In November 2023, I played an event in Stockholm, put on by Bojan aka Boj Lucki, who runs a label called Bukva Sound, which I had done a remix for earlier that year. DJ Sofa was also on the lineup with me, as well as someone I had never heard of called Gustav Ejstes.

A lot of people I was talking to at the event and on the day were telling me about Gustav and how much of a spectacle it was that he would be DJing tonight, and explaining about a band he is a part of called Dungen (pronounced Doon-yen) which is very well known & respected in psychedelic rock.

I checked his set out and was very impressed by how confident he was with his vinyl mixing & selection, as well as some of the tracks on digital he was playing that I'd never heard before. I told him afterwards how much I enjoyed his set and he seemed quite happy about that, because he had been a long time vinyl buyer of my music & other releases on Future Retro London.

The day after, Bojan took me & DJ Sofa to meet Gustav at his home & we got to chat with him about music, see his record collection & hear some jungle/hardcore tracks that he had been making. Turns out a lot of the tracks I liked from his set that I'd not recognised were ones that he made!

I thought it'd be really cool to be able to release some of them as he's never put anything out like this & since he's a fan of the label, so I asked if he'd up for it and here we are!

Big thanks to Gustav for the wicked music, his manager Oskar for his co-operation in helping to put his release together, to Bojan for introducing me to Gustav's work & to The Tribes for doing the artwork.

With this release, I think I'll be the only one to have released something from every single one of Kenny's solo jungle aliases!

A few years back, he started on an album project where he would combine the works of 2 of his aliases for his Amiga productions, DJ Mindhunter for the hardcore tracks & Retr0n One of the jungle tracks.

If I remember right, I think the plan was to originally release it on his label Green Bay Wax, but he was too preoccupied in the work being put into other projects of his at the time. The release was then going to be coming out on Parallax Recordings, a label based in Berlin, run by Vali, who I've worked with many times in the past for releases on his label but then Vali was also focused on other releases he had scheduled for his label. The tracks sat in limbo for quite a while, whilst I had been playing some of them on radio & in club sets and eventually, Kenny offered for me to release the tracks on Future Retro London.

I asked Vali if he would be OK with this, since the tracks are meant to come out on Parallax & I also wanted him to do the artwork for it (he does all the artwork for his label). He was unsure if he could do the artwork as his capacity for design was quite taken up by his own outlet, but he floated the idea of doing this release as a joint label project so that it would be a bit more able to fit in with his workload.

And like that, the project is now finally out, after some of the featured tracks having been sat around for many years! Big up to Kenny for his wicked tunes & to Vali for co-releasing this project with me, as well as handling the design.

A 20th anniversary original album featuring new members has been released on a two-disc vinyl set.

Formed in 2005 at the invitation of pianist Makoto Ozone, whose work transcends genres and continues to thrive on a global scale, the 15-member big band
"No Name Horses" has grown into a one-of-a-kind big band, thanks to its sophisticated ensemble built on longstanding relationships of trust, the diverse
original compositions of Ozone and the other members, and its boundless creativity and playfulness. The band has performed both in Japan and overseas.

In 2024, the band changed its name from "Makoto Ozone featuring No Name Horse" to "Makoto Ozone No Name Horse," and began activities under a new
lineup with the addition of three new members: Hidetaro Matsui, Yu Riku, and Shinpei Ogawa. This is the first album since the new lineup was released in
November 2024.

Returning to the classic big band sound, this album was created with each member contributing a new song, based on the concept of a superb swing and resonance.

Two albums from "SATELLITE LOVERS" are finally being reissued!

Two albums from the one-woman, two-man unit "SATELLITE LOVERS" are finally being reissued!
They debuted as an indie band in 1994, creating a buzz with their "Shibuya-kei folky acoustic soul sound." In 1995, they debuted on
Double O Records, a new label within the Sony Music Group. After releasing three albums, they went on hiatus (effectively, only for about a year).
SATELLITE LOVERS' music has been a hit in the US and Canada in recent years!

