Minyo Crusaders - Echoes Of Japan LP 2x12"
MAIS036LP
Mais Um Discos
2x12inch07.08.202007.AUG.20

Hip-HopReggaeAfrobeatPopWorld MusicLatinFolk

Minyo Crusaders rework historic Japanese folk songs (min'yo) with Latin, African, Caribbean and Asian rhythms for their debut album 'Echoes of Japan'.

Releases from Ryuichi Sakamoto, Haruomi Hosono and Midori Takada have re-ignited global interest in Japanese music and 'Echoes of Japan' marks the arrival of a big band like no other.

'For Japanese people, min'yo is both the closest, and most distant, folk music' explains band-leader Katsumi Tanaka: 'We may not feel it in our daily, urban lives, yet the melodies, the style of singing and the rhythm of the taiko drums are engrained in our DNA'. Initially indifferent to min'yo, a tragic event in recent Japanese history set Tanaka on his current path: 'Following the Tohoku earthquake of 2011, I reflected on my life, work and identity. A fan of world music, I began searching for Japanese roots music I could identify
with. Discovering mid-late 20th century acts Hibari Misora, Chiemi Eri and the Tokyo Cuban Boys, I was
captivated by their eccentric arrangements and how they mixed min'yo with Latin and jazz.'

Originally sung by fishermen (Kushimoto Bushi; Mamurogawa Ondo), coal miners (Tanko Bushi) and sumo wrestlers (Sumo Jinku), these songs deal with topics such as the returning spirits of ancestors (Hohai Bushi), Japan's smallest bird (Toichin Bushi) and a bride's love for her husband's pockmarked face (Otemoyan).

Minyo Crusaders are one of the most hyped acts on the Tokyo music scene that went national in 2018 through festivals such as Fuji Rock. The band features veterans of the Tokyo roots music scene such as bassist DADDY U (Ska Flames), keyboardist Moe (Kidlat), sax player Koichiro Osawa (Matt Sounds/ J.J. Session), Yamauchi Stephan (J.J. Session), percussionist Mutsumi Kobayashi (Banda de la Mumbia), conga player Irochi (Cubatumb) and vocalist Meg (DJ collective Tokyo Sabroso).

- Wild blend of Japanese folk music with cumbia, boogaloo, Ethio jazz, Afro funk + more
- Ry Cooder, Mario Galeano (Ondatropica/Frente Cumbiero), Clap! Clap! are all fans
- European touring plans for autumn/fall 2019
- Includes Japanese lyrics + English translations

- Lacquers cut @ The Carvery

HouseDiscoFunkyItaloNu DiscoHip-HopFunk

The Italian disco masters are back with four heavy funk-fuelled vinyl cuts.

Cabasa has off-kilter bass, Rhodes, dirty drums and grainy samples knitted together in to a groove heavy enough to get your Gran going. Hypnotic, trippy and disco at its finest.
Congo Club goes full cowbell and 80's drums. A chanted vocal wonks out over a Rhodes that weaves all kind of magic, then the lead drops and critical mass is reached.
The title track cracks on at a pace with synth strings, flanging bass, distorted drums and keys tying it all together. Latin percussion is dropped over a a sung sample and the swing is on.
Summer of Sam takes a more soulful diversion but keeps a foot firmly in the disco camp. The track builds with spacey atmospherics in to a track that will work in any situation.

Nowadays Records
2x12inch06.03.201906.MAR.19

HouseDeepSlowHip-HopR & BHip-Hop

* Five years have passed since the first release of Nowadays Records.Launched with Fakear's signature (seen on Ninja Tune), the label founded by oOgo and Chomsky from La Fine Equipe has seen the growth of many projects such as Clément Bazin, Everydayz, Phazz (who produced for Travis Porter, did remixes for Soulection, Interscope and Mad Decent), Leska, Jumo and many others, all of them carried by the irreplaceable quartet of La Fine Equipe.

Five years during which Nowadays Records released 75 EPs and LPs, toured in and outside of France, and generated several hundred millions stream plays. With its heart in the right place, its eyes on the emerging scene and its ears open on the world, Nowadays built itself a singular and racy identity through the time. Fed by inspirations like Stone Throw, Ninja Tune or Warp, the label places itself as an ambassador of a fast growing scene, defending it through its shows, releases, and events like the two Boiler Room shows in Paris and London.Without sticking itself to a musical gender, Nowadays keeps on widening its horizons by working with foreign artists and mixing the inspirations through its releases, driven by its sound and visual trademarks and aesthetics.

