San Francisco-based DJ/producer Nick Monaco has long been part of the Soul Clap family, releasing his first 12" on the label back in 2012. Mating Call, a double 12" set running at album length, is easily his most expansive release yet. It's typically eccentric, delivering a range of songs - featuring his own distinctive vocals - that blend numerous styles whilst retaining a loose, funky and altogether rather kaleidoscopic feel. It's rooted in Balearic pop, but also touches on dub, deep house, boogie, dub disco and a strangely deep and contemporary take on the triple-beat rhythms of glam rock. It's hard to accurately describe, but is really rather good; certainly, it's one of Soul Clap's strongest releases of recent times.

'1975' is special. It's Xinobi's debut album and it pretty much summarizes his recent and diverse approach to music. It has organic House Music and Disco flavors mixed with a strong, yet idiosyncratic, Pop sensibility that stands out of what could be too obvious on a dance music oriented record. During 54 minutes you're driven by a simultaneously homogeneous and diverse collection of songs that range from contemplative intimate moments to memorable chorus that gather tons of people singing and clapping soulfully. It's a dissimulated anthemic record but it stands as much more than that. Imagine the roughness of Caribou merged with Ennio Morricone-ish ambiences; the fragmental DJ Koze deep trips with sunny Lisbon as a background; Spaghetti Disco or Supermax on Jamaican Dub. Surf Guitar and Deep House. Simple and dense. Humble and nerdy. It's all of these glued onto a great combo in an intelligent and contemporary way.

Limited vinyl 12' reissue of this 1979 African disco classic from the great Mr Cecil Bunting MacCormack aka Bunny Mack. A perfect fusion of disco, funk and calypso, produced by fellow Sierra Leonean Akie Deen, this sweaty, pumping disco shaker has timeless dancefloor appeal and is still a big DJ play today especially after being revived as a contemporary club hit by Masters at Work and Anane and also sampled to great effect by Wale for his hip-hop banger 'My Sweetie'. Side B features the highly sought-after and very useful instrumental version 'Love You Forever'.

Jonathan Moore, the man behind Leftside Wobble not only shares a name with the legendary Coldcut producer, but he's been involved with the underground music scene for almost as long.
Having started out at Paul Oakenfold's Project Club in the late 80's he went on to residencies at seminal house nights Solaris & Kinky Disco. The nineties & noughties saw him at the helm of a series of memorable club nights for Dazed & Confused magazine as well as regular appearances at the now sadly defunct Kings Cross establishments - The Cross, The Key & Canvas.


In recent years he's better known for his productions, edits and reworks he puts out under the Leftside Wobble banner - his rework of The Beatles 'Tomorrow Never Knows' was recently picked by Greg Wilson in his 'best ever' selection of edits/reworks. And his electric approach to music production has seen him commissioned for remix work for a diverse set artists including Bryan Ferry, The Temples, Detroit Swindle, Public Service Broadcasting, Ambient Jazz Ensemble and The Time & Space Machine.


x-cursions has been set up to celebrate the eclectic in dance music and specifically not be tied to any particular sub-genre. The first EP contains a classic Loleatta Holloway disco edit, an Ike & Tina Turner Balearic soul rework, and an electro funk track that harks back to the production style of Arthur Baker (already being supported by a diverse set of DJ's including Bill Brewster, Chris Coco, Kev Beadle and Justin Robertson). And the social media buzz is already cooking on these tracks, so far they've been favorited approx. 1500 times on Soundcloud and received approx. 20,000 combined plays.

IIB's latest release is an EP from The clandestino crew. First track is a slo mo cosmic melodic acid dub. A beautiful early evening trip. This is remixed by the Beat Broker who adds a few sublime uplifting west coast sprinkles. The first track on the B side is a solid disco tinged house beauty with synth stabs subtle acid undertones claps and a great sample. The final track is Beyond the Sun. A mellow eastern tinged sundowner featuring another great sample. This EP really captures the original IIB sound and philosophy. A real gem.

Kudos goes to Watson and Ritesh Kumar's Adult Contemporary for coaxing this slab of Hatchback material out of Grawe with the 3 track Marin County 12" every bit as sumptuous as those aforementioned releases. Lead track "Paradise Drive" sets the tone and demonstrates Grawe's talent for arrangement with the languid piano tone perfectly complemented by the shuffling beat and rippling bed of warm textures that sit below. "Loma Alta" meanwhile sounds like New Beat gone Balearic whilst the soaring"Baker Beach" nudges up the tempo without any hint of sacrifice to the musicality."

The original rendition of "Mind Force" is silky and sun kissed and will easily melt the hear of even the most ardent disco grump; rich synth waves, lapping and flowing with major chord surges, are carried by chugging dubbed out beats and coated by the stunning harmonies of D'ete Blackshire. Throw in some dazzling key work and two script-flipping remixes from Brennan Green (one pumping, later night affair, one super-laid back and sedate) and you have yourself something very, very special.

A very popular piece at the time and fortunately returned in vogue today thanks to many followers, DJs and lovers to the great "Balearic" family. The music of Tony Esposito is inspired by sounds from many countries around the world, mixing tribal rhythms with Neapolitan melodies, well represented by the track "Je -na", where the wide range of styles is manifested in its hypnotic sounds and rhythm in his percussion. The two tracks were born in 1983 after a trip to Jamaica and were composed together with Pino Daniele. The style and sound of these two pieces reflects the influence of Bob Marley and his group, with whom Tony Esposito has worked both in Italy and in Kingston Town, Jamaica .

