Hip-Hop Vinyl Neuheiten & Releases - News

Following the release of his limited-edition Boomerang' EP and his cassette-only album Special Request,' Diamond Ortiz brings you his first full-length LP, Loveline.' His heavy, bounce-laden style carries the album from start to finish, cementing him as California's heir apparent to the gutter synth funk sound, which originated from Ohio and found an adopted home out west. It fits perfectly with the cultures of lowriding and popping/locking. Diamond Ortiz proves on Loveline,' as he has with all of his past efforts, that the sound he is a proponent of is not simply retro' or old school' - it has a place in the modern day pantheon of electronic music.

Shark Wolf Rabbit Snake' is the 2012 album from veteran producer and sound designer Eliot Lipp, originally released on Pretty Lights Music. Repressed and back in!! According to legend, when the Wu-Tang Clan formed like Voltron on their debut album in 1993, GZA happened to be the head - an appropriate place for a man also called The Genius. Yet at the time few could have predicted that his 1995 masterpiece 'Liquid Swords' would be considered one of the most substantial lyrical journeys in hip-hop history.

ATR is a one of a kind reggae collective based in Parkside Brooklyn. Founded by Scrillamatic and KG, at their core they are just group of friends who hang out in the park and sing, all day. The routine is simple, they meet up at their favorite hangout spot on the side of a lake, play beats off of a beat up but loud stereo, and belt out lyrics out into the air. Sometimes a crowd gathers but it's usually just a few like minded artists sharing their love for music. Natives of the west indies, but coming of age in Brooklyn, they have a very unique perspective on life and the world we live in. With subject matters varying from traditional roots medleys, smoked out ganja anthems to gangsta badman chants to heartfelt soulful ballads telling tales of the ghetto and more, they have a lot to say.

Please note - you may have an earlier version of the Pharcyde 'Bizarre Ride' vinyl in your system. The Delicious Vinyl issue - DV142221 will never again be available. The new issue on Bicycle Music presented here will be available on an on-going basis. 'Bizarre Ride II the Pharcyde' is the debut album from The Pharcyde. Released in late 1992, the album was hailed by critics and rap fans alike. Produced entirely by J-Swift with easily some of the tightest and most inventive beats of the era, 'Bizarre Ride' features only one guest appearance, provided by little known Los Angeles rapper Buckwheat (who would become known as 'Bucwheed' from The Wascals). Released during the dominant Gangsta Rap era of the West Coast, the music was described as 'refreshing' due to its playful, light-hearted humor and lush, jazzy production. Along with albums like 'To Whom it May Concern...' by Freestyle Fellowship, and 'I Wish My Brother George Was Here' by Del tha Funkee Homosapien, 'Bizarre Ride' helped establish a new alternative scene on the West Coast followed by artists such as Hieroglyphics, The Coup and Jurassic 5. The album featured four singles, all of which were accompanied by music videos. The group's debut single, 'Ya Mama', originally released in 1991, was the song that landed the group their record deal, but it failed to reach any Billboard singles chart. Their first major exposure came with the release of the album's second single, 'Passing Me By'. The song became the group's biggest crossover hit and is now considered a classic Hip Hop single. The album's third single, '4 Better or 4 Worse', was released in mid-1993 and featured the stoner song 'Pack the Pipe' and the throwback track 'Return of the B-Boy' as its B-Side. The final single, the SlimKid solo track 'Otha Fish', was released in late 1993. The album was certified gold in 1996, and it's stature has only grown since with the release constantly appearing on Best Of lists such as the 100 Best Rap albums by The Source, Top 100 Favorite Records of The 90s by Pitchfork and Rolling Stone's Top 25 Hip Hop Albums as listed by Chris Rock.

Highly acclaimed upon its release by Drumattic Twins (Finger Lickin'), Clive Craske (Big Chill), Plaza De Funk, and Tom Findlay (Groove Armada).Side B is an upbeat, yet deep and eerie psych-funk slasher with a strong 70's horror soundtrack feel.

