In 2017, we've only caught a few glimpses of what Ivan has been working on, namely the soulful
Kaytranada x Kiefer produced loosie Also' and the jazzy MNDSGN produced single Young Eye'. As it
turns out, these two cuts are a good indication as to what the Oslo based artist has in store for us with his
next LP release. On November 10h of this year, Ave presents his sophomore LP Every Eye'.
Every Eye', with its symbiosis of different producers, musicians and vocal styles puts Ivan Ave in his own
lane. Leaving behind the sample heavy sound he's gained recognition with, Ivan embarks on his first
musical journey free of chopped up jazz, soul and funk records. But it would be an understatement to say
that Every Eye' still has jazz, soul and funk for days. Enlisting musical homies like Fredfades, MNDSGN,
DJ Harrison, Kiefer, Kaytranada and Dâm- Funk on the production side, Ivan carves out his path as an
ever-growing MC and singer.
All-though Every Eye' sometimes hovers in a state of weightlessness genre wise, there is no shortage of
gravity in Ave's lyrical universe. Ivan seems to have written this record as his own self help book, dealing
with the mechanisms of the mind, the heart, and the world he sees (or doesn't see). The title Every Eye'
refers to our various angles of view, the ones we choose and the ones we are assigned to.
From any point of view, Ivan Ave's Every Eye' will be a treat for every ear on its November 10th release
through Jakarta Records.

From the mid to late 60’s Sonny Lester was at the helm of some of the period’s most significant jazz music (Thad Jones-Mel Lewis Orchestra, Chick Corea, Duke Ellington’s 70th birthday concert) and also some of the genre’s biggest hits (mostly from organist Jimmy Mcgriff). With the folding of the Solid State label in 1971 Sonny Lester formed the aptly named Groove Merchant label (named after the tune Jerome Richardson wrote for the Jones-Lewis Orchestra). He then produced some of the periods most notable soul/jazz, jazz/fusion from the likes of McGriff, Richard Groove Holmes, Reuben Wilson, Lonnie Smith to name but a few.

In 1980, during her run on Broadway in the musical, Ain't Misbehavin' and before being cast in Dreamgirls, singer/actress and Detroit native ROZ RYAN teamed up with the legendary team of DENNIS COFFEY and MIKE THEODORE on a six song album that wound up being unreleased. Recently, the folks at Super Disco Edits released this 45 featuring Roz' taking on Preston Glass' KEEP SHINING' b/w PUT LOVE BACK' (composed by Eric McClinton). Both tracks were from the Theo-Coff sessions and make their debut for lovers of dancin' ( Keep Shining') and romancin' ( Put Love Back'). Enjoy!
Al Johnson came from the 60s Washington group The Unifics, then in 1978 he released a debut album Peaceful' on an independent label. It featured the original version of I've Got My Second Wind' that would later be re-recorded and become a popular song from his 1980 CBS album Back For More' and is featured here. The song I'm Back For More' was a duet from the album featuring Jean Carn which is released in its full length version here on Expansion for the first time. Both songs timeless moern soul classics.
Sonor Music Editions proudly presents an absolute Italian mood music grail and one of the best Library Music recordings ever - A.ALESSANDRONI's RITMO DELL'INDUSTRIA n.2, a true legend in the field. This is the maestro most prized and sought-after album, produced in 1969 on the small Grand Prix label, part of the Leonardi publishing group. A mindmelting record featuring some of the most killer driven beats ever! - dark vibes and haunting atmospheres with constant and moody Industrial rhythms, filled with tons of drum breaks, trippy Scat vocals and eastern inspired obsessive grooves. Music has been remastered from the original stereo master tape and the back sleeve will feature deluxe liner notes written by Mr. Jonny Trunk. HOLY GRAIL ALERT!
In the whole history of hip-hop music, few groups can claim to have been as influential and important as Joseph Saddler's group Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five. Many of the genre's signature elements and trademarks can be traced back to the supergroup founded by the Grandmaster, their discography was among the first to feature recordings of scratching and turntablism, their's was the first to feature songs with political and social commentary, they were the first to refer to rappers as "MC's", some might even say they were the group that first coined the term "hip-hop." Though Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five was considered the number one hip-hop group on their home turf of New York City, they only maintained a following on a local level, performing and releasing
singles exclusively on the East Coast. It wasn't until the release of Sugar Hill Gang's "Rapper's Delight" that the group realized they could break into the mainstream. After signing with Sugar Hill Records, the group released their debut album The Message in 1982. Bolstered by Flash's deft turntablism, rappers Melle Mel, Kidd Creole, and Keef Cowboy's vocals, and production which sampled everything from Chic to the Tom Tom Club to The Jimmy Castor Bunch, The Message was a revelation of sorts. More than simply being a Billboard hit for the group, the album helped cement hip-hop's credibility with mainstream audiences, and is considered a major achievement in hip-hop history. The album's title track was especially praised, and is considered one of the greatest rap tracks in music history.

