Two original Classic members return too Classic with an adventure into the world of disco deviance. Tim Kavnosky (co-writer with Tim Shumaker from Home and Garden fame) and JT Donaldson (Undercover Agency) joining forces here, utilising their wealth of musical knowledge and inspiration to make something that melds the likes of Wally Badarou, the System and Maurice Fulton.
A little more left field for Classic after recent releases, but Classic nonetheless. Various interpretations of a mini LP to be released in the next few months...on this particular vinyl only version. Classic adds both Eddie C's disco adventure and the illusive Argentinean Leonel Castillo to the fold. Both of whom turn in stellar performances.

Part 3 of the Emotional Relish series sees Robi Insinna's work remixed by a quartet of British producers. Death In Vegas overseer Richard Fearless tackles "Be Loved" starting with an ethereal loop that builds on top of itself before the beat kicks in and the remix heads for the dark (leather) dancefloor. Mr Andy Blake channels the collective spirits of The Slits, The Pop Group and Killing Joke on his space echo laden remix of "Adolescent Sex" whilst Weatherall acolyte Scott Fraser returns to the Relish cause with a typically chugging rendition of "Turning" that has found favour from Croatia boat parties to the catwalks of Paris S/S 2013 no less (check YouTube for evidence). Cosey club founder Richard D Clouston slows down the tempo for a brooding, mind bending take on "Blue Girls".

Discotexas return with Mirror People's sterling 'Kaleidoscope' featuring a limited coloured vinyl release and a brand new remix from the excellent Psychemagik...
Rui Maia AKA Mirror People has been one of the hottest producers to come out of Portugal in recent years with a string of stunning releases on highly respected labels such as Permanent Vacation, Bear Funk, Hands of Time and of course eclectic disco merchants Discotexas. Now he is back on the imprint owned Moullinex and Xinobi with the superb 'Kaleidoscope' that will be receiving a vinyl release for the first time and features a brand new mix from Psychemagik. The release kicks off with the original version of 'Kaleidoscope' a bubbling and funk fuelled disco outing that pulls together dramatic keys, a classic disco B-line and a myriad of heart warming melodic elements to create a sumptuous production that is genuinely timeless, quality stuff. The original version is followed by a remix from label boss Xinobi who turns in a superb reworking flush with bright piano stabs and stirring brass parts for an alternative that retains the original character whilst stamping it's own mark on things. Next up we have a brand new version of 'Kaleidoscope' from highly respected UK production duo Psychemagik. Tom & Danny, the faces behind the name, have been burning bright for some time with a string of outstanding single, remixes and exclusive edits helping them ascend to exhalted heights in recent months. Here they take the original track deliver a delightfully uplifting yet understated melodic mix that plays on arpeggiated synth lines, rich warm bass and shuffling percussion, simply sublime. The EP is closed with Mirror People's 'Machines', a techy and taut production that reflects its title.
Another gem from Discotexas, enjoy!

RIVA STARR's second album comes 3 years after the critical acclaim of 'If life gives you lemons, make lemonade' (2010)- which spawned the seminal Balkan beat single 'I Was Drunk feat. Noze' now with over 10 million combined youtube views...
Riva has equally graced many different venue lately: from co-headlining the infamous Sensation 2012 events in Amsterdam (with Dennis Ferrer, Mark Knight and Hardwell) and opening for the likes of Swedish House Mafia, Kelis and Jamiroquai in Ibiza, and for Tiesto and Benny Benassi in the States, to regular underground gigs for the likes of Warehouse Project (Manchester), El Row (Barcellona and Ibiza), Cocoon (Frankfurt), Picnik Electronik (Canada), Watergate (Berlin)and Avalon, Betaand Set (USA)
Throw in the mix his very own Snatch! Silent Disco at Creamfields, the Snatch! Arena at Tomorrowlands and the Bateria Fantastica set at We Love... (Ibiza) and what you have is ever more perplexing... A Bricklane based Neapolitan cultural exile with a degree in Chinese literature; a passionate family guy who still manages to juggle a DJ schedule of over 200 gigs a year, a label, remix and production duties
Intriguing... They say you cannot keep a good man down, and as he swings from genre to genre and from fan to fan (over the years he has been praised by the likes of A-Trak to Tiesto, Giles Peterson to Pete Tong, Annie Mac to David Rodigan and almost every one in between) Riva's sound remains truly hard to pin down!
All this, intermingled by remixes for Gossip, Usher, Estelle, Plan B, Lauren Pritchard, Wiley, Fatboy Slim, Marina and the Diamonds, Parov Stellar, Manu Chao, Noze, Dennis Ferrer, Lionrock, Cajmere, Major Lazer, Steve Angelo, Reboot, Azari & III, Malente and many, many more...

Black Rox is back with 2 more sneaky Soft Rocks specials that have somehow been liberated from locked CD wallets and released into the wild for general consumption. Lead track "Music sounds better with 'fro" is a Stardust aping afro groove exploding into ecstatic, almost house, pianos. This one has been thoroughly road tested by dem Idjut Boys and Soft Rocks themselves... dancefloor detonation guaranteed. On the flip we get more righteous with "Brothers (& Sisters) On The Slide". Funky rollin' drums and a spoken word intro leading into a glorious anthemic song about struggling against the man.

Last seen brandishing a pair of Stillove4music releases circa 2009, Bruce Ivery resurfaces in style with the debut release on the newly established Street Edits label. "Clap Your Hands" kicks things off, hogging the A Side with a loopy retro disco style and a bassline that flows like Chic's "Everybody Dance". Face down, Ivery lays out two cuts, opening with an Impact mix of "Mr Paganini" (a possible reference to Ella Fitzgerald) fuelled by synthesisers and pumping drum machines, while the four-four kicks and thumping bassline of "Harlem" - sampling Bill Withers - parades around the track like ballroom dancers stomping and twisting to grungy strings and vamped melodies. If you liked those Stillove plates you'l dig this!

Heinrich Dressel from Minimal Rome and Ali Renault in his Cestrian guise team up to bring us the latest release on Cyber Dance Records, a split EP featuring 2 tracks from each of them. Side A is Heinrich Dressel's half of the record and kicks off with 'Out Of The Blue', a deep throbbing monster of a jam full of psychedelic synths rumbling and pulsating beneath mesmerising electronic tones. His other track. 'Thru The Fog' ups the tempo and pushes the rock-solid analogue weightiness into a Chicago-esque jack classic that DJs won't be able to resist. The Cestrian half of the record counter-balances Dressel's moody analogue jams with 2 LSD-driven electro-monsters that evoke bleak but somehow lush visions of life in the modern world of concrete and machines. 'Strong Face' with its distinctive audio sampling and dystopian future vibes would surely be just the kind of electro JG Ballard would approve of, while 'Methane Filter' is a tweaked-out electro rocker that sounds like robotic paranoia distilled into soundwaves. If you like your synths cooked to perfection you won't want to miss this!

EMOTIONAL RESPONSE RETURNS WITH THEIR FIRST ALBUM OF 2013, A COLLECTION OF EARLY, UNRELEASED RECORDINGS FROM RISING BROOKLYN VIDEO ARTIST/PRODUCER LUKE WYATT (AKA TORN HAWK).
As one of the rising stars of the East Coast US electronic scene, Luke's Torn Hawk releases on the cult L.I.E.S records introduced his cut up and glitchy take on R&B and House that have recently edged deeper and darker in to the Noise and Techno realms associated with the likes of Demdike Stare and Regis.
This has been complimented by two recent DVDs, self-released under his own name. Mixing his day as a professional multi-media artist with his night as an increasingly experimental musician, they have gained considerable acclaim that can't be pigeon holed as yet another Brooklyn House-head.
However, as his first White label debut EP testified, there is also an ethereal and at times (*cough*) Balearic feel buried deep within this music and it is here, on Teen Hawk, this is as evident as his Drone based pieces.
While the looping percussion and rhythms of Bertone Stratos and I Recommend Starman echo the ethereal beauty of Cluster and La Dusseldorf, they are also mixed with the darker ambient and loop based Wrong Crowd or Greystoke One.
Riding throughout much of this is his beloved looped guitar and eye for a breakbeat. Never more evident that on the album closer, Time For Thick. Here his influences mesh to create a swirling, blissed out, hip-hop meets Aphex MDMA anthem...minus the sexist gangster rap.

After the success of 'Volume 1', Downtownsounds continue their trawl through the big tunes from their long running nights in Dublin.
Dinosaur's 'Kiss Me Again' is a famed disco collaboration by Nicky Siano, Arthur Russell and Talking Heads' David Byrne, and here it's given a massive overhaul by Pablo and Shoey, with a brand new intro constructed from snatches of the tune's many percussion breaks. Using parts from 3 different mixes to emphasise the epic, Northern Soul tinged torchsong at the centre, and featuring additional edits by Siano himself, this one is a winner!
On the flip we have a much slept on slice of crazed 21st Century afro-psychedelia from Ashley Beedle's Black Science Orchestra project, a 6am groover that breaks all the way down to nothing halfway through, before letting loose with a wild drum solo and a ludicrous horn fanfare that has been known to deliver quasi religious experiences on the dancefloor.... We've seen it with our own eyes!