Stro Elliot is an incredible producer and performer. Plain and simple. His productions mold the past and the present into futuristic soul splashed gems that turn heads whenever they are heard. His ability to breathe new life into already classic records is one of the reasons he is one of the most respected producers of the day. From The Summer Love Song', where he beats the shit out of Kool and the Gang's perrenial classic Summer Madness', to the absolutely ridiculous flip of Soul II Stro', to Virginia Wolf', where he sings about relationship woes, it's all flawless. Street Corner Music is proud to present the debut LP from one of the best to do it. Boiler Room Performance: Stro Elliot's set was the one. A blend of classic hip hop and soul samples mixed with live new beats — taking you back, while wrenching you into 2016 at the same time.'

Experienced crate diggers are no doubt familiar with New Birth, the 17-piece funk ensemble sampled on classic hip-hop records by Wu-Tang Clan, De La Soul, Junior M.A.F.I.A., Black Sheep, Lil Wayne, Ice Cube, and many more. The genesis of New Birth can be traced back to The Nite-Liters, a Louisville-based instrumental outfit. Founded in 1963 by Motown songwriter/producer Harvey Fuqua and saxophonist Tony Churchill, The Nite-Liters released a handful of albums in the early 70s, scoring a few minor hits and perfecting the sound that would power New Birth to further success as the decade progressed. While much of the The Nite Liters' early material has been overlooked, their self-titled debut album is worth revisiting. Originally released on RCA Records in 1970, The Nite Liters is a raw, soulful masterpiece that has been sampled by KMD, Ghostface Killah and others. This historic release is now back on print on limited-edition Nite Lite' colored vinyl. Order now while supplies last.

(180gr pressing) The incredible first album by Tim Maia - Brazil's greatest soul star in the 70s, and for good reason too - given that Tim was one of the few who could match the depth of American soul and funk at the time!

This third and last volume offers another fresh choice of tracks exploring the sounds of Turkey in the 1960s and 1970s. As previous volumes have shown, these sounds cannot be confined stylistically or geographically, as their blending of Western and Turkish elements and the variety of styles thrown into the mix reach beyond the borders of the Turkish republic. Here we have a Turkish-Armenian cut by Yorgantz, as well as a Greek-Turkish track by Giannis Floriniotis, offering prime examples of Turkish pop-rock music, itself a hybrid of local and global sounds, interwoven with other musical styles.

The compilation presents a wide selection of music for dancing and listening purposes, ranging from folk to funk and from oriental rock 'n' roll to deep psychedelic. Among other treats, it boasts flow-oriented pop by Nese Karaböcek and Esmeray, jazzy harmonies by Figen Han, experimental rock by O¨nder Bali 4, fluffy folk by Modern Folk Üçlüsü, brass loaded funk by Ali Kocatepe, and Anatolian rock by Beyaz Kelebekler, Fikret Hakan, and Mehmet Peku¨n.

The bonus 12' has an urban disco boogie side with Saadet Gürses and a rural folk music side with Dönüsüm and Kerem Güney.

Jammz came up studying grime, and in 2016 finds himself at the forefront of it. Born and bred in East London, Jammz started to make a name for himself on London's radio circuit in 2014 and 2015, appearing regularly on Rinse FM, Radar Radio, NTS, Mode FM and BBC 1xtra and teaming up with both established DJs like Slimzee, Spooky, Bok Bok and Spyro and newcomers like Moleskin. His Hit Then Run EP became a cult classic: the title track was played regularly on BBC Radio 1Xtra and Noisey's #3 grime track of 2015, and the remix was Sian Anderson's #1 remix of the week six weeks on the spin. Subsequent singles 'Final Warning' and 'London Living' further established Jammz as one of grime's best new hit-makers, while his live reputation is also quickly on the rise: he's played Glastonbury, Eskimo Dance, Outlook, Night Slugs and Bestival, has headlined FWD>> and in March 2016 was the support act on Kano's UK tour. Jammz has been supported heavily by Fader, Noisey, FACT, GQ, Mixmag, SBTV, MTV and more, and featured on the front cover of the Observer Music's British MCs special. Following an instrumental 12' which sold out in four days, Warrior is the second EP on Jammz's I Am Grime label. Intense and frustrated, it encapsulates life in London in 2016 and marks Jammz's most complete and considered release to date. All tracks are also produced by Jammz, apart from 'What's Man Saying', produced by grime legend Ironsoul and featuring a guest verse by P Money.

