Auf "The Principle of Doubt" stellten Mekong Delta Uwe Baltrusch als neuen Gitarristen vor, der Reiner Kelch ersetzte, und ließen die 1980er mit einem Highlight ausklingen. Das 1989er Studioalbum der deutschen Tech-Thrash-Pioniere stand seinen beiden Vorgängern in nichts nach, zeichnete sich aber durch die bisher dynamischste Produktion der Band aus - gut so in Hinblick auf jene Orchesterparts, die man Band in Zukunft regelmäßig von der Band zu hören bekommen sollte.

Die vierköpfige Band aus Columbus, Ohio in den Vereinigten Staaten ist seit langem für ihre kraftvolle Mischung aus treibenden Rhythmen, melodischem Gesang und eindringlichen Klanglandschaften bekannt. Mit "Get Well Soon" fügen sie dieser Liste noch packendes Songwriting hinzu. LO-PAN definieren ihren amerikanischen Hard Rock weiter und tiefer aus: Dieser mischt brutzelnden Hardrock mit Metal und einer satten Prise Grunge. LO-PAN haben sich in der pulsierenden Underground-Szene von Columbus, Ohio aufgrund ihrer geteilten Liebe zu Vintage Rock, Stoner Metal und modernem Heavy Metal zusammengefunden. LO-PANs Debütalbum "Sasquanaut" aus dem Jahr 2009 brachte den sofortigen Durchbruch. Das zweite Album "Salvador" (2011) verfeinerte das Klangerlebnis und demonstrierte musikalische Reife. Im Jahr 2019 veröffentlichten LO-PAN "Subtle", das eine Weiterentwicklung ihres Sounds markierte. Die Band wagte das Risiko, mit einer introspektiven und atmosphärischen Herangehensweise neue emotionale Tiefen zu erkundete, was sich bei Kritikern und Fans gleichermaßen auszahlte. Scowl is a band that sounds exactly like their name implies. Venomous, fierce, antagonistic. A sneer not to be crossed. Over the last five years, the Santa Cruz, California, band has firmly planted their flag in the hardcore scene with their vicious sound and ripping live show, sharing stages around the world with Circle Jerks, Touché Amoré, and Limp Bizkit, and filling slots at prominent festivals like Coachella, Sick New World, and Reading and Leeds. But with their new album, Are We All Angels (Dead Oceans), Scowl is aiming to funnel all that aggression through a more expansive version of themselves. Much of Are We All Angels grapples with Scowl’s newfound place in the hardcore scene, a community which has both embraced the band and made them something of a lightning rod over the past few years. Standout single “Not Hell, Not Heaven” outright rejects the narratives cast onto them by outsiders. “It’s about feeling victimized and being a victim, but not wanting to identify with being a victim,” explains vocalist Kat Moss. “It’s trying to find grace in the fact that I have my power. I live in my reality. You have to deal with whatever you're dealing with, and it ain’t working for me.” The band breaks from a sense of disassociation to seek deeper connections on “Fantasy.” “It’s incredibly challenging to try to balance my love for the scene while also feeling, in some spaces, extremely alienated and hated,” Moss says. “‘Fantasy’ is about feeling like I don't know how to connect with these people anymore, because I have shelled myself away so hard.” The album ends in a philosophical place on the closing, titular track, “Are We All Angels,” asking questions like, “Is this all there is?” and ultimately putting it on the listener to decide. “It’s about the personal struggle between good and evil. It doesn’t matter how ‘good’ or ‘bad’ you are, there are systems that will try to rewrite your narrative no matter what you actually do,” explains Moss, noting that punctuation on “Are We All Angels” has been deliberately omitted in an attempt to leave the statement open-ended. Are We All Angels is the highly anticipated follow-up to Scowl’s debut, 2021’s How Flowers Grow, a 16-minute primal scream over punishing riffs. But amidst the pounding chaos, it was the record’s sonic outlier, a cleaner interlude called “Seeds to Sow,” that, true to its name, planted the seed for what was to come for the band. “It kind of laid out this destiny for us, and I feel like now we’re fulfilling that,” says drummer Cole Gilbert. The band continued to expand their sound on 2023’s widely acclaimed Psychic Dance Routine EP, incorporating more pop hooks and favoring gentler singing over heavy screaming, paving the way for what would come next. Scowl’s growth got a huge boost from producer Will Yip (Turnstile, Title Fight, Code Orange, Balance and Composure), who broadened the band’s scope. “Will would say, ‘Everything you have here is correct, but it’s in the wrong place,’” says Gilbert. Moss adds: “Will really helped restructure a lot of the material. Some songs he tore apart to make more space for the really good hooks and choruses.” But even through this more eclectic approach, Scowl loses none of their edge, and still manages to convey the anger and frustration that lies underneath. They are deeply committed to carrying the ethos of punk and its sense of community. “Hardcore and punk have sculpted how we operate, what we want to do as a band, and how we participate,” says guitarist Malachi Greene. “At our core, we are a punk and a hardcore band, regardless of how the song shifts and changes.

Kerrigan sind eine der hoffnungsvollsten deutschen Newcomer-Bands aus dem Bereich des traditionellen Heavy Metal. 2019 in Freiburg als Nebenprojekt der Funeral-Doomer Lone Wanderer von Bruno S. (Gitarre, Bass) und Jonas W. (Gesang, Gitarre) gegründet, veröffentlichten High Roller Records 2023 das von der Presse in den höchsten Tönen gelobte Debütalbum »Bloodmoon«. Die Scheibe enterte in der metallischen Fachpresse sogar die eine oder andere Jahresbestenliste. Wegen der großen Nachfrage haben sich High Roller Records nun dazu entschieden, auch das Mini-Album »Heavy Metal 2020« wieder für die Öffentlichkeit zugänglich zu machen. Bruno S. und Jonas W. hatten im Jahre 2020 vier Stücke als Demo-Tape aufgenommen: das Titelstück “ Heavy Metal 2020”, “Intruders”, “Force And Will” sowie die Coverversion von “Rest In Peace” der englischen Wolf. Fucking Kill Records sorgten später für eine limitierte Veröffentlichung auf Kassette und Vinyl. Ursprünglich war das Material während eines Jams für die Hauptband von Bruno und Jonas entstanden, die Doom-Formation Lone Wanderer. “Mit Lone Wanderer machen wir eigentlich genau das Gegenteil von Kerrigan”, lacht Gitarrist und Bassist Bruno: “Langsam, tief dröhnend und depressiv. Da nimmt man sich spielerisch sehr zurück, weshalb sich Kerrigan manchmal wie ein Befreiungsschlag anfühlt. Es erinnert mich auch an die Jugend, als ich meinen ersten Gitarrenhelden nacheiferte.” Ein prägendes Merkmal von Kerrigan sind die teilweise doppelstimmig gespielten Gitarrenleads, die im Ansatz auch bereits auf »Heavy Metal 2020« zu hören waren. Mit “Rest In Peace” verbeugten sich Kerrigan seinerzeit vor der NWOBHM, wie Gitarrist und Sänger Jonas bestätigt: “Ja, Wolf war eine der Bands, die wir während der frühen Jam-Phasen sehr intensiv gehört haben, und ‘Rest In Peace’ ist einfach ein Überhit! An den Größen Maiden und Priest kommt man eh nicht vorbei, diese Einflüsse können wir nicht abstreiten. Neben den NWOBHM-Bands lief bei mir aber auch sehr viel Heavy Load oder frühe Accept, deren ‘Neon Nights’ in unserer Demophase wohl die teutonische Entsprechung zu ‘Rest In Peace’ war, was die Dauerschleife angeht.” Mit Sicherheit werden wir von Kerrigan in Zukunft noch viel hören. Jetzt ist es allerdings erstmal an der Zeit, sich noch einmal dem Frühwerk dieses hoffnungsvollen Newcomer-Acts zu widmen. Lehnt euch zurück, dreht den Lautstärkeregler auf und genießt »Heavy Metal 2020«.

