Limited reissue of this incredible and highly sought-after futuristic 12' from 1981. Released on West African Music, a tiny label from the Ivory Coast, and finding a spiritual home on the Italian eclectic cosmic scene, both tracks on this 12' are brilliantly innovative and exhibit a minimal techno-esque aesthetic way ahead of their time.
Side A's Closer is a chugging sinuous flow punctuated by jerking monotone vocals, horn stabs and synth arpeggios with a strong dancefloor sensibility. Flip over for stunningly weird electronic percussion workout Tam Tam - a crazed sparse soundscape of strange falsetto tribal chants, funky hand claps and drums, synth wobbles, spasms and tweaks. Mystery surrounds the identity of the elusive artist Codek but evidence points to it being an offshoot project of French New Wave producer John Marieux. Essential!

Originally out on the impossible-to-find 'Bomp' album in 1980 (I.G.'s one and only release sadly), these cuts are top-class examples of early Nigerian boogie, both heavy ass-shaking floorfillers boasting some phenomenal funky guitar work and ultra-groovy bass. First up is the awesome collectors' favourite 'Disco Power' while on the flip we have the equally desirable funk monster 'Funk Ina Ghetto'. Totally brilliant - don't miss!

Reissue of the original Swedish Moon Shine records 12' release of the superb and hugely in-demand slo-mo disco monster 'Stars And Bars'. Originally released back 1981 and now changing hands for big money, this low slung gem is a must-have for any lovers of quality leftfield disco vibes with its phat b-line, great vocals, killer funky synths and a wicked chugging groove sure to ignite any dancefloor/beach party. A big favourite of DJs like Harvey, Rug & Tug & Mark Seven. Superb!

In 2011 when Mad Mats and Tooli went to Sonar Festival in Barcelona they met Ludovic Llorca aka Art Of Tones outside a club.
Little did they know back then that two years later on they would release a 12' together.

The Same Thing EP opens with the title track and kicks pretty damn sweet with it's strong vocal, the guitar, bass and rhodes jamming on top of a tight groove, there's also a dub version included on the b-side.
Last but not least, The Great Sgatmi is a jazzy and bumpy house take with lot's of samples perfectly balanced.

All in all, classic Art Of Tones material and the work of a producer firing on all cylinders.

The Fx Mchn has unplugged itself from the London Housing Trust offices just long enough to run off these three documents for Narrow Gauge.

'Art 2 Mouse' starts with a gritty, little drum box punching way above its weight before the heavy machinery rolls in for reinforcement.
'Mono Life' slows the tempo with a close-up shot of the intricate interlocking cogs of an Fx Mchn track.

On the flip side we move to a wider-screen format for a helicopter ride over the oil-drum beats and tribal chants of 'No Place To Go'.

The ever-so mysterious producer Tommy Rawson digs deep into the crates and comes up with two quality reworks for Gold Fingers.

Combining warm and soulful vibes with a house touch 'Peculiar' is a real thing of beauty. On the flip Tommy presents 'The Kids', a track with a somewhat more folky approach and with it's perfectly placed strings amping up the drama.

Und hier kommt Jacob Dilßner - 24, Student, Berliner. Irgendwann fing er mit dem DJing an, und dann nahm er einen Song auf, der von sich reden machte, "One Day / Reckoning Song". Es geht natürlich um Wankelmut. Dieses Phänomen, das scheinbar über Nacht vom Underground in den Overground schoss und völlig überraschend die komplette Musikszene im Sturm eroberte. Mit einem einzigen Track, ohne Label und ohne Promotion - ein Beweis dafür, dass Musik durchaus für sich selbst sprechen kann. Sein Track ist in acht europäischen Ländern quer über beinahe alle erdenklichen Charts auf Platz 1 gegangen und belegt die oberen Ränge in zahllosen Downloadportalen (u.a. in den Beatport-, iTunes- und den offiziellen Charts) - das ist ein erstaunlicher Erfolg, den es so noch nicht gegeben hat und der einen Meilenstein in der Geschichte der Dance Music setzt. In der Folge musste sich der 24-jährige Gedanken machen, wie es weiter gehen soll, mal ganz abgesehen von den sich pausenlos aneinanderreihenden DJ-Gigs in ganz Europa. Stacy Kidd Pevet Everett back to Minuendo after "Los Dedos Cortados" in another record, now is a special 10" with two fabulous vocal tracks and special collaboration for another Chicago house legendary Maurice Joshua.