Like many of the greatest Italo-disco records, Tony Esposito's 1983 double A-side "Je-Na'"/"Pagaia" is ridiculously rare. Put it this way: if you fancy nabbing yourself an original copy, it will make a serious dent in your wallet. This welcome reissue presents both tracks in their original 12" glory, mixed with clubs in mind by Mariano Boncaldo of Klein & M.B.O fame. It's the A-side that's arguably the pick of the pair, featuring as it does a Balearic-friendly blend of dense, bongo-laden rhythms, tribal chants and delay-heavy guitars. There's a bit more of a hazy disco bounce to "Pagaia", which sounds a little like a long lost Tullio de Piscopo record - all jazz-fusion scat singing, sunny horns and shuffling rhythms.

'Everyday' is simply seductive feel good vibes and 'Gonna Getcha' on the b-side is keeping the boogie side of the disco fire burning. Hot stuff!

Nevertheless, they serve two amazing cuts here, both based on obscure Polish jazzfunk. - Krystyna' is the choice cut, with its infectious vocal hook and irresistible groove. - Marek' is a piece of wonderful Balearic slow house with rich rhythm and crazy synth action in the middle.

B Side comes from Maciek Sienkiewicz, one of the finest purveyors of Balearic grooves in Poland.
Two tracks served here wouldn't sound out of place in Alfredo's set. - Song For Mohindar' is the lead track, with its ethereal new-age atmospherics and exotic instrumentation. - Syntetyczna Kobieta Lux' is an electronic burner that you may (or may not) know from last year's TVPC Beats In Space show.

All tracks were carefully mastered and pressed on fat & loud 12inch to maximize your pleasure of discovering forgotten gems from Poland's rich musical past.

Cyber Dance Records return with a full-length double-vinyl album from Manchester's Kid Machine (aka Mark Wilkinson) following a string of instantly sold-out EPs for Viewlexx, Red Laser and Flight Recorder. A long-time collaborator of world-famous Italo Disco DJ Flemming Dalum, it's no surprise that many of the tracks have that hallmark space sound reminiscent of the likes of Cyber People and Koto, but Mark stamps his own distinct identity on the genre by slowing down the BPM's and incorporating many other influences throughout so that this is no retro affair but a distinctly fresh and modern take on the genre. Antilope's and Death On The Balcony's edits both are based around originals that were released in 1978 - stretched and sped up for the club. Matpat, on the other hand, selected a drum and piano loop from a Maxi Version of one of the first disco-rap records from 1980.

When the original of this club edit was released in 1978, it was already an edit, as it used poetry recordings of the band's singer who was by then dead for 7 years. With the overdubbing of music to pre-existing poetry recital tapes by the surviving band members, it marks the beginning of the creation of something new for the band. Right in this spirit, Antilope has created a club version that stays true to the original but makes it suitable for after-hours and late night venues.

Death On The Balcony's edit is all about the groove. Think Paul Humphrey, Ed Greene, Earl Palmer and the god-father of that 16th-note groove James Gadson. Death On The Balcony replayed some parts & added a more modern bass to mirror, compliment existing parts in the original track used. The hook of the vocal was made as an art of the verse of the beginning.

Matpat used a Piano-loop from one of the first disco rap records ever made and transformed it into a jackin house swinger. No more words needed, just enjoy it.

About ANTILOPE
A film buff from an early age, Balthazar Pinto, aka Antilope, cites cinematography as the main inspiration for the songs he creates (as one could hear on his Exploited debut ‚Body Trouble'). His discovery of electronic music occurred in the early 90's, and he quickly fell in love with the scene and decided to become a part of it. Despite beginning to produce in 2000, he has only used the Antilope moniker for the past three years. With this project, he aims to "create music that breathes like a soundtrack, but in a more edgy, club kind of way.' (Earmilk)

Leeds-born duo Death On The Balcony's distinctive brand of emotive house music has steadily grown to become one of the genre's most sought-after sounds. From edits for Soul Clap's free download series to releases on All I Day I Dream, SUOL, Pets Records, Culprit and Silver Network, they have graced many of underground house's most acclaimed labels and this is their first mark on Exploited.
About MATPAT
At a young age, Matthew Patrick Dodd was introduced to an eclectic mix of music from his family that would later be inspiration for his own burgeoning take on Electronic Music. By seven, his brother had him standing on milk crates so he could reach his first set of tables and by thirteen, he had already started playing classic records like Kraftwerk's "Tour De France" and Hard Drive's "Deep Inside." Matpat's sound is influenced by the producers that came before him. Detroit Techno, Chicago House and Disco from Philadelphia & New York (as well as his own productions) fill his DJ sets and have begun to distinguished him as a House Music Maven. His "Crush" EP was picked up by Terry Farley, the man behind Junior Boys Own. Mat's release on Stretch Armstrong's New York Dance Label, Plant Music received a 4/5 on Resident Advisor. Then he signed to Derrick Carter's label Persnickety for "The Chicago-Philly Combo" (which reached the Juno Records Top 5 Singles Chart). All this helped solidify Matpat as a house music DJ and Producer with a promising future. By the end of 2013, he released his track "Feel Your Body" on Samo Sound Boy & Jerome LOL's label Body High, as well as throwing invite-only parties at his loft in the "Eraserhood" area of Philadelphia. Now this is his second contribution to Exploited's Disco edit label Black Jukebox.

Sarcastic and obscure neo-italo-wave band Cristalli Liquidi once again steps into limelight with a third single on the equally mysterious Artifact imprint. Incubo Assoluto (which is Italian for "absolute nightmare" or so we are told) comes in a thick, pulsating synth mix as well as in a more straight and spread out version with just enough chugging guitar to mutate your dance moves from whirling disco dervish to robot rock. Lyrics are by Roberto "Freak" Antoni (known as frontman of 70s Italian punk band Skiantos who sadly passed away on february 12th this year). This is another ultra cool release on Bottin's Artifact label.

