So in October last year Granholme finally became a reality with the release of Graphic's Wiping The Eye EP. As the first release on a label no one had heard of it was both humbling (people were actually willing to listen) and reassuring (after being obsessed with the tracks from early on) to see the support from a bunch of people. A large and sincere thank you for that. You might have spotted the shift in sound of the last track, a well received remix by Zoltan that was later given away on XLR8R (& is now on our soundcloud page). We're finally ready to release GHM-002, a 3 track Zoltan EP with Graphics returning the favour with an extra promo only remix. It's a change in tone from our first release flying it's floor filling ambitions with pride, and for that we are thankful. 'Pluton' opens the EP with a relentless crack and percussive chatter quickly joined by diva glitches and gyroscope bass stirring, before said low end rotations and hi hats resolve themselves into motorik syncopation, periodically cooling down before bursting back into life. Flipside 'When I'm' further ups the raver uniting stakes with crunching ST-esque kicks & snares and chiming vocals building into plunging breakdowns, all sucked down by a heaving space where the low end should be. Digi-only track 'You Don't' brings the EP to a close with a further refinement of 'Pluton's helicopter bass, adding hammering acid flecked psychosis to the party. There's also a vaguely recognizable vocal buried in there that might have kept the track from vinyl inclusion, but we wouldn't know about that.Finally there's Graphics aforementioned rework of 'When I'm', due to be released as a free promo download in the coming month. More in tune with the post-rave dawn crawl home, Graphics slashes the tempo while the vocal is twisted into an unintelligible taunt and isolated kicks & stomach cramp synths coalesce into a uniquely dead eyed shuffle. Confirmed DJ & Radio support so far from; Jackmaster (Numbers / Rinse), Scratcha (HyperDub / Rinse), Roska (Rinse), Shox (Rinse), xxxy (Orca/TenThousandYen), Presk (Ten Thousand Yen / AudioCulture - used 'When I'm' on his Fact mix just before Xmas).

Genetix are back! 'Falling Down' that features Persist is an instant anthem! Heavy Electro synths lace the intro of this amazing track with a catchy vocal to match. Just wait for the drop though, in your face, well rounded basslines sit on top of some beefy, engineered to perfection beats that will rip apart your subs. Then 'Attic' sees Genetix go a little deeper than usual, but really like the direction of this well executed production. Last up is 'Rock Solid'. As you might of guessed from the name, this track has a heavy rock influence with distorted guitar riffs making up this quality track.

When the 'A New Stereophonic Sound Spectacular' with singer Liesje Sardonius was originally released in 1996, Hoover ran into a bit of legal trouble with the famous vacuum company and had to change their moniker to Hooverphonic. Luckily, it didn't have any effect on their success. Music On Vinyl is re-issuing 'A New Stereophonic Sound Spectacular' on 180 grams audiophile vinyl for the first time since its original release. On it is the single '2Wicky', which was featured heavily on the soundtrack of the film 'Stealing Beauty' starring amongst others Liv Tyler and Jeremy Irons. Perhaps the dreamily experimental Symph Pop of Hooverphonic is one of Belgium's most important exports in the musical field. And, like the famous Belgian beers, you either love it or hate it. As far as we're concerned, we know which side of the fence we're on!

No one knows exactly what happened to Lukid in the summer of 2010, but anyone close to him will tell you that this is when the changes started to become apparent. The silences, the distant stares, the increasingly more pronounced facial tic, the kicking of things. The happy young beat-crooner that his friends and family had grown to know and love had vanished in the twitch of an eye, and in his place stood a colder, angrier, flinchier Lukid. It was at this point that Glum decided to sign him. Having previously released two albums, plus tax, on the renowned Werk Discs label alongside Actress, Lone and Zomby, and with remixes on labels such as Ghostly International and Black Acre, Lukid's more tranquil offerings of the past are now departed from in emphatic fashion, presenting the world with four tracks of raw Chicago House and Grime inspired dancefloor music. Lukid's first Glum release, 2010's 'Boxing Club' / 'Blind Spot' double-header, trod similar epic, brooding, rolling, expanded low end north London techno territory, and received support from artists such as The Black Dog, Falty DL, Actress and Grovskoper. 'Spitting Bile' is a name not to be forgotten, and confusion is good. Let the record show it thus. (Sincerely, GLUM)

Mob Tactics always bring the pressure with their squelchy synths and lashing beats. 'Hit The Lights' should have been called 'Hit Every Bloody Frequency On The Scale' as this tune nearly blew up my desktop speakers. On the other side 'The Machai' does much the same, we're so excited about these producers and think they're gonna blow any second.

