Genetic Musicians carrying the personality matrices of their fallen comrades encoded into their synths, they know no fear or compassion, their instincts artificially modified for ultimate musical combat... code-named Kid Machine, Casionova and Flemming Dalum they operate without boundaries deep behind enemy lines. Watching, waiting, ready to strike at a moment's notice in any environment on or off-world... This is the first transmission decoded by our defence perimeter satellites into analogue format.

A self-confessed fascination with 80s Music and film scores from the same era..George Thompson has an ability to approach music with a strong visual aesthetic which is a common theme in his work, first apparent in his role as part of the duo 'Spectral Empire', alongside Kyle Martin. Spectral Empire caught our ear many years ago. with their sound that evoking a world of abandoned battleships, psychedelic fog and possession by dark forces through a maze of industrial beats, metallic drones and heavy baselines.
A trip to Dusseldorf in 2009 saw Thompson connect with the cities' currently vibrant electronic scene, with artists such as Kriedler, Der Rauber und der Prinz, Music Cargo and Toulouse Low Trax inspiring Thompson to continue his sonic explorations and push him forwards as a solo artist, under the 'Black Merlin' moniker. As 'Black Merlin', the brooding, dark, cinematic elements remain, juxtaposed by Thompson's obsession with late-80's FM Synthesis and expansive production of artist such as Trevor Horn and Blancmange. Black Merlin's first solo release was on Andrew Weatherall's vinyl-only label Bird Scarer in late 2012.

strangeness and harmony of the UK underground sound of the early 90s. We
are talking about the sparse dub mix on side 2 of the 12" single, machines
making mistakes and changing the course of history, the dark side of the
rave away from the neon and the white gloves, Future Four points the way to
the dimly lit corner of the dancefloor and makes you move.

After a recent discovery of boxes of old S950 and MPC60 floppy discs full of
sound sets dating back to the early 90s, all three tracks have been produced
solely on the MPC 3000 in Staffordshire, and in perfect unison of North and
South, mixed by Erol Alkan in London.

Amazing chance to get your hands on a limited repress of one of the proper holy grails of the funk genre. Almost impossible to get hold hold of, this 1982 album on the tiny US Chocolate Cholly's label is rammed full of bad-ass boogie, funk and early rap gems and until now has been a fiercely-guarded secret weapon of choice for any DJ lucky enough to own a copy of the ultra-rare vinyl original. A true definition of the maxim 'All killer, no filler', every track on the LP is superb - jam-packed with storming percussion, grooving bass and lilting flute lines (the Pied Piper's pipes of choice) - but stand-outs include latin-tinged funk workout Clap Song, spacey disco-rap cut 'Blow Some Funk This Way', cool groover 'Today Is The Day', and the P-funk rap swagger of 'Drummer Boy'. Essential for all boogie/funk collectors - you must own this!

DJ Rahaan features twice on the sixth edition of the Grimy Edits series, supplying his own edit and a collaborative piece with Zernell. Rahaan's first edit, "Rebound", booms with beats, as hands to the ceiling vocals wail above a grooving bass and slicing hats. His second edit, "What!", this time with Zernell, falls somewhere between a disco-mashed version of Myles Davis, Shaft and something from a Guy Ritchie soundtrack. Tim McAllister drops the third and final edit in "I Need Help!" employing James Brown's funkadelics to a horn stabby and danceable jam.

Touch Sensitive's debut single 'Body Stop' was one of the first tracks released on Future Classic, all the way back in 2004. Cloaked in anonymity it's cosmic vibes and Italo authenticity made it a cult favourite among discerning DJ circles from East London to Brooklyn. Re-emerging in 2006 under the Arithmatixx! pseudonym to produce a remix of (at the time) fledgling disco producer Mario Basanov it was later revealed both aliases to be the solo project of Van She co-writer and co-founding member Michael Di Francesco. Fast forward to 2012 and his third track 'Real Talk', a collaboration with Anna Lunoce, saw Touch Sensitive spend five (5!) months at the top of the Beatport indie-dance charts with what was universally recognised as one of the underground hits of the year.
2013 see's the release of his debut EP 'Show Me The Pizza Guy', previewed by LA super-producers Classixx in their mix for
The Fader and Triple J they affectionally cite that "The Touch Sensitive tracks are masterfully produced and ultra-emotive.
'Pizza Guy' transports me to running the final stretch of my high school x country races in slow motion."