Riding high on the wings of their previous release 'Pulling Strings' on their Red Series, Eclectic Avenue Records bring us REAR002 'Deep In It' by Small Giants.
Small Giants is the wonderfully ingenious marriage between Leeds based label manager Jacob Kelly (J.Cub) and the Chicago house legend Joshua Iz. Combining their skills, they have taken a heady guitar lick, underpinned it with a smoothly infectious bassline and sewn it all together with a warm soothing vocal sample.
Call it house, call it disco. Either way, it's a surefire dancefloor killer and will take pride of place in any DJ or collector's record box.
Flip her over for a remix by Leeds darlings PBR Streetgang. Currently the hottest thing to come out of dance music's unofficial capital, the cheeky duo have put their own twist on the original by filling the track out with some chuggier deeper vibes whilst highlighting the instrumental solos.
A hugely successful foray into a funkier tone for what promises to be another trophy in the E.A.R cabinets

Red Laser Records returns.Back with more Manctalo !
EP2 is once again limited to 300 and comes on red vinyl with a printed wrap arround inner & pvc sleeve.
First in is a beat heavy analogue chug rework of the rare and weird Italo 7' 'I Am Your Master' by the mysterious Italo connoisseur Savino DJ and DJ Peet Need based in Holland.
The arpeggiating bass line digs a circular trench that gets deeper as the track marches on until you end up stuck on an island with a strange creepy midget man. Music that blurs the line between disco dreams and nightmares
Starion is back for more on EP2. How will he make a heavier track than EP1's 'Another Dimension' By making 'Darkstar'.
Analogue Manctalo Chug at its finest. Big bass line, big synth chords, big vocoder action. You couldn't get more 'dark disco electronic' if you went clubbing with Daleks and the Cybermen were DJing.
Just like Kid Machine, Starion has a great knack for making arrangement and production look easy (which It aint). Watch this space Manctalo heads. Starion is going to make some waves Laird Hamilton would be scared of in 2013.
On EP1 Ste Spandex dropped a great Boogie number with Sarah Bates. This time however is more 'mutating worm like acid wriggler'. 'Edit IV' is a relentless percussive onslaught that seems to scrape any MDMA residue trapped in your veins and gets it circulating again. This means you can get 'off your napper' without spending money on drugs. This is a bit of a taste of what's to come on Ste Spandex's own Red Laser 12' which drops a week or two after EP2 and is choc full of amazing productions.
Finally Kid Machine does it again! 'Pegasus' is so dark and heavy it's like holding a black hole in the palm of your hand and gives the feeling of a retro --future, sci-fi horror score. This really takes you to another place with its atmospheric soundscape. Stimulating the imagination to conjure a murky neon lit future. The future is dark, brilliantly dark !

With recent releases for Internasjonal and Tim Sweeney's Beats In Space Records, Los Angeles based producer Secret Circuit (otherwise known as Eddie Ruscha) has had a breakthrough year with his brittle synth jams, taking inspiration from Balearic disco and minimal wave alike. However, he's been a prolific producer since 1996, and this record on Emotional Response, entitled Tropical Psychedelics, collects productions from Rusha up until 2010 that have previously only seen the light of day on cassette releases. Described by the label as a "Balearic-Tropical-Afro-Psychedelic whirl", the album packs a rich palette of analogue textures into its ten tracks, from the Afro dub of "Afrobotics", through the hazy, beatless combination of piano and analogue synth on "Psouvenirs" to the psychedelic tropicalia of "Foggy Twilights".

The Soft Rocks collective feature twice on the upstart Black Rox label with two heavily tribal remixes for a so far unknown artist. The Soft Rocks take on "Filaw" is wrapped in horns and jungle sounds - not too far off a 1970s Brian Jackson and Gil Scott Heron collaboration. On the flip is a possible Talking Heads reference in "Once In A Life Time", which gathers mesmeric African drums and percussion, grooving in harmony to ritualistic chant. A Mohican David Byrne perhaps

Another exclusive Cooperation of Internasjonal / Full Pupp and Friends. This time we took three tracks from the second album of italy´s fine cosmic/kraut duo CRIMEA X and Bjorn Torske wich was originally released on Hell Yeah and gave them an extra special Prins Thomas Diskomiks twist. The result is as for me, especially convincing in 'Dream Is Gone' which almost sounds like a warm late 80´s Club version of a NEW ORDER track. Which, again, hopefully says something about its future Fanboy/Fangirl Potential... So simple and so nice...! Kai Fraeger, Oslo-Hamburg, July13

Ka-boom!
The legendary digger re-ignites the Lagos Disco Inferno and kicks off his own mouth-watering imprint with these two sides of boogie-down bliss. Irresistible Afro-disco, layered with delirious syn-drums and sick keys, and featuring a horn-line bumptiously whipped from Louis 'Thunder Thumbs' Johnson's bass-playing on MJ's Workin' Day And Night.
Originally from Warri where he stayed throughout most of his career, Tony's first band was the Famous Latin And His Dominant Seven. He gigged for a while as a James Brown imitator with The Great Peters, before his breakthrough fronting the Magnificient Zeinians, with some amazing 45s on EMI's HMV imprint — best of all the psych-rock-funk monster Ije Udo. From the early to mid 1970s, his EMI sides range from Afrobeat to rock and pop. All Tony's records are great. He came up with various names for his backing bands — the Black 7, the Super 7, the Black Kings...
From the early-eighties, with the Ozimba Messengers, Grey's two recordings here were originally released on different LPs.
Limited, top-notch pressing from Pallas via Abbey Road; with a lovely 12-by-24-inch poster.
The first in a fusillade of five.

The Rothmans label combines an unlikely link between football statistics, some of the best (or worst) haircuts to grace the European version of the game, with jacking drums and acid-based rhythmics. The label dedicates its third EP to French striker Dominique Rochetea, with a various artists EP as strong as the back four of Arsenal's '98 FA cup winning side. The Nigel Winterburn of the release is Coyote's "Without The E", a squelchy and Balearic groove with psychedelic vocals not too far off from Dj Koze "Mrs Bojangles". Aimes and Scott Fraser provide the EP with the composure of Tony Adams and the brute force of Martin Keown with their respective synth-led productions "The Kontemplation of Kosmic Order" and "Heat for Dust", while on the right - a would be Lee Dixon - Drvg Cvltvre, supplies "The Master Builder", an EBM and industrious dancefloor workout.

The music of Tokyo-based Englishman Max Essa is like a fine wine, it can be only stored in the finest oak barrels, it can only be aged correctly and it can only be drunk when completely ready. Max's approach is far from conventional, emotional content plays a major part in his works and now we find him on his third Bearfunk long player 'Won Ton Sunrise'. 'Won Ton Sunrise' is another step forward in Max's development as a producer / singer / songwriter. Tracks like the opener 'Asleep At The Wheel' offer a slightly more melancholic take to his usual sound, with a touch of Americana amidst his usual disco chops. Tracks like 'Unstoppble' & 'Back To Blue' on the other hand reference seedy twilight dancefloors, offering a darker, rum-fuelled turn for his fans. This contrast is present throughout the album. On the flip, we're lead in with the sombre 'Take My Hand.' Bongos ebb and flow like the gentle bob of a moored yacht, sultry guitar lines enter the fray and stuff starts getting smokey. Another highlight, 'Last Chance For Love' hints at the influences of Americana once again, with twanging finger-plucking and Essa's dead-pan vocal delivery. The record comes to a close with the fantastic 'Fifth Of The Eighth', a crisp, technical instrumental with propulsive rhythms and a real sense of partying away from home.

With his first release for Disco Bloodbath, London based Scottish producer Objects Of Illusion offers a powerful statement of intent.
The 'Private Games EP' features four tracks of raw emotional club music that, while there are nods to early Chicago and Detroit, go beyond mere pastiche and are instead something heartfelt and sublime. A stunning debut from an exciting new talent.

Geordie pairing Last Waltz mark their Tusk Wax debut in illustrious fashion with the first of two releases for the label; hand stamped, individually numbered and weighty 180g vinyl only release this may be, but there's still room in the sleeve for the concluding chapter. Tusk Wax 11a is opened by "Glamour Thing" which pairs motorboat arpeggios and interlocking kick-hat manoeuvre with playful synth fades. Sharing the A-side is "Tipping the Gulf", which sounds like a detuned version of music from Nintendo's arcade classic Cruis'n USA, while Jamie Blanco's remix makes use of the original's sustained leads, edging up them up in octaves to create extra tension. The final track ""Beholden (part 1)" is the record's ambient piece, with Last Waltz sampling, reversing and effecting the high pitched guitar plucking of UK indie band Foals.

100% original disco music is again the name of the game.

Meanwhile on the flip side, Disco Deviant Dicky Trisco is back at the controls following his heavy hitting remix of Drop Out Orchestra's The Blue Train' at the end of last year.

