Omon Breaker aka Maksym Nazarov is a DJ and musician who grew up in Kyiv, Ukraine originally from Dnipro. In his early works, he delved into questions of electronic culture and its impact on his life. As a result of his musical development and his quest for forging his own sound image defined by breakbeats and grooves reminiscent of early 90s electronica combined with the edge of modern techno, he released his first vinyl split 12" with D.Dan on Standard Deviation - the label from the ? club in 2021. Meanwhile, he quickly established his DJ path in Ukraine as a skilled performer, even becoming a resident at Kyiv's first LGBTQ+ friendly club Crest. Following the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Nazarov was forced to leave his home and relocate to Berlin. In this new city, he came under the wing of BITE where he debuted with his track 'Stinger' from their recent VA and played the label showcase at Berghain in April 2023. While acclimatising and reflecting on his intense life experiences, Omon Breaker began work on his EP in which he seeks to express his emotions brought on by the tragic situations in his life: the loss of home, loved ones, and love itself. Compromat is Nazarov's first solo vinyl release where he attempts to musically depict his inner world shaped by the tragedies in his life.

Maurice Louca & his band Elephantine announce Moonshine, shining brightly with a live, raw, collective sound. Maurice Louca's band is incredible: double drummers Tommaso Cappellato & Özün Usta, Piero Bittolo Bon on alto, Daniel Gahrton on baritone and Isak Hedtjärn on clarinet, Rasmus Svale Kjærgård Lund on tuba, Rosa Brunello on bass, Els Vandeweyer on vibraphone, Louca on guitar/lap steel/synth.

The Two Sides Of Mary Wells is the seventh studio album by soul singer Mary Wells, released in 1966. Wells' career had drastically changed from just six years before when the then-teenage Wells first recorded songs for Motown. This album mixed traditional pop with more earthier and uptown soul songs. Wells released a modest hit with the Motown-esque "Dear Lover", which hit the top ten of the R&B charts.

It also includes some great interpretations by Wells of classic tracks as: "Satisfaction", "In The Midnight Hour", "My World Is Empty Without You" and "The Boy From Ipanema" a.o.

After refining their dark and seductive vision of alternative/gothic metal to surreal, cinematic levels with three EPs and a full-length album, The Cause of Shipwreck, behind them, the Assen-based Blackbriar continue to set their sails towards the future in 2023, signing with Nuclear Blast Records and working towards their second full-length album, again accompanied by long-time collaborator Joost van den Broek.

Formed in 2012 by Zora Cock, René Boxem, Bart Winters, and Frank Akkerman, they crafted their first single in 2014 with “Ready to Kill,” but it was 2015’s second single “Until Eternity” that truly propelled them into the scene. A sweeping track with an equally compelling and beautiful video, it continues to draw many to the act with over 18.1 million views since its debut. Taking advantage of the growing buzz surrounding the band, they independently recorded and released their first EP, Fractured Fairytales, as well as acquiring a second guitarist in Robin Koezen. This EP layed down an impressive foundation for the band’s ethereal and breathtaking sound and brought about new opportunities for the act, including tour dates in The Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, France, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Hungary, and more, where the band played alongside Epica, Halestorm, In This Moment, Delain and MaYan. To keep moving ahead with full control of their creative ideals, the band successfully crowdfunded their follow-up EP, We’d Rather Burn, and brought it to life in October 2018. In the time following, keyboardist Ruben Wijga (ex-Re-Vamp) took a larger role within the band and began playing shows, after being involved in the songwriting process since Fractured Fairytales.

A busy 2019 followed, the band released a haunting single in May entitled “Snow White and Rose Red.” A duet with Ulli Perhonen, their take on the Grimm’s fairytale featured striking cinematic visuals to accompany the spellbinding track. Continuing to dig deeper into fairytale realms, Blackbriar closed the year with their third EP, Our Mortal Remains. Ever-sharpening their intoxicating blend of storytelling and breathtaking musicianship, the EP brought about new live exposures for the act as well. Small, sold out tours with Epica in 2019 and 2020, as well as a sold out opening for Delain’s Apocalypse & Chill release show in Utrecht followed, with more future plans then being put on hold due to COVID-19. Championing their continued independence, which included everything from songwriting, maintaining their web presence, overseeing merch, as well as shooting and producing their own videos and photos, Blackbriar reached out to their ever-growing and loyal fanbase for assistance to make their full-length album a reality in 2020. Fans fervently heeded the call, reaching the € 25,000 goal in under 24 hours and ending with a total of € 70,000 and achieving all five stretch goals. An impressive accomplishment for an independent act, which also showcases a strong internet presence with over 214,000 YouTube subscribers and 46.1 million channel views as well as 27.6 million Spotify streams and 150,000 monthly streamers on the platform.

Third season and third album in 2023 for infamous french punk legends Ludwig Von 88. That's what happens when you turn 40. In one year, you make up for everything you haven't done in four decades. And since Ludwig Von 88 have always done a lot, they catch up a lot. After "L'Hiver des Crêtes" ("Winter on the ridges") and "Le Printemps du Pogo" ("Spring's Pogo"), here comes "L'été du No Future!" ("Summer of No Future").

