Beats Vinyl New Releases - News

Prayer returns to Black Acre with the 'Vital' EP, a heavy four tracker which blurs the lines between sorrowful sounds and high voltage club energy - limited to 200 hand stamped vinyl.
'A four track EP that delves further into his defiantly outsider sound. Living somewhere near the intersection of classical, jungle and ambient' - The Ransom Note
'This atmospheric modern jungle track has a bit of Burial's sad-but-sweet emotional tinge to it' - Resident Advisor

PRAYER blurs the lines between sorrowful sounds and high-voltage club energy in VITAL; a piece of art that refuses to be boxed off by genre or stereotype.

Opener FEAR explores the producers love of film music; a dark sci-fi landscape punctuated with drums and melodic synths, a Bladerunner-esque track. Moving on, A2 'I'M STILL HERE' is an anthem, a nostalgic mix of hardcore, jungle and classical influences with a DIY, rough and ready feel.

On the other side, PRAYER shows his talent for the piano with B1 - KIND, finessing the skills that reflect his first adventures in sound. It's an emotive, stripped back number. The final track is B2 - VITAL, another drum-heavy, weighty track that sounds only like PRAYER - as ideal for the club as it is for headphones.

As naturally as X-Altera came to be, the music itself is a unique refraction of styles and bold, contradictory approaches. But it all blends together uncannily well—maybe because of the decades of production experience that went into it, or the holistic mindset Mullinix took from the beginning. The name itself reflects as much. "X-Altera references two things. It comes from Latin—ex altera—which means 'from or of the other side.' Which could be a metaphysical thing, or you could say it's jungle ethics brought into the techno world. And I spelled it this way as a reference to X-101 and X-102, the Underground Resistance project of Je- Mills, Mike Banks, and Robert Hood." Detroit meets London, deep techno meets drum & bass, old meets new—X-Altera unites these threads in order to take them in unknown directions.A fresh debut from one of the most vital electronic producers of the last 20 years, Tadd Mullinix (Dabrye, JTC, Charles Manier), who looks to the past of techno and jungle to find a new ways forward.

Despite a history that dates back to 1990, Billy Daniel Bunter and Liquid team up for their debut vinyl release together.. The 4-track Mitsu EP features four banging slabs of rave beats, from the rapid early 90s, Dalston-era breaks of Mitsu Bishi to the hard Euro driving bass of Novor.

Limited to only 500 copies.

sweet old school jungle flave.

As I'm sure you're aware D&B doesn't pass through state51 that often but here we have a 12" that can quite rightly sit proudly amongst our more usual esoteric offerings.

With legendary label Juice, Rhythm Rollers present these 2017 remixes of Undercover Agent's 1994 classic 'Babylon'. The original is without a doubt one of the most highly rated jungle tracks and this time round DJ Future has delivered an absolute tearing remake and brought it into the 21st century. On side B, for the original heads who loved the first press Blade Runner has rebuilt the original masterpiece from scratch.

DJ support: Andy C, Randall, Uncle Dugs, Ray Keith and many more.

* The two label runners combine forces for the deeply old skool EP. Saiyan and Luna-C bring the simple joy of the old rave sound to their EP, with two tracks cut in the style of the early breakbeat scene of 1992, and one track that stems from a little later, when things got more 4x4 and slightly tougher. All the tracks on the EP are made with a majority of hardware rather than the standard software of today, and the result is a warm, analogue, and absolutely true to its era EP of rolling breaks, deep basslines and uplifting vibes!

Bogwoppa is back with some serious tunes recovered from DAT! This time we bring you a 4 tracker of some of the tracks from Undercover Elephant. These tracks come from various releases on the Bogwoppa label. Still sounding incredible nearly 25 years on. Ltd to 300 copies!

* After nearly 10 years, KFA returns to vinyl. As a label, KFA was widely loved for its ability to shift styles and genres, always hitting slightly off center, to produce such off kileter classics as the original 'Truffle Shuffle', a jungle anthem that gets a much deserved remix on this EP. New Signee Scartat brings the pain with monstrously heavy beats in 'Role Model', which KF Digital man of the moment Bucksta keeps it slightly mellower with 'Killer Sound', leaving Luna-C & Mr Arthur to bring the dancehall vibes with 'Judgement'.

