Sam Kidel a.k.a. El Kid presents an extended drone work for the excellent Entr'acte label inspired by Henri Michaux's 'Untitled (Movements)' drawing. Located much farther out than his work with Killing Sound or the Young Echo collective, or even his numerous soundtracks for film, TV and theatre, the piece is based on two layers of synthesiser - one outputting the wavering, natural heat fluctuations of analogue circuitry, and another undergoing a slow and subtle metamorphosis. Pocked with collaged clippings of a modified guitar, the results recall Bellows' incredible crack'd tape loops as much as Eliane Radigue's microtonal works and Jim O'Rourke's prepared guitar pieces, fracking salty synth tones and quivering partials with jagged scree to patient, stealthily hypnotic effect. In other words - it's really pretty great and definitely one of the most interesting transmissions yet from any of the members of this already prolific collective

Sam Kidel's debut for The Death of Rave is a deft subversion of muzak's meaning, application and affect, employing government call centres as unwitting agents in a stroke of Cagean and Kafkaesque compositional genius. It's a remarkably innovative, emotive and incisive 20 minute sound piece (with an additional 20 minute version on the other side) that reflects and refracts an aspect of the modern world in a way that arguably few other records have achieved.
In aesthetic, Disruptive Muzak highlights a range of ambient, electro-acoustic and aleatoric composition techniques intersecting classical minimalism, dub and vaporwave spheres, all whilst revealing a spectrum of regional British accents commonly heard in call centres, yet seldom heard on record, certainly in this context
However, from other angles it's not difficult to hear Disruptive Muzak's tacit questioning of our relationship with music and technology, economics and socio-politics in the UK right now: in the midst of right wing policy delivering swingeing benefits cuts and zero-hours contracts which damage those on the margins
most, and a scenario where corporate composition and electronic sound form the blithely ubiquitous backdrop to capitalist realism.
By subtly but straight-facedly inverting the delivery and reception of muzak, Kidel subverts its meaning,
hypnotically suspending the listener in its lush, lingering sub bass swoops and piano motifs but, paradoxically beckoning the call centre staff and us listeners to pay attention to the subtext of what is normally considered background sound or noise.
Make no mistake, though: the artist is definitely not taking the piss out of call centre workers, if anything he's highlighting a dreamy melancholy and detachment in their tedious roles and tortuous systems, one known from first-hand experience. We really don't want to give it all away, but the way in which Kidel executes
the idea, both musically and conceptually by the time the final receiver drops the line, is little short of breathtakingly emotive and cathartic. Really not too early to call this record a classic in the making.
This piece came about during a research project into Muzak in 2015. The Muzak Corporation (recently rebranded as Mood Media) designs background music that can be used by businesses, factories, shopping centres or government offices to ensure that employees, clients and members of the public are upbeat and co-operative. Research by the Muzak Corporation found that Muzak must sound familiar, predictable, and
non-disruptive to be effective.
Drawing from this research, I composed a series of pieces that I call Disruptive Muzak. These pieces share a similar sound palette to Muzak, but their structure is less familiar, less predictable and more disruptive. To test these compositions I called up government offices that use Muzak in their telephone queues and played them down the phone instead of my voice. The music I played and the officials' responses were recorded and

The rise of Dutch D&B continues as Signal steps up to deliver his first EP for Critical's Systems series fresh off the back of his Binary Vol. 7 EP of last year. Once more Signal brings his deep, neuro sound to the fore delivering an EP of hard-hitting drum & bass ripe for the dance floor with special guests Disprove, Segment, Concept Vision and Phentix alongside.

Traxman, the originating Footwork DJ and Producer, is now constantly touring Europe, Asia, and the States. Member of Teklife and mastermind of Tekk Djz, he is most famous for his classic Da Mind Of Traxman series on Planet Mu. Also lately he has released some Ghetto-House tracks, too. There is a feature on UK's Albion Records and just another 6 track EP has been released on Berlin's Dizzy Tunes.

Split with two of the heaviest hitters in the field of noise techno. Belgium's Damaskin (also releasing as Seraphim Rytm) has been dropping noisey, abstract techno bombs on Unknown Precept and Concrete. He presents a long, deep track here called 'Signal'. Countered by upcoming Dutch producer CS2 (aka Core Shift), coming from a sound design and noise background, he focusses his sound on a hypnotic rhythm, slowly building a wall of sound.

This previously unpressed music provides and absolutely essential insight into Zen master experimental jazz outrider Don Cherry on the eve of his fertile Holy Mountain period which saw the composer combine all his well-travelled influences - such as the free music incubation of France and Germany with the traditional instrumentation of India, north and west Africa - then return to New York with a technicolor dream team and a healthy appetite for emerging synthesisers and electronic music. This project between electro-acoustic pioneer and Synclavier developer Jon Appleton coincided with his own history defining years at Dartmouth College where he played an integral part in the formation of one of Americas first electronic music institutions. Recording benchmark LPs for Folkways Records and Flying Dutchman Jon collaborated with Cherry to create the album Human Music which tested the boundaries of electronic sound, jazz and ethnological disciplines in a series of melodic and rhythmical interfaces that would polarise both musical tastes, pop politics and potential spiritual beliefs in the process.