Bis ins Jahr 1973 reicht die Historie von Mass zurück, als Günther V. Radny (das V. steht für Viktor) mit Sänger Josef Hartl, Gitarrist Walter Speck und dem Schweizer Drummer Charles Frey (heute als Akron bekannter Autor) die Formation Black Mass startete. Nachdem Speck wegen psychischer Probleme mit tödlichen Folgen ausfiel, ersetzte ihn der Saarbrücker Gitarrist Gerd Schneider, der zuvor mit ScorpionsSchlagzeuger Hermann Erbel alias Herman Rarebell bei RS Rindfleisch gespielt hatte. Schneider musste allerdings nach einem Jahr wegen massiver Drogenproblemen wieder gehen und wurde durch den englischen Gitarristen Mick Thackeray (The Merseys), der in der Schweiz mit den Slaves und Countdowns, und in München mit Abi Ofarim spielte, ersetzt. Zur gleichen Zeit ersetzte Johannes Eder, von der englischen Band I Drive kommend, Drummer Frey, der sich laut Radny auf den Büchertripp begeben hatte. Zudem wurde der Bandname auf Mass verkürzt.

In dieser Besetzung nahm MASS im April 1975 im Studio 7o in München mit Dave Siddle am Mischpult, der unter anderen mit den Beatles, Jimy Hendrix, Jeff Beck, Animals und Deep Purple arbeitete ein Album auf. Aufgrund der Drogenprobleme von Sänger Josef Hartl wurde dieses Album nie veröffentlicht. Leider sind diese Bänder bis heute verschollen. Doch damit nicht genug der unruhigen Zeiten: Ein Jahr später mussten Hartl (Drogenprobleme, verstorben 1998) und Thackeray (Übermäßiger Alkoholkonsum), gehen.

Mit dem aus Berlin gekommenen Detlef „Dave“ Schreiber als neuem Gitarristen war die Formation als Trio 1976 erst einmal stabilisiert. 1977 entstand das Album Back To The Musicâl, welches bei United Artists Records (Hawkwind, ELO, Don McLean) erschien. In Folge wurden Mass als teils boogieorientierte Hardrockgruppe, anschließend als Heavy Metal Band bekannt und genießen heute ähnlich wie Accept, Scorpions, Trance oder Fargo Pionierstatus. Nach einer zeitweisen Umbenennung in Monsters kehrte Bandboss Günther V Radny kürzlich mit Mass zurück und lieferte eine gefeierte Reunion-CD. Die Band wurde auch kürzlich von Golden Core/ZYX geehrt, da je ein Track von Mass und Monsters auf der Compilation Sound & ActionGerman Hardrock & Heavy Metal Rarities Vol. 1 zu finden ist. Im Zuge dieses Kontaktes kam es zu der längst überfälligen Idee, das Debütalbum von Mass erstmals auf CD (und erneut auf Vinyl) zu bieten. Dieses Gesamtpaket gibt es jetzt als Bundle und ist somit ein absolutes Sammlerstück.

Although still very much a secret, Oakland, California's Justin Pinkerton has perfected and expanded his Futuropaco project to a stunning degree over the past seven years. The one-man band is deeply rooted in Pinkerton's masterful drumming, which builds on the legacy of 1960's and 1970's legends such as Tony Allen and Jaki Liebezeit. But he's an accomplished multi-instrumentalist as well, and the Futuropaco sound is a colourful fusion that sees him throw fuzz guitars, flutes, vintage synthesizers and Anatolian string instruments into the mix - seemingly without much effort. The second and final volume of the "Fortezza Di Vetro" series feels like a conclusion, the sound of an artist reaching his creative zenith. It's an experimental album, yet immediately seductive in its energy - channeling the vibey art-rock of Tortoise, Black Sabbath riffage and vintage Italian film music in equal measures. It's such a refined and esoteric blend, yet hits so directly. It's simply impossible not to crank the volume knob once this slab of vinyl is on the turntable, followed by immediate head nodding. Buy the ticket, take the ride. Justin Pinkerton is a vastly talented rhythmsmith, best known as a member of Californian stoners Golden Void. On this project he plays all the other instruments too so he can do what he blooming well feels. And it's not as if the drum solos go on for twenty minutes like those of John Bonham and his pale imitators. Nope. Into tracks that are both jam-packed and concise, Pinkerton has squeezed his love of vintage Italian library music, classic krautrock and heavy psych rock. At one point it suggests Grails have been performing super-speed cover versions of fusion-era Miles Davis with Adrian Younge on production. -The Quietus Futuropaco returns in a big way with Fortezza di Vetro, a buzzing, groove-heavy album that expands on what came before while staying true to the project's origins. Dizzying, fuzzed-out psych with just the right amount of melancholy for good measure. Justin Pinkerton and Futuropaco have done it again. Fantastico! -Complex Distractions

