THE COMPLETE ALBUM + BONUS TRACK - 180g VIRGIN VINYL - LIMITED EDITION. 2-3-4 was not a typical album for Shelly Manne who was primarily associated with West Coast Jazz. For this session though he flew from Los Angeles to New York by arrangement with producer Bob Thiele to be reunited with pioneering tenor saxophonist Coleman Hawkins and pianist Hank Jones, both of whom he had recorded with at various times in the 1940s. In an unusual session lasting through the wee hours of the morning, Manne ended by recording one tune as a duet with Hawkins.

US soul and rare groove outfit Heaven Sent & Ecstasy are a mysterious duo who only made this one record, but boy what a record it is. It first came in 1980 and has a weird sub title, but that doesn't detract from the gloriousness of the music. Some of its tunes were included in the soundtrack of Scrolls, The Book of Life and this is the first time it has landed on vinyl after a 2006 CD reissue. There are intricate moments of r&b pain, soaring jazz-funk grooves that will make any dance floor move and more raw funk jams driven by hard hitting kick and angular guitar riffs.

The Punishment Of Luxury was Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark's thirteenth studio album, but surprised everyone commercially with the first album since 1991 to reach the UK Top 10. The album continued the sound they created with 2013's English Electric. A sound strongly tied to their roots, but this time a bit more stripped down. As Andy McCluskey describes it: ""There’s a little bit more sort of crunchy industrial sound in a few things, a bit glitchty-er. But you know, the bottom line is that have a sense of melody that we just can’t throw off"". Even after almost 40 years, the band are still able to surprise their fans, making The Punishment Of Luxury a must for all synthpop fans. The Punishment of Luxury is available as a limited edition of 1000 copies on blue coloured vinyl. The record is housed in a jacket with die-cut and includes a printed innersleeve.

When Mano asked Gebrüder Teichmann to do a remix for Joãozinho Morgado, the King of Drums (O Rei dos Tambores) the two brothers couldn´t get more excited:
Starting from a love for dirty fast Kuduro beats those two pale potatoes, who spent years in dark Berlin basement underground clubs have been infected by energetic Angolan rhythms.
During their stays and musical collaborations in Luanda, they soon found Semba, Kazukuta, Kilapanga, Rumba and Merengue and all that fantastic musicians and music of the 60´s and 70´s golden age of Angolan music. Morgadinho was originally recorded at Gravisom studio in Lisbon, where Joãozinho Morgado orchestrated a groovy jam session with the Turma da Bênção project by Conjunto Angola 70 & Paulo Flores. Joãozinho was accompanied by Botto Trindade (Solo Guitar), Pirika Duia (Viola Ritmo), Mayo Bass (Viola Bass) and Galiano Neto (Percussion). The session was coordinated by Armando Gobliss.

'The Masquerade Overture' war das Album, das Pendragon 1996 zu größerer Popularität verhalf. Seit mehr als zwei Jahrzehnten verfolgen Dr. Dog ihre Hingabe an die Alchemie des Musikmachens. Als es an der Zeit war, ihr elftes Studioalbum aufzunehmen, wählte die aus Philadelphia stammende Band einen vielschichtigen Prozess aus, der eine tiefere Synergie zwischen den fünf Mitgliedern (Bassist Toby Leaman, Lead-Gitarrist Scott McMicken, Rhythmusgitarrist Frank McElroy, Keyboarder Zach Miller und Schlagzeuger Eric Slick) erforderte. Diese Reise begann mit einer gemeinsamen Session in einer Hütte in den Wäldern von Pennsylvania, von wo aus Dr. Dog sich nach und nach ihren Weg zu dem fröhlich-unbefangenen Psych-Rock ihrer neuen, selbstbetitelten LP bahnten. McMicken übernahm bei "Dr. Dog" zum ersten Mal in der Geschichte der ausgesprochen egalitären Band das Ruder als Produzent, abgemischt wurde das Album vom mehrfachen Grammy-Gewinner Matt Ross-Spang (Jason Isbell, Drive-By Truckers). Getreu dem eklektischen Geist, der die Band schon immer beseelt hat, wechseln die 11 Tracks auf "Dr. Dog" von Soul über Surf-Rock bis hin zu symphonischem Pop mit einer Ausgelassenheit, die durch die wiederbelebte kreative Energie beflügelt wurde. Ihr erstes komplettes Album seit "Critical Equation" von 2018 zeigt Dr. Dog als eine Band, die noch immer, nach über zwanzig Jahren ihrer Karriere, zusammenwächst und sich weiterentwickelt.

Der ehemalige Type O Negative/Danzig-Schlagzeuger Johnny Kelly und der Gitarrist und Riffschreiber Dan Lorenzo (Hades/Non-Fiction) gründeten Patriarchs In Black Ende des Jahres 2021. Die Songs auf dem neuen Album "Visioning" vereinen Elemente des klassischen Doom Metals mit modernen Sounds sowie Ausflüge in den Hardcore/Crossover.