Wisdom Teeth label boss K-LONE reveals new sister label Wych', kicking off with a new collaborative EP featuring LA-based lyricist Ill Chill, complete with hand illustrated artwork.

Fremantle seven piece hip hop/jazz outfit Koi Child has announced the release of their debut self-titled album through Pilerats Records. Produced by Kevin Parker the album features the Beats1 & triple j played single Black Panda Koi Child unveiled new single 1-5-9. The buttery, chill-as-you-like cut is the band's second official single off the album. From the elongated horn-based procession that carries this introspective lyrical tale into a psych-tinged euphoria, to the rolling snare introduction, listeners are hooked into the exceptionally realised musical world of Koi Child.

Koi Child recorded their debut recordat Mangebong, on an island south of Perth. Featuring 14 tracks filled withwarm dubby chords, wandering bass lines, crunching drums and masterful lyricism, it doesn't take long for Koi Child to usher us deep into their own brand of magical hypnosis.

"We recorded the album in a little house on an island which included a nerve wracking river crossing on a boat, with a large amount of loaned recording gear. The shack-turned-recording studio made for a really nice vibe: swimming in the river, recording vocals in the kitchen, sinking an ungodly amount of tinnies and encounters with giant weirdo spiders.' says Tom Kenny (keys) of the recording experience.

Tom adds, "Kevin taught us so much about production and songwriting. His mixing brought so much life and glow to tracks we'd heard a thousand times. We'll be forever indebted to him for being so generous with his time, creativity and talent... what a bloke.'

Koi Child finished off 2015 performing as special guests for Tame Impala on their Australian tour and being announced as a Spotify Spotlight feature artist for 2016.

Way back in 1981, two musicians got together to make a record. Mike Collins played guitar and had just bought a Roland CR78 - the first programmable drum machine. Keith O'Connell played Fender Rhodes piano and Prophet 5 synthesizer. Excited about the quirky and unusual instrumental track they'd composed, when the duo entered London's Utopia Studios to finish off their creation, neither could have predicted what was to follow... Now viewed by many as one of the most influential early electronic dance records, 'Rude Movements' was swiftly picked up on by David Mancuso, who used it to devastating effect at his infamous 'Loft Parties', in turn introducing it to Larry Levan, Frankie Knuckles, David Morales and Kenny Dope, a group of young DJs who would go on to write the blueprint for dance music as we know it. In the more than 35 years since its release, 'Rude Movements' has continued to inspire and excite, sampled by The Bucketheads' classic House track 'Whew!' (featured on recent BBE compilation '20 years of Henry Street Records') and listed by a veritable 'who's who' of dance music's elite as an all-time favourite. Rare and much sought-after on vinyl, BBE are happy to announce the release of a fully remastered version of 'Rude Movements' presented alongside the original demo version 'Raw Movements', plus three other versions of the iconic track. Also included on the vinyl package are the Afrika Bambaata inspired 'Street Beat' and 808/MiniMoog workout 'Palace Strut', as well as three other 80s SunPalace compositions. CD and digital versions expand the catalogue still further, with more experimental SunPalace magic. Timeless original, quirky and unique, these recordings are set to inspire yet another generation of DJs, producers and music fans.

This new Oriki Music compilation includes serious 1970's Afro dancefloor hits, surely a promising favorite among deejays, Afrofunk and Tropical music revival aficionados.

Vinyl diggers can finally play some of Ivory Coast's hardest to find deep funk, Afrobeat, Manding and Tropical rhythms tunes recorded by such legends as Moussa Doumbia, De Frank Jr, or Francis Kingsley.

The consistent liner notes focus on the original label history, Société Ivoirienne du disque, based on interviews with the producer. Original unreleased pictures of the artists and 1970's Abidjan city, a great artwork and a limited press gatefold double LP and digipack CD make it a beautiful collectible object.

Compiled by pioneer African music digger and respected deejay Greg de Villanova, a legend among Afro/Tropical music collectors and deejays, it signs the great return of the dormant French record label, which released such wonders as Orchestra Baobab's A Night At Club Baobab or Moussa Doumbia's Keleya.