Benefits return with the their highly anticipated second album, "Constant Noise" Due out 21st March via Invada Records,"Constant Noise" follows the band's debut album `NAILS' which earned widespread press and radio support and appeared in album of the year lists inc. Louder Than War (#1), BBC 6Music, NME, The Quietus,The Line Of Best Fit and more. After a succession of different line-ups, Benefits have now settled as a two-piece made up of Hall and electronic virtuoso Robbie Major. "We're still angry" says Hall, "just angry in a different way to before. If the previous record was black and white, we wanted this to be technicolour." The first taste of this new musical direction came in the form of "Land Of The Tyrants", which saw the band delving into bass-heavy, dance inflected rhythms and subtle industrial undercurrents. Follow-up single `Relentless' featured The Libertines' Peter Doherty and saw the band move further into ambient electronic atmospherics. Doherty is just one of the collaborators on the new record, Zera Tonin, the singer of queerpop-electro duo Arch Femmesis, Neil Cooper of Therapy?, and Middlesborough rapper Shakk all make cameos. Stainless starteten offiziell im Jahre 2022 in Portland, Oregon. Aktuelle und frühere Musiker waren vorher bei lokalen Underground-Bands wie Black Breath, Long Knife, Lebenden Toten, Halt, Bellicose Minds, Nightfell, Malikili und Ripper aktiv. Das erste Lebenszeichen der Band war die in Eigenregie gepresste 7" Single "Snakebite"/"Too Hot To Steal". Nun erscheint als Nachfolger das Mini-Album "Nocturnal Racer" mit dem Titelstück sowie "Shot For Shot", "Believer" und "The Evil Lies". Die vier Songs wurden 2023/24 in den Red Lantern Studios (Portland) von Larissa Cavacece (Gesang), Mira Sonnleitner (Bass), Joe Sugar (Drums) und Jamie Byrum (Gitarre, Gesang) eingespielt. Mittlerweile ist Joe Sugar durch Terrica Catwood von der Band Time Rift ersetzt worden. "Ich würde uns als Hardrock oder Heavy Rock bezeichnen", weiß Gitarrist und Sänger Jamie Byrum. "Es gibt zwar viele Elemente des Heavy Metal in unserer Musik, aber es wäre wohl missverständlich, uns als reinrassige Hevy-Metal-Band zu bezeichnen. Die erste Single war im Gegensatz zu "Nocturnal Racer" noch viel mehr im Blues verwurzelt." Frontlady Larissa Cavacece, die von Kanada nach Portland gezogen ist, prägt mit ihrer messerscharfen Stimme irgendwo zwischen Leather Leone und Wendy O. Williams den Sound von Stainless nicht unwesentlich. Jamie Byrum: "Ihre Einflüsse gehen weiter als Chastain und Plasmatics. Allerdings weiß ich, dass sie es ehrt, in einem Atemzug mit den beiden genannt zu werden. Larissa besitzt einen Goth-Background, schwört aber auch auf Crust-Bands wie Amebix und Sacrilege. Die Beziehung von Dave und Paula Lombardo ist wie geschaffen für eine romantische Komödie. Die schwedischen Heavy Rocker GREENLEAF haben mit ihrem neunten Album "The Head & The Habit" den vorläufigen Gipfel ihrer langen Evolution erklommen. Die musikalische Handschrift und Virtuosität von Gitarrist Tommi Holappa, seit mehr als 25 Jahren einer der Vorreiter und tragenden Säulen der europäischen Stoner Rock Szene, zeichnen sich deutlich ab. Die legendäre, 2003 im schwedischen Borlänge gegründete Metal-Band meldet sich fünf Jahre nach ihrem Chart-Erfolg "Worship Or Die" mit einem brandneuen Studioalbum zurück.
Die Band entschied sich, das Album "The End Of It All" zu nennen, als Reflexion darüber, wie es in der Welt heute aussieht und auch, um irgendwie zu sagen, dass dies vielleicht das letzte Album in der Karriere der ASTRAL DOORS sein könnte.
Nils Patrik Johanssons Texte und Gesangsmelodien sind über jeden Zweifel erhaben, so wie es bei den ASTRAL DOORS schon immer der Fall war. Darüber hinaus beweisen die beiden Songwriter Johan Lindstedt und Joachim Nordlund einmal mehr, dass sie genau das richtige Gespür dafür haben, wie eingängiger Heavy Metal heutzutage zu klingen hat.

die erste Band von Klaus Sperling (Primal Fear, Nitrogods, Sinner) und Michael Moretto (Tyran´Pace) -nur regional veröffentlichte Aufnahmen von 1984 und 1985, erstmals auf CD & LP -qualitativ hochwertiger Heavy Metal mit 100% Achtzigerfeeling -CD/LP mit Liner Notes, Abbildungen und extrem vielen Fotos -Coverartwork von Michaela Widmayer (Manilla Road, Mark Shelton, Trance) Manchmal fällt man vom Glauben ab. Labels wie Noise, Steamhammer, Mausoleum, Earthshaker oder die GAMA Labelgruppe haben in den Achtzigern neben vielen wichtigen und guten Alben auch Durchschnitt oder Schlimmeres veröffentlicht.

Währenddessen blieb eine talentierte und mitreißende Band namens SQUADRON aus dem Raum Stuttgart (bis heute) unentdeckt. Selbst auf Encyclopedia Metallum findet man keinen Eintrag mit den zwei Demos, die man 1984 und 1985 aufgenommen hat. Noch nicht. 1983 wurde die Band gegründet, beeinflusst von Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Warrior, Manowar, Ozzy Osbourne und Dio. Eine der ersten Shows fand im Vorprogramm von Tyrant statt. Schnell bekam man den Ruf einer gigantischen Liveband, zumal man nicht nur auf ausgefeilte Songs achtete, sondern auch auf Outfit und Show. Nur wenige Monate später kamen bereits 400 Fans in die Neckerhalle Esslingen, obwohl am gleichen Tag Accept quasi um die Ecke spielten.

Außerdem brach man den Zuschauerrekord in „Die Röhre“ Stuttgart, wo man nach dem zweiten Demo eine große Show auffuhr. Natürlich meldeten sich nun auch größere Labels, doch zu einem Vertrag kam es nicht. Nach einem Festival mit Rage, Veto und Stranger, sowie einigen Shows mit Czakan war 1987 Schluss. Michael Moretto stieg in Folge bei Kymera ein, um den zu Pink Cream 69 abgewanderten Andi Deris zu ersetzen. Klaus Sperling ist bis heute aktiv im Geschäft und seit 2011 bei den Nitrogods. Bekannt wurde er durch sein Drumming bei Primal Fear, Sinner, MP und Freedom Call. Das Material wurde in liebevoller Kleinarbeit restauriert und gemastert und ist nun erstmals auf CD und LP zu hören. Booklet und LP-Inlay enthalten Liner Notes und tonnenweise Fotos und Abbildungen. Diese Band hätte es damals weit bringen können…

Fünf Kultalben als Vinylboxset -alle LPs mit bedrucktem Inlay und speziellen Vinylmastering -Heavy Metal aus Deutschland, aus den „goldenen Achtzigern“ - Death Warrant und Exploder sind heute im Original nicht unter 100 Euro zu bekommen Die Achtzigerjahre gelten als die innovative Hochphase des Heavy Metal und während England die New Wave Of British Heavy Metal auf den Weg brachte, bauten die deutschen Bands auf die ersten Helden wie Scorpions oder Accept auf.

