Taking Young Ax's 2005 classic 'Midnight Sun' and wrapping it in his own production style, Calibre has created something that every D&B fan will want in their collection. Purple pioneer Gemmy lines up his first release for Tectonic. Gemmy is known for his grime-influenced dancefloor and synth-licked cuts for the likes of Planet Mu, Punch Drunk, Roska Kicks & Snares, and his own W.O.W imprint. Taking things deeper and more tribal than with his previous releases, Gemmy finds a new ground to explore with punchy roller 'Warrior'. The beats move fluidly and with purpose from the offset. As the rhythm unfolds, so does Gemmy's musical side - bringing us possibly the first ever 'tribal Purple' rhythm yet! Quality dancefloor music that is likely to appeal across the spectrum of the underground. Flip then for 'The Dome' which sees Gemmy in more familiar territory, dropping a heavy 808-based rhythm and smashing it to bits with a filthy, grimey B-line. 'The Dome' is pure fire-in-tha-dance, charged with bass sounds that cut between stinging muted bleeps and hoover-like hardcore stabs. Refined and energetic!

Unlike some ambient music, Loyal, Jakub Alexander's
release under the Heathered Pearls moniker, embraces the
idea of melody with understated but distinct sounds
emerging from the loops Alexander uses to construct his
tracks. "I wanted to find a world that was built on repetition,
erosion and melody because making these songs was
about recreating soothing environments."
The album's roots lie in a very utilitarian idea: "I started
writing what now has become Loyal as a mental break from
my personal anxieties," Alexander says. A study in the
hypnotic, calming qualities of music, Loyal is also a tribute
to Alexander's mother and Aunt (featured on the cover)
who were crucial in instilling the taste and aesthetics so
key to his music. "My mom introduced me to my first
ambient record over 10 years ago. Loyal is a response to
this."
This is a record that's full of delicate beauty. It embraces
fragility and lightness, sounding entirely natural despite
being created electronically. Tracks ebb and flow into the
mix and the songs themselves wash into your headphones
like waves receding slowly into silence. The music is
unabashedly beautiful with gentle currents of low level
tones and gleaming sparkles of synth loops that build and
decay.

Following on from her much-lauded debut album 'Quarantine' on Hyperdub released earlier in the year, Laurel Halo concludes both the year and the drama explored in 'Quarantine' with this new single 'Sunlight On The Faded'. Where 'Quarantine' was dense and beatless, layered and visceral with vocals cutting through intense soundscapes, 'Sunlight On The Faded' is energized and geometric, with lush chords built around hard, sparse drums and Laurel's harmonized vocals. The claustrophobic motifs explored on 'Quarantine' remain, but here they are turned inside out, incandescent and fleeting. Choked samples and illusory FX support the vocal phrases, the lyrics hinting at a resolution from the pain of the album's themes, and a hopefulness too. The b-side dub is a deep exploration, again reflecting the soundscapes of 'Quarantine' but ramping up the intensity with simultaneously tense and lithe drum patterns. The chords of the original are broken by gaseous blooms, distortion detail work and rhythmic FX, allowing them to breathe and bounce in and out of the track, pivoting around a sinister, bassy dub techno pulse. Like the original take, the dub version is equal parts dark and positive, both ideal for late nights and early mornings.

Police boss Caspa is making a return to the label for
his new single 'On It' featuring Atlanta-­based hip

evolution in the underground figurehead's sound as
he continues to push the envelope. Fusing the UK
sound with which he has become synonymous and

Emerging from the endless summers of Venice, California to team up with Shlohmo, Jonwayne, D33J, RL Grime and more to form the Wedidit crew, Jasper Patterson aka Groundislava has transformed from bashful video gamer to full-fledged composer. Groundislava has roots that draw from '80s nostalgia, TV and pop culture that grow and transform into the 21st Century aesthetic of electronic music. Recently tapped for official remixes of Slugabed and Shlohmo as well as Kutmah's Brownswood compilation, Groundislava returns with the 'Feel Me' LP, the follow-up full-length to his self-titled 2011 debut. A mature step for the artist, 'Feel Me' showcases Groundislava's unique sensibilities for developing sweeping soundscapes, luscious backdrops and somber tracks in a distinct sound all his own. The subdued groove and melancholic melodies of tracks like 'Suicide Mission' featuring ghostly vocals from Baths and 'Bottle Service' featuring Shlohmo balance the big room dynamics and technicolor soundscape of tracks like 'Olympia 2011' and the bass heavy boom of 'Cool Party'. · Peter Strickland's 'Berberian Sound Studio', one of the most critically
acclaimed indie films of the year, gained comparisons to the mastery
of David Lynch and Francis Ford Coppola with The Guardian, The
Telegraph and Metro awarding it five stars and Time Out saying that
the 'stylistically ambitious, morally radical, thematically complex
work... deserves the highest praise.'
· This turns out to also be an apt description of the film's sublime
soundtrack, composed by Broadcast (aka Trish Keenan and James
Cargill), before Trish's untimely passing last year. On its own, the
music sets a sinister and atmospheric tone that still exists well within
Broadcast's sonic universe.
· The record also represents the first new music from Broadcast since
2009's 'Broadcast & The Focus Group Investigate Witch Cults Of The
Radio Age'.
· James Cargill wove in sound effects, screams and snatches of
dialogue in order to bring elements of the film back into the
soundtrack. The outcome is a rare piece of film music that not only enhances the visual, but exists on its own as an independent work,and one that is an invaluable edition to Broadcast's inimitable history.