Acid Jazz are pleased to announce details of the definitive Leroy Hutson compilation - Anthology : 1972-1984 on 20th October. Erstwhile Impression, Leroy Hutson's catalogue has become increasingly coveted over the years and this compilation collects his Curtom recordings together with two newly discovered tracks including Positive Forces which is available as an instant grat track when pre-ordering the album.
Native of Newark New Jersey, Leroy Hutson grew up In a part of the world that spawned many of Soul's all-time groups, amongst them, The Parliaments and the Manhattens. Smitten by the music he was to join a local quartet, The Nu-Tones and despite never recording the youthful Hutson experienced the thrill of being a singer. On splitting up, Hutson found himself studying in Washington DC and once more in the company of supremely talented artists including Carla Thomas and future collaborator Don Hathaway. Various recordings came and went with little chart success before, along with Hathaway he became central to a group of singer, songwriters and players under the tutelage of Curtis Mayfield at his Curtom label a relationship that initiated Hathaway's chart topping career when the pair co wrote the all-time classic and million seller The Ghetto.
Early 1971 saw Hutson replace Mayfield in the Impressions as he left to concentrate on his solo career, the transition was seamless and although relatively brief saw the band in the pop and R&B charts. His debut on the Billboard chart as a solo artist arrived with Love Oh Love, the first of a dozen Curtom singles he recorded during an exciting and turbulent decade for black American music.
The seven albums Hutson released on Curtom between 1973 and 1979 are a legacy that remain highly respected, almost revered amongst soul cognoscenti, an untold influence on an entire generation of musicians throughout the eighties. The demise of Curtom in the early eighties saw Hutson relocate to Elektra, where in 1982 he released Paradise - highly acclaimed and much loved for a time it looked like that release may spell the end but some twenty-seven years later, the newly monikered 'Lee' Huston unveiled Soothe You Groove You.
Hip-hop is an art form and culture that is constantly changing. Musically speaking, new technology and the latest trends have a very real influence on the records released from year to year. It's easy to get caught up in the pop culture hype machine and triplet beats that currently dominate rap. Trends come and go, but the proven elements of hip-hop music will continue to be relevant for years to come. For instance, MC's that spit ferocious bars over dusty, head-splitting beats will never go out of style. Enter Detroit's Nolan The Ninja and his latest record, YEN. Released on DJ Soko's imprint, Left Of Center (LOC), YEN picks up where Nolan's earlier projects left off. Nolan, who has been gaining momentum in Detroit and beyond, continues to demonstrate his ability to rip a microphone. Underneath Nolan's agile delivery is an element of storytelling that is sometimes lost in rap. From Nolan's rhymes to guest appearances by Blu, Add-2, Denmark Vessey, and Quelle Chris, there is no shortage of heavy bars on YEN. Calisthenics,' which features Royce Da 5'9, is an exceptional track that showcases Royce's talent and lyrical depth. With stand out production from Black Milk, 14KT, Chanes, Denmark Vessey, Scud One, and Nolan himself, YEN is 17 tracks of non-stop heat that creates the perfect backdrop for Nolan's strong delivery. While certain trends in hip-hop move one way, it's clear that Nolan The Ninja is content going the other direction. His new album isn't reliant on catchy hooks, trap beats or the glorification of party culture. Instead, YEN is a combination of heavy bars and head-splitting beats that accurately reflects Nolan's perspective and life experiences. YEN exemplifies the type of music that will remain relevant even after the current trends have faded and something new becomes popular.

