Es war wie gebannt von den unvermittelten Stakkato-Rhythmen, der mysteriösen (also: deutschen) Sprache und der Kraft und Vision der beteiligten Musikerinnen. 40 Jahre später, genauer am 9. Mai 2025, erscheint nun "Gift: The 4AD Years", mit dem das Londoner Label die Jahre 1983/1984 wieder aufleben lässt. Die 3xLP führt das fiebrige "Fetisch", das mächtige "Tocsin" und die korrespondierenden EP-Tracks zu einem Ganzen zusammen, das pulsiert vor Energie und Haltung. Enthalten sind auch die Bandklassiker "Incubus Succubus II" und "Qual". Das Coverartwork mit einer Fotoarbeit von Peter Schulte wurde auf Grundlage von 23 Envelope-Originalarbeiten von Timothy O"Donnell designt. Die Jazzwelt darf sich freuen, dass Blue Note Records das außergewöhnliche Talent von Trompeter Brandon Woody erkannt hat. Der junge, in Baltimore geborene und ansässige Künstler hat in den letzten Jahren in der US-Jazzwelt aufhorchen lassen. „Brandon ist einer der seltenen Künstler, der sowohl eine lebendige Vision als auch die Fähigkeit und das Wissen besitzt, diese umzusetzen“, sagt Blue-NotePräsident Don Was.

Der vielseitige Musiker hat trotz seiner jungen Jahre bereits einen ganz individuellen Sound zwischen Modern Jazz und souligen Elementen entwickelt, der an seinen großen Kollegen Freddie Hubbard erinnert. Um sich herum hat er eine herausragende Band versammelt und für sein Debütalbum sechs mitreißende Eigenkompositionen aufgenommen. „For The Love Of It All“ bezeichnet er als Hommage an die Kraft der Liebe. Die Besetzung besteht aus Troy Long (Klavier, Orgel, Rhodes, Keyboards), Quincy Phillips (Schlagzeug) und Michael Saunders (Bass), sowie den Special Guests Imani Grace (Gesang) und Vittorio Stropoli (Aux-Synthesizer).

“The Atacama Experience” wurde von dem Jazzviolinisten Jean-Luc Ponty als eine musikalische Reise konzipiert. Diese Reise beginnt in der Einleitung mit einer Pariser Straßenszene, der dreizehn Songs folgen, die den Hörer durch verschiedene Länder, eine Reihe unterschiedlichster Impressionen und Emotionen sowie in die musikalische Vergangenheit und Gegenwart führen. Die Aufnahmen entstanden zwischen Januar 2006 und Februar 2007. In diesem Zeitraum bereiste Ponty mit seiner Band diverse Kontinente und absolvierte Auftritte in Südamerika, Europa, Russland, den USA und Indien. Zwischendurch kehrte er immer wieder nach Frankreich zurück, um die frischen Eindrücke und neuen Einsichten in Einspielungen für dieses Projekt zu verwandeln.

LEPER COLONY kreuzen den deutschen und schwedischen Death Metal Stil mit klassischen Einflüssen aus der US-Szene. Die Band entstand aus der langjährigen Freundschaft und der gemeinsamen Liebe zum Death Metal der alten Schule, die den deutschen Sänger Marc Grewe und den schwedischen Gitarristen Rogga Johansson dazu brachten, im Jahr 2020 ein gemeinsames Album zu produzieren. Das Duo holte sich CONSUMPTION-Schlagzeuger Jon Skäre und Lead-Gitarrist Kjetil Lyngahug (PAGANIZER) ins Boot, um das selbstbetitelte Debütalbum aufzunehmen, welches im Jahr 2023 veröffentlicht wurde. Das Werk wurde von Kritikern und Fans gleichermaßen positiv aufgenommen. Es wurde schnell klar, dass es sich bei LEPER COLONY keineswegs bloß um ein weiteres "Superprojekt" handelte, sondern dass eingefleischte Death Metal Fanatiker mit einer Vielzahl von frischen Ideen aufwarten. Marc Crewe hat sich als ehemaliger Frontmann von MORGOTH, und später mit INSIDIOUS DISEASE sowie ASINHELL einen klangvollen Namen in der Szene erworben. Gitarrist und Bassist Rogga Johansson prägte den schwedischen Death Metal in einer Reihe von Bands wie PAGANIZER, RIBSPREADER und REVOLTING entscheidend mit. WOMBBATH-Gitarrist Håkan Stuvemark übernahm mittlerweile die Leadgitarre und Jon Rudin wurde ebenfalls als neues Mitglied verpflichtet. Der britische Schlagzeuger ist unter anderem von MONSTROUS und DEAD SUN bekannt. Mit "Those of the Morbid" geben LEPER COLONOY allen Old School Death Metal Fans exakt das brutale und kompromisslose Album, auf das sie lange warten mussten!