Dan Auerbach’s debut solo album, Keep It Hid, returns to physical formats, with the seminal 2009 collection being reissued on vinyl and CD via Easy Eye Sound - the label that Keep It Hid first inspired him to create. The fourteen-song debut marked Auerbach’s first major work outside of The Black Keys, helping to establish his multifaceted career as a Grammy®-winning producer, mentor to emerging talent and founder of Easy Eye Sound, which is now Billboard’s reigning Blues Label Of The Year. Keep It Hid was originally recorded by Auerbach as he was building his first home studio in Akron, Ohio - a precursor to his Easy Eye Sound Studio in Nashville, where Auerbach now records and produces most of the label’s current releases. Inspired by trips to many of his all-time favorite rooms - from Suma Recording in Cleveland to Robin Hood in Texas to Toe Rag in London - Auerbach discovered a passion for studio work that remains at the center of his musical world nearly fifteen years on. „III“ wurde ursprünglich 1978 privat veröffentlicht und war bei Sammlern schon lange begehrt. Die Band – ohne Sänger – hat sich nämlich nun mit den Schick Sisters, die ebenfalls aus der Steiermark kommen, zusammengetan und veröffentlichen gemeinsam das Album „We Are One“ auf CD und als limitierte (300 only!) LP.

Geplant war zwar nur ein Song, doch die gemeinsame Arbeit im Studio hat sich für alle Beteiligten als derart fruchtbar herausgestellt, dass die Entscheidung ein Album aufzunehmen gar nicht getroffen werden musste.

Neben orchestrierten Stücken, darunter ein Song zum Weltfrauentag ‚We Are‘ (mit Arrangement von Christian Kolonovits), gibt es auch eine Gast-Performance von Opus Sänger Herwig Rüdisser. Das Artwork basiert auf der ‚Paradiso ‘ Werk-Trilogie des österreichischen Ausnahme-Malers Ernst Fuchs.

Here, they intentionally embrace aspects of jazz, but contrary to expectation, this only makes their unclassifiable essence more apparent. Olivier Fairfield (FET NAT, Timber Timbre) and his co- conspirator Simone Provencher (VICTIME ) are well aware of how elusiveness can be wielded persuasively. Their inimitable sound is often a difficult one to describe.

In 2020, the previous band formation announced its breakup, leaving Nelson at a pivotal turning point musically, and more broadly, in life, to determine what came next.

Over the next couple of years, Ayala grappled with issues of loss, addiction, coping with pain, relationships gone awry, and relationships anew. He also experimented more sonically, spending countless hours in the studio jamming with friends and using (Covid) boredom as an incubator for creativity. The result of this time period is Lonely Citizen, Indian Askin's third album. Lonely Citizen finds Nelson exploring his own personal story in perhaps the band's most intimate work to date.

Musically, he nods to his Latin roots, with a focus on percussion and groove being a thread throughout the record. Simultaneously, the lyrics find Ayala taking a magnifying glass to his personal reflections on his hometown, Amsterdam.

He says on the album, "It's about feeling sick and tired, and maybe even ashamed, of the place I grew up in and what it's become. And especially what I've become while living my life here. I was born in this machine and I will forever be a part of it, yes. I just can't shake the feeling that I need to leave this noise behind."

Darkwave artist Harsh Symmetry returns with sophomore album "Imitation" via Fabrika Records. Los Angeles-based musician Julian Sharwarko has swiftly carved out a commanding presence with his darkwave project. Sharwarko's adeptness at bridging the gap between the past and present is palpable, as he seamlessly blends influences from genre titans such as Depeche Mode, The Cure, New Order, Echo and the Bunnymen, The Teardrop Explodes, and Human League, while also incorporating elements from contemporary acts like Twin Tribes and Boy Harsher. Harsh Symmetry's second album, "Imitation," spans the chasm of darkwave and synthpop, a world-weary modern album, warmed by the solid embrace of nostalgia. Astonishingly, the entire album was entirely recorded and performed by Shawarko, in a remarkably quick turnaround from his last year's critically acclaimed debut album, 2022's "Display Model." Releasing a new album every year during the 1980s was par for the course with bands like The Cure and Siouxsie and the Banshees, as well as other highly prolific bands such as his labelmates Lebanon Hanover, but this level of artistic output is rarely matched today. "A lot of the material was informed by isolation and struggling with the paradox of wanting to be original yet feeling like your entire identity is built on mimicry," he admits. "The album was recorded as I was preparing to move out of the city I grew up in, I guess that kind of nudged me to think about what I'm doing more, and the place my work might have in the world." That mindset led to a pleasant surprise during his recent tour, which he describes as a 'really interesting and exciting experience.' This year, Harsh Symmetry graced the stages of Wave Gotik Treffen and the Grey Scale Festival in Munich, to much audience acclaim, cementing the project's status as an essential artist in the international darkwave scene. Vor ,Midcity" erwartete keins der Mitglieder (Rapper Daveed Diggs und die Produzenten Jonathan Snipes und William Hutson), dass ihr kantiger Rap ein Publikum finden würde. It’s always exciting to hear collaborations from two familiar faces — especially when the results are completely unexpected. “Sinking” and “Cue The Rhythm” from VNSSA & Lenny Kiser are two of those collabs. The two artists got together to exchange some ideas, and we’re thrilled with the outcome.

Both moody and comforting, VNSSA’s vocals on the title track adds a deep undertone to keep it floating, while the other’s breakbeat sensibility gives off an air of old-school rave vibes.

