each other, she had not recorded a note of music. They had met very fleetingly, years ago at a cellar gathering in Preston Lancashire, where Tjinder & Benedict studied. So it was much surprise when a taxi driver friend introduced him to a lady that liked singing, worked in a local launderette, and was the same lady he had met in a northern cellar bar. They then met a good many times at Tjinder’s house where they would listen to and discuss traditional Punjabi Folk Music, and slowly Bubbley came out writing her own original lyrics, which were set to a varied range of modern musics. ‘Natch’ was the first song she recorded, followed by ‘Topknot,’ and together they became the first double ‘A’ single on Rough Trade Records. The complete recordings were made in their own good time. Tjinder explains “There was no need to quickly put the album out, but there was a need to make it top rank and evergreen, especially as I have wanted to do an album like this for 20 years.” Benedict & Tjinder set up their own label, Ample Play in 2009 to release the highly acclaimed album ‘Judy Sucks A Lemon For Breakfast.’ The way Tjinder & Bubbley met was like a hindi movie script, and the outcome of the music is like an Asian version of The Kids From Fame – totally upbeat, giving rise to new ways of expressing yourself.

Red Motorbike maestro Eddie C drops on the ensemble with an anthemic ode to the most sought-after of desires. We’ve been keeping this secret for far too long; it’s time to bring U Be Mine into the light, complete with remixes from Lex, Da Silva and Marcello Giordani aka Italo Deviance.
It was just over a year ago when Eddie sent us his original demo of U Be Mine. I remember plugging i the speakers in my fat, pressing play. A fash from a place of love that wet, grey day. The lyrical bass, euphoric stabs, the iconic delay, the pining vox. There are times where things seem naturally bound, designed to intertwine. An instant essential. We couldn’t wait to throw it down in the disco. Much like the coveted desire of its vocoder-clad protaganist, we needed a club-ready fx. Eddie, getting the message, sent us over a quick master - the Eddie C ‘Cash’ Version. Over the next year, at parties from Lisbon to Ibiza, I saw how those swirling arps locked onto the foor, how dancers cosied up to its decadent groove. It was peak time, warm-up and wind-down at once. In the true spirit of the ensemble, we got to work curating a cast of balearic technicians to write their distinct shade of depth onto Eddie’s golden letter. And that’s where it lands.

All are graced with the quietly self-assured elegance of Anne's playing, with sounds ranging from the breezy 'Clea Caught A Rabbit' to the terrible beauty of 'Wishing Well' - each song typifying the bouzouki or guitar style. To say that Anne was an accomplished picker is to do her something of an disservice - the intricacy of her finger-work rivals - and more often than not eclipses - any number of her contemporaries.

Horse Records und ist Tenchs wahrer Einstand als Singer-Songwriter, ohne Kompromisse oder Zweifel. Es
wurde von Jonathan Wilson produziert – einem gefeierten Singer-Songwriter und Tourgitarristen von Roger
Waters, der an karrierebestimmenden Alben für Dawes, Father John Misty und Margo Price gearbeitet hat.
Die Kern-Studioband des Albums bestand unter anderem aus Taylor Goldsmith von Dawes an der Gitarre,
Sebastian Steinberg von Soul Coughing am Bass und Wilson am Schlagzeug, mit Beiträgen von Jenny O.
und Sara Watkins. Tench „könnte nicht glücklicher sein“, ein Zuhause für The Melancholy Season bei

This album, recorded in 1957, brings together a dream team of jazz musicians. The singer, with her rich tone and soulful inflections, is supported by top-tier players. Sonny Rollins on tenor saxophone delivers exquisitely refined solos, while Max Roach on drums provides subtle yet impactful rhythms. Paul Chambers on bass and Wynton Kel1ly on piano offer impeccable harmonic support. Between poignant ballads and more upbeat tracks, each piece is a gem.

The Nocturne is one of the most popular and beloved forms of music. Yet, many of us today do not know the name of its creator: John Field. 2025 marks the return of Cologne-based electronic outfit Urban Homes with their first new music in over eight years, following an unintentional hiatus driven by side projects, relocations, the pandemic, and the unpredictability of »life.« After over eight years, the duo is back with their first new material: a fresh batch of purely instrumental downtempo and dub-influenced tracks, marked by a somber and atmospheric vibe that distinctly separates this new material from their previous work. Inspired by themes of extraterrestrial life and the paranormal, the four new tracks compiled on the »U.F.O.« EP release were crafted during recording sessions split between Cologne and Berlin before languishing for years on neglected hard drives, finally »ripening« into their current form.

