Hold It Down can be seen as the rebirth of Das EFX. The American hip-hop duo worked together with acclaimed producers as DJ Premier and Pete Rock. The beats aren't the only superior factor of this album, the lyrics are just as good. It's one of those underground classics which didn't came the whole way to reach the surface. But nowadays it can be seen as one of the finer hip-hop albums from the early nineties. It is an uncompromisingly and raw album, where Das EFX changed his style to one with harder edges.
Hold It Down is available as a limited edition of 1000 individually numbered copies on green marbled (Solid blue, yellow & red mixed) coloured vinyl.

Jaco Pastorius was widely acknowledged for his skills as an electric bass player. He died in 1987 at age 35 following a violent incident at a Fort Lauderdale drinking establishment. This self-titled album was Pastorius' solo debut and was originally released in 1976. The bass pieces are excellent and a good showcase of how skilful and talented Jaco was. His virtuous solo's heading off in different directions, what makes it a glorious debut album. The fact that he was only 24 years old when he recorded this album makes it even more impressive.
American jazz bassist Jaco Pastorius recorded several with the influential band Weather Report and several solo albums. He has been lauded as one of the best electric bassists of all time.
Jaco Pastorius is available as a limited edition of 2.000 individually numbered copies on silver vinyl.

No deep dive into the Local Records back catalogue would be complete without a reissue of the prized jewel that is Jaye Williams 'Let Me Be The One'.
Electro tinged street soul from the N17 ends, with ever reliable label boss and in-house (literally, in his front room) producer John Collins working his magic once again. That sultry voice Local singer, Jaye Williams blessing the mic with some of the most dynamite lyrics Local Records had to offer...'I can see that you've been looking, for a love that's new. Well let me tell you I've got something cooking... I know you're feeling hungry and I've got enough for two'.
The flip houses the instrumental, bringing Tim Sanders on tenor sax and John Kpai on guitar to the DIY living room booth and adding another layer of sensuality to compliment that punchy synth bass oh so well. Think smokey, low lit bars, Cabernet Sauvignon flowing as easy as the conversation - this is one for the lovers and those that got away.
Pushing £100 on Discogs 'Let Me Be The One' is A grade, rarefied street soul gear, long buried deep within the wantlists of many a collector, who never thought they'd see this glorious day.

Originally released in 1982 on the short-lived Lyncell Records imprint, BBE Music is excited to
present the brilliant and ultra-rare album 'African Sunset' by South African band Kabasa.
Formed in Soweto by vocalist and bassist Tata 'TNT' Sibeko, guitarist Robert 'Doc' Mthalane
(described as the Jimi Hendrix of South Africa) and percussionist Oupa Segwai, Kabasa
recorded a trio of powerful albums in early-80s Johannesburg. Having been part of the
iconic Afro-rock band Harari, the first ever local black pop band to appear on South African
TV, Mthalane and Segwai decamped to team up with Sibeko for Kabasa's eponymous
debut in 1980.
'African Sunset' is their third and final album and is produced by the band with songwriting
duties shared between founding members Sibeko and Mthalane as well as newly-joined
percussionist and flautist Mabote 'Kelly' Petlane. Taking in psychedelic rock influences
alongside shades of jazz, funk and more traditional sounds, 'African Sunset' is a timeless
album, standing out to this day thanks to its heavy grooves, great songwriting and superior
musicianship.
With original pressings of 'African Sunset' now virtually impossible to find, BBE Music is
delighted to present this carefully remastered version that includes original artwork.
Available on vinyl, CD and digital formats.

Soul Street maestro's breakthrough release from 1971 gets a much needed spotlight from Counterpart... "Lord What's Happening To Your People" is gospel re-imagined as raw funk as Kenny calls out humanity's problems with the help of a full backing chorus and some very slick, dramatic orchestration. "Go For Yourself" takes us further back into Kenny's career to 1966. Leaner than the A-side but comes with the same elements -tight bandmanship, emphatic backing vocals, instant feel-good dynamics - and is also loaded with some exceptionally clean drum breaks. Go fun yourselves.