Quality reissue of Codek's highly sought-after first release from 1980. This hard-to-find 12' version features the incredible full length six minute version of 'Me, Me, Me' a funky slo-mo New Wave floorfiller that originally found favour with Baldelli, Loda etc. on Italy's early eighties Cosmic scene as well as the equally great instrumental 'Demo' version on the flip.

The KM Editions series, admirably helmed by the mysterious Keyboard Masher, has always been one of the more interesting re-edit/rework labels. Past installments have touched on krautrock, disco, Balearica, funk, Italo and what can only be described as electronic oddities. This sixth volume offers up three more impressively remixed, overdubbed and re-edited gems. There's naturally much to admire, not least the OMD style woozy synth-pop of "Stolen Shapes (Stealing Rework)", which should tickle the fancy of anyone of a Balearic disposition. The same can be said about the immersive, sun-kissed pianos and shuffling grooves of "Astral Playground". There's also a chunk of silly - but, perversely, rather good - French cod-reggae in the shape of "Le Cod", arguably our pick of a strong bunch.

Super hot limited vinyl reissue featuring two highly sought after 1981 Afro Boogie monsters by Nigerian songstress Oby Onyioha on the original Lagos based Time Records label. With production credited to Jake Sollo protegé Lemmy Jackson, both tracks here are stunning - 'Enjoy Your Life' is a proper funk bomb with heavy bass, gorgeous layered strings and a faultless vocal performance from Ms Onyioha while 'I Want To Feel Your Love' is an irresistible smooth sweet gem, with Oby's serene vocals light as a summer breeze over the top of a serious Afro boogie groove. Highly recommended!

The original gunslingers Phillip Lauer and Gerd Janson team up with their buddy Shan (his club hits "How you want it" and "Chord Memories" are still ringing in our ears) for two rough , but melodic power house cuts. We have taken this record as an opportunity to showcase the Mulatar, this beautiful all wood instrument, which consists of a bass, harp and percussions on the back and sides. The sound of this instrument is soo distinct because of the way it slides. It is a slide instrument, with wax contact to wood. Art Department, one of electronic music's most recognizable dance outfits announce the release of their eagerly awaited second studio album, 'Natural Selection', releasing through No.19 Music this November.

Jonny White, acting head of No.19 Music and Canadian techno legend, Kenny Glasgow make up the infamous duo known as Art Department, a collaborative project that has seen almost unparalleled success within the world of dance music in recent years. In 2010 the pair transcended genre barriers and paved the way for countless artists with their first single - 'Without You' which was awarded Resident Advisor's 'Track of the Year' and #1 track of the year at the 2011 Beatport awards paving their way to a level of success rarely achieved by underground artists.

Their critically acclaimed debut album, 'The Drawing Board' released on the prestigious Crosstown Rebels label; gave birth to a new sound that had drawn on the best cues from both artists. The LP was cited as an 'underground masterpiece' and credited with changing the musical landscape of the electronic underworld reaching #2 on iTunes and awarded 'Best Electronic Album' of 2011. In 2012 they reached yet another milestone when the duo were welcome guests on the legendary BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix and at the BBC's hallowed Maida Vale studios shortly before Vibe Magazine ranked them #2 DJ/Producers in the world, second only to Daft Punk, firmly establishing them as a rare thing in the world of electronic music.

'Natural Selection' sees Art Department expand upon their previous release, building a deeper and more mature and experimental sound that unravels through the duo's trademark murderous basslines, raw textures, expert production and distinctively melancholy vocals of Kenny Glasgow that have made them one of the most prolific writing/production teams in the industry .

Berlin based house producer, Aquarius Heaven and the infamous Seth Troxler, both partake with original vocal contributions in the form of "Kisses For Roses" and "Cruel Intentions" and blend effortlessly into Art Department's brooding, alternate reality.

'Natural Selection' represents the music, the story and Art Department's evolution from the projects inception until now, alongside Kenny and Johnny's personal journeys as individuals. Strewn with themes that centre on the cyclical idiosyncrasy of 'natural selection', Art Department explore a defined narrative throughout the LP; feelings of spiritual awakening and tranquillity, indecision and turmoil tell a story in which the beginning could in fact be the end. 'Natural Selection' is a diverse album in which Johnny and Kenny's inherently seamless production is in-fact a prerequisite to their existence.

Art Department's winter world tour celebrates the release of 'Natural Selection' and will see the duo take their immersive DJ performances to the world's most esteemed venues, festivals and No.19 Music label showcases around the globe from this month until early 2015. Art Department have been installed as residents at CircoLoco, at arguably the most revered club on earth - DC-10 (Ibiza) since 2010 and have performed at legendary venues and trendsetting festivals worldwide, including Panorama Bar (Berlin), Fabric (UK), Warung (Brazil), Output (NY), Ultra Music Festival (Miami), Lollapalooza (Chicago), Tomorrowland (Belgium), BPM (Mexico), Burning Man (Black Rock), Coachella (California) to name just a few.

The Natural Selection Tour will include some of these legendary venues as well as Art Department favourites and a series of intimate listening parties hosted by Art Department themselves.

Phrases such as "long awaited" or "much anticipated" are often taken lightly but rarely are these words ever as true as in this instance, as hundreds of thousands of die-hard fans anticipate the release of an artist LP that follows a truly classic, debut album that was so undeniably important to a modern day music movement.