GAF are back!!! This time under their Estrella de la Muerte configuration and with a gateway musical behemoth double album into the cosmic unknown.
The prolific project, helmed by local Canarian anchorman Mladen Kurajica, dwells deep into esoteric rock genres and this time, they waste no time in plunging the listener into their brave new type of cosmic rock with a deeply influenced krautrock voyage of 70’s jamming and psychonautic exploration.
Recorded over three days in the cultural space of El Tanque, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, at the height of the covid pandemic of 2020 and during one of the hottest summers to date, the band entered the space with no plan in mind deciding instead to approach the recording sessions without any preconceived ideas or pre-composed songs. Clean out of external influences and ready to experiment they loaded in all their available gear, including an array of modular synths, in order to create a new approach to song writing and flesh out some ideas for a future album in situ. The very process of that search, through pure improvisation and jamming, became the album we’re presenting here.
No overdubs or subsequent edits were done, except for cutting some songs so that they could fit on the album. Almost 5 hours of recordings in total, finally reaching a 7 track, 69-minute double LP. All the reverb heard on the record is the natural reverb of El Tanque, a 16 second tail natural reverb recorded with several room mics at different locations in the venue. Eventually this became the first fully instrumental album by the Estrella de la Muerte configuration, with a line up of 7 musicians (Gaf y Estrella de la Muerte are normally a sextet).
Enter then, this inspired selection of psychedelically damaged tunes, 70’s space rock, psychoacoustics and Kosmishe inspired jamming. This is healing music for your mind altering journeys. The titled Pyramids here serving not only as a gateway to the cosmic unknown but also as an exploratory symbol of the bands willingness to freely embrace their subconscious inner flows into a cosmic collective. Ecstatic music for our times!

There’s an eclectic mix of junglism on offer here, from deep end esoteric to traditional tearout, flowing toward more ‘outsider’ techno, dubstep & bass music influences on plate 2.

After the not-quite-reissue of 'Prince of Parrot Shooters/The Aqueducts of Cannel Island', wide-eyed mystic and tireless searcher of the netherworld Spencer Clark returns to the Discrepant fold with 'Barbados Wild Horses' under his Mo-nopoly Child Star Searchers moniker. Recorded while Clark was living in the Canary Island's by Tupperware and Lagoss' Dani Tupper, 'Barbados Wild Horses' brims with insular romanticism and escapist bliss, with sunkissed synth-lines interwoven around his trademark hand percussion bouncy rhythms reflecting the scenery of the islands as a lib-erating utopia.

With track titles taking an almost self explanatory stance, the album starts with the crepuscular vibes of 'Upper Roman-tico', a poetic meditation on the lovelorn potential of the fading sunlight, setting the tone for the rest of the tour. 'Lava Tube Solos on Horseback', the first of two tracks featuring Sun Araw's Cameron Stallones, sees the latter's guitar noo-dles riding the cascading rhythms and digital choir harmonies while in 'Neopreno Antiguo' he solos freely around an hypnotic synth line. Finishing off the escapade, 'Nightcharcos Punta Brava' drifts in ethereal starlit contemplation, with the percussion taking a more backseat approach, setting into a steady pulse for Clark's gliding synth tapestries. Nightswimming as transcendence. Another piece of the fascinating puzzle Clark's been assembling for over two dec-ades now, 'Barbados Wild Horses' glimmers with a laid back sensibility that's as unhinged as enveloping. Not an easy feat by any measure. Clark succeeds again.

Oráculo Records long time partner in crime Carlos Grabstein rules Berlin based MISERIA records. Started as a DIY cassette and digital label back in 2021, the imprint is clearly focused and specialized in ultra-rare synth based darkwave compilations. Now in 2023 MISERIA joins forces with Oráculo Records to present a selection of his best releases to date in vinyl format for the very first time, presented in DOUBLE GATEFOLD format in a ONE-OFF truly limited edition of 300 copies lacquered pressed on 180 gr. high quality solid BLACK vinyl. All tracks have been specially mastered for vinyl by Daniel Hallhuber at Young and Cold Studios (Germany).

Max & Intro was a short-lived duo formed by Vincent Max and Intro Johnnie in Belgrade. In 1984 they composed “Ostavi Sve” (in English: “Leave Everything”), probably the greatest ex-Yugoslavian minimal synth song of all times with heavy rotation on radio and even TV appearances. It was a tribute to Fairlight synthesizers, in that time non affordable for these young musicians and became an obsession, especially for Max. In 1985 was published their first and only release “We Design The Future” including “Ostavi Sve” and the B-side “Beogradska Devojka”, another synth gem.

In the late 1980s, Disco was taking a backseat to the burgeoning psychedelic scene in San Francisco, marking a pivotal shift in musical culture. A dynamic transformation was underway as the younger generation sought a fresh auditory adventure, all while the devastating AIDS epidemic cast a somber pall over the city's nightlife. Amidst this evolving backdrop, a subtle yet distinct sonic movement quietly emerged within the confines of San Francisco’s vibrant club scene, often referred to as "The Beat." Although Hip-Hop, New Wave, Gothic, Punk, and the burgeoning Modern Rock genre held considerable sway, the pre-RAVE clubs in SF witnessed the fusion of these genres into a unique amalgam of sound that insiders dubbed “The Beat.” This musical tapestry encompassed everything from Hip-Hop and Freestyle to Industrial, New Wave, Boogie, Miami Bass, and Techno – the unifying thread being the distinctive vibe that characterised this eclectic mix.