The clock struck 5 a.m. when last summer your puzzled author could experience a pretty strange dancefloor-jamais vu in the very sense of the word. The Cómeme cavalcade had just returned from the beautiful Uckermark landscape to debut-showcase their finest Sternhagen Gut-session bits'n' pieces with boldly improvised performances, most likely to be described as Cómemian character collage kind of thing-acts. One of them characters was a young angelic mystery girl from Rosario/Argentina who had spent her springtime in Santiago, enjoying life. Months before, out of the blue, she had released a completely outlandish EP on Cómeme (008), already predating her nonpareil House style the European dancers were now about to witness live. Call me romantic but this was the sound for daytime norms no longer to apply. The room was bathed in a peculiar glow. There was something in the music I thought I knew but I couldn´t quite tell, since every signifier of your typical dancefloor showdown was strangely banished for the sake of constant change and movement. Much like a brave trip, this seemed a departure from all established comfort zones of House, a pretty disturbing new scale of (yes indeed) dancefloor deepness. I beg your pardon, of course Ana Helder herself would skip the preamble to put it way more briefly: - Poqui: I wanted to do something synesthetically luminous'. Eat me: the "Techno" track. It is done under the concept of a parallel present with an existentialist question.' - Berberecho: Once at night I was tired and this melody came up, also with the trashy bass line and the elastic band time feeling of the synths. Months later at Sternhagen Gut, Matias Aguayo played with me and we added some hi-hats, sub bass and toms to make it more danceable.' Let´s leave "Beatin PC' speak for its beating self and let "Voy a ver' recall the deranged Disco gods of nightly urban boulevard confusion.

Another storming, ranging EP from the New Yorkers: heavy-duty machine funk for the dancefloor, charged and swinging with old-school Chicago vibes.
The A-side house bobs from tearaway to discofied to rawly jaunty; the techno on the flip from dug-in and twisted to a more wide-open excursiveness.
To start, the soulful rug-cutter Down runs a sublimated tribalism beneath lovely, dubwise kick drums and sultry female vocal;
Heavy Skies is lo-fi funk, a stand-out; the bass and brilliant percussion-work of the title track crosses US garage with new UK styles (a little Joy O to its bottom end).
Discreet Time meshes vintage Chicago drum programming with the filtered house of someone like I:Cube; and to close, Plateau, a widescreen, experimental bubblers, with reaching FX'd synths and shuffling snares and hi-hats... perhaps their best yet ....

[cD] CD 3-4 | BLACK MAGIC - Freedom Make It Funky Color 1 On & On Strong Vocal Mix

Maybe the most visceral beauty of John Camp's music is how easily he moves you into the heart of it. Take, for example, 'All You Gotta Do,' a track that opens, sparsely - promisingly - with vibes atop a beat. In perfect time, Camp sets up a funk-heavy bassline that effectively drops the song down a level, making it a more muscular and, suddenly, fully formed track. A minute in, handclaps, glinting key dust, more funk-infused keys and rich vocals from guest singer Mr. Reed bring the song effectively to life. It's the pitch perfect intro to a recording that blends funk, R&B and a relaxed warmth into smoothly rendered, body shifting music.

What Camp does on that intro track, he somehow manages throughout this remarkably consistent, cohesive and satisfying debut release. The follow up, 'Micrhodesia,' reveals his ability to lightly touch upon jazz and quiet storm in his own deft way, distilling hints of '80s Herbie Hancock and late night R&B radio into a lustrous funk. 'Credit Default Swap,' is the most energetic track here, a song that straddles old and new without ever losing its footing. Even when Camp nudges the track's exuberance, the music still feels like it maintains an effortless cool. The closer, 'Uh Huh,' is a more laid back take, with deep-down bass and singer Mr. Reed guiding the soulful flow.

