Grand Ancestor's eleventh release in the catalog features the legendary dub controller, Ras Muffet, of Roots Injection fame who's had his tunes played by the likes of Channel One, Aba Shanti, and Jah Shaka. With decades of dub experience, Ras Muffet dug deep into his vaults to produce two eerie dubs focused on the bottom frequencies and the continued evolution of the genre. Steppers enthusiasts worldwide will be delighted to get this weighty 12" onto their turntables before this limited pressing is all gone.

The Aroma are a production unit from Bristol UK who supply a bedrock of masterfully crafted soundscapes for a very carefully selected set of guest MCs. The beats are created by DJ Rumage and engineered and produced by Rola (both from the mighty Bristol Hip Hop crew The Numskullz) with scratch wizard Sir Beans OBE on turntable duty.

Volume 1 has vocals supplied by Junior Disprol, Upfront MC (of Split Prophets), NK (p/k/a Blaktrix), NiLLa, Retna, MCM (of Caveman), Stepasaur (a/k/a Stepchild), Kelz (of 3PM) and last but not least additional vocals by Lizz.E (of the legendary Fresh 4).

At 8 tracks deep this album is short by modern standards but takes you back to a time when albums were 7 or 8 tracks long but overall were a higher standard. Too often now albums have 20 plus tracks with 10 or more fillers and quiet vinyl pressings.

Here you have 8 killers no fillers cut nice and loud and so gives a better sounding product which is something very important to Ruztik Records and AE Productions who have joined forces for this release.

The Headhunters' Straight From The Gate was their 2nd album and was released in 1977. Originally started as a jazz-fusion band fronted by Herbie Hancock, members Paul Jackson, Bennie Maupin, Michael Clark, Paul Potyen, Derrick Youman and Obsidion Blackbiyrd delved further into jazz-rock and fusion sounds and recorded the album at The Automatt studios in San Francisco.

The Headhunters use a wide range of instruments. From the electric piano, to tenor and soprano saxophone, flute, sitar, electric and acoustic guitar as well as adopting an early ARP synthesizer.

Their music is certainly a blend of many styles and genres, including R&B, funk and African rhythms and it is widely accepted that The Headhunters made their mark on the serious' jazz scene.

Tuxedo is back with a new single, Shy,' the follow up to their critically acclaimed II' album. In collaboration with the iconic funk band, Zapp. Tuxedo delivers a highly addictive new funk single for the dance floor.

Gqom Oh! records presents "The Originators", a five track EP respresenting the past, the present and the future of Gqom - the thunderous club sound from Durban, South Africa. The Gqom Oh! label was set up by Rome-based DJ and musician Nan Kolè to highlight the music and artists of Durban, the often overlooked cradle of the new South African sound. The label's 2016 compilation - 'Gqom Oh! The Sound of Durban Vol.1' - broke the sound out of South Africa, Pitchfork calling it The largest and most thoughtful survey of the genre available to western audiences to date'. Recently joining Kolè is Sboniso Brandon Luthuli aka Citizen Boy on the ground as local A&R. The EP's A-Side is dedicated to two of the genre's most prominent producers. DJ Lag is a frontrunner in pushing Gqom worldwide. Making music from a young age and building up a solid reputation in South Africa, he's known as the "King of Gqom". Griffit Vigo, a real innovator in the Gqom genre, grew up in the same area as DJ Lag and has attained a legendary status amongst his peers. "When I was in Durban the first time I noticed that Griffit Vigo was a kind of legendary figure, he'd been inspiring all the Gqom Durban artists for a long time. Nobody knew where he was but everybody was playing him and sometimes using his beats to make new songs. The main track 'Ree's Vibe' was the peak moment of DJ Lag's sets all over the world. If Lag is the Gqom King then Griffit Vigo is the Gqom Legend."- Nan Kolè. Sbucardo is one of the most respected DJs around the streets and the townships of Durban. Featuring Abnormal on 'Iphoyisa', whose lyrics in Zulu translate to We at the club, Mr police man don't disturb us", the track represents the South African scene and Gqom culture in Durban very well. Naked Boyz (officially the first in Durban to explore new territories in broken beat in 2011) 'Story Teller' is characteristic of the Sgubhu style, a blend of Gqom with more conventional house sounds, the new genre taking over Durban and finding its way onto mainstream radio. Scene kingpins Rude Boyz round off the release's line up of Gqom originators with 'Umshunto'.