New Sheffield label Shabby Doll Records makes its debut with Nail's 'Donks' EP
We love music for what it does to our minds and bodies don't we It's the music that matters, not the number of units shifted.
Except... occasionally a figure comes along that does raise an eyebrow.
For instance, when London's Fear of Flying released the 'Ode Rammel' EP by Nail back in February, they sold out their vinyl pressing in a week. Not downloads or tracks streamed, but actual treacle-black vinyl.
Nail is Nottingham-based Neil Tolliday, a producer who spent the last decade creating deep downtempo joy as one half of Bent - their debut album 'Programmed to Love' helped ease the world's ills back in 2000.
However, 'Ode Rammel' is a flashback to pre-Bent days, bringing together four of Nail's much sought-after mid-nineties house tracks, originally released on the legendary DIY Discs imprint. It's music firmly in the tradition of the celebrated Nottingham party scene in which Nail made his first moves.
Now, with love for Nail's solo manoeuvres truly reignited, Sheffield's Shabby Doll label is taking the next step with his first new solo material for years.
Called 'Donks', Nail's new four-track EP showcases his flawless dancefloor instincts: -
PersonalEdit It's early evening and the lights have yet to be dimmed. There are faces you know, people you love and smiles everywhere you look.
Feet Boutique is pounding and percussive & darkens the room and deepens the mood.
Hey Baby There's something deliciously seductive about this early hours charmer. One to play when things are getting wonderfully weird...
and finally, Never4gEdit brings back the sunshine with some sweet, melody-flecked disco.
With Nail's vintage house output currently proving to have real staying power, lovers of real British house music eagerly await his new tracks.
So if you've got a dark room and a feeling, let Nail, Shabby Doll and 'Donks' add a little magic to the night.

Weaving sophisticated orchestral scores with spacious electronic production, OOFJ's baroque modern pop perches on the edge ofcontemporary music, overlooking both the familiar past and the anything-goes future. After bonding over their mutual love for French synthesizer music, all things Russian, and Serge Gainsbourg, Jenno Bjørnkjær and Katherine Mills Rymer formed OOFJ, whose distinctive chilled-out sounds find their way deep into your ear like an electronic wind gyrating with eerie symphonies plus the delicate sound of expensive-lingerie vocals, that could make you cry in a good-looking way. Recorded with the Prague Symphony Orchestra, OOFJ's ambitious debut Disco To Die To is ten darkly-tinted, downtempo movements of pop noir that simultaneously manage to reference disparate, touchstones and inspirations; Nico's hypnotic gloomy 60s folk, techno's minimalism and subtleties, Twin Peaks, the majestic symphonies of 20th century composers, and rhythms and structures equally indebted to jazz and trip-hop. Often all in the same song. Bjørnkjær and Rymer met in New York, while Jenno was playing in the band Hessismore and working on film music for Lars Von Trier's Melancholia. However OOFJ and Disco To Die To came about by accident at first. Originally OOFJ (Orchestra of Jenno) began as an instrumental solo project but everything fell into place with the addition of Katherine, transforming it into something larger in scope. After the passing of Katherine's father, they were in South Africa for the wake and upstairs in her brother's room they recorded the very first track. Two months later, while on a winter road trip through Europe, they recorded in the Swiss Alps, Germany and Copenhagen.

international guest DJs and performers such as Louie Vega, Black Coffee, Joe
Claussell, the Chosen Few DJs, Bucie and Josh Milan.
In this exclusive mix CD, Terry Hunter's first for BBE, Terry seeks to transport the
listener to the Shrine's high energy dance floor on a typical Sunday night. As they
say in Chicago, "Bang is a state of mind, a state of sound, a state of dance."
There's no argument here.
KEY SELLING POINTS:

Jackson, Janet Jackson, Byron Stingily (Ten City), Barbara Tucker, Latin
house music sensation India, Mary J. Blige and R. Kelly, among others.

at Work, on numerous projects including the 'Mass Destruction" project
and the remix of the Kanye West track 'Addiction."

House Is OK! House Is OK! House Is OK! Third and last part of the 'We Make Music' series has finally arrived and just right on time as Janis, Oliver Achatz and Homeboy deliver the perfect soundtrack for the summer, accompanied by a new friend, east-coast disco honcho Sleazy McQueen, assigned for remix duties. Homeboy opens with one of his most cheerful works so far. 'Hula Hoop' is a lot of things: it's Disco, it's House and it's as happy as Croatian dance music specialist can get. It starts with a heavy piano riff that gets doubled by the occasional disco synth, which works since Tee Scott first went into the studio. The chorus gets really cheesy. So cheesy, that the fat almost drops from it, yet the rough 707 drums and distorted bass keeps things on the floor. After the psychedelic breakdown, keyboard virtuoso Alexander Ismailovski shoots you right back from space to heaven. This is where you meet Janis and he takes you even further with 'Movin' Up". The stomping house beat strikes like thunder as the filtered swirling under it makes you open up your disco shirt and raise your arm like Travolta. This is no song for the shy dancers; this is peak time dance floor craziness! Do your boogie and shake that booty like your momma told 'ya! The flip starts with 'Express", Oliver Achatz' love train. Arpeggios chuckling like a locomotive, drums tight as the railway and the ueber-funky bassline invites you to the disco wagon, where the air smells of sweet perfume and the music is in control of your body and soul. This combo drives you safely to the break, where the vocals take over and prove once more, that Oli is a lover, not a fighter. Just be careful when you drop this bomb on the dance floor, the endorphin explosion might be heavy. As with the first two parts, the compilation is closed by a guest

A quick listen to the radio suggests that disco is back, not that it ever went away here at Retrospective and over the past few months we've been proud to work with some of the biggest names on the scene including Heion, Hardway Bros and Ajello. Still there's certainly something in the air and so what better time to welcome back to the label's Spanish King of the Re-Edits, Rayko, with a stunning new 4 track EP.
Since he last graced us with an EP he's gone from strength to strength, clocking up an impressive run of releases on labels such as Lumberjacks in Hell, Rare Wiwi and an album soon to be released on NANG. Throw in a relentless touring schedule and it's easy to see why Rayko is fast becoming one of the most loved names in modern day disco.
So here we have the 'Can't Get Enough' EP, an apt title we think as the second the needle hits and the title track, a trademark boogie dancefloor smash, kicks in you'll be up on your feet. The hypnotic bassline, the 80's synth breaks and soulful vocals all combine to stunning effect guaranteeing this a place in the record boxes of the scene's leading players.

Tom Trago's Voyage Direct series brings us another Amsterdam based talent. This time its the debut release of Interstellar Funk, who delivers the haunting and sleazy "House Train" which is backed up with a Makam remix.
With its raw drums and deep bassline "House Train" sounds like an 80's Chicago production, however the vocals give the track an unique timeless character and make you want to listen to the track over and over again. Oddly addictive. On the flip, Makam adds an extra drive to the track with its forward drums and synth lines.
The release of "House Train" almost never happened. Interstellar Funk, aka Olf Van Elden, recorded the track over a year ago, then gave it to a few friends and forgot about it. When it got into the hands of Tom Trago he immediately started to play the track at local parties, never realizing it was produced by a local. When he found out, he signed the track and commissioned Makam to do a remix.
Olf Van Elden is part of the new wave Amsterdam producers. Next to his Interstellar Funk project, he is busy with his Tape record label and spends his days at the Rush Hour Records office.

From the tropics comes Whiskey Disco, a sneaky re-edit label bent on dredging the decanter for diffident dancefloor genius from
latent disco perpetrators. It's loosely connected to Sleazy McQueen and his assorted cohorts.
Whiskey Disco #20, Swimwear EP marks the second EP from YSE Saint Laur'Ant. We here at Whiskey Disco HQ have a strong
appreciation for sunny weather and the appropriate soundtrack, and why not, we're based in Florida and never too far from sand and
sun. YSE is a kindred spirit with his glowing boogie down and disco jams, each one is top notch and we know regardless of your
geographic whereabouts, this EP will work for you day, park, pool, beach and early night sets. Go grab your suit, the water's warm and
the drinks are cold.