This dirty bass fatty is Mungo's most pulled-up riddim this year, and one of the most instantly catchy tunes they've ever released . With vocals recorded in Jamaica and Glasgow from undiscovered raw talent I Bogle, and UK veteran Kenny Knots, both sides are pure rotts-bass fire, augmented with extras in the shape a deliciously stripped instrumental riddim version of 'Bogle', and a finely crafted dub for 'Gimme Gimme'.

'Bokoboko' comes from the Japanese, like the other track titles, and means 'uneven', 'hollow-sounding' - adjectives aptly describing the album's crooked, dynamic grooves as well as the many percussively resounding instruments. Friedman, recognizable more or less by the sound of the ten instrumental tracks, plays prepared oil barrels/steel drums, all kinds of wood and metal percussion, gongs, monochord, a home-made rubber-band guitar, organ, synthesizer, and electric guitar. He is sometimes joined by Hayden Chisolm (wind instruments), Joseph Suchy (guitar), Daniel Schröter (bass), as well as, making his first guest appearance, Takeshi Nishimoto, a Berlin-based Japanese musician playing the sarod, a traditional Indian string instrument.

So, the ever-timely collective at MiMM have decided enough is enough and it's about time the left-of-centre techno producer brought his own tunes to the table. Title track 'Cuckup' operates in the realms of the cinematic, with stunning chords dripping and bending their way through a soft terrain that is only interrupted by percussion which scuttles the track forward like little cracks of white noise. On the backside, there's the dancefloor-driven duo of 'Blergzz' and 'Frames'.The former is the most tub-thumping and industrial tune of the EP with distorted garage vibes, an air of Blawan, and a raw pulsating bassline, which has already proved itself a veritable destroyer given its limited airings in public thus far. 'Frames' has the influence of Lukas' healthy fascination of German techno written all over it. Reminding you that you're still all there, the friendly 4/4 kick grounds you in actuality, whilst the analogue monster synth, which rears its head throughout (much like to Caribou's anthem 'Ye Ye') makes you pleased to find you're not quite in reality either. As one of the original pioneering forces in dubstep, Distance has unleashed a series of hard-hitting, no compromise singles over the last seven years, and two highly-acclaimed albums on the respected electronica imprint Planet Mu; 'My Demons' and more recently, 'Repercussions'. 2011 saw Distance release a single with major label Island Records ('Falling') as well as delivering a precision mix for the esteemed Tempa 'Dubstep All Stars' DJ mix series. Taking a rare excursion away from releasing on his own excellent Chestplate Recordings, Tectonic is very happy to welcome Distance back for this fine release. Restrained but ruff-nek and most definitely ready for action, 'Reboot' has been tearing up clubs over the latter part of 2011. Chiming in with a riff that sounds like a demented modem being fed through a hungry distortion pedal, Distance builds the tension all the way to the drop ... then in come the Distance subs - perfectly formed and totally powerful - charging the rhythm with a deadly purpose. Big support from Youngsta, Mala, Pinch and many more has already been forthcoming for this leading track.Inverting the wax reveals the devastating 'Bazurk'. Moving towards the end of the year and it's time for a temperature change as Critical gets ice cold with the talents of D&B scene newcomer, Foreign Concept. Although a relatively fresh face Foreign Concept has already made quite a name for himself have signed tunes to the likes of Samurai, Ingredients, Shogun and Commercial Suicide. Here Kasra picks possibly the cream of the crop with a release that has been hitting clubs hard all over for the past few months. Sometimes the only answer is 'Mob Justice'. A staggered break, industrial fx and drifting pads open it up with the by now familiar to most 'hang from the gallows' vocal that signals the drop into some enormous droning sub-bass with twisted fills and oldskool amen edits. Cuts deep in the mix on any worthy sound system; a Critical anthem for all the Fabric regulars. Flipping over and label boss Kasra joins him in the studio for a joint venture with devastatingly good consequences. Kicking off with a more regular two-step break, piano chords and old soul vox 'Show You' rolls into a bouncing stepper with a surging b-line that keeps things moving with pace. One for the marching crew and another good sign of Kasra's own production progress. Definitely much for to come from in the future from Foreign Concept.