Beseelt von der Idee des ursprünglichen Punk (Man muss kein Virtuose sein um tolle Musik zu machen), veröffentlichen sie seit Jahren großartige Popsongs, stark beeinflusst von den drei großen "M"s (Madness, Motown, Modern Lovers). Mit einer herzerfrischenden Kompromisslosigkeit Umarmen und Zementieren sie ihren Außenseiterstatus gleichermaßen. Auf Anbiederung an den Zeitgeist zwecks Erfolgsmaximierung haben sie entweder keine Lust oder, was auch sein kann, da haben sie einfach noch nicht drüber nachgedacht. Ziel der Liga war und ist es immer, dass jeder Albumtrack auch eine Single sein kann. Auf "Egg Benedict" haben sie es eigentlich geschafft. Erfrischend weit weg ist DLDGG vom zeitgenössischem Staatstheater- und Feuilletonrock welcher hierzulande so beliebt ist. Immer wenn ein neues Liga-Album erscheint ist es so, als würde in einer etwas vermufften Wohnung am ersten warmen Frühlingstag das Fenster geöffnet werden und eine herrlich leichte Brise weht herein. Wie so viele Coming-of-Age-Geschichten mit nachhaltigem Eindruck spielt das neue Album der Brooklyner Band Momma in einem bezaubernden und turbulenten Sommer. "Welcome To My Blue Sky" wurde mit der gesamten Band live im Studio aufgenommen und von Bandkollege Aron Kobayashi Ritch produziert. Mit Hilfe des Drummers Preston Fulks gelangen Momma 12 kraftvolle Songs, die die rohe Dringlichkeit des Rock mit den eindringlichen Melodien und straffen Arrangements des Pop kombinieren – eine Dynamik, die aus ihrem Engagement entstand, das direkteste Ventil für ihren emotionalen Ausdruck zu finden. “Underground” is a relative term. One could argue that all the ‘60s San Francisco psychedelic bands were underground, because the music they made was so far removed from the pop and rock sounds that came before them. But of all the bands in the scene, Lamb was perhaps the most underground of them all. It wasn’t just that their blend of rock, folk, classical, country, blues, and gospel was as hard to classify as any of the era. It was also their vibe. Along with classically trained guitarist and songwriting partner Bob Swanson, Barbara Mauritz’s versatile vocals paced material often imbued with a haunting, mystical aura. Yet they could also be earthy and rootsy, occasionally drifting into spacey psychedelia with hints of raga-rock. Released in the early ‘70s, Lamb’s first two albums, A Sign of Change and Cross Between, did indeed offer some of the most intriguing and eclectic music of any San Francisco rock band on the psychedelic scene. But Lamb’s history predated the release of those records by a good couple of years or so. So prolific were Mauritz and Swanson that quite a few of their original compositions didn’t make it onto their albums, though these were often on par with the songs that did find official release. Unlike many bands of the time who had a bounty of surplus quality tunes, Lamb often taped these in studios and studio-like rehearsal conditions, as well as making some professional tapes of their live performances. Fortunately, many of those tapes survive, including a good number of songs that didn’t find a place on their LPs, as well as substantially different versions of some that did. The best of these from the late 1960s find release for the first time on An Extension of Now: Unreleased Recordings 1968-1969. This collection not only rounds out our picture of one of San Francisco rock’s finest underappreciated acts, but also serves as a first-class document of Lamb as they made their transition from a more standard rock outfit to a group not easily comparable to any other in the region, or indeed any other anywhere. Our black vinyl and CD (with extra tracks, limited to 500) releases feature liner notes by Richie Unterberger drawn from an interview with Bob Swanson, who has also contributed photos and memorabilia from his private archive. Bald entdeckte Hart die elektronische Musik und das Clubbing für sich.Seine Fähigkeiten als Produzent entwickelte er während der Zusammenarbeit mit dem Double Six/Domino-Künstler George FitzGerald, mit dem ihn eine langjährige musikalische Beziehung verbindet. Bis heute hat Hart Solo-Singles, EPs und Remixe auf Hotflush, Attack Decay Sweet Release, LG105 und seinem eigenen Label SSEM veröffentlicht.

