Considered a pioneer of the early UK Funky days, Roska quickly carved his own niche in the sound; initially through his Roska Kicks & Snares imprint and later through his Rinse FM shows and releases on the ever-respected underground Ammunition / Rinse label. In almost no time at all Roska was in demand for remixes that spanned out from the underground, versioning Untold, Four Tet, Jamie George, Zed Bias and more in his own unique style. Roska now returns to Tectonic following the head-turning killer '480 BC' featured on 'Tectonic Plates Volume 3' earlier this year, and a collaboration with Pinch - 'Paranormal Activity' - in 2011. This time he's got a whole 12' to himself and we're treated to a real tour-de-force of tribalised rollers, thick with atmospheric attitude, thumping subs and a shoulder-popping percussive workout. 'Blurry' runs at 133bpm allowing it to sit neatly between dubstep tempo and the increasingly popular 125-130 bpm bass / house scene that's been developing in the UK over the last couple of years. Taking things down an 'ongy-bongy' path, this rhythm provides the soundtrack to a hunter chasing his prey through a humid jungle landscape, with fast weaving beats charged heavy by the deadly subs. The heat is on. 'Spearhead' sees Roska making a rare 140bpm trip, taking this rhythmical excursion neatly into dubstep tempo territory, creating an original cut which sits in it's own world of tribal grime. The bassline pounds heavy, eventually rising upward before suddenly plummeting back down to the murky depths from where it came, and back round again. Dis-hyeer quality dubstep music produced 'pon the other side of the looking glass.

David Sylvian's experimental breakthrough Blemish (sound-cd ss001) sees a new interpretation in the album Wandermüde, by the remarkable electro-acoustic musician Stephan Mathieu. Working from the instrumental source material, Mathieu brings us a new experience of the most stirring textures and darkest thoughts from this pivotal album.
Mathieu first collaborated with Sylvian at 2011's Punkt festival in Kristiansand, Norway, when he performed a live remix of Sylvian's ambient classic Plight and Premonition. Sylvian recently began work on an iOS application to display a collection of his digital photography. He invited Mathieu to develop an ambient score for the application, using material from 2003's Blemish.

Having come to prominence in the late 00s as one of the more distinctive and entertaining voices in the new beat scene, Fulgeance, has cheekily christened his own brand of hip hop meets electro and party friendly sounds Low Club. On Step Thru he continues to explore the same space, taking his music further down below into the dark, cavernous crevices that lie between hip hop and electronics. Fulgeance's hip hop roots are still visible throughout Step Thru, most notably on the album's two vocal cuts. Whut It Iz features Brooklyn MC Fresh Daily for a bumping and lurid transatlantic collaboration built on a sturdy riddim that balances neon bright melodies with darker bass lines. On the other side is Break Them Down with Yinka, a Greek MC Fulgeance first connected with years ago. The beat is as low as it can be without falling underground, sparse yet packing a punch and made all the more hypnotic thanks to Yinka's flow and his politically charged and socially conscious lyrics.

At the time of releasing his debut album Prins Thomas was handling all the instruments his self. Nevertheless the idea allways existed to put together a proper band - consisting of professionals, but basically more like friends and friends of friends. Barbara Acklin's magnificent 'Am I the Same Girl' was released in February 1969 and reached #33 in the R&B charts and crossed over to #79 in the Pop charts. Despite its hit status it remains an elusive record to find Mint - probably because most copies were played to death. Yes it's that good!

A staple at Moonboots and Jason Boardman's Aficionado night, this makes a perfect third release on this superb label.
The original version conjures up memories of the highlights of Air's classic Moon Safari output. On the flipside Manchester's Balearic boy wonder Begin hands in a deep electronic remix taking the song into an altogether more spacious direction, while retaining the expansive and textured beauty of the original perfectly.

Bristol boys Die and Break team up for a stunning release on Shy FX's Digital Soundboy label. Title track "Grand Funk Hustle" kicks things off with a shimmy of keys, sax, vocal and shuffling bongo beats, before we are taken into a dutty bassline roller. Le Jardin des Chemins Bifurquants is the first full length album of Chicago based electronic music artist, producer and DJ Jamal R. Moss. Educated by House legends Adonis and Steve Pointdexter, he's been following a singular musical path, producing a gritty futuristic meltdown of House, Free Jazz, New Age and Noise.
For this record, Jamal worked with the concept of plants having a religion, and the question of what their way of worship would look like. This resulted in a dark deep-space overture with raw synth stabs, extreme pitch-shifted textures and hypnotic tribal rhythms—somewhat reminiscent of Sun Ra's interstellar electric keyboard explorations. Le Jardin des Chemins Bifurquants is an unclassifiable tour de force that is oozing with profound cosmic meaning.
For the artwork we invited visual artist Robert Beatty (of Hair Police fame) whose work has graced the record sleeves of Burning Star Core, Family Battle Snake and Oneohtrix Point Never.