Great chance to get your hands on three of rock legend Chicago's most dance-friendly moments loud-pressed on one slab of 12' vinyl. Starts with the highly-desired special Columbia promo-only disco version of the 1979 classic 'Street Player', a magnificent funky disco cut spun by discerning DJs such as Harvey and Derrick Carter and made famous again when Kenny Dope sampled it to great effect for his Bucketheads' hit 'The Bomb'. A high school teacher by day, father of three and deeply passionate music devotee, there's an undeniable sense that Fabrice Lig was cut from a different cloth than most.

The Belgian artist, also releasing music under the Soul Designer moniker is responsible for the classic 'Walking On A Little Cloud' album on Laurent Garnier F Communications, as well as a slew of pivotal Detroit-influenced cuts on labels such as KMS and 7th City Records that captured the essence of the iconic hotspot's spirit while retaining Lig's trademark free-flowing funk.

For his debut full length on Planet E, the dexterous producer has crafted an album of contrasts that gleefully scribbles outside the lines for an otherworldly 12-track trip of galactic proportions that mines inspiration from everyone from Todd Terje to Marvin Gaye and Quincy Jones, while retaining an undeniable thread to the Motor City.

Launching with the steely tension-filled 'Born To Be Wise' that sounds somewhat akin to the opening musical score of a Bond film, if said flick was set on Mars, the tempo is soon set to disco via the ultra smooth vocal injection from Hard Ton on 'Celestial Love Rising'.

There's a heavy hint of a future house classic when Lig teams up with lauded vocalist and former Octave One collaborator Ann Saunderson for 'No Judgment' that's already been generating serious heat since being released as a single recently. The masterful 'Oostende Blues' is the Belgian's own masterful tribute to his hero Gaye spanning energetic tech funk that gradually tempers to reveal more tender melodic tones. In a highlight heavy album, the work is fittingly rounded out by the Terje-inspired 'Superstring Theory' that mixes up disco, funk and '90s rave vibes all executed with astounding compositional skill - no mean feat from an artist who's never had a music lesson in his life.

Part-time tram driver and full-time disco disciple, Helsinki's Jaakko Eino Kalevi catalyzses street smart funk into heat stroke for Yin Yang Theatre, his new EP on Beats In Space Records.

The title of Yin Yang Theatre came to Kalevi as an epiphany while dining in Washington Heights on a stateside holiday.
"I was feeling bad about something and I thought that speaking out would be the solution. Almost immediately, I realized that confrontation is not the solution for every situation. The right balance is a combination of both: confrontation and patience. Yin Yang Theatre as a metaphor of life"

While Jaakko's enlightened metaphor guides the six songs of Yin Yang Theatre, it does not sequester their inspiration to separate sides of the platter. Instead, the inspiration bakes a perfect pie using the tracks' irreverent and irresistibly bohemian ingredients.

Following the metaphor manifestation of 'Speak Out', Ying Yang Theatre's second act is 'Pass the Cat', a step-by-step instruction manual for a midnight hour game made up on a late night during another one of Kalevi's many NYC visits (think Hot Potato gone feline). Before intermission, 'Sensaatio', a love song sung in Jaakko's native tongue, invokes the heel tripping effect of love at first sight.

The undulating analog ode to Greece of 'Tecno Souvlaki' and 'Let the Energy Be Your Teacher (Part 1)' explore even softer rocking inflections of Jaakko's work at the top of side B before 'XO-Tic Grlz', a percussive deconstruction of 'Pass the Cat', quickens the EP from an introspective to extroverted finale.