Drawing from her constant searching for her own unique sound she filters her love of rhythm and groove through her Nordic sensibility to create an accessible, compelling blend of excitement and introspection. Growing up on the island of Saaremaa in her native Estonia, Britta Virves was a keen piano student playing a strictly classical repertoire. A chance encounter introduced her to jazz: "I wanted to learn guitar. So I went to my teacher Tit Paulus, and he told me to stay with piano, and introduced me to Keith Jarrett, Herbie Hancock, Bill Evans - my mind was blown - a new world opened up." Britta immersed herself in the music and her talent soon attracted attention.

Moving to Sweden to further her studies, she was soon touring Europe with the acclaimed Norrbotten Big Band, under the direction of Joakim Milder, working closely with featured guest vocalist Genevieve Artadi and accompanying Artadi on a duo tour opening for Louis Cole. Each tune on the album draws inspiration from an aspect of Britta's own life. "Simple Things" has the directness of a pop song married to the depth of jazz, as Genevieve Artadi's ethereal vocals float over an insistent backbeat that supports limpid depths of harmony.Other tracks include "Bravery", whoch showcases the subtlety and dynamic control of the rhythm team and is one of Britta's favorite tracks on the album - "I feel it's like a big waterfall that's rushing down and making its path just by flowing naturally." British folk horror weirdy film that is also sometimes called Madhouse Mansion or Asylum of
Blood?

So what we have here is a unique and unreleased British horror score like no other - because
Ron Geesin made it and also because he used trad ideas and modern sonic developments at the
same time. So it’s bonkers. Half the pressing will go immediately to the Trunk mailing list, the

Sermon On The Rocks is Josh Ritter's eight studio album, released in 2015. Singles from the album include "Getting Ready To Get Down" and "Homecoming." According to Ritter, the album is "messianic oracular honky-tonk." Produced by Trina Shoemaker and Josh, the 12-song album was recorded over two weeks at New Orleans’ The Parlor Recording Studio and features Matt Barrick from The Walkmen on drums, Zachariah Hickman on bass, Josh Kaufman on guitars, and Sam Kassirer on keyboards. Josh Ritter is the definition of an experienced songwriter. After graduating from Oberlin College in 1999 Ritter devoted his life to a songwriting career, releasing albums independently and garnering word-of-mouth popularity. He eventually caught the attention of Irish- songwriter Glen Hansard (writer of the song 'Falling Slowly' from the movie Once) and was invited to be the tour opener for his band The Frames. This then resulted in Josh gaining international success, with his third record 'Hello Starling', becoming a charting hit in Ireland. His songs have been featured on the TV show Parenthood, and in movies like The Other Woman and Typeface. Josh Ritter has so far released 7 studio albums, is an author, husband, father, and is considered one of the best living songwriters by Paste Magazine.

Live music needs to offer you something that you cannot get on a studio recording. It's the sense of freedom and intimacy, wondering how the songs will be played and what the reaction will be. Live concerts give you the tingle where the hair stands up on the back of your neck. "Live audiences give you the tension and responsibility to be creative, for me that's the challenge I like," says the iconic Dutch guitarist. After all of these years, you ponder what keeps Jan going out there, night after night. "It's my love to play for people all around the world," he smiles. The supremely gifted guitarist is equaled by very few, and his legendary ability makes him impossible to pigeonhole. His position as Dutch royalty has been cemented; he received the Golden Harp Award in early 2005, Holland's most prestigious music prize, and in 2012, he was appointed Knight in the Order of Orange-Nassau. This royal honour recognized his contributions to Dutch music and his influence on musicians worldwide.

Slinging back on the electric guitar, ditching the job, upping the BPMs, and falling in love again has resulted in Pete embracing his fuzzed up dream- pop past but also throwing in elements of pop and electronica.