Though this is Camp's debut solo release and first offering on HAKT Recordings, listeners have heard from him before. Last year, he was featured on No Regular Play's debut album, Endangered Species, out on Wolf + Lamb. He also appeared on the track 'No More Time,' along with collaborator Michael Christopher, from the Zurich-based Cityfox label. And in April 2012, he was featured on a track from Double Standard Records, the vinyl-only imprint from Wolf + Lamb's Gadi Mizrahi.

Ruben Alvarez is one of the most sought-after names on the international house scene. 2008 and 2009was a whirlwind of success for Ruben thanks to his productions and remixes for leading labels such as Milk & Sugar or Urbana Recordings, reaching the highest positions on Beatport or Traxsource download charts (his production The Rhythm of Life , a track Ruben put together with his studio partner Rober Gaez for Urbana Recordings, )

Finally, Brad Vachal, flying solo without Eric Hedford on this outing, slows things down with a swampy, bluesy rock number.

After the success of the first three volumes, Musica Sol Y Mar are back with a fourth installment of Balearic Sound for 2013. The album contains tracks such as 'In Alto Mare' from sultry Italian singer Loredana Berte who delivers a killer piano-led groove that has been a summer favourite in the Mediterranean since its release in the early 1980s; the dope slo-mo Cosmic groove of 'My Baby My' by US soul singer Sue Ann Cardwell which was a big hit on the White Island as well as being popular with the Afro and Cosmic DJs in Italy. Jose Padilla's enduring influence is written large in the songs by Jevetta Steele, Malcolm McLaren and Alphonso Johnson - perfect to soundtrack a Café Del Mar sunset. Produced by Ariel Rechtshaid (Vampire Weekend, Major Lazer and Usher) in LA, 'Falling' is undeniably West Coast pop at its finest. Timeless and passionate. Seductive and smart. It's the sound of three very talented young sisters making music that brings together more than just the strands of their foremost influences. The original version is a melting pot of splendiferous ingredients. Prague Orchestral strings, Chic bass grooves, analogue keys, plucky guitars and the vocals of soul princessTahamenePark. She moulds the head-on Jim Kerr vocal lines into a slick, sultry, laidback treat. As with past Loudery releases the big orchestral break down is there, this time taking inspiration from the "City OfLight" Simple Minds version. The release features vocal and instrumental versions.

King Street Sounds celebrates its double decade-long love of House Music with one of its foremost heroes, Louie Vega. A milestone for both as Louie Vega won 2 Grammy Awards, been part of one of the most influential House Music production teams, namely Masters At Work, launched such monumental and groundbreaking projects like Nuyorican Soul and Elements of Life, release significant productions on his Vega Records, tour with his beautiful wife, performer and DJ Anane, as well as to this day, continuing to wow audiences each and every week around the world with his superb mixing skills as a live DJ. In this time King Street has also seen its share of successes, working with Louie and launching 2 sister labels, Nite Grooves & Street King, creating a catalog of over 1800 titles, a few mainstream chart toppers, and contributing to the early careers of some of the most world-renowned artists in House Music; namely DJ Pierre, Satoshi Tomiie, Cevin Fisher, Dimitri from Paris, Roland Clark, Blaze, Tony Humphries, David Morales, Danny Tenaglia, Kerri Chandler, Dennis Ferrer, Joe Claussell, and many, many others. Louie Vega and King Street have come together once again to mark the label's 20th Anniversary. This momentous occasion is marked by a double release on CD with an homage being paid to the Master at Work himself. On CD1 Louie returned to his lab and re-worked Dennis Ferrer feat Mia Tuttavilla's smash hit Touched the Sky, and has especially created his very own intermittent Vega beat original floor fillers, namely I, II, & III, which are seamlessly mixed throughout various segments. All of the selected tunes have slight peaks and valleys with mostly even keels and steady tempos, that tug on the swaying hips ever-so deeply. Other highlights on this comp include Jon Cutler's dub of Kimara Lovelace's Far Away, Mr.V's 5 Beats Mute Pass of DJ Roland Clark's "Have A Good Time," the Kerri Chandler Kaoz 6:23 Dub of Studio Apartment feat. Monique Bingham's "Found Him," the Teddy Douglas Re-Edit of Pastaboys Main Mix of Ananda Project's club hit "Where The Music Takes You" and quite a number of other notables. CD2 is 11 of the Best Of Productions and Remixes he did for King St over the years. From the classics, "Souffles H," "Cassio's Theme," and to the more recent "Touched The Sky," "Lovery" and many more. Since its spawning form the days of Disco and morphing and evolving over the years into its varied styles, House/Dance Music/EDM, once considered the bastard child of the music industry, never ever went away and with 20-years etched into music history, further proof that a label like King Street Sounds and artists like Louie Vega have surely stood the test of time.