SASTE004 is the fourth release in the Stellate Series: sounds gathered from the experimental frontiers and outer edges of electronic music. For each Stellate Series release two tracks are created by four different producers. Collected together here are eight tracks from the periphery of electronic music.
Stellate 4 brings together the visions of L.B. Dub Corp, Dscrd, Sendai and James Ruskin. The tracks stem from the most disparate sources and are products of incomparable processes, yet, all four outfits have created music brimming with questions about spatial relationships. The eight tracks emerge as part-soundscapes, part-structures with which to explore our darkest selves and our deepest questioning.
L.B. Dub Corp opens Stellate 4 with 'Choctaw Dub'. With this reference to the Choctaw Native Americans the track situates itself at the point of friction between ancient wisdom and the realities of modern western living. Within this enormous cavern 'Choctaw Dub' commands a huge architectural space where heady, ecstatic noise whirls in the distance, syncopated claves chatter in the mid-ground and strange echoes reverberate in between. Shifting the frame of reference 'Indulgent Dub' is a futuristic moonscape. Dusty beds and pads are interrupted by clangs that tone out of turn, but not out of place.
French five piece Dscrd put their many hands to work and 'Aedificare' and 'Interitum' emerged. Constructed with great arcs and drops that lead to sonic corridors 'Aedificare', the Latin for building, establishing, creating, is the perfect title. Process is also highlighted with 'Interitum' where repeating phrases lead the listener through odd structures and along paths that are at once familiar and undefined. Skilfully sound-designed it is just as easy to get lost in 'Interitum's details as it is in the grandiose scope of what Dscrd have created.
From ten hands to four: Sendai is the collaboration between Peter Van Hoesen and Yves De Mey. 'Without the Written Word (Part 1)' and 'Without the Written Word (Part 2)' are fortified with bone-chilling menace. Having dispensed with the written word, all other forms of communication step into the fore: you can't consult your notes anymore, they're gone. What you've got are your ears and what they get is a vicious assault. Part 1 is an angular meeting of high-pitched shrills and synthesized screeches. Part 2 is a slab of drone slashed with noise and gnarling bass.
James Ruskin takes care of the final side of Stellate 4 and contrasts the brutalist structures created by Sendai with tracks that channel wide-open spaces and glacial planes. 'Cabin Fever' is created with a very refined palette of compressed sounds that unfold with slow precision. 'Cast Down' closes the record on a sumptuous note. 'Cast Down' is composed of stunning melodies are looped and layered. This is a track to get lost it. It's a track to dance alone to. It's a seven minute journey that, by the very same token, is mournful and utterly ecstatic.
The Stellate Series is boxed exquisitely in a round metallic tin which contains two clear 10" vinyls. Each vinyl is separated by a typographic print on recycled paper. The Stellate releases also contain a hand-numbered artwork inlay by Oblivious Artefacts. The entire artwork comprises of four parts which are divided between Stellate 1 through to Stellate 4. Additionally each release contains a unique card with a download code. Each Stellate release is a strictly limited edition of 300. "It is dubstep," says J:Kenzo of the deep, dark and sub-heavy music that makes up his eponymous debut album for Tempa. "Some people like to call it different names - dungeon, stuff like that," he smiles. "But to me it is dubstep, like it was when it first came out. Stripped down beats and bass, quite simply."

Opener 'Statement of Intent', swells from silence to a thick, rocky groove that rattles speaker cones like an earthquake. It's punishing, but carried along by an implicit sense of funk, each element placed for maximum impact. Throughout the album's length, these traits are repeated - flickers of electro riffage punctuating 'Invaderz' and 'Contagion', Rod Azlan's toasting to herald a monstrous drop in 'Ruffhouse'. What's striking about J:Kenzo's tracks is how few elements they contain, but how powerfully each is utilised: he reduces dubstep to its very essence, leaving only the barest essentials required to shake a dancefloor to the foundations.