Each 12" on Beats in Space Records features original artwork in considerate and serial form. Hiroaki Koshiba, a frequent collaborator who paints during Jaakko's live performances, composed Yin Yang Theatre's artwork in similar practice. The 12" packaging constructed by Will Work For Good features a removable vinyl BIS logo cling.

Following the incredibly well received Record Store Day release of Donna McGhee's Make It Last Forever, Groove Line Records continue with another Patrick Adams & Greg Carmichael produced classic, Lady Bug, by BUMBLEBEE UNLIMITED, the second in our series of 12' audiophile reissues from the Disco underground.

BUMBLEBEE UNLIMITED was a studio disco project from Adams and Carmichael, and along with their work with groups like Universal Robot Band and Inner Life, is credited for pushing the boundaries of dance music production. Their 1978 classic single Lady Bug was taken from the groups only album, Sting Like A Bee.

Side A is the Disco Mix by John Morales and Frank Trimarco. A solid kick opens the track before Morales's trademark percussion is introduced. Then the slick bass, guitar and piano groove play alongside the innovative synth lines and drive the rhythm forward, before the addition of that simple but engaging single note piano groove... the core element of the track, and the synthesized vocal between the Lady Bug in question and the bee who's chasing her. At approximately 6m30 there is an extended build-up where each element returns before the fade.

Side B features the Disco Remix by the legendary Larry Levan. Starting with the full drums and percussion Levan adds each element at an earlier stage than the Disco Mix, so the full track, including the vocal, hits you at just over a minute and doesn't let go until the fade, giving a more intense dance floor experience.

The B-side is a nice rework by Roger Thornhill of the instantly funky "Dancing" by the Tru Tones. This is an exclusive edit that won't be on the Tropical Disco Hustle 2 compilation. Both tracks are a great preview of what's to come on the second instalment of Tropical Disco Hustle!

Yoruba Records is happy to welcome back label veterans Kiko Navarro and DJ Fudge with this tribal leaning surprise release. As the name BabaluAye (the praise name for the healer in the Orisha system) suggests, this package has taken on a diverse world music approach. The original mix opens with crystal clear vocals that compliment the wide array of live drums featured throughout. The mix comes into its own with the addition of atmospheric underlying keys and melodic guitar riffs. The club cut comes with a more pronounced, driving beat clearly meant for the floor and features well-crafted jazz-like piano lines sure to capture listeners in a trance. Le Soleil's mix uses a smooth bass line that takes charge of the track and is complimented by a rhythm guitar and a hint of ambient keys that add fullness and depth to this cut. Moyuba has provided us with a seamlessly crafted dub that edges on the border of tech house and is as club ready as they come. Finally, the Cosmic dub brings this release to a close with a slow, rolling bass line, drawn out atmospheric synths and well placed stabs that will keep the room moving into the early morning.

Quality reissue of the mega-rare Blow Up records release of the Italo masterpiece Pink Footpath by Loui$. Originally released in 1985, this gem has become one of the most h ighly sought after Italo Disco tracks around. On the A side is Magic Dance which is good, but it's the instrumental version of the track Pink Footpath that really gets the disco DJs drooling. With its killer analogue b-line, dreamy synths and Balearic guitar riffs, it's easy to see why it became such an anthem at the early Ibiza parties as well as a late night favourite in Chicago and New York. Highly recommended.

Gator Boots is back with two funky edits from beantown afro-latin aficionado Bosq. We've known him for years, but then he dropped one of our favorite albums of 2013 on Ubiquity Records and put his stamp on the new multi-culti sound that has been so influential to us. These two edits fit that mold and have been huge party jams in our sets for the last year. Look out for a full Soul Clap Records EP from Bosq in the future, but for now here's what he has to say about these two mega jams. "Fela edits are tough for me, as anyone who has listened to any of my tracks knows, the man is far and away the greatest influence to my music and to me most of his songs are nearly perfect. This hasn't stopped me from trying over and over - but it has stopped me from releasing them. I finally felt I had something that walked the line enough with this one and was honored when the homies Eli & Charlie asked to put it out on their Gatur Boots series. I think this track has that universal undeniable appeal that can work with just about any dance floor (and thats Fela's doing - I just gave him a little help for the modern sound systems and tried to really work that pacing). On the flip is another band that has influenced me greatly, Fatback! This was one of those edits that slowly started turning more into an original the further on I went, but I could never quite do without those vocals and that infectious bassline. It's always the most fun for me when I can actually add to the track musically and not just rearrange and beef it up, because that's when I feel like it's really becoming more unique and I'm contributing more than just tweaking the details. This one has got everything from rhodes to arp to organ, percussion, etc.