Chiminyo is a UK-based jazz/electronic artist and the founder of the new label NRG Discs (having previously released on Brownswood, Nightdreamer, Gearbox, and Astigmatic, with artists such as Gary Bartz, Shabaka Hutchings, Maisha, Nubya Garcia, Cykada, Uniri, as well as solo). Chiminyo is a versatile musician who blends the raw energy of live drums and percussion with cutting-edge electronic production.

His early solo releases showcased his knack for unique approaches to making music, using self-coded software to trigger synths and samples from every cymbal crash and drum hit, eliminating loops and click-tracks. This DIY, tech-driven methodology allowed Chiminyo complete, spontaneous control over his music—all from the stool behind his drum kit—creating a sound that is both daring and innovative.

Chiminyo's latest project, NRG, continues this trend of innovative thinking. Born from discussions around the UK jazz scene, Chiminyo concluded that this musical expression is less about "jazz" and more about the energy (NRG) that fuels it. As a result, NRG has evolved into a semi-regular event where Chiminyo brings together some of London's finest musicians for live, improvised performances that encapsulate the spirit of the scene. These live recordings are then given the magic production treatment by Chiminyo and co-producer Aviv Cohen, transforming them into the masterpieces we get to hear on wax.

The first three NRG LPs were a massive success, generating over 600,000 streams, selling over 800 copies (without distribution support), and receiving airplay on BBC Radio, Jazz FM, NTS, Soho Radio, and many more. High-profile DJs like Gilles Peterson and Jamz Supernova championed the albums, which were also covered in print by The Guardian, Jazzwise, Echoes Magazine, and various online channels. This success led to an invitation to record a live album at Ronnie Scott's, one of London's most iconic jazz venues—an incredible opportunity for any artist.

NRG 4 brings together some of the best jazz and electronic musicians in London. The album features Marisia Osu (harp), James Akers (tenor saxophone), Daniel Casimir (double bass), Lyle Barton (synthesizers), and Tilé Gichigi-Liperé (live electronics)—an all-star lineup whose members have released multiple records on Concord, Brownswood, Jazz Re:freshed, Astigmatic and more, and have collaborated with artists such as Laura Misch, Nubya Garcia, Blue Lab Beats and Emma-Jean Thackray. Three tracks are graced with features from Jorja Smith's backing vocalist BAELY and Cuban saxophone maestro Regis Molina.

Panos Alexiadis is a sound artist based in Athens, Greece, active in the field of contemporary electro-acoustic music. He founded and co-curated the tape label Thalamos, a home for exploratory sounds, where some of his own works also found their place. Marking a return after a period of (sonic) reflection, Cestrum Nocturnum is an album of remembrance and renewal. Through a lattice of self-sampled piano, fragmented voices, field recordings, and transient digital traces, Alexiadis composes a space of warmth—an electronic tapestry woven from the ephemeral. Across six pieces, sound unfolds like memory: layered, textured, dissolving at the edges yet leaving an imprint. A meditation on the cyclical nature of being and the often unnoticed beauty that quietly persists, even in the darkest hours. Cestrum Nocturnum is both a shelter and a signal.

Hey, hard rock and metal fans—ready for another classic, early ‘90s album that never before made it to vinyl here in the States? Did we hear you say “Yeah!?” Then may we present Tyketto: Don’t Come Easy! This is another great, rockin’ record that got lost in the grunge craze that swept the music industry, and, just like our recent reissue of Wildside’s Under the Influence, it’s the debut release from a band that should have blown up much bigger than they did. You no doubt remember their single “Forever Young;” but the rest of the album offers melodic hard rock of the highest order, especially on tracks like “Burning Down Inside” and the power ballad “Standing Alone.” Excellent vocal work from former Waysted frontman Danny Vaughn, too. Remastered for vinyl by Mike Milchner at Sonic Vision…teal with white swirl vinyl, complete with printed inner sleeve!

Marty Willson-Piper is an English guitarist, singer, and songwriter best known as a longtime member of the Australian band The Church (1980–2013). With a career spanning over 45 years, he has contributed to a wide range of musical projects, including his solo work, collaborations with All About Eve and The Saints, and his own band, Noctorum.