Since AND002 when Derek Kaye offered his skilful reworks of Chaka Khan's 'Ain't Nobody' and Players Association's 'Turn The Music Up', his profile has gone from strength to strength with a dedicated SoundCloud following and a number of memorable club appearances, most notably at Motion in November 2013 when he shared the bill with A&R Edits curator Greg Wilson, closing the night with a back-to-back session - the first time the pair had DJ'ed together in over 30 years. For the next instalment of this in-demand vinyl-only imprint, Kaye makes a welcome return, lending his midas touch to two stone-cold classics, adding new musical elements (guitar courtesy of his son, Jack), stretching out the groove and warming up the bottom end for some serious dance floor business.

Written by Maurice White, Al McKay and Phillip Bailey, 'Saturday Nite' was first released in 1976 as a single and later included on the classic Earth, Wind & Fire LP, 'Spirit'. Here, Kaye masterfully revisits the production, bringing a contemporary touch to this timeless feel-good tune.

Next up is 'One Nation Under A Groove', the 1978 anthem by P Funk exponents Funkadelic, renamed here as 'For The Funk Of It'. The title track from their album of the same name, its lyrics refer to dancing as a way to freedom. The Derek Kaye rework features a newly added low-down funky guitar riff, again via Jack, that locks the groove from the first bar, before the opening lyrics (borrowed from 'Psychedelic Shack ' by The Temptations) cause guaranteed dance floor delight.

The AA side is a remake of the Starpoint classic from 1982 'Bring Your Sweet Loving Back', capturing perfectly Tracy's classic R&B roots & styling.

Groove Line Records kick off our Autumn series of properly licensed rare disco / funk reissues with Mother's Finest 'Dis Go Dis Way, Dis Go Dat Way.'

Hailing from Macon, Georgia, Mother's Finest were certainly not just another Southern Funk/Rock group. Taken from their Another Mother Further LP and represented here in it's 12' disco form, 'Dis Go Dis Way, Dis Go Dat Way,' released as a single in 1977, exemplifies their raw, danceable Funk/Rock sound, raising them above many of their contemporaries.

A true force of nature 'Dis Go...' opens with a full on, dynamic afro-latin, and eminently danceable percussion sequence up to 0m46s. This sets the strong tone and tempo before making way for the Sly-esque heavyweight funk guitar and keyboard chops. From that point on the solid groove and incessant guitar riff grab hold tightly, only letting go for the oh-so satisfying ascending and desceding bridge sections which, along with the male/female synchopated vocal refrain of the title, ramp up the tension to a crescendo. At 5m30s the crescendo makes way for the dense afro-latin percussion to return for the final minute before this sometimes overlooked dance floor monster fades, leaving you thirsty for more.

On the flip is another single from the same album, the funky mid-paced groover 'Baby Love.' Featuring a tight, heavy, funk groove and the layered, passionate vocals of Joyce 'Baby Jean' Kennedy, 'Baby Love' more than matches anything released by Rufus & Chaka. Check out the incredible synthesizer lead at 1m45s.

The occasional (but always excellent) Street Edits series returns, this time with a trio of high-grade scalpel works from Chicago re-edit hero Rahaan. As usual, the source material is dusty and obscure, and the reworks revelatory. "City Of Disco" is in many ways typical of Rahaan's work, with carefully cuts and loops being used to create a thumping, house style groove (admittedly one that pays due reverence to the source material). There's more of a celebratory, soulful feel about the impeccable "Strung Out", which turns a little-known disco-soul gem into a huggable dancefloor classic. Best of all, though, is "Brighten You Up", which sits somewhere between later electrofunk and early house; a proto-proto gem, perhaps. Either way, it's a killer.

Madrid's Synth Alien returns with a fresh EP out on Cyber Dance Records entitled 'Stellar Walker' that shows off his spaced-out and italofied influences in just the manner we've now come to expect from that label - slow-motion chugging synth workouts that are rich in atmosphere, confident in pace and arrangement and most importantly jam-packed with heavy riffing and piercing melodies from start to finish. Side A of the EP opens with "Come With Me", a dreamy and spacey slow-but-hard rocker that warms the ears up nicely before the second track "Hotel Chameleon" seals the deal with epic feeling and soaring melodic lines that break into an all-out synthesised feast of a climax. Side B continues with a collaboration with Moscow's Dmitry Distant 'L'Amour Est Parti', a romantically-tinged odyssey of relentless octave basslines that reaches even higher into new realms of future funk courtesy of a guest vocal from AKA INK before the EP closes with a monster of upfront determined electronic rocking called 'Smoke Comet', ending the record with a fitting cosmic crunch.

Paper Disco are back on vinyl ahead of their forthcoming Trash The Wax Vol. 2 and two totally exclusive tracks. Leon Sweet launches things with Sunny Bigler that has a Moroder style bass and plaintive male vocal designed to make grown men cry on dance floors. Italian master blaster shares the same side rocking his trademark edit chops with Games whch will only be seeing the light of day on this wax.

Turn it over and Yam Who makes an appearance with Natasha Watts and Paper tea boy Chris Massey on remix duties. It's floor heavy 4/4 disco with modern production and dynamics that will slot in to any discerning box. The second exclusive comes from Oslo young bucks De Fantastiske To who offer up a more house take on disco. Gimme Sum Dim Sum has a shuffling backbeat, lush keys and chords to give it an organic garage feel that tips a wink to the best that New York has to offer.

The mysteriously named 4M International was a side project of the production team behind short lived Italo group Trilogy ("Not Love", "Black Devil" etc). "Space Operator" is the only record the outfit recorded and is an ultra spacey, pitched down, cosmic anthem based around fellow Italian band Traks' "Drums Power" record, taking the rhythm track and adding a wealth of killer sound FX, synth washes and sinister vocoded voices inviting us to join them in some intergalactic space travel. Released in 1982 on Full Time records off-shoot Good Vibes, "Space Operator" would not sound out of place on DJ Harvey's infamous "Sarcastic" mix, this one's a real bullet for all the Italo, cosmic, esoteric Disco freaks.