It's been a year since the first release of the successful Editor's Kutz series and the mysterious imprint hits back with its fourth installment, this time on a special 180 gram vinyl pressing. Love is the message coming hand-in-hand with this release and the package includes a quartet of sexy, chilling and sentimental contributions.
Starting things off with Whiskey Disco boss, Sleazy McQueen, who squeezes the best out of a little known gem since 1979. 'Let's Make Love Tonight' has all those disco-nutritious ingredients making it suitable for today's disco floors: fat baseline, soft strings, sexy female vocals and a nice spanking guitar, all resulting into an irresistible disco edit. Next there's a 'Love Massage' waiting for you. Couldn't expect less by 78Edits than another unmistakable, blue-sky disco cover. This time Mr Buchanan reworks the homonyms track since 1981, transforming it into a modern, mid-tempo and slippery groove, a perfect party starter.
Flip it for side B to find the successful Israeli keyboardist and producer Jean Claude Gavri joining his editing skills with VinylAddicted. Their combo retouch on a Larry's forgotten version is exactly what you need to get lifted: Disco rich in percussion, fully quantized, targeting on the guitar performance, while only the hottest vocal samples are used here, before the beat and guitars hit you again. Last but not least, the marvelous Balearic disco cover from the rookie Lillo Carillo on an Italian 70s ballad, will find you swaying in a crowded beach-bar with a cocktail in your hands, as the sun goes does.

Dancing with tears in your eyes on the remixes of 'Plastic Romance', one of the ace tracks off of 'What About The Magnetic Fields', Space Ranger's debut album on Lovemonk.

The German outfit returns with it fourth single on Lovemonk, the wonderful 'Plastic Romance' featuring the chilly vocals of Captn K, who can also be heard on previous single 'Nightmoves'. Bonar Bradberry throws some beef on the barbie and turns the slo-mo disco original into a ultra-funky dancefloor stormer, while the fabulous Rimshooters, a.k.a. Massimiliano Pagliara and Rotciv, speed it up and take it back to the eighties.

Motorcity Drum Ensemble shift into fifth gear as well and undress the tune while they're at it, leaving Captn K sounding even chillier. Groove Attack & Innervisions hero Marcus Worgull liked the MCDE remix so much, he decided to do his own edit of it. A fabulous package if ever there was one.

Space Ranger come from the stars. The trio based in Stuttgart has a wide experience and an unlimited love for music. In their previous disguises, among which Dublex Inc, they have done remixes for the likes of Kool and The Gang, Sugababes or Kurtis Blow, but now they are absolutely focused on this project, brewing disco and house for today's dance floors from samples taken from their huge record collections. Knowledge is power and space is the place.

Since 2007, when Txarly Brown (DJ and collector) started his Achilifunk project, spanish gipsy danceable sounds have returned to the front pages of music magazines. After two compilation albums "Achilifunk, Gipsy Soul 1969-1979", "Más Achilifunk, Gipsy Soul from the 21st Century", Txarly founded the Banda Achilifunk (a big band with 17 musicians on stage) and released the album "Gitano Real". Two years later he published the book "Achilibook" and now he has finally launched its pilot project: the Achilifunk Sound System. A small combo which brings together the best spanish gipsy funk performers to recreate a repertoire of classic sounds mixing flamenco rumba with hip hop, funk, dubstep, house, disco, ska, reggae... From the tropics comes Whiskey Disco, a sneaky re-edit label bent on dredging the decanter for diffident dancefloor genius from
latent disco perpetrators. It's loosely connected to Sleazy McQueen and his assorted cohorts.
Hotel Victoria is the debut ep from two talented editors from Poland, Holiday 80. Holiday 80 inherited a massive collection of wax at a very early age, inciting a deep and lifelong respect for vinyl and the dark grooves. This instilled a profound love not-to-be-contained by a single genre. Each song on this palette reflects that diversity and spectrum. From the smooth intro on Kto dal nam deszcz with its easy groove to the boogie-blaze of Bez tego i owego. The rolling synth bass and sizzling strings of Zabawa w stylu folk are at once dark and light in a tense contrast. As comfortable on the B2 as in the basement, we hear the acidic melodies of Teleniedziela.