Neben Schlagzeuger Johnny Kelly sind wieder eine Reihe großartiger Sänger und Bassisten dabei, wie Dave Neabore (Dog Eat Dog), Karl Agell (Corrosion Of Confirmity), Eric Morgan (A Pale Horse Named Death), Mark Sunshine (Riotgod), Jason McMaster (Watchtower), Kyle Thomas (Exhorder) und viele mehr.

Die psychedelischen Hardrocker WORSHIPPER haben mit ihrem dritten Album "One Way Trip" ihren grandiosen Balanceakt zwischen klassischem Hardrock und Old School Heavy Metal perfektioniert, dem die Truppe aus Boston, Massachusetts durch eine gesunde Dosis Psychedelika zu einem rauschenden Höhenflug verhilft. Continue As Amery is the debut album by Montreal-based artist Amery. Formerly recording under the moniker Alpen Glow, Continue As Amery sees the songwriter step out into a bold, colourful world full of pop hooks, snagging feelings of abandon and the mornings after. Amery Sandford began releasing as Alpen Glow in 2020 after years playing in punk groups in Newfoundland and as half of Montreal pop duo Born At Midnite (Arbutus). Recorded in Montreal by David Carriere (TOPS, Marci), Patrick Holland, and Kristian North, Continue As Amery is a blast of melodic joie de vivre. On her debut Sandford brings her punk and DIY credentials into sharp focus on 8 perfect pop odes to city living, making mistakes and figuring it out as you go along. Suffuse with powerful imagery and an almost uncanny talent at spinning out hooks brimming with humour and spirit, Amery’s soundworld is informed by friendship, experience and by her day job as a renowned illustrator and visual artist. Beginning Alpen Glow in a spirit of fun and now shedding the alias, Amery’s ready to hotwire the nite. Each song is rich with story. Mountain FM, named for the radio station in Sandford’s home town in the mountains of Alberta, launches into a tale of speeding, blasting the radio too loud, the giddy burning of rubber with no care in the world to slow you down. Spirit Is Broken is a pep talk the artist is giving herself in the mirror. Only Amery could write something so joyous and harmonically glorious while singing about low ebbs. Every line shines with humour, the chorus starting with an exasperated “oh my god, alright” and the refrain nailing the bittersweet feeling of enjoying feeling down. It’s a mood continued on slow groover Ennui, a melter striking out at being stuck; same parties, same faces, daring to dream beyond. Dieses Demo wurde als eine sehr starke Veröffentlichung angesehen, die über 30 Minuten dauerte und eine anständige Produktion aufwies. Im darauffolgenden Jahr wurde das Debütalbum "Solstice of Oppression" veröffentlicht, das von ausgiebigen Tourneen begleitet wurde, aber das Label von Oppressor ging kurz darauf in Konkurs. Um ihren Namen in der Öffentlichkeit zu halten, veröffentlichten Oppressor eine halb Live- und halb Studio-Compilation namens "European Oppression Live/As Blood Flows", die Live-Material von ihrer europäischen Support-Tour für ihr Debüt und Studiomaterial enthielt, das aus dem kompletten "As Blood
Flows"-Demo der Band von 1993 bestand.

Jerome Thomas kehrt zurück mit seinem neuen Album “Submerge”, das in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Produzenten Pitch 92 entstanden ist und nimmt uns mit auf eine zutiefst menschlichen Entdeckungsreise. Feedasoul Records’ mainstay Soul Groove, returns to the label with a four-track vinyl masterpiece that doubles down on his Jazz and Soulful roots while delivering infectious Deep House cuts. This release is a testament to Soul Groove’s evolution as a serious up-and-comer in the electronic scene, showcasing his unique, smooth sound that has become synonymous with Feedasoul Records.

BGP's 33rpm 7" release features two sought-after cuts by Leon Thomas, both full-length versions that have become favorites among DJs. From his 1973 Flying Dutchman LP Full Circle, 'It's My Life I'm Fighting For' is a standout track featuring top New York session players like Pee Wee Ellis, Joe Farrell and Neal Creque. Clocking in at ten minutes, it's a funky jazz classic with an apocalyptic feel. The second track, 'Shape Your Mind To Die,' is a dramatic five-minute piece also penned by Thomas and Creque. Originally appearing on Thomas' Blues And The Soulful Truth album in 1972, this track is fueled by Pee Wee Ellis' amazing soprano saxophone.