Filtering through apocalyptic sunbeams, the iconic voice of Róisín Murphy shimmers above Luca C & Brigante's spacey vibrations in 'Flash of Light' - the next spark of brilliance from the ever more ubiquitous duo. In the shining trio of remixes, Solomun takes it straight to the neon club, while Tale Of Us cast their ghostly spell and Blond:ish bring a dose of dreamy tech...When a friend of mine introduced me to the music of Luca C & Brigante I was stuck with an apocalyptic feeling, as if I were listening to the sound of a party at the end of the world. And with such strong imagery coming to mind I was only too happy to write with them when they asked. 'Flash of Light' is about that last night on earth, a forewarning of the end of an era and a last chance to Love' - Róisín Murphy

Monitor 66's arrival onto the scene with last summers 'Triscuits' saw them pop up on a lot of top dj's radar's, such as The Magician who opened his Magic Tape 22 mix with it. It also saw their first release on House of Disco, their adopted home. Since then the two boys from Sweden have been honing their sound through a series of lauded remixes for Tempogeist, Kolombo & Rythm Operator. Now after some painstaking studio time they are ready to release their next original work, their first solo EP, Vitae on House of Disco Records.
'Vitae' starts with the title track, which firmly re-enforces their manifesto of making music for sunsets. Bit's haunting vocals are given a different context with some invigorating melodies and bright positive basslines.
Next up is 'Virago', a slightly more sultry affair featuring some rebuilt but familiar vocals that progressively open up as if bearing their soul and plenty of shifts and depth to keep sneakers on the dancefloor.
Third on the EP is their most house orientated track to date 'Nyx'. Hi hats keep the tempo as this one gets a little harder, again their vocal treatments are a signature of their sound but this time with a more 90's feel.
Finally we have 'Cur' featuring Oh Deer. A truely unique end to the EP this track plays out like a love story, a fitting sunset to an accomplished and long awaited solo EP from the two young swedes. The first of many by the sounds of it

Telonius will release his debut album on Gomma in the end of August. And seems there is quite a buzz about it already.
The last Telonius single 'Old Toy' got props from people like Kolombo, The Magician, Tensnake, Maxxi Soundsystem, Andre Crom, Zombie Disco Squad and we are quite sure that this next single will get even better feedback.
This track is quite special. The sound is not comparable to most of the common house tracks around at the moment. This is not made with the standard sound library. It sounds much finer. With well chosen instrumentation. A deep funky bassline with a pushy, straight rolling beat is the fundament to some beautiful flutes and strings and some melancholic vocals. It's house, but it's more. Disco, New wave
The single comes with 2 remixes by Berlin top dog Tigerskin and Audiojack's partner Nolan.

Emotional Relish welcome in their second EP of 2013 with some solo work from Scott Fraser after a previous collaboration with Headman and Nitzer Ebb vocalist Douglas McCarthy. The Light Sleeper EP pairs two trademark Fraser cuts with remixes from the aforementioned Relish boss and fellow Weatherall acolyte Timothy J Fairplay. A drab bassline wades "Paraphase Mine" into the murkier exclaves of synthy territory, allowing Headman to lighten the mood by adding some tonal difference in his mix. Fraser sets his arpeggios to flutter and bounce in "Centreville Lapse" with marching snares set to a Severed Heads styled reverb. Fairplay does away with the tracks nosier components, demystifying Fraser's original for a warmer, eat petting remix.

Revivra is back on GAMM with two seriously well produced re-edits (or remixes) on the soulful boogie tip.
Just like last time this is just not some quick 5 min fixes but hand crafted reworks that takes the original tracks to the next level with loads of added live elements.
The a-side's take on Midways "Set It Out" is so good it almost makes the original sounds like the remix. With a beautiful live string intro it explodes into a proper boogie winner that easily could have been produced by any of the big producers from late 70s.
On the flip Revivra goes back to his deep love for Marvin with +11 min excursion of "Mercy Mercy Me". Epic is an understatement!

Selvagem is both the name of the DJ duo as well as the name of their monthly party in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
It's a monthly sunset party that is considered one of the best in the city. They have hosted DJs such as Twitch from Optimo, Severino from Horse Meat Disco, Andy Blake from World Unknown and Paul Thomson, the drummer for Franz Ferdinand.
They recently did a mix for Beats In Space that was 100% Brazilian music. From disco to funk, psychedelic, post-punk, electro and batucada.
It's a mix of luscious rhythms, crazy translations and outer-world oddities that can provoke one's inner savage.

Love, Murder, Passion...in the heat of the night what is unresolved comes to the fore.
After our maiden voyage into the unknown last spring, on our continuing expedition we find ourselves entering into the fantastical world of a bedroom jockey with a sublimely over active imagination.
First on the A-side is 'Heat Crime' a dreamy half reverie that unfurled itself near the end of a late night session. Through misty intimations it gradually took shape, stirring delight in its receptive translator. In the beginning it was an unformed mood but through toil and mishap it became music. It was underived, but its cousins and aunts are the forgotten and quietly enchanting soundtracks to Ms Marple, Hercule Poirot and their ilk, who drip mystery and beauty unannounced calling the heart to attention.
The second track on the A-side is 'Moon Letters' a crescent lit jazz nocturne, evoking visions of stormy seas on a far off globe, Two parts euphoria to one part melancholy, it is a highly composed piece of rave revival.
On the flip Peter plunges 'Heat Crime' into the paranoid depths of near psychosis, only to re-emerge with triumphant redemption. Take a little trip with us, Love, The KR-Family

The three tracks of Tornado Wallace's Desperate Pleasures EP sound like the work of a comfortable yet adventurous producer who isn't afraid to take a simple yet exotic theme and stride to the other side of the jungle.
According to Wallace, this is "music for darker times in warmer climes, for where there is sun there are shadows.'
What began as in-the-moment experiments with an assortment of old synths, drum machines, and dusty library records evolved into three super dapper, viscerally contaminated compositions, each one more zoned in / out than the next.
Drawing from 70s kraut, 80s post-punk, electro, and 90s house and trance, the ten plus years of producing / DJ experience that Wallace boasts allow for all of these elements to fuse together quite tastefully and strikingly at that.
Ultimately, these Tornado jams dodge genre conventions for a curious and compelling outcome.
Each 12 from Beats in Space Records features original artwork in considerate and serial form.
This 12 features the tropical creature comforts of Californian Steven Harrington and is pressed on tri-colored, Day-Glo splattered wax.
The 12 packaging constructed by Will Work For Good features a removable vinyl BIS logo cling.
Tornado Wallace's Desperate Pleasures will be released on June 18, 2013 on Beats In Space as a limited edition 12'

Edits may be dead, but just when your elitist attitude comes to a head and you think you're on top of your game, there will always be someone deeper, faster and still motivated enough to rekindle your digging desires. Where Blackdisco Volume 10 saw the return of Lovefingers and Nitedog, Volume XI pushes forward into new territory (and with a new aesthetic) by welcoming a group of three deep diggers who shun musical trends and their inherent fakers. Dea, Albion & Spacelex combine their vinyl-mining efforts to unearth some real diamonds from the rough. Dea's cut Malaka its a floater with a funky sailboat vibe, while his complimentary cut Taubat takes the tired jungle disco vibe to new level with its triumphant synth-led chorus, an absolute stunner that could be extended for 20 minutes. On the flip, Albion spoons water over the coals, steaming up the joint with an uptempo percussion bomb as if Santana had a disco secret, and Spacelex rides us out with a sexy rock groove complete with mysterious male voiceover, almost as if someone lowered the volume to whisper in your ear.

This second Hobbes Music release is an introduction to the productions of labelowner Hobbes and studio partner Leonidas. It sees the pair harness a love of classic disco, techno, electro, acid, house and UK bass/dub, to create an EP with one foot in the past, one foot in the future and both eyes aimed squarely at the dance floor.
A1) Driftin' employs a vintage gospel sample and a bank of equally vintage synths (ARP Odyssey, Roland Juno 106, Roland SH101, Sequential Circuits ProOne) for a very contemporary, hybrid mix of UK bass and house. This track has already had airplay from Rob Da Bank (BBC Radio 1), proved popular on Soundcloud and has been dropping extremely well when played out, so we think you'll agree it's rather special!
A2) Penthouse Dub is a more spacious composition. Classic disco congas and a delaysoaked guitar line recall the Balearic style of Norwegian modern disco don Todd Terje, then the vintage (Sequential Circuits Prophet T8) synth lines drop... The title is a nod to Heaven 17's classic album, Penthouse & Pavement a key reference point during this track's production.
B1) Jackin' Pschidt treads a more European path, referencing Belgium's late Eighties Nu Beat scene via its drum programming and acid line, with a heavily arpeggiated synth for its euphoric main riff and classic Nineties techno claps driving the beat home. A vocal refrain, compelling you to 'break it down: get into the groove', is as simple a call to action as any you'll find in dance music. But, again, it's the track's bassline which will really get people moving their bodies: no fuss, few effects, just simple dancefloor dynamics. This mix has also proved popular on Soundcloud and been dropping well when played out. The title is a nod to a certain Chicago legend...
B2) Referencing afterhours parties in dingey warehouse spaces, Pavement K flips the script completely, slowing things down and spacing them out all heavy reverb, plodding kicks and atmospheric toms that ring out like some tribal gong in an old Kurosawa film. The bass stabs are as fierce as anything DMZ have put their name to, while the acid line and skittering hats are closer to early Plastikman. The brief vocal snatches are hardly any less abstract, before more waves of bass wash moodily over you and that familiar voice returns to let you know about 'a lot of machines, tapes and electronic setups....' Watch yer bass
bins!