The first fruits of this new-found labour is a brand new single "LOVE'S COMING BACK" which sums up the ethos for his new project all squeezed into 136 amp-frying seconds. Pete first burst onto the scene in the early 90s as the frontman and guitarist of postshoegaze / pre- Britpop band Adorable, whose 1993 album Against Perfection, released on Creation Records, is regularly referred to as a lost indie classic, with the band picking up multiple 'Single of the Week' awards in the NME, and topping the Indie charts. Noel Gallagher once told Creation Records' Alan McGhee that dropping Adorable from the label was one of his biggest mistakes, whilst other artists such as Ash, Slowdive and Brian Jonestown Massacre amongst others have all expressed their admiration for the band. Following this he joined up with his brother Krzys to form One Little Indian band Polak (Swansongs 2000 / Rubbernecking 2002) which took in influences from the likes of Sparklehorse, Radiohead and dEUS, and led The Independent to call him "the most gifted lyricist since Jarvis Cocker last put pen to paper".

There then followed a musical exile, after having what Pete now describes as 'a musical breakdown' before re-emerging alongside celebrated House of Love guitarist Terry Bickers to release two critically acclaimed albums as Pete Fij / Terry Bickers on 2014's Broken Heart Surgery, and 2017's We Are Millionaires, winning the Roundtable 'Single of The Week' on Steve Lamacq's BBC 6Music show - "Beautiful" (MOJO) "Unfailingly lovely" (UNCUT) "Stunning" (OHM) "Beautifully constructed" (Q). Adorable then reformed for a few weeks in 2019 for a series of one off dates that sold out in record time, playing bigger venues than they did in their heyday - and then broke up again.

Sour Grapes Records piece together the live LP of Nonagon Infinity on vinyl, with tracks made up of their sell outs shows across the years. The album features some of the best and most raucous live outings (Chicago, Barcelona, London) from each of the songs available on the infamous King Gizzard bootlegger series, one of the first of its kind. on the Drums. They have toured in the United Kingdom in 2022 & 2025 and with the public demand; they have performed in the biggest Punk festival “Rebellion” in 2023. In 2022 they also showcased at the famous Le Phoque OFF festival . The same year, they also had a huge impact in Plovdiv in Bulgaria for the Spike Festival and Summerfest in USA. They have also performed in Canadian Festival such as Music 4 Cancer, Canadian Music Week, Rock La Cauze, Festivoix,
Rock Fest pour La Santé Mental, Pouzza Fest and many more. This year their main goal is to connect with the future generation and speak about the importance of self-confidence and that, “it’s okay not to be okay as long
as you keep your head high and still be you”. This goal was well achieved, as the fan base grew. People are seeing why these girls are really the IT factor.

'The creation of the band African Fiesta, founded in 1963 by three well-known musicians, Nicolas Kasanda, Tabu Ley Rochereau and Roger Izeidi, and the contributions of the VITA label, established by Roger Izeidi, occupy an exciting chapter in the history of Congolese popular music. During the mid-1960s, African Fiesta consistently reached the top of the hit parade. The band, which back in the day positioned itself as a competitor to a current called ‘Fiesta Cubana’, breathed new life into Congolese Rumba, continuing the tradition of the African Jazz school started by Joseph Kabasele.
'The VITA label, with African Fiesta as their sole provider, besides four songs of Eduardo De Veracruz Vinagre et Son Orchestre, ran between May 1963 and early 1966. It created a spectacular legacy and back catalog full of tasteful sentiments and sensual melodies, deeply rooted in the Afro-Latin sound.
'This new compilation offers a few of the classic African Fiesta songs and complements them with an eclectic and original selection, divided into four thematic sides: Showcase, Rumba Lingala, Cha Cha Cha & Bolero. This double LP album comes with a 16-page booklet featuring the history of VITA and African Fiesta, song commentary by Congolese journalist Herman Bangi Bayo, and a written catalog of the VITA label. The heirs of Roger Izeidi kindly gave permission in Kinshasa to release this album of African Fiesta on Planet Ilunga.'