Fall of 2016 sees Midnight Magic ready to enchant us once more with the much-anticipated birth of their 2nd studio album, the wondrously eclectic Free From Your Spell. Going back to their roots in Los Angeles, Morgan Wiley, and Tiffany Roth, alongside the rest of the boogie nonet, have prepared a refined feast of genre-bending songs. The ever so diverse moods of Free From Your Spell make it a seductive journey. With each song mixed seamlessly into the next, the record coalesces into one long disco odyssey, reminiscing Giorgio Moroder and Donna Summer's concept albums "Four Seasons of Love" and "A Love Trilogy". Moods, genres, and styles intertwine like an aural kaleidoscope, the album electrifying with its striking harmony. Whilst exuberantly borrowing from past decades, Free From Your Spell more than holds its own as a self-assured, innovative body of work. Midnight Magic's Free From Your Spell is an offer one can't refuse. An attractive deal in the form of disco escapism, traveling through its various shades, emotions, and incarnations, a comprehensive revival of the genre for modern ears. It's Studio 54, It's Moroder,Amanda Lear, Gino Soccio, and Grace Jones. It's a whole palette of 1980's R'n'B and cosmic funk. Despite all the music references of past eras Free From Your Spell is very much a current album, a mature demonstration of genuine skills in songwriting, a multi-instrumental banquet of sounds, a coherent collection of ambitious dance tracks and a beautiful celebration of eclecticism. Add to this some of Tiffany Roth's most memorable vocals to date and you arrive at one of the year's most exciting releases. There is a strong reason for both "midnight" and "magic" in the name of the band after all.

*Demand has risen for the Re-Release of Alien Dread's two 7" Roots Reggae Instrumental singles from 2011, The A side track, for this release, 'Mexican Way' (AD 04-07)featuresMexican Melodica player, Humano Espectral. The B side features a different Dub instrumental track from Alien Dread.

The re-release of the 7's preceeds the next main Alien Dread, Alvin Davis & Asha B, 4 track 10"EP (IRON 04-10) "Roots Instrumentals", due for release early 2017.

Reggae was born in Jamaica, but since Bob Marley died, a new prophet was discovered in Africa - Alpha Blondy. He is one of the very few artists of the genre known worldwide (since his first international hit «Brigadier Sabari»).

Alpha Blondy, the superstar reggae man from Ivory Coast, should need no introduction. He has been active on the scene since the eighties, a real grower of hits turned classics, from Brigadier Sabary' to Jérusalem', not forgetting Afriki' and Apartheid Is Nazism'. And yet, in spite of his status of Commander of the African Groove, Alpha reinvents himself album after album. He has always steered clear of the pitfalls of formatting and tried to bring in something new to the mix. As was to be expected, his sixteenth studio album, Mystic Power, is no exception to the rule.

Since his first success in the eighties with the panafrican hit « Opération Coup De Poing (Brigadier Sabari) », Alpha Blondy is used to provide quality reggae music to his fans. And it is the case once again with Positive Energy, a true masterpiece. « Really, it's the album of the featurings! » says Alpha to describe this collection of twelve new songs.

And indeed, some brilliant guests are aboard on this journey: two Jamaicans (Ijahman on « Rainbow In The Sky » and Tarrus Riley on « Freedom »), the zouk master Jacob Desvarieux on « N'Teritche » and a promising young congolese singer, Pierrette Adams, on « Séchez Vos Larmes » (« Dry Your Tears »). Plus an amazing trio on « Allah Tano »: Nawfel from Tunisia, Issam from Marocco and Ismaël Isaac from the Ivory Coast.

To defend his ideas, Alpha has chosen the best warriors: his band Solar System, who started the recordings in Abidjan then went on in Paris.

On the cover of Positive Energy, he is accompanied by his grandmother in the background of the photo, like a guardian angel. « She taught me to love my fellow men. And my main fellow is God, no need to look any further. She taught me that, and I wanted to pay my respect to her ».

«This album isn't like any other I've done», says Alpha as a conclusion. He is wrong at least on one point: it is as passionate, melodic and sincere as his predecessors. With a supplement of positive energy that is the trademark of great records.

Due to popular demand, 'The River' from Alpha Steppa's debut album finally makes it to vinyl for the first time. Two previously unreleased Alpha Steppa cuts plus two heavyweight versions from Sao Paulo's High Public Sound, mixed by Alpha Steppa himself.