Lío en Río is the epilogue for Con Mi Tiempo Y El Progreso, Linda Mirada's sophomore album, a wonderful collection of summery disco-pop gems. Five of the album's songs are remixed for this E.P.
LA's Secret Circuit, fresh from his first album release in Tim Sweany's BIS label adds a tropical twist to Aire while New York's Phenomenal Handclap Band put their pyschedelic disco sorcery in Secundario. From this side of the pond, fellow Spanish producer Daniel Kyo prepares a Tour de Force with Dinamo and Barcelona's Sabore Bicoro takes Lío en Río to the Balearic territory. Finally Russian amigos Simple Symmetry (half of Pompeya, Moscow's electronic indie kings) take La Costa into an Italo Disco trip to full effect. This EP is definitely a joyful trip through delicate disco influenced pop.

Record Store Day is synonymous with exclusive and limited releases and this year is no different. Featuring our first volume in a series of re-edits from our Luv N'Haight catalog starting off with Mike James Kirkland. Nico Jaar's edit 'What My Last Girl Put Me Through' on his excellent 'Bluewave Edits' previously released by Wolf+Lamb Records is featured on the A-side with a deep rework of the classic 'What Have We Done' by prolific and talented producer 78 Edits on the flip.
Nico Jaar's highly sought after 'Bluewave Edits' release in 2011 contained some radical re-takes and treatments to tracks by Missy Elliot and The Blow but his re-vision of The Mike And The Censations track 'There's Nothing I Can Do About It' was arguably the highlight. Originally released as a 'promotion only' single, this release is an official collaboration between Wolf+Lamb and Ubiquity Records with a follow up edit of another Mike And The Censations track by Nico in the works to be released in the near future as Vol.2 of the Mike James Kirkland re-edit series.
UK producer Jamie Buchanan aka 78 Edits is a veteran in the 12' re-edit scene with releases on Giant Cuts, Audio Parallax, and Editorial. His take on Mike James Kirkland's 'What Have We Done' from the legendary 'Hang On In There' album transforms the original from a conga and vocal driven song to a stretched out, 8 minute, mid-tempo dance tune.

Hott - Works Karen Young's classic 'Hot For You' vocal to fantastic effect. It comes off sounding like half vintage Master C+J, half early Permanent Vacation 12'.

This latest release on Craig Bratley's ever-essential Magic Feet is a 10' which features two remixes of tracks from Femi Kuti's album 'Day by Day' which have never been released on vinyl before.
The remixes were commissioned as part of a unique creative collaboration between Mercer Street / Downtown Records and the Santa Monica-based public radio station KCRW.
And were originally featured on a limited edition compilation CD that was only available as a membership premium during KCRW's bi-annual pledge drive to raise funds to support the station's programming.
Liza Richardson's remix of 'Eh Oh' first came to Craig Bratley's attention when Sean Johnston featured it on his Beats In Space mix. (The engineer on the remix, Jake Davies, was previously Sean's partner in The Hardway Bros). With Magic Feet becoming established, Craig decided to license the track in order to make it available to vinyl lovers.
To complete the package we have Garth Trinidad's Fiyah Dubb of 'One Two', which has additional production by The Mad Scientist.

Over four instant classics as suitable for a humid dancefloor as an outdoor BBQ, Navid's Feeling Purple EP exudes an unmistakably summertime vibe. Think Spike Lee's cracked Brooklyn concrete, a crisp new pair of white Levi's, your older brother's Latin Freestyle mixtapes, high-tops straight out of the box, an afternoon cruise around the block.
The EP's title-track features a tiptoeing, gentle stalker of a baseline, gradually unfurling cowbell, and a single, sustained Sunday afternoon matinee organ: simple, d.i.y. elements which evoke the naughty playfulness of a young Prince (or Blood Orange) left alone in his room too long. When Navid croons, 'You got me so discombobulated I don't even know my name/You got me dancin' around my room playin' my air guitar like I'm insane' he captures a sexually charged earnestness gone missing from today's wonky overproduction. True to form, Soul Clap's remix is a study in elevation, a sustained 'hands in the air' arpeggiation that takes the track from sad breakup to first-time party hookup.
The EP's B-side begins in a glorious wash of afternoon sunshine with 'Hard to Find,' a showcase for the wistful yet optimistic vocals of Jesse Rennix, another Bay Area Native also featured on Tanner Ross's 'Blame Game.' Accompanied by subtle disco touches worthy of Giorgio Moroder, Rennix sings of new love, new possibility, the joy of starting over...the ethos of summertime at its core.
'Crew is Staying' is a childlike romp through a grownup's afterparty. As Navid complains of 'ashes on the motherfuckin carpet' and randoms from the club staying past their welcome, one can't help but remember those packed June days at the Marcy when the party took a much needed clearing-out pause, only to begin again for the inner circle. Looking forward to a bright career of releases like this, Navid is definitely invited to stay on.

Fresh from releasing a special, limited edition boxset of The Machine's debut album, fully reinterpreted and re-recorded by Joaquin Claussell (each personally hand-painted by Australian artist Misha Holenbach), the Pyramids Of Mars imprint is set to drop its first official single. Again, as with the Machine boxset, the label is set to collaborate with Dalston's LN-CC store to exclusively stock this special leather (yes, leather) sleeved vinyl. So who is worthy of such an opulent package Step forward Rouge Mécanique - a 25-year-old Parisian armed with a Telecaster and a fresh approach to dance music, whose fashion designer friend Aurelia Paumelle designed the unique sleeve. The title track 'Witches' sees rock'n'roll guitar slashes slowed down to a sexual disco groove, while swirls of psychedelic noise come from all angles. It's got the grind and the groove in a way not heard since The Skatt Brothers, conjuring up images of New York's sleazy meat-packing district of yesteryear. On the B-side 'Stingray' is even more offbeat, a tripped-out hip hop groove originally composed to accompany the models on a catwalk - like Ry Cooder, Didier Marouani and Andrew Weatherall left the party at 5am to hit the studio to make a blues record like nothing you've ever heard before. Citing the realm of fashion as a strong influence on his music, this impressive debut is the perfect marriage of both those worlds - keep your eyes peeled for Rouge Mécanique's debut album due for release on Pyramids Of Mars later this year.

"All us here down on Bird Scarer farm have been fans of the work of Mr. Craig Bratley for some time, so it is with pleasure unbound that I announce the release of Bird Scarer 4...
Manufactured in a town just outside Leeds and tested on humans for the first time in a tent just outside Skipton... Ladies and gentlemen... Boys and Girls... 'Obsession' by Craig Bratley.
A sleazy new-beat erotic monster of a tune channeling Mr. Delgado and Mr. Gorl (that's D.A.F. to the un-initiated) in the original version and slo-mo'd even more with added live bass (Andy Baxter) and guitar (courtesy of ex Sons Of Slough member Mr. Duncan Gray) via the Asphodells Mix.
Enjoy a 10" obsession..."

Emotional Relish sees Emotional Response team up with the Relish label overseeen by Headman to launch the limited Emotional Relish label with the first release helmed by Headman in cahoots with Scott Fraser and Douglas McCarthy of Nitzer Ebb fame. The title track has McCarthy suppling gurgly and anthemic vocals while Headman and Fraser drop cold basement beats, warbling synths and driving arpeggios. Of the three alternate mixes, the first comes from the Hardway Bros and their "Axis Forces dub", which powers home '90s new beat and EBM stylings, while Mexican producer Daniel Maloso puts emphasis on the the original arpeggio and breathy McCarthy vocals. The additional dub mix reduces the synth action and like Maloso, reworks the the Nizter Ebb's vocalist's yelps, making a great alternative club mix.

Following on from his blistering Essential Mix debut back in February, Marco Niemerski AKA Tensnake releases his highly anticipated new single '58 BPM' on May 13th. Just like his equally on-point remix for Little Boots celebrating Record Store Day in 2012, this new release is an equally limited vinyl run that's limited to 400 copies worldwide - only this time, the music is all his own. And the remix on the flip comes from Dublin-via-Berlin producer Mano Le Tough.
'58 BPM' is the first fruits of Tensnake's long-awaited artist album, which will be released at the end of September. A little slower than some of his recent output, '58 BPM' is a shimmering, soul-drenched electronic ballad that features the vocal talent of Berlin-based singer/songwriter Fiora.
With a catalogue that already includes classics like 'Coma Cat', 'Holding Back My Love' and 'In The End (I Want You To Cry)', Tensnake is one of the most exciting electronic artists at work today. We'll leave the last word to Niemerski himself:
'58BPM' is a song I produced with the super-talented singer Fiora, who features on several tracks on my forthcoming album. I am extremely proud of the song and the whole vibe of the track - and it's a sign of what's to come: The remix on the b-side comes from Mano Le Tough, whose new 'Changing Days' album on Permanent Vacation I really love. I also put out his very first record 'Eurodancer' on Mirau back in 2009 so there's a nice link from the past to the present and future!"

