Pressed with a small hole (as opposed to the 2017 re-issue with the jukebox punch-out). Supported by King Shiloh, Gilles Peterson and countless others, Rothadam’s “Rebel” is one of the deepest and most sought after roots 45s to ever come out of Canada. “Rebel” evokes Black Ark studio wizardry with Rothadam’s delicate yet defiant vocal, thunderous bass and a massive horn section. This release is a monster double-sider: Two different versions of “Rebel” were recorded in Toronto circa 1975, 76 by different producers (Sid Lovejoy at LMP and Ron Lewis at Half Moon) and backed by different bands. The “Rebel” message in Rothadam’s music is obvious, but more than anything the song is a call for peace and unity reflecting on his life in Trenchtown, Jamaica. Rothadam explains: “…..because where I was living , It’s hard to don’t get involved. It wasn’t an easy thing to just live and just be happy….. Hard life man, hard life…most of my friends when they were doing things that aren’t right…Not me. So in other words, I was born to be a strong man.” Rothadam passed away in 2026 but was delighted with the new audience his music had found. This latest reissue is dedicated to his eternal memory.

Cruise Music continues to serve up irresistible nuggets with its Vinyl Jams series, now reaching volume 15. Once again, it is a various artists affair that blends high production value with the right amount of emotional depth and dance floor kicks, this time looking at the warmer side of house. Keller's 'Stressed Out' is clean vocal house with a catchy wiggle and soulful bass roll, Mirko & Meex that layer a soaring diva vocal into 'There's A Light' that could well become an instant classic. Pianos rule on Oliver Knight & Angelala's 'Your Sunshine,' which is a perfect outdoor cruiser for the hotter days and Dino DZ closes down with the well-sampled 'I Like It.' These are refined, accessible summer house sounds but done with a touch of class.

They say 3 is the magic number so here we are with Part 3 of our 'Back To The Old School' 12" series. Four cuts of the finest Disco-Rap remixes by Dave 'Love' Lee, we start things right off with some uptempo disco in the shape of Eddie Cheeba's " Lookin' Good" with it's clav stabbing & synth jabbing funk, ready to rock any dance floor with it's brilliant part-rapped, part-sung vocal play. Two versions are included of the B-Boys early 80's breakers anthem 'Rock The House'. First up is the breakbeat underpinned 'Magic Funk' mix that utilises one of the funkiest basslines of all time. On the flip the 'Roller Rink' mix is a mid tempo floor filler reprising a much loved 90s r&b jam to great effect. Finishing affairs is the 'Maximus Boogie Mix' of Maximus Three, leaning heavily into the classic disco-rap sound of fat Good Times bass, squelching synths under the bragging raps of TJ Swann and Pee Wee Mel.

The Saint Wax label branches out with a new series of edits from founder Eduardo Barbi aka Gledd, who traverses funk, disco and soul across five irresistible cuts. 'Street Preacher' has a spoken word that reminds of early rap days paired with a rousing choral backing, then 'Stevie's Word' turns up the funk with a chunky bassline. 'Do It For Me' is another gospel-fuelled pumper with big stabs ramping up the intensity and then 'Under The Moonlight' is a classy disco stomper lead by florid and chunky funk in the drums. 'Your Love' is an excitable finish with big horns, bigger chords and even bigger vocals. It's big, basically.

The almighty Joe of the Farr’s is a highly accomplished UK techno DJ, producer and mastering engineer. Originally associated with Bristol's electronic music scene, Joe studied TV and film sound design before building a solid reputation through hard-hitting, technically sophisticated techno releases on labels including Turbo, DSNT, Bloc, Soma and Power Vacuum. His concentrated output combines aggressive club-focused rhythms with melodic and IDM-inspired elements. Now based in Wales, performing internationally and on home turf, he also operates a professional mastering engineering operation of the highest esteem of which RIOT could simply not operate without, as many others will gladly attest too.

Continuing with the ‘Limited As Fuck’ series of releases, on our fiercely independent techno label based in Scotland, we’ve finally let loose the screamer of a release, from such an integral member of RIOT HQ, that’s been patiently ‘Left Alone’ and waiting for the right time to unleash its User Experience. Our debut vinyl EP unites Strange Glide, Kamatchi, and Moxi in a project built around a deliberate progression. The tracklist was crafted to move from bright, solar energy toward darker, more introspective moods. Blending eclectic styles, we focused less on genre and more on emotion—shaping each track to express a distinct atmosphere while contributing to a coherent journey in tone and frequency. This EP is a shared narrative where each artist brings their own identity to a fluid, evolving sound.