The Sound Systems of Jamaica were always the people's radio station.
Tunes were tried and tested in the lion's den of the dance to see which songs rose to the top and became the most popular.
This was the litmus test and the first step to a tracks commercial release to capitalise its hotness on the circuit.
Then the Dub/Version hit big in Jamaica in the early to mid 70's this was also the case and many times the version cut of a track would even prove more popular than its vocal counterpart.

Joel Shearer’s Listening Immerses Itself in Ambient Guitar, Restraint, and the Beauty of Repetition

With guitarist and ambient composer Joel Shearer’s new album, Listening, he took the path of repetition, subtle movement, and pure sound rather than conventional songwriting. What began as a disciplined experiment — limiting himself to just electric guitar — soon expanded. At various points, he introduced piano, cello, and trumpet, allowing the record to evolve organically. "I didn’t know I was making another record,” Shearer says. “I was experimenting, wanting to do something beyond just the electric guitar. So, I started these other tracks, and that’s how Listening came about.”

Unlike albums built around hooks or dramatic shifts, Listening unfolds gradually, moving with patience and restraint. There are no choruses, no obvious climaxes — just sound evolving over time. “Instead of a traditional song structure with a verse, chorus, or B section, it’s one continuous movement that grows and dissolves,” Shearer explains. “It’s not about anticipating the next moment—it’s about sitting inside the sound, getting comfortable with patience.” A Topanga-based session musician, composer, and producer, Shearer’s previous solo albums, Morning Loops and Hours, explored the manipulation of only the electric guitar, using texture and repetition to push beyond conventions. Listening continues that journey, offering music that resists distraction and rewards deep attention.

Shearer recorded Listening without a click track, working in long, freeform takes. His shimmering, clean guitar tones—often unrecognizable, processed through looping pedals and effects—became a foundation, with layers of sound building around it. “I love making the guitar sound like anything but a guitar,” he says. “I might play for just a minute, but once the sound enters the effects chain, it takes on a life of its own. The music keeps evolving, stretching time in ways I couldn’t predict.”

The opening piece, “Big Sur,” is an 11-minute meditation that drifts in slow, hypnotic waves, its layered guitar textures sparkling like light over water. The piece moves without urgency, subtly transforming as it pulls the listener deeper into its atmosphere. “Threshold” features a delicate piano melody that gradually unfurls, allowing its essence to fully settle before the next emerges. Subtle layers of ambient guitar weave around the piano, stretching and dissolving into the background, creating a sense of stillness and slow expansion.

At nearly 15-minutes, “The Clear Light of the Void” is a slow-burning study in sustain and resonance. Layers of guitar stretch and dissolve into an open, drifting soundscape, each note lingering and shifting like a breath held in suspension. Subtle tonal variations emerge over time, creating a sense of vastness—an expanse where sound is less about movement and more about presence.

“The world is noisy—so much information, so much distraction,” Shearer says. “I wanted to create something that allows people to just be present with the sound, without expectation.” It’s an album that demands nothing from the listener but offers space — to focus, to drift, to listen without waiting for what comes next.

Diese neue Ausgabe und erste Vinyl-Neuauflage überhaupt von "Nancy" feiert eine der am wenigsten bekannten Phasen der verehrten Künstlerin. Nach drei Jahren im Rampenlicht und an der Spitze der Popmusik war Nancy Sinatra plötzlich in einer unerwarteten, aber irgendwie vertrauten Situation - ähnlich wie Anfang 1965. Sie war wieder einmal ohne Produzenten, ohne neue Songs und kämpfte darum, bei ihrem Label zu bleiben. Kill Them With Kindness is the 18th album from Beans on Toast, recorded at Greenmount Studios in Leeds with The Beans on Toast Band, a collection of musical friends he handpicked from the UK music scene a few years back.