In order to celebrate those five years spent defending as many projects as musical crushes they had, and to thank its community made of more than 150 000 followers around the world, Nowadays unveils the 'Nowadays V', double album with a digital and physical release on November 30th.Through this compilation, Nowadays gathers on one side the tracks that marked its history and, on the other side, unreleased tracks that sometimes lead to collaborations such as the one between Clément Bazin and Leska, or the one between Fakear and La Fine Equipe.

Errol Walker - Better Future / Future Dub

Hip-HopReggaeReggae-Dub

Positivity flows through this single from Errol 'Bagga' Walker. Born and raised in Kingston's Trench Town area, Walker cut a few tunes as vocalist but is better known as a bass player. In particular he was one of the session musicians that played bass on a ton of classics at Studio One.

Up-tempo roots of the best kind, this single skips along full of optimism, and Perry is fairly restrained on his production, letting the song make its point. Comes in a hand stamped bag.

K.O.G & The Zongo Brigade - Wahala Wahala

Pura Vida Sounds
2x12inch19.03.201919.MAR.19

Hip-HopAfrobeatPopDancefloor

Sheffield-based Afro-fusion 8-piece band K.O.G & the Zongo Brigade release of their debut album 'Wahala Wahala', via Pura Vida Sounds/Heavenly Sweetness.

Under the guidance of the outrageously talented Ghanaian force of nature Kweku Sackey, aka K.O.G, and the whirlwind of energy that is Jamaican rapper

Franz Von, the Zongo Brigade deliver infectious, high-energy West African grooves via Sheffield, drawing on Afrobeat, soul, funk, rock, hip hop and reggae

which has fast gained recognition in London and all over the UK. K.O.G's signature mix of high-energy songs, raps, operatic vocal effects, along

with the hard-hitting patois raps from the spirited Franz Von and a dedicated band of serious musical badmen, has led the band to perform on some of

the biggest stages including Glastonbury, Reading and Leeds Festivals and numerous clubs and venues around Europe.

Deeply rooted in stories from Africa, the album draws on love, peace and social issues. K.O.G & the Zongo Brigade's motto 'Unity in Diversity' stems

from Kweku's African origins and also embraces the eclectic mix of nationalities which make up the band.

With a backdrop of unmistakeable African rhythms that include electric brass, thunderous percussion and sharp-edge guitar, 'Wahala Wahala' takes

possession of the body as the words excite the mind. Racism, rejection, inequality, exile - the subject matter is always serious but the delivery irresistibly

upbeat and rhythmic, guaranteed to get the feet moving because in every pain, there is also joy. K.O.G & the Zongo Brigade have received support across national and global

radio including BBC Radio 6 Music, BBC Introducing Sheffield and BBC Radio 1.

Mac Miller - Watching Movies With The Sound Off (2x12" Deluxe Edition)
MILLERWATCH001
REALDJS
2x12inch15.03.201915.MAR.19

Hip-HopHip-Hop

With the release of his sophomore album, Pittsburgh native Mac Miller goes up against some of hip-hop's heavyweights to shatter the public perception and prove that he is a talented lyricist.

Miller made a name for himself several years ago with the release of his popular mixtapes , gaining a following from the party-heavy beats and whimsical rhymes. Miller's first album Blue Slide Park debuted on the charts at the number one spot of Billboard's 100 making it the first indie album to snag the number one spot since Tha Dogg Pound's Dogg Food in 1995. Despite the commercial success of BSP, Miller's debut album received mixed reviews and he was lambasted and accused of being one-dimensional. Determined to prove himself as a serious lyricist, Miller's Watching Movies With The Sound Off goes toe to toe with Cole and West. Picking up where his 2012 mixtape Macadelic left off, Miller continues his psychedelic journey through hip-hop with a more serious undertone to his lyrics.

Miller once again pulls double duty and puts on the producer's hat of his alter ego Larry Fisherman. The 21-year-old handles most of the production on the album but he enlists the help of several others including Pharrelll Williams, Diplo, The Alchemist, Clams Casino, Flying Lotus and more. It's clear Miller has grown just as much as a producer as he has as a rapper. Sonically, WMWTSO is a complex and challenging conglomerate of trippy, acid-laced sounds that mesh well with Miller's laidback flow.

WMWTSO may seem like a far leap from his debut album, but with the several projects released in between the two albums, Miller has been on this path for a while. Accomplishing the goal of proving he's more than a flash in a pan and can make more than party hits, Miller's sophomore album WMWTSO holds its own against his colleagues that share the same release date. A must have on vinyl for any fan!