Big welcome to Time is Now for J Wax for a bit of a statement EP and I am coming out swinging here cos this is a really good record. There’s good, and then there’s this, the kind of good that stays good.

You know that feeling when something’s just right. When flow state becomes clarity. Well listening to this EP from J Wax gives me that feeling. This is proper Goldilocks business. It’s equal parts Gun Fingers and Loved up hugs. Just right.

By now we all know that something very special happens when Speed Garage collides with 1st wave UK Hard House - but - what makes this just right is that J Wax didn’t stop there, just like the Dutch 2nd Wave of Hard House he’s slid onwards into euphoric trance and oh boy am I here for it. In 1997 we got Double99’s Rip Groove and Nalin & Kane’s Beach Ball and for me this EP has as much in common with perfectly formed ‘97 Trance as it does with Speed Garage. Who says you can’t have it all!

We’ve been following J Wax’s output for years. He has been grafting hard. And for me he’s already firmly a part of the long lineage of globally significant Scottish party starting producers and DJ’s. So when we signed this EP to Time is Now I was gassed. Four big tunes. Sick EP. For me it’s crystal. J Wax is now a producer operating in rarefied air.

Nearly two years after "Superpaesaggio," Futureslowdubdisco rematerializes with a new album rooted in deconstructed rhythms, suspended atmospheres, minimalism, emotional tension, and ethnic echoes. Simone Ticconi and Francesco Colagrande, true explorers of sound, first delve into dark and shadowy ravines ("Shaman"), then descend into ocean depths ("Wendigo"), and make their way through impenetrable forests ("Natureconnection"), finally reaching the slopes of an active volcano ("Manitou").
The adventurous journey is rounded out with two more danceable remixes by Virtual Reality and Adelmo.
The crowning achievement is the artwork created by Awer, which pairs with the previous work by Flavia Mastrella.

most intelligent, the most sensitive, the most artistic and he who has to carry the heaviest
load, because this boy's luggage, DAMN, it's pretty heavy).
Luckily, I had already been through a lot when I got this ‘knock in the head’. Sex, drugs, lots
of rock and roll and a sunny childhood with beautiful views I look back on with nostalgia.
Later on I lost my focus and I only thought about one thing: how to get out of it (that damn
problem, my shifted reality, my blind spot, that piece of poisoned apple of forbidden
knowledge choking my throat)!

But I can't think my way out of it, psychiatrists are just ordinary people, and very heavy pills
suppress everything (I'll just take my pills) FLASH!

You ask me what it takes to create music or art that is meaningful and tells a story. It’s hard
when you haven't had enough setbacks, nothing more than maybe a little blues. I'm not
saying it was the right path, but at least I've come a long way. And now I'm a fish in a pool.

It's time to dip into the secret vault once more, and after the first two visits this year, we can't wait. The latest from this mysterious and so far anonymous new label and production crew is another scorching disco two-tracker. The opener on the A-side is full of excitable horns and funky guitar lines with irresistible hand claps and tracky grooves that roll for days. On the flip-side, 'Track 2' brings a vocal line that is brings a sing-along and uplifting vibe as it rides on busy, funky bass motifs with lovely slide in the hi-hats and more lush strings. It's a big-hearted and fulsome disco-house sound for when the whole floor needs locking in to a loved-up vibe.

20/20 Vision continues to flourish even well into its third decade. For its next trick, the Leeds label welcomes back Brett Johnson, who was last here 20+ years ago. Releases on Classic Records, DJ Heather collaborations and Derrick Carter championing his work all make him a bona fide house hero and 'Broken Machine' confirms it. 'Unstuck' opens with a mutating disco bassline that refuses to settle, while 'Juiced' dives deep into his signature boompty swing with a drop designed for pure devastation. The title track is the centrepiece - a trippy trip that stretches time entirely before 'iRemember' closes with starry-eyed ambient pads laced above a deep, slow, gorgeous groove. Sophisticated, playful and musical as always.

