Sanna Mun debuts on her imprint, Katabasis, with a three techno cut EP (vinyl & digital).

Sanna Mun is an interdisciplinary artist based in Berlin. Her approach to production is inspired by her work as an archaeologist, using digital modeling and field recordings of ancient sites to extract their psychoacoustics. Sanna's multifaceted sound ranges from ambient to mental and classic techno. Her sense for organically evolving motifs drives her live sets, which resolve to induce a state of meditation. Sanna's music has already received support from O Phase, Developer, and other mainstay techno names.

Katabasis started out as an experimental techno event at Sameheads in Neukolln, Berlin in collaboration with local musicians and visual artists. The vision behind the project is to springboard underrepresented artists reinventing minimal, hypnotic and early techno. Its name and imagery derive from Western esotericism, rooted in Sanna's experience as an archaeologist specializing in occult sciences. The label's first release features tracks exploring Pythagoras' musica universalis, planetary frequencies informed by her studies with Luz Peuscovich.

3. ENI AGEE - Cubafrobeat -

Formed out of the collaboration between London fusionistas LoKkhi TeRra ("probably the worlds best Cuban-Afrobeat-Bangladeshi group"Songlines) and UK's Afrobeat Ambassador Dele Sosimi ("A true legend"Clash), Cubafrobeat was initially the name of their critically acclaimed album from 2018 (" A total Stonking Blinder"All About Jazz). This has evolved naturally into an entirely new musical beast – and this is their first single.

4. HARMONIUZINHO - Lokkhi Terra

Taken from their debut CD album "No Visa Required" (2010), this is one of the tunes that put Lokkhi Terra on the map. Recorded in Kishon Khan's home studio the track captures the beginning of this London band's journey.

5. KANDE REVISITED - Lokkhi Terra

This a reworking of Lokkhi Terra's version of a classic Bangla Folk song written by Hason Raja. Maintaing the spirit of unique sound clashes, the track combines a typical London Afro Funkiness with the sublime Bengali vocals of Aneire Khan, Sohini Alam and Aanon Siddiqua. The original version was released on their 2012 CD album "Che Guava's Rickshaw Diaries".

6. NUORACLE - Justin Thurgur

Originally released as a digital single, this release from Justin Thurgur, composed in collaboration with Kishon Khan, is a Cuban Jazz track that features driving Timba bass lines and Afrobeat inflected horns and is a nod to the Nuyorican Latin Jazz scene of the '50's, '60's and '70's, which has been a big inspiration to them.

7. EU TOPO - Beiju

Beiju is the combined work of two unique practictioners: Firstly, Adma Macedo Newport from Salvador da Bahia, a singer who has integrated the great Afro-brazilian musical traditions of her native city with that of those she's lived in on her travels. Secondly, Phil Dawson, a London-based guitarist and music writer who has collaborated with many stylistic originators internationally, including those from all four corners of Africa. .

8. SHADHO KI RE AMAR - Shikor Bangladesh All Stars

Taken from their debut album "Soul of Bengal" - This Folk super group is made up of legendary session musicians from Bangladesh. This track features the late great Baul Rob Fakir and is written by the great mystic, Baul Lalon Shah, whose songs are still be found throughout the Bengal today.

International Anthem proudly presents Step on Step, a double LP collection of newly unearthed solo home recordings created by enigmatic producer, arranger, and composer Charles Stepney in the basement of his home on the Southside of Chicago during the years before his untimely death in 1976. Stepney’s signature “baroque soul” sound is known to many as it’s heard in his prismatic orchestral arrangements for Rotary Connection, Minnie Riperton, Howlin Wolf, Terry Callier, Earth, Wind & Fire, and many more. His sound has been used by countless samplers in the hip-hop world including Kanye West, The Fugees, and MF Doom. But in comparison to the post-mortem renown of his sound, or the artists he supported while he was alive, Stepney is a greatly underappreciated figure… a genius relegated to the shadows.