As House, Techno, and Raving gradually gained prominence along the West Coast, a distinctive interpretation of these evolving sounds took root. Drawing inspiration from influential hubs like New York, Chicago, Detroit, Europe, and notably the UK, which saw a wave of talented young DJs migrate to California, San Francisco became the backdrop for its own version of the second Summer of Love. While the exact chronology might spark debate – some recalling '92, while others leaning towards '93 – what remains indisputable is the era spanning from 1990 to 1994, an unparalleled epoch of exuberant dancefloor revelry on the western shores.

In the face of limited backing from major labels or established independent dance music entities of the time, a grassroots movement of labels and producers emerged organically, ardently championing this distinct sound and catapulting it onto the global stage. This sonic identity was deeply influenced by “the Beat,” acting as a creative wellspring that informed the musical landscape. While the tracks compiled in these volumes might not encompass the entirety of this transformative musical epoch, they offer a vivid snapshot of the melodious tapestry that coloured San Francisco and the broader West Coast during that era. Each track featured stands as a 100% Sure Shot that was played heavily by DJ Spun back in those very heady days.

The second installment of this remarkable journey into the underground scene maintains the same profound level of depth and significance as its precursor. Showcasing tracks from Electroliners, High Lonesome Soundsystem, Single Cell Orchestra, DJ Emma, and Spun's own Central Fire project, all harmoniously enclosed within the captivating and arresting artwork by Villain Standard, this release stands shoulder to shoulder with its forerunner. Zuletzt hatte sie dort zusammen mit Sam Beam (IRON & WINE) das Album "Love Letter for Fire" veröffentlicht, nun folgt ihr Soloalbum. Es ist ein Album voll wunderbarer Songs, die ursprünglich und voller Energie sind, und von einer Künstlerin stammen, die über viel Lebenserfahrung und emotionale Tiefe verfügt. JESCA HOOP zeigt in ihren Liedern ihr einzigartiges Talent für musikalische Erzählkunst und folgt weiter ihrer Berufung. Before the Odysee, there was the Iliad; a tale of the golden age of heroes and warriors.'

The idea behind the new Iliads series is to return to the sound of the golden age of Jungle/Drum & Bass, and more specifically the original ‘heroes’ of the Odysee label.
This second in the series pays homage to the unique sound of the Mirage releases. The influence of these releases on the SD sound that followed has often been overlooked, principally because it was assumed that the ‘Mirage’ moniker was simply another pseudonym for Source Direct, when in actual fact it was a lethal combination of the powerful engineering and arrangement skills of Jim Baker (Source Direct) and the sound selection and co-production of Odysee’s founder, Tilla Kemal (T-Mirage).

Face In The Shadows immediately opens with that slightly darker feel, with tracks like Feel My Dreams and Stonekiller in mind. The trademark SD style of break switches (aptly named ‘call & response) are immediately evident, although the Funky Mule gives the track its primary momentum. The sound selection is eerie, focusing on the 70’s Film-Noire, and deep Electro in line with Tilla’s particular preferences. The spoken word quotes are also unmistakably ‘Mirage-esque.’

Regenesis is a classic Odysee B-side track; lighter, more experimental and Jazzy in it’s feel. It showcases intricate and crisp rolling break work, and a beautifully refined selection of real stand- out musical quotes; from the sweet R&B-esque vocal ad-libs to the lush 70’s style sleaze of the Rhodes rolls. The interaction of these elements is the glue that holds this tune together.

The Darkness Within is the final track of the E.P. and it is the arrangement of samples that really emulates the ‘Mirage’ sound. Tilla & Jim were very particular about grouping sounds to work with & answer each other in each section of a tune. Samples were often sourced from obscure Film OST’s or rare electro albums which had sample diggers scratching their heads for many years! This track is dubbed out deeper, with a punching & rolling Soulpride features as the hero break and a repetitive deep chord stab forming the foundation of the tune.

Absolutely essential funk-fuelled, disco flavoured business from Le'O Roy with ‘Pound For Pound’ on the mighty Golden Flamingo Records. Produced by Bobby Brinson, and P&P’s very own Peter Brown, you’ll struggle to find four and a half more electrifying, feel-good, funk-infused minutes of music than these.

Pound for pound one of the best cuts of this scene, it’s an early ‘80s boogie leaning blend taking the best bits from disco, funk and soul, and adding a heavy dose of NYC spice to the mix. Punchy funk guitar licks, a driving beat laced with hypnotic cowbells and an intoxicating, gritty yet golden dose of vocal power. A rare as hen’s teeth record finally given the official reissue it’s been crying out for.

ONE OF THE RAREST MAINSTREAM ALBUMS FEATURING CLASSIC ATCQ SAMPLE GETS REISSUED FOR THE FIRST TIME ON VINYL

Jack Wilkins' highly sought-after Mainstream Records album "Windows" finally gets reissued on vinyl on Wewantsounds forty five years after its inital release. Produced by Bob Shad in 1973 the album, which is on many collectors' want-list, is especially cult for his rendition of Freddie Hubbard's classic "Red Clay," sampled by A Tribe Called Quest on ("Sucka Nigga") and Chance The Rapper. The album will be released in a deluxe gatefold sleeve featuring never-seen session photos and new liner notes by leading UK journalist Kevin Le Gendre.

A month after the release of his debut album as Tambores En Benirras, 2021’s fabulous Orbe Dotodo, Graham Newby’s life changed forever. After years living with a visual impairment, his sight had deteriorated so much that he was declared “registered blind”. For a man who had spent decades dividing his time between travelling, DJing, running clubs and lengthy sessions in his own studio, it was a genuinely life-changing moment.