Nearly a decade after their last album, Lilacs and Champagne picks up right where that record, Midnight Features Vol. 2: Made Flesh, left off. With bizarre excursions into pillowy, sentimental made-for-TV music - and children's choirs incanting the blackest dread-filled music the band has conjured to date - Fantasy World is both transcendent and traumatic. Despite sharing two founding members of Grails (multi-instrumentalists Emil Amos and Alex Hall) Fantasy World only peripherally resembles their core group. Lilacs & Champagne have exaggerated their early record's implications and accelerated their mercurial rearranging of music history by deftly incorporating live instrumentation and samples with equal amounts of deference and disregard. Previously existing primarily in a realm adjacent to instrumental hip-hop (J Dilla, Clams Casino, Madlib), Fantasy World exposes Lilacs & Champagne's deeper lineage as playful tape-collage culture jammers in the vein of legendary sound satirists, Negativland and Severed Heads. It embraces the effect of a child entering a dollar store: the immediate euphoria felt upon discovering the seemingly endless aisles piled impossibly high with novelty toys, utensils, party decorations, and toiletries eventually gives way to the overwhelming realization that they're actually just a tourist in a perilous mountain of colorful garbage. From those mountains, Lilacs & Champagne mold monuments to curiosity and confusion.

Following a ten-year hiatus, multi-instrumentalists Rafael Anton Irisarri and Benoît Pioulard return with »How to Color a Thousand Mistakes«, their third LP together as Orcas. Building on the electronic minimalism of »Orcas« (2012) and the Twin Peaks-inspired haze of »Yearling« (2014), the duo have expanded their sound and vision into a full-spectrum ensemble.

In the time since their last major collaboration, Irisarri and Pioulard have done plenty on their own, while also traversing significant life changes: relocation from Seattle to New York, separation and divorce, illness, hospitalizations, and the loss of siblings, parents, and friends. Yet from these tribulations, they gleaned inspiration to reconstruct their lives, creating music with new collaborators and partners. Recorded in a variety of studios and cities including Brooklyn, Cambridge, Oxford, Seattle, and upstate New York, the resulting album, under the tutelage of UK producer James Brown (Arctic Monkeys, Kevin Shields, Nine Inch Nails), is a patiently-crafted beast, equally inspired by impressionism, British new wave, and dream pop.

With Irisarri’s guidance and Brown’s encouragement, Pioulard brings his velvety voice to its harmonized peak on songs like »Wrong Way to Fall« and the Durutti Column-indebted »Fare«. Where his most recent solo albums for Morr Music (»Sylva« and »Eidetic«) navigated foggy forests of ambient pop and stacked tape loops, here his characteristic blur shifts into focus with a unique degree of clarity and confidence. »How fare against balance do I / Navigate my errors?«, Pioulard sings in a heartbreaking tenor, echoing the album’s broader themes of introspection, grief, loss, trial and trauma.

Lead single, »Riptide«, is a summary of Pioulard’s life changes and personal upheavals in the past decade, »flitting eastward toward a yen deep in the past« and learning to glide through the tumult of ocean waves, as a metaphor for the punches one takes in pursuit of grace. Its towering, key-changing midsection arrives with the monumental drumming of Slowdive’s Simon Scott, a long-time friend and cohort who appears on most songs in the set. Scott’s quintessentially English, jazzier approach offers a balance of force and restraint as the backdrop for Irisarri’s majestic guitars, analog synth lines, and Martin Heyne’s Fender Rhodes counterpoints.

Second single, »Next Life«, began as a sketch by Scott, and reached its final form in the hands of Pioulard and Irisarri, at a point that each had endured major concurrent losses, finding a commonality in the need to gaze over the horizon while acknowledging the unavoidable bittersweetness of letting go – not only of people, but of routines, places, and expectations. It’s one of Orcas’ most nuanced pieces, with a mid-tempo, sunset glow that unfolds into a sparkling, slide-guitar finale as it disappears in the rear view.

On third-act highlight, »Bruise«, Scott is doubled on the drum kit by MONO’s Dahm Majuri Cipolla, whose Liebezeit-influenced metronomy anchors a nimble bass groove from Andrew Tasselmyer (of Hotel Neon), and some of the album's most syncopated, spaced-out interplay, courtesy of Puerto Rican guitar player Orlando Méndez (a childhood friend of Irisarri’s). Originally a droney, fingerpicked guitar demo, »Bruise« is the most storied composition here, having gone through almost a dozen versions and lyrical edits, with Brown distilling hours of improvised performances into the final arrangement.

Throughout »How to Color a Thousand Mistakes«, Irisarri uses his deep well of production experience to paint the stereo field with meticulously designed textures, exemplified on the slow burn of »Heaven’s Despite« and the heady rush of »Swells«. As a mixing and mastering engineer with Black Knoll, he has built a client list that reads as a who’s-who of modern, forward-thinking composition, including Temporary Residence, All Saints Records, and Ghostly International, among many others.

As with previous collaborations, Irisarri and Pioulard bring disparate styles and specialties to the table, but with an interpersonal dynamic that transcends friendship into brotherhood, their open-minded workflow and mutual respect are evident at every turn. »How to Color a Thousand Mistakes« brims with tight, complex art rock songwriting, masterful production, and sonic versatility, informed by a plethora of genres and tonal hues. The title might promise answers, but the gravitational center of the album is the dawning realization that, as you reckon with the infinite whims of the cosmos, there could be none.

It was on the occasion of the bicentennial of the USA (1776 – 1976) that I recorded this album which had an international success. The musicians were perfect and the sound great; it gave me the idea and the crazy desire to make a record on the Africa that I love. Here too, I’ll let you know.

