The distorted essence makes it seem as if it was produced with the help of a cheap sampler and drum machine in some Chicago basement back in the days, but it's not. After pleasing us with loads of his disco cuts, HDSN is back with a more controversial record for our NBASTWAX005 . Dreamer' is a dusty four track beauty, that shows us another side of the young beat maker. Hot on the heels of their last outing on the label back in October, MAT.JOE are back on their regular MOTHER RECORDINGS label. This time the hot duo from Berlin delivers again an incredible 2 tracker HIT EP.
The first cut is "NIGHT & DAY", a slick and atmospheric affair with silvery and slithering percussive loops, house and rubbery drums and the sort of emotive vocals that really send crowds wild. Clever effects and lovely, glossy melodies and vocal chants add a summery, humid feel and all in all it makes for a sure fire winner.

sense of the word, Barrel is a sound obsessive with a penchant for knocking out quirky and unusual -but always enticing - house music.
From that perspective, his signing here to the Istanbul/Barcelona label, Petra Digital, is a snug fit. Flanked by some fittingly complimentary remixes by Hodini (of Max Graef and Glenn Astro's
Money $ex label) and Kerem Akdag (one of the Istanbul's most exciting new producers), this is a release that's characterized by good-time vibes throughout.
Opening the release is the sounds of the title track,'Rhyme Goes On', a discerning gem that metaphorically brings the listener to pastures new. An ethereal, dreamy cut, its dreamy soundscapes already has us longing of warmer climes. By the time the jacking vocal comes in to play, it's hard not to be charmed. Kerem Akdag's interpretation is no less emphatic. Akdag goes heavy on the synths, using them to give the remix its own sense of momentum. Pitching the vocal down considerably, he instead lets a stunning baseline and some clever
percussive tones lead the way.
The flip side kicks off with the other original, 'Recycling'.Clearly indebted to classic Dance Mania sounds, it sees Barrel deliver another almost effortlessly simple but devilishly catchy original. A majestic piece of peak-time house, it's rough-and-ready approach is sure to win it admirers aplenty. The release's closing gambit comes
courtesy of Hodini, who turns 'Recycling' on its head courtesy of an analogue-heavy jam that owes much to the dusty sounds of Moodymann and Theo Parrish. A gloriously melancholy cut, it's subtle but also striking enough to make an impression on the 'floor.
A classy example that sounds off an altogether exceptional release, Petra Digital's first release of 2018 is an an auspicious one indeed.

Julius is finally back on his own home Smallville with Along The Coast- it's the first solo 12' since his mesmerizing Flocking Behaviour album in 2014. After remixes for Telfort and Lerosa recently, a 12' together with moomin on his Closer label and some Smallpeople material last year plus a surprising non-electronic album with his band-project Tonight Will Be Fine (together with Abdeslam Hammouda) on Japanese label Mule Musiq, Julius is now back on his own imprint, delivering 3 deep cuts for the dancefloor. Next to running the Smallville record-store and -label, Julius started his own club-night and accompanied stamp-label Down By The Lake (catalogue number 03 is out now) in Freiburg, plus hosting the Smallville & Friends thursday at legendary Golden Pudel Club in Hamburg every month as a Smallpeople residency together with Just von Ahlefeld. They also put out record no. 5 on Smallville-offshoot Fuck Reality recently. Watch out for more good things to come this summer.. For VENT’s 19th release, Tolga Baklacioglu has collaborated with Ezgi Irem Mutlu and received remix support from both Julia Govor and Anastasia Kristensen, which has resulted in a rich and diverse EP that is full of currents and counter currents - drawing on each contributor’s vision and interpretation of the themes created by Tolga and Ezgi. The two have previously collaborated, and it is perhaps this that has allowed both artists to stretch the limits of their own personal expressions whilst remaining in touch and correspondence with the other. Tolga’s vortexes and knots of rhythms and textures are as disorienting and entrancing, as Ezgi’s diverse and intuitive range of vocalistic expression is mysterious yet straightforward. Julia Govor’s remix masterfully opens up the original mix of “Repentless” into a dramatic vista propelled forward by pulses of momentum coming from the bassline, while Anastasia Kristensen’s “Bir Vars” remix focuses on the suggestive elements of Ezgi’s vocals and reconfigures the dreamy and paradoxical original track into a dark and intense new experience. As a digital bonus track, Tolga and Ezgi offer a third collaboration, “A Very Slow Goodbye”, which together with “Repentless” and “Bir Vars” forms a triad of quizzical and dreamy tracks. It sits nicely between the two tracks and functions as a key to understanding the other two as the respective explorations of the outermost ends of the creators’ joint spectrum of collaboration.