Formed in 2008, Urban Homes initially emerged as a post-punk group, debuting live in 2009. Their first release—a four-track demo tape recorded in late 2010—already hinted at an evolving sound that would soon embrace a more experimental and electronic direction. By 2011, the band swapped their live drums for a drum machine, a shift that would profoundly shape their sound in the years to follow. Over the years, Urban Homes has explored a broad sonic landscape, merging electronic production, rhythm-driven compositions, and experimental song structures. Drawing influences from early house, balearic, disco, dub, avant-garde electronica, and pop, their music continues to defy easy categorization.

In March 2013, the duo released their debut album »Centres«, earning the Pop NRW Prize for Best Newcomers that same year. Their 2016 follow-up, »Jams«, was met with critical acclaim. A love letter to dance music's roots, Jams fused pop sensibilities with open-ended experimentation, built from years of MIDI-driven jam sessions that were painstakingly edited and reconstructed. Both released by Altin Village & Mine, »Jams« was also licensed by the Japanese label Fennely / Moorworks for an exclusive CD edition in 2017. Over the years, Urban Homes supported their releases with numerous tours and festival appearances across Germany and a memorable tour of Japan in 2017.

Sub Oscillator AKA Russ Gabriel has been part of the UK dance music scene since 1992, spanning everything from Breakbeat, Hardcore, Techno, Electro, House, Acid, Broken Beat and Ambient. But his first releases were under the guise of Sub Oscillator, releasing 3 EPs during 1992.

This is EP 2 that was originally released on Stu J’s Adrenalin Recordings out of Southampton and was dropped frequently at the legendary Madisons club in Bournemouth, where Stu was the resident DJ.

The most collectable of the 3 EPs under this name, it brings together the sounds of the hardcore rave scene, breakbeat and even some proper hardstyle Euro techno vibes too.

A very UK response to the year-zero schrantz death-trips of DJ Valentime$, DJ Salazar et al. Simultaneously ultra-alienated and dialled into the dance, full of caustic/entropic industrial textures, drawing deep too on concussive reggae/soundystem dynamics and drill’s emotional-badboy yearning.

"I imagine that one of the first things I heard in the world was the
explosion of a Russian ammunitions factory on the outskirts of my
hometown. It blew up the night I was born a new GDR-citizen. I´m not
sure I heard a noise when the Wall came down, but it still echoes in my
body. The echo contains many frequencies. Some of them sound like Gabber
playing in my childhood room over the speakers my grandfather once stole
from a Leipzig radio station. Some of them sound like me and my friends
running through the streets. They sound like my mother laughing and
consoling women in the women´s shelter where she worked in 1992. They
sound like birds: my father swears after the Reunification the great
crested grebes on the town lakes lost all fear of humans. Some of them
sound like these recordings."

In late 2023, Tokyo-based musician, Daigo Sakuragi, temporarily relocated to London, where he revisited material recorded with fellow Japanese musicians in Tokyo, drawing inspiration from the city’s energy, music, and atmosphere. This new perspective culminated in Togenkyo, a 28-minute work blending early 2000s folktronica and contemporary ambient styles. Sakuragi crafts immersive sonic textures with synthesisers and spatial production, while the organic groove of drums and bass anchors the piece, subtly inviting physical movement. Floating above this foundation, the saxophone weaves through the soundscape, leading the music with an elegant yet exploratory presence.

The session took place at aLive recording studio in Tokyo, with the following personnel:

The lineup reflects a network of notable Japanese artists: Ichikawa, Sakuragi’s longtime collaborator in D.A.N.; Ikeda, known for his work with Maya Ongaku; and Ooi, a drummer for yahyel.

Sakuragi is best known for his band project D.A.N., where he contributes vocals, guitar, and production alongside bassist Jinya Ichikawa and drummer Teru Kawakami. Since its formation in 2014, D.A.N. has gained recognition for their unique fusion of indie rock/pop, dub, and electronic music. Under his solo moniker Daigos, Sakuragi explores electronic dance music through DJing and production, experimenting with Eurorack modules and samples in a refined, microscopic aesthetic. Recently, his creative output has expanded into diverse fields, including advertisements, artist collaborations, and films.

The term Togenkyo resonates with the concept of utopia, yet it diverges—it does not symbolise a flawless paradise but rather an attainable state of peace within oneself. Sakuragi reflects on finding his own Togenkyo in London, far from his hometown of Tokyo. The EP brings a sense of comfort and calm, reminding listeners that such a space exists not far from reach.