Having grown up on soul, reggae and rare groove before delving deep into jungle, drum & bass and later garage, when he first came across the sound developing at FWD>> and DMZ, something immediately clicked. As he honed his production skills, those wide-ranging musical influences began to express themselves, lending his tracks the open-minded feel that has become his calling card. It was something Rinse FM's Youngsta noticed immediately when Kenzo first sent him the track that would become his 2011 Tempa debut single, 'The Roteks'. "Youngsta took it under his wing and just blew it up, exposed it to a whole group of people who had never heard me or my sound before' .

The album contines to show off that diversity. Although still unmistakably dubstep, it channels a range of other sounds - dub's woozy skank; twisting conga lines; blistering electro synths; Reconstruct's techno momentum; while Grime makes an appear- ance too, with Newham Generals' MC Footsie on 'No Man's Land'.

'Eyes Wide Open', meanwhile, boldly shows off dubstep's ability to be a uniquely flexible form of pop music. While the majority of the dubstep that hits the charts is shorn of all subtlety, here its half-sung, half-whispered lyrics and gorgeous descending arpeggio turn oceanic halfstep into a deep, meditative vocal track, equally at home in headphones, on late-night radio or cutting through the crowd at FWD>>.

And therein lies the root of J:Kenzo's appeal - remaining tied to dubstep's core values while pushing it along new pathways.

A feeling of acceleration characterises the mix's first third, before Williams sinks into shimmering, loop-driven peaktime house for its middle section. It's around this point that the presence of grime - the genre that T.Williams first made his name in - begins to make itself felt.

Grime and funky are reprised during the mix's final third — a potent reminder of the pressure that still lurks behind the often smoother surfaces of Williams' peaktime selection. A series of ruff- neck grime/house hybrids follow, bringing the mix to a close in an exhilarating and playful blur of aggression and synthetic texture — and in doing so, hark neatly backward to Williams' own roots, and those of Rinse FM itself.

Rinse FM started life in 1994 as a jungle station, and jungle lies at the roots of each new music Rinse has championed since. With Rinse:20, Uncle Dugs, the station's only dedicated old- skool DJ, offers a potent reminder of the genre's power.

"It's my 'Story of Jungle mix'," says Dugs. "A story of jungle music until it changed to drum & bass." Opening with Lennie De Ice's 'We Are I.E' - widely accepted to be one of the first jungle tracks - the album travels through an exhilarating chronology of the genre's evolution through the 90s. "To do that in 21 tracks was challenging," he laughs. "I could have done with 121. But it's a history of the music, mixed all on vinyl, live, and I challenge anyone to go into the studio and do a better job!"

Dugs is perfectly placed to take listeners through that history. He's been involved in pirate radio for 20 years, having caught the rave bug as a teenager. "I've never found music that's buzzed me like that," he grins. "There's nothing that's ever done that to me again. The minute I found it, that was me, forever."

Listening to the mix, you can hear that passion bubbling to the surface. Across its hour length, Dugs weaves from instantly recognisable tracks - the ragga bounce of Conquering Lion's 'Dub Plate Special (Ruff Cut)'; Andy Reece's 'Pulp Fiction' - through a mesh of tunes that represent important steps in the sound, from the headrushy bliss of Nookie's 'Gonna Be Alright (Cloud 9 Mix)' to the rolling momentum of Shy FX's seminal 'Bambaataa'.

Dugs returned to Rinse in 2011 to start a new weekly show of old skool jungle and hardcore on the station, as well as regularly inviting in legends of the scene to be interviewed on air. The response has been astonishing, which is one of the main reasons why a mix like this - which recaptures the energy and innovation of a scene at the height of its creative power - feels like an important statement. With so much of the new music that Rinse champions so strongly connected to jungle, there's no better time to remind people of those roots, and how deep they truly run.

First up Shogun's Spectrasoul are given the keys to 'No Fear', Enei's huge track released last year on his 'Stonehead EP'. Turning the original bouncing vibes into an even more dangerous piece of D&B is what the duo have done, bringing smashing breaks and some grizzly-arse bass into the mix to create one of their darkest productions to date. Crazy good. Kasra then teams up with longtime friend and compadre Cyantific for 'Minerva' a frenetic but brooding slice of tech-noir drum & bass. Full-on rolling b-lines and even a little mentasm absolutely kill it, smacking drums and off-key fx keep this one properly twisted. Next up it's the turn of Foreign Concept and new face in the scene, Xtrah. 'Harsh Reality' is exactly that with the sound-off vocal and police sirens signaling the drop into a stripped down groove, oozing class and soul. Finishing up is another Critical collaboration between Kasra and Enei, this time opting for the cinematic sounds of 'So Real'. Drone bass runs the roll here with snapping percussion, female vox and pads all combining for a piece of music with real depth and integrity. A very polished, mature way to end yet another first class release from the Critical camp.