Recorded in the exact same sessions at Bregman Electronic Music Studio, Dartmouth College, New Hampshire the two tracks Don and Jon did not appear on the Human Music LP and now show a glimpse of what future unisons might have bequeathed before both artists coincidentally re-located to Sweden to pursue their individual and very specific journeys into contemporary music. Released with the blessing and encouragement of Appleton himself this record is quite simply a treasure of a dream-combination from the early doors of genuine alternative popular music. These rare sides combine the creative technology that directly coincided with the dawn of Bob Moog's and Don Buchla's synthesiser revolution with the homecoming of outernational free jazz which, in tandem, spearheaded America's most radical music developments in the subsequent two decades and beyond. Don/Jon and The Human Music sessions also prelude Cherry's further imminent electronic positioning alongside Carla Bley and Don Preston (on Escalator Over The Hill) and in film soundtracks for Jean Rollin collaborator Jean-Noël Delamare and Jodorowsky's The Holy Mountain (with Walter Sear) before a hiatus from the for almost a decade. This extra glimpse of that important era, at the hands of these two pioneers, is now available in this very special package.

Felder is an infinite, boundless creation that unravels upon every listen. Werner has created sounds that are listenable and inviting, complex but approachable and, mostly, completely unidentifiable. 'Felder' means 'fields' in German, and here the word refers to conceptual frameworks and subjects, and sound fields. Werner is a cultivator — a farmer — of the various sounds, from metal scratched on a big glass window to piano phrases found on a private Popul Vuh compilation. He mixes organic sounds from French horns and cellos seamlessly with synthesized notes created with one-of-a-kind programs. Werner builds layers of sound with differing cadences upon one another, creating intricate patterns that connect with each other structurally, rhythmically, semantically, and historically. Suggestions of jazz, industrial music, drone and even folk float in and out of the electronic compositions in a seemingly effortless manner, paradoxically, Felder was meticulously constructed over the course of four years.
Werner's refinement process for the pieces on Felder was simultaneous with the lofty goal of challenging himself as a musician while still creating a record that is melodic and complex. Werner recorded the album in Marfa, Texas, Berlin, and around the world while touring with Mouse on Mars. Just as the album's creation and production cannot be tied to a specific setting or time, the sounds heard on the album have no clear boundaries. They are unexpectedly malleable and mutable. Context and perceptions play with sounds to yield a fresh new experience with each listen. Samples and instrumentals bounce off one another, starting from central points and radiating outwards. With so many new sounds to discover and new inspirations to be found, Felder is an entire new field of musical possibilities — a landscape that at first appears simple and beautiful that reveals its utter complexity upon closer inspection. The album is joyful experience for both the mind and the soul.

Carl Craig's Planet-E imprint turns 20 this year. To celebrate, as well as a world-wide label tour, Craig released a best of Planet-E compilation - entitled '20 F@#&ING Years - We Ain't Dead Yet' and is releasing a monthly remix release from the Planet-E back catalogue, where friends of the label choose their favourite Planet-E release and add their take on it.

Daphni (AKA Caribou AKA Dan Snaith) is up next, choosing 'Modular Pursuits' by No Boundaries. 'Modular Pursuits' was originally released as a vinyl-only analog synth project in 2010. Daphni takes the frenetic original and adds some bounce, soul and groove, allowing the mind-dance of the original to appear mid-way.

The Diabolical Liberties turned down nobody to put out a limited run of vinyl EPs. They remain at large planning how to scrape the off cuts of lost ideas and misplaced rants, from a dance floor where nobody can hear you no matter how loud you scream.
In the old industrial warehouses , down there bellow the sub bass. Down in Phorcy's kingdom of misshapen beats swimming in their own echo. The new future has already started. A darkness disturbed by the occasional flash from someone thumbing a device. It's then you see who's been dancing next to you for the last 2 hours.
Now you notice there's 'something in their motion', they been looking for the 'dance floors of England' . The 'sons of the bass bin' try shouting, 'hey you lets dance', but that doesn't disturb them. They just keep on with that 'get it off me' face, knowing 'this will change it', but feeling to 'wind up saint peter' on the way in.

Continuum emerges as acrystallised vision deploying sound to explore the spectrum of life, power and energy present in the universe. Creating a speculative soundtrack to a timeline stretching from the primordial emergence of organic life through to the unknowable trajectory of the universe, it explores the magnitude of science's reach and the precarious role of humanity within this vast evolving system. The compositions adopt the central premise of mirroring of celestial events, algorithmic action and cellular behaviour, fusing these with a defiant tonal grandeur and an ever-present sense of chaos.
The album sits at a meeting point of fiction, composition and philosophy, considering how the past, present and an unknown future could be consolidated and perceived on both human and non- human terms. Examining whether the conditions that support life and the digital and atomic mechanisms that surround it can continue to work together asone ecology in the face of dynamic and unpredictable change.