It’s time for Ahad’s biggest move yet: his first full-length album, P*KI. Powerful, deeply personal and unapologetic, the album is rooted in the dancefloor and in Ahad’s belief that club culture is a space where he can “exist completely authentically.” By reclaiming a word he has personally been confronted with, Ahad transforms P*KI (pronounced Pee-Star-Kay-Eye) into a statement of joy, pride, celebration and self-love. On the A-side, Was That All It Was opens with crisp, punchy drums before gradually unfolding into a masterclass in arrangement. From the fires and floods of the Australian bush on her debut, Soon, which Phil Elverum reissued via his label, P.W. Elverum & Sun, tiarn now takes us to the shores of the Pacific Ocean where classical and electronic arrangements move with an ever-present longing for connection and nature. Stretton has weaved a new world, set on the brink of night, when the world is soft and suspended in blue. Living in isolation near the ocean, overlooking the winter migration of whales, Stretton would regularly swim during the brief 20-minute period known as the blue hour. Ideas would come to her in the icy salt water, and walking home in the dark, she would carry melodies back to record that night. At its heart, tiarn reflects ecological grief and the search for connection in a changing world. tiarn is also inspired by a piece of home camera footage Stretton found of her family in Japan where they lived in the ‘90s before she was born.

It shows the distant mountains, and Stretton’s young family looking over the valley in the soft static of one summer evening. Decades later, using the untouched synth her parents had bought in Tokyo in 1991, Stretton began recording music directly to that footage, letting the images dictate the melody. Voices, insects, weather, movement, and the ambient sounds of the valley are woven throughout the record itself, blurring the line between documentation and composition. The result is an album that feels less created than uncovered — something remembered rather than made. Stretton’s work continues to carve a singular path in contemporary music, balancing environmental awareness, experimental composition, and deeply personal storytelling.

Sweet Apricots presents its first vinyl release: Daniel Masson – Baul Dimension EP.

In the early 2000s, French composer and producer Daniel Masson travelled to Dhaka to record musicians and singers from Bangladesh’s Baul tradition, a mystical musical culture centred on freedom, inner exploration and universal love.

Originally released as a 13-track album, Baul Dimension appears here on vinyl for the first time through a carefully selected four-track EP. The record brings together the original version, Daniel Masson’s hypnotic Anniversary Version, and two remixes by Lucas Desmottes, aka Roy Vision.

A regular guest at Sweet Apricots parties, Roy Vision translates the spirit of the dancefloor into two deep, percussive and jazz-informed versions: the uplifting Higher Self Mix and its spacious, powerful dub counterpart.

Between organic voices, traditional instrumentation, electronic textures and hypnotic rhythms, Baul Dimension EP is a journey made for attentive listening as much as for adventurous dancefloors.

Omasta step into their own voice with “Hits Different”, marking a new stage in their evolution as musicians and storytellers.

Following their debut “Jazz Report From The Hood", which proved a major success and brought attention to Omasta as one of the most distinctive groups emerging from the contemporary jazz scene, the musicians return with their second album, “Hits Different”. The record develops the language established on their debut, pushing it into new territory and shifting the perspective from that of the protagonists themselves to that of a narrator telling the story.

While the debut album was a story about the lives and emotions of the band’s members, “Hits Different” adopts the perspective of a narrator, giving the album a more cinematic structure. As on the first record, the story is never told explicitly. The track titles merely point the way, leaving space for listeners to bring their own emotions, imagination, and experiences to the music. Each track becomes another scene in a story that moves through a broad spectrum of emotions, from happiness and excitement to anxiety, tension, and disorientation. It is a story that allows everyone to create their own interpretation, but its ending leaves no room for doubt. There is no happy ending here.

Since its original release, Aging has taken on an interesting wider significance. OCA’s music came to the attention of Kelela, who featured the duo in her Aquaphoria mix before later working with Yo van Lenz and Florian T M Zeisig in their Berlin studio. Those sessions would go on to play an important role in shaping the sound of her acclaimed 2023 album Raven, on which both artists are credited.

Berlin based duo OCA present Aging, their sophomore album and first for Métron Records. Following up last year's Preset Music (recently featured in Kelela's Aquaphoria mix) Aging is an album that focuses on memory, experience and the passing of time.

A collaboration between producers Yo van Lenz and Florian T M Zeisig, OCA formed after the pair met and became friends while studying in Berlin. Originally from small towns in Bavaria, the duo now live and work in the German capital.

Through a series of 10 vignettes, Aging transports the listener on a trip across a series of life events that retain a special personal importance to both of the artists. These emotional touchstones range from the profound to the prosaic - the discovery of something new, the relief from annoyance or the familiarity found in an old companion - and have been fully explored with playful sonic introspection.