Dutch beat broker and synth wrangler KRSUR returns to Myor for his sophomore vinyl release. On his 2011 demo, here completed, remastered and re-designed, Oyaarss already expressed all that made of his "Bads" album such a widely praised work: the intense analog noise, the bass-heavy droning, and most of all the implacable, misanthropic atmospheres. "Smaida Greizi Nakamiba": "The Future Smiles Wryly", but also very loud, as Oyaarss's music (here supported by three other Latvian musicians) sings the tune of decay and rust. It's clean, it's sharp, and it invokes images of futuristic, spacious constructions. For his first full-length album, breakcore artist Techdiff leaves the dancefloor anthems behind and demonstrates an insolent talent for ultra-edited, highly dynamic tracks mixing break beats, electronica and sound design. Myriad of details and idea flow together in this beast of a work, which demonstrates (as his label mate Ruby My Dear also did recently) that there's much hope to be had in this new wave of breakcore producer. This clearly doesn't sound like anything this genre has ever produced in the past, but proves to be an impressive milestone for this artist and this style.

PianoBatacaZoo provides us his most powerful set up ever: vibrations and Deep- House oriented strokes charged with baroque sensuality, decorating and presenting himself extra sensitive through solid percussion lines that come from UK-Funky, counteracting with elegant shines of real instruments. MNGC, a more minimal cut built from an explicit mutant bass line that works as the spine that receives new tools through the playing of the tune: dry falterings, bipolar personality that makes his own the mysticism of the original Dubstep or the synth motifs connected with the intensity of the Deep Techno. Jimmy Edgar adds a virtuous, erotic and visceral layers of manicure to PianoBatacaZoo, charging the record with positive electrons and amplifying his prole of inuential collage.

this Australian's mystical dungeon, a place where Eastern instrumentation and emotive

Title track "Colder Now" takes us on a bleak, esoteric journey, combining Eastern strings
with a tense vocoded bassline, serves it up on a canvas of hazy oriental atmospheres, and
then brings everything to a point with some delicious dubbed-out subbass switches. What a
combo! "Debased" brings things back to bassline focus with its writhing subs and techy
synth stabs, creating a powerful, foreboding soundscape with minimalism, dark atmospheres
and the kind of razor-sharp beats that Boot is known for. "Structural Function" continues
in the same vein - a monster of a tune built only on the basics and oozing a strong, everpervading
sense of dread. This is dungeon sound from the ethereal plane! "Unit Zero"
slaps the finishing touches on the vinyl edition of the release, focussing on a funky bassline
and emotive atmospheric pads, building up into a meditative dub experience. Digitalexclusive

Strut announce a groundbreaking project for November 2012, a unique fusion of Afrobeat and Moroccan Gnawa music from respected French Afro collective Fanga and leading Moroccan maâlem (Gnawa master), Abdallah Guinéa with his band Nasse Ejadba.Curated by the excellent, forward-thinking Détours du Monde festival in Montpelier, France during 2011 in association with Nueva Onda, the collaboration re-interprets Fanga classics, cherry-picking tracks from their 15-year career. "Our objective from the sessions was not so much to create an entirely new flow but more to bring the real Gnawa sound and trance feeling to some of our songs - we wanted to make the songs work so neither group's sound was compromised. For us, it was also a human and cultural meeting. We represent two continents but also two ways of thinking and two completely different styles of life."The two styles prove to be naturally compatible throughout. Leading out front on the tracks, Burkina Fasso-born Fanga bandleader Korbo and Guinéa share lead vocal duties. Guinéa builds his trademark 'Fusion Trance' through spiritual evocations, rolling, hypnotic rhythms and gimbri melodies while, by turn, Korbo serves up food for reflection, touching on the right to be different and promoting harmony between man and nature whilst denouncing the social injustices that result from an economic system out of control and designed to benefit the few.
Rich, thought-provoking and effortlessly funky, 'Fangnawa Experience' is an ambitious piece of work and another significant chapter in the open-minded and cross-cultural climate for modern world music. Fanga and Maâlem Abdallah Guinéa will be touring Europe during 2013.

Parry Music was founded in Toronto, 1974 by John Parry and Chris Stone. John was formerly a manager of revered UK library Chappell Music and Chris was a Canadian music consultant, both brought some familiar musicians to the table.
Johnny Hawksworth, Robin Artus, Paul Kass, Nino Nardini (close allies with Roger Roger) are on board Tomorrow's Achievements. At the same time, a little known Canadian Library musician who features heavily, Harry Forbes. Forbes is the real driving force of P.I.'s Parry-Love; a master of imminent, hummable melody, sublime synth miniatures baked in sweetness.
Elsewhere, the other players in proto-Balearic house, groovy electronic disco, spooked choral drone, freaked-modular scorch and weird Radiophonic bleep. It's been four long years since Glissando released the critically acclaimed 'With Our Arms Wide Open We March Towards the Burning Sea' and the duo finally return this November with a new record 'The World Without Us'.