In an explosion of genre-bending crossover creativity, Texas-born, Brooklyn- based William Rauscher aka Night Plane claims our very first release. Since we first met William in 2010 we've watched his production talent flourish into what we proudly present to you today in 2012, the dance-floor approved Heartbeat EP. Showcasing William's guitar-driven dreamy indie-house style with vocal contribution from longtime hometown friend Casey Gibbs, this EP covers a wide range of Night Plane's repertoire. On 'Heartbeat' William delivers gritty punk-rock break-beat house, while Casey shoots for the moon channelling his inner Mick Jagger. The result is a call-and response seduction that will makes you feel extra tough in your leather. 'Gold Soundz' pairs William up with his CCC label partner DJ Harry Bennett, for a soaring and epic cover of the 90's alternative rock band Pavement. Smiles at sunrise for this late summer anthem that reminds us of teenage angst and long lost high-school crushes. Vocal stylings are courtesy of Heather D' Angelo from the band Au Revoir Simone. Papik is the project created by Nerio Poggi, Rome based musician, composer, producer and arranger who's been
getting a lot of positive response from the international Nu-Jazz / Jazz Lounge scene lately. His first album from
2009, 'Rhythm Of Life', included the song 'Staying For Good', sung by Alan Scaffardi, which became and still is a
hit of the genre. His collaboration with various artists, among which Mario Biondi in his albums 'Handful of soul'
and 'I love you more', brought him to produce in 2011 also the albums by Ely Bruna 'Remember The Time' and
Fred Buccini 'Unusual Nat'. Both are themed cover projects and obtained a great market feedback. On this new
'Music Inside' the lead vocals are again by Parma based Alan Scaffardi, official image of the band, together with
Nerio himself and Ely Bruna. Other featured vocalists are: Wendy D. Lewis, US singer very popular in Italy, due
to collaborations with Jestofunk, Mario Biondi, Ivana Spagna and Irene Grandi; Dagmar Segbers, German jazz
singer, Clizia Aloisi and Paco Di Maso. The firt single from the album will be 'Puzzle Of Life', sung by Ely Bruna,
already picked by Japanese fashion brand Gallardagallante as music theme for their 2012 campaign. Japan is in fact
a territory where Papik is extremely popular and will perform on 6th May at the legendary Tokyo Blue Note. The other
musicians involved in the tour and the album project are: Alfredo Bochicchio on guitar, Pierpaolo Ranieri on bass,
Fabio Tullio on sax, Massimo Guerra on trumpet, Marco Rovinelli on drums. Papik is quite well known in the UK
too! English singer Jason Donovan, with a Top Ten career behind him, thank to hits like 'Too man broken hearts'
or 'Especially for you' in duet with Kylie Minogue, has chosen a song penned by Nerio Poggi and Ely Bruna, 'Sign
of your love', as main tune on his come-back album by the same title, out on Universal worldwide in March 2012.
That song is also featured on this new Papik album, sung by Alan Scaffardi. Among the rest of the tracks on the
album also three covers 'Family Affair' (Mary J Blige), 'Black & Gold' (Sam Sparro) and 'Raccontami di te' (Bruno
Martino).

Joe Bataan has always been a favourite of Jazzanova. His unique blend of latin, soul, funk and jazz is an inspiration, not only for Jazzanova. Bataan was born in 1942 to a Filippino dad and Afroamerican mother in Spanish Harlem, New York. In this vibrant melting pot of vast cultural influences he soon developped his own style and became one of the biggest star of the booming boogaloo scene. With his hits for the imprint, he helped Fania Records to become the biggest Latin label by the late 1960's and founded Salsoul Records in 1974, which he later sold to the Carye brothers. In 1982, after recording 10 albums and numerous singles, he retreated from his music career. Only in 2005 he came back with an new album and is touring since then on a regular basis. Throughout this all, Bataan's signature song has remained one of his earliest: 'Ordinary Guy,' first recorded back in 1966. An original composition, the song bespeaks Bataan's around-the-way demeanor and self-perception. For all his career highs and lows, he's remained, at the core, just an ordinary joe: 'It's been my moniker for a long time. You know, hey, I'm an ordinary guy. Don't expect anything else. I mean, that's me, and I've always been that way.' He recorded at least four versions of it over the years and is also a great entry into appreciating how he innovated the whole Latin Soul genre. The rework by Jazzanova, with newly recorded vocals by now 70-yeras old Bataan, is much more than just an update of this timeless classic. The swining back groove is a modern interpretation of 60's soul/funk that takes you back to the golden days of Motown, Stax and Fania. The fantastic drum break in the middle of the track and the kinky rhythm guitar licks as well as the lively bass (provided by Jazzanova live band members Arne Jansen and Paul Kleber) are so right on the money that probably even Booker T. & The M.G.'s wouldn't have done a better job.