Whilst the concept retains a certain ambiguity, it is the sound palette, created solely on an Alesis QS6 synthesiser - that brings these experiences to life. OCA blend and weave classic dance music motifs with shimmering synths, Japanese wet ambient, and even anthemic 80s rock to create a soundscape rich with texture and sensation.

The bass notes and tentative lead of ‘Baby’s First Blade of Grass’ reference the memory of first consciously or subconsciously experiencing something new, whilst the decaying ripples of ‘Stretching in Water’ paired with sounds of flowing streams conjure up images of tranquil pools. Their most developed work to date, Aging showcases OCA as rising stars of progressive pop and modern ambient.

For the 10 year anniversary of La Luna, we are excited to share with you this special 007 from Akasha Chronicles, an alias of Silat Beksi.
Akasha Chronicles released his first EP on the Wex sub-label, AHAAD, back in 2018.
After 8 years, he returns with this sentimental mini LP dedicated to his home country, Ukraine.
This release holds a special place in his heart, as he transformed his pain and dealings with the ongoing war into these six tracks which make up History of Great People.
He also wrote a manifesto about the album, his feelings, and the process behind the creation of the album.
Berlin-based artist Memo, who also did the artwork on the first La Luna, returns after 10 years to gift us with another one of his trippy and complex paintings, filled with different worlds the more you observe.
A portion of the sales will be donated to the Ukrainian NGO Repair Together, which focuses on dancing and raving to electronic music while they repair houses destroyed by the war in Ukraine.

Two years after releasing the acclaimed Crash Recoil, Anthony Child aka Surgeon returns to Tresor with new LP, Shell~Wave. Retaining the minimal equipment list and studio-version-of-live-show-sets approach of the previous album in order to focus on the work itself, Shell~Wave is a deeply personal document of both where Surgeon is and has been, converging three decades of experience with a continued curiosity in the untested.
“To make this project, I had to dig really deep in terms of what my relationship was to techno; I’ve been involved with it for a really long time and there’s a lot about it I feel dislocated from, so I had to really think hard about what techno is to me. I often get asked “what is techno to you?” but I can’t answer that with words; this album is the answer.” From the complex, twisting track Infinite Eye to the caustic Soul Fire, the eight tracks that make up the body of the album are single-take explorations of the vast, hard yet minimal techno Child is synonymous with.
Neatly dividing the record in two, the emotional centre of the record comes in the form of Dying, a vibrating, beatless piece that with a mantra-like vocal loop steeped in reverberating effects. Further echoes of dub production appear throughout the record as tracks like Divine Shadow, and Empty Cloud have an almost ever-present mist of reverberation, driven by the appearance of a new delay unit in the equipment list; while much of the philosophy of Crash Recoil’s creation is present, the process and the instruments have changed as Child again switches up his approach to studio work.
This insistence on trying novel techniques doesn’t preclude returning to old ones, as this use of modern digital machines with live, hands-on takes that are as inspired by 60s producer Joe Meek and 70s reggae as they are by this year’s synthesiser expos.
“For me, it’s an interesting experience returning to old techniques again after 30 years. I’m always exploring and finding myself back at the beginning. Connecting the present with the past.”
This philosophy of ‘time travel’ is inherent to the music itself as the synchronised loops repeat while the delay and effects branch out, forming unique eddies; distinct quantum moments within the circular whole; the future leaking through the spaces between the sounds. All of the concepts on the album are perfectly communicated through the painting by Taiwanese artist Jazz Szu-Ying Chen which suggests the movement of water, sound waves, and the chitinous shells of sea creatures.

Groovedeep, the international supergroup comprised of Toronto’s Ciel and DC stars James Bangura and Jackson Ryland aka JR2k, brings Fixed Rhythms a 12” of four racing, groovy, energetic, funky and lush techno cuts. This is the second vinyl outing by the group, the first one being the recent “Funk Solo” on Turbo Recordings featuring remixes by Batu, Shed, and Mark Broom.

“Speed Queen” opens up the EP with hypnotizing techno that eschews any four-on-the-floor demands. Up-tempo with a touch of house and handdrums and a tantalizing vocal clip. “Witness” has a similar structure…handdrums, non four-on-the-floor kick drum composition, rhythmic vocal chop-work, but whereas A1 is the leap into the deep, “Witness” has us diving down, exploring the eerier depths.