Mindblowing Afro-Soul music from Ivory Coast served up by Deke Tom Dollard, an obscure artist who only recorded two albums in 1979 and 1981 but who created an original funky fusion with Bété langage. A Selection of four amazing tracks recorded in Abidjan on two different records label called War Records and As Records.

The music here is a mixture of Funk with heavy basslines, traditional percussions, funky guitar riffs, nice horns section and lyrics in Beté. The song Demonde' is inspired by harmonies of the famous Dance to the Drummer Beat' by Herman Kelly.

Those two rare records were found by Afrobrazilero (aka Djamel Hammadi) and never appeared on the vinyl market. It's almost impossible to have infos about this singer and composer neither the musicians involved in the recording sessions. Most of the traces of the recording session were lost by the labels we licensed the tracks with.

Unique, pressed on a deluxe vinyl, remastered by The Carvery, this very Funky album is a must have for all the Afro Funk lovers!

Meditative and off-kilter, Dubkasm's new 12' is, unsurprisingly, completely unlike any other tune out there, and pays tribute to a toofrequently overlooked part of reggae tradition: dub poetry. Originating in a collaboration between Dubkasm and their long-time friend, Norway-dwelling heavyweight bass guitarist, Bajan Steppa, Enter the Gates is a discomix built on a tuff bassline, skittering drums and retro synths, and features reflective, courageous lyrics about the enduring power of Black liberation movements and consciousness, from Gloucester vocalist Rider Shafique. The B-side contains an upfront instrumental cut, followed, in true Dubkasm style, by a collaboration with a musical titan. Mad Professor's incredible dub flips the original into a propulsive soundsystem killer, retaining the tune's heart and spirit, but driving and percussive where the original is deep and soulful. Long out of print, Dubb Everlasting is a highly rated Dub album by noted sound engineer Errol Brown.

Duke Reid's nephew Errol Brown got his start as a junior sound engineer at his uncle's legendary Treasure Isle studio. There he made his first tentative steps in production and 1975's Dubb Everlasting was the result. Three years later followed by Dub Expression (MOVLP2065).

Key to this success was the crack outfit from the Channel One studio, the Revolutionaires. Featuring the eminent talents of Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare to name but two, the band's expansive skill, taste and restraint is evident and contributes to the success of this album. What sets Brown's Dub albums apart from the herd, is that there seems to be a lot more happening on them. Sure there are the spacey, chilled moments as well, but more instruments than the bass and drums are given a chance to shine more often. He's left a bit more in than most Dub practitioners, which keeps things interesting. Being a sound engineer at heart, he liked to keep things moving along, bringing instruments up in the mix and sparingly using drop-out, which makes it all more effective.

Overall Dubb Everlasting is a neat quite obscure but thoroughly intriguing and satisfying 70s Dub Reggae album. Finally available again on vinyl, the first 750 copies are pressed on orange coloured vinyl.

Blues In A Bottle... One of the most prolific of bluesmen, Sam 'Lightnin' Hopkins was equally one of the most revered - a musician who delivered a highly personalised line in country blues, but could also run a line in electric guitar boogie that made him a jukebox favourite. Recorded in Houston during July 1961, Blues In My Bottle is a fine example of Hopkins' storytelling skills and his unlimited ability to shape the blues in all its various forms.

Sun Ra's legendary 1978 Italian studio sessions, now available together for the first time ever on vinyl! Long sought-after by collectors, these extremely rare studio sessions were originally released in 1978 as two double LPs (New Steps and Other Voices, Other Blues) on the mysterious Italian jazz label, Horo Records. They have never been reissued on vinyl (and only partially reissued on CD) until now! With the help of trumpet player, Michael Ray, drummer, Luqman Ali and saxophonist John Gilmore, Ra kicks off the quartet sessions with the classic "My Favorite Things", which features some superlative playing by Gilmore, while Ra pounds away on an old upright studio piano. In fact, for the first two sides Ra plays mostly piano, while on sides C and D, he sticks more to his new Crumar Multiman, an Italian-made synthesizer that Ra had purchased during the tour. These sessions are also interesting because they give listeners a chance to hear Ra concentrating on primarily his own compositions-many of which (i.e. "Rome At Twilight" "Along The Tiber") were inspired by his time spent in Italy-but in a more intimate / Arkestra-less jazz setting. Fans will be clamouring to get their hands on this before it disappears again for another 30 years.