"Space Operator" is a real rarity, with used copies often changing hands for collectors prices on-line.

As we move into the new century on disc 2 we come across the original master of the remix in Armand Van Helden including 'You Don't Know Me' and his classic re-work of Tori Amos, next up are belters from Masters at Work, Pete Heller, Basement Jaxx, Sandy B, Danny Tenaglia, finally we end this ultimate anthology with the genres latest raw recruits, Disclosure, inspired by Ministry originators like Masters At Work and David Morales, deliver a sound that is both nostalgic and fresh alongside chart toppers such as Duke Dumont, Breach, Storm Queen and Secondcity.

Editions Haighton are homespun edits of dusty curios by Hotflush Recordings' Jack Haighton.

The first instalment of a quarterly series takes its cues from the Italian disco scene of the early '80s, reworking Cyber People's 'Void Vision' into a Hi-NRG burner fit for the early hours at a former power plant, and JM Band's 'Computer Monkey' into a loopy tool with frills.

Grimy keeps the heat on with a limited seven-inch from Windy City legend Boogie Nite. "Words" sounds like a forgotten classic from the legendary early 80s NYC downtown scene. The smooth disco arrangement and punk-funk vocals could have emanated from a dream session between Walter Gibbons and Lizzy Mercier Descloux. Feel-good Rhodes piano lays the melodic foundation as a gang of female voices ruminate on the rhythmic meaning of words. All the while, a shit-hot disco rhythm section keeps things in the pocket. Sixth Avenue Express have been gathering a lot of momentum recently with their mid tempo, emotionally charged productions striking a note with a larger and larger audience. While they have put out releases across a plethora of labels their home has always been at House of Disco Records and thats where SAE is now releasing their next solo EP titled 'I See'. Full of the clever touches and the warmth you've come to expect from them this EP delivers on every front.

The first, and title, track 'I See' sets the perfect tone, a breezy warm track to seduce to. With a haunting vocal and soft strings coupled with woozy base line its the driving keys that turn this track from a lullaby to confidently invigorating and fresh experience.

Second on the release and most dance floor friendly is 'Clandestine' and like the name suggests is best listened in a secretive and illicit location, like a sweaty basement party. This track is laden with the trademark chords that pepper a lot of Sixth Avenue Express productions but its strength lies in its amazing vocal treatments, which shift and grow to an epic level.

'There's No Time' acts a a decompression chamber after a night out, the perfect after party choice. With enough melody to remain positive but a hint of a dark soul 'There's no time' is as alluring as it is fun.

Finally there's 'My Love is Alive' which is the most joyous and optimistic track to see out the release. It brims with full keys, sustained strings and strong vocals. Ending on a high this tracks message is affirming on two fronts, and affirmation of love and an affirmation of the timeless nature of this release.

Paqua unveil their debut album, Akaliko, a Buddhist word meaning 'Timeless' !
Back in 2012, a 12' slipped out with little fanfare that introduced a new transatlantic trio: Paqua. That record, the hazy, low-slung psychedelic rock masterpiece 'Dinosaur Zappa' was merely a taster; a year later, the trio followed it up with 'Late Train', a dub-soaked Balearic rock chugger that went on to become an anthem at open-air parties around the globe.

'Timeless' is an apt description for an album that bristles with sun-kissed beauty, fuzzy guitars, impeccable instrumentation and far-sighted late night charm.
It is, in essence, a perfect fusion of the renowned styles of its creators, British DJ/ producer Paul Murphy (AKA Mudd, famed for his deliciously Balearic compositions for Rong Music and his own Claremont 56 label), longtime collaborator Alex Searle, and Quinn Luke from New York's Phenomenal Handclap Band, an act renowned for their funk-fuelled, flash-fried take on disco-inspired rock. With these three at the helm, you're in safe hands.

The supporting musical cast includes Phenomenal Handclap Band drummer Patrick Wood, percussionist Patrick Dawes (famed for his work with Groove Armada), and Faze Action's Robin Lee, who provides cello on a number of tracks. It's a thoroughbred consortium that helps provide Akaliko with a textured musical richness that's never less than intoxicating.

Across the album's eight tracks, Paqua run through a range of styles, from the Latininfluenced shuffle of 'These Things Will Come' and disco-flecked dancefloor stormer 'Ruby Running Faker', to the blissful Balearic rock shuffle of 'We Are What We Are' and stoned dub-rock-disco shuffle of the title track, which builds in layers towards a breathless climax. The band's two acclaimed singles, 'Dinosaur Zappa' and 'Late Train', sound as resplendent as ever amidst such heady sounds.

With the Norwegian disco movement having given birth to many international dance stars, now is a perfect time to go back and re-evaluate these brilliant records, that provided the inspiration for a wave of producers in their wake. With all of Torske's album discography now with their natural home Smalltown Supersound, the label can finally feel complete.

Debut album 'Nedi Myra' was first released on UK label Ferox and his second album 'Trøbbel' originally came out on Telle Records. They have been out print for many years and have not been distributed on any digital streaming sites. Now lovingly re-mastered by Helmut Erler at Dubplates & Mastering, for the first time Bjørn feels that they sound as he intended them to sound.

Together with the late Tore 'Erot' Kroknes, Bjørn laid the foundation for the disco scene in Norway that gave birth to Prins Thomas, Lindstrom, Andre Bratten and Todd Terje. Inspired by DJ Harvey, Ron Hardy and Idjut Boys, Bjorn Torske and Erot brought underground disco and house/techno (Chicago/Detroit style) to the country, developing their very own style of tripped out dubby disco with their characteristic weird, humorous and psychedelic twists along the way. With Torske as with many auteurs, he hasn't always got the attention and credit he deserved. He is known for being reclusive, and an outsider, making music on his own terms and not playing by the rules of the record business. All of which has made him the musician's musician.