TROPY is a new musical project consisting of Artur Mackowiak and Bartek Kapsa of Something Like Elvis, Contemporary Noise Sextet, Innercity Ensemble or Potty Umbrella fame. They say their debut album, "Eight Pieces", was inspired by the experimental films by Pedro Fereira. The music included on the album can be said to constitute an amalgam of their previous musical experiences. The eight tracks seamlessly fuse elements of improvisation, psychedelic synths, jazz rhythms and noise-rock guitars. Even though each of the pieces tells a separate story, evoking unique moods and emotions, they definitely belong together.

Jaumet is back, but not alone: he asked 3 artists to revise music from his latest album La Visite. On the A-side, we have a brand new band from Düsseldorf, called Die Wilde Jagd. We know those boys from their previous band Der Räuber und der Prinz, released on Desolat, which is a favorite from everyone at Versatile. They deliver a surprising mix of La Visite, in pure Kraut fashion. Neu is not that far... On the flip-side, the Frenchman Low Jack turns La Visite into a dub marshland, multilayered as is typical for Low Jack's music. And finally, Gilb'R delivers his own ambient version of one of the highlights of Jaumet's album; Midnight Man, a tribute to I:Cube who used to come to the studio at night.

* UM019 is a single by Metalheadz, Dispatch and Critical artist Hydro, alongside some esteemed friends. Label boss Mako and Hydro since meeting in Paris a few years ago, have remained close and enjoy a shared mutual respect. Utopia are very happy to introduce him to our roster.

Aether Series is home for bass heavy and DJ-friendly experimental music and sound art. The first release of the series is Ikola's mini-LP titled 'Core', originally recorded for 'Machine Soul - the documentary film' soundtrack. The film focuses on pioneering Finnish electronic music artists such as Mika Vainio, Jori Hulkkonen and Jimi Tenor. The score is composed as a tribute to their work and is now released as an independent piece on vinyl.

Following releases on Osiris, Tempa and Cold Recordings, 'Depatterning' is the debut album by Ipman, set for release by Tectonic Recordings on 25th September.

* Jack Gibbons aka Ipman hails from the rural Herefordshire, a world away from the city-born influences that form his sound. Embracing the luxury of isolation, 'Depatterning' is compiled from two years of recording, realising a vision of Gibbon's passion for soundsystem music, rave culture and technology. A self confessed tech nerd, Gibbons built the record experimenting with granular and modular synths, rewiring drum machines and mangling sounds with hardware.

* "I like to create music by experimenting with new ideas and mechanics and letting tracks evolve, and this was no different. I had a pretty free reign and just tried new things and looked at the results."

* Lead track and recent 12" 'Regicide' repackages the mid-1990s jungle experience into 140bpm breakbeat science, 'IPA' gives a sly nod to the Hereford pub staple through jamming techno synths, while the trinity of '¥, Ø, Ü' sandwiches atmospheric ambience between Gibbon's takes on dark 2-step and crushing rave.

* The restless 'Last One In The In The' pays tribute to the all-night dancer "It's like that bloke who is there from start to finish, eyeballs popping out of his head, just dancing like a maniac all through the dance (we've all been there). I had an idea for a video for it about him but never got round to it. It'd be like the Inspector Norse video. But in England so gritty and depressing."

* 'Depatterning' demonstrates Gibbons' individual ability to seamlessly fuse sounds, textures and moods - from jungle to techno and everything in between.

"Most of the inspiration for the album came from purely wanting to make something my own. The challenge for me was to pin down a sonic and craft an entire album's worth of material out of it, which for me was difficult as I tend to get bored and move on quickly. It feels good to finally be able to share this."

Room40 present a trio of newly mastered recordings by Swans guitarist Norman Westberg, including a pair made and self-released in 2012, plus a new piece Lost Mine, to continue a fine relationship begun in 2015 with their issue of Westberg's expansive 13 album.

So titled after undergoing an MRI scan due to hearing loss caused by aural misadventure', the three pieces render coruscating scapes of a particularly scorched, strung-out and American ilk, that pay testament to 30 years experience playing with the one of the world's loudest, noisiest rock groups.

They are rolling, long-form, solo meditations on electric guitar and amplifier, rounding up the 15 minutes of ferric, almost ecclesiastically-charged air in MRI, whilst the 20 minutes of chinning top lines in 410 Stairs reveals a rich harmonic spectrum from a variety of delays and incidental room recordings, and Lost Mine sweeps us into the ether with a most sanguine 18 and half minutes of low-lying drones and thizzing, astringent and bittersweet timbre, apparently recorded as an echo of the processes that led to the original recordings.'ho of the processes that led to the original recordings.'

* Continuing an impressive start to 2016 on Dispatch LTD, our next instalment comes from the other side of the Atlantic, as Seattle based Quadrant collaborates with Canadian producer NC-17.