"We've done a few tours together, but this was our first venture into a studio. Each one of them is amazing, and together... well, I'm proper chuffed with how it sounds. Have a listen for yourself," says Beans.

This album is a bit of a juxtaposition, as is the title. "There are songs that deal with the current state of the world: wars, maniac leaders, the rise of AI and the fall of the establishment. Then there are songs about trees, late nights in music venues, art, love and my new cat. As usual, it's a time stamp of my thoughts and feelings from the past year on planet Earth."

'Use Me Again' is Tom Trago's evergreen club classic. Originally released at the start of 2010 it became a staple track in many a DJ set. The track is based around an infectious loop in true disco spirit. It lights up every dancefloor its been played to - and still does.

Carl Craig has been one of the track's biggest fans ever since it came out, playing it out in almost every set at a certain point. For this release he came up with a typical c2 re-tweak. Big one!

Transparent Purple vinyl. Sometime in 2005, a lone box of master tapes escaped an estate sale and made its way through a network of collectors, record dealers, and "junkers" into the hands of leading Ohio soul expert Dante Carfagna, who linked them to Columbus, Ohio's mysterious Prix label (See: Eccentric Soul: The Prix Label). A bit of research turned up Prix proprietor George Beter, who identified most of the unlabeled material. All it took was an endless series of phone calls and letters and two fields trips in Columbus. But one complete mystery wended its way onto our final Prix compilation. "You and Me," a simple but irrepressible demo credited only to Penny & the Quarters, was found tacked onto a mixed studio reel. Our survey of every willing lifer left on the Columbus soul scene, including retired DJs, producers, and important local artists, produced not so much as a glimmer of recognition at the name Penny & the Quarters. Though we loved the song from the first play, it may've ended up a bit buried on our original compilation, as #18 of 19 tracks.Four years later, Eccentric Soul: The Prix Label hadn't exactly become a huge seller, although listeners had repeatedly told us that the unfiltered studio demos that fill out the record's back half were true diamonds in the rough. But neither Penny nor her Quarters had appeared to claim credit for their efforts. Then, completely out of left field, we heard from respected screen actor and avowed Numero fan Ryan Gosling that Penny's piercing bit of stripped down doo-wop was being considered for inclusion in Derek Cianfrance's indie-weeper film Blue Valentine. What we didn't know was that "You and Me" had won a major role in what became an indie circuit hit, and that Penny & the Quarters would instantly assume the role of world's most famous unknown doo-wop group.Every week is a slow news week in Columbus, Ohio, and early January 2011 found the city recovering from the thrill of elevating Ted Williams_the formerly homeless guy with the awesome voice for radio_into a national news sensation. But both major daily newspapers in town, as well as the city's alternative weekly, also ran stories about how a lost and unknown Columbus soul group had become the musical centerpiece of a film already garnering Oscar buzz. That mainstream spotlight aimed at Blue Valentine and Penny & the Quarters did the trick: we finally made contact with the widow of Jay Robinson, lead Quarters' singer and songwriter. Robinson, it turned out, had also been the leader of Columbus doo-wop pioneers The Supremes (later known as "The Columbus Supremes," for reasons which should be obvious). Jay Robinson never did give up on the dream of writing a hit record; even so, the posthumous realization of his dream is cold comfort for his widow and daughter. With their blessings, we returned to those estate sale masters and pulled down another neglected track ("You Are Giving Me Some Other Love") from the still-unknown Penny and her now-partly-known Quarters. "You and Me" is a song that could not be suppressed: not when Prix failed to release it; not when Penny & the Quarters were forgotten; not when Numero stuck it at the bitter end of a much overlooked compilation. Its evolution from estate sale trash to silver-screen gold has finally returned it to big-hole 45, where it probably should have lived all along.