On the A side we find Estonian Dubstep don L-OW (PROJECT:squared, Z-Audio, On The Edge) tackle 'Listen to Me' in formidable atmospheric fashion whilst Disgu!se themselves weigh in at 120 BPM on the AA for a minimal Tech House rework of their song 'Camera'. This is the first release on Disgu!se's own Heartfelt Records imprint, with more releases due in 2012.

Rush-released on LP following huge demand for the CD version, 'On-U Sound Presents Lee Scratch Perry Nu Sound And Version' - to give it it's full title - contains reworked, remixed and re-interpretated versions of 12 Adrian Sherwood-produced Lee Perry classics, including one extra bonus mix only available on this double vinyl pressing. Reggae legend Lee 'Scratch' Perry first began working with On-U Sound in the late 1980s. Initially working with Style Scott's Dub Syndicate rhythm section, he then collaborated with Adrian Sherwood on 'Time Boom X De Devil Dead' in 1987 and 'From The Secret Laboratory' in 1990. He would return to the label in 2008 to release 'The Mighty Upsetter' and it's companion-piece 'Dub Setter'. The tracks on this album see Lee Perry receive some of the most radical treatment his work has ever had, as his distinctive vocals bob and weave in the midst of bass, rave riddims and extreme experimentation fashioned from the imaginations of some of today's most cutting-edge, dub-influenced producers. Newly commissioned versions by Bullion, Congo Natty, Dialect & Kosine, and Adrian Sherwood make their exclusive debut appearances here, alongside productions plucked from the sought-after series of limited 12's by Kode9, Mala of Digital Mystikz, Moody Boyz, Horsepower Productions, and Pempi. All original recordings produced by Adrian Sherwood.

Necessary Mayhem producer Curtis Lynch aka Da Grynch has come up with another musical masterpiece with a new riddim named The Gorilla, probably the strongest beat the label has unleashed so far, charged with a super heavy bass line and crushing drums. Founded early in 2011, Orientis Records aims to introduce new deeper and emotive dimensions to dubstep and other bass musics, by working with artists already breaking the surface, and seeking out underplayed talents deserving of the limelight. For their third release, Orientis welcomes the Bristol based duo Killa and Instinct. Over the last year this duo has sculpted their own unique deep, dark and minimal sound, similar to the early foundation sounds of dubstep, making a heavy impact in the scene and gaining support and recognition from a wide range of DJs. A side 'Revolt' is a solo production by Instinct; starting with a unique distorted kick drum sound that rolls along with sparse percussion and spacious metallic re-verbs, the tune then drops into some pure heavy weight sub, accompanied by ghostly choral atmospherics and scattered percussion rhythms guaranteed to get the body moving in any room. On the flip is Killa & Instinct's remix of Orientis label owner Thelem's 'Drones', which twists up the original with the use of crashing claps and sparse percussion, a hard-hitting pulsating sub, and droning sci-fi atmospherics.

Knuckleduster, the trans-atlantic collaboration of electronica/sound artist Robert Lippok (Germany) and trans-cultural pioneer Debashis Sinha (Canada/India) began through a mutual fascination with sound and sound production. Based on long discussions in Toronto, Berlin, and via internet, Lippok and Sinha created a foundation for music making based on the respect of each other's work. Their first collaboration, a live concert in Toronto in 2007, went so well that they decided to make the duo a continuing international performance project.

Sebastian Krakota has quietly set about his mission to dnb greatness in a short space of time. He has already featured on Critical's 'Modulations' series, CIA and his massive 'Be Myself' on our 'Recipe Book LP' in the summer made everyone take note. This is his first full solo 12' and what a belter it is. 'Scraper' is a superb dj tool, straight to the point with it's high energy pads and killer bass drop. While 'Tunnel Vision' is a lighter affair, with an uplifting vibe. Both tracks are very current & shows how much this young Dj has to offer already.
