The King & City label is the subject of three 12" reissues, starting with One Blood's classic Lovers Rock take of William DeVaughn's soul anthem, Be Thankful.

Taking the influence of reggae from the Caribbean diaspora within the cultural melting pot of 70s London, the birth of Lovers Rock, often-dubbed 'romantic reggae', is a uniquely black British sound, developed against a backdrop of riots, racial tension and sound systems.

A style suited to the London scene, it represents an apolitical counterpoint to the then dominant conscious Rastafarian sound and continued the soulful and commonly love-themed rocksteady style.

Active during the scene's peak, King & City was launched by Neville King and Lee Laing to champion the sound and alongside other producers like Dennis Bovell, created genre-defining hits.

Formed in 1979 One Blood was made up of the 5 Robinson brothers - Errol, Jerry, Lloyd, Trevor and Paul - and recording at the legendary TMC studios, went on to release two albums and countless singles.

Be Thankful pays homage to DeVaughn's original, with smooth vocals gliding atop tight drum and bass, vocal jumping up dub pom acapella to summer perfection. The tapes here passed to cohort Lexx, crafting a wonderful discodub that is all groove, expertly cutting back and forth...diamonds in the back, sunroof top.

One of the most important labels in the history of dance music, Easy Street reflected New York club-land through its most

exciting years. From the Garage to The Sound Factory the clubs of the Big Apple echoed to the anthems released on Easy Street and then onto the world.

This compilation gathers up 12 of the most vital and important tracks. From 1984s Go Deh Yaka by Monyaka, through Da Lacy's house anthem 'Hideaway' via Adeva's anthemic 'In & Out My Life' all the bases are covered, whilst seminal producers Blaze, Paul Simpson and Todd Terry are amongst those who were behind the desks on these recordings.

distinctive label art.

Diggin' Disco Deep" is a new, deep-disco orientated offshoot of the successful "Editor's Kutz" label. The target is locked and it's no other than the dusty but not forgotten vinyl chests.
The record begins with "Sleazy McQueen & Romano Arcaini" who collaborate to give new life to a trusted classic.

A central groove is created a new from the looped strings of the bridge creating palpable tension through repetition. "Moments With U" will have you upside down and turn you round and round. Next comes the "Editor's Kutz" captain "VinylAddicted", whose inspiration is based upon a track since 1977.

VA totally reconstructs the original by keeping a repetitive piano loop going and going, while fresh kits, chords and a massive bassline give floor all the warmth that is needed. A male vocal loop and effects bridge the parts and ride the rhythm, until a healing piano and guitar break in the middle of the track offers you some breathing before the hypnotic groove strikes back!

Flipside hosts "SMQ" who returns to his disco-house roots. "Diggin' Disco Deep Theme" has filters, stabs, strings and juicy groove leading the way on this uptempo, beat driven reconstruction. Pompous!

Dr Packer gets busy in the editing suite as he plumps up the bass and beefs up the drums to compliment the string arrangement and crisp percussion of the original.

Certified disco slammer ‘Every Day’ from Joey Negro presents The Sunburst Band was a massive track on the UK soul scene. Joey gives it a signature Disco Re-Bump Remix for that perfect summer anthem. Finally, Ludovic Llorca steps up with his more edgy and electronic project Art Of Tones, which focuses on house and disco sounds featuring the soulful vocal talent of Anduze over a funky slap bass and plenty of dubbed out guitar.

Sorceror's 'Dream Season' defines the Dreamtime sound even further with it's journeys through psyched out space surf sounds with disco grooves.5 tracks dreamed from a moody moment in time and space, to the tape head in the Berkley Arena in San Francisco.

The Cruising’s two cool customers, Yula Vovk and Sergei Demidov, make a remarkable return to Whiskey Pickle, and this time around on the label’s vinyl department. Even as Russians their original tune “Dispassion” has an NYC underground retro-futurism. Their blues vocal sampler, impressive bassline, and impeccable drum programming conjure an Arthur Russell guitar fascination and a cosmic disco weirdo Balearic rhythm exploration.