Mr. O.T. Sykes is often and fondly called 'The Singing Dentist' but it's far from a joke. Dr. Sykes, who till this day never gave up his day job, chooses to do only top quality music. He will not sell out to an already overcrowded pop-market as this extremely well respected and very soulful LP from 1981 so eloquently proves. Within an international circle of connoisseurs O.T.Sykes ranks among the very best of soul singers. This is true soul music to the max and is written, played and produced by Jeffrey Singleton (The Frat / Frat Band / Autofrat) and Mr. Sykes himself, plus the cream of the rich music scene in Memphis, TN. Original copies are now really hard to come by so this long overdue and most carefully prepared reissue is more than welcome. - Marc Janssen

Named for her first two big British hits, Stay Awhile-I Only Want To Be With You was Dusty's American album debut in June 1964. Both of these timeless singles are included, along with the rare flip side 'Something Special' and UK EP cut 'Every Day I Have To Cry.' The rest of the tracklist is drawn from the singers first UK album, and includes her thrilling interpretations of choice Motown and girl group gems like Lesley Gore's empowerment anthem 'You Don't Own Me' and the Bacharach classic '24 Hours From Tulsa.' Dusty shared the same striking cover photo as that UK album, but its contents were completely different. Originally released in November 1964, this well-programmed disc features the US-only single 'All Cried Out' and two of Dusty's signature performances in the ballads 'I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself,' and 'My Coloring Book.' Several songs such as 'I Wish I'd Never Loved You' and 'Summer Is Over' were B-sides or EP cuts elsewhere, and tracks like 'Guess Who' would not even see release in the UK until the CD era. Once again, the mono mixes of many of these cuts have not been reissued on vinyl since the 1960s. Record stampers produced by Record Technology, Inc. Camarillo California, USA.

One of Dusty's rarest and most desirable albums from this era, Ooooooweeee!!!, issued in March 1965 was another fascinating potpourri of UK singles tracks, stray EP and LP cuts, and material initially exclusive to the release. Amongst the latter were several songs Springfield recorded in New York such as 'Here She Comes' and 'If Wishes Could Be Kisses,' the mono takes of which have different vocal parts to the stereo. Produced by Egyptian Lover and Mophono. The California Colors EP is a pilgrimage to a sacred place. The trio Ernie Fresh, Mophono, and legendary electro producer Egyptian Lover bow at the altar of the artform, offering only the realest expression of the elements. It's is the four elements, graffiti, breaking, emceeing and deejaying, in harmonious, head-nod bliss. From Ernie Fresh's dedicated toast, this one is going out to all the straight up, motherfucking b-boys,' the California Colors EP calibrates to a symposium dedicated to the breakers on linoleum, and the renegade artists that paint in rustoleum. The title track is a head trip down the krylon aisle as Fresh dreams of Oxnard Oranges and Gardenia Greens he'll ignite to the shell of a clean train. Fresh is most notable as the ring leader with the Rakim cadence on DJ Shadow's The Sideshow' from 2016's The Mountain Will Fall, but he's cut his teeth in Northern California as a member of the group Who Cares. Behind the boards is San Francisco producer Mophono and the legendary Egyptian Lover. The two producers encapsulate a sound that feels like the result of getting lost in video clips of Detroit's legendary The New Dance Showfootage. The California Colors EP is a living time capsule of electrofuturist production, particularly Egyptian Lover's mastery of the 808.It's the result of Mophono obsessing over Kraftwerk's It's More Fun ToCompute' and Just Ice's Little Bad Johnny,' only to arrive at legendaryRusk Studio in the presence of creator of Egypt Egypt.' The California Colors EP is dedicated to the ones that grew up onRapmasters tapes in their Walkmans, clipped to their shorts as theypedaled through the neighborhood on BMX bikes. It's for the ones thatsnuck out through the bedroom window at midnight with a Jansport full of krylon cans. If you had a black book with no blank pages or a mountain of D batteries in the waste bin, this EP will have you seeing colors as bright as the fresh paint on a burner.

Sampled by Drake ( Jungle') and G-Eazy ( Running'). Instrumental versions of Gabriel's Stones Throw Records debut Jardín now available on limited edition wax. Gabriel Garzón-Montano's formidable skills have come to fruition on Jardín in his Stones Throw debut. This album came out of wanting to make music that reminds people how beautiful life is and how delicate their heart is,' he said. I've always wanted to make music that is healing, comforting, and funky. I named the album Jardín hoping for it to create a space for healing when people put it on. A garden is full of life, growth and beauty,' Gabriel said of choosing that unifying image as the title for his new album. It makes me think of green and white and all the colors as they appear in different flowers.' That vivid spectrum bursts forth on Jardín itself and the album contains references to fruit of all sorts, sour mango, juicy tangerines and sweet peaches. From the heartache and aching vocals that float over the dusty drums of Crawl' to the stutter-step thump of Bombo Fabrika' to the high falsetto he nails on Octave,' Garzón-Montano proves himself to already be one of 2017's biggest breakout talents.
As Lee is out on the road spreading the love to crowds across Europe we decided to press up another undeniable two sider off the instant classic Special Night album. Another must have for the DJs.... Side A is Coming Home', Lee's incredible take on working, how we get through it, and why we do it. He sings to his wife a story a lot of people can relate to, working all day looking forward to coming home to his family. The Expressions provide the perfect feel good backing to this midtempo masterpiece with beautiful horn arrangements, catchy background vocals, and a guitar riff as catchy as the chorus. Side B's Precious Love' is the perfect example of the song writing and arranging prowess the producers (Leon Michels & Tommy Brenneck) and the band have honed over the years. Catchy from the intro, this love song keeps the dance floor and holds up next to the classics. Play this for your precious love.