The Array is back for the sixth time once again offering disco and electro from every end of the spectrum. Be prepared to another cosmic journey with an impressive line up of Nang's artists, from the cosmic to late night nu disco and full on 80s influenced Italo.

Opening the compilation is Poseidon by Disco Doubles: a real retro electro track featuring some 80s style rapping. If Italo is your thing Venice Beach's You Can't Stop Me sounds like classic Madonna singing on a Kano track, and Tonbe's So Fresh is another feel good, summery song. The Ilya Santana Italo Romance Remix of Proper Heat's I Believe In Love takes the sound to a more contemplative place. The smooth-voiced featured artist Tiara graces Audio Luxury's Every Kiss and creates a stand out piece of R'n'B tinged disco pop.

Singer/songwriter/pop culture icon and 2013 Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame inductee DONNA SUMMER rocketed to international superstardom in the mid-1970s, when her groundbreaking merger of R&B, soul, pop, funk, rock, disco and avant-garde electronica catapulted underground dance music out of the clubs of Europe to the pinnacle of sales and radio charts around the world. On October 21st, Verve Records will release LOVE TO LOVE YOU DONNA, a remix record celebrating her life and voice. The LP will be released October 28th.

Highlights from LOVE TO LOVE YOU DONNA include the legendary producer Giorgio Moroder's entirely re-imagined version of "Love to Love You Baby," originally recorded in November of 1975; Afrojack's take on 'I Feel Love,' and indie electro artists Hot Chip's interpretation of 'Sunset People.' Also included are remixes of 'Hot Stuff' by Frankie Knuckles and Eric Kupper, Laidback Luke's remix of 'MacArthur Park,' Duke Dumont's remix of 'Dim The Lights' and more.

The next installment in the fantastic Balearica series featuring another stunning collection of eclectic rarities. First up is the superb 'Breakdown Mix' of World Premiere's 1983 classic 'Share The Night', a killer stripped-down boogie groove with a phat b-line and smooth synths, which for years has been a staple of Metro Area's DJ sets as well as being one of the standouts on their Fabric Mix and also featuring recently on DJ Harvey's mix for Beats In Space. 2 seriously hot remixes from Opolopo

You'd be forgiven for not knowing the newest addition to the slowly expanding Claremont 56
roster. You see, there's been no recorded output from German combo Bambi Davidson since
the release of their largely overlooked 'minimal post-rock' debut album, El Faco, in 2000.
Until now, that is.
Following the release of their debut set, founder members Robin van Velzen (guitar/vocals)
and Hans Christian Fuss (drums) became frustrated with their lot. Bored with 'rocking out' as
a two-piece, they decided to start inviting other musicians to join them on stage. That meant
that each performance was unique, with new tunes - often improvised on the spot - being
developed for, or at, every gig.
It's an approach that frequently paid dividends. One particular collaborative gig, with Frank Mollena (most famousfor his involvement with fellow German Balearisc rock outfit Mountaineer) and Sofia Fuss, went so well that both were asked to become permanent members of the band.
It was at this point that the newly expanded four-piece Bambi Davidson finally headed back into the studio to record a new album, some 15 years after they'd recorded their debut.
As you'd expect with a new line-up, things are a bit different this time round. Whereas El
Flaco was a stripped-back affair with most tracks featuring just guitar, drums and vocals,
Bambi Davidson features additional bass, electronics and keys provided by Frank and
Sophia. The result is an expansive but atmospheric album built around sensual, undulating grooves, gentle, sun-kissed melodies, lilting pedal steel and woozy, dub-influenced production.
Often magical and always immersive, the six tracks that make up Bambi Davidson are
delightfully contrary. While pleasingly accessible and capable of inducing broad smiles on the first listen, each carefully considered, drawn-out composition reveals more intricate layers on each listen. This is particularly true of 'Foxhunting' - reminiscent of fellow Claremont 56 act Bison