Malinovsky’s version is centered on a dusty deeper affair. The result is a soft percussive, melancholic remix with a darker synth-scape and intensely psychedelic Eastern echoes.

While the ongoing global pandemic means our chances to gather and dance beneath deep blue skies are likely to be limited, there’s never been a greater need for warm, positive and life-affirming music. NuNorthern Soul has decided to do its bit by offering up a brand new 'Summer Selections' sampler that’s packed to the rafters with magical musical treats lifted from some of the label’s most potent forthcoming releases.

The EP begins with something rather special from Canadian producer Igor B: a gentle, sunrise-ready soundscape rich in languid hand percussion, bubbly synthesizer lines and glistening guitars. Entitled 'Deep Breath', the track is just one of the many highlights you’ll find on his forthcoming debut album, “Stranded Seaside”.

There’s a similarly tactile and immersive feel to 'Early Morning Ferry' by George Koutalieris, a Greek producer whose debut album 'Stop, Look, Listen' will be released by NuNorthern Soul later in the year. On his contribution to 'Summer Selections Two', Koutalieris wraps lilting, sun-soaked guitar solos and soft-touch electronics around a chunky groove that doffs a cap to the more laidback end of the 1970s West Coast rock spectrum.

Next up, long-time friend of the family Chris Coco delivers a stunning interpretation of 'Dinum', an overlooked neo-classical/ambient fusion track by Faroe Islands-based producer Kristian Blak’s Yggdrasil project. Coco’s simmering, string-drenched re-imagining is featured here as a teaser of NuNorthern Soul’s reissue of the 2014 track in the autumn, which will also feature a mind-blowing 10-minute rework by Mike Salta – an artist who is also featured on 'Summer Selections Two'.

This time round you’ll find Salta collaborating with Mortale on the starry, EP-ending ambient bliss of 'Bells of Burgibba', a deliciously drowsy mixture of twinkling electric piano motifs, chiming lead lines and woozy pads taken from the forthcoming “Celestial Hike EP”. It paddles in similar sonic waters to label boss Phil Cooper’s stretched-out, slo-mo Balearic dub of new signing Faint Waves’ 'Aphrodesia', a teaser of the artist’s “Islands In Time EP” which can be found elsewhere on 'Summer Selections Two'.

No NuNorthern Soul label sampler would be complete without a contribution from BJ Smith, an artist who has been with the imprint from its earliest days. Smith returns to the imprint with another reminder of his uncanny ability to deliver ear-catching cover versions that re-cast classic cuts as loved-up rays of Balearic sunshine. This time round Smith takes us on a huggable shuffle through Prefab Sprout’s 'All the World Loves Lovers', re-imagining it as a future Balearic anthem and a summer 2020 sing-along. It’s not only a sneak peak of what we can expect from 'Dedication to the Greats Volume 3', his first covers collection for nigh on six years, but also a life-affirming highlight of an EP that oozes musical positivity from start to finish.

X-Ray records' catalogue is as under the radar as it is rich and ahead of its time. Releasing between 1992 and 1994, most of the label's outputs were produced by Raymond Castoldi. Although people primarily know Castoldi for being the music director and organist in Madison Square Garden, he also has a lesser known chapter of his life. In the early 1990s, Raymond released 6 EPs on his imprint X-Ray Records. By coupling his musical education with a four-on-the-floor club pattern, Castoldi managed to create a jazzy vibe with spaceous sounds and keyboard jams, all coalescing into a relaxing atmosphere that would eventually become the signature sound of 90's deep house.In partnership with Castoldi, Kalahari Oyster Cult delivers the goods once again: 11 tracks from the X-Ray catalogue over a 3LP for your deejaying pleasure.

C Da Afro continues his prolific run through 2020 with another killer EP of disco edit goodness, and this time it's for the consistently excellent Cardiology label. No doubt you're already tuning in with high expectations about the calibre of party fodder on offer, and "Hustle" sets the tone pitch-perfect from the get-go. There's a fine balance between disco, boogie and house achieved here, whereas "Hold Up" takes a more purist disco approach (with Philly strings thrown in for good measure). I Like It" represents the strangest end of the genre as it was taking shape. With heavily processed vocals injecting some serious strangeness into the chirpy disco backdrop, it's the kind of track to turn heads without a doubt. "Twenty Seven" on the B-side is equally magical in its capturing of the era, with the more obvious surface elements underpinned by a truly intoxicating line in synth arpeggios. Once again Best comes up trumps refreshing the history of Italian music of all shapes and sizes.