When Dinosaur Jr. reunited, more than 20 years after their formation and legendary dissolution, the worry was that these guys were just flogging the back catalog, taking the old show on the road as a marketing gimmick. But the 2007 release of Beyond gave a hearty Marshall-driven "F**K YOU!" answer to those inquiring ears. Restoring the sound established by the unassailable hat-trick gambit of their first three albums -- Dinosaur, You're Living All Over Me, and Bug -- Beyond continued the band's march into rock greatness by making old ears smile and new ears bleed afresh. And then came Farm, the 9th full length record by the original line-up: J Mascis, Lou Barlow, and Murph. If Beyond was Dinosaur Jr.'s return to form, Farm is proof that Dinosaur Jr. could (and still do, to this day!) deliver timeless, exhilarating rock music. Farm encompasses Dinosaur Jr.'s signature palette: soaring and distorted guitar, unshakable hooks, honey-rich melodies. At times wholly 70's guitar-epic, at times perfect for sitting by a babbling brook with Joni and Neil, these songs get into your head and stay there, bouncing happily around. The ear-catching "Plans" is nearly seven minutes of classic whipped-topping rock dessert, while "I Don't Wanna Go There" is a meat-and-potatoes main dish, mixing unapologetic lead guitar with straight-ahead delivery a la James Gang or Humble Pie. This expanded deluxe edition of Farm features four songs never pressed to vinyl and never given worldwide release:"Houses", "Whenever You're Ready" (The Zombies Cover), "Creepies" (Instrumental), and "Show". "Whenever You're Ready", a cover of classic pop-rockers The Zombies, is impossibly good for a hidden gem; Murph stomps in with a sledgehammer to the kit, J and Lou layer low-end and fuzz like two halves of one brain, and right when things feel biggest, airy and colossal, there's J with a lightning bolt of a guitar solo. Pure electricity and melody like only he can make. Recorded in J Mascis' Bisquiteen studio in Amherst, Massachusetts, Farm was produced by Mascis himself, and delivers the singular, unique energy of one of America's greatest living rock bands.

Comprising of sisters Eva and Grace Tedeschi, The Cords are the brightest new indiepop band from Scotland and this is theri debut. Following the success of 1998's Whitey Ford Sings the Blue, Eat at Whitey's finds him beefing up his sound as well as bringing in big names, such as N'dea Davenport (who adds her vocals on the sexy, R&B- flavored "Love for Real"), Goodie Mob's Cee- Lo, Cypress Hill's B Real, and Carlos Santana, for whom Everlast penned the Grammywinning "Put Your Lights On." Everlast is still fixated on redemption and regret, but his intensity and passion make up for the narrow focus, as, guitar in hand, he conjures up a nocturnal, sultry world populated with saints, sinners, and homeboys.

DJ Vibe, widely regarded as one of Portugal’s most influential and sought-after DJs, has played a pivotal role in shaping the country’s electronic music scene. Not only has he been instrumental in launching some of Portugal's most iconic clubs, but he is also behind some of the biggest anthems in the scene, such as “So Get Up” and “Dance With Me,” both released in 1994 on Kaos Records and Tribal America. In 1979, Johnny Thunders, renowned Heartbreakers and New York Dolls guitarist, teamed up with Wayne Kramer, the legendary guitarist of Detroit"s seminal MC5, to form "GANG WAR" - an alliance that lasted the best part of a year. Johnny had just released his So Alone album, and Wayne was not long out of jail after serving two of four years for a coke bust. Although Gang War released no records and were without a label - at the time they were an underground act - in retrospect the collaboration is looked on as a "rock fantasy" supergroup. These live Toronto, Boston & New York recordings bear testimony to this unique partnership between two celebrated rock guitar icons.