DEATH WARRANT und CUTTY SARK waren frühe Bands in diesem Segment und liefern auf ihren Alben diese nicht wiederholbare Aufbruchstimmung. EXPLODER, SUDDEN DEATH und MYSTERY veröffentlichten ihre LPs in der zweiten Hälfte der Achtziger und zeigen, wie divers, aber auch gefestigt der „German Metal“ hier bereits war. Die fünf Schallplatten kommen im vollen Golden Core-Umfang: Mit bedrucktem Einleger und mit einem speziellen Mastering. Zudem wurden alle Alben von Andreas „Neudi“ Neuderth sorgfältig remastert.

Als Einzelveröffentlichungen haben die LPs in den relevanten Magazinen durchweg sehr gute Kritiken bekommen. Über Exploder gab es zudem ein Feature im Deaf Forever.

Back in 2018, Argentinian producer Fernando Pulichino released ‘Search of Indigo’ on Leng, a shuffling slab of colourful, Balearic-adjacent dub disco featuring his own distinctive lead vocals and backing vocals from Luca Gasparini. Six years on, the track returns renewed and refreshed thanks to a string of new floor-friendly reworks by LTJ Xperience and Pulichino himself. Fernando kicks off the EP with his ‘AM Mix’, an inspired re-invention that re-frames the song as a hard-wired, acid-fired chugger – all restless, razor-sharp TB-303 lines, low-slung bass guitar and sparkling piano riffs. On the digital version of the EP Pulichino has also offered up his ‘PM Mix’, a deliciously Balearic disco dub rich in colourful synth sounds, elastic bass, flanged guitars and sun-bright piano licks. It's LTJ Xperience’s trio of remixes that lie at the heart of the EP though. The Italian producer, real name Luca Trevisi, initially made his name as a downtempo and nu-jazz producer before perfecting a trademark style of chugging, slow-motion hedonism that draws influence from both deep house and nu-disco. His main Remix foregrounds many of these trademark elements, in the process delivering a bongo-rich chugger laden with delayheavy bass guitar sounds, head-nodding drums, heady guitar loops and echoing vocal snippets. On the Dirty Mix, Trevisi reaches for tight, short TB-303 ‘acid’ loops, a more sparse and heavy rhythm track offering a more heads-down, dubbed-out affair that should delight those who love late night and early morning hypnotism with flashes of wide-eyed sonic bliss. Then, to round things off, Trevisi delivers a heady, atmospheric and spaced-out Dub full of jazz guitar licks, bubbling electronics, vocal snippets and effects-laden bass. It’s a winning combination.

"May Our Chambers Be Full" ist das erste aufgezeichnete Dokument der Zusammenarbeit zwischen Emma Ruth Rundle und dem experimentellen Doom Metal Sextett Thou. Roadburn Festival-Organisator Walter Hoeijmakers wusste von der gemeinsamen Liebe für das Schaffen der jeweils anderen und führte beide zusammen. Während ihre Musik recht unterschiedlich erscheint, haben sowohl Emma Ruth Rundle als auch Thou ihre jeweiligen Karrieren damit verbracht, an den äußeren Rändern der Heavy-Metal-Szene zu lauern, wobei beide mehr dem DIY-Punk und seinem spirituellen Nachfolger, Grunge, nahestehen. "May Our Chambers Be Full" bewegt sich sowohl musikalisch als auch thematisch auf einer ähnlichen, sehr feinen Linie. Während das Solo-Material von Emma Ruth Rundle eine Mischung aus Post-Rock und Folk ist und Thou typischerweise für ihre heruntergekommene, doomige Schlammschlacke bekannt sind, hat die Verbindung der beiden eine Platte geschaffen, die mehr in die Richtung des Seattle-Grunge-Sounds und dem davon beeinflussten Alternative Rock aus den 1990er Jahren geht, wobei die Kernidentitäten der KünstlerInnen weitgehend erhalten geblieben sind. Ebenso ist der lyrische Inhalt des Albums eine Mischung aus mentalem Trauma, existenziellen Krisen und der ekstatischen Tradition der expressionistischen Tanzbewegung. "Excessive sorrow laughs. 12 years after their debut release, Klone, hailing from central France, are back with their 6th studio effort: Here Comes The Sun shows a mature rock band whose musical universe has expanded over the years. The Gates of Slumber return with a new album out in November on Svart Records “I never intended to pick up with The Gates of Slumber ever again in 2014. While I did start the band and wrote most of the first album it was never intended to be a one man show.” -Karl Simon, 2024 Indiana’s True Doom Metal legends The Gates of Slumber return with their sixth album out in November via Svart Records. The self-titled album is the band’s first full length offering since The Wretch from 2011. The Gates of Slumber was formed by Karl Simon in 1998. Various people were in and out of the group between 1998 and 2001, when the Blood Encrusted Deth Axe demo was recorded with Jamie Walters aka Dr. Phibes/Athenar (Boulder, Midnight) on drums and bass. In 2003 Jason McCash took over the bass duties and was a long-time member of the band until his untimely demise in 2014, after which Simon decided it was time to call it quits. That was until 2019 when the renowned metal festival Hell Over Hammaburg wanted to bring the band back on stage to perform at the festival’s 2020 edition. Simon reformed the band with its original member Chuck Brown on drums and Steve Janiak on bass and got back to work. “We’d been asked several times to play Hell Over Hammaburg. But there was no “we” to play. The germ of the idea started. We started re-learning songs from the first LP. It wasn’t too long into the rehearsals that we started coming up with new songs.”, states Simon. After a reunion tour was finished, Covid kicked in to slow down the process. Half of the album was already written but the remaining half took its time, and the songs were left to stew in their juices. In recent years, the introductory texts for the Pop Ambient compilation series, which is released every year on Kompakt as the last release before the Christmas break, often began with the sentence "Every year again...".

“Every year again”, a quiet, almost unnoticed maxim of self-evidentness. Because this is already the 25th issue to be published this year.

25 years in increasingly fast-moving times in the even faster-moving music business is an eternity that doesn't just feel like it. It is all the more remarkable how I, as someone who is always restless and often driven by this fast pace himself, pleasantly almost haven’t realised how - in pop-ambient contexts - time does not pass (or passes differently) in the best sense.

When compiling the 25th edition I was asked, among other things, what it was like that I was still doing this and whether I had a favorite track. In the spirit of bringing all the tracks together I don't have a favorite track, or all of them. But I have a favorite part (moment) that I played. In this case it was a broad chord in a change of key at minute 2:55 in the piece Circles by Max Würden. A moment of majesty and familiarity that, at that moment, contains the entire Pop Ambient cosmos, that just works and doesn't explain anything - and I said: “...that's the reason why I'm still doing this.. .”

Pop Ambient is a statement without demands. Is promise without expectation. Is a path without a destination. Every year again.

01. Leandro Fresco / Thore Pfeiffer – Goldwasserfluss

The intercontinental collaboration between the two long-standing Pop Ambient artists Leandro Fresco from Argentina and Thore Pfeiffer from Mainz is a regular part of the series. They open this year's anniversary edition with the usual filigree.