The new material bares Glissando's trademark of ethereal voices and tip-toing piano melodies but the overall sound is richer and more expansive. Epic swells of strings and guitars sore above the drones and field recordings to create an intense yet fragile noise. The dynamics of the new record are also apparent and through the use of an array of guests there is a new depth and ambition to Glissando that portrays the songs in their truest form. 'The World Without Us' moves slowly between dark shadows and into more hopeful territory throughout, it's not afraid to be silent when the moment arrives but it's also capable of enormous, echoing, choral and string crescendoes in one subtle movement.
Since Glissando's debut in 2008 Elly May Irving and Richard Knox have experimented with countless different live set-ups and members ranging from simple, more immediate shows as a duo through to a 7-piece group. Never tied to a specific ideal of how to play the material, it enabled the group to tour heavily for a couple of years in the UK and Europe whilst recording a follow-up album but inevitably this process took it toll. Knox began new projects; 'The Rustle of the Stars' (with Frederic D. Oberland of FareWell Poetry) and later A-Sun Amissa (which also features regular Glissando member Angela Chan) which weighed heavily on the amount of studio time he could commit to Glissando.

May 2012 saw the decision of Irving and Knox to finally complete the record they had been tentatively working on for four years and the final stages came together relatively quickly. Knox produced and pre-mixed the record in his own Cloud Blunt Moon studio in Leeds before heading to Paris to complete the final mixing session with Oberland at his Magnum Diva studio.

The material on 'The World Without Us' stretches back the full four years with the likes of The Long Lost and Of Silence which previously featured on a highly limited edition double-A-side single. The title track is also an older song which has been morphed and reworked over the years. The duo knew these songs were too strong to leave off the record and pushed to find ways of hitting the same standard with the newer tracks like 'Companion' which is almost Scott Walker-esque in the vocal delivery, marking a dynamic change in the way Irving is using her voice.

The occasional fisherman and graduated psychologist Vlad aka Monokle is responsible for the third LP on Ki Records. The Title of the Record is "Saints" and it will be available on Vinyl, CD and Digital. It's already the fifth LP release for the 26 year old producer from St. Petersburg. He's been making music since the mid-00s and has a massive creative output. As he says, he takes his inspiration from silence and Eric Satie is one of his biggest idols. His favorite label is Warp, so it's no wonder that some of the nine tracks do have reminiscences with the British label (e.g. Holt Found, Arrows or Homesick). But instead of quoting the sound of his big idols, he gives it an individual touch and continues the evolution of that certain kind of sound. His main Influences were IDM and Glitch, before he became more in touch with Ambient and Drone. All these different influences can be heard as sound fragments in his tracks. Like in a kaleidoscope, these fragments unite; get torn apart and in the end melt together again. Monokle says that "Music with simple rhythms and catchy beats gets him bored pretty quick". So he got rid of static listening and producing structures, to go his own way when creating music. The Vinyl version of Saints got three bonus tracks in the form of remixes by Fybe:one, WOLS and Milinal. The illustrations for the cover were made by Argentinean artist Carolina Nino. Just like Monokle she works with different shapes and pieces, bringing them together in a new context.

Really really sick beat.so devastating that i have had to admit myself to the mental hospital entering into the even darker and dirtier area of dubstep now, I introduce you to Koan Sound. I have heard that these boys are only 17 years old although I'm yet to confirm this. These guys have been smashing it lately, with more than one forthcoming releases on both Dubsaw & Screw Loose Records, aswell as releases on labels such as Trill Bass's Trill Bass Records' it's almost obvious these guys are gonna soon be smashing up the scene with their deep, dark and chopped up dancefloor killers.

Since the latter half of the last decade, Alex Melia aka Reso has been blending heightened technological futurism with dancefloor prowess to create a densely cinematic musical universe. Following last years 'Ishimura' EP, 'Check 1,2' is the next single to be introduced from forthcoming debut album 'Tangram' on Civil Music. An unflinching vision of the future and complete competency in his craft sees Reso construct a brave new narrative in the way that timeless artists like Richard D James, Photek, DJ Shadow and A Guy Called Gerald have done for earlier generations.'Check 1,2' is a curveball that reveals Reso's love of dark hip-hop, melding sounds and influences from MoWax, Ninja tune, sci-fi and dubstep. Running double time the high hats add to the heavy head nodding roll and chest rattling subs of this 'One to Watch' artist. Look out for Danny Scrilla's first EP for Civil Music late 2012.Japanese 2 x DMC world Champion DJ Kentaro closes out the package. Kentaro is a huge Reso fan and fresh from releasing his 2nd album on Ninja Tune, (a campaign to which Reso contributed a remix) whipped up a beat-juggling, electro-workout that lurches and bounces with more edits than you can count.