Torske's debut album under his own name was 'Nedi Myra' in 1998 on UK label Ferox. After that he released a string of singles with Svek label, among them the seminal 'Jeg vil være søppelmann'. That translates to 'I Want To Be A Binman' in English, which shows who set the tone for Norwegian disco's particular sense of humour. Also on Svek was the single 'Sexy Disco'; cited by Todd Terje as 'the first time I listened to disco in a non-ironic way'. "Trøbbel" was released in 2001 and in 2005 he signed to Smalltown Supersound and released the two 12' singles 'Kokt Kveite' and 'Ny lugg/Kort bak lang på siden' and the albums 'Feil Knapp' (2007) and 'Kokning' (2009). In 2010 he released 'Oppkok' 12' which was remixed by DJ Harvey and Todd Terje, and last year the 'Kok'

Inspired by DJ Harvey, Ron Hardy and Idjut Boys, Bjorn Torske and Erot brought underground disco and house/techno (Chicago/Detroit style) to the country, developing their very own style of tripped out dubby disco with their characteristic weird, humorous and psychedelic twists along the way. With Torske as with many auteurs, he hasn't always got the attention and credit he deserved. He is known for being reclusive, and an outsider, making music on his own terms and not playing by the rules of the record business. All of which has made him the musician's musician.

Torske's debut album under his own name was Nedi Myra' in 1998 on UK label Ferox. After that he released a string of singles with Svek label, among them the seminal Jeg vil være søppelmann'. That translates to I Want To Be A Binman' in English, which shows who set the tone for Norwegian disco's particular sense of humour. Also on Svek was the single Sexy Disco', cited by Todd Terje as the first time I listened to disco in a non-ironic way'. "Trøbbel" was released in 2001 and in 2005 he signed to Smalltown Supersound and released the two 12' singles Kokt Kveite' and Ny lugg/Kort bak lang på siden' and the albums Feil Knapp' (2007) and Kokning' (2009). In 2010 he released Oppkok' 12' which was remixed by DJ Harvey and Todd Terje, and last year the Kok'

EP with additional material from the Kokning' album sessions.

Session Victim love what they do. The pure joy they get from writing, producing and performing their unique blend of underground dance music oozes from their very pores, translating into pure good vibes for anyone witnessing the duo in action. As a label, we couldn't be more proud to see their growth and development from a couple of self confessed semi-reclusive studio geeks into the globe-trotting DJ's and headlining live-act they've now become. With their second LP for Delusions Of Grandeur about to drop it's easy to hear their constant drive to push themselves emanating from their new material. Never ones to stand still, the victims choose to draw influence and inspiration from their travels and the new surroundings they constantly find themselves in which, in the case of See You When You Get There, happens to be the beautiful city of San Francisco.

The new album marks a conscious progression in Freer & Relling's approach, evolving the sample-based production style that's won them plenty of fans since their emergence in 2008. Whereas their debut album was recorded in the duo's bedrooms, the new LP instead sees them embracing a full studio set-up, split between their own Hamburg-based studio and the fully-kitted out Room G studio in San Francisco. Despite being situated in one of the USA's most beautiful locations, the duo found little time for anything outside the work at hand. Time not spent in the studio saw them raiding the two-dollar bins of Amoeba Music for interesting records to sample. "Having access to a fully-equipped studio was like hitting the jackpot. It was a bit intimidating too - we thought 'if we cannot write the LP here, it's not in us'. A few days later we already forgot about this and were immersed in jamming and exploring," says Hauke.

Here we present the first part in a trilogy of LP samplers containing the piano- driven, percussion-heavy monster that is Never Forget, the uptempo psychadelic- tinged party funk of Stick Together, and finally the blissed-out West Coast beauty Hyuwee.

Joey Negro is the most well-known pseudonym of master British DJ/producer/remixer Dave Lee. Under a plethora of other monikers including Jakatta, Akabu, Doug Willis, Raven Maize, The Sunburst Band, Sessomatto, and Z Factor, Dave was one of the first artists to incorporate disco samples in house music when he began his production career in 1988.

His discography is undoubtedly as impressive as his knowledge of seminal house and disco, and now Joey/Dave puts it to good use with this album; a revisit to some of disco's most sparkly moments.

Rather than remixes in their modern definition this is a body of re-edits with the tracks given a new dimension to make them relevant and playable now. In many cases he has changed the drums, added percussion and sometimes keyboard parts but not totally ditched the music and started again as is often the way with straight up house remixes. This project is about utilising some of those fantastic original parts in a different way hat takes advantage of many of the songs classic status subtly teasing in familiar elements and dubbing them out.

First issue of the Salamanca edit series focussing on 70's disco sleaze.

In August of 2014 a request was sent out by Gilles Peterson for someone to issue the incredibly rare Brazilian LP Tam...Tam...Tam...!
This is because it's an extraordinary album, only issued once in 1958 as part of Mieco Askanasy's 1950s touring 'Braziliana' show. It's so rare not even Gilles Peterson has a copy.

The original music was written and produced with José Prates and as an album it stands out as a keystone in the development of the Brazilian sound that was to explode around the world in the decade to follow. This is the first time this landmark LP has been issued since 1958. An original, if you ever found one, would cost you in excess of £1000.

THE MUSIC:
The reason Gilles Peterson wanted this album reissued is because it is so extraordinary. Musically it works on a number of levels - firstly that the solid blueprint of 1960s Brazilian music runs throughout it. For example, if you listen to Track Three Side One 'Nana Imborô' you will hear 'Mas-Que-Nada'.