Lagoon is the protagonist of the ninth release of the Spanish label Several Roots, a collective of national artists that aims to roll out native talent and of which they are co-founders together with other travelling companions. Alta Ley is formed by three original tracks and three remixes by Músculo!, Jackwasfaster and Adhesive. This EP is the third work by the Galician duo and the first vinyl release by Several Roots. Electronics that, far from being linked to any specific style, offers a musical variety that goes from downtempo to breaks, including space disco or IDM.

Celebrating 30 years in the game for Z Records with a series of 12” vinyl EP’s containing some of the most sought-after remixes from the esteemed Z back catalogue. Part 1 sees highly desired cuts from Joey Negro, The Sunburst Band, Patrice Rushden, Akabu, Andre Lodemann, Hot Toddy, Sean McCabe and Atjazz.

First up, Joey Negro’s incredible Extended Disco Mix of Patrice Rushen - Haven't You Heard, housed on the ‘Remixed With Love By Joey Negro (Part A)’ EP currently only attainable if you’re willing to part with £100+. Andre Lodemann’s remix of Akabu - Another World takes the second spot, a jazzy, synth laden house groover from the 2010 Summer Sampler EP that goes for up to £40 on the second-hand market.

On the flip side, Crazy P’s Hot Toddy provides the goods with a driving, funk remix of The Sunburst Band - Taste The Groove. RNT takes a trip south with some fresh modern takes on a pair of Colombian tropicalia classics from the 1970s! Sisters Elia and Elizabeth Fleta recorded some of the most beloved rare groove from Baranquilla’s early-70s period, and when Jaime Tuiran (Vagabundo Club Social) brought the project to label owners Aaron Dae and JKriv, they jumped at the opportunity to work with such rarefied source material.

On the A side, the mysterious newcomer producer Demi Riquisimo crafts a synth-laden tropical opus of a remix of Elia y Elizabeth’s signature hit 'Alegria' and the ever solid Parisian Yuksek works the tune into a concise and mid tempo disco stomper.

On the flip, Bostonian-come-Colombian BOSQ turns 'Soy Una Nube' into an uptempo soul banger, and Baranquilla natives Vagabundo Club Social lend their homegrown organic and clubby style to their mix of 'Alegria' The perfect blend of earthy OG soul with modern and musical production, this record is as colorful and vibrant as the streets of Baranquilla during Carnaval. And RNT is throwing in a 7Inch with solid new masters of the original songs on heavyweight wax, to boot!

Reissued from the Spanish version of this awesome Cuban records with a unique picture cover. Probably one of the best 70's Areito releases, for sure ahead of his times. The entire record minus two tracks of 10 total are all upbeat with afro-latin breaks, dope choral vocal arrangements and chunky bass and conga lines, but don t sleep, the lower bpm songs are great mellow gems. B2 Recordings delivers its fifth release this April, entitled ‘Players Paradise’ and coming courtesy of Greek producer Lex. Athens, Greece based producer and DJ Alex Andrikopoulos aka Lex has been a key figure in the city's underground electronic music scene, founding the now defunct Radical Soundz record store, running numerous events in the country and also the imprint Quantinzed Music. Here we see him deliver his latest work under his Lex guise via Bengoa's hi-rising B2 Recordings. Title-cut ‘Players Paradise’ leads, a ten minute journey through popping organic percussion, snaking funk-infused bass lines and an amalgamation of bright piano chords, wandering resonant leads and cinematic strings. Following is ‘Just Realised’, embracing a similarly organic aesthetic via swinging natural drums, a walking jazz-tinged bass line and intricately intertwined, keys, strings and synth licks throughout. ‘In Your Eyes I Never Tried’ then rounds things out, stripping things back rhythmically to shuffled, off-kilter drums while sharp piano melodies, bright strings, vocal chants and choppy sub bass notes wander amongst the bumpy groove.