The Allergies' debut album introduced the world to the way they effortlessly fuse funk, soul, disco, hip-hop and breaks into dancefloor-ready nuggets of ear candy. Taking classic sounds and reshaping for the modern age is the signature that won them plaudits across the globe.
Not ones to rest on their laurels, it hasn't taken long for them to deliver more of the goods on their second full-length album, 'Push On'. As well as taking the successful formula of the first record and expanding on the sound with raw Funk, Psych, Northern Soul, and Boogie influences, The Allergies enlisted two giants of underground Hip-Hop to bless mics on the album as well.
After a hugely successful collaboration on their debut LP, once again the dynamic lyricism and production skills of the inimitable Andy Cooper (Ugly Duckling) are present and correct in this new collection. Besides bringing the party on tracks like 'Main Event', he also settles scores with 'It Won't Be Me', before destroying all-comers on the battle Rap behemoth, 'Buzzsaw'. Also joining in on the action is UK MC veteran, Dr Syntax (The Mouse Outfit, Foreign Beggars) who prescribes some more healthy Hip-Hop advice on the track 'Remedy'.
Other highlights include the vintage Soul stomper, 'Entitled to That', Sixties uptempo groover, 'Hold You Close', and the fantastic little strutter, 'Get Down On You'. All in all it's a brand new set of future classics from your new favourite funky beatmakers, The Allergies.

When it comes to old-school roots reggae, few groups were as influential as The Maytals. Adding Frederick Toots' Hibbert's name to the front of their billing later in the 1970s, in the earliest days they were more egalitarian as they built their sound and legend. From The Roots, originally released on Trojan Records in 1970 (alongside another full-length that same year, Monkey Man), was a transitional record for the group. Leaving behind their early ska days - much like The Wailers and other peers - they had yet to settle into the slower tempos that blew in like ganja smoke by the mid-'70s. As a result, music here generally gallops, and vocals fall in line. As heard on gems like Koo Koo,' Got To Feel,' and Pee Pee Cluck Cluck,' the Maytals' lyrics tend mostly towards love and the pursuit thereof. The group, throughout its career, was also deeply spiritual and much of this was expressed through song - a great case in point here is Thy Kingdom Come,' essentially a church hymn set to reggae music. And the album concludes with an interesting cover of the Lennon/McCartney hippie chestnut, Give Peace A Chance,' which is much faster than the original and quite groovy overall. The Maytals are generally overlooked in the pantheon of reggae giants, but this is unjust. Do your part in recognizing their legendary status by digging into this filling meal of classic Jamaican fare.

A pioneer of hardcore rap music, one can't talk about the West Coast hip-hop scene without mentioning Todd Anthony Shaw, better known by the stage name Too $hort. A veteran of the genre, Too $hort's discography is one filled with tracks about pimping, drug use, promiscuity, and unapologetically explicit language. (His 1985 record Don't Stop Rappin' is notoriously one of the first to use the word "bitch" on a track.) He's released nearly 20 albums over the course of his 35-year career, and collaborated with artists as varied as Jay-Z, UGK, 50 Cent, Lil Jon, he's even been one of the few musicians to work with both 2Pac and The Notorious B.I.G., in the middle of
their infamous feud. Too $hort's works were largely a cult phenomenon during the early years of his career, but 1988's Life Is... broke him into a mainstream audience, and gave him his most critically acclaimed release. (Not to mention his highest-selling to date.) The album stood out in its field, at a time when re-sampling old-school funk and R&B singles was the name of the game, Too $hort instead opted to take established riffs and hooks from from those singles and re-create them with studio musicians and drum machines. The album cemented Too $hort's status among MC's, and the title track itself would even be re-sampled in tracks by rappers UGK, hip-hop-influenced rock group Sublime, and even Too $hort himself on later singles.