Named in homage to the series of collectable football cards from the 1970s, the Rothmans label follows the inaugural Mario Kempes Release with another long-haired icon being given his dues in the form of The Harald Toni Schumacher Release, complete with another four tracks of chugging techno-disco. Emotional Response's Timothy J Fairplay kicks things off with "Off The Rails", an expectedly dark and tense piece of Carpenter-esque synth, while LWE writer Per Bojsen-Moller delivers the atmospheric techno of "Staying Late", whose rippling analogue bassline gives way to an unexpectedly funky breakdown. On the flip, Steve Cook's "Noah's Arp" takes things a Balearic house direction with its thick, filtered analogue textures adding some psychedelic colour to its mid-tempo grooves, while Emile Strunz's "Magnetic" adds some acid flavour to its low-swung, vocoder saturated Italo swagger.

From the tropics comes Whiskey Disco, a sneaky re-edit label bent on dredging the decanter for diffident dancefloor genius from latent disco perpetrators. It's loosely connected to Sleazy McQueen and his assorted cohorts.Whiskey Disco #18, Cut Me Gently by Beard In Dust comes from behind the iron curtain. On a recent tour of Russia, Sleazy McQueen had the fortune of meeting a friendly Moscovite with an excellent selection of re-edits gathering dust on the hard drive. From the stab-centric "it shouldn't work, but it does" re-edit of Grapevine to the cosmic groover, Revolution In Morder, the straight up boogie of Highest Mountain and the laidback ease of Can't Get Enough-- more than most, this really does offer something for all (groovy)
dancefloors.

Another fantastic compilation from Sunkissed featuring six incredible Afro Latin flavoured Balearic rarities from 70/80s Brazilian singer/songwriter Jorge Ben. A stunning selection of hard to find tracks that all found favour both on Italy's Afro Funky Cosmic scene and on the dancefloors of Ibiza and beyond. Standouts include the floor friendly 'Ponta De Lanca Africano (Umbabarauma)' and 'Energia Bom Bom' as well as the brilliant 'Falcao' only ever available before as an in-demand limited 1983 seven inch but all the cuts are essential and a great way to collect some of the best work by such a wonderful artist.

Reissue of this superb and mega rare 1984 12' from one-hit German beauties Saada Bonaire. Hugely in-demand by those in the know (with prices to match), this quirky trio of tracks was lifted out of obscurity by massive support from Cosmic DJs such as Baldelli and Beppe Loda and drifted around the Mediterranean becoming big on the Balearic scene too. Title track 'You Could Be More As You Are' kills the dancefloor every time with an icy vocal delivery underpinned by chunky synths, wild steel guitar and wonky sitar riffs driven by a great fat b-line as you'd expect from UK reggae star Dennis Bovell who produced all tracks on this 12. Over on side 2 we have 'Invitation', a superb grooving cut with a dark squelching bass hook and smoothly sexy vocals and last up is a weird and wonderful spaced-out dubbed-out version of the JJ Cale classic - 'Funky Way'. Don't miss!

A few years ago I took a journey to Europe searching for a new sound.

People along the journey had been telling me about this guy from Tropea, Italy called DJ Steve (named after his favorite musician, Stevie Wonder).
He's a butcher there by day, but at night he's the DJ at a club called Casablanca. I made my way to this tiny town in the south of Italy and found DJ Steve.
His 12 hour DJ sets opened my eyes. This guy was the real deal. He was playing dubplates, vinyl, cassettes, and reel-to-reel's. All special edits he had done over the years.
I couldn't believe what I was hearing.