After last years Hyperdub debut with the popular 'Set The Tone' EP, Ossie's been busy building a name for himself, as a DJ and a producer with both Ossie and Black Orange Juice releases. He comes back to Hyperdub here with the 'Ignore EP', sporting two catchy, housey, broken beat bombs. 'Ignore' features the vocals of Tilz, singing about the game of winding up the opposite sex, over bouncy, broken drums, neat stabs, and a bendy acidic bassline, with wave-like chords building up and down as if in reflection of the cat and mouse antics of the lyrics. 'Find It' on the B-side makes good with layering some roughly cut up female vocal samples, Todd Edwards-style, but twisted and dubbed into strange shapes, incorporating sloppy, dusty drums and a bassline that sounds like Wiley's early eski beat melodies, keeping the track rolling along and sounding mischievous and chunky. This release continues Ossie's building reputation as a house producer with a very British sound.

Often overlooked in American techno history are the weird and wonderful flavours to have emanated from the mid-west over the years. No two finer exponents have there been than Minnesota's Paul Birken and Freddy Fresh. Their contributions date back to the early nineties when Freddy was exploring the possibilities of extreme techno (via labels like Labworks, EXperimental and his own Analog) - an activity that Paul took up a while later after debuting on Woody McBride's renegade Communique label in 1996.

Teaming up for the first of two collaborations on this 12", Paul and Freddy open with 'The Fate of Thirty Eight' - a belting slab of analogue techno, where machines shriek and squawk like possessed animals on the loose. 'Acid Sound of Malibu' sees Paul flying solo, laying down a teasing reverb-soaked warehouse cut where suggestive 303 frequency shifts jostle for centre stage, around a series of both bellowing and piercing sound fx.

On the b-side the pair team up again on 'Fifty Is Shifty': a distorted and demented electro workout if ever there was one. Think of Ed DMX + AFX, competing in a duel for the earth's last 808, and you're somewhere close. Closing the ep is Freddy's 'Year Back'. Originally released in 1998, it was squashed onto one side (with 5 other tracks) of his 'Last True Family Man' album on Eye Q. A hidden gem of that LP, it's an epic, spaced-out trip of pulsing electro that now gets the vinyl space it needs, as well as a beefy remastering.

For ten years Danny has partnered with promoter Benny Soto in this award winning New York based event, which is now celebrating ten years (an eon in nightlife years) of bringing fans the best in new and classic disco and modern soul. This CD is a meticulously curated and sequenced set that conveys the special energy and spirit that makes 718 Sessions such a unique experience. The tracklisting includes 13 gems many of them edited and mixed by Danny exclusively for this CD.

Error Broadcast released Monolithiums' debut 12" 'Simon & G-Funk' in Summer 2011 to much critical acclaim. Back then, his mixture of footwork drummings, complex track arrangement and flawless pop was an important step for us to advance from the beat music continuum and found its logical extrapolation in releases with B-Ju, H-SIK, and OL most recently. After touring the US Westcoast and a busy summer, we are delighted to welcome the Vancouver-based producer and DJ back with his 12" EP 'Bounce 4 Life'.
'Bounce 4 Life' finds Monolithium offering the perfect mixture of club-ready footwork snare rolls and low-swung hip hop bass, a glossy get-together of pitched vocals and super-melodic synth chords. Lead single 'Bounce 4 Life' is an undestroyable hymn that we've been rinsing all summer long (and from the DJ support it's safe to say we're not the only ones). The back-stabbing 'Lancashire Hammer' slows down the dance to rap tempi, while 'Pavillionaire' (featuring Prison Garde) joins boogie with high-pitched vocal samples and sickly-sweet synthesizer arpeggios. On 'Spiral Face' and 'Sleepy Beauty', Monolithium takes a slightly more ambient and elegiac approach to footwork, with the former paying clever tribute to the Amen break and the later focussing on melodic sophistication a bit more.