Step on Step is Stepney’s eponymous debut album, featuring 23 bare-bones, demo-style home recordings, most of which are Stepney originals that were never again recorded by him or any other artist. Highlights from those original works include “Denim Groove,” which hears Stepney on piano and congas alongside his first instrument (the vibraphone), and “Look B4U Leap,” one of several kinetic lo-fi dance numbers that feature Stepney having fun with an early-gen Moog synthesizer. It also features prototypical, seedling-style demos of Stepney compositions for Earth, Wind & Fire, including “That’s The Way of The World,” “Imagination,” and “On Your Face,” as well as the original version of “Black Gold,” which would eventually be recorded by Rotary Connection (as “I Am The Black Gold of The Sun”).

Second Woman is the collaborative project featuring Turk Dietrich of Belong and Joshua Eustis of Telefon Tel Aviv.
Josh and Turk have been friends for over 17 years, having met in New Orleans in the late '90s through mutual friend and future collaborator, Charlie Cooper. The duo have been working on music together on and o since that time.
The concept of Second Woman began with the idea of taking tropes from footwork, dub, house, and techno, and twisting these ideas into something kaleidoscopically liberated from the grid. Their work first materialized with two LP's and an EP on John Elliott and Peter Rehberg's Spectrum Spools.
Second Woman tweak the perception of time and space within the audio field into something ASMR-inducing and ultimately satisfying to listen to. Both Josh and Turk experience ASMR in response to certain rhythms and sounds, and e ort was made to incorporate these triggers into the music, hopefully for other people to experience as well.
With Apart / Instant, Second Woman present their signature sound as well as a new, more measured dimension to their work.

But in comparison to the post-mortem renown of his sound, or the music he created and the artists he supported while he was alive, Stepney is a greatly under-appreciated figure... a genius relegated to the shadows.

Zeitgeist Freedom Energy Exchange is a collective that bring together UK jazz funk vibes that have been made popular by Kamaal Williams, Shabaka Hutchings and Ezra Collective amongst others with the energy of Berlin's electronic DJ music. In fact, head of the collective Ziggy Zeitgeist is a big fan of DJ tools which equally have a big influence on his music. His aim is to create a mix of jazz and tribalistic, electronic energies to create jazz raves that reflect a fresh modern touch of what could be a sound for the next years. Of course many elements of their songs come from the 1970ies - the chord progressions, the fusion keyboard solos, the driving rhythms. But the general sound of the music and its straight electrifying energy create a new and unique futuristic sound.

There is a moment on Sides, the new album from Richmond, Virginia-based duo Lean Year, in which a hospital room floor is filled with white chrysanthemums. This imagery, based on an opiate-induced hallucination experienced by vocalist Emilie Rex's mother as she recovered from surgery, is a perfect encapsulation of the band's second album: dreamlike and beautiful, yet burdened with cold, stark reality. Sides is a harrowing journey through realms of grief and memory, a meditation woven into a tapestry of synth pads, woodwinds, and Rex's instantly recognizable voice. The duo of Rex and Rick Alverson - who also works as a film director (The Mountain, Entertainment, The Comedy) - originally set out to write an album about conflict, but during the writing and recording process, they were confronted with a number of personal tragedies. Alverson lost both of his parents in rapid succession, Rex's mother received a cancer diagnosis, and the couple's beloved family dog, Orca, died. These events transformed the album into an exploration of loss - an attempt at processing the painful, complex, and private emotions that bubble to the surface when confronted with death. "We thought we'd do a concept album called Sides where we could reflect on all of the division in the world, and some in our own families, but then COVID transformed everything / everyone, and we suffered our own specific losses. The record became about loss and grief," Rex explains. "In this way, the title Sides was still appropriate: our individual grief and collective grief, the margins of before and after, the act and feeling of during and enduring. It felt like straddling a threshold between two opposing sides - the moment before conflict and the moment after it passes, life and death, the act of living and the memory of the act. Grief feels like a contention between what you knew and what you now know, and often both feel real and unreal at once." Sides - produced by Alverson alongside Erik Hall (In Tall Buildings) and featuring contributions from Elliot Bergman (Nomo, Wild Belle) and Joseph Shabason (Destroyer, The War on Drugs) - as a distinctly cinematic quality, perhaps due in part to Alverson's other career. Moments of jazz, slowcore, and dirgelike R&B find their way into the sorrowful, ambient suite, lulling the listener into a state of calm while the lyrics speak of ghosts, childhood, and mortality. Despite the gravity of the subject matter, Sides succeeds in mastering a balancing act between pathos and pop. Each song is indelible and haunting, with melodies that have the kind of broad appeal reminiscent of Karen Dalton, Aldous Harding, and FKA twigs.