As new label launches go, none have been quite as impressive as Cyberfunk has achieved since opening for business early in 2015. Chew From the Mind is a raw yet elegant synthesizer album that is surreal, beautiful and evocative of previous horror-score theme work, while expanding his sound toward more raw electronic influences. The album draws from a heady mixture of early new wave and synth-pop, '70s-era Miles Davis, science fiction literature and the past 15 years of the American underground. Within its thematic unity, Chew From the Mind paints a variety of scenarios, ranging from claustrophobic to vast, ethereal to rawly physical. The tracks were recorded and mixed in his home studio, employing a diverse set of drum machines and synthesizers in various states of functionality or development. Chew From the Mind is not only a defining statement for Alex Barnett, but for the Midwich and the midwestern electronic underground. It is an alluring and addictive listen.

Through dense layers of noise, brittle beats, found sounds and a general haze, Francis Harris returns to his own Scissor and Thread imprint, with the aid of frequent collaborator, and longtime friend, guitarist Gabe Hedrick, under the guise Aris Kindt. Following Harris' 2014 sophomore solo album, Minutes of Sleep,' (named Electronic Album of the Year by Mojo Magazine,) the duo's quintessential album debut, Floods,' takes as its focus, the late author W.G. Sebald's profound interpretation of Rembrandt's 1632 master work, The Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Nicolaes Tulp. Floods' is a sonic journey into the heart of the body, a bold rejuvenation of Adriaan Adriaanszoon (Aris Kindt), once a mere cadaver on a cold metal slab, now a living breathing human at the heart of a creative shift in vantage point from object to active subject. Much in the same way Rembrandt intended with the painting itself, Floods' attempts to subvert the listeners memory of a moment. Written within a span of over a year using an 808, a modular eurorack and two guitars, Floods' was mixed at Keyclub Recording Company in late August with Engineer Bill Skibbe. The album charts new territory for both Harris and Hedrick, melding a long history with electronic music and youthful love for indie noise, weaving in and out of near silence and sheering walls of sound with a gentle and constant heartbeat at its core. The dream-like murk of album opener Now Grey' sets the tone with thick pads, distant, ghostly guitar work and fragmented drums. On the title track, dubby chords set the tone, as subdued toms amble forward, with a crackling of fire nearby, as a dense sounds echo and swirl around into a climactic frenzy. Flesh For the Living is HIDE's vinyl debut. This 3-track EP contains 3 soon-to-be anthems. Showcasing top-notch production values, these tracks have a physicality that matches their live show. The title track provides a bracing adrenaline rush that will have listeners on their feet, fists in the air. The remix of that track by WATTS (for American Primitive) slows the pace, evoking a cinematic, dreamlike atmosphere. Limb From Limb' is a sinister side-long stomper that menaces with ethereal vocals, ghostlike percussion and a gut-wrenching low-end hook. Flesh For the Living was mastered by Ruud Lekx and cut by Josh Bonati at Bonati Mastering in New York. It comes housed in a full-color UV gloss jacket featuring retina-burning artwork by renowned sci-fi illustrator and painter, Mark Salwowski with uniform Midwich layout by Beth Hall.

Promising Bristolian producer JoeFarr released his debut EP in late 2012 for Tiga's ever reliant Turbo Recordings, picking up plays from the likes of Dave Clarke, Ivan Smagghe, Dexter & many more.

A further EP on Turbo, 'Clocks', followed, as well as remixes for Tiga and Zombie Nation, so enamoured were they with his production prowess, and now kick starting HypeLTD's 2014 campaign, JoeFarr presents four cuts for the Hypercolour offshoot.

Lead track 'Trapington' in instantly grabbing, fuelled by serious horse power, with its nagging and incessant stabs, clangs and vocal chops, underpinned with a meaty and distorted drum pattern. 'Pocket Face', built around a crunching 909 workout, slaps you around the chops, coming up for air with the spacey synth hook, then back down for more with some almost 'Red 1' era Dave Clark-esque vibes on this techno banger.

Flipside, 'Stuckfix' keeps things rough and ready, with a mechanical break beat juggernaut and tension building strings, whilst closing the 'Lounge Vibes' is 'Fola44', indeed perhaps the release's most restrained offering, with its deep organ melody springing to life over the dysfunctional beats, doffing its cap to some of the jazzier elements of Detroit techno over the years.

JoeFarr, defo one to watch for 2014, and if his 'Lounge Vibes' are like this, we're keen to see what he comes up with for the more peak time vibes of his repertoire....

've been involved in two or three major genres that are very different from each other,' says Vaughn Robert Squire from Canada, better known as Prison Garde, who is making his True Romance debut with our TREP009. About his 'Melody EP', he says: It's gospel-influenced house stuff. It's in line with the last couple records that I put out, but I feel like it's a little more mature and that the quality of the recording is a lot higher than anything else I've done as Prison Garde. I recorded it at the Phi Centre in Montreal - it's a beautiful cultural center in the Old Port. Ango and I locked ourselves in there and did a live record on an SSL in a big room.