In 2025, Willson-Piper launched Archaeological Dig - Volume 1, the first in a planned trilogy of releases where he re-records over 30 songs from his extensive catalog. This re-imagined collection features ten songs from different time periods, played with strings, acoustics, piano, and keyboards while still incorporating bass, drums, and multi-layered vocals. The album revisits material from his solo career—including selections from In Reflection (1987), which also received a Record Store Day 2025 reissue, and Art Attack (1988)—as well as songs from his tenure with The Church, drawing from landmark albums like Heyday (1985) and Starfish (1988).

Included in Volume 1 are fan favorites like "Tristesse," originally featured on Heyday (1985), and "Spark," from the platinum-selling Starfish (1988). These songs highlight the diversity of Willson-Piper’s catalog and showcase his evocative songwriting and signature guitar work.

Adding to the album’s distinctive presentation, the cover art for Archaeological Dig features a themed sci-fi illustration, with each of the three volumes depicting Willson-Piper in a different setting alongside UFOs. The release is available across all planets and throughout the galaxy via the In Deep boutique label in conjunction with Schoolkids Records.

Blending psychedelic rock, folk, and alternative influences, Willson-Piper’s music remains deeply atmospheric and introspective. Beyond his recording career, he is also an avid vinyl collector, music historian, and passionate champion of independent artistry.

2CELLOS are back with their third album Celloverse, which returns to the sound and concept of their self-titled debut, building on Luka Sulic & Stjepan Hauser's unique ability to re-imagine current and classic rock and pop songs with their own extraordinary energy — blasting instrumental music off into a whole new Celloverse. The album includes audio recordings of their YouTube releases of "Thunderstruck" and "I Will Wait" as well as new takes on songs such as Avicii's "Wake Me Up," Iron Maiden's "The Trooper" and another Michael Jackson favourite "They Don't Care About Us." The title song is a 2CELLOS original, and to top it all off, there's an unforgettable guest collaboration with their good friend, Lang Lang on the Paul McCartney classic "Live and Let Die." A forgotten tale, long buried beneath the snows of time, is about to be retold. “Midvintersagor” (‘Midwinter Sagas’) is the first music ever composed by Örnatorpet, a landmark in both personal and artistic discovery. Originally self-released in a small cassette run, this unaltered reissue allows listeners to experience the album exactly as it was conceived – pure, unrefined, and brimming with the wonder of creation.

At its core, “Midvintersagor” is a soundtrack to an unwritten legend. Each track weaves a narrative steeped in medieval fantasy, channelling the essence of forgotten folklore and the grandeur of winter’s stillness. Inspired by the interludes and atmospheric passages of 90s black metal, Örnatorpet sought to craft an instrumental world as evocative as the landscapes of his native Sweden.

Since its inception in 2018, Örnatorpet has become one of the foremost torchbearers of dungeon synth. With no formal musical training, he followed only instinct and inspiration, carving out a path that has since led him to the forefront of the genre. “Midvintersagor” is where that journey began – an unpolished gem gleaming with the spirit of discovery, now unearthed for a new audience to behold.

The second disc marks the awakening, shaking off the haze with Beautiful Struggle, where abrasive loops, industrial bass surges, and dissonant synth layers build tension. Echoes of Fate condenses the album's ethos, unleashing pulsating stabs and humming rhythms that slice through the mix with razor-sharp precision. The eponymous We Don't Own, We Create is an electronic ode to the creative process, where haunting vocal loops weave through deep, trippy synth lines, blurring the boundaries between organic and synthetic. Closing on Mizze, the journey dissolves into pure introspection, fading into the ether.

Der Dresdner Komponist und Produzent Sven Helbig kreierte anlässlich des 80. Jahrestages des Endes des Zweiten Weltkriegs das Requiem A, das die Opfer des Krieges ehrt und ein tiefes Plädoyer für den Frieden darstellt. Requiem A vereint liturgische und neue Texte. Das ‘A’ im Titel steht für ‘Anfang’ und mahnt in poetischen Bildern zu Versöhnung und Neubeginn. „Aufbruch“, „Asche“ und „Atmen“ sind Schlüsselwörter in den Texten, die einen Weg aus der Trauer in das Leben suchen.