It's hazy and cinematic, makes you think of Italian electronic pioneers and their library magic, Patrick Cowley's School Daze and Haruomi Hosono in some kind of gothic manner. It's quite stripped and lush at the same time, rhythms like minimal mechanics make you fly above the river and land just outside reality. It's a nice place where soft jazz tingles right around the dark corner, and that particular mix of exotica and melancholia — the trademark of this port city's best electronic auteurs is definitely in the air. The river still shines, but she’s deeply poisoned. The old town has lost every bit of fresh air but keeps on digging for old gold. This bitter pill is served with delicacy and lightness, the wound is dressed up seductively — feet in the mud, head in the air. Stuff is sensuous, with quiet places reminding of the good side of those times when the big wheel stopped turning ever so madly. A strange quietness whistles through the leaves. Four years in the making, this is the solo debut LP of Simon B, a longtime contributor to Antwerp's improvised music scene (Groovecats Deluxe, Wij Blij Trio ). Primarily a double bass player, he also has a deep-felt passion for offbeat electronica and the rainbowy side of American minimalism, which takes front here. The smoky voice on the last track belongs to Nina-Joy Thielemans, Nina-Joy is part of Particals, a trio working with live electronics and field recordings, releasing an lp on Ultra Eczema later this year. Furthermore, you can hear the tenor and soprano saxophone of Adia Van Heerentals on 4 tracks, deepening out Simon's naturally flowing compositions and playing around with his melodies. You may know her from Bodem and her strong presence in the Belgian jazz scene lately.

Simon's electroacoustic experiments — using a clarinet and some outboard effects — were important tools in finding the very specific colour of this record. There's this airy character, like wind blowing through old layers of bricks and over the river, anchored with a deep sense of bass, gathering ages of dust and memories in these eight elegantly wobbling tracks, forming a perfect whole that’s really coming together in one deep listening from A to Z.

The centrepiece is perhaps Come to Me, instrumental and reprise with vocals, but no fillers on this one. Every part of the mystery is needed to come to its end and back again. It's a record that works in the morning, to open up a day and in the quiet corners of the night, with it's sleazy quirkiness, smiling towards you from the right corner of the eye. A perfect compagnon for your long-form wandering habits, light reflections on a wet surface obsessions, coffee slurping in the morning and the forgotten art of beachcombing. South London’s Jerkcurb – aka Jacob Read – is back with news that his sophomore album ‘Night Fishing On A Calm Lake’ is to be released at the end of November following 2019’s ‘Air Con Eden’.

After that album’s successful release Read had planned to expand Jerkcurb into a full band setup when his father, a painter like himself and a creative inspiration, passed away. Instead of the envisioned plan of taking his project bigger Read returned to the family home and re-examined the material for the new album and instead the album became one of reflection, grief and redemption. It’s not much of a stretch to see clear musical inspirations for the record too – Prefab Sprout, Talk Talk and The Blue Nile, records where the moments of silence are stretched out.

Read produced and engineered the album himself, mostly at home with Lara Laeverenz and Gray Rimmer providing cocals. The album is mixed by Dilip Harris (King Krule, Mount Kimbie).

The enchanting cover artwork was painted at Read’s father’s studio in Camberwell, painted in oil with its dreamlike blur of blue and black . It hints at the early film noir and magical realist influences for the album.