Given AR Kane’s Alex Ayuli once worked for advertising agency Saatchi & Saatchi, it’s no surprise that he and collaborator Rudy Tambala invented their own genre before critics could stick their oar in. It was a canny move, but more importantly, it was accurate: the music of AR Kane was made for dreamers, by dreamers, and its languor and longing made it particularly bewitching listening; their music is often smeared and blurry, happily lost in its own indefinable pleasures. “We wanted dream pop,” Tambala says, “that feeling of a dream where the rules are different. ‘Sixty Nine’ the group’s debut LP that emerged in 1988 had critics and listeners struggling to fit language around A.R. Kane’s sound. As a title it was telling - the year of ‘Bitches Brew’, the year of ‘In A Silent Way’, the erotic möbius between two lovers - and as originally coined by the band themselves, ‘dream pop’ (before it became a free-floating signifier of vague import) was entirely apposite for the music A.R. Kane were making. Crafted in a dark small basement studio in which Tambala recalls the duo had “complete freedom - We wanted to go as far out as we could, and in doing so we discovered the point where it stops being music”. There was an irresistibly dreamy, somnambulant, sensual and almost surreal flow to ‘sixty nine’s sound, but also real darkness/dankness, the ruptures of the primordial and the reverberations of the subconscious, within the grooves of remarkable songs like ‘Dizzy’ and ‘Crazy Blue’. Alex’s plangent vocals floated and surged amidst exquisite peals of refracted feedback but crucially there was BASS here, lugubrious and funky and full of dread, sonic pleasure and sonic disturbance crushed together to make music with a center so deep it felt subcutaneous, music constructed from both the accidental and the deliberate, generous enough to dance with both serendipity and chaos. ‘sixty nine’ remains - especially in this remastered iteration - ravishing, revolutionary – Neil Kulkarni

Turnover have teamed up with a team of collaborators to release Myself in the Way: Remixes, a new vinyl release that features reimagined versions of the band’s infectious and trippy album Myself in the Way. Artists like Young Guv and Anthenagin offer drum & bass updates to singles “Myself in the Way” and “Wait Too Long,” while prior touring partner Healing Potpourri adds to the psychedelic trance of “Moun- tains Made of Clouds.” Even Turnover’s own Austin Getz contributes three remixes, turning songs like “People That We Know’ and “Stone Station” into trance-influenced elec- tronic jams. Youtube sensation Frank Watkinson closes out the album with a different interpretation of “Mountains Made of Clouds,” with only an acoustic guitar and the song’s heart- breaking lyrics to recontextualize the song as what feels like a timeless folk-ballad.

After his debut album 'Happy Floating' in 2022, Leipzig-based producer Damian Dalla Torre returns to Squama with 'I Can Feel My Dreams'. Developed during a residency in Santiago, Chile, it incorporates electronic, jazz and ambient influences utilizing Andean quena flutes, synthesizers and field recordings and again centering on collaborations with fellow artists like Ruth Goller, Miriam Adefris and Christian Balvig.
A wistful haze runs throughout the album, coming out at the end, there's both light and darkness and no need to choose.

The 2019 released "Caligula" took the vision of Kristin Hayter's vessel to the next level of grandeur, her purging and vengeful audial vision went beyond anything preceding it and reached an unparalleled sonic plane within her oeuvre. Succeeding her self-released 2017 "All Bitches Die" opus, "CALIGULA" saw Hayter design an ambitious work, displaying the full force of her talent as a vocalist, composer, and storyteller. Vast in scope and multivalent in its influences, with delivery nothing short of demonic, "CALIGULA" is an outsider's opera; magnificent, hideous, and raw. Eschewing and disavowing genre altogether, Hayter built her own world. Here she fully embodied the moniker Lingua Ignota, from the German mystic Hildegard of Bingen, meaning "unknown language" _ this music has no home, any precedent or comparison could only be uneasily given, and there is nothing else like it in our contemporary realm. Whilst "CALIGULA" is unapologetically personal and critically self-aware, there are broader themes explored; the decadence, corruption, depravity and senseless violence of emperor Caligula is well documented and yet still permeates today. Brimming with references and sly jabs, Hayter's sardonic commentary on abuse of power and invalidation is deftly woven. Working closely with Seth Manchester at Machines With Magnets studio in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, Hayter stripped away much of the industrial and electronic elements of her previous work, approaching instead the corporeal intensity and intimate menace of her notorious live performances, achieved with unconventional recording techniques and sound sources, as well as a full arsenal of live instrumentation and collaborators including harsh noise master Sam McKinlay (THE RITA), visceral drummer Lee Buford (The Body) and frenetic percussionist Ted Byrnes (Cackle Car, Wood & Metal), with guest vocals from Dylan Walker (Full of Hell), Mike Berdan (Uniform), and Noraa Kaplan (Visibilities). "CALIGULA" is a massive work, a multi-layered epic that gives voice and space to that which has been silenced and cut out.