Setting forth musical excellence for more than half a decade, Rotterdam-based imprint Mindtrick Records is unleashing a complementary direction through their newly established sub-label Mind Dubs. The prime focus of its sonic output being centered around the characteristics of Dub and Jungle - and both globally evolving styles. Especially but not exclusively residing in up-tempo territory, label owner and highly talented producer Atiq launches the discography with three releases of his own, being served with an excellent selection of MC's. Starting the journey properly, he's releasing its debut with highly skilled vocalist Daddy Freddy, renowned for his fluency and skillful display of rapid expressions.
Catalogued 'MDUBS001' - the Jamaican MC managed to embody the plethora of his no- holds-barred style alongside Atiq's original 'From Dusk Till Dawn'. The collaboration of his new-school Jungle vibrations and highly energetic vocal transmission of Daddy Freddy results in hefty delight for bass music aficionados around the world. Topping off the madness, we're met with a power remix employed by the soaring artist TMSV from the boiling pot of the Netherlands, who's recent feats include a release on the revered imprint Cosmic Bridge, run by Om Unit.Generously embedded in a sea of twirling delays, the resourceful control of atmospheric space is luring the primitive listener along an intensifying rhythm. Inconspicuously introducing the energetic MC, the emerging tension is being let loose with intense and unceasingly driving sub weight. Taking no prisoners, as the forward-thinking arrangement keeps positively surprising keen listeners with cunning sound design, the Jamaican vocalist exhibits his most desirable qualities on this lively piece of music - Jungle at its finest. Still feeling the aftershocks, the flip-side remix by Utrecht's TMSV introduces a more trippy side - as if the track was gasping for air before the complete sound frequency spectrum unfolds and vibrates itself into every single fiber of your consciousness. Anthemic pads unfold along thrilling percussion works to fill the gaps in between the massive bassline foundation - soaked in an inventive take on the proficient vocals, ranging 'From Dusk Till Dawn'.

This one tops off the round of White House reissues this time. 4 tracks from Dragon Fly that still sound amazing. Though his career only lasted a few years he put out some outstanding music on R&S, BTB Records and other labels. But his 2 EPs on White House are stand out releases from his back catalogue.

This is Om Unit's legendary Philip D Kick alias brought back after 7 years in retirement with it's first original material!
5 incredible Jungle Footwork fireworks from Om Unit's legendary 'Philip D Kick' alias. Adding Acid, 4/4 UK Hardcore and sound killing Amens to the sound he spawned in 2011, when he created 3 x Philip D Kick 'Footwork Jungle' EPs, and took classic Jungle anthems and footworked them. It could be argued that Om Unit's 'Philip D Kick' alias spawned an entire movement despite being immediately retired. As label boss Fracture says "At the time, this was mind-blowing." So 7 years later it is with great pleasure and genuine excitement Astrophonica present Philip D Kick's first original material - 'Pathways' - which also features Teklife/Chicago Footwork originator DJ Spinn for the guest feat. on "Vibe Off".

Astrophonica proudly presents Philip D Kick - Pathways' and we'll start by passing you straight over to Label boss Fracture...

This is really a special record for Astrophonica. It could be argued that Jim Coles aka Om Unit's Philip D Kick alias spawned an entire movement which dictated the sound of future. The three Philip D Kick 'Footwork Jungle' EPs released in 2011 saw Jim take classic Jungle anthems and footwork them. At the time, this was mind-blowing, I'd never heard anything like it. Even though I had been checking for Footwork and of course, have a history and love for Jungle. These edits spawned a generation of younger producers and revitalised older producers like myself. It also bought Jim and I together as friends and later on collaborators. So it is with great pleasure and genuine excitement that I present to you Philip D Kick's first original material - Pathways.'

And now over to the man himself for a few words... Philip D Kick, Jim, Om Unit...

"I decided once I was done with my Om Unit 'Self' project that I wanted to have some real fun with breaks again, and something drew me back to working at 160bpm, I wanted to make some more fun light-hearted stuff, and so I felt like returning to the Philip project would be a nice way of not only re-visiting something that was such a vibe back in the day but also now that all the fuss around so called 'jungle footwork' as a 'thing' has died down."