It was against this backdrop, and the need to alter his working methods, that Ondas Horizontales, the second Tambores En Benirras album took shape. Inspired by a mixture of daydreaming, visualisation, immersion in other people’s music (escapism that provided mood enhancement, rather than a specific set of ideas) and long periods spent soaking up the sun in Ibiza, the album is the most vividly detailed, sonically colourful, and sun-soaked collection that Newby has released to date.

Newby’s declining sight forced him to stop spending long spells staring at a screen and undoubtedly slowed down the production process. Yet it also allowed him to reconnect with his emotions, appreciate the storytelling and mood-shifting potential of music, and mine mind’s eye memories of places and spaces that have meant much to him over the years.

The results are undeniably stunning. Designed with horizontal listening in mind, the set distils a range of musical and real-life inspirations –or, as he puts it, “ambient soundtracks, cosmic journeys, Balearic rhythms and poolside sessions” – into ten mesmerising and magical tracks; an undulating, slow-motion journey that’s as breath-taking as it is beguiling.

Newby sets the tone with ‘Mi Sueno Vibe En Reverb’, a swelling, slow-burn ambient masterpiece that tiptoes between hope and melancholia, before flitting between imaginary sunset soundtracks (‘Estrellas En Mastella’, where lilting pedal steel sounds, bubbling electronics and shuffling breakbeats catch the ear), kaleidoscopic sun-up beats (the gorgeous warmth of ‘Generadora De Reyos’), enveloping beatless soundscapes (‘Templos Del Sol’, a drowsy drift in becalmed waters under the heat of the mid-afternoon sun), and dubby, loved-up lusciousness (‘Mokono’).

As the album progresses, bobbing and weaving on an ocean of vibrant chords, pulsing melodies and heart-stopping melodies, there’s no sign of Newby’s inspiration waving. ‘Alma Hablando’ channels the spirit of mid-80s ‘worldbeat’ and douses it in layers of Balearic bliss, while ‘Extrensor Entragado’ recalls the head-nodding haziness of his best Gripper productions of old while combining them with the musical equivalent of a humid summer breeze. Bachs Suiten für Violoncello, die zwischen 1717 und 1723 komponiert wurden, stehen an der Spitze des Solocello-Repertoires, seit Pablo Casals sie vor weit über einem Jahrhundert wiederentdeckte und aufzuführen begann. In drei Aufnahmen für Sony Classical und in Dutzenden von Live-Aufführungen auf der ganzen Welt sind die Suiten zu einer Art künstlerischer Signatur für Yo-Yo Ma geworden, der für die Aufnahme von 1983 den ersten seiner 19 GRAMMY®-Awards gewann. This session, recorded at Studio Pathé-Magellan October 11 and 14, 1955 in Paris, is the first of three recordings released for the Barclay label between 1955 and 1956.

For his first recording-date in Paris Chet decided to tackle Bob Zieff’s compositions, the same ones that Dick Twardzik had picked up in a hurry at the Alvin Hotel on his way to board the liner Ile-de-France. Violonist Dick Wetmore had just recorded the eight tunes, and Bob Zieff had had just enough time to revise the arrangements. Chet neither a champion sight-reader nor a big fan of rehearsals, hadn’t yet played them in front of an audience. From that first French session only the reel referred to as a ‘production tape’ remains.

This ‘complete Bob Zieff’ gives an impression of unity that wellmatches the suite concept intended by the composer; as for “The Girl From Greenland”, its role comes as a codicil. The record of Chet’s quartet with Twardzik has now appeared in Ben Ratliff’s book “Jazz, a Critic’s Guide to The 100 Most Important Recordings” (The New York Times Essential Library); it’s a fitting mention for an album that was long-unrecognised in the the United States…

"Ich bin so stolz auf mein neues Album. Ich wollte eine abwechslungsreiche musikalischer Reise zusammenstellen, die meinen klassischen Hintergrund, mein französisch-jüdisches Erbe, meine Unterstützung für Frauen in der Musik und meine Liebe zu Filmen und Anime widerspiegelt und verschiedene Genres, Kulturen und Generationen verbindet. Besonders emotional ist die Verbindung der durch ihre Großmutter zur Geige gekommenen Musikerin jedoch zu den Filmen Das Leben ist schön und Das Tagebuch der Anne Frank. Ein ebenfalls sehr emotionales Stück auf Cinéma ist das neue Arrangement vom Thema des Protagonisten "Zeyn" aus dem Oscar-nominierten libanesischen Sozialdrama Capernaum, das Komponist und Film-Produzent Khaled Mouzanar eigens für Esther Abrami geschrieben hat. Für die Erstellung der Arrangements von Cinéma hat Esther Abrami mit einem Team von Arrangeur*Innen zusammengearbeitet. Bis auf das ursprünglich für Klavier geschriebene Stück "Comptine d'un autre été, l'après-midi" aus Die fabelhalte Welt der Amelie, das Esther Abrami mit einer Loop-Station auf der Geige neu aufgebaut hat, und "Libertango" von Astor Piazzolla aus Le Pont du Nord, für das sie nur von dem Gitarristen Marcin begleitet wird, ist jedes Stück auf dem Album mit Orchester produziert. Die Aufnahmen zu Cinéma fanden mit dem City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra unter der Leitung des Dirigenten und Arrangeurs Ben Palmer in den legendären Smecky Studios in Prag statt.