The inaugural release sees Tre Turner serve up three belting hardware jams straddling 90s euro-house, trance and early prog with a subtle nod to Scotland’s notorious old-school rave scene.

First dropped by Job Jobse at last year’s Nachti Festival, title track" Can’t U Feel" is a feel-good party pumper resplendent with galloping euro bass, gated filter sweeps and catchy pitched vox destined for a festival near you. The two mixes of “Mixed Emotions” on the flip take a hazy, trancier path, keeping the emotion and euphoria running high.

Cold is the self-titled debut studio album by Jacksonville-based rock band Cold and was originally released in 1998. Discovered by A&R man Fred Durst (from Limp Bizkit), Cold burst onto the scene with their self-titled album, a potent blend of raw emotion, haunting melodies, and powerful instrumentation. Led by vocalist Scoot Ward, the band quickly garnered attention for their introspective lyrics and intense live performances. The singles culled of the album ""Go Away"" and ""Give"" showcased Ward's ability to convey deep-seated emotions with raw honesty, while tracks like ""Confession"" and ""End of the World"" captivated listeners with elements of alternative rock, metal, and post-grunge into a cohesive sonic tapestry. Cold is available on vinyl for the first time and includes an insert.

Tiny Habits were formed in Boston, MA by artists Maya Rae, Cinya Khan and Judah Mayowa. The three singer-songwriters met at Berklee College of Music and the band was born at the beginning of 2022.

They started out by sharing covers recorded in the stairwell of their dorm and posting them on social media. Focusing on beautifully intimate three-part harmonies the trio's enticing signature sound, offered exquisite, reimagined versions of songs from across a spectrum of styles and quickly drove them to viral success. They received recognition and early support from artists as diverse as David Crosby, Marcus Mumford, Phoebe Bridgers, and Noah Kahan. Collaborations include work with Mark Ronson, JP Saxe and Lizzy McAlpine, who they supported on NPR’s Tiny Desk

Their debut EP “Tiny Things” was released in April 2023 and established them as one of “the” bands to watch in the year ahead.

In early 2023, the band opened for Gracie Abrams “Good Riddance Tour” across North America, followed by their own sold-out US “Tiny Tour”

At the end of 2023, the trio opened for Noah Kahan on his “Stick Season Tour” across Europe, followed by a sold-out headline show in London. In January 2024, the band rejoined Gracie Abrams, opening for the Australian leg of her “Good Riddance Tour”. This was followed by a sold-out headline show in Melbourne and a performance at the Minetta Lane Theatre in New York with Kacey Musgraves. The New Yorker recently wrote a feature piece on the band, coining them “The Prodigies of Harmonies”.

The label that ignited the Dutch post-punk scene! Homogeneity be damned, these early Plurex tracks are a head-turning snapshot of what was happening in the late ‘70s Netherlands underground! Includes an interview with Plurex founders and all of the singles from 1978-‘80! Some of the bands would never release another record, but for the label and many of the artists there was yet more history to be made, not least of which was Minny Pops’ ascendance to seminal status, and Plurex’s emergence at the center of the envelope-pushing Dutch music scene that came to be known as Ultra. “It’s extreme, that’s what that word stands for,” explains van Middendorp of the movement, “It stands for something that’s clearly outspoken, and that’s what we tried to do.” From the confrontational clang of their early punk releases to the electronic art attacks that arrived soon after, Plurex was about saying something new, loudly enough for all to hear. When those records were made,” says van Middendorp, “I never expected that we would have a conversation about them 40 years later if not longer. At the time nobody was even thinking for one minute that this might happen.... That so many years down the line there’s still people out there that will discover this music. And the great thing about The Plurex Story is that it’s also on a format that I’m a big fan of, because who gives a shit about the stream? It’s nice to have a physical album in your hands.”