Baby Rose makes healing music for the aimless and heartbroken. The Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter and producer's uniquely rich voice naturally lends itself to her powerful, smoke-filled ballads lamenting lost loves and broken futures. "I make music to help myself get through things," she says. The piercing honesty and vulnerability she brings to her lyrics in turn helps others process their feelings and find a place of healing. For Rose, it's a journey that's still ongoing. "If I'm going to leave anything behind, it's going to be getting people back to themselves," she says. "As I get back to myself, it's a constant reset: Remember who you are, remember who you want to be." You can hear the impact of this approach in Baby Rose's upcoming second album, Through and Through. Take the hypnotic "Fight Club." Over the track's simmering baseline and crashing cymbals, she declares, "I don't need no one else to show me the way." She describes the song as a "breaking of the shell. It encourages me to just go for it and not care about what anyone else thinks." Therein lies Baby Rose's strength: a determination to live, love, and create on her own terms. "I'm not just a singer with a unique voice," she says. "I'm somebody that has something to say." In the years since releasing her last album, To Myself, Rose has been painstakingly piecing together its sequel. Started almost immediately after its release, her new body of work finds her in a state of musical and personal transition. It's a subtle merging of new sounds_stirring rock, upbeat r&b, psychedelic funk, pop, and soulful ballads_, all mastered through analog tape to make the music feel warmer and all-encompassing. It's also a journey inward as she battles past fear and self-doubt to finally discover_and love_who she is, where she is. Finishing an album with such peace and firm resolution is a first for Rose, but she makes it clear: She's nowhere near done writing her story. "I think as long as I'm being raw and trying to push past my comfort zone, it will feel rewarding," she says. "I don't want to be the type that doesn't take risks because I'm afraid. I have to trust that as long as the music is honest and innovative, it'll be timeless."

Eine erweiterte Version des Albums erschien unter dem Titel "Yearbook 1" auf CD und erreichte Platz 23 der Pitchfork-Jahresliste der Top-Alben des Jahres 2007. hin zur Radiosession der Part Time Punks, die sie selbst auf einer EP veröffentlicht haben (und die auch als GedenkVinylsingle für die 30-Jahr-Jubiläumstour in Japan für ihr Album „Lovely“ herauskam). Und natürlich gibt es unzählige
Singles, Maxis, Vinyls und andere Songs (wie dieses Juwel für das Weihnachtsalbum, das wir 2012 herausgebracht
haben), die bei Elefant Records erschienen sind.

The official re-release of this 1968 Garage grail in direct collaboration with lead signer & songwriter for The Outcasts, Al Collinsworth. As featured on DJ Shadow & Cut Chemist's 'Product Placement', this 45 has remained an iconic anthem across various scenes. We're honoured to contribute to The Outcasts legacy, showcasing their single close to 50 years since it was originally released.

In the words of Al:

'In the spring of 1968, I wrote the song 'Loving You Sometimes' and recorded it with a young group from Ashland, KY called The Outcasts. The group included Dick Hall, Nick Wickware, Ronnie Gibson, Ralph Morman and I. A local record company, Plato Records from Huntington, WV heard us at a local bar and signed us to a record deal. Queen City Recording Studio located in Cincinnati, Ohio, was our first experience with a multitrack studio in a big city. On the morning of the session, we piled into Nick's van and drove from Ashland to Cincinnati, with most of us sitting on the floor with our gear. When we stepped out of the van, we knew we had started an adventure, one that has lasted nearly half a century.'

The first two volumes (Vintage Synths and Drum Machines & Samplers) focused on vintage electronic instruments from the 1970s and 1980s. Volume three moves into the 21st century, showcasing a selection of the most interesting, impactful, and—arguably—best synthesizers of the past two decades.

The synths in this book celebrate the vast range of sonic possibilities now available to musicians and producers. From analogue wonders to extraordinary digital creations, from tightly designed monosynths to open-ended polyphonic beasts, each one is more marvellous than the last!

Those who are aware of dgoHn will by now be familiar with his sound and those who aren't should be. Back with his third single on Love Love, the drum maestro makes skin prickle once again with two shining original tracks laced with impeccable moments. Only dgoHn can create the kind of drum and bass that sounds like the tightest of ensembles playing meticulously rehearsed arrangements, painting intricate shapes with the percussion.

The title track takes a fresh look at the amen break, finding ways to breathe new life into it. Soaring above the clouds on thick warm pads, the drums thunder with a blissful rage propelled forwards by a rumbling bassline.

On the B-side 'Dooky' serves up a dgoHn masterclass in spatial control that could well be a future-classic of his. A formidable groove with serious punch, hi-hats skip along as the delicate balance of frequencies gives the listener just enough headspace not to get lost in the deep, dark world it creates. A subtle demonstration of tension and release, this single floats like a butterfly and stings like a bee whilst dripping with funk.

Lastly, Rognvald switches up the title track with a jam that triples the edits and doubles the bass, tipping the scales from the side of restraint to that of chaos without losing the feel of the original. Artwork once again provided by Colin 'Snublic' McCallister.