On July 29, 1980, members of Washington, DC band Symba entered Bias Recording Studios in Falls Church, VA to lay tracks for a new project. They had already recorded a full length for Venture Records earlier that year, with popular tracks "Body Bait" and "Hey You." Here their intention was to shop a fresh sound to Venture artist Sandra Feva - which they did by having vocalist Julia McKirt (stage name Julia Nixon) demo Feva's proposed parts. Co-producer Al Johnson arrived with a military orchestra in tow, ready to arrange horns and strings as he did on Symba's earlier album. He also wanted to accompany the band with the in-studio Rhodes. Studio owner Bob Dawson oversaw the session, and Symba worked two originals onto to 2' tape; Show Me The Way, and One Down, You To Go. Neither Feva nor Venture took the bait, so Symba's longtime manager and co-producer Dickie Williams picked up the slack, starting his own label, Kayo Records, to distributing the recordings as a single. Dickie's favorite car became the name of the one-shot studio band. That fall, the Seville single was mastered at Frankford/Wayne in NY then cut to vinyl -- less than 500 copies were pressed in that first and only run. Williams had a hard time even giving away copies, so to better their chances at radio play, he returned to to the studio with some help to tweak the original product. Warm synth and piano found a home on the same 2' tape, adding some pop ethereality. This second run was never committed to vinyl until today. For the first time ever, Federal Green Records is proud to present these archived takes, mixed by the same hand that recorded them - Master Engineer and Bias Recording Studios owner Bob Dawson. Dawson worked his magic alongside the very same Dickie Williams, composer and original Symba guitarist Michael Zakee Jones, and Federal Green staff, on a warm May evening earlier this year. We absolutely love the final product, and we hope you will too. Oh, and we decided to include the count on Show Me The Way as a posthumous tribute to the incredible genius who executed it, Mr. Al Johnson. May he rest peacefully.

PULUP! We got a brand-new-second-hand burner from the baddestr ocksteady combo in the land.THE FRIGHTNRS!Originaly released in the winter of 2012 as part of a self-released E.P., "NeverAnswer"b/w "Questions" has been remastered and lovingly presed on to a 45rpm 7" record -the way it should be!
One of the first songs that found basisst Preet Pate lint he proverbial driver's seat, the tune began as a instrumental demo with only a chorus melody and a strong UK lovers rock vibe. Once Preet played it for the rest of the group the tune quickly came to life with the addition of Dan Klein's sincere, soulful vocal melody that pays homage to a long-time personal hero of the Frightnrs, the legendary Sugar Minot. The loverst ouch mixed with the gritty Brooklyn & Queens rocksteady approach the Frightnrs have become known for has evolved into something all their own. Some might say FRIGHTSTEADY. A truly hidden gem in the Frightnrs formidable catalog, that is sure to bring joy to any and all discerning selectors out there in the Daptone Universe

Nubian Crackers member The Undercover Brother (AKA veteran Queens, New York-based beat-maker Victor Piagneri) fires up his U.B.'s project and delivers another taster for the forthcoming "Ultimate Covers w/Breaks" LP. On the A-side you'll find his instrumental interpretation of Frederick Knight cut "Uphill Peace Of Mind", a heavy, stripped-back revision rich in killer drum breaks, Red Hot Chili Peppers style funk-rock guitars and life-affirming piano solos. Turn to the flip for Piagneri's vocal-free version of The Honey Drippers' 1973 anti-Nixon anthem "Impeach The President". He allows the track's much-sampled opening drum break a little more room to breathe, before carefully layering up Hammond organ riffs and a snaking saxophone solo that effectively replaces the original vocals.

Mar & Sol presents the new album of the legendary band África Negra,"Alia cu Omali". New songs and some popular classics recorded between Lisbon and S.Tomé.
This album Its a reflection of the old rumba and soukous music that this epic band of São Tomé e Príncipe got us used to. They are an icon and one of the main bands of this island, representing in their music the authenticity and culture of the former Portuguese colony on the equatorial meridian.
It is our mission to expand this culture and here it is the testimony in our series of Luso Afro music which could best represent São Tomé.

After the melancholic, heart-melting Nem Kaldı, the quintet delivers a light upbeat piece, Oy Oy Emine, a traditional Turkish song interpreted in the spirit of the group: the
BaÄŸlama (Turkish lute) introduces the melody before a warm and dynamic rhythm section kicks in, over which Derya's superb voice jousts with wah-wah guitars and acid
synthesizers.

On the A Side, King Tubby works his magic on The Aggrovators 'A Noisy Place', the instrumental version of John Holt & Horrace Andy's classic cut 'A Quiet Place.' Rather than drop 'A Quite Place' into the mix, a second and more rare Tubby dub
of the cut known as 'A Ruffer Version' rounds out the single. The argument can be made that no one was more instrumental in the development of dub reggae than King Tubby, a statement even (many days) his friend and sometime rival Lee Perry would agree with.