The Big Picture is the 2014 studio album by Kat Edmonson, who calls her music vintage cosmopolitanism pop. For the recordings of this album, she collaborated with acclaimed producer Mitchell Froom (Crowded House, Suzanne Vega). On The Big Picture, according to NPR, “she's a savvy student of '60s film soundtracks, jazz-pop stylists and Brill Building songcraft, nodding to her influences at every turn. But her take on those stylized musical languages is so fresh and fluent that the referencing never feels cumbersome."" The album features standout tracks “Rainy Day Woman”, “Oh My Love”, and “You Can’t Break My Heart”, which remain fan-favourites to this day. Der gefeierte Pianist Joep Beving veröffentlicht sein erstes gemeinsames Album mit dem in Berlin arbeitenden niederländischen Cellisten und Produzenten Maarten Vos. Ihr Album vision of contentmenterscheint auf Nils Frahms Label LEITER und folgt auf die Zusammenarbeit an Henosis, Bevings drittem Album aus dem Jahr 2019. Die LP, die von Frahm im LEITER Studio im Funkhaus Berlin abgemischt wurde, enthält acht neue Kompositionen und ist sowohl auf Vinyl als auch über alle digitalen Plattformen erhältlich. Während Beving noch nie ein komplettes Album mit anderen Musiker*innen aufgenommen hat, kollaboriert Vos regelmäßig mit Künstler*innen wie Julianna Barwick, Nicolas Godin (AIR) und Alex Smoke. "Endlich ergab sich die Gelegenheit, mit ihm Musik zu machen." sagt Beving. "Ich versuche immer, kleine Welten zu schaffen, in die die Hörer*innen kurzzeitig eintauchen können. Die Arbeit mit Maarten und Nils hat mir ungemein dabei geholfen, dies zu erreichen. Maarten ist ein wahrer Klangkünstler und Nils ist, nun ja... der Meister des Klangs!" Aus ihrer mitunter düsteren Arbeit, entstand eine universelle Lobrede auf das, was der Pianist "Trost finden in der Akzeptanz des Unvermeidlichen" nennt. Aber das Album ist weit mehr als das. Es ist auch eine erstaunlich persönliche Hommage an Mark Brounen, ihren Freund und - in Bevings Fall - Manager, der nach einem mehrjährigen Kampf gegen den Krebs während der Aufnahmen zu diesem Album verstarb. Der Großteil von vision of contentment wurde im Juli 2023 in "de Berenpan", einem Wald außerhalb eines kleinen Dorfes in der niederländischen Provinz Utrecht, geschrieben und mit verschiedenen Synthesizern, einem Cello und einem Klavier aufgenommen. Das Album vermittelt gewiss auf mehreren Wegen eine Idee von Ruhe und Gelassenheit, sei es in unserer Welt oder im Jenseits. Es beginnt mit den blechernen Klängen von "on what must be", und endet mit ruhigen, fast aufmunternden "The boat". Zwischen diesen sensiblen 'Buchenden" liegt ein halbes Dutzend Tracks: Das geisterhafte "Penumbra", das dumpfe, nostalgische "A night in Reno" und das amorphe, beunruhigende "Hades". "I mecht an Landla hean" schiebt sich zwischen Solo-Album zwei und drei wie ein Zwischenspiel. Es ist ein Innehalten und Besinnen auf die Ursprünge, eine Liebeserklärung an die Volksmusik. Schon viel zulange versucht der Heimatsound, Volksmusik wieder 'cooler" zu machen. Sie muss aber nicht 'cool" gemacht werden. Sie ist das, was sie ist: Folk. Was sie nicht braucht - Heimat. Sie kann überall zu Hause sein. In den Melodien von David Bowie und Tom Waits, zwischen den Zeilen von Wir sind Helden, selbst im Dance-Schlager eines Gigi d"Agostino (bei Maxi Pongratz mit Hackbrett-Intro). Maxi Pongratz hat in seinem Repertoire gekramt und erste Kompositionen ("Eiseckla"), übermitteltes Liedgut ("Ich und der Mond", "Landlerrunde") und seine All-Time-Favorit-Coversongs zusammengetragen. So haben sich auf "I mecht an Landla hean" zwölf vorwiegend instrumentale Songs versammelt und es passiert das, was meistens passiert, wenn sich Musikanten spontan an einem (Wirtshaus-)Tisch zusammenfinden - jede*r bringt etwas mit und am Ende wird getanzt.

Auf “Cliff Craft”, einer wunderbar entspannten Quintett-Aufnahme, präsentierte Jordan neben drei eigenen Kompositionen auch exzellent interpretierte Klassiker von Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie und Duke Ellington.

Garden City Movement, the critically acclaimed Indie Pop/Rock duo who is celebrated for their

dynamic sound and experimental approach, is delighted to announce the release of three sets of

singles, paving the way for their highly anticipated sophomore album, "Never On Time",

scheduled for release on July 19 via Anova Music.

From their early days, Garden City Movement has captured hearts and minds across the globe,

earning acclaim from Pitchfork, FADER, and FACT, and gracing stages at Glastonbury, Primavera,

and Pukkelpop. Despite the challenges posed by cancer and the departure of a band member,

the duo has emerged stronger than ever, marking their territory in the music world with notable

Garden City Movement, comprised of Roy Avital & Johnny Sharoni, is globally recognized for their

Their resilience in the face of adversity, including a battle with cancer that put a temporary hold

solidifying their international presence with a successful tour in Japan, which earned them a spot

on the Top 100 "J-Wave" Japanese charts for "Miss You Under Shimokita Sky". A few years later in

2023, they were invited to perform at the renowned Formula 1 event in Singapore. Despite recent

changes, with Joe departing and the band transitioning to a duo, Garden City Movement

continues to evolve. Their upcoming album promises exciting collaborations across genres,