Vor einigen Jahren, irgendwo in einem Tour Van in Idaho, wurde den Chastity Belt Mitgliedern Julia Shapiro, Gretchen Grimm, Lydia Lund und Annie Truscott zu langweilig und sie fanden eine recht ungewöhnliche Beschäftigung: Sie fingen an einander Komplimente zu machen, sehr detailliert und umfangreich. Das mögen wir an dir am Liebsten; Deshalb lieben wir dich. An dieses Bild denke ich die ganze Zeit, die Vier, wie sie sich den anderen gegenüber auf diese Weise offenbaren, freiwillig. Es fällt schwer sich vorzustellen, dass das andere Bands tun würden. Jenseits ihrer doch recht omnipräsenten Social Media Seiten mit tonnen von Duck Face Schnuten, der ,I don't care" Attitüde, liegt ganz am Grund eine Ehrlichkeit und Intimität als auch eine emotionale Brillanz, die alles was Chastity Belt kreieren, verschmelzen lässt. Simple ausgedrückt: Sie sind witzig aber auch in der Lage sehr verletzlich zu sein. Giant Vagina und Pussy Weed Beer, zwei Highlights ihres 2013er Debüts No Regerts, wurden prompt gefolgt von dem großartigen aber leicht zu übersehenden Happiness. Bei dem 2015er Time to Go Home habe ich ständig meine jüngere, unstetere Version vor Augen gehabt. Der kommende Juni markiert die Veröffentlichung von I Used to Spend So Much Time Alone, ihr drittes und bisher bestes Album. Mit dem Produzenten Matthew Simms (Wire) live im Juli 2016 in Portland / Oregon (Geburtsstätte einiger ihrer favorisierten Elliot Smith Alben) aufgenommen, ist es ein dunkles und ungewöhnlich schönes Set aus Moody Post Punk, dass die Gefühlsbreite der Band aus Seattle in vollem Ausmaß und nicht durch Humor gefiltert zeigt. Da ist keine Ironie im Titel: Bevor sie Chastity Belt gründete, sah sich Shapiro klar als einsamen Wolf. Das ist keine kleine Geste. Ich kann dieses Album so sehr nachempfinden wie in meinen 20ern: Das ist ein mutiges und oft berauschendes Gewirr aus gemischten Gefühlen und quälenden Melodien, die atemberaubende Angst (This Time of Night) mit schimmernder Erkenntnis (Different Now) und hauchdünner Ungewissheit (Stuck - geschrieben und gesungen von Grimm) verbindet. Es ist eine ernste Platte. Shapiro definiert es wahrscheinlich am besten selbst: ,I wanna be sincere." Als ich die Band frage, wie dieser Text hier werden soll, war ihr einziger Anspruch, dass er kurz, ehrlich und ohne Übertreibung sein soll, Als ich mehr erfahren will sagt Truscott: "Just say that we love each other. „Reparatur“ heißt das am 22. September erscheinende dritte Albums des mehrfachen Amadeus-Preisträgers JOSH. In den zwölf abwechslungsreichen und mit viel Liebe zum Detail eingespielten neuen Songs des Albums zeigt JOSH., dass er es nicht nur versteht, mit humorvollen Texten und unwiderstehlichen Melodien zu unterhalten sondern auch ernstere Themen - wie z.B. seinem Burnout - in eingängige Pop- und Rocksongs zu verpacken. Unüberhörbar ist, dass sich die „Wolke aus Fiktion und Wirklichkeit“, auf die JOSH. sich bei Fragen nach dem autobiografischen Bezug seiner Texte gerne bezieht, diesmal ein klein wenig mehr in Richtung Lebensrealität bewegt hat. Einige der Texte setzen sich nämlich offen mit seiner Krankheit und dem Weg zurück auseinander, so z.B. in „Ich gehör repariert“, einem der absoluten Höhepunkte des Albums. Trotzdem schafft es der gebürtige Wiener souverän, textlich nicht resignativ und düster zu werden sondern stets auch das eine blaue Stück Himmel am tiefgrauen Firmament zu entdecken. Mit „Reparatur“ präsentiert sich JOSH. 2023 also gereifter denn je, bleibt aber stets unverkennbar er selbst.

'Can I Go Again?', das Debütalbum von Benét (Benét Nutall) aus Richmond, VA, ist eine abwechslungsreiche Sammlung nachdenklicher, dicht gepackter Indie-Pop-, Rock- und Soul-Tracks, die ebenso emotional mitschwingen wie sie unmittelbar und ansteckend sind. Diese Tracks sind es gleichermaßen wert, Herzschmerz zu verarbeiten, mit Freunden zu spielen oder Kraft in der Einsamkeit zu finden. Die Debüt-EP von Benét, "Game Over" (2021), war ein ehrlicher Versuch der Selbstreflexion durch elektronische Dance- und Disco-Atmosphären - die titelgebende Frage ihres Debütalbums dient als Neustart des Arcade-Spiels mit mehr Wissen, Reife und Sicherheit, während Benét sich zu organischerer Instrumentalbegleitung und raffiniertem Songwriting bewegt. Die überschwänglichen und scharfen Gitarrenriffs und die treibende Bassline von "Insensitive" heben Benéts Gesang an, wenn sie über Gefühle von Nervosität, Sehnsucht und die letztendliche Überwindung von beidem mit Selbstsicherheit singen. Bei Clydene Jacksons Debüt-LP von 1975 handelt es sich um ein Smooth-Jazz-Album. Ein Titel allerdings sprengte die anspruchsvolle Musiktradition und wurde von britischen DJs der Modern Soul-Szene aufgegriffen. 'I Need Your Love' wurde in GB und schließlich auch in Europa popular. Es folgte ein längst vergriffener 45er Release. Kent ergänzt die Neuauflage mit 'We're In Love' von der LP, auf der B-Seite.