For the first time ever, Marcal's "Thought Control" is available on vinyl to commemorate Enemy Records' 20th anniversary. Come Back Down, das neue Album des experimentellen Pop-Duos Total Wife aus Nashville, entstand am Rande des Schlafes. Wenn die Komponistin und Produzentin Luna Kupper während nächtlicher Mixing-Sessions einzuschlafen begann, folgten ihr die Songs in den Zwischenraum zwischen Traum und Wachsein. Wie Dale Cooper in Twin Peaks wachte sie mit einer neuen Perspektive auf das Puzzle auf, das sie gerade zusammensetzte. ,Ich bin eine psychologische Mixerin - ich versuche mir vorzustellen, wie jemand den Klang erlebt, anstatt mich darauf zu versteifen, all diese verschiedenen Töne zu erzeugen und all diese Geräte zu benutzen, um einen bestimmten Klang zu erzielen", sagt Kupper. Die Erfahrung der Isolation veranlasste Richter, an ihre Kindheit zurückzudenken, eine Zeit, die für sie von Einsamkeit und Spielen in der Natur geprägt war - auf Bäume klettern, Matschkuchen backen, sich im Wald verlaufen. In Tracks wie ,in my head" und ,second spring" nutzt sie Bilder aus der Natur, um sich an diese Zeit zu erinnern und eine Verbindung zu ihrem einsamen inneren Kind herzustellen. ,Ich fühle mich mit transzendentalistischer Literatur und magischem Realismus verbunden - dem Versuch, Dinge auf konkrete Weise zu vermitteln, aber mit einem Element von Psychologie und Mysterium", sagt sie. As early as her first album, Retiens mon désir (2016), Cléa Vincent brought us her fresh new pop sound, and succeeded in speaking a universal language through her music – an achievement that she accomplished again in Nuits sans sommeil (2019). Einfach, geradlinig und kraftvoll - ,Sittin' By The Road" enthält 12 Titel, die während Blazes ,Baumhaus"-Zeit in Georgia aufgenommen wurden. Originally released in 2011 during the second big coming of deep house, Maya Jane Coles' 'Focus Now' EP returns as part of 20/20 Vision's Full Circle 30th Anniversary series. It's been out of print for years and harks back to a very different sound from Coles, who has since spread her sonic wings into many different worlds. This reissue features all three original tracks, starting with 'Focus Now,' a soft focus and bubbly blend of pulsing synths and rubbery drums, 'Little One' which was something of a warehouse classic of its time, and 'Senseless' with Coles' own vocals and slow motion drum churn. Alongside those is 'The High Life', another syrupy and warm blend of smooth drums and aching vocal hooks that, like the rest of the cuts, is freshly remastered.

»Lilac« is the first Donna Regina album since 2019’s »Transient.« The world has changed considerably since then, which has also left its mark on the Berlin indie pop duo. The songs released as part of the 2021 single »Welt in einer Stadt« (»World in a City«) for Karaoke Kalk had already dealt with the pandemic-induced standstill and its effects on urban space, and also the rest of the album shows that Günther and Regina Janssen have been influenced by recent social and political developments. »In ›Lilac,‹ I imagine good ol’ Earth as a big ol’ bear shaking us off because it can’t stand us anymore,« says Regina Janssen. It has become a serious album, Günther affirms, but he is also adamant that it is not a sad one. Musically, Donna Regina have remained true to the spirit of their early work, recently re-released by Karaoke Kalk: their arrangements are as minimalist as they are emotionally rich.

»The music is always there,« says Regina Janssen about the creation of the tracks on »Lilac.« As always, the two record their music »track by track and without computers,« as Günther notes. Samples play a smaller role this time than on earlier albums, with analogue instruments such as a monophonic synthesiser and, above all, guitars coming to the fore again. This frames lyrics that are being delivered by Regina in German, English, or in both languages. They delve even further into the intricacies of urban life. »Cities are underrated! What a civilisational achievement it is to have so many people living under one sky,« says Regina. »They constantly put you in touch with the unfamiliar. Sometimes they’ll be overwhelming, and they are always alive.« This ambivalence shapes the tone of the album that ponders on the state of the world today.

Starting with the ominous sounds of »Whole World In My Town,« through the dreamscapes of »Autumn In Paris,« to the elegiac conclusion of »No More Roses,« Regina and Günther Janssen move through different timbres and styles with a few select means. Their preference for minimalist electronics becomes evident at times, while elsewhere the pieces open up to balladic arrangements in which the guitar plays a leading role. This turns »Lilac« into a city by itself, the songs forming its soundscape: every neighbourhood looks different, every street has its own character.