Rhode & Brown are back on their home label Toy Tonics where they have been almost from day one and released several EPs. The last one: “Mary’s Tool” in 2017.
This new record contains their first vocal feature ever. A brilliant house tune with vocals by german soul singer Adriano Prestel. On the A-Side they show their love for classic NY house vibes. Sax and pianos all over! All tracks basically made on the MPC and their Juno 106. On the flip you’ll find a full-on disco banger, backed with a beautiful understated sample house tune!

Since the boys cutted short their day jobs they finally started spending more time in the studio and are more creative than ever. In fact it's not long ago that they also released an EP on Swedish finest Honey Butter Records and their own label Slam City Jams.

The dudes have strong ties to Toy Tonics! Not only because one of them (Friedrich) had been working at the the label’s office for a certain time, but also because they are regular main acts on the now currently happening TOY TONICS JAMS around Europe. Where, along with Kapote, COEO and other TT artists they show their wide range of DJ skills and knowledge of dance music culture. Not being limited to house music, but going from early 70s funk and 80s underground wave stuff to the finest house sound from the 90s till now. The guys from Germany have a thing for collecting records from all around the world and make nice edits, too ).

Hailing from the Sicilian region of Palermo in Italy,
Emanuele Macagnone aka Manuold has steadily built a
name for himself via releases on Kerri Chandler’s Madhouse, DJ Steaw’s House Puff and Esuoh amongst others.

Leng Records has long had close ties with the underground music scene in San Francisco, with low-slung dub disco and psychedelic disco outfit 40 Thieves releasing their acclaimed album The Sky Is Yours on the imprint way back in 2014. Now Leng has turned to another stalwart of the Bay Area scene, Cole Odin, on a single that’s every bit as trippy and engrossing as you’d expect from one of San Francisco’s most frequently overlooked talents. Cole made his Leng debut earlier in the year, contributing the electro-influenced track ‘Numbers Game’ to the label’s 10th anniversary compilation. On ‘Little Boxes’, he’s joined by good friend Eddie C, a much-loved disco and house producer from Canada best known for his releases on Endless Flight and Red Motorbike. The pair recorded the track while Eddie was staying with Cole in San Francisco last year.



In keeping with the low-slung, hallucinatory sound that has always been a big feature of the San Franciscan scene, ‘Little Boxes’ is a trippy, mind-altering affair in which waves of sitar sounds, cosmic synths, effects-laden guitars and kaleidoscopic electronics rise above a weighty punk-funk bassline and crunchy, snare-heavy beats. It has serious dancefloor chops but is also atmospheric and immersive: perfect 5am music for Bay Area beach parties and mushrooms-fuelled forest raves.



Fittingly, it’s 40 Thieves who provide the accompanying remix, a 10-minute epic created with the assistance of Adonis and Rodney from the psych rock band ‘Guavatron’ for additional synths and the guitars. Beginning with tabla-style percussion, swirling chords, psychedelic guitar licks and mystical sitar sounds, the remix builds in waves, with looser drums and even weightier bass propelling the track forwards at a metronomic and hypnotic pace. By the time the eyes-closed guitar solos drop two thirds of the way through, you’ll be tripping hard and reaching for the lasers. It’s a genuinely stunning remix of a genuinely intoxicating, mind-mangling track.

On the flip side, a classy slice of Philly disco, Reflexed without the rather dated and cheesy Linda Clifford song, focusing on the killer grooves and morphing it into a horn / guitar riff laden track, hands in the air style!

Soulful house legend Timmy Regisford brings his trademark sound to DJ Spen & Thommy Davis' Quantize Recordings.

'Falling In Love' is a sumptuously sizzling heater, marrying Regisford's classic soul-laden production with Tiger Wilson's sensuous vocals. It's a combination that will ease any pains, calm any worries and bring a smile to the face, bottling up that sunshine feeling for those darker days when a little lift is needed.