Hip-HopAfrobeatPopJazz

22a present this two-track 7' single from this Tenderlonious-led jazz quartet. Strictly limited to 500 copies worldwide, this is going to fly out!

Ruby Rushton kicked down the door for the UK jazz renaissance back in 2015, and continue to lead the way in 2019 with this new genre-defying recording. The music is rooted in the spiritual concepts of jazz heroes such as John

Coltrane and usef Lateef, whilst adopting influences from hip hop, Afrobeat and the UK underground culture.'Eleven Grapes' is a song that was first conceived back in 2013. Its catchy

time signature and playful melody fit together perfectly. The intricate interplay between Tenderlonious's flute and Aidan Shepherd's keys transport you back to the heyday of Bennie Maupin and Herbie Hancock.

'One Mo' Dram 'is a tune reworked from an early Tenderlonious studio production. The groove is deeply rooted in traditional West African rhythm. Tim Carnegie's tough drum break builds and wraps itself around a slick trumpet

solo from Nick Walters, before rolling back into the intricate melody that binds the track together.

Is good music good for anything Well, you are supposed to connect to it. Make you dance. Feel happy, sad, fearless, in love, jealous and righteous and so much more. And hit you like five coffees in the morning and a few shots of cognac at night. The Limboos just perfected the recipe on their new album, Baia (Penniman Records, 2019).

The Limboos do what they wanna do. They know what they like and they know what you like even though that might be two different things. They work in their own rhythm and it's proven you can move to that rhythm. Everybody lost a few bucks at the end of the night but nobody cares. Everybody woke up a little tired and achy and didn't feel like going to work. But they did and did it even harder the next three times that week. Lucky you caught them on a Monday night.

With Baia, their third album in five years, The Limboos will transport you, without asking, to a sweet and viscous spiritual ceremony that crosses paths between Chicago from Santiago de Cuba. This new one again produced by Mike Mariconda and with 100% of their own songs you get eleven new lessons in class and sweaty elegance. Check the single "Where Did She Go" and see. You'll just dance and maybe fall down from exhaustion and make you do things you swore you would never do. Ignoring this rotten postmodern world, they don't try to transport you to when the times were better. They are just making better times- show by show, record by record. So you got lucky and found something you can listen to in the car, the bar, the barn, at work and even on public transport. But if you choose the last one beware for pickpockets, it's worth more than the cash you are carrying.

The Limboos are: Roi Fontoira - Vocals, Guitar; Sergio Alarcón - Organ, Guitar, Percussion, Backing Vocals; Daniela Kennedy - Drums, Backing Vocals; Santiago Sacristán - Double Bass, Backing Vocals; Dani Niño - Baritone Sax

Johnny Clarke & King Tubby & Dillinger & Prince Jazzbo feat. Tommy McCook & The legendary Aggrovators & The Mighty Diamonds - Soul Jazz Records presents Bunny Lee: Dreads Enter the Gates with Praise - The Mighty Striker Shoots the Hits!

Soul Jazz Records presents this new collection featuring the heavy 70s roots reggae of Bunny
Lee - a living legend, one of the last of the great Jamaican record producers who helped shape
and define reggae music in the 1970s from a small island sound into an internationally
successful musical genre.
From teenage fan to young record plugger for Duke Reid, Sir Coxsone and other early
pioneering Jamaican musical entrepreneurs, Lee has spent his whole professional life inside the
Kingston music industry. In the 1970s he rose up to become one of the major record producers
in Jamaica alongside Lee 'Scratch' Perry and the other 'small axe' producers who broke the
dominance of the 'big tree' producers that had ruled Jamaican music in the 1960s.
Featuring some of the heaviest Jamaican artists, including Johnny Clarke, King Tubby, Dillinger,
Prince Jazzbo, Tommy McCook, The legendary Aggrovators (featuring Sly and Robbie), The
Mighty Diamonds and more, the album is a rollercoaster ride of rare, deep and classic 1970s
roots, dub and DJ sounds.
During this era, 'flying cymbals', crashing reverbs, dark echoing thunderclap gunshots and
other 'implements of sound' filled his record productions as Bunny Lee explored the outer limits
of dub with his friend King Tubby in the mix on wild versions that accompanied any 45. A
Bunny Lee record provides a creative and mysterious hidden guide to reggae music itself, a
double-sided three-minute intangible history lesson etched in wax.
Bunny Lee was one of the first Jamaican producers to travel to England in the late 1960s, at
the beginning of the nascent British reggae music industry as record companies such as
Trojan, Pama and others began licensing Jamaican music in the UK to supply the expanding
West Indian communities living up and down England. Lee encouraged other Jamaican
producers to do the same, including Lee Perry, Harry J and Niney The Observer and also
became a conduit between the British music industry and numerous younger Island-based
producers - a frequent flyer reggae ambassador, a musical courier exchanging tapes for
royalties.
Bunny Lee's first recordings in the late 1960s were mainly rock steady but as the 70s
approached the music soon began to mutate and slow down into 'reggae' as the sound became
heavier, more rootsy and the sound itself began to change with the explosion of dub.
Lee was at the forefront to this dramatic musical shift into roots reggae and by this time had
become a major producer, capable of working with whoever he chose as world-famous singers,
DJs and musicians lined up to work with the charismatic man. Lee also employed a fluid but
stable set of crack session musicians who he named The Aggrovators.
Most of the recordings featured here come from the mid 70s, a time when Bunny Lee was
definitely in the zone, releasing heavyweight singles at an almost unstoppable rate. Bunny
Lee's career stretches over five decades and he has upwards of 2,000 production credits on
vinyl.
This album comes with extensive sleevenotes, an interview with Bunny Lee and exclusive
photography. The album is available as a CD pack with 24-page booklet, massive triple LP vinyl
with digital download code, house inner and full notes, as well as digital album.

