Philpot and Pauls Musique Chief Tobi Ettle starts this year a new series of releases from young and well talented producers around the periphery of the label and record store. The range of musical direction will be very open minded but in general there will be Dub Techno, deep and minimal Techno as well as electronic beats with some Italo Disco and experimental approach. First is done by Steppin' Wolf originally from Basel and now staying in Frankfurt/Main. Before he was living in Stuttgart and he was frequenting the Pauls Musique record store always bringing updates of his latest production. Here he's now dropping a deep piece of Techno with several Acid splash and some kind of a Boards of Canada-Feeling". Watch out also for his current release on Kann's division Mana-All-Nite. Recording under different aliases, the Burrell Brothers were the backbone of Nu Groove, the New York label started in 1987 which took inspiration from Trax Records, both musically and aesthetically. This compilation collects the absolute best of the Burrell's output, and gives a valuable insight to the much overlooked roots of New York house music. It is now close to 25 years ago that Nu Groove began in a New York where the house scene was just starting to blossom. In the four years the label existed, it released over 100 records, famously putting out early releases from artists such as Bobby Konders, Frankie Bones and Joey Beltram. Nu Groove started by releasing records by Rheji and Ronald Burrell, and continued to do so until it folded. The brothers were scouted by the label after they had recorded a ton of material for EMI America that never came out. The Burrell's have always stayed under the radar, which has largely to do with the various aliases they used for different projects, such as Aphrodisiac, Equation, Houz' Neegroz, Metro, N.Y. House'n Authority and Tech Trax Inc. This release is a celebration of the work of the Burrell Brothers. The album includes a wide variety of their music under all their various guises. And despite their different guises, all the music they made always had a grainy quality to it, like house music with a sepia tint. The second part of the vinyl set features classic Aphrodisiac material, most notably the ambient-esque 'Song Of The Siren'. Another Ronald Burrell highlight here is the equally seminal 'How Do U Luv A Black Woman'. Alongside more N.Y. House'n Authority tunes, the Metro tracks included here are another testament to Rheji's love for deep Chicago house, plus the energetic 'The Answer' by Equation, which became a rave anthem in the UK in the early 90s.

RIYL THE CURE /KILLING JOKE/CHAMELEONS; Drab Majesty began as a warbled transmission received via 4-track cassette in a dim, Los Angeles bedroom in 2012. The entity known as Deb Demure, an interdimensional muse of sorts, lent an otherworldly vision to a human contact; one to be realized through meticulously composed lo-fi recordings. Focusing on the aesthetics of cult ritual and the devastating power of music, Deb sought an alternative way to share the cosmic agenda. Culminating in a cassette titled Unarian Dances, Drab Majesty's manifesto to humanity was revealed: revel in the power of artistic influences that reside beyond the self. The tape circulated through Los Angeles, catching the attention of local tastemakers like the heads at Lollipop Records in Echo Park. It quickly found a place on the shelves of LA's underground musical seekers. After a gauntlet of performances and late night manifestations, Drab Majesty came on the radar of DAIS Records.In 2015, Drab Majesty released Careless, the first LP which was received and recorded solely by Demure on living room floors and in cluttered spaces across the city. After three pressings and an imminent fourth, Careless remains a fixture in LA's somber yet sublime nightlife and a noted contribution to the murkier subcultures abroad. Wielding a left-handed guitar, Deb employs a unique style of arpeggiated finger picking, producing vast and organic musical textures reminiscent of Vinny Reilly (Durutti Column) with the anthemic power of Sisters of Mercy and Cocteau Twins. In the past two years Deb has been invited to support bands such as Cold Cave, Psychic TV, Clan of Xymox, The Frozen Autumn, Prayers, and label mates Youth Code and King Dude. From its incarnation, Drab Majesty was a solo act; an interplay between guitar and triggered machines. In 2016, with growing audiences and heightened interest, Drab expanded into a duo, employing the keyboard accompaniment of far-out twin, Mona D - filling out frequencies and upping the spectacle of the live performance.

South Florida's very own J. Albert and Person of Interest come together for Exotic Dance Records on this four-track 12" of certified heat! A1 cuts to the chase with the soul-inflected number "Thank You for Believing in Me": a slapping house beat carries a soaring vocal refrain through rattling percussion and fretless bass. A2 shifts into sexier territory, as an enticing brass motif dances on top of titillating pulses, punchy breakbeats and an authoritative bounce. On the flipside, Person of Interest's homegrown "Pompano Acid" trades melodious acid with sun-soaked oscillating piano stabs on top of a shuffled boom-bap garage rhythm. B2 track "Still" made an appearance in last year's Bronze/Palace Paramount video and here provides a nice finisher to Exotic Dance's inaugural 12".