Timmy then offers up three mixes to bring a real versatility to the e.p. First up, the 'Instrumental Mix' that lets Regisford's bumping bass, jazzed up piano, swelling strings and spiritual keys do the talking. Secondly, the 'Alternative Vocal Mix' switches the percussion of the original opting for more congas, shakers and bongos whilst leaving the claps at bay to give a deeper interpretation of the original. The final mix then drops the vocals of this alternate version completing what is a standout e.p. from Timmy Regisford that captures the essence of 2018's summer of love.

Szymek Lawik and Maritn Lefteri’s regular party and NTS show, Feel the Drive, turns record label with a debut release that takes you through the gears.

Spending their lives digging up the very best Italo, New Beat and EBM delights, a record label was the next logical move for Szymek Lawik and Martin Lefteri. The perfect distillation of their combined tastes and determination to search the globe for new music, the four-track debut EP features big hitters from Franz Scala (Bahnsteig 23, Tusk Wax, Cocktail d'Amore), Anatolian Weapons (Beats in Space, Dark Entries), Furor Exotica (Bordello a Parigi, Sprechen) and the label bosses themselves under their Ondata guise (Red Laser, Night Noise Music).

First up is Franz Scala, with “Sabrina”. A pulsing, new beat thrum bolts out of the gate, setting the pace with heads-down conviction. This straight-ahead velocity soon leans into guitar licks and Italo horn stabs and, before you know it, you’re transported - hugging the curves and corners along with the motorik rhythm.

Next, we shift down a gear and head east for “Ela” as Anatolian Weapons lights up the skies with a slow-burning intensity delivered with complete conviction. Exotic synth melodies, impossibly dextrous string playing and rolling acid lines carve out a unique path through the terrain, leaving no choice but to follow in its slipstream.

Argentinian duo Furor Exotica pick up the pace with “Fat Training”, an arpeggio-supercharged dancer guaranteed to lift the spirits and recharge the batteries come 3am. This is a track that carries its momentum up front and its boogie in the back. There’s a nod to the old new beats, but with wide eyes facing resolutely forward.

And then it’s time for the last lap. “Kolossos” is an apt moniker for this no-nonsense, heads-down, full-force monster. It’s a neon-lit tunnel late at night – unfamiliar, alien light throwing repetitive, yet slowly shifting shapes against sheer walls as you move through. “It’s not as bad for humankind to be dominated by me than to be dominated by others of your species” a voice intones as we reach our destination.

It’s metal machine music to save us from ourselves.

The Series continues and this time Anton Scruscru comes to us with his friend Sergey Timoshenko and incredibly brilliant tracks filled with warm and jazzy vibes. Flip the record over and you are hiding in the shadows with Common Mode and Flabaire, whose tracks take us far away on their waves. Enjoy!

York Pennsylvania born and raised, R&B vocalist Carman Bryant has performed throughout the U.S. and all over the world. There’s a saying in the Harrisburg/York Pa.area “If you want a seat, you better get there early” for a performance by Carman and her band.
Carman's recording "Midnight Star” is an unreleased recording that was produced many years ago by Cecil DuValle of the Teddy Pendergrass band. The original studio masters were lost when Cecil moved to England because Teddy Pendergrass stopped performing. "Take a Chance" is a duet by Doug Payne and Carman from the same recording sessions at Alpha International Studios that was located in South Philadelphia. This was during the time that Doug Payne was on the "We are Family" tour with Philly recording group "Sister Sledge''. Doug Payne is a graduate of Howard University Washington D.C., and Fiorello LaGuardia High School of Music & Art in New York City, this is the same school that was used for the movie and television series "FAME" starring Debbie Allen and Irene Cara. Doug had two songs signed with TSOP Gamble & Huff's publishing that were selected to be recorded by Phyliss Hyman before her death. In 1981 Doug Payne started his own label in Philadelphia with the release of "HOLIDAY" by Doug Payne & Polygon.
Carman and her son Terrell Bryant aka Nakuu both have been busy lately
recording new music to hit the scene around the same time.Terrell Bryant is
the son of Jason Bryant who started The SOS Band.
Doug's wife June Payne is a former member of Philadelphia recording group The "Three Degrees".