Fat Beats in partnership with Space Invadaz is pleased to release the 25 year anniversary edition reissue of Mood’s acclaimed 1997 debut LP, Doom. Originally released on September 23 of 1997, Doom was an important springboard for the careers of Talib Kweli, DJ Hi-Tek, Sunz of Man and Lone Catalysts. The 18 track LP is an artistically experimental album marked by stand out production and lyricism that remains on-point throughout.

Cincinnati rappers Main Flow and Donte kick apocalyptic rhymes that cite sacred scripture, ancient history, and politics. Both their rhyme schemes and chemistry are strong and prove to be equally compatible with DJ Hi-Tek, who made his production debut on this record, composing nine of the album’s 18 tracks, with newcomer Jahson handling the remaining production. Manuel Göttsching and Hartmut Enke had begun their careers in The Steeple Chase Blues Band back in the mid-'60ies, and they quickly felt their way through what Barritt and Leary were aiming for. They reconciled it all as a kind of West Coast chordless psychedelia, where blues riffs sparkle out of nowhere and the sheer weight of synthesizers renders everything with an unreal Pere Ubu/early Roxy Music quality.
The greatness of Ash Ra Tempel burned so brightly on 7Up that there is really nothing else like it. Hartmut Enke and Manuel Gottsching here returned to their riffy roots. It can hardly be called a retro act, though, as the context of music is everything. And with Dierks at the controls, even the New Kids on the Block would have sounded psychedelic.
7Up is like a late night radio show glimpsed through a shattered tuner where all but the most truly dangerous sounds have been allowed to stay, to drift and to dance around the performers.
The result is an extreme gem, a flash of hysterical white lightning, and a pre-punk Technicolour yawn in the grandest of traditions.
In typical Ash Ra Tempel style, the record is divided into two pieces, “Space” and "Time”. Within this, though,
Timothy Leary’s ideas are allowed to free-flow and the two sides are therefore divided into mini-songs all segued together. The highlight of Side 1 is “Power Drive”, a West Coast burn-up that transcends any W.
Coast music I ever did hear. Leary and Barritt present the greatest twin-vocal of all time, coming on like Jagger and Morrison but too caught up in their own maelstrom to be anything less than Heralds of the Punkfuture still five years away.