LATE NIGHT TALES
2x12inch01.01.201901.JAN.19

Hip-HopFunkSoul

Floating Points is such a good fit for Late Night Tales that it's kind of surprising that this album didn't come around sooner. The artist known to his friends as Sam Shepherd doesn't disappoint here, and drops a personal collection of global soul, ambient, jazz, and folk treasures, aimed to reflect the stillness of night. Tip!

Floating Points'—real name Sam Shepherd—music taste is tricky to define, ranging from ethereal classical at one end to coruscating techno at the other. Similarly, his production career has ranged from early experiments in dance music with breakout records such as the Shadows EP and collaborating with legendary Gnawa master Mahmoud Guinia to his expansive album Elaenia.

This Late Night Tales excursion into the depths of the evening is said to reflect his broad tastes. There's the gorgeous 'Via Làctea," taken from Carlos Walker's debut album, Bobby Wright's 'Blood Of An American' and Robert Vanderbilt's gospel reworking of Manchild's 'Especially For You." At the other end of the music scale are the modernists, such as Québécoise Kara-Lis Coverdale, who weighs in with 'Moments In Love," Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith, whose 'Milk' is an exercise in tranquility, while Sarah Davachi's meditative mix-opener offers respite from a weary world.

KONTEMPORARY
7"-Vinyl09.11.201809.NOV.18

Hip-HopFunkPopDisco

Christian 'Kon' Taylor's KonTemporary imprint goes from strength to strength! This, the third release sees the Boston crate diggin' selector, producer and remixer extraordinaire reworking the mighty sounds of L.T.D.'s roof-raising 'Love To The World'.

L.T.D., an acronym of Love, Togetherness and Devotion were a highly respected and dope 70's Soul and Jazz Funk outfit fronted by the powerful Gospel-tinged vocals of one Jeffrey Osborne, whose powerful tenor voice gave their music some serious weight! Heavily revered among music lovers and often sampled throughout hip-hop and dance music (check out 'Cuttin it up', Llove ballad', 'Holdin on' & 'Back in love' for proof!) One of the group's biggest and most well-known cuts was 'Love to the world', a track that got love from the hardcore dancers, B-boys and old-school heads alike. As usual, Kon has taken this classic into a new realm with his own unique arrangement and use of ad-libs and unheard instrumentation, all taken from the master tapes and lovingly reworked. It's a difficult task to breathe new life into the classics, but Kon always comes up trumps with his fresh ideas and expert ear. Now you can catch this super limited 7" version of these killer mixes, all expertly tweaked by Kon and mixed by Scott 'Supe' Stallone at Found Sound, Philadelphia.

Hip-HopR & BFunk

"As members of one of New Orleans' most esteemed soul/funk groups of the 60's and 70's (The Delltones) Roland Treaudo & Manuel Herrera Jr. made a name for themselves recording iconic albums and sharing the stage with the likes of Lou Rawls, The Commodores, Dorothy Moore, Etta James, Bobby Womack and Jackie Wilson.
As a duo, Roland & Manwell went on to produce some of the best electronic funk tracks of the time and this record is our effort to shine a light on these underappreciated masters.
The tracks on this new 12" are some of their home recordings from 1980-1985 which showcase their massive talent as composers, instrumentalists and vocalists. Truly a must-have record for anyone interested in obscure 80's Synth Funk."