Die Uraufführung fand am 9. Februar 2025 in der Dresdner Kreuzkirche statt, aufgeführt vom Dresdner Kreuzchor, der Sächsischen Staatskapelle und dem gefeierten Bassbariton René Pape. Am 8. Mai, dem 80. Jahrestag des Ende des Zweiten Weltkrieges, wird das Werk auf dem Heldenplatz vor der Hofburg in Wien aufgeführt. Die Aufnahme erscheint am 9. Mai 2025 bei der Deutschen Grammophon. Dieses ergreifende Werk soll als universelle Botschaft der Erinnerung, der Versöhnung und des kulturellen Austauschs dienen.

Hearing a submarine eruption and finding natal comfort in the warm, fragrant smoke that only wants to sheathe all your edges. The circus has left, only placards remain. And the snow. Look how the flakes sway to your feet without effort - any distance is misleading, illusory. There’s only dream and memory – the two wings of a bird that flaps with an ocean wave, blinks with an eye of a lighthouse. Fragile, you could be dreaming not alone, holding hands with the core of things. The molten core, like touching ice. You could be dreaming. Dreaming in perfect memories of shapes imperfect. Dreaming of the earth raining from the sky, of the wind inside the sea, of the lighthouse & the ship kissing, of exotic fishes in the bay of your ear. Everything is real. If you play. The first release to document the solo cello work of musician and composer Lucy Railton, the 40-minute composition Blue Veil recorded at Église du Saint-Esprit in Paris invites listeners into the realm of precision-tuned states of resonance: states made manifest through Railton's careful traversal of her cello's most subtle acoustic characteristics as they harmonically interlock with mind's embodied modalities of attention and imagination. Blue Veil arises out of, is sustained in and finally dissolves back into Railton's momentary presence with her intimate connection to the cello, a way of hearing that allows for a deeper engagement with harmonic resonance, one that opens a space for immediate encounters of mind and sound. Railton's exploratory practice of harmonic perception emerges from a focus on the physical qualities of intervallic and chordal sounds, their textural qualities, degrees of friction, and inner pulsations. Composing in the moment guided by resonances within the cello's body, her own, and their shared vibrational space, Railton moves through Blue Veil by giving sounds what they ask for: sounds of pure texture manifesting as a move through temporal transparency, sounds of rough texture marking regions of dimensionally dense space. Railton's creative and highly refined use of just intonation harmony deforms sound's inner movements in ways that suggest a mode of listening that actively supplies imagery of sounds implied or completely absent rather than merely savouring those fully present. This active mode of "listening-with", playfully and semi-metaphorically referred to by Railton as "sing-along music", allows listening to reflexively participate in the music's movement as it gradually passes through richly saturated domains of harmonic imagination. And just as the precision-tuned tones of Blue Veil lose their individuality when fusing multifaceted uniformity, listening's structures of reference and recognition dissolve into nameless waves of intensity, continuously unfolding themselves upon and merging with the listener. Blue Veil is the result of a deep exploration of the inner worlds of tuning, an undertaking in turn informed by and emerging out of Railton's realisations of the music of Catherine Lamb and Ellen Arkbro, her collaborative work with Kali Malone and Stephen O'Malley as well as her interpretive practice in performing the work of Maryanne Amacher, Morton Feldman and others.

I think I call it “Haifisch”, the german word for shark. Why? I don’t know. I think it sounds like an electrified diving animal!

Bill and Neil met deep in the mountains 20 years ago.
With work drying up in the mountains, they tobogganed into the city to find their calling.

For years in dim garages, they studied with diligence strange hieroglyphs projected on the wall by the reflection of fluorescent lamps through emptied vessels.
At first, none of it made sense. All they knew was that it was important.

They began posting their findings online, and after a time of thinking they may have gone crazy, they began to receive anonymous messages: “Click here to join a guild of amazing artists: link redacted.”; “Follow me, and I’ll follow you back. Let’s grow together!”; “Do you want 10k+ follows? We can help!”
This was the encouragement they had been waiting so eagerly for. And so on they went. They joined a few guilds and continued to hone their practice, mining their depths, searching for that ineffable thing, whatever it was, wherever it was locked away.
After years of deep contemplation, the breaking of sacred tools, fiddling around, and the collection of various bevelled talismans, a revelation struck.

Two fantastic thoughts struck them both simultaneously.
These are those thoughts.