02. Pass Into Silence – Mirage

The Japanese artist Tetsuo Sakae aka Pass into Silence returns to Kompakt 20 years after his legendary album “Calm Like A Millpond”. A master of tones that are as fine as they are stoic and crystal clear.

03. Tamarma & Sebastian Mullaert – Follow Me

For the first time, the well-known Swedish producer and DJ Sebastian Mullaert will be performing on Pop Ambient in cooperation with the Georgian sound artist Tamara Davitashvili. Their piece “Follow Me” fits confidently into the intimate, familiar sound cosmos.

04. Sono Kollektiv feat. Nathalie Brum – Periadriatische Naht

Sono Kollektiv is now a fixture on Pop Ambient, this time with Nathalie Brum. In particular, Luis Reich's characteristic flugelhorn always gives their sound that special jazzy touch.

05. Thore Pfeiffer – Phase Locked Loop 1

Thore Pfeiffer is a master of shimmering surfaces and hypnotically meandering loops.

06. Andrew Thomas feat. Julia Parr – Sunshine Night

An old friend from New Zealand is back with spherical sounds. Andrew Thomas, in collaboration with Julia Parr, sprinkles finely placed piano tones into distant soundscapes and even more distant voices.

07. Segensklang – Artifacts of Synthesis

We are pleased that Segensklang will be there again this year after his brilliant Pop Ambient debut last year. Deep and beautiful.

08. Ümit Han – Im Delirium

The Cologne producer Ümit Han is back for the third time. While he has so far explored the more emotional, soundscape aspects of the Pop Ambient universe, this year's piece "Im Delirium" rises to a pulsating mountain of sound with pearly, clear, effervescent sound crystals.

09. Würden & Schäfer – Analysis Of Variance II

In their track Analysis Of Variance II, Max Würden and Lukas Schäfer embed a finely placed beat impulse in a soft bed of modulating soundscapes and pleasant psychedelic spaceyness.

10. Max Würden– Circles

Max Würden once again shows his special feeling for one of the core statements of the Pop Ambient style spectrum. The abstract chord and soundscape movement between formal construction and emotional touchability, which seems like “pop music” under the microscope.

11. Blank Gloss – Jennifer’s Convertible

The Californian guitar-ambient duo takes us into their sublimely beautiful sound cosmos with their usual aplomb. Maximum condensed transparency. Lightness - heavy as gold.

12. Hendrik Meyer – Grün War Die Klamm

Another new addition is Hendrik Meyer. The versatile musician, also known for his MYR project distributed by Kompakt, leads us with a glistening, beautiful “wall of sound” determination into the eternity of a sunset that is only ended by the following track. Filmy Music.

13. Triola – Zum Renngraben

Jörg Burger aka Triola combines his typical “handmade” impulses and accents with a multi-dimensional, digital sound scenario in a pleasantly smoky, blurred stonewashed aesthetic.

As always, the indispensable final mastering by Jörg Burger ensures that everything is brought together and the sound is fine-tuned.

And like every year, the 25th edition is of course wrapped in an abstract, floral magic creation by Veronika Unland. Over the years, the grace of her imagery has increasingly merged with the musical aura to form an unmistakable magical symbiosis.

In den vergangenen Jahren begannen die Anmoderationstexte zur Pop Ambient Kompilation-Reihe, die jedes Jahr als letzte Veröffentlichung vor der Weihnachtspause auf Kompakt erscheint, sinnigerweise immer mal wieder mit dem Satz “Alle Jahre wieder...".

„Alle Jahre wieder”, eine leise, fast unbemerkt zur Formel gewordene Maxime der Selbstverständlichkeit. Denn in diesem Jahr erscheint bereits die 25ste Ausgabe.

25 Jahre in zunehmend schnelllebigen Zeiten im noch schnelllebigeren Musikgeschäft, sind gerne mal eine nicht nur gefühlte Ewigkeit. Umso bemerkenswerter wie mir, als ewig Rastlosem und oft selbst von dieser Schnelllebigkeit Getriebenem, auf angenehme Weise fast entgangen ist wie sehr, in pop ambienten Zusammenhängen (gedacht), die Zeit im besten Sinne nicht (oder anders) vergeht.

Beim Kompilieren der 25sten Ausgabe wurde ich u.a. gefragt, wie es ist, dass ich das immer noch mache und ob ich ein Lieblingsstück hätte. Im Sinne des Zusammenbringens von allen Stücken habe ich kein Lieblingsstück, oder alle. Aber ich habe eine Lieblingsstelle, die ich dann gespielt habe. In dem Fall war es ein breit gesetzter Akkord in einen Tonartwechsel bei Minute 2:55 im Stück Circles von Max Würden. Ein Moment der Erhabenheit und Vertrautheit, der in diesem Moment den gesamten Pop Ambient Kosmos in sich trägt, der einfach nur wirkt und nichts erklärt - und ich habe gesagt: „...das ist der Grund, warum ich das immer noch mache...“

Pop Ambient ist Statement ohne Forderung. Ist Verheißung ohne Erwartung. Ist Weg ohne Ziel. Alle Jahre wieder.

Mittlerweile eine feste Größe auf Pop Ambient ist das Sono Kollektiv, diesmal mit Nathalie Brum. Insbesondere das charakteristische Flügelhorn von Luis Reich gibt ihrem Sound immer wieder diesen besonderen jazzigen Touch.

Max Würden und Lukas Schäfer betten in ihrem Stück Analysis Of Variance II einen fein gesetzten Beat-Impuls in ein weiches Bett aus modulierenden Flächen und angenehmer psychedelischer Spaceyness.

10. Max Würden – Circles

Max Würden zeigt einmal mehr sein besonderes Gefühl für eine der Kernaussagen des Pop Ambient Stilspektrums. Die wie „Popmusik“ unter dem Mikroskop anmutende, abstrakte Akkord- und Flächenbewegung zwischen formaler Konstruktion und emotionaler Berührbarkeit.

11. Blank Gloss – Jennifer’s Convertible

Das kalifornische Gitarren-Ambient Duo entführt uns mit gewohnter Souveränität in ihren erhaben-schönen Soundkosmos. Maximal verdichtete Transparenz. Leichtigkeit - schwer wie Gold.

12. Hendrik Meyer – Grün War Die Klamm

Ein weiterer Neuzugang ist Hendrik Meyer. Der vielseitige Musiker, u.a. auch bekannt durch sein über Kompakt vertriebenes MYR Projekt, führt uns mit gleißend-schöner „wall of sound“ Entschlossenheit in die Ewigkeit eines nur vom nachfolgenden Stück beendeten Sonnenuntergang. Film(Musik)reif.