fused, buffed and polished. On the inside, Osmose has bottled pure disco fire with Broadway Kiss, a perfect party starter for any
warehouse with disco leanings. Flipping to the AA, seasoned jock, Derek Kaye has reworked Holding On and in the process landed it (and a few others!) in Greg Wilson's top edits of 2014 chart. By now, you must know that we're VERY fond of a bit of cheese in our whiskey... Rulefinn sidesteps the usual elements of La Bionda's I Got Your Number to focus on the slick guitar, while retaining the vocals until the end for optimal impact.
After listening to this ep, you'll feel like you've been kissed all over.

Greek duo Bonnie & Klein aka George & Thanasis have been
slowly making a name for themselves through a string of well
crafted releases on labels Music For Dreams, Timewarp and Uber.
Their style hasn't gone unnoticed by Ibizan legend Jose Padilla
who put their recent track 'Carina' on his latest compilation.
Bonnie & Klein are not only producers of the chillout sound as their debut for leng testifies. ´Singularity´ hits hard from the off with driving beats slowly building up with African sounding percussion until the flute comes in at the drop building it up to a slamming finale. A late night dancefloor classic in the making. ´Ergosphere´ sees them flip back to their laid back roots with a more classic chillout sound and tops off an excellent 12" for Leng.

When Sonar Kollektiv is presenting musical diggings you can be assured some real gems show up. And what a revelation is the Cosmic Disco by Venezuelan producer Daniel Grau! An elusive monographic showcase of his very productive creative period between 1978 and 1982 will be released as a double CD on the Berlin quality imprint later this year. Now, prior to the showcase compilation, a handful of selected remixes see the light of day - as a proof of how relevant Grau's music is still today. The opening of this firework is a real stunner on its own: One of the innovators of
Nu Disco, Daniel Wang himself, is returning after a brief sabbatical! Together with also Berlin based Jules Etienne (one half of Egyptian Nipples) Danny 'The Dancer' Wang takes two tracks of Daniel Grau's comprehensive
back catalogue to task. 'Robot Mágico' off the 1978 album 'El Sonido Magico De Daniel Grau' does sound in its reinterpretation by the two disco aficionados as if it was recorded just yesterday. In the same smooth and sophisticated way comes the renovation of 'Disco Fantasy' off the album of
the same name from 1979. Still, the Non Disco Remix somehow reminds of Wang's groundbreaking releases on Environ and is funky and catchy to such an extend that DJs probably would love to play it three times in a row. Well, the bar is set very high for the upcoming Daniel Grau remixes. But Sonar Kollektiv wouldn't be Sonar Kollektiv if you wouldn't already know
exactly that there are more hot irons in the fire.

Great 12' featuring two superb rarities from renowned disco label Sound Of New York. Run by legendary producer Peter Brown, this small Harlem-based imprint garnered a massive reputation in the late 70s and early 80s turning out some of the best disco tracks ever made. First up here is NY disco funk favourite 'Dance Freak' from Chain Reaction. Produced by Peter Brown himself, this is pure dancefloor dynamite, as raw and funky as it gets with pumping horns, grinding bass, wild percussion and crazy synths building steadily to a high-octane blistering dancefloor freakout! On the flip is the equally fantastic 'Shout At the Disco' from Little Scotty, another relentless rough grooving jam, also produced by the prolific Mr B. Next up is a little instrumental mid tempo disco funk affair, the guitar plays a big part in this track, along with a cosmic dreamy synth line, solid drums backed up with a strong bass line.