Whip to the B-side with “Flashback”, a slightly more east coast club track while also incorporating a bit more of a pummeling kick. The aforementioned Groovedeep sonic signatures are there, and…can’t get enough of the handdrums?!?! Well then just let that last “Witness (Bongo Heavy VIP)” track slide in, a slightly meaner (and of course bongo-ier) boom of a take on the A2.

New chapter for Loftsoul reworks, house and disco grooves from the mysterious Japanese artist

Charlotte de Witte now unleashes her slamming three-track EP ‘The Resistance’, featuring Theo Nasa and XSALT, out on KNTXT. It follows the astonishing summer tour of her new audiovisual show ‘The Resistance’, including a spectacular ‘XXL’ version at Belgium’s Rock Werchter in July, for a 40,000 audience watching from inside and outside the tent.

World #1 techno artist Charlotte de Witte’s new show continues a standout year of experimental ventures and celebrations, global pop-up shows, monster street parties, incredible new music (EPs and Deluxe LP)… and most recently ‘The Resistance’ AV show world premier at UNVRS Ibiza and the EU tour. The new ‘The Resistance’ EP is hard, fast, and uncompromising. It saw the light of day in Brussels, where the lyrics took shape together with my friend One Track Brain. The track was forgotten and resurfaced years later, leading to an entirely new track created around that magical vocal from all those years ago. This is an EP very close to my heart.’

"Memory Remains" A Vinyl Cover Painted by 20 Children Who Believed They Could

A new album where the artwork is as personal as the music, created entirely by first-graders from Croatia.
When it came time to design the cover for Memory Remains, there was only one group of artists who felt right for the job: the first-grade class 1A of Osnovna škola Luka in Sesvete, Croatia.
Every single child in the class took part. Each student was given the chance to draw whatever came to mind: memories, dreams, imaginary worlds, the people and animals they love, and every one of those drawings made it onto the final cover. Nothing was left out, nothing was "corrected." The front and back panels of the vinyl are a patchwork of more than two dozen individual visions, side by side, unfiltered and unmistakably their own.
The idea grew directly out of the album's centrepiece track, "World Child", a song about the simple, often-overlooked truth that every child carries a talent that belongs only to them, and that no two ways of seeing the world are the same. Rather than illustrate that idea with a single artist's interpretation, it felt right to hand the canvas to an entire classroom of six- and seven-year-olds and let them prove the point themselves.
The result is a cover that doesn't try to look polished or professional, because that was never the goal. It looks like a classroom wall covered in a year's worth of drawings, each one different, each one someone's best effort, each one worth keeping. Which is exactly what "World Child" is about.

YL Hooi returns with 'Running Around (83)', the project's first release since 2019's Untitled. Valya Ying-Li Hooi and Tarquin Manek finally commit a long road-tested live favourite to tape, welding together engine room doom, disembodied vocals, cryptic lyricism and a smouldering dub-techno bassline, recast and overdriven.

The hand-stamped white label 12" honours its roots with three heavyweight remixes. After corrupted audio files erased YL Hooi's recent live collaboration with Mad Professor, the Ariwa boss gives their encounter lasting form with a percussion-dripped halftime stepper featuring veteran Black Steel and new blood Karmelody.

The flipside immediately detours with Ulla's full-scale tear down and rebuild, layering woodwind, keys and subtle percussion into an improbably elegant convergence of ambient, minimal jazz and modern classical. John T. Gast's Midas touch then drags it into bardo dancehall territory, a rugged soundsystem destroyer that's scuzzy, screwed and wired with punk instinct.