DSCI4's latest LP offering 'Final Chapter', is, sadly, the final chapter in the label's history. Founded back at the turn of the century by the legendary DJ Trace it became one of the standard bearers for the 'Techstep' sound in drum and bass with an enviable discography, including the revered 'Spy Technologies' series of compilations, as well as helping to bring through now household
names such as Black Sun Empire and Chris SU along the way. Yet 13 years down the line Trace has decided to call it a day and what better to way to go out than with a bang...
A special mention must go to 'Prominence' by Stranjah however which is without doubt one of the most ridiculous tunes to grace my
ears in a very long time. Drawing you in with some dreamy bukem-esque pads, 32 bars later you're getting battered into submission
with some wailing synths, mental amen edits and pounding bass. Absolute carnage.

Spongemagnet's debut EP raises a few questions. To begin with, its title: is it a commendable recommendation to let your inner gimp come out of the closet Or is it the expression of a more Judaeo-Christian approach to the matter: 'hate the gimping, but love the gimp' The titles of the tracks are also subject to debate. 'Bum Damage' sounds like something one might wake up to after a night of heavy drinking and insufficient amyl nitrite consumption. 'Poon Quiver' refers to the shaking motion sometimes exhibited by female genitalia when reaching climax during some form of sexual activity. I'm not quite sure who the narrator of 'Gimp Bisquit' is: the 'gimper' or the 'gimpee' And is the 'bisquit' of the gimp or for the gimp As for 'Plutonium Catwrap', I would prefer abstaining from any attempt at explaining what it might mean in this chemically-preserved, plastic-wrapped world (but it sounds undeniably dirty). Now I don't know about you, but I see a definite trend appearing. Bromance gone wrong.

I have been working on those tracks after my To The Threshold Album, some of the tunes was in the process already while i did the previous album. Across his many projects past and present, it's under the moniker of L. Pierre that Aidan Moffat has perhaps best opened up the bare bones of his thirst for sonic exploration. The Island Come True is Moffat's fourth album as L. Pierre and is a work assembled from the vast cavern of his assembled field recordings and samples, a collage that works as a sonic patchwork of the 39 year-old's own mind. A popular lyrical raconteur whether as one half of Arab Strap, writing under his own name or when collaborating with Bill Wells - as on last year's Scottish Album Of The Year award winner Everything's Getting Older - it's as this carnation where the true extent of his musical eclecticism is revealed.

As such, the album is as a dreamscape, with fragments of classical works, drum samples, instructional speeches and, in a link back to his last album, recordings of nature. Electronics elements previously employed on past albums have been discarded, the album in its entirety consisting only of these found sounds.

The record is overridden by the hissing of tape tracks and drones, and there's good reason for that: 'there's something beautiful in hearing the grit and hiss of old recordings' professes the artist, who admits that he's even gone as far as adding and embellishing click tracks and surface noise. 'Everything sounds so clean and clinical and perfect today, but I love hearing something that sounds worn and suggests the music has a history. It's gorgeous and sad at once, as though it's lived a life and survived to tell the tale.' Sadness is a word that could readily be used to describe big sections of Island Come True, a fine line trodden between soothing warmth and bleaker depths throughout.

Previous albums under the Pierre guise had a specific mood or ambience that they attempted to portray; 2002's Hypnogogia, Moffat explains, was his own home-made comedown album, its 2005 follow-up Touchpool a warped take on lounge music, whilst third LP Dip represented something more physical, consisting largely of countryside recordings. With The Island Come True, though, the onus is on the listener's own imagination and not his; 'it's about taking the listener on a wee journey, but where that journey goes is entirely up to them' says Moffat. 'I wanted this one to be more suggestive and mysterious than the previous records.'

It's apt that such an otherworldly LP has been named after the title of the chapter in Peter Pan where they discover Neverland. Pan celebrates the power of the human imagination and its Island Come True's aim to do that too, the open-ended nature of the eleven sprawling constructions allowing listeners to take away their own interpretation of what exactly it is that the Scotsman is trying to evoke and achieve. Song titles, too, delve into the extraordinary, the surreal and, more often than not, the sinister; 'KAB 1340' is the name of the radio station being listened to in John Carpenter's The Fog, 'The Grief That Does Not Speak' is taken from a speech in Macbeth, 'Tulpa' is a Buddhist term for a physical object brought about purely by the power of the mind. Moffat admits that he thought he was done with L.Pierre after 2007's Dip, confessing that his sense of happiness with that record made him feel like he didn't need to revisit the project any further. It's a relief that he gained an urge to reprise it late last year. For all the wonderful work that he's put out in his various guises over the past 17 years, it is arguably as L.Pierre where he's at his most beguiling and unexplained, collecting and sculpting these pieces of aural history together for reasons that he never quite tells us. Such is the beauty of the project and of The Island Come True - it is for us to draw our conclusions upon.