A welcome, unexpected dose of dark ambient composition from Lee Bannon in Dedekind Cut mode for Hospital Productions, diverting the vibes of last year's collaboraton with Rabit to a more detached, OOBE space just behind the ears, above the head.
American Zen finds its centre in quivering, pensive drones and fractured small sounds, but is rent with an oceanic sense of scale, deploying splashes of distant percussion, extreme panned vocal snippets and slowly escalating harmonic space perfused by crackling radiowaves and that intangible timbre of an old TV turned on somewhere, but you can't quite pick out its location.
It unfolds at a glacial pace in five parts, crossing lines/waves comparable with Chino Amobi & Rabit's ultraviolent mixtape, the nostalgic Americana yearn of Torn Hawk, and even The Caretaker's hallowed aether zones, perpetually out of reach, submerged or hardly there, but feeling as though he's right there, breathing quietly in the background and watching you listen.
Excellent stuff, perhaps the most interesting of Bannon's releases we've heard so far.

Berlin-based duo Driftmachine returns with another striking piece of music. "Colliding Contours" is a shape-shifting album made from kosmische, dub, Industrial and Avant-garde elements. It's all held together by tense grooves and a post-club, eerie electronic atmosphere.

The latest work of Driftmachine offers a complex dialogue between genres and music styles, transcending the familiar by generating a peculiar mood through its unique take on modular synthesis and its obsessive bass-structures and detailed rhythmic patterns. Within the haunted electronic spaces of "Colliding Contours" one can find a geometry made of dub and industrial techno lines, intersecting at ominous intervals; an unsettling companion for a late night trip or a tangled state of mind.

The album opens with "Radiations", a crawling piece with a slow rebound of electronic shocks fractioning into echoes and reverberations which could be heard as an initial dialogue between operator and machine (an idea Driftmachine formerly explored in their "Eis Heauton" EP). "Sans Soleil", the second cut, introduces the perpetual motion sound sculptures that will be prevalent throughout the rest of the album. Terminal velocity is achieved as they hit the mark inside "Observant Sirens", where the hard shapes drawn between the 'riddim' and the bass reveal the signature style of Driftmachine (formulated in their debut LP "Nocturnes"). Going up and down, with longer suites of meticulous, systematic assembly and darker dub patterns, we reach "Gaukelwerk" diving deep into cosmic space, followed by "Dogov Godov" and its heavy post - industrial steps which are contrasted by ethereal layers of analog oscillation. With "Colliding Contours" Driftmachine, the duo comprised of Andreas Gerth (Tied & Tickled Trio) and Florian Zimmer (Saroos), have built an exhilarating new vehicle to deliver their vision. Go deep into the elegant menace of their sound through the unpredictability of modular synthesis.

On 'Skatta' b/w 'Alight', the British producer returns to the sound he first embraced as a teenager by infusing the basics of jungle — cut up breaks, layered pads, and vocal samples from the never-ending trove of Jamaica's music history — with modern techniques and a healthy dose of low end.

The A-side beings with a throwback, uplifting intro that promptly fades into a tough dancehall-inspired rhythm flourished with shards of breakbeats, catchy chants, and sirens echoing into the darkest corners of the club. J:Kenzo keeps the energy high with scatterings of percussion that play against the distinct bass line melodies. Flip over and watch him set the dance alight with a subtle exercise in junglistic rollage, four minutes of uncompromising break extravagance, tight edits, and pulsing bass that take no prisoners. J:Kenzo treats the classic sound with a reverent approach without being afraid to twist it up. This release is my ode to 1990s jungle,' he admits.

KENNETH JAMES GIBSON, one of the most multifaceted artists in electronic music today, enlists for the fourth instalment in our POP AMBIENT artist album series - he's the mastermind behind the Adjunct Audio label and projects as diverse as (a)pendics.shuffle, Eight Frozen Modules, Reverse Commuter, neo-americana duo Bell Gardens (with Stars Of The Lid's Brian McBride) or noise pop band Furry Things. On THE EVENING FALLS, he deviates from his other, more beat-infused work and explores vast aural landscapes with an intricately woven tapestry of swelling string drones, shimmering pedal steel

and minimalist piano motives.
The first strictly ambient solo offering from this incredibly versatile composer and musician reveals a delicate sense for rich, ruminant textures and fine-grained synth buzz dispensing organic highs on tracks like opening movement TO SEE YOU DRIFT, the Polaroid-colored LONG GONE CANADIAN SUMMER, the meditative A CONVERSATION BETWEEN FRIENDS or terraforming blues LATERAL DECOMPOSITION. The iridescent quality of these recordings almost appears to be born out of an auditory illusion - with the arrangements seemingly evolving in time lapse and slow motion at the same time.
The natural, wholesome flow of the album certainly finds itself influenced by Gibson's recent move to a 6000 ft. mountain community called Idyllwild. While two of the tracks on THE EVENING FALLS were started in LA about two years ago, for them and others to get fully realized, he needed to transition away from inner city roaming: "my wife and I heard the calling of the mountains for a while - getting deeper into meditation and nature and a slower way of life. There've been beatless tracks on many of my albums, but this is the first full-scale ambient album I've done... I simply needed to find the right focus." The result is a masterful new addition to our growing series of Pop Ambient full-lengths, presenting the fully-formed vision of a veteran producer who never lost his taste for sonic adventure.