Revered collaborators Lauer and Fabrizio Mammarella unveil their blinding 4-track EP 'Megamix' on Mammarella's own imprint Wrong Era. Black Spuma's latest offering traverses their honed realms. Dark and pumping, 'Megamix' stands as a bold celebration of Black Spuma's sound. Each track highlighting their signature chemistry, blending distinct influences into a seamless, forward-thinking journey. We release our second record, COPPIES002. Another hand stamped white label EP, collecting tunes from thecommunity, for the community. This time with tracks by Kerr Wilson, Salomo, illousion and APRS. Kerr starts on A1 with his "The Key To My Heart". He showed the first version of the track to Robert around 4 years ago in a memorable summer spent together. We made the promise that this will be pressed on record one day and, here it is! Thanks Kerr! It's a melancholic late-summer tune that makes you tear up and feel like the warm euphoria won't last forever, but it will surely return if you're patient. Salomo follows with a similar moody approach on "Say less (on the DF)", even though we can argue about the meaning of the title ;). illousion builds more tension on the flipside with "Masc or Mask". Entering dubby, rolling terrains with more high intensity drum patterns for later moments of the night. APRS is closing the EP with "I Want to Speak" on B2, maybe the counter argument to Salomos desire of a less noisy dancefloor. With Picture About You, Recut opens a new chapter, blending the heritage of house music, acid textures and underground electronic culture into a contemporary vision for today’s dancefloors. CER015 sees Celestial Echo bring back one of the great modern soul 45s, Ramsey & Company – “Love Call”.

Coming out of New York in the late ’70s, Ramsey & Company was led by Mainor Ramsey, with the group originally playing the Catskills supper club circuit. Their only single was released privately on Ramsey’s own Ramco label, with copies sold at shows and barely making it into wider distribution. Like so many great soul records, it found its real afterlife much later, becoming a favourite across the UK modern soul and rare groove scene.

“Love Call” is the reason this record has carried such a reputation for so long. A beautifully arranged modern soul dancer, it has that perfect late ’70s balance of groove, song and musicianship. On the B-side, “Leg Grease” brings the funk.

Original copies are now almost impossible to find, often selling for serious money when it turns up and even the Lotus Land reissue has become expensive in its own right. This Celestial Echo edition puts the track back into circulation properly, cut loud and ready for the DJs and soul heads who have been waiting on a clean copy.

The Visions EP is the debut release from London based DJ/Producer duo Suburban Architecture. Drawing heavily on influences from one of Drum & Bass' most innovative and rapidly changing eras, the mid to late 90s, the duo's productions place a contemporary spin on sounds rooted in this golden era of dance music.

This 4 track EP explores a selection of sounds that meet at the intersection of nostalgia and modern production: "Visions '96" fuses atmospheric jazz samples and haunting horns with fractured drums in a manner reminiscent of Source Direct, Photek et al. You certainly can’t accuse Extrawelt of lacking ideas. They are, so to speak, the legitimate descendants of the legendary planet designer Slartibartfast from Douglas Adams’ “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy”. No doubt, the downright insanely creative bossa nova-techno bastard “Honey Hunter” will be mentioned in the same breath as Slartibartfast’s award-winning Norwegian coastlines by future civilizations. The other three tracks aren’t half bad either. Take our word for it.

Und weil es für jede gute Geburtstagsparty auch die passende Musik geben muss, hat die Band zum ersten Mal alle ihre Hits und Lieblingslieder auf einem Album versammelt. Ihre jüngeren Ichs hätten den Song vielleicht sich selbst zerstören lassen, doch hier gelang es ihnen, die Lautstärke durch alle Extreme hindurch zu stabilisieren und Raum für ein eindringliches, abschließendes A-cappella zu schaffen: WE PAY THE PRICE FOR THOSE IN POWER EXPLOITING YOU EXPLOITING ME CONSUMING YOU CONSUMING ME SICK SICK SICK SICKENING IT IS US THAT ARE DEVOURED BY EVERYTHING I WILL EAT YOUR HATE

Rasante Gitarren, hämmernde Drums und eingängige, aber tiefgründige Texte. Das sind die Mittel, mit denen Pardoner seit über einem Jahrzehnt ihre ,Slacker"-Songs formen. Auf ihrem fünften Album ,Target Practice" verfeinern sie ihren Ansatz weiter, auf der Suche nach einem himmlischen Pop-Hit Ö. Da sie einen kulturellen Rückfall in Richtung Math-Rock und Prog spüren, ist dies ihr bisher geradlinigstes Album. Fehlende sind die überraschenden Blast Beats und Szenenwechsel, die die Markenzeichen von ,Came Down Different" (2021) und ,Peace Loving People" (2023) waren. Übrig bleiben 10 prägnante Songs, geprägt von verspielter Boshaftigkeit und Satire. Es ist schwer, inmitten der feindseligen Kräfte dieser Welt kein ,Blackpilled"-Doomer zu sein. Die Angriffe der Band auf pseudo-intellektuelle Hochkunst und Kollegen aus der Szene sind jedoch nicht frei von Selbstkritik. ,Driving across the country // Preaching bulls**t gospel" wird auf der Lead-Single ,Twisted" halb gesungen, begleitet von klirrenden Gitarrenklängen. ,Target Practice" - vom ,Record Store Final Boss" abgesegnet - ist eine moderne, spritzigere Interpretation des College-Rock der 80er/90er. Flying Nun, Smudge und die lautere Seite von Yo La Tengo sind alle im Geiste präsent. Die Single ,Don't Slouch" ist ein Versuch, einen Blessed-Virgins-Song auf Xanax-Art zu interpretieren. Wann wurde diese Band das letzte Mal auf einem One-Sheet erwähnt? Vor ihrem Album-Closer ,Changing Mags", bei dem die Band ihr Herz auf der Zunge trägt, covern sie die Nuggets-nahen The Barracudas, deren Text ,Target Practice" auf den Punkt bringt: ,Ich bilde mir das nicht ein, ich sehe die Zeichen. Wir leben in gewalttätigen Zeiten."