Während der Aufnahmesessions bekam die Band kalte Füße und entschied sich für ein einziges Album, das sie nun dazu zwang widersprüchliche Ideen nebeneinander auf ein und derselben Platte zu platzieren.Während er das Archiv der Band durchstöberte, um eine Jubiläumsversion von "Know Your Enemy" zusammenzustellen, fand Nicky Wire die Originalbänder von "Solidarity" und "Door To The River", die er während dieser Aufnahme im Studio gemacht hatte. Als er die Idee vorbrachte, diese Platten neu zu erstellen, stimmte James Dean Bradfield unter der Bedingung zu, dass er die gesamte Aufnahme mit dem langjährigen Studiopartner der Band, Dave Eringa, remixen könnte.Der Schreiber und langjährige Mitstreiter der Band, Robin Turner, erklärt in seinen ausführlichen Notizen auf den Sleeves, dass diese Veröffentlichung "der Director's Cut von 'Know Your Enemy' ist. Rund 135 Jahre umspannt das Repertoire von Igor Levits neuem Album "Tristan": die Zeit von etwa 1837 bis 1973. Ganz unterschiedliche Genres treffen aufeinander; nur eines der Werke wurde ursprünglich für Soloklavier geschrieben. Levits Annäherungen an existenzielle Grenzerfahrungen - den Tod in "Life" (2018), die Begegnung mit dem Spirituellen in "Encounter" (2020) und jetzt, in "Tristan", die Verbindung von Liebe, Tod und Erlösungsbedürftigkeit - bringen es mit sich, dass wiederum nicht allein Meisterwerke für sein Instrument im Mittelpunkt stehen, sondern vor allem Kompositionen, in denen gewisse thematische Assoziationen eine möglichst persönliche Gestaltung finden. Dabei kreisen Levits eigene Gedanken bei "Tristan" weniger um die Liebes- und Todesthematik als solche, sondern vielmehr um Erlebnisse der Nacht und des Nächtlichen - als dunkle Gegenwelt zum bewussten Handeln bei Tage. Psychische Ausnahmezustände geben den Ton vor: "Die Nacht hat so viele Gesichter. Sie kann Zuflucht und Kontrollverlust bedeuten, sie steht für Liebe und Tod, und sie ist die Zone tiefer Ängste", sagt Levit. "Im Adagio von Mahlers Zehnter Sinfonie gibt es den berühmten Aufschrei des dissonanten Schmerzensakkords, und Wagners 'Tristan und Isolde' inszeniert geradezu eine Art emotionale Kernschmelze. Alle wesentlichen Geschehnisse des Stücks spielen sich in der Nacht ab. Auch Hans Werner Henze spricht in seinen Erinnerungen an die Entstehungszeit von 'Tristan' von Alpträumen und traumartigen Halluzinationen." Henzes "Tristan - Préludes für Klavier, Tonbänder und Orchester" - ein schwärmerisch-raffinierter Hybrid aus Soloklavier, Elektronik, Konzert und Sinfonie - bildet das Herzstück des Albums. Es ist die erste Orchesterproduktion Levits überhaupt. Unter der Leitung von Franz Welser-Möst hatte Levit das suggestive Werk, von dem bisher nur die kompromissbehaftete Aufnahme unter Leitung des Komponisten greifbar war, bei den Salzburger Festspielen als auch mit dem Gewandhausorchester in Leipzig aufgeführt; im Zusammenhang mit den Leipziger Konzerten entstand 2019 die vorliegende Aufnahme.Franz Liszts dritter Liebestraum ist heute als sentimentaler Show-Stopper aller Klavierpoeten bekannt. Dabei ist auch dieses Nocturne in As-Dur durchaus tragisch grundiert. Zurück geht es auf ein Kunstlied Liszts auf Verse von Ferdinand Freiligrath (1810-1876). Der Beginn des Gedichts lautet: "O lieb', so lang du lieben kannst!, O lieb', so lang du lieben magst!, Die Stunde kommt, die Stunde kommt, wo du an Gräbern stehst und klagst!"Nächtlich Verzweifeltes auch bei Mahler: Ende Juli 1910, mitten an der Arbeit am ersten Satz seiner Zehnten, erfuhr der Komponist von einer Affäre seiner Frau. Igor Levit spielt dieses Adagio in einer wenig bekannten Klaviertranskription des schottischen Komponisten Ronald Stevenson, für dessen große "Passacaglia on DSCH" er sich zuletzt so stark eingesetzt hat. Erst in "Harmonies du Soir", der elften der 12 "Études d'exécution transcendante" von Franz Liszt, scheint, bei aller Verdichtung pianistischer Majestät, eine Versöhnung auf. Die am Ende des Programms erklingenden "Abendklänge" bilden das friedliche Gegenstück zu den Ekstasen und Alpträumen, die den Nachtgeweihten bei Wagner oder Mahler widerfahren.