13. Triola – Zum Renngraben

Jörg Burger aka Triola kombiniert die für ihn typischen „handmade“ Impulse und Akzente mit mehrdimensionalem, digitalen Soundszenario in angenehm rauchig-verwischter Stonewashed Ästhetik.

Für den alles zusammenführenden, klanglichen Feinschliff sorgt, wie immer, das unverzichtbare, finale Mastering von Jörg Burger.

Und wie in jedem Jahr ist auch die 25ste Ausgabe natürlich in ein abstrakt-florales Zaubergebilde von Veronika Unland gehüllt. Die Anmut ihrer Bildsprache ist über die Jahre immer mehr mit der musikalischen Aura zu einer unverkennbaren magischen Symbiose verschmolzen.

Der Thrash-Anteil wurde bis fast auf null reduziert, dafür
zeigte man schonungslos, dass man in den vergangenen
Monaten erneut Fähigkeiten dazugewonnen hatte. Die damals
immer noch junge Band spielte auf einem Niveau, welches
im europäischen Heavy Metal beispiellos war. Nur in Amerika
lieferten Watchtower oder Dream Theater ähnlich kompliziert
arrangiertes Material. In guter Rush Tradition findet man auf
„Steps“ einen langen Song auf der A-Seite (25 Minuten!),
während die B-Seite fünf Tracks und ein Outtro aufweist. Das
Stück „Corridors“ ist ein weiteres Beispiel für die unfassbaren
Fähigkeiten der jungen Musiker. „Steps“ ist insgesamt
eigenständiger als „Life Cycle“, welches noch stark an
Watchtower erinnerte. Durch den Gesang von Franz Herde, der
beim Nachfolger nicht mehr zu hören war, schließt sich hier
das erste Kapitel von Sieges Even.
Aufgenommen wurde „Steps“ 1990 in den Lakeside Studios
von Charlie Bauerfeind, der als Produzent heute bekannt ist.
Trotz des anspruchsvollen Materials war das Album ein Erfolg.
Heute findet man „Steps“ in vielen Listen, wenn es um die
wichtigsten Prog-Metal- oder Progrock-Alben geht. Es war seit
den Originalpressungen auf Steamhammer/SPV nicht mehr
erhältlich! CD und LP wurden separat gemastert, damit jedes
Medium den bestmöglichen Klang entfalten kann.

Als vierköpfige Live-Band schmiedet Kosmodome riffige und doch intelligente Rockmusik. Ihr zweites Album ist ein weiterer Schritt in ihr eigenes progressives Universum. It has now been four years since our return to earth in "2020 back to earth". There we had found a cold and inhospitable place, humanity was inexorably channeled on the path to extinction. We therefore decided to flee immediately in search of another planet where we could dwell.
We therefore came to New Babylon, a planet inhabited by humanoids but also by monstrous and ravenous creatures. There are "giants" that march about raising immense clouds of dust, stealing and plundering everything from people. Giants much like our corporations, they know no defeat and have no weaknesses, at least apparent ones.
There are old warriors like jarek who wait for war to feel like heroes, to feel alive. They find their dimension within the battle, where the line between hero and assassin magically blurs.
There are pyramids erected by men who think they are gods and turn the things life gives them into weapons and death, changing their use and meaning. Little men who think themselves omnipotent, burying knowledge of how life works under piles of lies.
We find a myriad of slaves, surrendered to live in huge troughs. They toil at nothing and find meaning in nothing. They prefer a convenient lie to an inconvenient truth.
In short, we realize that we have arrived in a world very much like earth. We are aliens but in a certain way we feel at home. We want to know, to understand, to evolve. We don't recognize ourselves in this deceived humanity, we don't give in, we believe. Nature, life is wonderful but when one thing loses its usefulness life gently explains to it that it is time to make room for something else. This existence has already explained to the dinosaurs.

Dame Area's highly anticipated fourth studio album, "Toda la verdad sobre Dame Area" ("The Whole Truth about Dame Area"), a collaboration with the renowned labels Mannequin Records and Humo Records.

Formed in 2017 within the vibrant underground scene of Barcelona's Màgia Roja club, Dame Area comprises the Italian-Catalan duo Silvia Konstance and Viktor Lux Crux. They fuse industrial-tribal polyrhythms with minimalist synth basslines, drawing profound inspiration from avant-garde masters such as Esplendor Geometrico, Throbbing Gristle, Suicide, Einstürzende Neubauten, Can, Coil, Swans, Big Black, and Wolf Eyes.

This record represents a new phase in Dame Area's discography. It's a big step up in terms of sound, composition and ideas. This record it's the perfect representation of what they have been playing live the last three years and what most people know them for. Also it serves as a companion piece to 2022’s Toda la mentira sobre Dame Area ("All The Lies About Dame Area"), which had a stronger focus on melody, while this latest record is more aggressive and industrial-influenced, with a greater emphasis on percussion.

Tracks like the Suicide-influenced "Si no es hoy cuando es" and "Sempre Cambiare" are an onslaught of industrialism and experimentalism—formidable, volatile, and unpredictable avant-garde subversion. Silvia explains, "One of our biggest influences is doing what our influences wouldn't do. We're more into dynamics and structures atypical of electronic music, with changes in time signatures, starts and stops, and dynamics more typical of rock music. We use any musical idea from any genre. Some songs on the album are based on flamenco rhythms, others influenced by '60s experimental pop, heavy metal, or contemporary electronic music."

The confrontational "Vengo dall'aldilà" accelerates with heavy percussion, while "Tu me hiciste creer" builds into a rhythmic, transcendent noise of yelled vocals and hypnotic beats. Viktor adds, "This song took us more time to complete than any other we have recorded. It was a very organic process, evolving slowly from some instrumental percussive stuff we were doing live. Then we started using feedback as a rhythmic element (through a metallic sheet), and this was the first song where we incorporated this element, typical of noise-rock and experimental rock."

Elsewhere, "Esto Es Nuestro Ruido" represents a manic, eclectic form of contemporary industrial music, post-punk, and EBM. Silvia notes, "It's the first album we recorded outside a studio. Although we've been playing live with metallic percussion and floor tom from the very start, in the studio, with some exceptions, it was mostly sample-based until now. On Toda la verdad sobre Dame Area, all drums and almost all metallic percussion have been recorded live."

With a growing reputation as one of the best live bands around since their inception, Dame Area has toured extensively across Europe, performing at renowned festivals like Atonal, CTM, Nuits Sonores, Dour, and Fusion, as well as legendary clubs such as Berghain, Tresor, Apolo, and Spook Factory.

It is simply breathtaking how the singer is able to make songs fly with her performance. ""Floor's second child was born just over a month ago, and we hadn't rehearsed together at all... So it was a little nerve-wracking to go to Floor's home studio for vocal recordings. Well, what happened? We had booked twelve working days and after six days everything was completed in style. Floor's preparedness for the sessions was something extreme!""