Vor gerade einmal zwei Jahren veröffentlichten JEREMIAS mit „golden hour“ ihr Debüt. Und was für eines: Auf ausverkaufte Tourneen folgten Streams in Millionenhöhe, Konzerte vor tausenden Fans. Auf dem zweiten Album „Von Wind und Anonymität“ verarbeitet die Band die letzten zwei Jahre im Leben von Sänger Jeremias Heimbach, Bassist Ben Hoffmann, Drummer Jonas Hermann und Gitarrist Oliver Sparkuhle. Es ist ein Aufbruch, der sich in der musikalischen Vielfalt des Albums widerspiegelt und zu dem alle Bandmitglieder beigetragen haben.

Es gibt keine andere Band in Deutschland, die so klingt wie JEREMIAS. Der Nachfolger von „golden hour“ strotz vor raffnierten Harmonien und klugem, reflektiertem Songwriting. Das Album erinnert zuweilen an Größen wie John Legend und Sam Smith, zwischen Sanftheit und Schwere stellt man sich die Band zwangsläufig auf den ganz großen Bühnen vor. Je länger man JEREMIAS auf „Von Wind und Anonymität“ zuhört, desto klarer wird: Das hier ist ein wirklich herausragendes deutschsprachiges Popalbum von einer Band, die ihren ganz eigenen Sound gefunden hat und von diesem Punkt aus losgezogen ist, um Experimente zu wagen. „Von Wind und Anonymität“ handelt von dunklen Zeiten, stellt diesen aber ein Grundvertrauen ins Leben entgegen, gibt sich zuversichtlich und zeugt von einer Band, die wieder gelernt hat, ihrem eigenen Traum zu vertrauen. Und das ist eine sehr gute Nachricht.

Void Terra Firma was Defiance’s second studio album and first album with new singer Steev Esquivel. Defiance belonged to the San Francisco Bay Area thrash scene that gave us bands such as Testament, Exodus, Forbidden, and Death Angel.

This is Bay Area thrash at its finest, listen to standouts tracks like the title track, “Skitz-Illusions,” and “Last Resort (Welcome to Poverty)” for some mighty fine examples of that sound. The record also contains a cover of Iron Maiden’s “Killers”.

The seemingly telepathic connection between the rhythm and lead guitarists sounds phenomenal and newcomer Esquivel also steps up to the plate on this one.

Das Album "La Düsseldorf" ist das Debütalbum der deutschen Krautrock-Band La Düsseldorf. Es wurde im Jahr 1976 veröffentlicht und wurde zu einem kommerziellen Erfolg.

Es gilt als eines der einflussreichsten Alben des Krautrock-Genres und hat zahlreiche Musiker wie Brian Eno beeinflusst. „La Düsseldorf sind definitiv der Soundtrack für die 80er!“

orakelte damals David Bowie. Ihre Kompositionen waren bereits Mitte der 70er Ihrer Zeit voraus und nahmen vieles an Musik und Sound vorweg, was ein paar Jahre später Usus

werden sollte. In Berlin nahmen Bowie & Eno mit „Low“ kurz darauf ihre ganz eigene Version des Krautrock auf, die ohne La Düsseldorfs Erstling nicht denkbar gewesen wäre.



Das Album ist eine Mischung aus experimentellem Rock, elektronischer Musik und psychedelischen Klängen. Die Texte sind größtenteils auf Deutsch und behandeln Themen wie

Liebe, Freiheit und das Leben in der Großstadt. Das Album wurde von Conny Plank produziert, einem bekannten deutschen Musikproduzenten, der auch mit anderen Krautrock-

Bands wie Kraftwerk und Can zusammengearbeitet hat. Neben dem gekonnt ausufernden Titelsong „Düsseldorf“ gilt vor allem das finale Stück „Time“ als Meilenstein.



La Düsseldorf wurde von Klaus Dinger gegründet. Neben Dinger gehörten auch sein Bruder Thomas Dinger und Hans Lampe zur Band, die später mit „Viva“ (1978) und „Individuellos“

(1981) noch zwei weitere kommerziell erfolgreiche Alben veröffentlichte. Dinger gehörte mit Ralf Hütter und Florian Schneider auch zu den ersten Urmitgliedern der elektronischen

Klangpioniere „Kraftwerk“, die er 1971 jedoch bereits nach ein paar Monaten im Streit wieder verließ um gemeinsam mit Michael Rother ihre eigne (legendäre) Krautrock-Band Neu!

zu gründen.