Shortly after releasing his highly acclaimed 'The Benoît Pioulard Listening Matter'(Kranky), Pioulard left on tour to Europe in order to promote the album. This tour took him to several distinctive places ranging from urban Brussels to rural France and the mystic capital city of Iceland, Reykjavik.
Once returned to Seattle, these new impressions and memories formed the inspiration to make 'Slow spark, soft spoke'. Not surprisingly, the album continues in the same vein as his tour cd 'Lignin Poise' - which was repressed on vinyl by Beacon Sound - and is characterized by slowly moving lo-fi ambient textures. The album reveals Pioulards most melancholic side and once again shows his capabilities to bring beautiful sonic narratives with only a few instrumental layers.
The debut album from Erin Anne, Tough Love is an unruly yet elegant collage of all the elements that make up her musical vocabulary: wildly shredded riffs and lo-fi acoustic ramblings, punk-rock energy and folky austerity, new-wave whimsy and high-flown pop theatrics. With a narrative voice at turns thoughtful and rebellious, confrontational and shy, the L.A.-based singer/songwriter presents a body of work that bravely documents the slow and strange process of becoming yourself.
Co-produced with Alex Rogers (Family Hahas, Tambourines), Tough Love offers a potent introduction to Erin’s kaleidoscopic musicality and infinitely unpredictable guitar work. In bringing the album to life, the two collaborators drew from an earlier version of Tough Love self-released by Erin in early 2019, re-recording each song with live drums and Rogers’s lavish collection of analog synths. With Erin playing every instrument except drums, Tough Love bears an expansive sonic palette wholly suited to its emotional thrust—a state of mind she encapsulates as “standing in the doorway between presents you’ve grown out of and futures you’re afraid you’re too small for, and using music as the catalyst to take those steps into the unknown.”
An album charged with restless intensity, Tough Love reaches a glorious peak on its title track, a song initially informed by Erin’s experience in earning her Ph.D. in musicology at UCLA. “Being a woman in academia can be exhausting,” says Erin. “‘Tough Love’ started when I came from a day at seminar when I was trying to make a very simple point and couldn’t get a word out—I was incredibly frustrated, and tried to write a vaguely ’80s, “9 to 5”-style song that would feel good to Jazzercise to.” But as the track took shape, “Tough Love” eventually morphed into a massive anthem, a thrillingly cathartic refusal to let her voice go unheard.
On the track “Bedroom Track (Carrie),” Erin transforms sentences lifted from Carrie Brownstein’s 2015 memoir Hunger Makes Me A Modern Girl to deliver a “personal manifesto about wanting things—a very specifically female/queer kind of wanting.” The album’s hypnotic centerpiece, “Gaslighter,” which explores the confusion of abuse, is simultaneously jarring, mesmerizing, and oddly transcendent.
During her undergrad studies at Bowdoin College, Erin experienced a life-changing revelation upon viewing the Kathleen Hanna documentary The Punk Singer for a course on gender, sexuality, and popular music. “I grew up in New Jersey where everybody played lacrosse and I had very limited access to anything remotely queer, which meant I’d never heard of riot grrrl before,” she says. Not long afterward, Erin formed a riot grrrl band named the Navel Gazers, and began performing her own material for the first time. After graduating from Bowdoin, Erin moved to Portland, Maine, where she started a solo project called REGI RKT (a nod to a zine-making, feminist, street-hockey-playing character from the Nickelodeon cartoon “Rocket Power”), then put out an EP titled Vulnrubble in 2017. Her first release under her own name, the original version of Tough Love arrived in June 2019, and soon landed her a deal with Carpark Records.
In releasing her newly reimagined take on Tough Love, in all its frenetic grandeur, Erin hopes that the album might leave her audience with a sense of wholeness similar to what she found in its creation—an adventure she describes as “a journey to becoming a more comfortable self.”

Acclaimed imprint Disco Halal reveals their 1st 2019 release with Moscoman & The Organism collaborating on the 'Rite EP2 due Feb 8th! The project includes the titled track as well as the atmospheric blisters of 'Chumbai' and ercussive textures of 'Rubab', a track steeped in the Middle Eastern sonic influences of Moscoman's home country of Israel. Flipping the leading track on its head, the Disco Halal remix of 'Rite' is turned into a loopy, hypnotic edit suited for the oddballs. The EP follows Moscoman's recent remix of Three Drives On A Vinyl's classic anthem 'Greece 2000'. With truth at its center, the sound of 'Rite' RP is an open-ended prospect; a shared vision which Moscoman rounds off with his own Disco Halal mix of the opening production.