After the recordings and mixing process, there was one more working phase. Mastering. Could you possibly guess that no shortcuts were taken at this point either?

Spectres have been stirring in the shadows for years now. Dark eyes watching from pallid faces. Siren songs calling to lost souls. In the blackest corners of the UK underground, a name whispered relentlessly amongst the faithful, first with curiosity, then soul-shuddering awe: Zetra.

Zetra is also the title of their striking debut LP. Ten tracks whose indefinable blend of shimmering shoegaze and pulsating goth-metal work deep beneath the skin, it is a masterclass in intimate dark romanticism and sweeping elemental beauty. It could be seen as a reaction to the geography of a strange new world, but also to the jagged topography of the human psyche itself. Is it a manifesto? A roadmap? A riddle waiting to be solved? Travelling alone, armed only with synths, guitar and drum-machine to compose, The Wanderers’ music could sound skeletal. Instead its early metallic bones have been fleshed-out with the electronic new-wave of Gary Numan and Pet Shop Boys and dreamy, droning guitars that hark to heroes like Slowdive and Sonic Youth as well as dark contemporaries Deafheaven and Alcest. delving ist ein Studioprojekt des Multiinstrumentalisten Nicholas DiSalvo, der vor allem als Frontmann der Heavy-Psych-Rock-Band Elder bekannt ist. 'All Paths Diverge' folgt auf das 2021 erschienene Debütalbum 'Hirschbrunnen' und setzt DiSalvos unvorhergesehenen Weg als einer der einzigartigsten Songwriter des Psychedelic-Rock-Genres fort. Nach anderthalb Jahrzehnten als Frontmann des bahnbrechenden progressiven Psychedelic-Quartetts Elder gründete DiSalvo delving als zweites Ventil, um musikalische Ideen auszudrücken, die nicht in das Paradigma seiner Hauptband passten. Später rief er noch die Projekte Weite und Eldovar (mit Kadavar) ins Leben. Delving erforscht Instrumentalmusik mit einem starken Fokus auf Psychedelic Rock, Krautrock, frühe elektronische Musik sowie Ambient-Sounds, und zeigt dennoch immer die eindrucksvollen Melodien und das einzigartige Songwriting, die seine Markenzeichen sind.
Die sieben langen Tracks des Albums wurden erneut aus einem ständig wachsenden Songbook voller Ideen ausgewählt, und sind eine Momentaufnahme von DiSalvos aktuellen musikalischen Interessen sowie seiner Liebe zur Klangerkundung und vermeiden Genre-Grenzen. Der Albumtitel ist als subtile Abfuhr des alten Sprichworts "Alle Wege führen nach Rom" gedacht und stellt klar, dass Veränderungen unvermeidlich sind und nichts in Stein gemeißelt ist.

Legions Of Doom, die Doom-Metal-Supergroup mit Mitgliedern von The Skull, Trouble, Saint Vitus und Corrosion Of Conformity mit einer brandneuen, limitierten 7inch auf Tee Pee Records. Ursprünglich für das dritte The Skull-Album vorgesehen, begannen die Arbeiten an 'All Good Things' vor dem Tod von Eric Wagner (Ex-Trouble) im Jahr 2021. Es übernahm Karl Agell (Lie Heavy, C.O.C., Blind) die Vocals, unterstützt von The Skulls Ron Holzner (ebenfalls Ex-Trouble) am Bass, Lothar Keller an der Gitarre und Henry Vasquez (Druma), wobei Scott Little an der Gitarre und David Snyder (Trouble, BlackFinger) noch mit an Bord waren. Texte über Hoffnung und Geduld krönen einen flüssigen, schweren Groove und ein knackiges Refrain-Riff in aufrichtiger Metal-Manier. Auf dem Deep Purple-Cover 'Into The Fire' auf der B-Seite verleiht die Band einem Klassiker ihren eigenen Stil - Rock und eine Hommage an die Wurzeln des Doom im Swing-Groove der frühen 70er. Die Ursprünge der Gruppe gehen auf das Jahr 1979 zurück, als sie sich zunächst unter dem Namen Nightstalker formierte. Im Jahr 1981 wechselte die Band jedoch zu ihrem neuen Namen: Cloven Hoof. Der ursprüngliche Sänger David Potter, der Gitarrist Steve Rounds, der Schlagzeuger Kevin Poutney und der Hauptdarsteller Lee Payne am Bass nahmen die Bühnencharaktere 'Earth', 'Fire', 'Water' und 'Air' an. Nachdem sie Demo-Versionen von Songs wie "Return Of The Passover" und "Nightstalker" aufgenommen hatten, veröffentlichten Cloven Hoof 1982 ihre erste 12"-Vinyl-EP "The Opening Ritual" auf Elemental Music. 1984 wurde das selbstbetitelte Cloven Hoof-Album veröffentlicht, gefolgt von "Fighting Back" (1986), "Dominator" (1988) und "A Sultan's Ransom" (1989). Nach der Trennung in den 1990er Jahren kehrten Cloven Hoof 2006 in neuer Besetzung und mit einem neuen Album namens "Eye Of The Sun" zurück. Im Jahr 2014 wurde "Resist Or Serve" aufgenommen, gefolgt von "Who Mourns For The Morning Star?" (2017), beide auf High Roller Records. Das Album war eine Art Wendepunkt für die Band, da sie damit zum ersten Mal in ihrer Karriere in Nordamerika auf Tour gehen konnte. Das Debütalbum von VUUR & ZIJDE ("Feuer & Seide") dreht sich auf bemerkenswerte Weise um Themen wie bedingte und bedingungslose Liebe - und den Unterschied zwischen diesen, die Befreiung von Intimität und Mutterschaft. Mit "Boezem" ("Schoß", wörtlich: "Busen") lehnt es das niederländische Quintetts höflich ab, die ewigen Heavy Metal-Klischees zu bedienen. Obwohl die Niederländer im Black Metal verwurzelt sind und deren Mitglieder in so etablierten Bands wie LASTER, NUSQUAMA, SILVER KNIFE, GREY AURA, WITTE WIEVEN und TERZIJ DE HORDE gespielt haben oder weiterhin dabei sind, haben sie ihren stilistischen Kurs seit dem Split-Album mit IMPAVIDA (2020) korrigiert. Die Entwicklung von einem Trio zu einem 5-köpfigen Ensemble hatte eine größere Bandbreite an Einflüssen und Ideen zur Folge. Die subtilen Veränderungen auch der Produktion reichen aus, um einen Teil des neuen Sounds in der spannenden aktuellen Evolution des Post-Black Metal zu verorten. Die schwarze Seite der Musik drückt sich hauptsächlich in wirbelnden Schlagzeugattacken und surrenden Gitarrenriffs aus. Doch "Boezem" baut noch auf einer weiteren starken Säule auf, denn die Band nennt auch Acts wie COCTEAU TWINS und sogar DEAD CAN DANCE als wichtige Einflüsse, die beide im Post-Punk begannen und sich dann zu verträumteren, meditativen Klängen weiterentwickelten. Synthesizer-Sounds sowie die schöne, warme Stimme von Sängerin Famke tragen offensichtlich zu dieser anderen Seite von VUUR & ZIJDE bei. Die Sängerin zeichnet auch für einige Texte verantwortlich, die in Frysk (Friesisch) verfasst sind. Diese alte germanische Sprache wird noch immer in einigen niederländischen und deutschen Nordseeküstengebieten gesprochen, die sich bis zur dänischen Grenze erstrecken. Alle anderen Texte sind auf Niederländisch verfasst. Mit "Boezem" gelingt VUUR & ZIJDE ein perfekter Balanceakt zwischen ihren gegensätzlichen Polen. Die aggressive Seite mit schwarzen, zum Post-Black Metal verwandelten Elementen kontrastiert mit der lichten Seite von Shoegaze, Post-Punk und Wave. Beide Seiten kreisen in einem endlosen Tanz umeinander, der faszinierende neue Musik hervorbringt. "Boezem" erstrahlt voller Schönheit und ist doch wie eine schwarze Rose zugleich von Dornen übersät.