bother... Oh except to let you in on a few little secrets about their personal lives.......
A Side: 'Hot This Year' Is the first track in this nostalgic and retrospective release. It harks back to the sunny yesteryear of summer 2013, where the rain clouds had parted ways, and the sun shone for week upon glorious week throughout the whole of Europe. Shawty's were out in their masses, and those ragga jungle MC's were bibbydibbying about London, bringing the good vibes to all that could hear. Deekline and Ed Solo could also be found, oiling themselves up and blinding people with their studio tans, whilst out recording these ragga jungle 'O Lord a mercying MC's - and this track is quite the perfect result.
The B Side 'Remember' was inspired not only by the lovely sampled vocals here, but also because Deekline really wanted to remind Ed Solo about the time he lent him a fiver to get some of those good ole Brighton chips and a can of Coke (because Ed had worked up such a hunger from rinsing out those B lines). Poor Deekline never saw that precious cash again and instead of simply asking for it back, he thought he'd try to ask for it subliminally by digging out these wonderful vocals and taking them into the studio with him. Needless to say this new passive aggressive style of hinting/taking a dig, bred by the use of social networking, didn't pay off (gettit).

With the huge success of their All or Nothing LP laying in the backdrop, Calyx & Teebee are about to take the title place yet again and with the full throttle forces of pounding basslines and meticulously constructed mechanics. But what else could you expect from two revered veterans of the genre, whose joint muscle has telescoped the competition in comparison.

However, it's not just their duteous workmanship and forty years of expeirence that makes their forthcoming '1x1' album so undeniably huge. In tracks like 'Nothing Left' Larry Con's vocals lead you by the hand into all-out anarchy. Revving between each break, your picked up and dropped by verbal crescendos. Angry, yet innovative and impressively intricate, Calyx & Teebee have raised expectations even higher.

And then comes 'Stray Bullet', a minefield of drum patterns and wavering note arpeggios. A steppy riddim which completely envelops the sense, each segment explodes on impact. Sliced and diced by invasive samples, you're unable to resist, plunging you deep into the mix, the slowly building drop pushes you into a freefall of plucky subs and jittering percussion.

'Ghetto' rolls out as another new number, again featuring the vocal talents of Doctor, it's a gritty, sharp and pumping with shaking subs, a conundrum of hi-hats and aggressive drum patterns. Pounding pads take you towards a colossal break, juxtaposing perfectly against the LPs softer touches.

Having already hit the number one spot on the Beatport drum & bass chart with both singles 'A Day That Never Comes', 'Long Gone' and 'Cloud 9', it's quite clear to see why the anticipation is almost unbearable. Deep in the Portugese underground Calhau! is constructing an absurd universe in which nightmares, rural Catholic mysticism and surrealist spirituality play the lead role. Performance, movie and music are contributing to one melancholic and cruel whole. The music is deeply rooted in Roman mysticism, using the dark hand of alchemy to beseech the insane 21st century.

The duo sounds like an updated verion of Ghédalia Tazartes and Throbbing Gristle, blending tape collages and sparse electronics, not unlike the PAN back catalogue.

Foremost, Calhau! are their own isle, at the point where the Old Europe disappears in the sea.

Ú is their third album up to date, and the first release by KRAAK. The A-side builds upon 5 song particles, in which a grotesque voice float over hard samples and rough electronics. The voice sings Portuguese, or Latin, maybe French or Mongolian throat singing. Vom Grill's gurgles could be a reference.
Side B is a re-release of the limited mini-cd A Corte D'Urubu. It's one long droney piece, a result of a collaboration with a choir, recorded at the Portuguese coast. The composition is a loose interpretation of Gregorian pieces, like Stabat Mater and Veni Creator Spiritus, mixing choral works with gritty synths and sinistre opera.

Calhau! is not unlike the Portugese language: familiar and far out exotic, hermetic and poetic. The duo establish with Ú their status as the most talented duo of the Portugese Avant- Garde.

Know V.A. - For the last years the two Amsterdam based producers have solidified their position in the Dutch scene. The two host a cutting edge experimental party in Amsterdam called HOAX. They've been invited to support the Warp & Lucky Meshowcases two years in a row during ADE as well as the R&S label nights. In their monthly radio show at Red Light Radio they showcase their latest discoveries. The name Know V.A. can be seen as a call for people to keep looking for new angles in music. Trying not to be confined and limited by genres. Something that is retraceable in the development of their productions.

Influenced by the Los Angeles beats scene as well as the ever changing UK sound.

Clusters - Producer duo Know V.A. returns to Lowriders Recordings for their second release Clusters. Since their first EP O Horizon the guys have been growing in their production to a more mature and daring sound.

Kicking off the new Dazzle vinyl only series, the duo set out to create tracks that would fit the exclusivity of a limited printed vinyl.