Das neue Album, welches auf das 2018 erschienene Debüt "Embody" des dänischen Liedermachers folgt, wurde erneut in Sebbersund in der Nähe von Ross' Elternhaus mit John Wood aufgenommen. Wood, der vor allem für seine Arbeit an der Seite von John Martyn, Cat Stevens, Nico, Nick Drake, Pink Floyd und anderen bekannt ist, bat dieses Mal seinerseits um eine Zusammenarbeit mit Hjalte, nachdem dieser den legendären Produzenten vor seiner ersten Platte um Rat gebeten hatte. Nach der zerbrechlichen und zurückhaltenden Schönheit des Debüts, gibt es nun ein neues Gefühl des Selbstvertrauens, einen zusätzlichen Biss in den Texten, eine zusätzliche Tiefe in dieser besonderen Stimme. "Ich bin ein besserer Songwriter, ein besserer Sänger und ein besserer Gitarrist geworden", betont Hjalte. "Ich habe jedoch die gleiche Absicht wie beim letzten Mal beibehalten und mich darauf fokusiert, ein Album in voller Länge zu machen und mich dabei absolut und gänzlich auf die Musik zu konzentrieren. "Waves of Haste" ist eine subtile und gleichfalls mutige Erweiterung seines Sounds. Das Album besteht aus neun fesselnden Songs und wurde nach der Begegnung in New York mit Daniel Goodwin von diesem gemischt und gemastert, einem Produzenten, der für seine Arbeit mit Künstlern wie Kevin Morby und Whitney und vielen anderen bekannt ist. Diese Paarung bringt das Beste in Hjaltes Songwriting zum Vorschein, hebt die Gegensätze von Norwegen und New York hervor, gelangt dabei zu etwas gemeinsamen Größerem "Waves Of Haste" klingt gleichzeitig modern und elegant alt(modisch), erinnert an den gefühlvollen Sound der 70er Jahre und ist außergewöhnlich grandios. Die LP - gepresst bei Optimal - kommt als klassich schwarzes Vinyl in aufwendig gestaltetem Klappcover inklusive Prägedruck. Das Artwork wurde entworfen vom erfolgreichen dänischen Maler/Bildhauer Kasper Eistrup (auch ehemals von der Band Kaschmir bekannt). Nach mittlerweile zwölf Jahren Bandgeschichte ist es Zeit, die neue Power Metal Hoffnung WINTERSTORM auf ein neues Level zu heben. Ihr fünftes Album "Everfrost" ist ihr Debut auf AFM Records und zeigt zurecht, dass die deutsche Band mit Gruppen wie Blind Guardian und Rhapsody Of Fire verglichen wird.
Dies liegt vor allem an der Melodie, welche bei WINTERSTORM ganz klar im Vordergrund steht und sich in ohrwurmlastigen Refrains und vielen mehrstimmigen Gesängen widerspiegelt. Dabei verschmelzen markante Elemente verschiedener Metalstile miteinander und erhalten so eine ganz neue Anmutung. "Winter" steht für nordischen Viking und Folk-Metal, "Storm" für schnellen Powermetal, welche zusammen mit epischem und orchestralem Metal in einem neuen Glanz erstrahlen. "Everfrost" ist ein vielseitiges und kraftvolles Album, welches sich hinter gestandenen Genrekollegen nicht verstecken muss.

When South Korean balearic prodigy Mogwaa came to MM Discos with an idea for his rst full-length album, we were a bit surprised.
He said, ‘I want to do an album of bossa tracks with synths, a drum machine and my guitar’. We obviously had to take him up
on that deal.

Fresh from the recent Bandcamp feature on his own brand of danceoor-ready modern boogie, Seungyoung Lee (aka Mogwaa)
arrives back on MM Discos with his - and our - rst full length exercise. With six tracks per side of 80s inuenced synth and bossa
badness, ‘Hazy Dreams’ is an exercise in simplicity, and more proof of the ever-expanding musical horizons of one of the scene’s
most virtuosic instrumentalists.

Pairing a sensitivity to the construction of ambient, funk, bossa and cassette-tape 80s experiments with his own cinematic subtlety,
‘Hazy Dreams’ takes a gentle, minimalistic approach, crafting its own escapist world that oers a welcome diversion from the
steady ow of busy balearica and downtempo.

Opening track ‘Full Bloom’ paints a picture of midsummer at dawn, some clear-skied island where lush vegetation climbs through
hibiscus gardens. ‘Nacimiento’ is an AOR/bossa crossover evoking West Coast yachting in full afternoon, and A3, ‘Soothing’, adds
a touch of wistfulness with reverb-doused guitars over meandering bass motifs.
The easy kick-and-snare combo of ‘Levitation’ sets the scene for a drum machine love aair, unrequited love on the rocks, and
‘Flashback’ plays with short delay trails and o-kilter melodic sequences, where you feel the soft presence of the nebula approaching
at the break of day. Closing out the A-side, ‘Dispatching’ reaches out even further into the imagined cosmos of Mogwaa’s
picture-perfect world, portraying an ambience at dusk, observing, calmy, as pued-up pink clouds melt into the evening canvas.
On the other side, Mogwaa explores quiet corners with ‘Illusions’, a slow meditation on the nature of simple presence, and ‘Echoes
of You’, a stream of subdued brush strokes that crescendo into higher frequencies on gently undulating pads. B3, ‘Moondance’,
ups the tempo and recalls classic Mogwaa with its sideways shue and starry melodic refrain, pivoting through folk-dance
moods and surprising chord changes.
Nearing the end of the album, ‘Footprints’ wades through tall grass in search of altered states, innite and hypnotic, changing
course only to crouch down and study the landscape, and B5, ‘It always comes and goes’, pictures the to-and-fro of jetstreams and
comets in the blinding midday sky. Finally we have the closing credits of ‘Swingin’ that looks o into the horizon, jaunty and exalted,
a guitar-led tribute to an easy-going world, and ultimately mindful of the power of dreams.
We’re humbled to have such a special record for our rst full-length release on the label.