In late November of 2011 DJ Steve finally made his first visit outside of Italy and came to New York. He came on my Beats In Space radio show and blew everyone away. It was one of the most listened to mixes of the year. While he was in New York, I was able to record in a few of the dubplates of edits he had done. Those recordings are how we arrived at the release of "DJ Steve's Special Cuts" series.
With this release we also started a new sub-label for Beats In Space Records. B.I.S. Records, Inc is for any of the edits or bootlegs we might come across.

Welcome aboard Principal Records, who debut with 'In My Mind' by 'thatmanmonkz' (whose recent EP for Tone Control has been making serious waves) affiliated act S&M (feat. Dnaë) - a deep, disco infused house release backed with a remix from Wolf Music's ever in-demand Medlar.
Principal Records is the brainchild of DJ/Producers Rob Fahey and Jeff Daniels, the former having previously released for Under The Shade and the latter a UK-Music industry veteran having held positions with the likes of BMG and Sole Unlimited.
S&M comprises Danimal Swainger (aka Daniel Swain) and Thatmanmonkz (aka Scott Moncrieff) who met in Sheffield's notorious muso drinking hole, Dulo.
Danimal had a history on the 'edits' scene while thatmanmonkz has developed a formidable reputation as Toddla T's cohort in the Small Arms Fiya imprint.

For 'In My Mind' the duo team up with Dnaë, a hugely promising vocalist hailing from Kingston, Jamaica and now based in the steel-city. 'In My Mind' is gentle, rhythmic house with afro-beat overtones and rich, deep house sensibilities. Skittering Percussion sits underneath warm, sliding chord pads while Dnae's vocal work flows beautifully throughout, complimenting the track's infectious bass perfectly.

The Crew Love is in full effect as Nick Monaco, Night Plane and recent Marcy Hotel regular John Camp deliver the magic on more remixes of 'The Alezby Inn', 'Ecstasy' and 'I Need Your Lovin' feat. 90s pop soul singer Mel Blatt. The 2012 debut album 'EFUNK' from Boston duo Soul Clap entered into unchartered territory, blowing apart the "dance" song format with their freaky sleazy surreal antics, 'EFUNK' fused the entirety of Soul Clap's past musical influence with super fresh execution. Here Wolf + Lamb Music further explores the debut by delivering a striking collection of remixes for three of the stand out tracks.

With 'The Alezby Inn' featuring The Genevan Heathen, a cover of legendary westcoast electro don Egyptian Lover, Soul Clap worked it with spaced out futurism whilst staying true to the mischievous charm of the original. In a major coup, Egyptian Lover graces the label as guest remixer of honour, stripping the track back to its bare cowbell funk ridden flex with dubbier undertones. Northern Irish garage/house duo Ric McClelland and Sean Grieve make a guest appearance for NYC's On The Prowl! Some of you might know Ric from Seven Music, NRK, Large Records, Night Drive...etc. Together they join forces for "If You Want / Move Back" with remixes by Giorgio Luceri and Club Silencio, both of whom have had previous releases on OTP (Club Silencio being an alter ego of Robotalco).
"If You Want" gets things moving with a deep house style layered with a big upfront bassline and super lush pads that are straight outta Detroit! Built to please big rooms in the early morning. A2 has Club Silencio showing his remix finesse by adding some organ key stabs in the "Gypsey Women" territory. Proper early 90's house vibes but still maintaining a modern edge.
"Move Back" shifts the mood toward a more disco feel with balaeric style guitars and laid back and groovey bassline. On the remix Luceri adds his music touch while keeping things driving with steady snare fills and old school drums.

original released in 1973 as Round D Minor from Augusto Martelli. Andrea Sartori cooks up a hunky contemporary take on Augusto Martelli's library-styled jazz-funk chaser "Round D Minor" from 1973, with a mighty extended Dub Mix from Fabrizio Mammarella. It kicks off with bursting bass-bubbles accompanied by a grand piano, gradually mutating into synthetic squeals. In round two sizzling hihats enters the race, joined by stabby rhodes more likely to come out of Chicago or Detroit than the Italian Autostrada. Finally a raw live-bassline sets the scene somewhere in the intersection where post-punk meets boogie, crosses over to jazzy deep house and then speeds off onto the spacedisco-highway, leaving a subtle smell of burnt rubber emanating from your turntable.