The A side really is one for the connoisseur collector, lovers of rare groove soul and 2 step. With Mrs Roz Ryans vocals always being strong and on point. Accompanied with the class or ex Motown producers and legends Mike Theodore and Dennis Coffey. The B side is a real funky little disco plodder but what sets this out from all the rest is the amazing breakdown which we have highlighted in the attached clip.

Welcome to the 2nd release in the Roz Ryan studio reel discovery from 1980. Produced by the mighty Mike Theodore and Dennis Coffey their production skills and arrangements never fail to deliver, and they always throw in a breakdown to keep it funky. Roz Ryan is a household name within the u.s and had some great success in the uk with her hit on Mirage records entitled "Boy where have you been".On the A side we have just a wonderful 2 step song called 'Life after love" which is sure to hit a note with those rare groove London collectors. Flip it over for "Sky high" a nice float along disco number, but what makes this track stand out is the huge breakdown in their middle section. One for the beat makers.

LIMITED EDITION Record Store Day 7" release

After releasing the ‘High Life' remixes just before summer and their more electronic EP on Aus Music, it’s time to get label heads Detroit Swindle back on Heist. They come in with full force, delivering a set of Swindle styled house tracks, accompanied by a jazzy remix by Volcov in his Isoul8 moniker with guest appearances by Kaidi Tatham on keys and Nigel Bennett on vocals.

The EP kicks off with ‘The life behind things’; a life affirming soulful house tune that’s cleverly built around a set of switching organ stabs. The energy in this track keeps on building with the filter slowly opening up while live percussion oozes its way through the track (courtesy of Mauskovic Dance Band member Chris Bruining). After a well working surprise acid break, the track breaks down into a jazzy organ solo by Byron the Aquarius, building up momentum till the full track comes back in for a ecstatic delivery of feel-good dancefloor emotions.

The second original of this ep is Detroit Swindle’s view on what a party-starting piano house track should sound like with ‘Music for clubs’. This track is all about rolling drums, lush piano stabs and possibly the funkiest baseline in four-to-the-floor house music. The latter two are made possible by the quick finger work of their live show collaborator and close friend Lorenz Rhode.

The full B side goes to Volcov’s remix of “The life behind things”. He takes his inspiration from the energy of the original and chooses to set a steady groove where the lush key work of Kaidi Tatham shines both on the chords and a muscle-flexing organ solo. The vocal sample from the original is accompanied by some great ad-libs by Nigel Bennett. With these elements working together in perfect harmony, you can practically feel the good vibes these 3 friends had when recording the remix.

It’s been on our to-do list for a while to record a full-on house record, and we hope this one does the trick for you as much as it does for us.

we’d like you to meet Moony Me! The man probably doesn’t
need much of an introduction, but he took some time off the
game so we’re even happier he’s honoring us with his
comeback EP. And what a glorious one it is! When we first
heard the title we immediately thought about all the beauty
and honesty of the electronic music world…Fancy promo texts,
fake third person bios, deep’n’dark artist pics and kids
standing in the front at boiler room. In a healthy way,
“Pretentiously Unpretentious” leaves a lot of that stuff behind
(fancy promo text LOL) and instead offers a package that has
MUSIC written all over it. There’s not a single track on this
record that takes itself too seriously, you’ll always find quirky

Latitude is sprung out of the wicked musicianship of Parisian jazz-funk and fusion mavericks and Saint-James tight and adventurous compositions and production. All that jazz combined with David Cukier (Greita) retro-futurist engineering skills in these intense sessions captured in his cutting edge vintage Delta studio.

On A Side, "Leo (Extended Mix)" is an uptempo disco track for the dancers but also a beautiful song for the summer. A seductive number with a pregnant classic French jazz-funk feeling with the help of Parisian singer Club Celest’s energy and beautiful voice. It comes on digital as a short edit for radio but as a serious extended 12inch mix on the vinyl with 8 minutes and 10 seconds of pure pleasure, ending in a real climax after an irresistible percussion break.