GEORG DANZER - "JAHRESZEITEN" - Das Beste aus fünf Jahrzehnten Anlässlich des 80. Geburtstags des großen österreichischen Liedermachers GEORG DANZER veröffentlicht Sony Music eine von Georg Danzers langjährigem Wegbegleiter und Manager Franz Christian Schwarz liebevoll kompilierte Best Of mit dem Titel "Jahreszeiten". Das auf farbiger 2LP sowie auf 1CD erhältliche Album umfasst Lieder aus jeder Schaffensphase des 2007 verstorbenen Künstlers, dessen musikalisches Erbe die österreichische Musik nachhaltig prägte. Das Albumcover setzt sich aus vier Portraits Georg Danzers zusammen, die von Nina Maron, Tochter des unvergessenen Sigi Maron, gemalt wurden. Franz Christian Schwarz beschreibt die Zusammenstellung der Best Of mit folgenden Worten: "Alle meine Lieder sind wie Sonne Mond & Sterne" ist der Beginn eines Liedes auf der CD-Single "Sonne, Mond & Sterne", die anlässlich der gleichnamigen DVD-Veröffentlichung von Georg Danzer erschienen ist. Diese Liedzeile gab auch den Ausschlag, die vorliegende Doppel-LP "Jahreszeiten" zu nennen, um die Bandbreite von Danzers musikalischer Vielfalt unter Beweis zu stellen. Danzer schaffte es wie kaum ein anderer Beobachtungen, Erzählungen, Gedanken und Emotionen in Worte und Melodien zu fassen. Mit über fünfhundert veröffentlichten Liedern für sich selbst und andere Interpretinnen und Interpreten zählt Danzer zu den produktivsten Liederschreibern des Landes. Einige seiner Lieder hielten auch in Schul- und Notenheften Einzug. Die vorliegende Doppel-Vinyl und die um einen Titel verkürzte CD-Version wurden eine spezielle Zusammenstellung, auf der neben bekannten Liedern auch solche zu hören sind, die entweder bisher unbekannt oder dem Zuhörer nicht so geläufig sind, aber das musikalische Spektrum des großartigen Poppoeten widerspiegeln. Die Komponistin Claudia Sarne sagte über die Entstehung der Musik für „Supergirl“: „Die Vertonung von ‚Supergirl‘ war wie ein wilder Fiebertraum. Ich habe mich besonders mit der Unordnung und Komplexität ihrer Figur identifiziert und liebte die Bandbreite, die der Film erforderte. Die Möglichkeit, von dreckigen Synth-Basslinien und -Sequenzen zu großen thematischen Orchesterstücken und traurigen Solo-Klavierpassagen zu wechseln, war eine unglaubliche Reise. Craig wünschte sich Musik, die das Gefühlsleben der Figuren zum Ausdruck bringt – von Ruthyes Herzschmerz und Idealismus über Karas Verzweiflung und Rebellion bis hin zu Lobos Nihilismus und Krem’s Schrecken; all das verbunden durch die Liebesgeschichte zwischen Kara und Krypto.“ Mit einem Cover-Artwork von Bilquis Evely, gepresst auf 2x 140 gm Farbvinyl, mit einer im Siebdruckverfahren bedruckten D-Seite.