During the 1970s Giorgio Moroder made Munich an Epicenter of Synthie-Disco. 'The sound of Munich' captured in a flash the world and suddenly Popstars appears between Viktualienmarket and Sendling Gate during their leisure time.The general southern lifestyle is our driving force and not temporary fashion phenomenas. Beergarden on Sunday is still the cozy alternative to endless afterhours up in the northeast. Macchina Nera an mysterious alpine character already gave a guest appearance at PAM 15.5 besides the label boss Anette Party. Now it's his turn to rev up. And you just hold his Debut EP in your hand.
Here the super chef mixes up what came under his nose in the last decades. House tunes, a sirens voice that even would have made good old Sylvester jealous together with an ass moving groove that bring every Epic-O-Meter to explosion. The inherent romanticism of Italo Disco has always lent the genre a more esoteric edge, and with this Cyber Dance release, Antoni Maiovvi seems intent on creating a narrative that cannot be contained by a simple dance track. This is not to say that both "Impulse" and "Requiem for Clarence Boddiker" are not suited to club play. They both pound down with that staccato urgency, and equally rise and fall through moments of intensity and serenity. It's just that, at 12 and 11 minutes respectively, both sides of this record have ample room in which to tell a more involved story.

With two massive reissues from Suns of Arqa and Jaki Whitren under their belts, the fledging label Emotional Rescue have come up with the goods once again, with this remastered reissue of incredibly rare 70s psyche-funk from Bob Chance. Two versions are included: the original 7" version, driven along by a razor-sharp guitar riff and sweetly lamenting lyrics, topped off with weird cosmic synths and galloping rhythm. However, the real gem is the edit entitled "Wild It's Broken" which sharpens the focus of the guitar and adds some serious kick to the drums to create a beefy counterpart to the new age original.

Psychemagik's 'Lunar Escape EP' is their first original studio EP, 3
diversely eclectic tracks, no samples, no edits, all tracks written and
produced by the duo and has been released to coincide with their February
2013 USA Tour.
The opening track ,'Where Are We', is a full frontal cosmic odyssey, with
chainsaw arpeggios, delirious disco basslines, with beats that would crash
meteors, bugged out vocoders and synth lines that mesmerise, this epic cut

Psychemagik have said 'we had fun mixing up genres and exploring a more

The climax of a lunar escape is when you break through the clouds on your
ascent to a new atmosphere. On 'Above The Clouds', the EP's final track,
Psychemagik employed a 17 piece orchestra in Air Studios to help them get
their point across, working with the talented string arranger Richard
Chester.

Although Running Away is the undeniable star, on the flip 'Can't You See Me' is not to be sneezed at either - a summery cool groover with sweet vocals and a breezy Brazilian feel. Lumberjacks In Hell score a real coup here in releasing the "Chante vs James" edit from Chicago based DJ Hugo H; a long term weapon of Rahaan, it's been embraced ahead of release by the likes of Soul Clap and few could deny the instant appeal of it. Deftly cutting up some prime fonk from James Brown and the accapella from a late 90s Chante Moore's slow jam, it's the epitome of bumping Chi Town house. Hutchinson gets a further chance to flex his timeless Chicago style on 2 more tracks that apply the same equation of drum heavy rhythms with infectious vocal hooks and slick melodic turns. "Moments of Dance" is particularly beguiling in its execution.

After a short hiatus, the highly sought after Hot Natured Re Rubs Series is back. Forth in the series features four great re-edit's by Jamie Jones, Lee Foss, Miguel Campbell and Richy Ahmed & S.A.S.

Here is another seminal Chicago disco record straight from the vault of Past Due records - Jerome Derradji Still Music's beloved Disco division.

The story behind this 70's disco hit from Lonnie Givens and Pick Of The Litter is more than impressive. Originally released on 7' by Mason Records around 77/78, 'Runnin' To A Disco' quickly became one of the first Chicago Disco classic. The track was an immediate hit and logically attracted the attention of Curtis Mayfield who tried to sign it (and Lonnie Givens) to Curtom Records. Unfortunately, the owner of Mason records refused, thinking this 7' will break the Midwest borders to become a national hit. That didn't happen and left Lonnie Givens frustrated and wondering about his ne xt move.