After several studio sessions in November 2015 the producer duo presents Clusters.Determined to push their own boundaries musically, they used a different approach in comparison to their prior releases. The three tracks originated from a sample/synth pack, specially designed for this EP. The Clusters EP should be seen as one track, solely divided by the track names. The release implies a dark and gritty experience, but excluding any aggressiveness.

Clusters EP already got some early support from Mssngno, Ryan Hemsworth, Mumdance, Ivy Lab, DJ Shadow, Noisia, Om Unit, Desto and others.

Following the recent release of So Low, a compilation of early '80s synth, industrial and cold wave classics and undiscovered gems curated by Optimo's JD Twitch aka Keith McIvor, The Vinyl Factory are set to release specially commissioned remixes of two tracks on the 16-track compilation by rising UK producer Powell and Hamburg's Helena Hauff.
Powell's pneumatic sound is perfectly suited to '49 Second Romance' by German minimalists P1/E, which he deftly deconstructs, while Hauff adds glistening synths to Belgian electro-industrial group The Klinik's 'Moving Hands' for a driving, nocturnal version.

This is the first album Oscar Mulero has released under his own name, after two acclaimed LPs under the moniker Trolley Route. Well known for his skills as a hard-edged, raw and floor-orientated techno dj, his productions go far beyond, digging deep into the intricate landscape of intelligent techno, floating moods, reminiscent atmospheres, harmony and detail.

Limitless Recordings is still a label at its infancy, with this being only their 5th release in almost 3 years since they 've been active. However what they lack in quantity they make up in quality.
The "I Want 3 EP" is the first vinyl release on Limitless Recordings. Usually focusing on the liquid spectrum of drum & bass, Limitless looked to try something different on the A-Side. This side contains a Chris.SU remix of Phase's "Walk Alone". The original track is a deep and soulful piece of music where Chris.SU's flip is a dancehall filler.

The pieces thrive on an almost compulsory focus and improvisation — carefully developed during many concerts. As a trio, Razen erased the acoustic deep listening from their last record to explore a new territory of raw melodic and psychedelic minimalism, which refers to the massive works of Louis Andriessen.

The first and last track are raw pulsating improvisations, build out of short melodic motives, creating a slow changing arch of musical tension. The center pieces Sorcerer / Reaper destroys the musical center and drops the listener into a cold, dystopian place, left alone, subject to powers beyond him.

Razen leaves with their new album the listener no choice: immerse.

Kos.Mos.Music is independent music label based in Moscow, Russia. The label was found in 2006 by Roman Paramonov (promoter of Steppin'Session, Phuture Beats, NoWayOut, Ditch Bitch and other events) and Andrey Burtaev aka Electrosoul System.

'Stretching your neck and ears to help you hear where exactly the horizon lies. The play of light on the surface of a lake, at the end of a day or at the very edge between earth and sky all become audible through Aymeric's very detailed evocations. The things happening at that boundary become attractions in their own right, a green incandescence that make you listen closer and closer until the scintillation of the aural image comes to a halt at the end of the night.

Back to the year 1999 with beats getting dope as dope can. Four untitled tracks produced by Michael O'Connell for the formerly Cologne-based label Hotel Lotte bring out the very best in Dope Beats, Instrumental HipHop, Downtempo, TripHop, NuJazz or whatever you'd like to call it.

Gidge announces new LP & 24 minute film in collaboration with Lampray "Lulin" is a joint creation of electronic duo Gidge and film production company Lampray - all friends from school in Umeå, Sweden. Usually, a film comes with a soundtrack and an album comes with music videos, but Gidge and Lampray wanted to make something different: a project where film and music are separated, yet strongly connected. This resulted in a 24-minute film & 42 minutes of audio. The film revolves around a man (Victor Lindgren) who sees something he can not explain at the edge of the woods surrounding his cabin. The audio are two 20+ minute tracks by Gidge with music derived from Lulin's lonely world and mind. Lulin is filmed close to Umeå where the Swedish friends grew up, and more specifically, right where Gidge recorded most of the sounds for their debut album Autumn Bells.The film is written, directed and edited by Ludvig Stolterman (Gidge), cinematography and production by Martin Gärdemalm (Lampray), lighting and further production by Linus Andersson (Lampray), sound recording by Jonatan Nilsson (Gidge), sound editing by Johannes Oscarsson. Everything else was done with and by their close friends.

Other People is excited to announce Solpara's Swing EP, the debut solo release by New York born and based artist Paul Sara. Paul recently returned to his New York base after spending five years in Montreal studying, working, and composing. There, he co-founded Booma Collective with Oren Ratowsky and Valentin Stip, a local group of musicians and sound artists, as well as a music label. Swing is a sort of summation of Paul's time in Montreal and his first full solo release outside of Booma. For Paul, Swing is movement, sound, and hypnosis. That fine, affective modulation, as present in a drum machine or a drummer's hand, plays a role. But so too does Paul's memory of winter sessions in Booma's studio (ironically named 'The Furnace'), where he and his friends had to swing their bodies back and forth to keep warm. The five tracks on Swing evoke warmth within cold, cavernous spaces. 'Descent' begins the EP with a one synth panning and undulating quietly left and right before the drop of a gentle, knowing beat. Next, 'Swing' bursts open with a tremendous kick looming over tumultuous layers of bass frequency filigreed by glowing chords. The gruff, calloused percussion of 'Vitamin C' sounds like its rattling inside the case of a grenade. And 'Short Circuit,' the longest track here and an awesome demonstration of polyrhythmic capacity, doubles as jagged sound sculpture. 'Seahorses' ends the EPlike it began — a single synth swaying to and fro.