Seems strange that Tommy Stewart's seminal rare groove funk anthem 'Bump And Hustle Music' has never had a 45 release but Mukatsuku has set out to re address this issue with volume 2 of their First Time On A 45 Classics series. On the flipside we find the sublime version of Stella ' from Bridge via the originally unreleased album 'Crying For Love' recorded in Boulder, Colorado in 1981. First Experience reissued that album in 1999 but this is the first time 'Stella' written by Paul Tillman Smith has been made available as a 45

Arkansas native, Lee Moore moved to Memphis in 1975 with only one goal in mind: to make it big in the music industry and to release music that would be played in New York, L.A and everywhere in between.

As a singer and songwriter Lee Moore spent the 1980s collaborating in Memphis with the best of the best session musicians and vocalists from labels like Volt and Stax Records to record and release futuristic boogie, soul, and funk. Lee Moore unfortunately never got close to reach his goals of fame and fortune.

Past Due have taken the welcome liberty of repressing this monster slice of Disco-Soul from Moore's catalogue for us all to enjoy and spin on today's dance-floors. 'Do you feel like party' is a rare early
80's jam from the man and features all the hallmarks of his unique sound and style.This DLP features every (incredibly rare) single and 12' that Lee produced under his name and different monikers. Essential Boogie business!

For Record Store Day 2017 Razor-N-Tape presents "Icarus," an original song by Lovebirds, with remixes from Tall Black Guy, Moods, and JKriv in a striking double 7" package.
Giving the shine to their 45 series for this year's Record Store Day, RNT welcomes back Lovebirds aka Sebastian Doering with a slice of chilled-out analog soul. Although primarily known for his nu-disco and house productions, Lovebirds is a seasoned hand at all things deep, and Icarus shows the smoky late-nite side of Basti's skilled production style. An all-original tune, Icarus layers jazzy vintage electric pianos over restrained but head-nodding percussion, with Galliano's soulful vocal soaring above it all. The ever consistent Tall Black Guy delivers a 90's-esque boom-bapper of a mix, with an added verse from 80's Babies for good measure. Moods works the track into a slo-mo stomper on his mix, complete with stuttering synth bass and driving percussion. And rounding out the package is RNT's JKriv, with a beachy stripped-down retro-boogie remix perfect for those warm-weather months to come. Each mix gets its own side in this double 7" pack, with stunning full color artwork, making it a truly special package perfect for both collectors and DJs alike.

'Intimate Connetion' by Kleeer on US 7' single is one record that's been indemand in recent times and has seen it's value soar in price. The rare 7' mix has never been previously released in the UK. 'Intimate Connection' is one of the smoothest of cuts of the early 1980s and that has a groove that glides effortlessly with great ease. For us in the shop it epitomises the changeover sound from full live bands to electronic based recordings with the amazing Deodato at the production helm overlording the groups synthesisers & drum machines. On the flip with 'Tonight' the jam continues with great aplomb and features it's distinctive vocoder lead. This was always one of the finest double headers of the 1980s and one that we're proud to be re-releasing in 2018

PRINCE PHILLIP MITCHELL has been performing, writing and producing since the early sixties and even spent a little time with Alvin Cash's backing group the Cash Registers. He wrote hits for Mel And Tim and Millie Jackson but is best known on the Northern Soul scene for his 'Shout' recording Free For All' and our chosen side, the crossover soul anthem I'm So Happy'.
LOU RAGLAND shot to fame on the Northern Soul scene with his 4-figure rarity I Travel Alone', recorded for 'Amy' Records in May 1967. It was his home town buddy, Edwin Starr, that helped Ragland secure the deal and although a flop at the time it cemented his popularity in England. When Starr came to the UK in 1983 with his Ric-Tic Revue Ragland was invited along and, at last, got the recognition he deserved.

THE SOUL BROTHERS SIX hailed from Rochester, New York and have played a part on the Northern Soul scene for over 50 years. Their first recording, for 'Lyndell' Records in 1966, is now a 3-figure rarity, but it is their debut disc for Atlantic, I'll Be Loving You', that first graced the decks at the Twisted Wheel, The Pendulum et al and has become a perennial Northern Soul favourite. At the time of release tt was the B-side to Some kind Of Wonderful' which took the disc to No.91 on the R&B charts.
WILLIE TEE has also been a familiar figure on the rare soul scene since the early Mod clubs with his architypal New Orleans mid tempo soul sound. His early recordings on 'Gatur' rank as some of the most collectable 45s to emanate from the Crescent City. Here we feature his club classic from 1964, the anthemic Walkin' Up A One Way Street'.