Prolific Danish drummer Emil de Waal has come to be known for his unique and personal contributions to a wide variety of musical projects in jazz, pop, rock, and electronica, including Kalaha, Baghdad Dagblad, Maluba Orchestra, and his own quartet to name a few. Well versed in the art of collaboration, his new record is his first solo undertaking, combining his jazz musicianship with his affinity for the offoff-kilter and electronically manipulated. Comprised of seven original compositions, as well as creative reinterpretations of pieces by Charlie Haden, Duke Ellington, and Hans Henrik Ley/Jannik Hastrup, the record is a collection of intimate, interactive duo performances decorated with sounds and textures from the electronic world. The record s title translates to four eyes ", a double double-entendre alluding to the album s duo approach, under four eyes so to speak, as well as to the fact that de Waal wears glasses. Making a conscious effort to collaborate with more female instrumentalists as well as musicians de Waal hadn t played with before, Fire Ojne " features a wide spectrum of organic instrumental timbres on the prepared piano, clarinet, saxo-phone, pedal steel guitar, and bass flute. During the slow building odyssey that is LIVE IN NOCHTEN, it creaks and groans like the wind that shakes the giant F60 overburden conveyor bridge in the Lusatian coalfields. For this jam, the elusive figure that goes by the name of Luzyca Bambaataa and usually hides in the back room of a hair salon, has wired together countless worn-out synthesizers and recorded a soundtrack to the surroundings. But others claim, that Luzyca Bambaataa is the street name of a complex character who fully immersed into some gear that a youth center in Hoyerswerda acquired with left-over EU fundings. After the cassette has been turned, things get even more serious with Graef's first outing of his electronic alter ego. The four killer tracks range from the dance floor anthem GAIVAL via the almost cosmic ghost song HAUNTING VOYAGE and the brutal drum heavy monster R0GU3 D3L4M41N to the fascinating IDM study SOLIFUGE. Born Benjamin Butter to his parents in Hoywoy, he nowadays is a full-blown artist who adds a colorful DIY edge to all the different art forms he puts his hands on. AJ Lee & Blue Summit are an award-winning, energetic, and technically jaw-dropping bluegrass band quickly rising on the national roots music scene. Spätestens jetzt mit der Veröffentlichung ihres dritten Albums 'X's' stehen Cigarettes After Sex im Zentrum der Aufmerksamkeit nicht nur als eine der herausragenden Indie-Bands der Gegenwart, sondern überhaupt als eine der weltweit erfolgreichsten Bands egal welchen Genres, deren oft unkonventioneller Weg zum Superstartum dazu beigetragen hat, die Definition von Erfolg für Künstler in der heutigen Zeit neu zu definieren.

In rohen, fantasievollen, manchmal schmutzigen Vignetten, die von hinreißenden, langsam vor sich hinschreitenden Popsongs untermalt werden, fängt Bandleader Greg Gonzalez alle Emotionen ein, die eine romantische Beziehung hervorruft. Doch während frühere Alben aus einem Sammelsurium von Beziehungen schöpften, konzentriert sich das dritte Album 'X's' auf eine einzige Beziehung, die sich über vier Jahre erstreckte. "Die Platte fühlt sich brutal an", gibt Gonzalez zu. "Ich könnte mich hinsetzen und mit jemandem über diesen Verlust reden, aber das würde nicht mal an der Oberfläche kratzen. Ich muss wirklich darüber schreiben, darüber singen, die Musik dazu haben, erst dann kann ich anfangen, es zu analysieren und daraus zu lernen. Oder ich erlebe es einfach noch einmal - auf eine gute Art und Weise.“

Gonzalez hält sich nach wie vor an die klassischen Strukturen des Popsongs, hat sich aber von den klanglichen Eckpfeilern der 50er und 60er Jahre entfernt und fühlt sich nun vom Slow Dance der 70er/80er Jahre angezogen. Auch wenn diese Veränderungen (in typischer Cigarettes-Manier) subtil sein mögen, so ist das Resultat doch eine andere Energie, eher vergleichbar mit Tränen, die sich in der Discokugel brechen, um ein starkes Bild zu bemühen.

For the latest Cognitiva release the label present the 4th release of their Point of View series which focuses on dance floor-oriented sounds, this time they invite the marvellously talented Dr. Sud to deliver a wondrous, jazz laden odyssey, which entices as much as it delights - with some expert remixes to boot….
Dr Sud is the main alias of Gregorio Marigliano, an Italian music maker who was raised in Berlin. Marigliano’s music revolves around the principles of Jazz-meets-Dance music, drawing up the rich tradition that has come before in bringing a high level of musicality and ingenuity within his tunes. Moving fluidly between rhythms and feels, as Dr Sud he captures the imagination with thought provoking and captivating sequences, striking a fine balance between depth and danceability. Harmonies and groove play a key part within his music, such as was highlighted on his 2023 EP ‘Heading South’, coming courtesy of the Q1E2 imprint. This record really highlighted his profound abilities and deep set affection for instrumentation but also mood and tone, and it left many waiting for his next release with baited breath.