Wiederveröffentlichung eines lang vergriffenen Album das 1982 erstmalig erschien und im Channel One & Harry J Studio mit Soldgie Hamilton am Mischpult und den Musikern der Roots Radics eingespielt wurde. Neun der zehn Stücke wurden von Linval Thompson selbst produziert, der Titelsong der LP von Henry "Junjo" Lawes. Dieser basiert auf dem "I'm Not Getting Crazy" Riddim, der durch Frankie Pauls "Worries In The Dance" weltweit populär wurde. Der Tune "I Spy" wiederum hat den selben Riddim wie Eek-A-Mouses "Do You Remember". Die Riddims der Stücke "Are You Ready", "Call Me", "Things Couldn't Be The Same" und "Holding On To My Girlfriend" kamen auch bei den legendären Scientist Dub-Alben zum Einsatz.

Flogging Molly ist weniger eine Band als vielmehr eine transatlantische, keltische Punk-Institution. Über den Verlauf von 25 Jahren und nach tausenden von Konzerten auf der ganzen Welt hat Flogging Molly die Grenzen zwischen den Genres überschritten. Sie ist zu einer der wenigen Bands geworden, die buchstäblich an einem Tag mit The Chieftains und am nächsten Tag mit Motörhead die Bühne teilen. Für Flogging Mollys siebtes Album "Anthem" beschloss die Band um das Ehepaar Dave King (Gesang, Gitarre, Bodhrán) und Bridget Regan (Geige, Blechflöte, Backing Vocals), zu ihren Wurzeln zurückzukehren. Die Band nahm 14 Songs in 14 Tagen mit Steve Albini (Nirvana, Pixies) im Electrical Audio Studio in Chicago auf. Letztlich gibt es keine andere Band wie Flogging Molly, die so mühelos zwischen Punk und Folk wechseln kann. Die Tatsache, dass mittlerweile mehrere Generationen von Fans zu den Konzerten der Band kommen, ist ein Beweis für ihre anhaltende Relevanz. Damit schließt sich der Kreis zurück zu "Anthem". "Mit dieser Platte sind wir auf eine Art und Weise zu den Grundlagen zurückgekehrt, wie wir es nicht hätten tun können, wenn wir nicht schon seit 20 Jahren zusammen gespielt hätten", fasst King zusammen. Die Band und die Welt haben in den letzten Jahren viel durchgemacht. "Anthem" handelt von dem kollektiven Geist, den wir alle besitzen und der es uns erlaubt, in die Zukunft zu blicken.

Das Album
enthält außerdem Stücke für Cello und Klavier von Beethoven und Mendelssohn, die Sheku zusammen mit seiner Schwester und Konzertpartnerin, Isata Kanneh-Mason, spielt. Neben seiner Schwester hat Sheku mit vielen Musikerfreund:innen zusammengearbeitet, darunter dem Jazzpianisten Harry Baker, der Sopranistin Pumeza Matshikiza und dem Sänger Zak Abel, mit dem Sheku einen neuen Popsong für dieses Album geschrieben hat.

In the spring of 2020, Willem Ardui and Jean-Valéry Atohoun of blackwave. found themselves in a difficult creative and personal period and in need of a change of scenery to recharge. They find their peace in the cosmopolitan melting pot of Los Angeles, the City of Angels, and for Ardui and Atohoun also a city of dreams. A dreamworld in which they rediscover themselves as artists and as individuals.



The spark from which blackwave. had emerged in 2016 caught fire again during their 20-day trip to the American West Coast. With renewed passion, inspiration and vision, the duo writes and works on new music, as if in a daze, day and night, with no limits to the creative process. With about thirty demos in their pocket, Ardui and Atohoun fly back to Belgium. Three days later, the first covid-lockdown hits them cold and the regained enthusiasm slowly ebbs away. Another period of uncertainty began, and at one point it was even doubted whether the group would continue to exist...