Take Daniel Leseman's signature swing and loose arrangements, add a touch of Junktion's knack for jazzy chords and sampling, and you get Fouk. After a set of excellent solo releases on their own Outplay records and Slow Town, the duo now turn to Heist with a killer EP. Kill Frenzy's wobbling bass line might easily be a playful Dave Holland getting into his zone, and all the tiny elements and variations give Kill Frenzy that perfect vibe to really get a party going. Lefty's Bar goes a step further on the jazzy vibe, with the same loose percussion and vintage keys, a lazy horn section and a lovely twisted and turned female vocal sample filtering in and out. Ken sent me is perhaps the most straightforward track on the EP, with Rhodesy pads and a great use of tremolo to give swing to the 4x4 rhythm. To all of those that emerges recreated, stronger and full of life after a weekend escape into techno.
The label Bond is the brainchild of Swedish techno DJ and producer Petter B. The concept of the label is "music by DJs for DJs". The label focuses on releasing tracks that enable the DJ, rather than the producer, to be creative. It is based on that special bond which is created every time a DJ combines tracks, loops and sounds live into something new and unique.

We are back - bringing that raw and funky Garage vibe to vinyl & kicking off our artist series with a selection of original Underground Garage artists from back in the day - so who better to start off such a release with no other than an innovator of that scene and mastermind behind those Tuff Jam beats, Mr Karl "Tuff Enuff" Brown.

The A-Side or ( Tuff side) contains an unreleased special version of his infamous Intro's which has been sought after since the late 90s. For the second track, Karl Brown created a heavy, funky anthem called "So Good . The B-Side or ( Jamz side) will also consist of two tracks from Dub Jamz to celebrate the old Garage vibe, bringing back a sound we all love. 

This release cements everything we stand for with our label, simply Underground Garage - bringing back all the memories to the oldskool lovers of this sound as well as teaching the younger generation the roots of this Garage genre.

This year's version of Steyoyoke's 'Couple Affair' features four tracks created by a combination of two of ve label members: Soul Button, Nick Devon, Dahu, Animal Picnic, and Ran Salman.

Soul Button and Nick Devon join forces to create 'Modus', a heavenly techno imprint of a never-ending climax. Lessismore (formerly Lessismorecordings) was launched 10 years ago, and has been on hold for a few years. At the time the transition from vinyl to digital didn't feel right and now that the vinyl market is coming up again the love and faith to release a beautiful product (vinyl with cool artwork) is back.This 10 year anniversary is a good reason to revive from hibernation state and to start sharing great music again. The first few releases from the relaunch will represent re-releases of the strongest EP's from the back catalogue with remixes by respected artists.

The Alexis Tyrel remix of Estroe's Taxotere has a palpable energy which comes from the masterful fusion of pounding kicks and luminous synth stabs that swell and bulge out through the mix like bright flashes of summer lightning.

The Advent remix of MBC's Zeitlupe starts with a galloping synth that builds in intensity. Just as one is lulled into a "false feel" of the track, the synth part transforms into the syncopated groove of the original version. The track fluctuates between both patterns periodically. With several intriguing modifications of the main sound throughout, and with a pacey aggression, this track is both fierce and deep.

Gideon also remixes Zeitlupe and in his version the intensity is increased a little more. The main groove is prevalent again which drives this remix. However, the real profound sections are where the beat breaks down and yields to the resonantly electrifying lead synth which consumes all in its path. Conspicuously powerful and driving.

Once more on remix duties, this time Gideon interprets Alexis Tyrel's H for Hustler. Rhythm and percussion based, it exemplifies Lessismore's ethic - it is both fundamental and bold. Strong and steady machine like beats push the track along relentlessly while industrial scrapes grind away on top. The "Hustler" sample is sporadically placed but is still used enough to give a hypnotic feel to its use.

The original version of H for Hustler by Alexis Tyrel focuses on the basic elements that are at the core of timeless dance classics. The captivating and hypnotizing beat powers its way throughout. The "Hustler" sample is used rhythmically to great effect while the perfectly aimed machine-gun snares find their mark and are perfectly positioned to hold attention and build atmosphere where needed.

L/F/D/M squeezes off a volley of misshapen bangers and atonal wormholes in Music Without Discipline, making a mutant follow-up to his M Is A Shape (2015) LP and Crocodiles In The Ceiling (2016) EP for Alessio Natalizia (Not Waving) & Sam Willis' Ecstatic label.
For his third solo LP proper as L/F/D/M, the London-based producer/artist/designer jams, layers and hacks a clutch of new hardware toys, the Akai VX90 and Yamaha TX81Z in particular, into 11 variants of what is essentially a style of no wave or new beta techno.
Pursuing his taste for unique, visceral and affective electronic tones into odder integers of the club, L/F/D/M establishes a jagged line that runs from original '80s industrialists thru Larry Heard's legendary Gherkin Jerks and the scenius of Downwards' brummie radge packets to a place right between the eyes of 2017.
DJs and dancers will find full fat, wonky weapons ranging from the cranky-assed jacker Dance, You Awful Cunt, thru to a sludgy turn called Birds, a super-tangy Chicago percolator Texan Flower Girl, and the throaty acid gargle of Living Without Gain. But it's the way in which Richard Smith is just as happy to follow his nose into sparkling vignettes such as After R Version and Ballet, and into the grubby pits of Pinx that really gives this record its shape and asserts its messed-up character.