Smalltown Supersound is proud to announce that it is re-issuing the Holy Grail of Norwegian dance music, the first two albums by reclusive cult innovator from beyond the Arctic Circle Bjørn Torske.

With the Norwegian disco movement having given birth to many international dance stars, now is a perfect time to go back and re-evaluate these brilliant records, that provided the inspiration for a wave of producers in their wake. With all of Torske's album discography now with their natural home Smalltown Supersound, the label can finally feel complete.

Debut album 'Nedi Myra' was first released on UK label Ferox and his second album 'Trøbbel' originally came out on Telle Records. They have been out print for many years and have not been distributed on any digital streaming sites. Now lovingly re-mastered by Helmut Erler at Dubplates & Mastering, for the first time Bjørn feels that they sound as he intended them to sound.

Together with the late Tore 'Erot' Kroknes, Bjørn laid the foundation for the disco scene in Norway that gave birth to Prins Thomas, Lindstrom, Andre Bratten and Todd Terje. Inspired by DJ Harvey, Ron Hardy and Idjut Boys, Bjorn Torske and Erot brought underground disco and house/techno (Chicago/Detroit style) to the country, developing their very own style of tripped out dubby disco with their characteristic weird, humorous and psychedelic twists along the way. With Torske as with many auteurs, he hasn't always got the attention and credit he deserved. He is known for being reclusive, and an outsider, making music on his own terms and not playing by the rules of the record business. All of which has made him the musician's musician.

Torske's debut album under his own name was 'Nedi Myra' in 1998 on UK label Ferox. After that he released a string of singles with Svek label, among them the seminal 'Jeg vil være søppelmann'. That translates to 'I Want To Be A Binman' in English, which shows who set the tone for Norwegian disco's particular sense of humour. Also on Svek was the single 'Sexy Disco'; cited by Todd Terje as 'the first time I listened to disco in a non-ironic way'. "Trøbbel" was released in 2001 and in 2005 he signed to Smalltown Supersound and released the two 12' singles 'Kokt Kveite' and 'Ny lugg/Kort bak lang på siden' and the albums 'Feil Knapp' (2007) and 'Kokning' (2009). In 2010 he released 'Oppkok' 12' which was remixed by DJ Harvey and Todd Terje, and last year the 'Kok'

EP with additional material from the 'Kokning' album sessions.

Jason Kincade aka The Mayor writes: I've been given the task of writing about three new instalments in the channel xxx series, inspired by the late, great Mangiami restaurant.
From 2006 until its lamented closing in 2012 Mangiami was the downtown clubhouse for a very New York cross-section of DJs, artists, musicians, fashion people, music obsessives and assorted layabouts.

On any given night of the week you knew that within an hour of sitting down at the bar any number of your friends would soon appear, and be entertained by the massively charming owner, Gianfranco.
Then there were the DJ nights. Every Monday (and later Wednesday) from after work until far too late on a weeknight pretty much a who's who of local heroes and international superstars would play on the rickety old Technics sat on the bar, with mayhem and general debauchery to follow.

It wouldn't be a surprise to come in one night and find DJ Harvey at a table with Tim Sweeney next to Alex from Tokyo and Bing Ji Ling with Eric Duncan manning the decks and 100 people crowded into the tiny space and spilling out into the street.

These three 12s by some of the artists that frequented Mangiami, coming in advance of a compilation of original material on Golf Channel, are a pretty accurate view of what went on there.
From low-slung fuzzed out sleaze through gritty roadhouse blues via stringy guitar solo led disco to bubbly, infectious afro disco and finally dubby, reverb-ed out sheer lying on the floor madness there is something for all moods to reflect the eclectic shenanigans that went on in that now hallowed space.
Whilst I am not at liberty to reveal the identities behind these recordings, the word 'luminaries' definitely springs to mind - cop the vinyl and all will be revealed.

Is It Balearic bring the heat with a stunning release from Sorcerer. The First track is Zulu Honda. Skipping thick drums and a bouncing bass overlaid with nu med guitars and beautiful synth lines. This track is made for pool parties and lofts. The second track is Afro Vibes a more atmospheric percussive groove.