House Number 44 is the first volume of The Composite Moods Collection, a new cycle of Dalhous recordings that examines the relationship between two individuals co-habiting in the same confined space - their interactions, their sense of self and of each other, and the pregnant space between. The title of The Composite Moods Collection nods to the world of film and library cues, riffing on the utilitarian idea of music 'to suit the mood' and the appealing if archaic notion that a 'mood' can be a discrete or fixed thing, a unit of feeling. Longtime followers of Dalhous will observe that House Number 44 contains some of their sparsest, most malevolent-sounding electronic music to date (see especially the brooding synthesizer throb of 'Response To Stimuli' and 'End Of Each Analysis') but some of their most disarmingly beautiful too, with indelible melodies and atmospheres as deep as thought: 'Methods of Élan', 'On A Level', the elegiac 'Lines To Border'. Amongst the tracklist, we find the dancefloor-damager 'Militant Mindset' along with t he sparse, heavy-hitting dub version by Portland's very own E3, mixed at the Boomarm Nation HQ along with label boss Gulls. Just by itself, Militant Mindset should be enough to warrant a full release but for the labels first two-disc release, they rounded up a further three cuts of Ishan & Rider's most deadly gear - The dread, grime-tinged, dancehall-flavoured E.O.D. And it's frantic 140bpm companion 'Rivet' lay down the rules on separate sides of each disc, followed by the hotly-tipped 'Highest' and it's Instrumental version, with it's signature Ishan Sound palette and swaggering bassline making noise on in clubs, Rinse FM airwaves and getting full support from the likes of Commodo, Kahn, Gantz, The Bug, Sam Binga and many more. In terms of quality, Hotline have pulled out all the stops once again, with each of the tracks undergoing the clinical stem-mastering process by Lewis at Stardelta, prior to the master lacquers being cut, for full physical impact upon deployment. Dom Crossland aka Release hails from a town on the outskirts Manchester in the misty North of the UK. Currently signed to DSCI4 the young producer draws upon a diverse spectrum of sound which includes influences from the Drum & Bass scene, as well as many other known Hip Hop, Techno and Breakbeat artists a like.

Release (Dom Crossland) & Shoto (Charlton Reid) met through internet forum NWDNB around 2008 posting mixes and tracks for feedback from their peers.
Dom was sending tracks to Charlton to play for years before finally getting in the studio and working on Cenobite.

Known for their own take on drum & bass music - and in particular their unique approach to blending influences from a variety of worlds - their first collaborative EP'Small Victories' was picked up for EXIT Records by dBridge back in 2012, and since then, their influence on a new generation of up-tempo music has been far reaching and undeniable.

Binga & Unit's collaborative label 'BUNIT' was formed in late 2014 as a home for further sonic explorations without the constraints of a standard A&R process. Written between the US and the UK, BUNIT001 - 'The Transatlantic EP' - sold out its initial run instantly, and burned through the following two represses in a matter of weeks.

Since that release in early 2015, both Binga and Om Unit have toured extensively worldwide, and their experiences in watching these hybrid strains of dance music bring mayhem and confusion alike to audiences in the Far East informed the name of this, the second installment of BUNIT - 'The Trans-Pacific EP'.

Ranging from the monolithic noise collage of closing track 'Planetary Reboot' to the grime-meets- jungle intensity of 'Windmill Kick', BUNIT002 is a clear step forward for this ongoing musical partnership. Elsewhere on the EP, mid-tempo workout 'Big Kev'takes the classic Reese-bass template and twists it into new shapes and colours, while'1000 Cats' is equal parts homage to Dance Mania rawness, summer-of-love acid and Durrrty South swagger.

Seba is one of the master veterans of the Drum and Bass genre. 'Let's Be Done With This' sees him collaborating with Method One from California and demonstrating a masterclass in modern DnB production. Weaving sinewy but subtle breakbeats around a stabbing low end, the craftsmanship both of these producers developed in the 90's shines through. On the flip 'Silicon Nature' sees the pair bringing out a lethal reese bass-line to anchor haunting sonics and a more traditional drum-kit.

Stepping into a mighty fine tradition of the likes of UB40, Black Uhuru or Massive Attack, SINKANE are announcing today the release of the SINKANE x PEAKING LIGHTS EP entitled 'MEAN DUB', a bass rich enhancement in dub of four original Sinkane songs from last year's celebrated MEAN LOVE album that have been given the magical Peaking Lights dub overhaul by Aaron Peaking. The two bands had met while on tour with the Atomic Bomb/Onyeabor project and quickly developed a mutual admiration for each other's work.