Desiderio had to cast his mind through time to soundtrack each of the game’s four different epochs of Eterra, with the music of this release focusing mainly on the brighter Divine Era and the darker, apocalyptic Ruined Era. Most eras of the game have a natural, acoustic sound to them with more traditional instrumentation, while the Ruined Era focuses on warped synthetic and acoustic sounds. Over the course of the game’s Early Access period, the composer was able to gather fan feedback, which in turn helped shape the final score.

Some less well-known instruments and techniques colour the music. The sound of the lute helped capture the beauty of the world, while the scratchy, intense tagelharpa embodied the conflict of a war-torn land. In the Ruined Era, fretless bass guitar and expressive Ebow serve to create a sense of unease, with melodic material returning from earlier eras.

Choral lyrics were sung in Old Norse, in particular on the “Last Epoch Theme” with its stirring refrain “Fyoern Oowled” (trans. “Ancient Era”). Vocalists include Ffion Elisa, Colm McGuiness, Mason Lieberman and Matt Lambert.

Waxwork Records is thrilled to release THE EXORCIST III Original Motion Picture Score by Barry DeVorzon. THE EXORCIST III is a 1990 American supernatural horror film written and directed by William Peter Blatty based on his 1983 novel Legion. The film is set fifteen years after the events of The Exorcist (1973) and follows a character from the original film, Lieutenant William F. Kinderman who investigates a series of demonic murders in Georgetown that have the hallmarks fo the Gemini, a deceased serial killer.

THE EXORCIST III features a dark ambient score by Barry DeVorzon (The Warriors, Night of the Creeps). It was the last film score he ever created and features synth drones, sampled chanting, synthesized voices and real voices, and experimental sound design. Of the score, DeVorzon provided exclusively to Waxwork for this album's liner notes: "I was exploring a lot of synthesized sounds and textures and trying to do something that would make the scenes more chilling. Anything that was different, eerie, and had nothing to do with an orchestra. This was new territory for me - it wasn't orchestral, it wasn't rhythm oriented. It was just a really different animal."

Anlässlich des 50-jährigen Bestehens der berühmtesten Vier aus Birmingham werden die "Erfinder" des Heavy Metal von dem prominent besetzten Tribute-Trio um Gitarrist und Sänger Zakk Wylde mit dem Doppelalbum "Doomed Forever Forever Doomed" erneut geehrt. Mit dieser liebevolle Hommage liefern die Amerikaner brillante Interpretationen von BLACK SABBATHs zweitem und drittem Album ab, also die klassischen Heavy Metal-Meisterwerken "Paranoid" (1970) und "Master of Reality" (1971).

ZAKK SABBATH wurden von BLACK LABEL SOCIETY-Gitarrist und Sänger Zakk Wylde gegründet, der auch als langjähriger Lead-Gitarrist von OZZY OSBOURNE und inzwischen auch noch von PANTERA bekannt ist. Nachdem ZAKK SABBATH anfangs mit wechselnden Mitgliedern nur live auftraten, fand die Band schließlich mit dem OZZY OSBOURNE- und ROB ZOMBIE-Bassisten Blasko und Joey Castillo am Schlagzeug (DANZIG, QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE) eine stabile Besetzung. Inspiriert durch das 50-jährige Jubiläum von BLACK SABBATHs selbstbetitelten Debütalbum, veröffentlichte ZAKK SABBATH im Jahr 2020 eine Hommage an diesen monumentalen Heavy Metal-Meilenstein unter dem Titel "Vertigo". Das Album wurde von Kritikern und Fans gleichermaßen mit Lob überhäuft. Das Trio feierte einen weltweiten Erfolg, der sich in beeindruckenden Platzierungen in diversen Charts widerspiegelt: Das Album stieg auf Platz 5 in den US Hard Music Charts, Platz 7 in den Current Rock Albums Charts und Platz 27 in den Billboard Top Album Charts ein. The album will be released through Neurot Recordings in collaboration with Supernatural Cat, the record label of the rock ‘n’ roll graphic design collective Malleus, of which Poia and Urlo are part of.

Ufomammut formed in the late 90s by Poia (guitars, FXs) and Urlo (bass, vocals, FXs, synths), (rising from the ashes of past band Judy Corda), together with Vita (drums). With Levre taking over on drums in 2021, the band has undergone a rebirth, culminating in the release of the album Fenice and the Crookhead EP.

Over the course of 25 years, the band has developed a unique sound that combines heavy, dynamic riff worship with a deep understanding of psychedelic tradition in music.This has resulted in a cosmic, futuristic, and technicolor sound that fully immerses listeners.

The band has produced 10 records along with various other releases, such as compilations, EPs, and live albums.

Now, in 2024, as they celebrate their quarter-century milestone, the band is set to release their latest album, HIDDEN. This album marks a shift in the band’s musical composition, aiming for a more intense and heavy sound, and it’s the third release featuring Levre as the band’s new drummer.

The title, HIDDEN, reflects the concept of the presence of everything in our existence and the ability to bring to light what lies within us. With HIDDEN, Ufomammut delves into a sonic journey that traverses vast expanses of space and time.

From the crushing heaviness to the hauntingly melodies, from the textured compositions to the otherworldly atmospheres, HIDDEN testify the neverending evolution of Ufomammut and their mastery of creating immersive sonic experiences: a fitting celebration of their 25 years of sonic exploration and experimentation.

The album was recorded at Flat Scenario Studio in Piemonte, Italy, with Lorenzo Stecconi handling the mixing and mastering, and Luca Grossi overseeing vocal tracking.