FAR OUT RECORDINGS IS PROUD TO PRESENT TWO CLASSIC AZYMUTH TRACKS MASTERFULLY REMIXED BY THE MIGHTY HAT-WEARING PRODUCERS ASHLEY BEEDLE AND OPOLOPO. TAKEN FROM THE FORTHCOMING MAY RELEASE OF 'AURORA REMIXED' (2xCD), THESE 4 CUTS WILL KEEP DANCEFLOORS HEAVING AROUND THE GLOBE THIS SUMMER.
Aurora 'Remixed' is an electrifying album that mirrors, like for like, the tracklist of the original 2011 release, with remixes and re-edits specially commissioned from some of today's most in-demand producers. On the A-side of this 12', Far Out family friend and producer extraordinaire Ashley Beedle, slows down the tempo of 'É Mulher', grabs elements of Bertrami's original melody and shapes them around a seriously funky bassline to deliver a spaced out groover of epic proportions. The remix is accompanied by a slick dub version with darker connotations, deep spacey synths and a deliciously liquid low-end. Dub version exclusive to the vinyl release.
On the B-Side, Far Out meets for the first time with Swedish producer Opolopo. After being hugely impressed by 'Mutants', a collection of his remixes for Tokyo Dawn Records, (including the massively popular rework of Gregory Porter's '1960 What') the label approached the talented producer for a remake of 'Carnaval Legrand', a classic Azymuth tune that Bertrami dedicated to the great Franco-Armenian arranger and composer Francisco Legrand. While maintaining the original samba doido (crazy samba) spirit and melody, Opolopo counterpoints infectiously funky keys with rolling filtered percussion and sub-end drops to create a tougher remix, ready for the 2013 dancefloor. The dub cut does away with the main melody for a more stripped down version that brings deep stabs and choice elements of the funky keys to the fore whilst maintaining a deep and driving groove.

ESCORT is definitely not your typical band. Escort is big. Literally. The seventeen-member "disco orchestra", founded by producers Eugene Cho and Dan Balis, and fronted by lead singer Adeline Michèle, features an incredible cast of musicians who have played with everyone from indie-rock titans Arcade Fire to avant-classical luminaries Alarm Will Sound.
No Static Recordings is excited to announce a ten track album of remixes of classic Escort tracks, by some of the Disco and House scenes key players including Greg Wilson, Ewan Pearson, Max Essa, Leftside Wobble, Proper Heat, Venice Beach, Jkriv, Black Russian and Sub Swara. Available on CD and digitally at all good music stores this Summer.
Escort burst on to the scene in 2006 with a string of critically acclaimed 12"s that included future classics "Starlight" and "All Through The Night", both DJ staples that get still get plenty of play on dancefloors. As DJs nursed their electro-clash hangover with a seemingly never ending stream of disco edits, Escort stood out, in part, by creating dance music the old fashioned way: with impeccable production, musicianship, and song-writing. The following several years saw them bring the same uncompromising approach to their live show. In an era where dance music is dominated by samples and computers, Escort took a sprawling ensemble to the stage and developed a reputation as one of New York's most compelling live acts, capable of performing their elaborate recordings note for note.

In January the debut album 'The Damage Is Done' by Hot Coins,
the disco crossbreed project by Danny Berman (best known for
his house productions as Red Rack'em), was released. His
personal time machine journey into the sights and sounds of
downtown New York sometime around the late seventies/early
eighties is much more than a tribute to his heroes of those times. It's
also a brilliant examination of today's club music.

Delivered from its celestial womb to the human world for inevitable elevation, Tactile Galactics is the new album by Secret Circuit and first full length release from Beats In Space Records (RVNG Intl). Secret Circuit is the guise of Eddie Ruscha Jr., a sometimes sage known and beloved throughout the Los Angeles creative community. Amongst his earliest musical endeavors, Ruscha co-founded Medicine, an overlooked four piece whose sinister, snarling take on shoegaze landed them as the first American signing to Creation Records. After leaving Medicine without a bad taste in his mouth, Ruscha's focus shifted from his shoes to the endless array of LA music stores housing analog synthesizers, drum machines and effect units forsaken at the advent of digital technology. While establishing his Secret Circuit identity through various self-releases, Ruscha was a wingman in notable projects with Thomas Bullock (Rub 'N' Tug) as Laughing Light of Plenty and with DJ Harvey as Food For Gods. Ruscha likens his studio obsession to 'striving for alien sound or rhythm that feels natural.' Between 2011 and 2012, Ruscha released no less than four albums, a 12' for Prins Thomas' Internasjonal Spesial label, a handful of blazing mixes on the Cosmic Papers cassette tape series, and his debut for Beats In Space Records, the Nebula Sphynx / Parascopic Rope 12'. Ever the unsettled settler, Ruscha consciously crafted the bulk of Tactile Galactics' tracks at 120 beats per minute. Ruscha played with the equalizing value of this boilerplate dance music BPM in much the same way a DJ might — to set a clear course for transcendence. Tactile Galactics is derived from a dance lineage promoting feel over form; rhythmically explored without abandon — or audience — in mind by the krautrock fringe, put to the slow motion disco test at Daniele Baldelli's Cosmic Club, jacked into a House format via the Chicago imprint TRAX and honored today via peer psychonauts like Hieroglyphic Being and Lindstrøm. Tactile Galactics unleashes the lysergic choir of voices in Ruscha's head against a dance grid, but makes sure it stays in soulful step. For the first time on a Secret Circuit recording, these voices are quite literally present via Ruscha's own vocals, added when 'the song called for them.' It's by this same regard of the powerful unknown that makes Tactile Galactics Secret Circuit's most incomprehensibly detailed and stunning release to date.

12 months after impressing with their frazzled Balearic rock debut, Dinosaur
Zappa and The Visitor Paul Murphy, Alex Searle and Quinn Luke resurrect their
Paqua project for another spine-tingling trip into kaleidoscopic rock territory.
'Late Train' is a decidedly dubbed-out West Coast rock epic - two parts low-
slung dub-disco, three parts stoner rock, and four parts wide-eyed psychedelia.
It ebbs and fows over 11 undulating minutes, sounding like a long lost '70s
prog rock gem produced by the Idjut Boys. It's a bit of a stunner, all right.
'We Are What We Are' offers some respite. Fusing sparring guitars - electric
and acoustic - with a loose, baggy, organic groove, it's an effortless blast of
summer sunshine. While decidedly Balearic in nature, it owes more to classic
West Coast rock than White Isle electronica. As you'd expect from Claremont
56, it's perfectly pitched and more than a little wide-eyed.

Timelines' is the new LP from British house producer Luke Solomon and it will be released via his and Derrick Carter's Classic imprint in May in a package that features the LP, a selection of remixes and a mixed bonus version.
Luke Solomon's influence on house music has been strongly felt for many years. As a DJ and promoter he pioneered mid-week London clubbing with his legendary Space night alongside the late, great Kenny Hawkes. As a producer he has constantly delivered original, often idiosyncratic and always unique house music (and beyond) for an enviable list of imprints. As an A&R he has helped develop many a career (Tiefschwarz, Freeform 5 and Isolee to name but a few) with The Classic Music Company and continues to do so with Classic and his new role as one of Defected's A&R team.
'Timelines is an album that I have been making and remaking over the last 6 years.
I started work on it off of the back of The Difference Engine (Rekids), my last LP under my own name. The idea was to make the album part of a trilogy, this one being representative of my more Balearic roots. The original version that was completed fell on deaf ears quite considerably and it became a bit of a sticking point for me.
I decided to put it to one side and in the process started working on some other music, which in turn, helped me stumble across a new sound and production technique. The initial idea was to work on a series of songs that represented significant points in my life, but lyrically and musically. It then became more relevant to the 6 years of writing and producing the album. A lot of shit happened, and I was able to pour it into finally completing the album. I then decided to keep the album guarded and close as it had become that personal. I didn't want the album to be effected by opinions of those that were too close to me and the music.
What I ended up with is something that has come straight from the heart. Made possible by joining forces with a whole stack of talented musicians and singers over the last 6 years.'
Luke Solomon
Timelines', even the incredibly humble and self-effacing Solomon would Agree, is his best work to date. Featuring vocal contributions from Jon Marsh, Natalie Broomes, Terry Grant and Tiger Tiger, as well as musicianship from Arthur Jeffes (various keys), Andy Neil (guitar and bass), Martin Radford (strings), Sammy Bishai (Violins) , Chris Storr (Horns), Steve Parry (Horns), Anu Pilai (Guitar/bass), Tom Bailey (Guitar) and Danny Harrison (Drums), 'Timelines' is so much more than the usual house music album, it's one man deftly controlling and mastering his very own musical chaos.
Luke Solomon's 'Timelines' is released on Classic mid-May 2013.