RIYL: Chris Franck, Turkish. With infectious melodies and razor sharp bars, rapper AWATE flows over psychedelic funk by producer, Turkish on debut album Happiness - a record written and recorded on bail. The MOBO supported artist weaves together stories from Maiden Lane Estate in Camden and his refugee experience to build on his reputation as one of London's most visionary artistic forces. '2018 will see the release of AWATE's debut LP, 'Happiness', written and recording in a two year period while AWATE was on bail for four cases which he was was eventually cleared. The release has had support from Charlie Sloth on BBC 1Xtra, DJ Semtex on BBC 1Xtra, Matt Wilkinson on Beats1, The Line of Best Fit, Complex and MOBO and is entirely produced by Turkish of Dcypha (Sway, Tiggs Da Author). A rapper and producer from Maiden Lane Estate in Camden. Honing his craft from the age of 12, he made a name for himself at the legendary hip-hop spot, Deal Real at the age of 15. AWATE learned from mentors such as Poisonous Poets rappers, Stylah and Lowkey, BBC 1Xtra's DJ Semtex and one of his heroes, Yasiin Bey. As a refugee from Eritrea via Saudi Arabia, AWATE's lyrics are a complex train of thought on subjects like self-esteem, racism, pride and class. Building a reputation as an electrifying and engaging live performer, AWATE has toured worldwide with Lowkey since 2010 and has supported the likes of Jay Electronica, Ghetts, Big Daddy Kane, and Blackstar (Mos Def & Talib Kweli). He has also headlined and performed regularly at The Roundhouse as a Resident Artist at the iconic venue. AWATE's long awaited first release, 2016's 'Shine Ancient' EP was premiered on Complex with features on Noisey, Huck, AFROPUNK, OkayAfrica and premiere's on BBC 6 Music with Gilles Peterson, Jamie Kennedy on Radio X as well as support from DJ MK and Shortee Blitz on KISS.

"Blackheart Man" is the solo debut album by Bunny Wailer originally released in 1976. This Roots Reggae classic is one of the finest albums of the era and showed that Bunny was a visionary singer/songwriter as he embarked on his solo career. The 10 songs of "Blackheart Man" are brimming with spirituality and protest, wonderful performances, and a more laid back, meditative style than his former band mates Peter Tosh and Bob Marley. Bunny is backed by a who's who of Reggae musicians of the time including Carlton "Carly" Barrett, Aston "Family Man" Barrett, Robbie Shakespeare, Peter Tosh, Earl "Chinna" Smith, Tommy McCook, Tyrone Downie and Bob Marley. Kendrick Lamar releases a collector's edition of his critically-acclaimed record 'DAMN.'
The special edition flips around the track list, to give fans a listening experience of how Lamar initially envisaged the album prior to its April 2017 release.
When the Compton rapper conceptualised his album, he originally envisioned the tracks in a much different order to how they ended up on the final product. Kendrick had originally felt that the track-listing should be the complete reversal of what it is - so that it began with DUCKWORTH.' and ended with BLOOD.'

It was 1958 when a passably successful R&B singer entered the recording studio with an all-star band to tape a dozen songs from the global repertoire of a legendary blues vocalist. The old-fashioned style in LaVern Baker's tribute to Bessie Smith might seem somewhat strange in the midst of popular R&B numbers and the growing productivity of the Motown hit machines, but it certainly found favour with the public. And for a very good reason too! Right from the very first number, "Gimme A Pigfoot", the snappy bass line conjures up the ballroom atmosphere of the Twenties. A bluesy dialogue with the trumpet ("Baby Doll", "I Ain't Gonna Play No Second Fiddle"), alternating with robustly orchestrated swing rhythms ("On Revival Day"), and time and again cool, faltering blues ("Black Water Blues") guarantee great listening and entertainment. The great names in the band read like a Who Is Who of outstanding musicians - Nat Pierce, Buck Clayton, Paul Quinichette, Urbie Green and Jimmy Cleveland, all who crown the fantastic sound of their performance with relaxed and easy-going solos and finely balanced background playing that would hardly be more authentic on a live stage. And by the way, fans of traditional big-band swing will love this album too.