‘Point of View 4’ continues forth with the supreme feels that permeated through ‘Heading South’, with the key movement onwards being the inclusion of some killer remixes from Gary Superfly, Broke One, Turbojazz and Reekee. Two original cuts, ‘Breakfast Sun’ and ‘Desert Wind’, lead Sides A and B respectively, and do much to help create a distinctive balance and bookend kind of feel to the record. ‘Breakfast Sun’ begins with a wondrous polyrhythm to get things going, a lone vocal sample thrown in for good measure, and before long we are joined by some delicate but hyper precise melodic features. The slow drawn out chords contrast superbly with the short sharp stabs, acting in accordance with the drums, with the first breakdown providing space for the keys to really flourish and take over. The breakout back into the core rhythm allows for a lead synth line to emerge, and provide those bountiful feels we were all yearning for. The remixes do much to add flavour and some diverse alternative perpectives on the original, with the Turbojazz/Broke One remix taking things in a house-y leaning direction, with the hats and kicks shifting the rhythmic perspective towards sun kissed horizons. The Gary Superfly remix however takes things into a much more cosmic space, with a punchy acid line weaving within the underbelly of the track, providing that late night dance feel for club land scenarios.

On the B Side, ‘Desert Wind’ kicks things off, and once again the drums here start us off in a winning space. The groove is so delicate, poised and perfected, and when the first breakdown arrives the chords come into view, and its glorious to say the least. This track focuses on a much more smooth melodic sequence, with a greater emphasis placed on the lead line, but its just as impactful and soulful as the EPs opener. Delicate waterfall style keys shift in and out of view, providing an overall picture of sonic beauty that we can get behind time and time again. To wrap things up, the Reekee remix of ‘Desert Wind’ comes into view, with this track again moving into dance floor realms with a swinging garage beat that feels unstoppable, shifting and moving between the lines with a joyous ease.

Dr Sud may be a producer to keep a keen eye on, with this latest EP certainly doing that sentiment a great level of justice. This EP provides not only two beautiful original cuts from the man himself, but some imaginative remixes that honour the originals and provide us with an record that will linger long in the memory. For home use, down by the rivera, or in the club, this one has the lot…..

Tetsu Shibuya, better known as simply Tetsu or BRISA is a Japanese producer and DJ known for works on the iconic Japanese Jazzy Sport imprint, King Street sub-label Nite Grooves and his own BRISA Music. Leading the EP is title-track 'Stir', in collaboration with Turbojazz BRISA delivers a classic slice of deep house built upon layers of bright stab sequences and loose organic percussion. Detroit's beloved Jon Dixon turns his hand to 'Stir' next, encapsulating the soul of his hometown in reshaping fragments of the original composition. The original of 'Reverie' opens the B-side, laying down a broken rhythm, low-pitched vocal hooks and elongated bass grooves for a more bruk tinged feel. Byron The Aquarius then extracts the core of 'Reverie' and spins it into bumpy, subtly nuanced house workout. Lastly the third original 'Flux' rounds out the release, shifting deeper in funkinfused realms with a playful plucked bass groove and heavily swung drums.

"La Misma Fuente" is an album that could have only come from the mind of Yemanjo, and the music here reveals producer/musician Ben Harris in the full bloom of his artistic promise.

Translating as "The Same Source", the staggering variety of genre, sound design and featured artists here all relate to the concept that the world's diversity manifests out of an essential unity.

With guest singers and musicians from Mali, Colombia, Argentina, Hungary and beyond, "La Misma Fuente" pulsates with an irresistible combination of cracking electronic beats, hypnotic synths and bass, traditional acoustic instruments and vocals in many languages.

In the title track, Yemanjo's own harmonized Spanish vocals roil over a relentless dembow groove; elsewhere Malian vocalist Mariam Koné shines in both the mid-tempo house track "Juru Fô" and the Reggae-meets-Desert Blues anthem "Janfa". The instrumentals are no less captivating; "Bululú" is a combustible club banger with shades of kuduro, afrohouse and zouk rhythms, "Suena La Quena" is a bouyant uptempo house track with soaring Andean flute melodies, "Baobab" mesmerizes with interlocking ngoni licks, and "Bridge to Bamako" is a spacious trip-hop groove that finishes the record like a breath of fresh air.

Thematically diverse, melodically complex and rhythmically compelling, "La Misma Fuente" is a testament to the relentless wanderlust of its author, and a fine addition to the already legendary catalogue of Wonderwheel Recordings.

Que Viva La Música just turned 50 and features Barretto at his peak of the “Hard Salsa” era. The album contains the track “Cocinando” from the famed documentary Our Latin Thing which alone makes the record worth the price of admission. Other key tracks include “La Pelota” and “Que Viva La Música”. Recorded in 1972, the recording features his original Salsa band including Adalberto Santiago and Orestes Vilato before their storied breakup. Now available remastered for the first time in decades on 180g LP with 12" classic tip-on single-pocket jacket.

Short Attention Records makes a welcome return here with a new drop of wax that fits the label head into its roots in deep techno sound worlds. This one takes the form of a various artists' EP crafted with an intake feel for cosy floors and who better to kick off in that vibe than the revered Lawrence whose 'Hawser' is a groovy and melodious track.