Pathways opens with 'In Formation' which sets off with familiar breaks before descending into uncharted Acid Footwork Jungle territory. 'Work That' traces the 4/4 UK hardcore lineage to plot a new course for the dance floor. 'Drown' draws energy from drum-funk to discover an ethereal breakdown that leads to a sound killing Amen finale. Two worlds collide on the same course in 'Vibe Off' with Chicago based Footwork pioneer DJ Spinn claiming he's vibing off the beat and honestly, who can blame him 'For Real' is a fitting ending to Pathways. A lights out and headphones on journey from moody drum machine rhythms to euphoric synth lines.

Big Jungle cool style... Defenitly dancefloor and sweet to play, bringing a pure clean sound (improving records after records...) . The Heijra remix goes more amen break and gives the jungle energy... Bourgois Concept is a good finish of a decent political claiming ! USA Jungle darkness !

Tim Reaper needs no introduction, but we'll give him one anyway. This prolific and talented London-based producer has carved out a formidable reputation within the scene over the last few years, with releases on imprints such as Blu Mar Ten, DSC14, Scientific Wax, 117 Recordings, Skeleton Recordings and Repertoire to name but a few - he is a man who has become one of the most sought-after artists in Jungle/Drum N Bass, and not without reason.

* Eveson aka Dead Man's Chest returns with his 3rd EP for Ingredients. 'Farseer' is again a beast of an EP & a throwback to 1993 jungle. 4 killer tracks which complete the series and highly collectable, with the amazing artwork hand drawn by the artist himself.

Dj Support Friction, Hype, Klute, Kasra, Rob Da Bank, Ivy Lab, Om Unit, Break.

* Tune of the Month in DJ mag.
* Mixmag - 9/10

* Alex Eveson is a talented man. Not only has he made a name for great liquid tunes for labels such as Creative Source, V Recordings, Horizons, 31 Records & Ingredients, he is also a brilliant artist and graphic designer.

* So what was next Well his new monika 'Dead Man's Chest' which, when he sent over the demos we knew we had to release it. Four stunning oldskool jungle tracks written at 157bpm and he has really captured Tom & Jerry (4 Hero), 3rd party records & late 93 jungle music. 'All about u" is a fantastic journey, 'Revenant' has that classic jungle vibe, "Foundation days" is just deep dj Randall business & 'Dreamscapes' is a stunning atmospherical roller, absolutely nailed it too. We're really excited about this EP and maximum boost to Eveson aka Dead Man's Chest.

* Full release on raspberry ripple special clear vinyl with full artwork sleeve by the man himself.

After the first release in June 2016 and #002 following in early 2017, the Berlin- based imprint Through These Eyes is ready to announce the next release.
This time it features two heavy jungle tracks by austrian based artist Sun People.

On the name giving A-side of his Through These Eyes release Sun People uses an iconic vocal sample, adds a gut-wrenching '95 style bassline
and tops it all off with some of the finest razor sharp percussions in the genre to deliver one of the most stomping tunes you'll hear this summer.

Nu Gun on the flipside gets a lot more dubby with it's perfect jungle beat edits and moody chord stabs - all that laid out over a well known vocal sample.
It can easily be considered a prime example of Sun People's signature sound which is heavily rooted in Dub, Jungle and Juke/Footwork.

The Bremen based producer ILL_K was on the wishlist for a release on ThroughThese Eyes from day one. Why Well, i just love his precise and detailledsounddesign which always works on the dancefloor and just stands out. Bog-standard or random presets are not his thing, he is the man who takes risks andunusual ways until his expriments lead him to the expectional and unique soundsthat define his tracks.

"Herb Dub", the leading track from his TTE release, starts with a catchy but notoverused vocal sample, until ILL_K unleashes some heavy jungle breaks upon us.Then he unpretentiously switches into some halfstep rhythm just to spice things up a bit more.

"Glitch War" on the B-side already turned some heads and broke some legs on thedancefloor. Once you get into the groove of ILL_K's elaborated drumwork, there isno way out. He inhaled the aesthetics of 90ies techstep and jungle sounds and justspits them out in his very own and individual way.

After Four Years And Istari Lasterfahrers Last Mini-lp From 2014 He Is Now Back On The Dubcore Series With Four Tracks.