But the towel is not thrown in the ring. blackwave. starts polishing the American demos and distills 11 tracks from them. These now make up 'no sleep in LA', their second full-length album and follow-up to 2019's successful 'ARE WE STILL DREAMING?' 'no sleep in LA' is about the highs and lows of the past years, the insights they have gained, the difficulties and the beautiful moments. Everything about the record feels a lot more mature as a result. Existential themes are explored more and more deeply. Doubt and uncertainty, depression, grief and loss, dreams and ambitions, nostalgia, love and desire, no stone is left unturned.



The album also exudes maturity on a musical level: it is more compact in length than its predecessor, but the instrumentation is more in-depth. Strings, horns, backing vocals and other session musicians enrich the genre-transcending sound of blackwave. Everything is arranged to perfection without being delineated. The common thread is the thoughtful and lively lyrics of the two frontmen, and the layered production of Willem Ardui. To this end, Ardui received help on a number of tracks from the likes of Paul Meany (Twenty One Pilots), MiSCHiEF BOY (Cantrell), Spencer Petersen (Sego), Tobie Speleman (incidentally mixer of the entire record), and even his younger brother Remco Ardui.



Celebrated guest features include Lute (signed to Dreamville, J.Cole's label), Abhi The Nomad (artist from Austin, Texas who met the duo in LA) and Caleborate (a good friend and old friend to blackwave. fans). Kirby, who has already collaborated with the likes of Beyoncé and Kanye West, co-wrote the song "I Miss" on the album.

»Mediocrity and the Master Narrative« is about coming to terms with having grown up with unrealistic expectations of life. Moose Malloy spent multiple years crafting this many-layered 19 minutes masterpiece by masterfully molding a plethora of reference points and influences. Ranging from minimal music to free-form sampling and the more spiritual kind of Jazz, to geographical influences they never visited (like Mongolia or Mali) and paintings by Lucian Freud or the film Koyaanisqatsi. In a way, this album is not even an album, it's many stories all at once. And they all tell us that our very own life's mediocrity can only be paradoxically dissolved by fully accepting it.

Light Splitting is a love letter to the purest of sonic signals, to curiosity and to the way we interact with sound.

Based out of Berlin, Germany, electronic music composer and performer Hainbach creates shifting audio landscapes THE WIRE called "One hell of a trip". His music has been released on Opal Tapes, Seil Records, Spring Break Tapes, Limited Interest and Marionette. He has been fascinated with sine tones, noise and FM since he discovered the dial on the radio. Never losing his childhood wonder, he still searches for the sounds in between on modular synths and other devices.

Through his YouTube channel Hainbach brings experimental music techniques to a wider audience. He creates videos on the composition of experimental electronic music, esoteric music equipment and avant-garde music techniques. His live A/V show, performing with tape loops, modular synths and test equipment, accompanied by the visuals of Nani Gutiérrez aka Orca, was presented at venues such as Kantine am Berghain, Uebel & Gefährlich, Acud Macht Neu and Arkaoda Berlin.

Flogging Molly ist weniger eine Band als vielmehr eine transatlantische, keltische Punk-Institution. Über den Verlauf von 25 Jahren und nach tausenden von Konzerten auf der ganzen Welt hat Flogging Molly die Grenzen zwischen den Genres überschritten. Die Band nahm 14 Songs in 14 Tagen mit Steve Albini (Nirvana, Pixies) im Electrical Audio Studio in Chicago auf. Letztlich gibt es keine andere Band wie Flogging Molly, die so mühelos zwischen Punk und Folk wechseln kann. Die Tatsache, dass mittlerweile mehrere Generationen von Fans zu den Konzerten der Band kommen, ist ein Beweis für ihre anhaltende Relevanz. Damit schließt sich der Kreis zurück zu "Anthem". "Mit dieser Platte sind wir auf eine Art und Weise zu den Grundlagen zurückgekehrt, wie wir es nicht hätten tun können, wenn wir nicht schon seit 20 Jahren zusammen gespielt hätten", fasst King zusammen. Die Band und die Welt haben in den letzten Jahren viel durchgemacht. "Anthem" handelt von dem kollektiven Geist, den wir alle besitzen und der es uns erlaubt, in die Zukunft zu blicken.