Lonnie Givens then decided to move on, literally, to Michigan where he quickly became a staple bassist for the legendary Westbound label. His collaborations where numerous and he was featured as a session musician on many releases by the legendary Detroit Emeralds.

In 1982, Lonnie was still bitter about 'Runnin' To A Disco' flopping so he decided to redo the track with some help from Westbound who created the label AIP exclusively for him. Lonnie then re-released his boogie hit, this time with vocals and a new title: 'The Heat Is On'. It was co- produced by James Mitchell Jr. and Marvin Willis of the Detroit Emeralds at the Westbound Studios.

For the first time in disco history, you can get all the remastered versions of this superb and rare boogie record on one 12'. This is Chicago and Detroit at its finest, courtesy of Past Due Records

Volume Six of the esteemed Sccucci Manucci operation sees the Tom Selleck of Disco flecked house rack up the air miles with an international cast of talent contributing. Contemporary disco connoisseurs should be fully aware of Gredits, the Swedish producer with previous on the Basic Fingers label; "Doing It Deep" does it right, seductively teasing out a killer looped up disco groove that gets more flirtatious with every listen. German dwelling Greek producer Elef takes us into classicist house terrain with the infectious bump and shuffle of "Lazy Liz", whilst a long promised Sccucci weapon from The Candy Dealers (aka Christian Malloni & Jay West finally sees release on the flip. Glaswegian Illyus returns for a second bite of the Manucci cherry with the late night dubby house goodness of "Movin House".

Part two of the Idjut Boys mixes on File Under Disco sees the legendary UK DJ and production duo drop a tab of acid in JKriv & The Disco Machine's orange juice.
With effects units set to stun and a course set for Acid Disco space...the Idjuts work classic acid house elements into these mixes to produce an effect as strong as any dodgy microdot.
And with the Disco Machine's authentic disco vocals riding and floating on top of this hybrid blend the result is a truly wanged out and rather devastating piece of dance floor magic. Pure Idjut style!

A-side 'Motorways' is a gem of a party starter - sounding like a classic smashed up and put together in the future with extra swagger, the infectious melody and quirky organ keys will hook the crowd while the kick drives and the melodic textures and acid synth lines build up with unbridled, bubbling joy.
On the flip, 'Space Coral' is a sound wall of futuristic bleeps and cosmic pastures with old school bassline undertones sounding like a tribute to Derrick Carter's Sound Patrol Orchestra while 'Cosmic Aroma' is a heady mix of warm floating pads and lively electronic keys.

Surahn is the newest signing to DFA Records.
His self titled EP was released last year on DFA and this new release takes the single "Watching The World" and places it in the ever-capabale hands of Norwegian disco legend Prins Thomas.
Mr. Thomas takes the song and flips it into one of the best, most delightful arpeggiated disco-pop 12" singles DFA has had the privilege of releasing.
Surahn was a founding member of The Swiss, a full time touring member of Empire Of The Sun and co-wrote with R&B superstar Usher on his latest album "Looking 4 Myself". His full-length debut LP will be our on DFA in 2013.

Judging by some of the records I see changing hands for staggering sums of money though, it's maybe not as easy as it looks. Perhaps seeing past the rarity of a record and actually liking something for its beauty rather than its value is the key. Perhaps being broke is a good position to be in after all. Whatever. I've said it before and I'll say it again, this album isn't about me showing off my "collection" (despite the use of the word "rare" in the title), it's simply my choice of as many good tracks as I can fit on a CD, most of which I hope you'll like as much as I do. That said, there would be no point in filling a CD with tracks that are obvious or particularly easy to find. So rest assured, you've saved a few bob, not to mention the hassle of hiding parcels from your wife when the postman comes, by buying this album instead of the individual songs.
One CD is just straight up music (I've edited a few tracks of course, but that just makes them even more "DJ friendly"). the other is a "continuous disco mix" which basically means it's the same songs without gaps. So you can have a party and just mingle without worrying too much about the music. Assuming your guests like obscure disco music that is. I'm trying to avoid using the term "DJ mix" because it isn't really. I made the mistake of selecting tracks that don't easily blend together, whereas DJs, as we all know, select tracks based on how long and how tightly quantised the drum intro is.