Secondly, the infectious rhythms, melodies and exotic sounds that emanate from this album are deep, raw and totally engaging. And the more you listen to Tam...Tam...Tam...! the more you hear its importance and influence.

This rare reissue comes at a crucial time, when in our connected and information saturated world few important things have escaped attention and reappraisal. Finding anything new and genuinely incredible is a rare feat.

'Southern Breeze' drifts out of the speaker on a swirl of circular sequences, driven onwards by a playful rhythm and the warm rumble of an irresistible bassline. As exotic as the title suggests, this comforting groove sways and shimmies with the delicate swell of a heat haze, setting the scene for the tropical glide of 'Time Capsule'.

And thus Andras Fox returns on remix duty taking 'Time Capsule' into his tranquil world of proto-house basslines, clean and precise melodies and lilting island rhythms. It's another future classic from the antipodean producer.

On the B-Side, 'Cascade' eschews the coastal scenes and salty air in favour of a midnight drive through the back streets of the city, pairing tough drums with a heavy boogie bassline as cinematic synthlines bloom through the concrete.

'Solar Eclipse' sees A Vision Of Panorama deliver a stunning curtain call that sounds every bit like a lost end of night gem from a forgotten era. Fragile mandolin, swelling synths, rhythmic fusion and rounded bass tumble over each other to create a delicate combination of subtlety and power, taking the Quintus Project blueprint into uncharted territories.

Once again Nado have cast the net wide to shower us with sonic wonders; this is paradise music.

Always in search of ancient mysteries' - Pascal Pinkert a.k.a. Dollkraut celebrates a mystical love for the space age which leaves the listener breathless with its celestial romanticism. Amalgamating influences from 80's Electro Funk, A and B-movie soundtracks to 70's easy listening, the Dutch composer, synth-wizard and vocalist creates a distinctive aesthetic that's both nostalgic and futuristic. His debut LP 'Schimanski's Black Lullabies' bellows 'Cinema' throughout its wide-spread and epic travel and using vintage vocoders and filters, Dollkraut sings haunting themes on several of the albums songs.
After years of releasing singles on Doppelschall, !K7 and Permanent Vacation amongst others, Dollkraut finally presents his debut LP 'Schimanski's Black Lullabies'; a release that marks his return to Brandt Brauer Frick and their co-owned label The Gym but - more importantly - his florescence as a producer of daring and idiosyncratic electronic music.
The album is inspired not only by the sounds of the 60's, 70's and 80's but more specifically by a kind of cult zeitgeist of each respective era. Nourished by TV programs like "The Scene" and by OSTs, it's flecks of Miami Bass and Off-key Electronica coupled with the use of B-Movie snippets all work to provide a true insight into Dollkraut's depth as a producer.
With a clear and consistent narrative throughout, the LP opens out for 'Rollercoaster' that initiates a purposeful charge though churning organ tones and walking guitar melodies before a cinematic theme opens up the landscape even more which works to contradict any expectations of a House music album people may have had after Dollkraut's dancefloor hit "Loot". This sequence theme, which seems to evoke the spirits of movie composers Bruno Nicolai or Guido & Maurizio de Angelis, is reprised two times further on the album, creating a framework and a lesson on superb re-instrumentation at the same time. Back on the dancefloor, the deliciously mangled 80's synth-pop tones of 'The Stars And You' take the foreground with a haunting vocal line that makes this song an early highlight on the album as it spreads an elegant breakdance vibe.
'NSFW' follows up with synth stabs and squelching blobs of acid scattered over a broken, late 70's Electro beat before 'Fire' omits a ghostly, sunken glow that hypnotizes with nothing more than a vocal, a darkly shining pad, a kick and a snare.
The tumbling Samba rhythms and Arabesque melodies of 'Zaghrouta' then give way to the haunting minor-key and vocoder combination in 'The Scene' which precedes the predominantly drum machine driven dancefloor destroyer 'Theme Of Fukoyama. The scattered hats and spring reverberated claps of 'Amadou' are then followed by another standout song: 'Yushkevic', with especially emotional vocals by Dollkraut. Melody and harmonies are equally reminiscent of traditional music from the Middle Orient and from the Balkans. 'Yushkevic' will also appear on a single together with 'The Stars And You' and remixes of both songs.

Jonny Cade is one of a number of young producers whose mature approach to music, DJing and production belies his relatively tender years.

From his residency at Leeds' Flux to productions on the likes of 2020:Vision, Kolour Recordings or Saints and Sonnets, Jonny has fast created a name for himself as an arist to watch out for.

Jonny's trademark sound is based on garage-house, but includes an ideal percentage of techno.

It really is all about Patrick Cowley's 13 minute plus 'Mega Mix' that goes off into the stratosphere (check from around the 6 minute mark for some mind bending out of this world production)... This is allegedly the first time Patrick Cowley used synthesisers and this mix is the blue print for his later remixes of Donna Summer's "I Feel Love" and Two Tons Of Fun "I Got The Feeling". If you've not heard this mix before or do not have this in your collection now is the time. Fully digitally re mastered from original reels.

On this second EP of Kulturkatzenjammer remixes, Madrid-based Rayko does rather a good job of making "Minolta" sound like a bright-lights-big-city production in the vein of Italians Do It Better. Parisian-via-Barcelona Toni Harispuru, better known as Golden Bug, reconstructs the anxious "This Vision" into something that stays close to the original, but somehow sounds even more obsessive and troubling. British producer Cottam, then, applies his trademark deep-house balm to the same tune so that it can tear the roof off the sucker any time of the week. Bomba!