Die Musik auf Horse Lords' "Demand to Be Taken to Heaven Alive!" wirkt zugleich unglaublich detailliert und zutiefst menschlich. Die zwölf versammelten Stücke sind vielschichtig, verflochten, tonal und rhythmisch komplex - moiré-artige Muster aus Interaktion und Verzahnung, die sich sowohl körperlich als auch geistig entfalten, voller klanglicher Gänge mit einem unausweichlichen Groove. Künstler sind nicht notwendigerweise Wissenschaftler, Logiker oder spirituelle Führer, doch durch ihr persönliches Verständnis von Ordnung und Erfahrung eröffnen sie einen unmittelbaren Zugang zu gesteigerten Zuständen von Materialität und Immaterialität. Horse Lords wurden 2010 in Baltimore gegründet; sie gingen aus einer anderen Gruppe namens Teeth Mountain hervor und starteten als Trio mit Gitarrist Owen Gardner, Bassist Max Eilbacher und Schlagzeuger Sam Haberman, bevor der Altsaxofonist Andrew Bernstein zum Kernensemble hinzustieß. Obwohl das Quartett aus einer fruchtbaren Noise- und Experimental-Rock-Szene hervorgegangen ist - einem legendären Umfeld für Künstler und Außenseiter, das viele einflussreiche Bands hervorgebracht hat (Lungfish, Matmos) - war ihr Ansatz über sechs Alben, zahlreiche Kollaborationen und als gefeierte Liveband weit vielseitiger, als es die punktierten Rhythmen instrumentaler elektrischer Rockmusik vermuten lassen. Für dieses Projekt wird die Band durch Bassklarinettistin Madison Greenstone, Posaunist Weston Olencki und - erstmals bei Horse Lords - durch Gesang von Nina Guo und Evelyn Saylor ergänzt. Das Eröffnungsstück ,Eureka 378-B" ist ein Arrangement von sakraler Harfenmusik aus dem 19. Jahrhundert, getragen vom Gesang von Guo und Saylor; seine Melodie entfaltet sich weit und setzt einen tonalen Startpunkt für vieles, was folgt. Dazu kommen die kurzen "Rotations", die Fragmente aus anderen Stücken isolieren. "D2BT2HA!" enthält unzählige klangliche und konzeptuelle Schichten, doch angesichts der unverkennbaren Kraft und Menschlichkeit der Musik ist der Prozess, sie zu entschlüsseln, begeisternd und zutiefst lohnend. Selten ist eine Platte, die einen so unmittelbar packt und zugleich bei jedem Hören vollkommen neu erscheint.

Das 2016 erschienene "Teens of Denial" markiert einen entscheidenden Wendepunkt in der Karriere von Car Seat Headrest und insbesondere von Frontmann Will Toledo. Nach einer Reihe von lo-fi Bedroom-Produktionen, die Toledo größtenteils allein aufgenommen hatte, war es das erste Album, das mit voller Bandbesetzung und größerem Studioaufwand entstand. Veröffentlicht wurde es über das renommierte Indie-Label Matador Records, bei dem Toledo kurz zuvor unter Vertrag genommen wurde. Das Album verbindet introspektive Texte mit energiegeladenem Indie-Rock und greift Themen wie Selbstfindung, Angst, Isolation und Jugendkultur auf. Songs wie "Fill in the Blank", "Drunk Drivers/Killer Whales" und "Destroyed by Hippie Powers" wurden schnell zu Publikumslieblingen und halfen der Band, ein deutlich größeres Publikum zu erreichen. "Teen Of Denial: (Joe"s Story)" ist nun ein komplettes Remake dieses 10 Jahre alten Klassiker. Toledo, der seinen Songbook gerne neuinterpretiert, wechselt hier die Perspektive und erzählt die Geschichte aus der Sicht von Joe. Auf dem Originalalbum verwendete Toledo häufig den Namen "Joe" als Pseudonym - eine subtile Hommage an Daniel Johnston. Als er Teens im Vorfeld seines 10-jährigen Jubiläums erneut aufgriff, verspürte er den Drang, Joe eine eigene Hintergrundgeschichte zu geben, und begann, das Album entsprechend anzupassen, um diese Geschichte zu erzählen. Die Band kehrte gemeinsam mit dem Teens-Produzenten Steve Fisk ins Studio zurück, um das Werk zu überarbeiten - mit angepassten Texten, überarbeiteten Arrangements und neuen Aufnahmen im "Denial-Stil", darunter "Optimistic Son" und die hymnische Single "Joe Drives Again".