Following up the inaugural release by Glos, Escapism 002 is a mesmerizing two- tracker by one of Leipzig's most talented producers, Talski. He is part of the Institut fuer Zukunft crew, co-runs DUR Records and also performs rare live sets together with his friend Perm as PANDT. 'Soothsayer' shows why analogue production skills are still highly appreciated in contemporary dance music. By limiting himself to only a few machines, Talski manages to create addictive and reduced tracks that focus only on the essentials. This comes especially apparent on 'Soothsayer I' which although stripped back, builds tension, has atmosphere and is driving. 'Soothsayer II' is more evolved. Straight enough to keep people on the dance floor, yet with a fragile and melancholic beauty to it, that sticks with you long after leaving the club.

Silas Moldenhawer and Jonas Kenton, both children of the early 80s, grew up alongside each other in the tiny big city of Copenhagen. In their teenage years they discovered electronic music and this led them to start spinning records and producing tracks together. Years later they met two other talented musicians and formed well-establish Danish indie-electro outfit "When Saints Go Machine", but still kept on building Kenton Slash Demon as a separate project.
Now, four years after the release of their most recent EP Daemon, Danish production duo Kenton Slash Demon return with Skydancer, an immersive and intricate sonic interpretation of club culture that represents a new chapter and direction for the act. Skydancer I is a haunting 7-minute monster, with pitched vocals, industrial hats and a sinister central bass line. The second act, Skydancer II, provides a sunnier counterpoint with a nod to the UK rave scene with its broken drum patterns. This release represents the birth of WAA Industry, a new imprint helmed by KSD and visual artist The Emperor Of Antarctica. Skydancer I & II will be released on a one-sided 12" picture disc record in collaboration with Australian label Future Classic.

2014 has been a continuation of what was a very busy and successful 2013 for Midland. Having set up his own imprint, Graded, last year he has gone on to contribute to JD Twitch's Autonomous Africa project, a yearly charity release which raises money for different African Charities. This has been swiftly followed up by the release of 'Before We leave' on Phonica White - the label that fathered his first solo release. And it doesn't stop there as we welcome Midland back for the 'Duster EP,' out on 15th September. The secret to Midland's success perhaps lies in his ability to keep his listeners guessing; with each new release, a new sound palette is presented, always adding more colour to his catalogue. This new EP is no exception as this time he draws out immersive pads and understated melody over the top of percussive grit, in parts channeling some of that irresistible Autonomous Africa flavour.The release has already garnered support DJs and radio alike with Jamie XX playing out 'Reflex' on both his recent Boiler Room and BBC Radio 1 Guest mix, while another early unveiling of 'Pitch Drift' dropped recently on Benji B's show.

Keeping up their always busy and on point release schedule, Moon Harbour line up a brand new name for their second outing of 2016: Jey Kurmis is the man behind the Refresh EP, a three track affair that showcases the fine production chops that have made him one of the fastest rising UK producers out there.

Based in Leeds, Kurmis has a decade's worth of DJ experiences behind him. He uses all these to great effect when producing his floor filling, fresh house beats for labels like Hot Creations (in the form of his Kari and Lil'Nic French EPs), Phobic and Lost. Never short on energy and invention, his tracks fit in perfectly with Moon Harbour and he is a great new addition to the ever evolving Leipzig family.

Opener 'Refresh' is the most uptempo of the lot, with wobbly drums and icy hi hats making for a cool as you like groove that is loose, fluid and restless. It really will be impossible not to move to this one when dropped on the floor, especially once the slick rapped vocals bleed into the mix.

The fascinating 'De Greave' is a mid tempo cut with gloopy bass and weird little hooks making for an unsettling late night atmosphere. Expertly designed little flourishes flesh out the groove, as do filtered vox that will send the crowd wild. It's a patient, slow burning track but one that really gets under the skin over the course of is duration.

Last but not least, comes the more bold and physical house effort that is 'Fourtunes.' With bulky, physical drum kicks down low and big enveloping bass, it really sucks you in. Acid flashes and textured analogue lines add some raw energy to the groove and again it is a singular sounding track from Kurmis.

This EP proves Kermis has a fine sense of groove as well as a great range within his chosen genre, and it is sure to fly as a result.

Following his 'Tones EP' and his contribution to first vinyl only VA release last year Mano Andrei returns to the label with another stunning 4 track solo EP consisting of 4 stripped back solid dance floor grooves.

180 Gram Mono. Aptly named The King Of Soul, Otis Redding was one of the most influential singers in American history, as well as being synonymous with Soul. Before his untimely death in 1967 he released many of the genre's most important tracks while exemplifying the Stax sound. 'Dock of the Bay' was his first posthumous album released in 1968, as well as being his one and only number 1 charting record. The album is best known for containing Redding's most famous song, '(Sittin' On) The Dock of The Bay' which he co-wrote with legendary Stax guitarist Steve Cropper.