Two fantastic deep jazzy house tracks by the Chicago Master Ron Trent

In the early 80s Japan was in a flourishing bubble, becoming the world’s second-largest economy, threatening to overtake the West with its cutting-edge innovation. Middle class Japanese citizens indulged in luxury clothes, imported wine, and international travel, enjoying unorthodox freedom. City pop emerged as the soundtrack to this cosmopolitan lifestyle: an ode to bright colours, sunny beaches and naive romances, with a clear West influence. Such influence also brought together the first health and fitness wave to Japan: for the first time, taking care of oneself was trendy, and Aerobic, the word in everybody’s mouth.

Hyped by the momentum, both the Aerobic Fitness Association (A.F.A. U.S.A, still running) and the Nippon Aerobic Association put together a program to help audiences follow Aerobic classes on channel TBS. Not surprisingly they hired one of the most inspired young talents of the Era, the guitarist Yuji Toriyama (now well known as one of the fathers of Japanese fusion), to perform, together with Ken Morimura (keyboardist for the salsa band Orquesta Del Sol) a series of tracks that could help the viewers keep their body moving.

As surprisingly as it seems, that fusion of killer boogie guitars and synths with kitsch aesthetics was made for exercising. Aerobics is a soundtrack made up of boogie beats that span the genres of funk, technopop and even City Pop with the purpose of getting folks off their heinies and moving around rhythmically. As this album plays fully instrumental, Toriyama’s rhythms and glossy arrangements melt together perfectly with uplifting synths and programmed drums to give birth to a distinguible cheerful atmosphere. An Aerobic Jam.

A refreshing and vibrating experience from beginning to end to kick off the summer in perfect shape.

Some slamming 1978 Disco HEAT from the Salsoul stable! 'Pass The Buck' is a very popular LP cut from the group's sole long player 'Law & Order', naturally any Tom Moulton mix from that period is well worth your ears and your time if you consider yourself a Disco lover, the man's hands were all over a ton of classics and he had the magic touch for real. 'Pass The Buck' has all the hallmarks of the bombastic 'Philly Sound', arranged by the legendary Ron 'Have mercy' Kersey and his team and mixed by Moulton, this blast of FUNK opens side B of said long player. Mysteriously never released as a 12", this is one TM mix that really benefits from a nice loud pressing as it is presented here on this special RSD 19 12" reissue. That's not all, throw in a super, extended, cosmically overdubbed and tweaked re-edit from NYC's master of such disciplines - Joe Claussell - and we're talking some serious business, right Well, that's what you get on this special limited release, the full 9+ minutes of Joe's very special reinterpretation, this one's all killer and no filler. Parisian label Chuwanaga proudly presents the first opus of its new 12inch series, starting with the brand new EP of Koji Ono: Ricochet / Maloja Pass. Recorded during a short week-end in Paris, it is the result of a true collaboration by a team of musicians who wanted to bring a modern twist to a classic and timeless sound, staying true to the original late seventies/early eigthies dance music spirit and the passion of Chuwanaga for the original Britfunk.
On bass, you’ll hear Lester Batchelor aka LB from Atmosfear, the legendary British JazzFunk band best known for their En Transe LP and the classic track « Dancing In Outerspace». Killing it on the drums, Roy Mistry is their 2020 official drummer. Recording together in Studio Delta, with Koji playing almost all the other instruments, from keys to guitars to percussions, they all had a blast collaborating on these two new tracks. Add a blazing Rhodes solo by Jean-Michel Bernard on « Maloja Pass », some precious magic from producers Seiji Ono & Saint-James, a great dose of savoir-faire by sound engineer David Cukier aka Greita (Disques Flegon)… And you end up with two killer tunes ready to blast their way through your speakers.
On both tracks, you’ll immediately recognize Koji Ono’s touch – as found on his previous Incognito EP : simple but uplifting melodies on synthetizers, sparkling guitars and a certain playfulness in the arrangements. On side A, « Ricochet » sounds like an irresistible mid-tempo boogie banger. On B side, the uptempo « Maloja Pass » is faster paced and bursts with energy, giving the listener an irresistible urge to travel endlessly through the night.