White Marbled Vinyl'Wisdom' comes from Consequence and ASC who provide 2 thinking mans dancefloor tunes. 'Noisy Spirits In This Soul' sees Consequence conjure up memories of classic Jonny L and Spirit and marry them in a bottom heavy juggernaut that has been the chosen opening tune of label boss Presha's DJ sets for several months. 'Snow Wolf' is a longtime personal favorite of Loxy, and shows ASC in devastating form flexing his ability to chop a break with the best of them. Pinned by a brittle, shuddering bottom end, this tune brings the past to the future in a way only a handful of artists in Drum and Bass are able to in 2012. 'Wisdom' is a deep understanding and realization of people, things, events or situations, resulting in the ability to apply perceptions, judgements and actions in keeping with this understanding.

Disquiet is the debut album of American composer, sound recordist and engineer Paul Corley. Disquiet is music that never settles. Music that makes the listener fiercely attentive to the present, to the very idea of listening. It takes some doing, and some patience, to produce an atmosphere so unearthly and yet so radiant, to organise fragmented - sometimes found - sounds into such sparse, sustained and spiritual coherence.

Civil Music's latest transmission comes in the form of four advanced dancefloor cuts from Moscow's Alexey Devyanin under his Pixelord moniker.Having a rich history in electronic music, with beats released under a number of different aliases (including a rich vein as Gultskra Artikler), Devyanin's latest incarnation as Pixelord has seen the producer traverse a wealth of influences, from the experimental field recordings of Fennesz, to the heavy-hitting rhythms of a new Russian beats scene and beyond. With the Supaplex EP we see Pixelord taking the reins of an exciting new chapter for his country's club music, leading the way through Russian juke, emotive digitalism and half-stepping bass works.
Opening with the unmistakably Chi-Town indebted beat patterns of 'Been Lookin', the EP outlays the 2012 Pixelord dynamic; heavy trippin' juke rhythms, pitched down ghost MC's duetting with their angelic female counterparts, and sky high synths that sear their way across the heart.'Freeze The Star' takes this template and twists it into a deeply layered ode to trap architects like DJ Toomp, Beat Billionaire and
Burn One, part low swung call-to-arms, part melancholy reflection. Complete with Q-Tip's heavily treated vocal sample and looped r'n'b couplets, the tracks multitude of components oscillate around each other, dipping and weaving throughout the waveform to create something equal parts solid and elegant.
'Paperball' follows, acting as a frenetically percussive demonstration of this artist's programming chops - all tempered hand claps and rolling 303 drums - before finally 'Vibrate' rounds things off with perhaps a more recognizable UK lean. Gloopy, rumbling melodies scale their way across galvanized percussion, as stuttered MDMA-dipped synth work creating the perfect foil for the tracks
second drop, which sees polyrhythmic UK funky-isms played out against a backdrop of broken halfstep beats.

Anna Meredith will release her debut EP, Black Prince Fury, on limited edition 180-gram heavyweight vinyl on 15 October via The Vinyl Factory / Moshi Moshi Records. The four track EP opens with the throbbing horn fanfare of Nautilus, premiered online today, and goes on to explore lush psychedelia and slow build, downtempo electronica across 18 minutes of inspired soundscapes.
Meredith's groundbreaking contemporary composition in the classical music sphere prompted the Daily Telegraph to call her "one of Britain's leading young composers," but she has been working increasingly in the electronic arena too. In the last year or so, Meredith has been writing and recording the songs that would become Black Prince Fury, road testing the new tracks at a handful of live shows with the likes of James Blake, These New Puritans and Mira Calix.
There are few artists who can switch effortlessly between having a composition performed by the National Youth Orchestra at the BBC Proms one week, to premiering their new track on Pitchfork the next. Which probably goes some way to explaining why Anna Meredith is such an exceptional talent.

Attack is the period of time after the initial release, it's typically the loudest part of the sound Decay is the phase while you're going from the attack to the sustain - you're 'decaying'  the volume from this sharp initial phase to the normal volume phase Sustain is the normal phase of the sound.  It is typically less volume than the attack, and go on for an indefinite period of time, or for a specific amount of time Release is the draw down from the sustain period to no sound. A fade out.

_moonraker is a continually evolving musical conversation that longs for escape from terrestrial constraints.