Flipside Starts Dubby With riddance', A Dark Jazzdub Track With A Rolling Bass Line And Hickuped Vocal Samples. Disjunced Percussions From The Echochamber And Wild Feedback Synth Explosions.

Big Big one here again ! Ragga Jungle and ragga Drum & bass dancefloor... Flavour number one !

Digital releases his second LP within 2 years entitled "Total Control". It's not a massive collab fest like his 2016 LP 'Synthesis' although, there's a few on there with artists Nomine, John B, Villem and Digital's Phantom Audio partner, Spirit. A strong Jungle vibe runs right through this LP. The opening track, 'Motherland' has crisp breaks, a bassline to die for and a haunting unforgettable vocal. Other highlights are Seba's lush remix of Digital & Response's, 'Silver Lining'. 'On The Rockz' sounds like a solid piece of 1998 drum and bass, 'Total Control' is superb and certainly one for the hardcore ravers, 'Dreamer' takes you on a journey you've never been before. Early support includes: Storm, Randall, Goldie, Klute, Jumping Jack Frost, Spirit, Nomine, Double O & Mantra.

* The Death To Digital series on Kniteforce serves to introduce new talent, and at the same time bring a wide variety of styles on to one EP. Still keeping within the 1991-1996 era, this EP brings together Ant To Be and Shadowplay, a collaboration resulting in a deceptively cheerful piano tune for the summer. Meanwhile, Luna-C & Saiyan do the exact opposite with 'Demogorgon' - possibly the darkest tune Kniteofrce has released since The Trip's 'Snowball' back in 1992. The style flips again to slightly faster and definitely a tad cheesier with Luna-C's 'My Kinda Rush, and the EP is rounded out with a rare 4x4 track in the 1996 hardcore style, 'Fat Hands' by Paul Bradley. So named because...well...no one knows.

* Dj Ham returns to Kniteforce with a superb 10' vinyl. Now largely known for his releases as Hamilton on D'n'B titan RAM records, Dj Ham has always been one of the most talented producers in either scene, and is respected as a pioneer and producer of some seriously classic tunes. His new Kniteforce 10' showcases his skill while keeping firmly within the old school soundscapes. Most Impressive is both dark and technoish, with twisted mentasms and a dark lords samples, while the inexplicably named Chicken Tune is a breezy, uplifting summer vibe anthem.

Kid Lib lets rip a double-A of heavy, atmostphere laden jungle for new label Foxy Jangle, from the good folk at Rua Sound.

A - Blue Dreamers:

Post apocalyptic peak time SoundSystem pressure is cut deep on this side with expert & infectious drum edits backed up by a pummeling bassline and amen assaults set against a sci-fi backdrop. Fans of SciWax style drum workouts and mid 90s Source Direct style atmospherics take note.

AA - That Special WayLush vocal sampling, drifting pads and soothing breaks give way to tightly chopped but smooth, rolling Amens on a solid foundation of bouncing 808s. The spirit of 94/95 is channeled strong here by the Green Bay Wax don, dancefloors melting into the night as the lights go down.

Response & Pliskin set fire to the rulebook and used it to cook up these two absolute masterclasses in far out Jungle Teknoism . At fifteen and thirteen minutes respectively, journey is an understatement, I've been playing Plastic Face almost in it's entirety at gigs and this track is seriously turning heads and moving bodies. These guys are gonna take things to another level in 2018, don't sleep on this one. - Eveson/DMC

* The Russian maestro strikes again. Following his widely praised debut EP, this second outing on Knitebreed should really cement Ant To Bes reputation as a man who can, and a man who does. Adding distinct jungle and dub elements to his already diverse sound, this EP once again runs through various styles of hardcore. Each track is beautifully crafted, sounding deceptively simple when, on closer examination, they are far from it. Any of these 4 tracks could have been the lead on the EP, as all 4 are perfectly balanced slices of true hardcore style.

Reso — the alias of London-based producer Alex Melia — returned to the dance music world in late 2017 with the inaugural release of his new RX0 label, Kodama, a four-track EP of spirited dance music. For the second release on the label, Reso has chosen two productions that act as a counterpoint of sorts to the first EP. Where RX001 was a broad mission statement, RX002 is a laser-focused burst of breaks, moods, and programming finesse.