Banging kwaito double sider! Two of the best tracks pressed on a 12 - Nicely remastered.
Patience, Violet ,and Pinky recorded their first Album in 1992. Knowing each other from the music scene, the back up singers turned friends teamed up with Emmanuel Diale and signed with Mob Music to embark on their music career as their own act. The first two albums were straight African Disco, A leftover sound of the 80's that some had still hoped to capitalize on. By the time they released their third album Why O Nketsa so Baby, loosely translated to "Why are you doing this to me Baby", Kwaito was still called either Disco or International House, and it was new sound that was taking over. The third album was influenced by the Shangaan sound made largely popular by artists like Penny Penny and Peta Teanet. Looking back now, at the time Mob Music was really leading the pack with this new sound. Being one of the last labels to have official releases with artwork and a group of young talented producers given full creative freedom they pushed the sound in a way only few other labels of that time can be given the same credit.
For their fourth and final album on Mob Music they worked with legendary producer/songwriter Malcom "X" Makume. With three years of songwriting experience and stellar talent behind the desk the result was the LP Malende. Eight tracks that would combine the early kwaito sound with the more uptempo International House topped off with productions heavily inspired by what had been slowly making its way from Chicago over the last 10 years. At the time they had some success and to this day are well known amongst the real heads.
The girls would go on to record one final album once their contract with Mob was up and then after a 5 album catalog would hang up their matching outfits for work a in a newly free South Africa. They remain friends to this day.
*For this release LCT have chosen two of their favourite tracks from the album Malende, wonderfully remastered and pressed loudly on a 12" single for the Deejays

Firts time ever repress from this 1977 MPB / Brazilian soul album !
One of the most important background figures of Brazilian Soul in the 70's and 80´s arranger/producer/composer/instrumentalist Robson Jorge, together with his partner Lincoln Olivetti defined the sound of the genre.
While Olivetti took most of the fame, Robson Jorge was perhaps the mastermind of the duo, having doubtlessly influenced Tim Maia, but being obscured by his own problems with alcohol (which would finally conduce to his precocious demise). The rare Robson Jorge LP 1977 is a testimony of his genius.
Born in Rio de Janeiro, he started out in music playing the acoustic guitar that belonged to his brother at age 11. Before turning 15, he was already playing at balls and even recording sessions. By the mid-70s played keyboards on Tim Maia's band (Seroma). Later on that decade, met with keyboardist/arranger Lincoln Olivetti, establishing a solid partnership and making songs recorded by countless artists. Robson and Lincoln were in charge of writing the arrangements for most of the big MPB stars in the 80s, which granted them fame, money and hard critic reviews that accused them of turning MPB into lame pop. Robson Jorge died alone and forgotten in 1992.

Imagine if you could put together a dream line-up of MCs and producers from all four corners of the rap world
That's what artist and illustrator Gangster Doodles set out to do when he put together a stellar collection of tracks by the rappers and talent that inspire his work.
The all-star line-up features everyone from hotly-tipped emerging producers like Eets, Caleb Stone, Maze Mountain and LoVibe next to underground perennials like Onra, Mndsgn and Jon Wayne all the way up to top flight producer Kaytranada and established rap vets like Madlib, Oh No, Blu and Defari.
This second collaboration between All City Records and Gangster Doodles is a jam-packed sonic adventure featuring 27 killer tracks from some of the finest creators out there. Doodles had the idea for a comp two years ago. Hyped after partnering with All City for Knxwledge's "Wraptaypes" project back in 2015, they initially set out to put together an EP but as the tracks kept coming in it exploded into the sprawling double LP of low-slung grooves and bangers from the best in the business.
With everyone on the record being a friend or friend of a friend, the comp just kept growing as GD went to work with the hustle he has learned from penning his post-it sketches day in day out for the last decade.
Word spread fast and soon he was being sent beats from all over, even reaching behind the prison walls of Bergen County Jail, New Jersey and securing a track from former Dipset affiliate Max B.
The last few years have been busy for Marlon "Gangster Doodles" Sassy. He released his acclaimed Gangster Doodles (The Book) alongside an ever-expanding array of prints, original works, apparel and exhibitions across the globe. Topping that off with animation projects, a graphic novel in the works and now, with this LP titled " Gang$ter Music Vol 1", he is about to debut his first ever music compilation.
He says himself: 'Every time a new track came in it was like running down the stairs on Christmas morning to open a present. What started as a slow trickle of work coming in soon turned into a tsunami with some of my heroes like Onra, House Shoes, Blu, Jeremiah Jae joining up with young guns Kojaque, Kean Kavanagh, Dream Panther and others to beef up the record'
'When an email pinged through with a track from brothers Oh No and Madlib it felt like the final gift and Gang$ter Music Vol. 1 was complete.'

On his debut E.P. for WPH Adham Zahran presents two pieces of divine house music that ooze soul and musicianship. 'The Midnight Tower' will go straight to your hips with it infectious piano hook whereas 'Disco Infinite' is a subtle discofied bass affair that would sit well next to classic Theo Parrish or Moodymann stuff. High praise, but just listen and you'll know it's well-deserved!