Salford '95: a rave devotee with a penchant for Air Max cops an MPC1000Â off the back of a lorry & a cheeky lend of a Korg MS-20 from a local sputnik huffer, feverishly setting to work with a battered pile of hardcore breaks and mad love for the dancefloor. A bunch of explosive warehouse cuts are rapidly thrown down before he switches off his machines and heads off down Bowlers for the usual weekend pleasantries. Returning many days later and trounced off a wild combo of mitsis and brown acid, DJ AB is devastated to learn that a crew of lads from Hyde have ransacked his bedsit scrounging for his last ten bag - leaving the recently recorded DAT nowhere to be seen.

Thought to be lost this whole time, Red Laser CEO, Il Bosco (and distant Absolutely Shit family cuz) was 'unbelievably buzzing' and 'jizzing in my pants' upon happening across the item at one of his frequent car boot forays prompting a huge celebration down here at RLR HQ when we realized we'd finally be able to let the public in on this subversive aural gold from one of the scene's most elusive heads.

A super limited white label EP containing 2 dancefloor bombs and a couple weirdo tracks were pressed and hawked in record time back in 2017, and now change hands for top dosh. At the time of writing there's only 1 for sale in the shark pool (discogs init) for a whopping £500 and has got a jizz stain and 'shane is a ball bag' written on it. Almost like someone (possibly DJ Ab Shit himself after hacking into a mates account) is taking the mick here, crossing their fingers for a Japanese investment banker with infinite yen to pull the trigger only to be sent a jizz stain and no record via recorded delivery for an extra £38 postage...Henkin nashi (no refunds) g...

Anyway, for the second instalment from DJ Absolutely Shit and his first 'proper' release, Il Bosco (operating strictly within the original blueprints) has revisited these epochal rave musings and, alongside some help from extended Red Laser fam has tweaked em for modern playage.

1) A Night At Shelley's Laserdome (20.2k remaster)
First released on that white label teaser, now the stuff of nightclub folklore; the original DJ Ab mega-anthem is given a proper release and kicks off the EP; destroying the discogs market value of the white label whilst delivering a bona fide and timeless slice of dance music history to those that need fulfilment. If you missed it first time round, expect rushing vox, tingly melodies and pure ruffage breaks. It's been touched up for maximum grunt too...Tidy!

2) Return To Shelley's (Metrodome, Il Bosco and Begin XR2 M6 mission)
RL Cru on the remix tip! In house mastering specialist, LVLs beatmaker and probably the most underrated producer in the universe, Metrodome joins old guard rukus maker, Begin aka James Holroyd and gets frisky after some warm tins and slack zoots in Bosco's studio. Conjuring up a focussed remix that cracks and thuds HARD we like this new version as much as the OG. Two pharaohs please Dudderz - sharpish! 3) Cut Those Tory's Down To Nowt
Lauded for causing the infamous White hotel 'flasher' to vacate his crow's nest and hit the dancefloor unabashed, it's hard to ignore that rugged bassline and those gliding synth stabs. Throw in some proper b-boy biznis like live scratches and vocodered vox and it's a veritable tapestry of warehouse music wondertropes tha'll find mass appeal at large late nite gatherings...

4) Bang Into Breakbeach
Sourced from a crusted minidisc and dated sometime around 2003, a track for the smokers and the after party. A chilled instrumental laced with seductive horns and a baggy break, it harks back to that original Grand Central sound and proudly dons its favourite pair of Nikes for the occasion. Head nodding goodness from beginning to end and a beat so catchy fuckin' Jay-Z's queuing up to drop a verse or two on it...


Only recently dipping out of the wilderness to allegedly and briefly appear at the legendary Pomona Island raves bellowing his infamous catchphrase 'INABITEVERYONEELSE' over the mic, DJ Absolutely Shit's whereabouts remain a bit of a mystery with even Il Bosco 'not being able to get hold of the turd'. Spray canned graffiti throughout the city centre suggests that he's still active. That or a load of NOS-quaffing, snap-mapping yoot have gotten onto the myth and have been mimicking his tags in town for a buzz. Who knows...Perhaps news of the Red Laser crew creaming the coin offa the top of his crusty old DAT tapes will coax him back into the fold...he probably couldn't be arsed though...