Two years on from the release of their remarkable debut album, 'New Moon', Almunia return with a second full-length of chugging psychedelic dub disco, shimmering acoustic grooves and spine-tingling Italian Balearica. Decidedly less heady than its predecessor, 'Pulsar' impresses with its glistening guitars, touchy-feely textures, ocean-blue chords and otherworldly atmospherics. Along the way, there are tracks that variously sound like Cos/Mes jamming with Pet Metheny ('The Magician'), the Idjuts locking horns with Mudd ('Ode To Mum'), classic Scandolearica (the Lindstrom & Prins Thomas-ish 'Pulsar'), Peter Green on valium ('Views From A Blue Train') and a lost Fleetwood Mac track ('Secret Marriage'). Laid-back but steady grooving funkiness, with nocturnal counterparts delivered by Kyodai and Opolopo.
After his acclaimed split single with KINK on Hamburg's Liebe Detail, Barcelona-based Pablo Sánchez lifts his foot off the pedal and shifts to cruising mode with the laid-back but steady grooving 'Out And About'. A funky rhythm section switching between shuffle and go-go, wah-wah guitars, a pinch of brass, nuff percussion, and fellow producer Ezel on the organ. Can you say 'summertime'
Killer remix action on this one: Berlin-based brothers Kyodai provide some delicious peak-time fun adding vocal snippets, a prominent piano, a rather impatient 4/4 beat and a people-go-crazy-on-the-dance-floor style long drum break. Swedish boy wonder Opolopo steps up the pace as well with a funked-up and slightly spacey house rework (nod to Parliament Funkadelic included).

Having wowed critics and crate-diggers alike with 2012's acclaimed Magik Cyrkles compilation, Psychemagik are now ready to unleash the follow-up, Magik Sunrise. TIP!!
Bristling with psychedelic, cosmic and curiously Balearic oddities hand-picked from the depths of their vast record collections, Magik Sunrise is, if anything, even more inspired that its predecessor.
For 'Magik Sunrise', the Kent-based duo has dug even deeper into the dusty corners of their record vault, deep in the Cosmic Forest. The result is another inspired, 15-track
collection that gleefully skips between all manner of forgotten gems and little-known nuggets, occasionally stopping to acclaim an otherwise unknown track or artist.
Off-kilter African reggae (Max Adioa) nestles side by side with eyes-closed deep-jazz funk (Rob Mehl, George Oban), while the stoned, Balearic prog rock of Jeff Liberman jostles for position with the Steve Miller Band-on-valium goodness of Fox's 'The Juggler'. Then there's the Roxy Music-ish grooves of Joey Newman, the drifting new age ambience of Iasos (whose 'Formentera Sunset Clouds', from the 1975 album 'Inter- Dimensional Music', is a highlight) and the folksy bliss of Yves Simon. Artists originally ignored first time round, such as Daniel Mathieu, Cherubin, Susana Estrada and Steve & Teresa, are given a place in the spotlight. In fact, Leng spent a
considerable amount of time tracking down each artist, allowing them to tell their stories, give the inside history of each
Given that Magik Cyrcles was widely considered to be one of the best compilations of 2012, that's some feat. That collection garnered praise across the board, appearing in the end-of-year charts of Rough Trade, Juno and Piccadilly Records. As if that wasn't enough, DJ magazine also described it as 'f***ing great!'
The public seemed to agree with their assessment. The limited-edition gatefold, double-vinyl edition of the collection sold out within two days and now changes hands for upwards of £50 on Discogs.

Originaly only released on MC in the 80's, African Shakedown proudly presents a rework of Ata Kak's underground classic "Daa Nyinaa". First time on vinyl and now brought to its full sonic potential, this track will definetly shed some sunshine to the dancefloors.
Alongside this heart warming boogie-proto-house anthem comes a Cover/Dub-Version of 60's classic "Iko Iko" by Noema, aswell as a re-mastered version of "you can't change a man" and an Anson edit of "Mombasa".

Italian producer Moplen teams up with The Reflex to share a track each on a transparent 10". Both acts re-jig classic disco and rock gems, with Moplen taking to '70s Philadelphian disco quad First Choice and their track "Let No Man Put Us Under", while The Reflex tinkers with The Clash's "Rock The Casbah". Where First Choice's original may be more about people-power and self determination, Moplen gears his remix directly for the dancefloor with re-swung drums, guitars, bass and First Choice's infamous everyday of my life vocal (used to great effect in Sepalcure's 2010 Love Pressure EP). The Reflex boldly revises a Clash classic, with a specifically engineered four-four drum beats dominating his casbah riddum, which is totally rebuilt from the groups original 1982 hit.

Disco Bloodbath Recordings latest is the debut solo release from one of the founders and original residents of the Disco Bloodbath clubnights, Dan Beaumont - formally of production duo Jam Factory and the man behind London venues Dalston Superstore and the newly opened Dance Tunnel.
'Reality Checkpoint' is an atmospheric mid-tempo house chugger based around judicious use of samples and a slight dub-reggae sensibility to the groove. The original is accompanied by two alternate versions - one from Neville Watson, which pushes the track into club territory, and one from Dan himself, which strips things back, further accentuating the track's dub overtones.

Sunkissed Recordings' latest offering features four Balearic gems from the incredible Grace Jones. One of the faces of the original Ibiza party scene, Grace spent many a debauched night partying hard on the island and her music was as influential on the original Balearic scene as it was in the New York disco underground. First up is the amazing Tom Moulton 12' version of 'La Vie En Rose' - a slo-mo sensual disco masterpiece that became an anthem at Ibiza's Amnesia. Next up is the extended 12' version of 'Feel Up' with a fantastic groove that filled floors from the Paradise Garage to Pacha. On the B side, we get 'Nipple To The Bottle' another stunning Sly & Robbie production that found favour on the Balearic dancefloors and last but not least the extended Larry Levan mix of the party classic 'Pull Up To The Bumper'. You need this!

Mr. Munk is back! Having released nothing since 2 years - now he comes back with Misterio: an ousider house bomb that sounds like the perfect follow-up to his last album's hit La Musica. Misterio starts like a "normal" house tune. Based on fat house drums and a catchy bassline. But after the intro it turns into crazy new wave funk. New York early 80ies style. Fucked up guitars and a guy shouting in Brazilian, Spanish and English languages.
Mat Munk (aka Gomma records' co-boss Mathias Modica) recorded this tune last summer in Berlin and Porto Allegre/Brazil. The voice comes from Brazilian DJ Gab Cevallos. The track has been mixed and co - produced by Mark Ralph. (Hot Chip, Jamie Jones)
Also the remixes are the bomb! Severino from London's Horse Meat Disco made the perfect summer dancefloor shaker. And PBR Streetgang's Bonar Blackberry's version is perfect for fans of the new UK House vibes.
This single is great! Greater! People will scream. Promise!

On the first Editions Disco release in many moons, Prince Language brings it with 'Stay Up', an anthem for the late-night crew. An early-80s midnight music video staple is teased and extended into a menacing and funked-up groove bomb that will have you running for your nearest horizontal mirrored surface. An ominous, pulsating drone over driving drums builds up before giving way to angular guitar funk, dubby piano fireworks and a bassline as insistent as that numbness in your teeth. A chorus of 'up all night... stayin' up all night' let's you know what time it is. But you probably shouldn't know that when you're still going. Editions Disco never sleeps.
On the flip-side, NYC storyteller Lee Douglas brings us an epic extension of the classic live version of a smooth guitar god's 'On Broadway' - but there's nothing silky about this one. This is a foot-stomping workout complete with rousing crowd noise, a relentless piano riff on top of a handclapping groove that refuses to quit, and guitar pyrotechnics that all build to a series of chorus-teasing climaxes. Gutbucket disco, and late-night workout of the highest order.
Both cuts are pure gold - choose your weapon, DJs. Already getting support from the DFA crew, Lovefingers, Mathieu Schreyer of KCRW Los Angeles, and Justin Miller just to name a few.

a/jus/ted is the musical concept of veteran producer Justin Strauss & analog aficionado Teddy Stuart, better known as Eddie Mars, & since coming together in 2012 the pair have crafted some lush, synth heavy music. Before then they had impressive careers: in the case of Strauss, remixing & producing for some of the biggest acts in the States from a range of genres, & for Stuart it was producing his own disco fried sounds for UNO NYC.
The original version of 'Stay Up Here' is an emotional ride on top of a simple but evocative bassline with neon synths & delicate melodies all swaying infectiously. The sweet, whispered vocals from Miss Bee (who has sung for producers including Needwant's Mario Basanov before now) inject a certain steaminess & the whole track oozes cool.
As well as a dub, one half of PBR Streetgang & something of a man of the moment Bonar Bradbury also offers a remix. His version is sympathetic to the original but features a more degraded, apocalyptic bassline & sharper, more prominent claps. Finally, Golf Channel's nu disco favourites The Rhythm Odyssey also turn in a remix. This version twists & turns & is much more purposeful & electric. Pixelated synths rain down the face of the track & an anthemic piano breakdown really sets the whole thing alight.
Another fine A&R stroke for Southern Fried, this release will surely propel a/jus/ted to the next level.

It's always a pleasure when Sare Havlicek brings something to Nang HQ and obviously, this single is no exception! 12 inches of disco groove served up and ready for the masses. This time Sare has not come alone though, 'Insinuations and Allusions' has been called upon for some serious remixes, featuring the likes of Inigo & Dan Solo; Copycat & Martin Brodin; Tiger Cubes and Sasha Kojevin, you can bet on a seriously heavy release.
The original mix roles straight out from the needle with subdued nu-disco tones that gradually benefit from the enhancements of the funky guitar stabs. The mix has a steady groove that is a subtle back tone for those sunny summer afternoon parties.