Dusty Baron aka Latecomer may be a recent arrival on the scene, but he plays like a true veteran. A mysterious export from the around same eastern latitudes as label boss Vakula, his music, much like V's, sounds just as rooted in the post Soviet Russian landscape as it is in the post industrial North America which gave rise to all the soul and machine funk that is the driving inspiration for so many of today's roots conscious electronic artists.

Vakula takes the controls on Side A with dubwise and exotic production skills whilst Side B showcases The Baron's heavy heavy chops, with drum programming as deft as his keys work, and a sound which is equal parts earthly and heavenly. Sides C & D (on bonus 7") see V step up to offer two takes on 'Follow Shot', continuing the theme of techno tinged jazz cosmism.

A noble introduction, by way of collaboration, to the Dusty Baron and his sound; and yet another installment in Leleka's continuing contribution to the musical space time continuum.

BIG BUD returns once again with another album. His fifth on SOUNdTRAX and eighth album overall..No big name guests on this project , just a few talented musicians that BUD has met on his travels. Kicking off proceedings with his trademark , atmospheric style , the album quickly moves on into dubwise riddims then a couple of stripped down , minimal pieces. Dropping a soulful , house groove and then the album winds down with a couple of dUb workouts and ends on an 8 minute piece of ambient music , a song

"Again, much like my last album, there's no overall concept to this project. It's really just a collection of music and influences that I'm into right now... On my last tour of Australia I spent a lot of time with the FOREIGN DUB crew, from Sydney, a talented bunch of
musicians, artistes and DJs... So I managed to get a couple of recording sessions in with a horn section and on another project I recorded an amazing Sitar player."
BIG BUD has been travelling the World constantly and testing out the new material. From big festivals in Australia, Bosnia, Sardinia, to small clubs in Kosovo, the reactions have been good... For someone who has a chronic fear of flying, he certainly clocks up the
airmiles.
"Yea, had some amazing experiences since the last album. Played quite a few big festivals which are always special but i still think
you can't beat a smaller, dark club with the crowd right in your face and a room full of energy. Altho I think when it comes to vibe and
atmosphere, you can't beat the SUN'n'BASS festival in Sardinia. I was lucky enough to play the closing party again this year ,"
The album will be released on his own label, SOUNdTRAX, which is celbrating it's 10th anniversary this year. Coming up to it's 50th
release, the label has established a reputation of introducing new talent to the scene.
"I only realised recently that the label is 10 years old. I was looking for an old release and noticed on Discogs that it came out in 2002!
So, yea, 10 long years, but they've flown by. I know it's not one of the biggest labels on the scene but it has it's place as a label who
loves to find promising new talent from around the World and give them a chance to get heard. If you look back thru the back cat,
you'll see a lot of names who are doing pretty well for themselves now. Obvioulsy Im not saying it's because of SOUNdTRAX but it
definitely helped them on their way. And that's something I'm very proud of. It feels good to contribute to the scene in this way."
There is an album launch party planned in London on Nov.1st. which will also be streamed 'live' on BASSDRIVE radio, the biggest online dNb station..

Hot on the heels of our first release, Paradise Club Recordings are straight back to business with another limited run, coloured vinyl EP that should further establish the labels growing reputation for diverse, forward thinking musicianship and staunch production values.Opening proceedings on the A-side is the stunning 'One Man & His Lighthouse' by Blacksmif. Dense synth textures are layered upon
a foundation of dynamic, pulsing cross rhythms to create an enchanting garage-meets-soul flavour that has come to define his distinct style. Continuing on the A side, Juno Sutton steps up on remix duties, creating a highly functional rework by ducking the tempo and stripping down the groove, realigning the track toward the dance-floor, while still perfectly complimenting Blacksmif's more offbeat original.
On the AA-side, Jabru shows another string to his bow and drops the pace further with the slowburning 'Butterfly Stitched' (vinyl exclusive). Here, deep pounding 808s and driving claps are woven into lo-fi pads and a haunting vocal sample to form an ethereal,
melodic stomper that still has the club set firmly in its sights.
MTD & Dutty Dan round off the AA side with the incendiary 'Stranded'. Primed for peak time destruction, the track combines gut- punching sub tones with powerful stabs and rugged, elemental percussion, resulting in a bass-heavy sonic weapon that ensures a full
attendance on the floor time and time again.