Out Of This World was originally released in South Africa in 1978. The South African band from Johannesburg featured Mike Pilot, Miriam Stockley (later part of the extremely successful Adiemus project) and Malie Kelly (who has toured extensively the Gospel market in the States). Private Records proudly presents the first offcial re-release in 35 years. All tracks dubbed from the original master at 24Bit. (by the way the master was lost but a copy was rediscovered in Spain by Private Records)

Music is strongly linked to memory; sometimes just a simple note will trigger a deep feeling of nostalgia or emotion. The new Homesick series was created by music enthusiasts living half a world away from their birthplaces. Their concept is to play on memory, to re-edit and rework songs from the past into something which is timeless; tracks which feel fresh but remain true to the original.A

For the second release, the Homesick team went digging through old DAT tapes and have the honour to repress the mythic "Dance 6" vinyl 12" by DJ Kom.A It was originally released in 1997 and playlisted by Daft Punk in their "BBC Radio 1's Essential Mix" the very same year. Listen how Dance 6 pumped up these tracks with their Roland 909, 303 as well as vintage samplers, adding the inimitable grit that made these tracks absolute dance floor fillers back in the 90's.

People Must Jam have an undisputed three for three on the score board, and it comes as no surprise that this serious second innings in the Floor Jammers VA series is heading straight for the outfield too !

It's a truly international affair, as Chicago Disco Don Rahaan takes the lead with an irresistible uptempo Jazz-Funk rewire while UK producer Andy Ash is next up to the plate, rearranging and amping up a Teddy P classic

On the B, Tokyo's Beaten Space Probe takes on Millie Jackson's incendiary 'We Got To Hit It Off' (as recently hacked up by Tom Trago)

Globetrotting producer Guiddo debuts on Beats In Space Records with the Gin 'n Tears EP, three tracks of Balearic bliss featuring the soulful psalm of Greek-French vocalist Georges Perin.

 The record's title track lilts like a disco 45 at 33 rpm, Perin's croon rising higher and higher above Guiddo's bassline funk and expert riffage channeling Nile Rodgers' sultry stabs.
'I Miss You Now' glides on the seductive sunset vibe of 'Gin 'n Tears', while Perin pleads to 'lose that feeling tonight' in his characteristic falsetto.

The EP's finale, 'One Last Bite' captures the A-side's allegiance to the Balearic beat while riding into a pop-oriented realm that fits in with the best dancefloor ballads of the past thirty years. Guiddo elevates 'One Last Bite' with melodies made to soundtrack two lovers' farewell after a summer fling on the Mediterranean coast.

Each 12" on Beats in Space Records features original artwork in considerate and serial form. Nicole Ginelli abstracts the tone palette of Gin 'n Tears into a canvas of party survival tools, fittingly bright and ecstatic. ALESSIO NATALIZIA'S NOT WAVING PROJECT JOINS THE LABEL FOR THE FIRST ALBUM OF 2014. EXPANDING ON THE SONIC EXPERIMENTATION OF HIS DEBUT UMWELT RELEASE HERE HE EXPLORES FURTHER HIS INDUSTRIAL AND MELODIC INFLUENCES. 2013 was a good year for Mr Natalizia. Breaking out of his musical (comfort) zone and touring schedule as one half of Kompakt Records stars Walls, a deeper side to his music oeuvre was shown on the excellent Not Waving debut, Umwelt, before then going on to compile the killer "Mutazione" compilation of Italian New Wave 1980-1988 for Strut Records. Spanning 9 tracks Human Capabilities takes the sound of Umwelt and the subsequent super limited cassette only "reinterpretations" of Redacted and mixes harder percussive tracks alongside explorations of melody through ambient pieces that close each side. On titles Mathematical Man, Double Blind and Defensive Function, industrial and kosmische percussion is pushed to the fore, while Power Source Above Beam Line is the closest thing to a club track Alessio has produced outside of Walls. However, it's the more melodic Future Rain, Etosha Pan Aderci and the closing Satie homage, Conscious/Subliminal that a new side to the project can be heard. Having been named after a This Heat song, Not Waving is developing beyond that to go as far as the album title suggests. With a pressing of just 400 copies before more new music comes from Not Waving, plus material due from Walls and the planned return of guitar based side-project, Banjo Or Freakout, all coming later this year, 2014 looks to be a more exciting year for Mr Natalizia than ever before.

Dating from tape recordings made between 1996 - 2012, Cosmic Vibrations follows the Tropical Psychedelics (ERS003) album for the label, this time digging deeper in to the mind of Secret Circuit than the more dance flor inspired sounds heard on last years album Tactile Galactics album for Beats In Space. Again we glimpse a melting pot of pyschedelia, techno, balearic and ambient to create an electronic gem, but all done with a wry smile and jesters wink rather than today's penchant of moody seriousness. Life on the US West Coast shines from the album, from opener Out West to She Got Love, sunshine music that couldn't be made anywhere else. It's not all hippy-happy vibes though with Minimal Vibrations and the dub of Straightline taking things in to deeper and instropective territory. However, all things resonate in Eddie's analogue meets kitchen sink synthesis. Layer after layer flats across the album to create a smile-inducing whole. Journeying from the folk guitar of Somnambulation to the minimilism of Glass Skeletons, before bidding a fond farewell in the apt, Bells. This second and fial collection of early cassette works is not an end, but a blessing.

Remastered reissue of the original 1982 Mirage Records release of the wonderful extended disco mix of Carly Simon's gem Why. A must-have Balearic disco classic produced by the legendary Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers of Chic and played everywhere from the early Ibiza parties to the Paradise Garage, this release features both the fantastic vocal and sought-after instrumental versions. The original 12' changes hands for big bucks so grab a copy while you can. Quality stuff!