As the lead singer of George Darko's legendary Burger-Highlife hit-band, Lee Dodou became the number one voice of 80's Highlife. Born in Kumasi, the epicenter of Ghanaian Highlife, he came to Berlin in the late 70's - by then the uprising epicenter of Burger-Highlife - to work as a back-up-singer for Pat Thomas. After joining and leaving Georg Darko and running his own band "Kantata", he stopped releasing music in the early 90's. Now, Philophon is proud to present new recordings of his soulful genius to the world of 2018.

Basa Basa is a song in the classic "concert party" style, as it was played in the glorious 60's. After a firey horn introduction Lee takes over in that funny and entertaining manner typical for "concert party" music. Buzz Duncker joins Lee's phrases with some gentle clarinet. Highlife at its best!

Sahara Akwantuo is anything but a classic: it's the start of a kind of philophonic Highlife, labeled as Kraut-Life. Ghanaian love of life meets German romantic melancholy. Happy rhythms meet mysterious synth landscapes. Eternal summertime and mangos are meeting a wet winter world and roast apples. Kraut-Life at its best!

Sparrow's visit of Jamaica, The Isle Of Springs', during the month of June 1963, has left him with very pleasant and joyful reminiscences of the love, warmth and hospitality of its people. From the moment his plane tipped down at the Palisadoes Airport', at a lounge in the ultra-modern terminal building he was entertained with a Rum Punch', Significant of Jamaican's ability to produce rums that absolutely no connoisseur can despise. Well! And it's from there it all started, for like Oliver Twist, Sparrow continued, where ever he went to ask for more, and, obviously when the drinks are in, the wits are out. You are therefore left to deduce whatever you may during his presentation of this contribution.

I'll Be Around (Bossa-Nova)" is a warning to one of his lovers of her promiscuous traits towards him and the retribution she would eventually suffer for so doing.

Theses two calypso songs were recorded with the famous Bert Inniss National Recording Orchestra. This single 7' is absolutely impossible to find and will warm any dances in the world.

We (Soul Clap) first connected with Nona Hendryx through our work with George Clinton, Sa'd "the Hourchild" Ali and Chuck "Da Fonk" Fishman. She wrote and sang the single "Shine" from our last album. That experience left us all wanting to collaborate more, so we teamed up with Morgan Wiley from Midnight Magic and all got in the studio to producing new EP for Soul Clap Records, four tracks of house, soul, jazz and of course THE FUNK.

Another dig from the vaults results in another reissue in a 90s roots / dub classic which was recorded and produced by two of the most respected producers in the UK reggae scene: Nick `Manasseh' Raphael and Dougie `Conscious Sounds' Wardrop.

* Featuring UK based roots reggae singer Tena Stelin and Centry which was the given name to any project that Dougie was involved with before he formed Bush Chemists.
* This 10' slab features the original vocal and dub cuts plus two extra previously unreleased dub cuts.
* `Can't Touch Jah' has been played extensively for nearly 30 years by the sound system heavyweights Aba Shanti I and Jah Shaka.

* `Originally dating from 1999, `Only Jah' finally surfaced on a 10' EP (PRTL10007) by Partial Records two years ago. The track was picked up by the likes of sound systems such as Channel One and Jah Tubbys, with a video clip of the former dropping the tune reaching 40,000 views on Facebook and YouTube.
* The original EP has long since sold out, so demand commanded that `Only Jah' should ride again, so here it is. This time with the full original mixes including the vocal cut voiced by Jah Meek back in 1999.
* `Only Jah' is a throbbing steppers workout in a UK dub style, but with a retro feel aided by a sample of a vocal 'borrowed' from an obscure late 70's dub tune.
* All four mixes are previously unreleased.

Lee Dorsey († December 1, 1986) began his career as a lightweight boxer in the early 1950s and moved on to become an influential African American pop and R&B singer during the 1960s.

His successful period began when he met songwriter and record producer Allen Toussaint with whom he recorded several songs like Ya Ya', Working In The Coalmine', Ride Your Pony' and many more which all charted in the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart.

In 1970 Dorsey recorded the Yes We Can album again with Allen Toussaint together with the support band The Meters. Several of the songs were covered by major artists who scored hits with them later that decade, Yes We Can' by The Pointer Sisters and Sneakin' Sally Thru The Alley' by Robert Palmer. The other songs are straight up funky tracks and have a variety of styles and sounds. Included are the protest soul recording Who's Gonna' Help Brother Get Further' and the somewhat hilarious comedy song Would You'. All in all it stands as a great soul album for that time.