A fresh new four track EP from North Carolina duo Clicks & Whistles.Marking their second release on Embassy Recordings, the two expound on their highly regarded southern rap influence combining sturdy percussion combined with colourful melodic synths and memorable hooks.Support from Machinedrum, Gas Lamp Killer, Trouble & Bass Crew, Salva and LOL Boys.

'III' will receive a global release on November 5th and is the first of Crystal Castles full-lengths to be produced entirely by Ethan Kath.
"We wanted the new album to sound like a completely different and new experience," says Ethan Kath in an official statement 'We'd limit ourselves to one take on each song because we believe the first take is the rawest expression of an idea."
By ditching their old synthesizers and keyboards used on I and II, Ethan enforced a 'strictly no computers' rule in the studio and began recording everything directly to tape. Together the Canadian duo has conjured up a collection of songs that are as raw as they are well rounded. As 'III' unfolds, each track will take you to greater heights and equal lows, as you enter the sometimes plagued, and often polarized world that is Crystal Castles.
"Oppression is a theme, in general... A lot of bad things have happened to people close to me since II and it's profoundly influenced my writing as I've realized there will never be justice for them," explains Alice "I didn't think I could lose faith in humanity any more than I already had, but after witnessing some things, it feels like the world is a dystopia where victims don't get justice and corruption prevails.'
Recorded mostly in Warsaw and Berlin, the highly anticipated 'III' also boasts the haunting and euphoric 5-minute mind-bender 'PLAGUE', that quickly caused a cyber-storm amongst fans and media when the band unveiled it via their soundcloud page this summer.
Since then, Ethan and Alice have been surprising fans across Europe by randomly dropping exclusive tracks from 'III' into their live-set, revealing yet another layer of III to the world.
Crystal Castles will be playing a select number of UK tour dates in November - see below.

Echo:Shades of Goldie's classic 'Terminator' saturate Echo's intro before dropping into what can only be described as 'pure' drum & bass. Oozing bass slides and metallic stabs underpin skittering drums & percussion, conjuring up that long lost pre-'EDM' warehouse atmosphere. Echo is an anthem for dancefloors where sweat drips from the ceiling and no one knows the name of the tunes.

Jack Dice is a new project from John Twells and Walkmaster Flex, now releasing their debut EP for Modern Love.
John Twells, amongst very many other things, runs the Type label and has been producing music of various different disciplines and varieties over the last 15 years. Although he's never released anything on Modern Love before, he's a long time friend and associate of the label.
Walker is the manager of Main Attrakionz and has been DJing with them for the last couple of years as the official 'Green Ova DJ'.
'Jack DIce' is fuelled by an interest in bass, Twells being a car audio nerd and Walker having an obsession with 90s southern rap music. These are their first tracks produced together, who know what might follow...

On his first release for ClekClekBoom, the Institubes original showcases 3 tracks of hard-hitting, deftly-produced, dance-floor menace. 'Put It In The Trunk' combines cascading percussion, disturbingly nonchalant vocal snippets and deep, propulsive, subs. With 'Black Things On Desk' Jean Nipon employs unnervingly detuned vocal samples woven into irresistibly pulsating, punchy percussion. The final tune, '35 Thieves' sees our enigmatic wizzard drop subtle snatches of melody in amongst a grooving beat
which, as ever, strikes the perfect balance between toughness and delicacy.
CCB008 is certain to tear apart dance-floors everywhere with its heavy-hitting, baleful beats. But like any unknown quantity, handle with caution.

What exactly has happened to all the Chillout Floors Once being an indispensable place for cozy hangouts and relief at every good party, they calmly dissipated in the last decade. They were eventually replaced with second and third floors, all with the same standardized 'four to the floor' sound without attitude. And now Noom Café come with an album that sounds like being made in the best times of the Chillout Era. Is there a Chillout revival coming upon us For Noom Café this is not the question. They live for relaxed beats and low key soundscapes ever since. Their new Album 'Beyond Time, released by the Frankfurt label 'Elux', is like a fresh breeze on a Balearic evening in summer. Within the first minutes of the albums opener 'Baracoa', the listener gets a very clear impression of the musical quality of Noom Café. Acoustic instruments and swinging beats, like in 'Blue Sky',melt into electronic pads and reverberant vocal samples. In this manner Noom Café are creating their very own world, far away from the hectic of everyday life. Anyhow, a day at the beach touches on more than just sunshine. 'Beyond Time' takes the listener away from the worn out paths of the genre and sends him on a journey to darker sound realms.