For lovers of house and techno, Noir should really need no introduction. Unquestionably one of the most talented electronic artists in the world, through his highly energetic DJ sets, sublime productions and acclaimed label Noir Music he has tirelessly built a reputation as a leader in his field.
Notable releases include his collaboration with Haze 'Around', the Solomun remix of which has been the undisputed deep house anthem of the last 18 months, demonstrating Noir's exceptional ear and propensity for being ahead of the game in nurturing world-class talent. This has since been cemented by signings such as NICe7 and Hot Since 82 to his label, proving his skills as an A&R are of an equally exemplary standard to those as a recording artist.
Here he drops two brand new remixes, both of which can be found on his upcoming Noir In The House compilation, released 28th January on Defected Records.
First up is his reworking of one of the biggest Ibiza bombs of recent memory, Intruder's unifying 'Amame'. Stripping things back to a bare, hypnotic groove, Noir allows the unmistakable vocal of Jei to float silkily over the raw percussion and twisted stabs of synth, creating a darkly persuasive record perfect for those deeper moments.
Noir then heads further back in time, plucking Jason Jink's seminal 'Your First Time' from his dusty shelves and smartening it up for today's dancefloors. Heavily beefed drums and skittering hats add a distinct new dimension as Noir preserves the driving bass and sultry vocal. For lovers of the original record, this version offers the perfect update while simultaneously introducing it to new fans across the world.

Limited remastered reissue of Bagarre's cult classic New Wave Italo disco LP 'Circus'. Originally released back in '82 on tiny Italian label Sauvage Musique, this amazing LP which features the wonderful left field vocals of Ann O'Rack over some killer italo disco grooves has become a real collectors item and is now hugely in-demand.
Standouts include the superbly melancholic and sleazy 'Dirty Love', oddball gem 'For Your Pleasure' and the excellent disco version of 'Lemonsweet', but the whole LP is great and a worthy addition to any collection. Top stuff!

Young gun Kitt Bang became a famous Munich resident DJ over the past ten years, most notably for his sets at Zombocombo freak-theater. The old dog Enne has spun and produced records for nearly thirty years. He's created and remixed tracks for labels like Compost, Permanent Vacation, Nang, and Tirk. Enne is also a member of the acclaimed Electunes band Mohear. The combination of these two DJs should probably result in a generation clash. But, instead, they're creating cool sounds that touch on the 'retro' while bringing in the 'new' for a decidedly timeless dance music style. Their dance music is funky and weird, born from plenty of hours of sessions utilizing classic, analog gear like those of Moog infamy. It's a step beyond the usual nu-disco glut ...; quality sounds from qualified sound-makers.
Support by Makoss (FM$), Soft Rocks, Irregular Disco Workers, Hardway Bros, Aromabar, DJ Rocca (Ajello), Laurent N., etc.......

t's been a long time coming for Goodwill Gumede. The South African singer and musician has been working on his material for over six years under the enigmatic moniker EnaWadan before finally exhibiting his productions to a worldwide audience (thanks to Sonar Kollektiv's signing). The spirituality of his alias (which means literally translated "I
am everything in anything") can also be heard in his creative output. His African background and heritage looms very large in his approach to produce contemporary dance music. But don't try to limit him to his sophisticated rhythm structures.

DJ Rahaan features twice on the sixth edition of the Grimy Edits series, supplying his own edit and a collaborative piece with Zernell. Rahaan's first edit, "Rebound", booms with beats, as hands to the ceiling vocals wail above a grooving bass and slicing hats. His second edit, "What!", this time with Zernell, falls somewhere between a disco-mashed version of Myles Davis, Shaft and something from a Guy Ritchie soundtrack. Tim McAllister drops the third and final edit in "I Need Help!" employing James Brown's funkadelics to a horn stabby and danceable jam.

There once was a scene up in Boston, where things weren't nearly so awesome. So the kids went to Cambridge where people have knowledge and there the dance music did blossom!
Five years after our infamous Dancing on the Charles outdoor parties helped put Boston on the dance music map and launched our careers into the stratosphere, we're returning to our roots on the banks of the Charles River. Soul Clap presents: Dancing On The Charles is a part of the Boston dance music story that shines a spotlight on our hometown and unearths some incredible talent. Born from the same spirit and philosophy that has so powerfully shaped our DJ sets, this is a musically diverse compilation of artists held together by geography representing the wide spectrum found in our hometown.

Sometimes you have to look backwards to move forwards. In the case of Maceo Plex's DJ Kicks mix, it's case of looking back with a different perspective. While Maceo Plex's mix is composed mainly of records that are up to 20 years old, it's the tone of those records that is important.
Eric Estornel, to use Plex's real name, has certainly come up with a forward-thing set that doesn't sound like much else out there.
'The whole mix is very dark,' agrees Estornel. 'But it's very varied as well. It's really boring to stay one style. If you're a lover of music, you don't love one style. I think it's important to travel through different styles.' The end result is an education, a lesson in how electronic music for the dancefloor is done with intelligence.
Crucially, Estornel has re-edited nearly every track on the mix. 'Most of the tracks are really old, so they needed freshening up,' he says. 'A lot of them were missing percussion, or some other element I thought they could use.' I went through my own stuff and previous DJ Kicks mixes. Y'know, research. I think it is the most important mix series so I wanted to make sure it was music that I really loved and I want to hear in five or ten years time.
But isn't it a bit of a contradiction, trying to bump electronic music out of a retro rut by looking to a different set of old records. Estornel reasons it thus: 'A lot of the music on there is old, but basically has the sounds and the type of vibe that I think is missing these days. I went through a lot of new music. I didn't want to select anything that everyone is playing at the moment and I definitely didn't want to select anything that was already out on digital. The whole mix is comprised of vinyl only and is not going to be out on digital other than the DJ Kicks mix. To do that I had to go through a lot of new music and a lot of old music, and there wasn't much new music that I really loved.
In time-honoured tradition, the mix contains a massive 10! exclusive tracks, the lead kicks track bing Galactic Cinema, a muscular and suitably off-world house chug. 'I'm kind of known for a couple of big disco records and some really deep bassline house tracks, but that track much darker, but still pretty sexy and soulful. The whole thing is dark and futuristic. This mix is kind of my legacy, or, at least, part of it,' says Estornel, by way of a parting thought. 'In ten or twenty years I'm going to want to go back and listen to this mix and I hope it's still fresh.'
Who knows. It sounds pretty timeless right now, though.

After causing mayhem in the hands of a select few dj's, and rising to anthem status at Andrew Weatherall & Sean Johnston's mighty A Love From Outer Space, Logan Fisher's edit of "Walk The Night" is finally getting a vinyl only release on his Haules Baules imprint , accompanied by a mind altering acid interpolation remix courtesy of the aforementioned Mr Johnston in his Hardway Bros guise.
So it's HB on HB action, as Haules Baules open proceedings on edit duty, ruthlessly stripping the original of it's Glam tendencies, and refocusing it into a throbbing slice of camp, disco menace.
Sinister synths, sweeps and delays fuse with the original leaving you swaggering about on the dancefloor like Gary Glitter on Ketamine.
Sean's been banging them out of late, putting his now signature Hardway Bros sound on mixes for Alien Alien, Ajello and The Asphodells.
Here we see one of his most established efforts yet, taking Creeper down into cavernous EBM dub territory. Pulsating leads, teasing chants and a distorted vocal guide us to it's brooding depths, before our voodoo hips succumb to the unstopable Hardway Bros acid wiggle. Look out, take care cause Creeper's most definitely gonna get ya!
Vinyl only, hand printed sleeves. Get on it!

Emotional Rescue is proud to reissue one of Germany's best - if most underrated - collectives Dunkelziffer. Formed of Dominik Von Senger, Reiner Linke and Helmut Zerlett, the floating line up also included contributions from Can's Damo Suzuki and Jaki Liebetzeit, as well as The Unknown Cases' Stefan Kratchen and Reebop Kwaku Baah. This true "supergroup", over a 6 year period, made 4 ground breaking albums that covered the classic Krautrock blend of heavy, repetitive drumming, intricate, overlapping melody and sonic intonation, but expanded it to include heavy dub, soul and jazz elements. This special Retrospection Obi Set is being issued as part of Record Store Day and features the three 12"s that will later be released individually.

The latest Emotional Response release provides something very special indeed, in the form of a new track from under the radar psychedelic rock musician Nick Nicely. Nicely has been making music from the 70s onwards, but his music has recently undergone something of a critical reappraisal, with the likes of Robert Wyatt and Robyn Hitchcock supposedly inspired by his work; "Wrottersley Road" provides the ideal entry into his music, a masterful piece of shoegaze pop filled with fuzzed out guitars and Eastern psychedelic tones. Remixes are provided by Invisible Hands, who provide a minimal 80's inspired electro-pop version, which comes saturated in radiophonic textures, and The Oscillation, who take the track into even more abstract ambient territory than the original, deep into a place where time seems to stand still entirely, drawing its rich textures out into infinity.
